BEAUTIFUL MARINA JUST A SHORT DRIVE FROM THE CITY!Last summer I spent a lovely weekend at Castaways yacht club with friends. Not only were we able to enjoy time together on our friend’s boat, but also relax by the on-site pool with a cocktail! This past weekend I made my first trip outside of the city since the effects of COVID-19. I was very impressed and relieved with the safety precautions taken on-site. Upon arrival, I was greeted by the owner, who like myself was wearing a mask and practicing social distancing. He reassured me that the club was taking the situation very seriously and that the safety of his members was priority number one. It felt great to be back to the boat and enjoy this small oasis away from the city. Looking forward to another beautiful season here at Castaway!
Castaways Yacht Club is a unique marina. It is a concierge operation where the excellent staff will provide virtually any service one desires. This extends to repairs, cleaning, equipment purchase, and fueling the boat in the owner’s absence.Castaways’ physical plant is impressive. It has roomy slips, a large lift, a gas/diesel dock, pool and restaurant. It is located behind Davenport Neck and therefore protected from storms. Indeed, I understand it weathered Hurricane Sandy without sustaining any damage.Overseeing the operation is the owner, Bill Michaelis. He is at Castaways seven days a week and strictly supervises the highly competent operation. He is also absolutely honest, a rare commodity these days.During my 18 years of boating on Long Island Sound, I have seasonally rented slips at Norwalk, Stamford, Stratford, and Three Mile Harbor. Frequently, I have rented at different marinas simultaneously. I can honestly say that Castaways is the best marina I’ve been in.
In 1968,after our second son was born our family joined castaways yacht club with a 29 ft powerboat. For the next 14 years and two more boat upgrades we enjoyed the social and expert marine services offered by the club. The staff and personnel of the marina assisted us in all facets of boating including advising us on the new purchases! We sold our boat in 1982 hoping to return as soon as possible. This way of life was embedded in our family happiness.October 2014,we went to BILLY and told him we wanted back in,and in the next few months, his advise and expertise guided us to the purchase of our 45carver.Just like old times, the fellow yachtsmen and staff of castaways remind me of the great life a truly great yacht club offers. We hope to enjoy for many more years.
My wife and I have been members of Castaways YC for over 30 years. Over these years we have endured transmission problems, fuel problems and other normal boat headaches. About 10 years ago, after our gas engines had almost 3,000 hours, we re-powered our 36 Carver Aft cabin. A real challenge for Bill and the Castaways crew. Small quarters, new motors, mounts and electronics. All done perfectly. The atmosphere at the club is great. Family oriented, clean, and friendly people. I have served as an officer for many years and enjoy every minute. Children are always a joy at our club and there are many opportunities for them. Pool, games, climbing equipment and more. The staff is top notch.
My wife and I moved our boat (a 45) to Castaways, conveniently located at the beginning of LI Sound, about 8 years ago (from a NJ marina) because we wanted to be closer to the Sound, as we do all of our boating there, and the marina is only about 45 minutes from our home in northern NJ. We thought wed give it a try to see how it worked out. Eight years and two boats later (a 51 and 60), we are still here and love it!Castaways is the well run , the right size; not too big where you are just one of hundreds of boats but big enough to feel like you are part of a boating neighborhood. The location is perfect; very protected marina and close enough to the Sound as well as the East River so you can head in multiple directions for a day trip or an extended trip. The experienced staff at the marina is great. The service department is exceptional as are the amenities (pool, showers, and restaurant…breakfast, lunch, dinner…great food and host). Winter storage is great. There are social events throughout the season that enhance the community feel of this marina. In addition, you are able to have private events catered by the restaurant. The marina is pet friendly; our dog loves the view from our stern.
I have been in boating for over 35 years......Bill Michaelis and his crew have always been as helpful and supportive of me in all of my boating activities helping to keep my vessel always ready for usage all season long. Joe Madonia is truly the glue keeping the Yacht clubs resources ready for maintenance/service enabling our membership to enjoy our true love of boating from April thru late October.....I truly feel fortunate to be at Castaways for some 12+ years. I highly recommend Castaways!!!
Over the winter I purchased a new 2018 50ft Beneteau MC5 from Castaways. Bill Michealis and his team have made the process simple and enjoyable from the beginning. Bill and his Castaways family (I dont call them a team, I say family, because they make feel like part of their family), have spent hours and hours going through, with me, all the nuances and intricacies of my new yacht. Their knowledge and compassion for boating so shines thru every step of the way.I would highly recommend Castaways for all your boating needs.PS. When you buy from Castaways you get free membership to theirpoolclub...How awesome is that......!!!!!!
I have been a member of Castaways for almost 20 years. My first boat was a 27 footer and last year moved up for the 4th time to a 60. There is no one that I know who is more knowledgable about boats and boating then the owner Bill Michaelis. Bill and his team provide me with incomparable service and advice and help to keep my boat in top condition. I am not a mechanical person and Bill has solved dozens of difficult problems for me. The Sunseeker brokerage even helped me to sell my old boat and purchase my current one.The club is situated on Davenport Neck in New Rochelle. This is an absolutely safe and well protected harbor. We have experienced numerous storms and even a couple of hurricanes with no damage while our surrounding harbors have gotten hit very hard. Its an easy and short trip out to the LI Sound and the best cruising grounds around. If you choose to stay ashore, our facilities are always clean and there is a nice pool and a good restaurant. We have traveled extensively on our boat and havent found too many marinas nicer than Castaways!
NEVER leave your boat there. The owner, William Michaelis is rude, unprofessional, and a CON MAN. After they damage your boat they dont answer you anymore, they dont give you their insurance. SO IM HERE TO MAKE A FAVOR FOR YOU ALL THAT NEED THIS INFORMATION: THEIR INSURANCE IS HANOVER in Boston. And be careful, if you sue them they put the guilt in their employees that at the court they say are only independent contractors who are not insured. So before you leave your boat there think twice. They dont take care of your boat and do everything in their power to not be responsible for it because they are SCAMMERS.
I am a member of a Neighboring marina and needed to be hauled out for repair. Castaways owner and staff treated me like I was their best customer. I was hauled out and placed on my trailer faster than expected. I highly recommend this facility !!! Great job and Thanks !!!
This was the first year that we keep our boat in this marina and we had a great experience Bill and his team is always available for any inconvenience when you owned a boat. The food at the restaurant and the pool definitely it is other plus considering all this it is located in a very quite area no car around!!See you next years G.G
Had a survey done there today on a 48 sundancer. The boat was short hauled. The marina lifted the boat out with the travel lift, drove up the length of the boat, kept the boat in the slings of the travel lift and lowered it on to two sets of 6x6 blocking. The surveyor took 45 minutes to survey the outside of the boat. They then made us wait 30 minutes to pick up and lower the boat back into the water. Then told me it was $19.50 per foot!!!!!!! To short haul the boat. $936 plus tax To haul the boat. So if u need a short haul, DO NOT, go tothis marina. The captain, who piloted the boat for the survey, both brokers and the surveyor said the same thing. It was absolutely absurd that price. A normal short haul is anywhere from $6 to $8 per foot. My broker went into the office and asked the owner or manger who was there and asked hi why is this bill so much. He was told it is what it is. The guybthen came outside yelling dont tell me how to run my marina. We let it be and paid the bill. NEVER, will my broker or the sellers broker use this marina again. If they charge this much for a short haul, I cant imagine how much any service work is! Please learn from my experience

2022-06-01Picked up Rascal after a long, maintenance intensive winter involving significant engine work and tender repairs. As usual, Bill and his team did a great job! In 30 years of boating, Castaways is the only marina where I can provide a 30+ item punch list and everything gets done. Castaways people are professional and my experience is worry free. I highly recommend Castaways.

2022-01-08I have been a member of Castaways on and off for over 20 years and although may not have the largest boat in the marina, have always been treated as though I do! The owner Bill, and his staff, have always gone above and beyond to assist me in whatever way they can. I highly recommend Castaways!

2020-05-09Bill and his team are FIRST CLASS. I recently purchased a Swift Trawler 35 from them. And, in my experience, I have found them to be super responsive, knowledgeable and a pleasure to deal with. I highly recommend anyone who is interested in buying a boat to check them out!

2020-05-30One of the best buying experience in my life! I purchased a beautiful Beneteau GT 46 from Castaways and it has been a wonderful experience from ordering the boat to getting delivery and being instructed on how to use this boat. Bill runs a magnificent business and puts customer satisfaction as the top priority. The level of attention I received from Bill, Joe and Jeanna were amazing. Bill has spent so much time going over the boat and making sure I knew everything about it to make me feel comfortable about taking it out by myself.Truly an incredible buying experience and Im very happy with the level of attention I received from The Castaways Team.Wouldnt look anywhere else to purchase a Yacht!

2020-01-24I just bought my first boat in October of 2019.Castaways Yacht Club has been amazing. It has easy access to the sound but is also protected. There is a pool and restaurant which is really a great bonus. Joe the Manager is always available and has given me great advice. Bill the owner is a great guy and really knows everything you need to know about all types of boats and the places to go on the sound. The people that I have met have been warm and inviting and are eager to help. The service dept is top notch as well. It really is a great place to spend time with friends and family. We are looking forward to spending many summers at Castaways.

2021-06-02We recently purchased a 2019 Beneteau Swift 44 trawler from Castaways. From start to finish the process was an exceptionally efficient and pleasant experience. The sales team, led by Christian Brabender, was nothing short of outstanding as they helped us: 1) line up an outstanding group of marine surveyors (one for the engines - Precision Marine - and one for the rest of the yacht - Jim Diaz) to inspect our trawler prior to purchase 2) work up the vessel purchase agreement, 3) sort out the warranty transfers, and 4) conduct pre-sale maintenance prior to delivery. In short, Castaways did everything right, ensuring all was in order prior to closing the deal and our taking ownership. Special shout out to the owner Bill for taking the extra-time to make us feel at home as we spent several days at Castaways getting oriented to our new yacht before shoving off to its new home in Virginia. Lastly a big shout out to Captain Greg Thornton for helping me safely navigate the waters of the Sound, East River, NY Harbor, the Atlantic, Delaware Bay-River, Delaware-Chesapeake Canal, Chesapeake Bay and up the Potomac to Prince William Marine. Greg you are the MAN!

2018-09-03We purchased our new boat a year ago from Castaways. We used to boat on the Hudson river and are so happy to have moved over to the LI Sound. These guys have made the entire experience of buying a boat and getting to know a totally new area a very pleasant and easy experience. Bill and his team have been great. Always ready to help. We really feel a part of this warm and friendly family.

2019-07-03I have been boating 15 yrs. 14 of which spent on the Hudson River. Bought a 2013 49 GT from Castaways and kept boat at the Castaways Yacht Club. First season at the club. Very happy with all my slip neighbors. Everyone always willing to lend a hand when docking. Staff and ownership have been very accommodating and go above and beyond dealing with boat owner issues that always seem to arise. Very dog friendly which is a huge plus. Well protected and slips have plenty of water depth. My wife and I made the right choice to switch to boating on the sound. !!!! Happy to be here!!
