We love coming here! For $3 a rider its a fun thing to get out and do every once in a while. My kids love it! The ride actually seems fairly long too. If you havent already, read about the history, very interesting and fun to learn more about such an iconic place.
Fun for the kids, nice place to take your little ones. The ride is pretty long, secure but NOT free for the adults like the website had advertised. I had to pay mandatory $3 to accompany my 4 year old twins, so after few rides it gets pretty expensive.
A staple Central Park for ages. This is a nice old fashioned carousel. The price is a tiny bit steep at $3 for every person who goes on. But its a nice long ride. It is a bit aggressive. Some of the horses go as high as 4 or 5 feet and it does spin very quickly. So maybe not for the smallest toddlers. Worth going out of your way for if you have kids and youre in the park.
This place was amazing. I took my 20 month old charge for her first time. She had a wonderful time.
Loved this! Only $3 per ride and a long ride at that! We were there for 9:50 am prior to opening and there were about 4/5 customer groups in total for the first ride. The only negative was there was absolutely no hurry from the staff to open up. 1 man was there from about 9:50 opening shutters and unlocking the kiosk etc. By 10:10 the ride was eventually ready for a spin with a second member of staff turning up at this time! No courtesy of greeting waiting customers or letting them know there would be a few minutes wait while they set up, the 1st guy just dawdled around with his headphones in making no effort to efficiently start the ride! customer service focus does not seem to exist in this city! Overall though worth a visit and enjoy the ride. 5 minutes of escapism and childishness, great 😊
Beautiful carousel but terribly operated. The music was....hard to describe, it must be broken. No lights on, either.
Very simple carousel, comes off as run down and poorly maintained but Im sure thats to keep it true to as it originally looked and functioned as a historic sight. Standard ride about 5 minutes around, definitely a fun stop for kids but curious adults wont be missing anything by skipping the ride.
@$3 the ride is not so expensive. The duration of the ride is good. Kids around 5 can board on their own, but you have to buckle them. Most kids absolutely love the ride.
The carousel is so much fun riding the majestic horses and listening to the accompanying music. The atmosphere is lovely every season with the birds, huge trees and flowers(depending on the season). It is also a great place to people watch.
If you’re in Central Park, how can you not ride an old school carousel? The rides at $3.25 each and a bit short in my opinion. The carousel is mostly enclosed, so it can get warm on a hot day. The staff finally turned the fans on towards the end of our ride. Overall, I’m glad I can now say I rode on the Central Park Carousel, but it was nothing to write home about.
They should hire better people to run the carousel. Its such a landmark and symbol for little kids in Central Park. When we were there approaching the ticket window, there are 3 guys standing around chatting. We asked to buy a ticket, one of the guy has such bad attitude, like you should not be talking to me because even though we worked here, but we dont want to sell you a ticket, we just like to hang out and do nothing. Whole time, all the young people that work there acts like a zombie, just going through the motion, you cant see a smile or anything resemble a normal service industry people.Central park is absolutely my favorite place in the city, but carousel services is horrendous.
$3 per rider, including parents who just stand there to ensure their children dont fall off and die (basically, $6 for 1 horse). Also really inefficient queing system. They dont sell tickets until the current ride ends, then they have to unload, load, run, and unload the ride before selling tickets for the next ride.
The music was awful. It was not happy and upbeat like you usually hear at carousels. The carousel went very slow and my daughter was bored with it. My older children commented on how bad the music was as well.
An old fashioned carousel with horses going up and down. Nice and old-school, if you are interested in an spectacular roller coaster, avoid this place by all means. Otherwise enjoy the spirit!
3 Dollar per ride..only cash payment.I visited Wednesday.. 3 dollar ride and adult required with a Kid. Adult was free.Saturday. Same week... 3 dollar per ride (for kid under 5) . adult must accompany (BUT THE GUY ASKED THE ADULT TO PAY TOO).When I told him about Wednesday experience. He said he makes the rules.The safety belts are a joke.. just a usual mens belt with duck tape.. I have submitted an official complaint with the park administration.

Our kids loved it, was only 3$ and you cant really beat that when a can of coke is 3$. My kids enjoyed and thats all that matters. Plus Im pretty sure that point Is in many movies.
Ah, nostalgia. As a kid, I had a favorite horse, the horse with its tongue hanging out in extremis and a lion for a saddle. I even have the vinyl of the mechanical calliope. Minus one star for their use of recordings of the music instead of maintaining the original clockwork pipe organ.
The carrousel is nice but the music is horrible. Actually this is not even music, it gives you the headache. Even the workers there wear headphones to escape from this terrible BROUHAHA ! It would have 5 starts with nice typical carrousel music
Part of the NYC/Central Park Experience! Do try to find the carousel - especially if you have children - and enjoy a ride. There is plenty more in the immediate vicinity as well: the Chess and Checker House, The Dairy Barn, Heckscher ball fields, and the Sheep Meadow.

Its and old carousel, but we still had a lot of fun riding it. MY GRANDSON did it several times. The music though skips the melody. Time to fix it.
Good carousel but like the one in the national Mall in DC better. This one was more enclosed I assume for winter and weather protection. Still a good ride though

3 bucks, great for the kids! The attendant was courteous. We enjoyed the carousel it was dated but I guess they call that antique..... 😁
Fun Central Park experience for only $3. Ride lasts a nice amount of time and my 9 month old got in free.
As a tourist from Australia and lover of The Catcher in the Rye, I had to see the legendary Central Park Carousel. And what a serene & beautiful spot just relaxing on the benches in front. Just as Holden Caulfield described it with the nutty music.
Great for kids and kid-at-heart! Only $3 per ride and adults are allowed. Definitely my favorite part of Central Park!

Why do parents have to pay also?? The child can’t go there alone... it’s the only carousel I’ve been to that the parent had to buy a ticket as well...
The Calliope sounds a little worse for wear and the horses are looking a little tired, but it was a fun nostalgic ride. The same ride kids have been having for decades and decades!
This is an iconic experience but not very exciting for a 10 year old...at least not for mine. On the other hand my youngest lived it as should Everyone who is a kid at heart.

Fast paced clip for a childrens carrousel. Do not attempt if inclined to motion sickness. Otherwise its a classic Central Spark landmark.
Love the fact that it was closed when I went with my 5 year old . I didnt have to pretend I am having a great time.

Dingy and whats with that music? - it made me sick for the first time with kids. Mall carousels are much better.

2018-05-07A reminder of the simpler times in NYC. Im not sure if $3 even covers the electricity and staff that is used to run the carousel. Truly a great deal if you really think about it. I personally dont mind the longer downtime between loads. It gives the parents more time to take photos of their kids on the horses before things get blurry when the carousel starts moving.

2020-01-31This carousel was a surprise I had no idea it was in the park my kids really enjoyed it... perfect on a not so cold day for the kids. There is a cost to go on the ride but i cant remember exactly how much I paid but it wasnt expensive... I took the entrance at Columbus circle and ended up at the carousel after a little walk...
