We went on a recommendation from the staff in the gift shop at Swan Bay RV Resort, as was advertised best steak and seafood in the area. I ordered the New York Strip and the ms. ordered the shrimp, scampi & crab alfredo - both where excellant and our server Catalina was exceptional - we grabbed a table in the bar area where the entire bar staff and Cat where very attentive and brought great energy to the whole experience during the entire dinner , Cats stab at making my first margarita was great!- kudos to the owner and the entire staff
Pros:* Try the Calamari, it was good* The cocktails have a heavy pour* Location is right downtown* Walking distance to lodging, activities* Large dining room - many tables* White linen tablecloths* There is a large outdoor bar/patio- (patio closed on our visit)* Separate bar/lounge area up front* Timing of when the food arrived at the tableCons: (just our opinion)* Lacked the atmosphere we were looking for* The dining room lights were on full bright* Missing intimate or cozy vibe in dining room* Staff was cleaning up or shutting down while plenty of guests were still dining. We were very much looking forward to this visit but on this trip, it just fell short of our expectations; it happens sometimes. However, we did notice how the staff worked very well as a team. We also appreciated the friendliness and conversation from gentleman who greeted us at the door.I think if we were to visit again, we would do it mid season, when the outside area is open and we can experience all that the restaurant has to offer.
Came here tonight for my birthday dinner with my parents. Escargot, ribeye, and lobster tail were all phenomenal. Molly was our waitress and she was a powerhouse!! She even brought us a hot brownie with raspberry icing, whipped cream and chocolate sauce, and wrote Happy Birthday on the plate, without even being asked! The food and service here exceeded our already high expectations. Cavallarios will always be our must-stop place up here in Alex Bay!! Thanks for a great birthday dinner!
The food is amazing...I had lobster bites but they were so good I could wait....however, as for the service...im not so impressed..I had a to go order, when I arrived to get it...I went to the hostess stand, told them who I was & she basically shooed me to the bar to tell them who I was...I was shocked...so not expected...it did not end there...finally I told the one of the waitresses more about me & how...just wow!!! So shocked 😲
First time there. Seated quickly. Waitresses were professional and fantastic. Fastest service we’ve ever had. Food came faster than anywhere we’ve ever eaten. Wife and I both had prime rib cooked perfect med rare queen and king portion perfect size. Compliments to the chefs! Highly Highly recommend.
Went here for the first time tonight. Got sat immediately and greeted by one of the nicest servers I’ve ever had. (Erin I believe was her name) I can not say enough nice things about this place. The food was out of the world and everyone that worked there was above and beyond nice. I can’t wait to come back here next year and come back!!
My husband and I absolutely love this place! The food is great and the service is outstanding! We come every year for our anniversary and are never disappointed. The staff goes above and beyond to always make us not only feel welcome but to make our Anniversary unforgettable!
We went there today. We were greeted warmly and seated quickly. We had a wonderful server. There were 4 of us. 3 of our meals were great although one ordered his filet medium and it came out barely warm and mooing. My hubs ordered a NY Strip rare, Do not order this!! There was so much grizzle and it was so tough that he could not even chew it.And it was not rare. First time in 20 years I ever saw my husband spit out a piece of meat. The server took it off the bill but very disappointing. He did like the potatoes. Not sure if we will return.
Do not recommend if you have Celiac Disease. We were very excited to try this place as they offer gluten free options and there are not many places that do in the area. We specified many times to the waitress that our son actually had an allergy this is not a choice for him and they reassured us that the meal was gluten free and safe. He ended up getting very sick from the Meal. I dont know how or what the cross contamination was, but he definitely ingested gluten during his dinner. We will not be returning.
Went with my wife for our anniversary dinner. First off, their bread is amazing. The waitress was very nice too. The entrees were disappointing. I ordered the prime rib medium rare and it showed up well done. The asparagus was unseasoned and the loaded potato was tasteless. My wife got the chicken parm and said it wasn’t seasoned either. Maybe it was an off day. I’ll try it again.
The absolute best food. The bread, the apps, the atmosphere. If I could give this 500 stars I would. George and Franny make you feel at home and the food really is the best by far of any spot in the Thousand Islands. If you’re not at the outdoor bar for the live music on a summer night, you’re missing out. When I’ve only got a few days back home, you better believe I’ve got a Cav’s reservation for every night I am. Simply the best.
5 stars?!? Lets try 10...check my reviews, foodie here. From the time we stepped in this place to the time we left the service was exceptional. The food, perfect I personally enjoy a restaurant that knows how to keep me there with perfect portion sizes, drinks mixed with quality and food with SEASONING! Dont think twice about this place its amazing.
My family and I were in the Bay for the weekend, planned for a nice dinner our last night there. We knew it was going to be busy so we called ahead at 10am to make a reservation for 7:30pm. We arrived early and were told by hostess that we could return at 7:30 and our table would be ready. We did so and when he returned the same hostess that told us to come back at our time was rude and said we are just trying to set your table up. 10 minutes goes by and a member of my family says to another person we had reservation and the OWNER who was standing at the hostess booth says “I get it but you can choose to stay or go. Don’t get me wrong though I want your money” as loud as he can. This restaurant is rude and has poor customer service, we did what was asked of us! Maybe next time don’t show your stressed! If you can’t handle the business that’s your problem not the paying customers!
Went to have a nice dinner for my friends anniversary, sat at the table and were then ignored for several minutes before the waitress came over to take a drink order. Another 30 minutes to get the drinks. Then we wait to take our order. I ordered a prime rib mid rare, it came barely mid, the meat was difficult to work through, and the mashed potatoes were cold when they hit the table. So the food was hanging at the pass for god knows how long..everybodys food was cold. My friend ordered a dish that was supposed to include scallops, and had none, found shell pieces in her meal as well as the overcooked pasta left her not happy either. Other friends steak was not medium rare either, and hard to chew. It was not an inexpensive meal by any means, and you would hope that a steak house would know how to cook a steak properly, but alas tis folly in this case. I would avoid it unless you plan to order from the bar. I hear that food is better
The hostess gave me ringer and told us to wait for 15-20 mins. The dining room was full. After few minutes, people were already coming out. My party waited outside for 30 plus mins. I went to check inside and there were a lot of empty tables. The hostess was just chatting with the two waitresses in the corner of the register area. I mentioned to the waiter working at the cocktail lounge about us who have been waiting. We were finally assisted and got our table. I examined my forks. One of them was dirty, not washed well. It looked like a crusty spaghetti sauce still on the fork. The staff changed my forks. We ordered our food. My ribeye and mashed potatoes was great! Everybody enjoyed their food. But here comes the disgusting part: There was a piece of long black hair that I didn’t know about not until I had sliced crispy onions in my mouth. It was so gross I spit the food out using the black napkin. I showed that to our waitress and she took my plate out. She asked me what I wanted to eat. The pecan salmon came and I ate it. I was hungry even though my mindset was on that hair.
Went to dinner there last night..party of 6. I had heard the prime rib was to die for. It may of been but we will never know as there was none available. Salad is extra. So of the 3 of us that ordered it. The lettuce was iceberg only and wilted. 6 of us were given one dinky bread vs if you were two people you would of gotten the same. Lastly the prices. For the price they had for every food item., therewas no way it was worth any of it. Shame on you Cavallarios for ripping people off.
Overpriced, bland food. I went with a large party expecting to celebrate with a nice dinner however, everybody hated their food and agreed the price was unacceptable for frozen, tasteless steak among other disappointing meals. Only nice thing I can say is that the bread was good.
Being from southern NY, i may be a bit biased when it comes to “Italian” food. Not the best and not the worst. The food seemed a bit rushed and lacked flavor. But for the prices they have, I expected better. Super pleasant atmosphere inside though so i guess That’s cool? Oh and the fried calamari might be mostly peppers.
I wish I could give this place 0 stars. It started off with being seated 45 minutes after our reservation time. Sure, I can get past that because a good restaurant can have a long wait time. Then we were finally sequestered to the back of the restaurant. The waitresses continued to stack dirty plates right next to us like we were sitting in the last row next to the toilet on a southwest flight. Our waitress was a zero and the owner walks around from table to table just to have his ego stroked. At least the food stinks and it’s pricey to boot.P.s get rid of those ghastly sea shell plates. It’s plenty over.
The restaurant is clean and elegant, but the chicken parm was horrible and every body ordered chicken parm. The marinated sauce horrible taste served without grace as if it were for dogs.was funny.Pretty good bread. You should charge $24 by bread and give free you chicken parm. Thank you and good luck.
Overall good experience. Just seemed that they could have stepped it up a notch. Especially for those prices. Nice atmosphere. First time visiting from out of town. Lemon martini was worst we ever had. Bummer. Lobster appetizer was great. His lamb chops were perfect and my twin medallions with crab and mushrooms was also great.
Cavallarios is the only restaurant in Alex Bay to get a quality meal. Some reviewers said its expensive, but you get what you pay for. I have no issue dropping coin on steak and seafood, so if youre cheap, find a pizza joint to visit. My husband and I were greeted by a very warm receptionist that was happy to seat us. Our server, Kim, greeted us with a smile and seemed to like where she works. My husband wanted to try the Chicken Riggies, and Kim asked the cook if a half order could be done. We appreciated Kim making the extra effort to find out.My husband ordered the Cavallarios Trio, and I had the Prime Rib and Lobster Tail. The beef was cooked perfectly medium-rare , and the seafood was not rubbery; melted in our mouths. I also want to take notice of the steamers we had for appetizers. Ive never had cleaner clams than at this establishment. No sand and not overcooked; tender! We had the key lime pie for dessert because it was homemade. It did not disappoint. My only suggestion would be not to put the steaks or prime rib over the mashed potatoes. When we return, and we will, I will ask them to put the mashed on the side. Great job, guys!!
My wife and I just had dinner at Cavallarios restaurant. The food was excellent as was the staff. It was nice to fine a restaurant in a small tourist town with such a well trained staff. As to price they are a bit more expensive by 5 to 10 dollars per couple. However the food was great , you are inside and you are not in a sports bar atmosphere.
This place has amazing Prime Rib, you cant beat the price either. I had Escargot as the appetizer, it was very good. My server was very helpful, Tori is an excellent server. I met the owner and I am glad because I just had to compliment him on his resteraunt. I recommend this place to anyone who likes good food and a good atmosphere. By the way if you like Bleu Cheese they make their own and the salad was to die for. I will come back for sure, on my Dave Portnoy scale I give it a 9.8, not a rookie review.
We haven’t been in years so we thought we’d give it a try. I had the Mahi (Cajun spiced); generous portion but bland, not Cajun, not spiced. Escargot was very small and a bit overdone. Caesar salad had very little Parmesan cheese. The people with me had Newport Combination and Shrimp Della Casa. Both pretty bland as well. Service was excellent; drinks were tasty including the wine. The dining area was set up for COVID (super) but felt a little like a cafeteria. Just so so overall.
On a recent visit to Alexandria Bay we made our annual dinner plans at Cavallarios. We have been coming here for the past thirteen years. My wife ordered prime rib, extremely rare. What see received was medium well. Instead of telling us that rare cuts were not available she had to order another item, after all other entrees were delivered to our table. The waitress apologized but no member of management showed up at our table. When leaving the restaurant after dinner my wife stopped and told the hostess about what happened, her comment was well you didnt have to pay for the prime rib you sent back. Thats correct we didnt and we were not offered anything for the inconvenience. Im not sure what happened to this restaurant but they have lost our business, well never return. Thanks for the response. Just to let you know this happened at the end of June.
Great meal! Even better is the owner’s gruff and no bs commentary. We were outside and asked what happens if it rains—“you get wet”. He absolutely trashes every single negative review below. So snarky! May not be the best business model to abuse your customers and never admit even a single meal could have been bad, but it’s pretty funny. Anyway food and service were wonderful and we’ll be back often.Hope he trashes my review!
The food was excellent and the waitress and waiters were very attentive, informative, and friendly. We had one of the best meals we have ever had there. The escargot was fabulous as well as the filet mignon, clam chowder, and scallops. Our only (minor) gripe is that my wifes martini was far, far too strong, but that was easy to look past given the quality of the food and the great service they provided. Highly recommended!
We look forward to eating there every time we go up to Alexandria Bay. Weve never been disappointed in all the years that we have been going, which has been for very many. The food and service is consistently excellent. We always know when we go there that it will be a great experience. I always get the salmon and my husband always gets the prime rib. Occasionally they do run out of the prime rib, because it is so popular. They recently redid the interior (painted, maybe added some mirrors) which made it lighter and brighter. If I could I would give them 10 stars out of 5.
I have been here 2 times in the past. This place stands out among the great number of horrible establishments in this town. The food is always on point, the service is amazing (thank you Jade & Theron!) and the parking is open. If we ever come back to the Bay, no doubt we will be back here enjoying the great service and food that Cavallarios provides!
Not only is this place well in range to walk to from anywhere in A Bay, but it couldnt be a better way to end a night.Myself and my girlfriend were looking for anywhere to get a decent meal and happened to walk towards this place. The GM was outside working and welcomed us. We went inside and looked at the menu and decided to give it a try.Our server Jessica was amazing. She joked and laughed with us the whole time making the experience even better. Our food was fantastic, and more than filling. And although its a fancier place, the bill was very reasonable. I would have paid twice just because of the service and atmosphere. In short. If you want a great place to eat with a great staff, go here now, no doubt that youll enjoy yourself.
Located in the heart of The Thousand Islands in a very unique small tourist town. The history and warmth of this restaurant and bar is evident as you are greeted at the door. The service by your waitress and waiters is friendly and helpful and from start to finish. The food is prepared exactly as you ordered it , very tasty and nicely presented. The whole family will enjoy the experience .
The most disappointing $100 dinner. Despite a reservation, we were seated 15 minutes past the slot. No big deal... Once we were seated, it took another 10 minutes to get our drink order. Meanwhile, the 2 tables seated after us received their drinks & bread before we even had our drinks. Our wait team seemed frazzled despite the lack of patrons in the restaurant. We constantly had to remind her for drink and bread refills. The two tables seated after us got their salads and meals before ours... Pretty sad. Dont get the tsunami roll - weve had better sushi from gas stations. The Bourbon pecan salmon and the stiff jack & cokes saved this review from 1 star. Also a bit presumptuous to toss in a 20% gratuity... Surely didnt reflect the experience. For the price point, youd expect a very different experience.
We just had dinner there today and the food and service was AMAZING! Jody, our waitress, could not be more perfect! It was one of those meals you just want to keep eating even though you are full. Even our drinks from the bar were good! Thanks for making our 10th wedding Anniversary dinner so memorable!
I hadn’t been here in probably 15 years. Used to be a wonderful place for a higher end dinner. Not anymore. The bread and wine were good, but that’s where it ends. Had a steak (ribeye) with absolutely no flavor at all and it wasn’t cheap. Tasted like they pan fried it and then microwaved. The worst part is they place on top of your mashed potatoes and then put canned French fried onions on it. Also put potato sticks on top of my salad. Didn’t understand that at all. Must’ve ran out of croutons? The service was good. Unfortunately, I will not be back.
I apologise but I did not like the hostess at all. She was very rude. We had a reservation for 8:00. I walked in and went up to her to let her know we were there for our reservation. With attitude she said well these people were here before you Im going to wait on them first. The only reason why I waited until eight to come in was because I made a reservation. The food was good and ALL the other people in the restaurant that worked there were great. Fast friendly and attentive. I never ran out of water. I was given recommendations. I was told that everything I was wanting for appetizer wise was out. Thats ok. Its the end of season for the area and late in the day. We ended up getting bacon wrapped scallops, king crab leg, rack of lamb and two ceasar salads. The food was great. I absolutely am in love with the whole dish of rack of lamb. Im glad we went
What a great place! I was looking for a place to kick back, have a few beers and some dinner and this was just the ticket. The locals were friendly, the staff was inviting and the steak was great. My favorite part were the hot peppers, they were AWESOME! Prices were a little high but was expected. I had a great time there!Definitely recommended. Ill be back for sure!
Another couple and and ourselves went for dinner. My appetizer of escargot was served on mushroom tops, the escargot was all black on top and were tasteless. Two of us ordered the seafood combo pasta, the pasta was dry and tasteless. Another friend ordered stuffed shrimp also was dry and tasteless. The manager came over , when we stated our complaints he was sarcastic and condescending, making comments as he walked away. The food sucks and the manager
We have truly enjoyed our excellent meals at Cavallarios. If you are looking for great food with great service this is the place to go!Update 6/12/2022: We went for our youngests birthday. It was an amazing meal along with excellent service, again. The staff surprised us with a birthday dessert for our daughter. One of our favorite places to go for a casual fine dining experience.
A bit pricey but ok its in a tourist town. The waitstaff was friendly and attentive. Kudos to them during this crazy time. My husbands prime rib was delicious according to him. Large end cut serving. The only side was bland mashed potatoes which he didnt eat. My French onion soup was great, I loved it. I should have stopped there. I got the chicken parmesan. The chicken was ok but the red sauce not so much. It was almost like they opened a can of hunts tomato sauce and poured it over the meal. There was no taste to it. 3 bites and I took it home to doctor up a bit. My fault for ordering chicken at a steak place but come on. We only come up a couple times a year from Massachusetts and probably wont be back here.
The worse The worse experience in dining starting from appetizers. We ordered good pricey choices to celebrate good day in 1000 islands area and payed - 130$ for heated up appetizers purchased in BJ probably, 2 days old salad with plate still cold from the fridge. Prime rib was over salted not cooked, so was lobster tail. Orange duck was simply fried as chicken and tasted this way. Served Chinese style. We are very open minded customers but this is not how 130$ dinner should be cooked and taste.
It was very good. We had been there last year when we were vacationing last summer and enjoyed it then, so we went back again last night. I had the mahi-mahi which was very, very good and my husband had a salmon dish which he enjoyed very much also. A friend who was with us had a Caesar salad with chicken slices that she enjoyed. We sat outside because the weather was just comfortable and we had a good time
Cavallarios catered a bridal shower for us and they were absolutely wonderful to work with. One of the owners, George, offered food suggestions and ideas and was very responsive to communication. The day of, the food was hot and ready and absolutely delicious. We ordered meatballs (which were huge!), Italian chicken, red sauce, alfredo sauce, and penne pasta. The prices were very reasonable, and the overall experience was great. Without hesitation, I would encourage anyone who wants delicious, local, and authentic Italian catering to check out Cavallarios.
A good place for some good/classy dining while camping nearby. Food choices were good, and I had no complaints with my meal. My friends steaks were a little overcooked though, but still tasty. Wine selection/prices were nothing special. Not very many good beers to choose from...mostly just light beers...and only in bottles. No taps. Dont let the front bar room fool you, there is a good-sized dining room in the back. Overall it was worth it.
Decor is slightly outdated but amazing food and service. My husband and I went for our Anniversary dinner. Farron our server was one of the best, I worked in the industry for some time myself so I realize amazing service when I see it. Food was incredible and my husbands filet melted in your mouth. Will definitely go again when we are in town again.
Fantastic from start to finish! 2-3oz Fillet Mignons with stuffed Blue Cheese and Blackberries on side was to die for! Going back tonight to try Shrimp stuffed with Blue Crab. Service was great! Desserts also. This is the place for a wonderful relaxing dinner with friends. You get what you pay for. No disappoinment here. Enjoy!

2022-06-27Food was excellent...but a little lacking.I ordered the seafood over angel hair pasta and there were only 3 shrimp and 2 scallops and a reasonable amount of clams. For what we paid Id have expected more shrimp and scallops. Prime rib was excellent and a great portion. The service was a little slow but the waitress was young and seemed inexperienced but she was very sweet and polite.

2022-07-04Way over priced for mistakes to be made. Medium rare rib eye was well done, mashed potatoes tasted like instant potatoes. Bread was delivered with no utensils, no plates and no napkins. Outside of building is very run down. If Im going to pay that much money I expect better.

2022-06-26They dont have correct prices on the menu, servings are skimpy, bill for thirteen people was almost eleven hundred dollars and they added a hundred and sixty dollar gratuity to the bill. All the beverages were flat and watered down and in order to get a little elbow room we had to clear our own dishes. Will never go there again.

2022-06-29Steak was tasty, and cooked to my liking. Service was quick, despite the fact they were very busy.fair price for a nice meal as well.

2021-10-05Popular place for good reason. Prime rib is perfectly prepared and huge -- pictured is the smaller cut. Also the duck was excellent. A must stop for visitors to Alexandria Bay.

2021-07-17Forty Min Clam AppI’m in an empty bar, on a Friday, there’s more bartenders than customers, I order a coffee and a clam. Hoping to happy as on soon. 40 minutes elapse I check for the second time if the clams have been caught yet. I’m alerted that my clams have been fired. 6 minutes later they arrive, 11 of them. They take 4 mins to slowly enjoy. 40 plus 4. It’s still calm. I leave my credit card on the bar for 12 minutes before flagging down the staff to take my payment. 40 minutes in an empty bar. I write this whole review while waiting for them to return my card. I’ll never know what happened tonight. But it confused and alarmed me. 40 minutes for clams is mind blowing. 3 stars is generous.

2022-05-21Service was great! Bread was great! Salad was served in a chilled bowl! Appetizer and pasta main course were soggy with too much oil. Overpriced for the small portions we received. Light fixtures coated with dust. I would not go there again.

2022-06-05VERY expensive for what you get. Food was good, but not the spectacular taste we were expecting for the price. Salad is not included with the expensive entree & its a tiny salad for the upcharge. $4 charge to add a baked potato to entree. We wont be back.

2022-05-15Literally the best food Ive ever had in my entire life! The staff was so great when we came to pick up our order. Everything was perfect!
