I was here to do a community sponsored event in which I participated in taking the blood pressure readings and Advising members in the community about their health needs and medication. This event also housed different health insurance companies that would help those in need who did not have coverage. There were also different shelters that came with food trucks as well as items for the members and Community with simple things like socks, diet and other information as needed.
Its one of the few urban track and field facilities we have in Manhattan. One may find lacrosse and soccer here. Also a running track with several lanes. Numerous handball courts and a freehand bodyweight workout area. The grassy area will suffice for any stretches. So cardio, strength and flexibility all get covered. There are working water fountains. A childrens bathing fountain adults can post workout cool off in, too. A restroom 🚻 that has a tricky schedule and is hence unreliable. There are several nearby commercial as well as a Parks Dept gym to complement this park with resistance training, swimming, showers, etc. Its a hidden community gem.
This track is not designed for running fast. Its only 3 narrow lanes wide and has 90° turns. The only markings are the start and finish line and where it tells you the distance around is 960 ft, making 5.5 laps a mile. If you are looking for a place to walk, go to the high line instead. If you are looking to run, good luck!

Solid NYC Park. Lots of trees that provide much needed shade on a hot summer day. Seating options include both picnic tables and benches. There’s a sprinkler, a playground, large basketball court and handball courts. Went on a Sunday day and it wasn’t to crowded. Clientele is chill and family oriented.
Not that well maintained. When I tried to enter through an entrance close to the restrooms, I was stopped by a park worker. When I asked for reason he said its closed. Apparently I could see people in the park. I demanded to know the reason for stopping me and he tried to intimidate me by coming close. (he was huge in size and had a rugged look). Then another worker interrupted and said its closed. But I could see that people were in. I got an important call and had to leave it at that. But something seemed fishy with the workers gathered near the restrooms and not letting people through in a public park. It was a week day around 3pm.
If you happen to use a good turf as main field type, you will be happy about it as its a great quality. For sure Football, soccer, there is a track along. Beside that the park is like every little parks in New York, charming but nothing that great. Would recommend for Sport Reasons :)
Has an excellent astrology turf field for soccer and the like. It also has a great playground with sprinklers for the younger children. The only drawback was the very badly maintained restrooms. The floors were flooded and it smelled as though it wasnt cleaned in over a week.

Maybe i just love everything Chelsea. I do! So strolling through and around Chelsea Park is lovely...they have worked hard at the cleaning up of the old Health Care building on 9th Avenue & thats a relief & so pleasant now. The cobble stone walkway was kept in tact around the front...ahhhh, old cobblestones. And the entire park has been renovated over the last year or so ago, so kids & everyone benefit from the playground itself to the soccer field. Good!
Theres- a basketball field 🏀,- a huge soccer field ⚽ (which can be split into smaller fields) ,- a cricket/ tennis 🎾 area (not a real field, but u can exercise there)- a kid area,- a few calisthenic equipment where you can work out (3 abs bench, some bar to do muscle-up and triceps).Great place to do some sport.

2022-01-27Could be an ideal place for schools to bring Their different athletic teams to enjoy a day of competition as there is plenty of good space to have races on the track, and baseball and soccer games on the beautiful green fields that have been renovated, but, oh, so sad to see that the park has become a place for the homeless who stay in the park 24/7, I would not ever ever allow My Children to go near it. The park and its surrounding areas are not safe.

2021-06-11Nice park for what it is. Has a track, synthetic grass field (often used for team sports), and not much else.Wish there were more trees, but it definitely serves the local community well

2022-01-04This park literally has everything when it comes to sports and fitness only downside is it is a good little walk from any convenience store or restaurant so pack a lunch or bring snacks save ya $$$

2019-04-19Only went to the running track and field. The park and surrounding area has a bunch of hobos and crackheads. They would wander onto the field too. The track is small, 960 meters per lap, not made of rubber, only 3 lanes, plus no markers for sprinting, had to approximate. The field is dirty. Oh yeah and the restroom is out of order haha...I guess the only good thing about it is the city part of it. I will not be coming back just to run anymore dough.
