ChessNYC is fantastic. My child started learning through a partnership with the school and has continued with the club’s coaches and tournament. She lives for their weekly tournaments, loves to practice the chess exercises (to the point of having to chase to bed), and it’s really given a sense of true accomplishment. Keep up the great work Michael and team.

The coaches are really nice and the Play N Go leagues give the kids an opportunity to practice and prepare for tournaments and championships

We absolutely love Chess NYC. Its the only program in the city that hosts chess meets on the weekend that allows kids to practice for larger tournaments. The staff is always friendly and knows each individual child and Michael is a truly wonderful coach. He has high standards for the kids, he believes that they can think deeply and achieve their best chess in each and every game. Michael makes this a fun playing environment and the kids love to see their friends every weekend. If you are considering learning chess or playing in games, this is a great way to participate!

Our son loves this camp and seems to be having a lot of fun and playing a lot of chess and that is good enough for me.I do think that if we were more type-A parents we would have problems with the camp as there isnt a lot of communication, counselors turn over day to day and pickup is chaotic. I also am not convinced there is a lot of chess education happening as my son talks more about the water gun fights and the movies he watches at lunch than new opening strategies or narratives of victories.

Chess NYC has been my son’s gateway to the world of chess. At its camps and classes, expert teachers and grandmasters have fostered his interest in the strategic and analytical elements of the game. The tournaments provide him with an excellent opportunity to practice his new skills and to get to know other kids from across the city who share his love for chess. Its after school programs are a great way for young players to get started on their chess journey or to improve their existing skills. Once students start participating in any of its programs or tournaments, they become part of the Chess NYC family. This is evident at every tournament, where the staff gets to know each participant and celebrates equally the efforts and accomplishments of kids at all levels.I strongly recommend Chess NYC to anyone who wants to improve at chess!

Chess NYC has got to be the ultimate chess experience for kids of all ages in New York. The coaches are very passionate about chess and get to know your kids by name, whether the kids are attending the camps or the weekly tournaments. They make you feel like part of the Chess NYC family. The kids all get to know each other, having fun as well as learning and improving their game. There is a lot of flexibility - kids can play for fun and/or competitively - its all down to the individual child. Every Sunday tournament is like a family day-out for us and its so stress-free for both parents and the children! Weve tried other tournaments in the City in the past that dont have that same friendly atmosphere that seems unique to the Chess NYC community. The Chess camp is a blast also, with a great combination of both chess coaching and outdoor fun. I couldnt recommend them highly enough! Oh, and their after-school programs are so varied - theres a suitable class for every age and level of ability, from beginner right up to and including grandmaster classes. All in all, Chess NYC is the best!

So far so good! We got a few private lessons from Chess NYC for our 7 year old before he started chess camp this summer, also at Chess NYC. They make chess fun for kids and have been both awesome and professional. I am sure our child will continue throughout the year in some of their various programs. I highly recommend Chess NYC

Chess NYC is the best place to learn and play Chess in NYC! My son has been attending Play & Go on Sundays for 2 years and to say that our experience has only been positive is an understatement. Mike Propper takes the time to get to know all of his regular players & nurtures and encourages them. My son has grown in skill, confidence and love of the game since he started attending PS. 183 on Sundays. They are not in it for the money - some weeks Ive had to chase them down to pay them! My son loves to spend Sundays at PS. 183 with Mike and the gang, its our home away from home :-) This year we are planning on attending the Chess Nationals for the first time - thanks for the encouragement Mike!

I am not a chess player so Chess NYC is totally responsible for my sons great and abiding love of the game—beginning from kindergarten. Michael makes learning chess such fun and gives the kids so much time to play and Rebecca is an amazing teacher with the patience of a saint. Highly recommended.

My 6 year old son has been enrolled in after-school chess with Chess NYC since he was a kindergartner. (They also teach chess in the classroom during the day.) He’s now in first grade and loves the coaches (especially coach Rebecca) and the game. The whole program is terrific and everyone has the right intentions. We’ve gone to tournaments with Chess NYC as well as done the play n go’s. He tried the half-day camp today at ps 183 and had a great time! We will definitely do it again this summer.
