Ive been going here all my life. This library is big, beautiful, and offers an incredible amount of resources (books, media, one-on-one sessions with librarians, workspace, etc). The library organizes top-quality programs all the time, including musical performances and educational classes. The staff are always helpful and accommodating, and the place is clean and well-kept. A great place to spend free time, and located in a beautiful plaza. Theres even a pie shop in the concourse !
Such a pleasant vibe, helpful staff and a very wide variety of books. I’m trilingual and found a wide variety of books in all three languages.
I seriously didn’t know how many cool things are right around Prospect Park. I thought the exterior of the library was really cool, but it was kind of a letdown inside. Not because there were books, just because the aesthetic was pretty bland. Outside, the building looked old, but with character. On the inside, however, it just looked outdated. There was a great selection of books inside, though. There’s also a lot of great work space, which is definitely a huge plus.

During the pandemic the library was renovated. The whole east wing has been redone and it’s beautiful.Staff has always been incredibly helpful and still are.Overall, beautiful library and great staff. Many services offered, free wifi, water bottle refill stations, grassy outdoor area with seating and tables, and public bathroom. Wonderful place to do work and relax. Self-love approved.
The library is still amazing as I remember it, and the staff is awesome. I visited yesterday, and wanted to give thanks and praise to the lady at the check out service, as well as the other two super stars at the informatics center or section Cee & Eileen it was a total pleasure, and I cant thank you ladies enough for your guidance and assistance...
The facade of the building catches the eye with its beautiful architecture and art. The library collection is pretty diverse and the staff are helpful and attentive.
Very nice. 😁. High tech all the way. The women s bathroom was so modern looking. It was renovated. In addition, I notice my phone went into vibrate when I was in the Library. I did not do it. The Library has a way of putting phones on vibrate. Plus I saw no one talking on their phones.
It was a wonderful day for me at the library and the family was in a good place to read shop & learn. Basically just getting out; awhile from the house was Amazing 🐤💃🏻👍🏾🌻🕺🏼💪🏾🐝🙏🌻🕺🏻💡💗
No opinion about the store itself other than becareful of sending your amazon packages to their amazon hub cause someone in the store wholefood signed for my package and who knows where its at right address wrong department.
My favorite library of any Ive been to, it has everything! Super huge selection, super nice people, air conditioning, bathrooms. Always a great experience!
I went there for the French festival and it was open all night with lectures and artistic activities from amazing thinkers and artists. Loved that they open up to new form of knowledge that is not in a book.
This is the best library I have been to. Amazing place to pick out books for people of all ages, and it is a great place to chill and read or study. Very big, with welcoming staff, and a great book selection. Not only theres a library, but there is also a cafe. 10/10.

Most beautiful library to goto in Brooklyn for me.so up stairs are closed for now but you can have reading time with your kids. Its very airy feels great. You can check out your book and return them as well.plz enjoy
Massive library with plenty of seating and good WiFi. There is a cafe on the ground floor so you can stay caffeinated and alert for work or study!
Ideal day: take my bike to Grand Army Plaza, bike around Prospect Park, have lunch at a food truck back near Grand Army Plaza, then relax at Central Library and read.Free wifi, computers, tons of helpful resources and books!(Be careful locking your bike up here though)
Wonderful building architecturally, inside and out. Good community services, such as Info Commons for meetings of local oganizations. Great small auditorium in lower level where free music performances are given. Full range of library services and extra ones also, such as job search help. Host to special events like all night music, lecture and dance presentations inside and music performances outside on large plaza in front of main entrance.
Its great being back at the Grand Army Central Brooklyn Public Library!! The staff as usual is excellent. For tourists and residents, stop by and enjoy the environment!

My favorite place in Brooklyn. These brave and friendly librarians, staff and security make getting your books easy. What a great system theyve developed so we can still get access to their great collection even during the pandemic. Thank you to these essential workers!

Looks beautiful on our first visit since 2020, new bathrooms in Civic Commons are spotless, librarian was helpful, and I saved $20 by finding a book I needed for work! HURRAY FOR LIBRARIES!
Love this library. A part of my life. They have a huge collection of books and lots of educational resources.
A nice enough library, clearly valued by the locals. I was surprised and disappoiinted that most of the bookshelves were half-empty: most libraries have a problem of over-crowded shelves, not under-stocked ones.
My favorite library in Brooklyn. Employees are super nice, and i love the fact that they have a little cafe in the building so you can take a snack break while studying without having to leave. So amazing :)

This place is incredible. Of course this just so happens to be the main library. Beautiful architecture from the inside out. Yet you do have to be quiet in certain places, but the main hall you would be able to talk on a cell phone and do other things. I definitely would recommend this Library. Additionally, you are allowed to record in the studios but you do have to book them in advance. All Things Considered, no issues, whatsoever

This is How A Library Should be Run. I love this library and I dont even live in New York. I gladly pay for the privilege of belonging to this library as well as participating in their donation drives. I am in Atlanta... and the Fulton/Atlanta Library doesnt even come close to offering what Brooklyn does. Actually, I really shouldnt bash Atlanta... Brooklyn outshines the entire Country. Go Brooklyn!
Great library. Good ID center.Adding to all the good library reviews (been a member for 10 years).The NYC ID center is on the right hand side, when you go in the main front doors. I made an appointment, and got through the process in 30 minutes. Id recommend going early. Friendly and quick.
Good space, materials and hours, but poorly operated. Cleanliness is neglected, especially in the bathrooms. Rules are not enforced - loud devices, talking, sleeping, foul-smelling, inappropriate bathroom usage. Many come here to hang-out, not study, and it shows in their disruptively oblivious behavior. Am I being insensitive to the homeless? No. I am saying this library is becoming more and more difficult to use as such.Cafe is surprisingly good. Aside from same-as-above behavioral patterns from some patrons.
I brought my family to apply for their passports. The staff was great and very professional. Thank you to the manager Ms. Williams for her assistance in obtaining the appointment.
I really like this library! The 3rd floor is a great place to study in peace and quiet. They have lots of amazing events that are artistic and educational. It can get very very busy, but you’ll just need to focus and it will be fine... there’s a computer room, children’s area, Brooklyn collection, passport center, and many other amazing things.
Very nice big library. College kids and kids in general like this place. They come here to work in a quiet setting to get information or homework done.Its a fairly large building and has lots of history to its pass. The architect structure is very pleasing to the eyes. If you just want to get away from it all or just need some quiet time to read a book, then this is the place for you.
This library has always been a staple in my life. I just love it here and the park is right across the street. Wonderful atmosphere.
I love that this library is open on Sundays. It really comes in handy when I have to print things for various reasons and I can avoid going to a fedex to use their computers which can be costly. Also the library is huge and clean and organized for the most part. The library really is beautiful to look at as well.
I love this library. You can get lost here for a while just going through tons of stuff that they have to offer. Its architecturally beautiful and the sights from the top floor are nice too. This is definitely one of my favorite libraries in Brooklyn.

It was rich in beauty. There were food trucks outside...so I decided to grab a bite and sit at the tables on the front platform to enjoy the food and sights.
I love the library and the proven notion of unlimited learning and opportunities to help anyone with the drive to learn, enhance and teach or research just about anything and everything humanely possible.Of the six employees I approached for assistance only four were able to guide me in the direction of my objective, which was to scan documents to my email.Two employees were unnecessarily rushed with their information that it cost me having to redo the entire process. There was no line to speak of yet there body language spoke of being quite unraveled. There was a moment when one employee verbally disciplined another employee while in my presence. I was so taken aback that I offered to step away. Actually hoping that my action will help her realize that her behavior was not only out of line, but it was unprofessional, unnecessary and outright rude.The central library stands as a pillar of learning and development of knowledge. To that end, and as with most businesses and such, it could stand to brush up on offering their employees workshops on how to improve their collective basic people skills.Thank you.
A stimulating environment for all ages. There is a special section for children that features colorful graphics and storytelling times. There are thousands of books in the underground levels that are accessible by asking at the front desk. I worked as a book finder, and traversed the four underground levels to locate books not accessible on the shelves in the public area. Everything from graphic novels to ancient classics. Great place for students and researchers as the staff is friendly and helpful.
Amazingly large library. Great public space to educate yourself, meet a friend, do work or borrow new material. Best thing is they are open everyday!! Also when the weather is nice you can sit outside and do work on the outdoor seating with tables. Free wifi. The bathrooms are a bit stuffy, typical of public restrooms but theres some on the 3rd floor as well. Really great place, everyone is friendly and helpful.
Best library ever. Beautiful atmosphere, great selections. Theres a well-stocked young adult section that my little sister loves. Definitely something for everyone here, and dont forget to visit the little café inside, as the pie and coffee are delicious.
I always have a great experience when I visit the main branch of the Brooklyn Public Library. First, the building is beautiful and is located in a great spot near Prospect Park. The librarys online system always has worked well for me. I reserve a book online and pick it up at the designated branch. It is also great for renewing books. The actual library is easy to navigate, has all the books you could ever want, and never has long checkout lines. People are always utilizing the cafe area in the main lobby.

This library is not only magnificent and beautiful on the outside but inside has alot of the historical architectural features which make it a must see.It is huge and cavernous inside with a wonderful childrens reading room on the main level with plenty of seperate reading space set up for all ages from toddlers through teens which our children enjoyed.A wonderful experiance.
When I got out of the subway, I was confused where to go next. A smiling nice guy suggested: Turn the corner and you will see a beautiful building. This is our library. Unfortunately, I did not have time to be there anymore and to get to know the library better. But the place was really interesting. On the first floor of the library there are two official organizations. One of them I visited on this day. It was New York ID service. Im white, but at the place there was service only to African-Americans and Hispanic speakers. When I registered online, I did not know such information. I learned about this only when I came there. Yes, discrimination of the white population in state offices is a common thing today. Apparently, the current administration of Brooklyn supports such a strategy. My visit was fruitless. I lost my time. But the beauty of the area, clean air from the greenery calmed me quickly.
Such a wide array of books to choose from! I always find new things to read. Definitely plan on making it my main library

Hometown schools to college that was not enafe for me when moved America have to Learn years by Year sill same was Right now .... yes have to Learning so many thanks... One of the largest libraries in the world! Lots of amazing streets and such an incredible building! The universe of knowledge with the amount of books located here on topics from all over the world. A landmark and a real national treasure this place magnifies! Love the library!
The New York Public Library is located in Midtown Manhattan. Its a large public library with a rich collection of books. As long as during the opening hours, people are free to visit and read. be sure to check out the biggest main reading room, you can sit down and read, the small reading room on the side is also felt well. There are have many activities for enlightenment and free!
Very beautiful Library. Friendly Staff (Got a new Library Card in under 5 minutes), and solid clean place to hang out with a good book and get lost. Highly recommended fiction-section!
What a fabulous resource for the community.There are a variety of programs here; some downstairs in the Dweck center, some in the conference rooms. Some require free tickets but sometimes these can be hard to get, especially when the guest is someone notable. These programs are as varied as history workshops, computer instruction, lectures on library resources, and workshops to practice speaking a foreign language. What surprises me is that Im no longer surprised at what might pop-up in these progams.There are volumes of great books here. It is a wonderful place to browse for books with great sections in American History and classic and popular literature, and even a good selection of baseball books.There are many CDs to borrow but heres the catch--theyre often dirty or scratched so you cant watch them without really cleaning them. A quick wipe-down wont cut it, you have to get some tissue paper and water and someimes use elbow grease.Sometimes the computer resources are crowded and that includes places for those with their own laptaps. The library does have some great resources online that you can use not at the library. Like if you have internet connection at home there are great courses available on lynda or foreign language instruction on mango. You do need to be a member to get use of these resources.The library isnt the sanctuary from noise that it used to be, but there are quiet places in this branch too. There are also places where it ought to be quiet but are not.Restroom facilities are sometimes an issue. I dont begrudge the homeless for using the bathroom but i dont want them in there for half an hour cleaning up or zoning out. Dont go near closing time or it will be a loooong wait.

Well staffed public library with a lot of amenities like a cafe area with good coffee and snack options. They even have an ATM inside and you can also get a NYC id while youre there. Getting a library card was easy.

Giant library with plenty of nooks and crannies to study and do your work. Some floors are a bit distracting, but for the most part, I enjoy exploring here. There seem to be plenty of outlets for laptop users. Some areas can have a bit of a smell, so there could be better circulation.
Disclaimer: I love ALL libraries. I love books. I automatically swipe right if your job is Librarian.This is the Central Branch of the Brooklyn Library system. Its 3 floors. They have everything from everyday books to history and sciences and a separate section for music. You can also rent musical scores and instruments to play them from banjo to violin.Everyone from security to help desk are so nice and helpful. If you need your phone charged you can use the charging station by the cafe.You can get a library card if youre a NYS resident. Even if youre not from Brooklyn.From classes and events to resources you can spend a whole day here and not be bored.But then again read the disclaimer. I havent met a library I didnt like.
Amazing arts and culture department...the central branch has a plethora of diverse programming, events and information. The staff is always willing to assist and guide you in the right direction. Great place to zone out and get work done or just dive into a good book.
One of my favorites places many activities and on Some Sundays there is classical music. Recently open aService loaning musical instruments. All peoples are welcomed and provided services. There is a passport office services as well, a must visit for anyone

I love the library really I do. I would live there if possible. :-) But like someone stated before me some of the people who work at some of the branches--I wont say which ones --are very rude. I have often had arguments with employees over the fact that they gave me a damaged book which they demanded that I pay for it when I was given the book that had missing pages. Some of them make you feel as though your bothering them by asking a few questions. Other than that the libraries are great. The selection of books online and in the library itself are amazing. The centeral library is one of my favorite branches. You should visit it!

Absolutely beautiful architecture and personality at this location. I like how all the information i need from literature is steadily on hand , this is definitely a very nice place to visit for knowledge or maybe peaceful meditation.

One of my favorite NYC libraries. Extended hours, the ability to pick up online orders, small cafe serving up pie and coffee. There are also extensive community outreach services that are done via the Central branch.

Great place to sit and down just embrace books for hours. The library provides many services and programs for kids to have fun and learn. Computers are also available for those with brooklyn public library cards and wifi is also available.
They call this the Grand Army Plaza because it is GRAND! Large and spacious rows of wonderful smelling books. Little areas to sit and read, enjoy this place.Its been a treasure for students with books on all areas, medical, childrens section, and art.It houses millions of books and parties. The art work alone is a reason to visit. Carvings, paintings and more line the walls here.Its not hard to get lost in this lovely place and take a trip to another world.Plenty of street parking.
This is a very good city library. Great collection of books for all ages and subject matter. There are a good number of computers available if you need one; good WiFi; cafe, which sells food; childrens play area and plenty of activities. Great location as well, with plenty to do around the library (grand army plaza, brooklyn museum, botanican gardens, prospect park all around). Barclays Center is a brief walk away.
I really dont know why this would get anything less than 5 stars. Its cool on a hot day, warm on a cold day, the staff is always nice, and they showcase art from both local artists and schools. Please support your local library - donate time, books, money to keep this going for everyone.

I cant say enough about my visit on Wednesday June 6th 2019. From the Police Officer on detail who helped me when I entered through the childrens library to Stevie Smith at the cafe. I had had a horrific experience at an Airbnb in Brooklyn. I had to quickly find another Airbnb that was in a very dangerous neighborhood. I went from originally planning to stay in NYC 6 days , to staying for exaclty 48 hours. Stevie was such a source of comfort and help. I was so emotional and confused. I am a Native New Yorker born and raised here and I was shocked at what had happened to me at the Airbnb. Stevie made me feel safe, connected, protected and respected. She listened and offered her assistance. She went above and beyond. As a child born in 1967, this library was always my safe place. At almost 52 years of age, it once again became my safe place. Thank you to all those that helped me at the library and a special thanks to Stevie Smith. Your good deed and humanity towards me will never be forgotten.
Massive space but some books not where they should be. There are a fair amount of computers available but many users waiting. The staff is really helpful. They have been more than fair about my fines. They really should have banned me and my family. I totally owe them a favor.Great access to farmers market.
Great place to study. Enough space to spread out & get some work done. Only down side is there is a lot of homeless & suspect people. They have security & Im yet to hear of any of any fights or robberies

Excellent library with a vast selection of books and other reading materials. The library is spacious, quiet, clean and has great librarians.
Nice library with plenty of books and computers. The restrooms are not kept clean and need repairs. Broken sink. Broken locks. Hooks missing.Its a disgrace!I also had my bike stolen from the bike rack outside the library. I spoke to security and they said to go to the NYPD 78 Precinct to file a police report. The security officer at the library would not look at the camera footage or show it to me. He said that the police would have to request it. The police officer at NYPD 78 told me that they have a hard time getting the footage from the library.We will see what happens, but so far, a poor job by the library security if a bike can get stolen right under their noses during library hours.

The employees here need to know that they need to do better. Having a library that people actually want to come here is not that obvious anymore. Listen and really try to help even if a question sounds ridiculous to you. Library is amazing though.
Loved the atmosphere! Lots of selections, friendly staff. Checked out two audiobooks which were scratched and therefore skipped excessively. The library should update and replace those. Forgot how annoying owning cds are. Then I checked out a great book for which I couldnt put down. Even fell asleep with it in ny bed...and woke up to a bedbug bitting me 11 times! Turned me off from my nostalgic feeling of checking out library books. Mentally scarred.
Needs to be updated and reorganized. Great selection of books though. Also there needs to be more regulation on how loud ppls darn conversations can be. Two decades ago ppl respected the required noise level which was low. What happened?
Location generates good business. However can generate much more positive exposure. Some red zoned areas. Brownstones corner streets. That would attract more new renovated businesses. Public Parks, Mini Brownstone Malls, Libraries, Community Social-Media Youths-Teens-Senior-Middle Aged Adults Club Memberships Centers even Public Affordable Housing. That can really attract more focus. That will draw outside Small-Big Corporate Businesses. That. Would provide future fundings as vast various sponsors. That again. Creating Re-Generalizations. Literally Re-Facing the various jointed communities one by one. Into an safe , clean Civilized . industrious jointed again Communities. That can attract common tourists, community locals. To not only feel safe & secure within the community & these new jointed. , provisions of various communities that can as well create Jobs. This locate needs an Community Survey Evaluation. Some dark spots. Are unsafe unreasonable. Social Cultural Styles. Attracts many many unrestricted issues . that needs to seriously be considered importantly.
Beautiful to see even if you are not a library buff. Consider it a free quiet time. Several books and a lot of multimedia resources. Service in over all is good but sometimes is not quite there.
This library was ahead of the curve. There are amazing events that teach you different skills held at this library including BRIC courses for anyone who wants to get into media by producing their own TV show. If I were still living in Brooklyn, I would take advantage of the different free or low cost opportunities.
Among all the other great things about this library (beautiful entrance, sheet music library, pie from Four & Twenty Blackbirds, BOOKS), I love that they offer free language classes (Spanish, Italian, French Portuguese, Chinese and more) here! This is not just a library, it is a community hub for all Brooklynites.
Free Wifi + online capabilities for reserving books makes this a great library. If you plan to get late night studying done here though, you may need to go elsewhere - it closes at 9pm.
Wow! What an incredible place. There are events with celebrities like Pharell, music, and movie screenings in the Dweck Center in the basement. Plus there are 3 flrs of computer labs at your disposal. There are also language classes, ( jap, fr, etc.), Workforce1 for job readiness/placement, and loads of other things to keep an entire family having fun. Definetly recommended for all family members. Theres also the Botanical Garden right next door. Plus the Brooklyn Museum next door to that.
I gave it 3 stars, only because this library has a vast selection of books and the librarians are helpful. But the place is full of homeless people that wander the halls, and the workers who check out your books have an attitude !!
Good news for those who like to sit in the library with their computer, the @bklynlibrary again permits it to be true masked and distanced, but you can.
Amazing building and selection of material (you can also request anything not found here be sent from another branch). In the Summer months more than adequate A/C (ie. bring a sweater), but on certain days the wifi can be laptop tossingly slow. Outlets can also be scarce in the Media room upstairs..Either bring a power strip on try and snag a seat at the bar style seating at the cafe (look carefully there are 2- 12 plug outlets under the counter)
The call center sucks, and clearly no one is on the same page about the information they are giving the customer. Clearly, they enjoy wasting your time when it comes to getting a passport and how the payments should be. Learn your jobs.
Although the library is empty it is still beautiful and inviting...cant wait til it opens up fully again!
I have been going to this grand library for half my life now! I can honestly say that they have done a great job updating the place and making it so modern that it is a bit of a joy to go to now. The computers are new and the books are back to back in this good landmark
Still closed as of 8/7. Just a great resource for almost all Brooklynites supplies books and internet access. Classes and programs for all ages. Just the best.
Peaceful place to relax with a cop of coffee and do some people watching. many interesting characters. lots of regulars too who are always there when i am. good audio book selection.

Huge library right next to the best park in Brooklyn, Prospect Park. The only problem is a lack of electrical outlets in a lot of the libraries rooms and sections; in some rooms there is none at all. Its a 90s library in this way. Needs updating.

This library is very large and clean. Purpose of goinv there today easvto participste in a Older Adults Digital Bowling League. There were non’okder adults’ just teenagers from a school class. I inquired at Help Desk and eas told that its open gor everyone,I decided to go into the literature section and read a book. I believe this supposed to be a quiet place, they should advise staff that is putting books back in shelves to wear rubber shoes, so as to prevent making noise when they walk through the isles,

Cool entrance. Much older inside especially on the third floor. The cafe on the first floor serves Brooklyn-approved coffee. It has a section of graphic novels aka comics.
Huge and silent space. Didnt have time to explore all halls, but found interesting bioethics book to kill some time while waiting for late evening departure from JFK.

Theres no reason the library is still closed after over a year. If walmart and target can be open, the library can also.
It was a bit windy outside but I was able to read my book and meet with my ex girlfriend for a walk in the park.
They have free classes here. You can get help with ADOBE PREMIERE on Mac. They have groups where you can practice Spanish or French. They have a lecture auditorium where they host speakers and panels. Its a GREAT PLACE!

I order a sausage egg and cheeses at Emma’s Torch Cafe and the sausage was very under cooked and the eggs looked weird and when I asked why the sausage looked like that she said because it’s pork that’s why it was pink

Not only is it a beautiful building with a large collection, it is also a cultural hub with many special events. The staff is very helpful.
I live just a couple of blocks from the Brooklyn public library its great no complaints from me but they should update like change some things around like more open space

2022-04-02The Central Library has such a calming atmosphere. There are many books for adults and children alike to enjoy. Additionally, they have more copies of their inventory than some libraries I have seen in the past. There are numerous places to sit and read. Although it was closed today, I saw that theres a cafe inside. Who can pass on a cup of coffee and a book? I wish that they were open to provide a review.Regardless, walking through the library was pleasant. They also provide multiple computers for use. If interested, then people can use their business center.Overall, if I lived in the area then I would love to visit the Central Library!

2022-03-01Great Library, very big and the staff is extremely helpful. They have many programs there for adults to need help with life goals. They also have a small store where u can buy coffee and muffins.. The only downside is you cant eat inside. I hope they fix that soon because its cold.

2022-06-16I LOVE IT HERE! It’s the biggest library I’ve ever set foot in, and I stay for hours. The therapy dog, who retired last week, is so cute. I know I’ll probably never see her again but I’m glad I did when I could :)This library has great selections, and my fav- ofc- is the youth wing. Filled with all books that I love and I’m sure children and other teens would love it too :) visit when you can!

2022-07-03Can I just say you dont need three day weekends two weeks apart from each other. Your job is not that taxing. People have aright to Public spaces especially when it is hot. AC and access to water is critical to the community. Tired of the wokeness. TWO flags for BS. Whatever happened to celebrating diversity and U.N.I.T.Y. like Queen Latifah said. Seems all these days want to do is create more hostility and exclusivity. Three Day holidays must not be helping all that much. Will be emailing community leaders for what its worth about limiting access to services for half of summer.
