Central Rock Gym in other cities:
One of the greatest additions to WNY in recent memory. Impressive in size, offerings and affordability. Very supportive and inclusive community atmosphere. Tons of route variety both in level of difficulty and approach, well done routesetters! Staff are phenomenal too- helpful and friendly to the max.
I’m wasn’t a rock climber at all until I tried this place out!I love the facility. There are so many walls to climb for each level, even for someone like me that doesn’t have a lot of experience or skill. There are a bunch of classes and instructors walking the floor to give you advice if they see you stuck on a problem. The people here are super friendly too and it only took a few weeks for me to make a bunch of climbing buddies! It’s also super clean for a gym and smells nice!Try it out for a day and you’d be surprised!
First gym Ive ever joined (and Im over 30). Its never crazy busy and theres plenty of bouldering, top rope routes, lead, and 4 auto-belays (each with 2 routes). Staff is very friendly, polite, and helpful. They also have a small retail section up front with various shoes, chalk bags, chalk, brushes, and tape. Community here is also very fiendly. Gym is clean and tidy, with plenty of places to put your stuff (they have lockers but you dont really need them, this place is about as safe as it gets).Really happy to have this in Buffalo and I highly recommend it to anyone who is thinking about going. If youre thinking about joining, do it, its worth it.
The place is great! I went there for the rock climbing specifically and I definitely wasnt disappointed. The gym pretty much has all the regular old workout equipments so if youre looking to workout then this gym got you. The gym also offers things like yoga, and classes on how to probably operate the climbing equipments. I went there and got a day pass to tryout the rock climbing and the process was pretty smooth. The prices are relatively fair and the service (# of workers) is small but great when the attention is pointed toward you. I really recommend this place because there isnt a lot of unique opportunities such as this in buffalo. My friends and I enjoyed our visit, so Im pretty sure you will as well.
Awesome gym, many options for beginners (like myself) and experienced climbers. Every time I go, which is every other day, there is a few new bouldering problems which keeps things fresh and new. They also offer rope climbing, and sell rock climbing products. The workout gym is nice and clean, and I cannot comment on the yoga room because I have not been inside yet.Best of all - everyone is nice! From staff to other climbers, everyone is friendly and welcoming, it’s very easy to talk and meet new people. 5/5 would recommend anyone to go here if they are the slight bit curious. I went once, loved it so much I joined two days later. I have never joined a gym before but I feel like this is the gym experience many want - easy going, opportunities for growth, and an awesome community.
For starters, I 100% recommend this place for anyone whos looking to have a fun time with a pretty descent workout. Also the more people you bring with you, the better the time youre going to have. The instructors were extremely helpful and even just randomly came up to us to give us some climbing tips which we found to be pretty helpful. With everything you get such as a fitness room, numerous climbing courses, fitness room, and yoga classes (for a small fee). The price of admission in my opinion is completely worth it. If your like physical activities especially with friends, this will be the place for you.
Awesome gym! They have a wide variety of routes that are reset frequently; theres always something to challenge climbers of different strengths and skill levels. Staff are friendly and courteous, and they offer some really helpful classes (which are free if youre a member, except the lead climbing class). The facility itself is clean and well-maintained, and everything feels very safe and secure, which is obviously important in a potentially risky sport like climbing. Just a great gym all around!
Excellent atmosphere. Walls are tall, routes varied. Bathrooms are clean and the lockers do not require a lock. Staff is INCREDIBLY nice and helpful to this newbie climber. The rental gear is clean (and very new!). No atmosphere of attitude or being better than the than others. The kids area looks excellent and Ill be bringing my cousin. Happy to be a member!
The first rock climbing/bouldering gym I have ever been to. My first experience here was fantastic and I even decided to purchase a monthly membership. At first I was thinking about it, but then I found out they have a really nice gym that I can use as well. Spacious and well ventilated. Friendly staff and community. All in all very fun experience for anyone of all ages
I have been to rock climbing gyms in a few different countries. While the concept of courage, clamp & climb is common to all of them its the facility details and community that separates them.Central Rock Gym is located just off from downtown Buffalo and boasts one of the cleanest and accessible facilities in WNY. Not a dingy & remote location like some gyms in have seen in the past.A great aspect of the gym is the amount of amenities that are there as well. CRG adds tremendous value by having a crossfit AND a yoga area all under the same roof. Finally the community is top notch. My guide Justin knew many of the regulars by name and gave me and amazing tour of the facility. The staff as a whole was top notch and there is a very active FB group and offline groups available for people at every skill level. So stop in!! The quarantine is OVERWhen you go make sure you tell them St. James sent you 🤙🏾
Central Rock Buffalo is such an awesome space! The rock walls are super fun and challenging, and there are always new bouldering routes to try! With the climbing, the gym space, and the yoga studio, there is always something new to do, so you’ll never have to worry about being bored at the gym. The staff is super friendly and encouraging! I’d definitely recommend this gym!!
Central Rock is fabulous resource for the community. Not only is it a great work out spot, it also brings all sorts of people together for a good time. I highly recommend the membership if youre looking to have fun exercising while meeting new people along the way.P.S. The yoga classes are FANTASTIC!P.S.S. Go for the membership and not the day pass. By the time you get the pass and rent equipment, youll end up spending around $30! Thats a bit crazy to me. The membership is $79 and you can go as often as you would like throughout the month. The membership is definitely worth it.
Staff is super friendly and helpful, which is great for new climbers like myself! Lots of wall space and the setters have a steady rotation so there’s always new routes to try. Weight room is excellent too, all Rogue equipment which is tough to find in any standard gym. So glad these guys came to Buffalo!

2022-02-01Best place on earth! You won’t find a community quite like the one that’s grown at Central Rock Buffalo. I might be biased, but this is hands down the best Central Rock Gym of them all. Top Tier. The people are the reason why I stay, and the facility is top notch. Swing by!

2022-06-05Really cool facility! Bouldering area is very well organized with plenty of seating with a good variety of walls. Route-setting is on point, pretty accurate with the grading and every boulder felt different which was really cool. The movement patterns of each boulder were unique and you can tell their routesetters know what they’re doing. Staff were really friendly too!

2020-02-26Pros:The staff here are excellent. Ive been going there almost as long as the gym has been open. Every time Ive had an issue, Justin has always seen that its been taken care of. Just a small example, a couple of the lights were out on the Tension Board I mentioned it to the staff and the next day it was fixed. The gym has good equipment that allow you to work targeted muscle groups and become a stronger climber. They have a lot of rope climbs which is new to the area. Its really nice to see new climbers working routes.Getting a membership lets you go to all of the gyms in the Chain. I highly recommend checking out Rochesters CRG. The climbing style is much different, so you can find climbing style diversity by checking out the others in the chain.Cons:The setting is really inconsistent. There have been several climbs that were graded higher than they actually are, and some that are graded lower than they actually are. Having been to several gyms across the east coast its disheartening going from climbing CRG Buffalos v7s to barley being able to climb v5s at the others. The gym is still very young so I definitely think that it will improve. Especially when they start adding new talent and new climbing styles.Young children are often left unsupervised by their parents especially on the weekends. Bring a friend so you can have someone spot kids and keep them away from the wall while your climbing. No one wants to blow off a boulder and land on a 4 year old. Conclusion:Want something to do, go climbing! The cons are really very small issues. Its an excellent gym and the staff are always super friendly. Especially Thomas, the guy is one of the nicest people Ive met.

2019-07-10This place is fantastic! The staff are very helpful and pleasant to work with. They go out of their way to be kind to everyone. We had a noon appointment on a Saturday for Top Rope Belay class. Really knowledgeable and patient. Plus, you can climb as long as you like after your hour instruction. Climbing shoes, harness and chalk provided. Make sure to ask for chalk. If its your first time? Youll need it. The shoes run SMALL! Keep this in mind. You can also digitally sign your release at the gym once you check in. The facility is exceptionally clean. Their yoga studio is wonderful. The whole place is just great. Way to go!! Nice to see this in the city of Buffalo and providing a cleaner side to the aged buildings.

2022-01-26The facility is very nice but the staff here was very subpar. Some were good, and some were awful. If you want to be treated well try going to any other gym, chances are itll be a better experience than here. However, if youre into be treated condescendingly this is the perfect place to go.
