I ordered pad Thai today and either they made a mistake or it needs some serious updating because the noodles were plain noodles with shrimp and tofu thrown in. When I say plain, I literally mean they boiled the noodles and threw in some shrimp. They forgot all of the flavor...We also ordered the Tom yum soup and Hakka Noodles which were both okay.I am a normal food connoisseur so please take my opinion.
Buffet line was good for a lunch spot but the food was overwhelmingly underwhelming. I’m sorry to say there was no taste or seasoning which is disappointing for Indian cuisine. I asked for some spicy sauces but they came out only when I was almost done with my meal. The staff was also talking/arguing very loudly in the back during my entire meal. I wish you luck but I don’t think I’ll be dining here again.
Been here a couple of times, my wife and I never get past the appetizers. The drums of heaven and the chili shrimp are amazing. The veggie momos are very spicy but tasty, be careful! The most important part of the restaurant is the host, her politeness and energy are one of a kind. It wouldnt be the same without her.
Came here after several years, and I have to admit New Chili and Curry has lost a step. We ordered drums of heaven which were impressive in size but was over and undercooked. The CTM was inedible, the chicken was very rubbery (couldnt even break down with a spoon). The gravy was tasty however too much food coloring used. The Mali Kofta was taste was also off, cant really articulate this one well but something was definitely off. Service was good and friendly as always. Kinda pretty disappointed with the experience considering it was suppose to be a father son lunch
This time I just got their mango lassi and I must say it’s the better of the lassis in the area. It’s the perfectly balanced in yogurt, mango and sweetness. In general while I think their food is over priced I’ll still pay it because the curries are so very delicious. The inside is small and cozy and well decorated. I’d recommend both take out and dine in if you can get a spot.
One word summation: flavorful. All the dishes were packed with a punch from the soups to the entrees. Ordered the sweet and sour soup and Tom kha chicken soup- both were delicious. Tom kha was a bit salty for me but great consistency and flavor. We ordered*Hakka chili chicken - tender and juicy dark meat pieces, could have used more spicy. It was delicious but a little tangy for my liking*Chetinand chicken- delicious! Tender, white meat pieces, seasoned well, gravy consistency was excellent*Lamb biriyani- so much flavor in the rice and meat, but I think the dish needed to rest for a bit- the rice was still wet with seasoning.*Vegetable Manchurian- probably wouldnt order again...more dough than vegetables. But the sauce and seasoning used was very flavored
It used to be our go to Indian place for years. The food USED to be so incredibly good and satisfying ( the service has always been hit and miss… but I didn’t care as long as I got my Indian food fix 🤣) but not sure what happened to this place!?!? We were so happy when they reopened for dine in after COVID struck but what a disappointment! The food was just inedible and awful. I’m wondering were the good chef went so I could follow. ☺️
Really like this place☺️ the food was great(must like spicy and heavily seasoned food curry )and the staff is very polite and kind(regardless of the look on their face🤭) not pricey at all. You get a lot of food for the value over all great experience, only wished the place was bigger(the tables are really close together)
I had never been to this restaurant but heard it was well-regarded and even rewarded for its Indian cuisine. Today, my lovely boyfriend took me and we had no idea we would be in for one of the wildest experiences of our lives. We walked in and asked for a table for 2 at around 7:30 pm on a tuesday. The manager(?) started moving tables around the near empty restaurant and when he was ready he shouted, come here! as his way of showing us our seats. Upon being seated, our server handed us menus and said, just so you know, we dont serve Chinese food. We were confused since we very much new this was an Indian restaurant and had no intention of ordering Chinese food. While we waited for our orders, the restaurant emptied and a server and the manager(?) started arguing over an order for delivery. The manager accused the server of lying and the server was not having it. So we just sat there politely minding our own business in this small restaurant where you can see and hear everything. Then, a disgruntled customer came in and complained to the manager(?) about his food. He apparently ordered food that had a rotten tomato and complained about how the food wasnt like it used to be. He asked if there was a change of management because of how different and bad it was. The manager just said no. Again, we politely minded our own business, now worried about the food we were about to receive. Our entrees were delicious and the restaurant was completely filled by the time we left (8:30 pm). If you are looking for dinner and a show (or two), this is the place to go.
By far one of the worst Indo Chinese food Ive had! We ordered cauliflower manchurian..it was so bland that I think they forgot to maybe add manchurian sauce or something?! There literally was ZERO flavor to that dish. Next was Vegetable hakka noodles, with one bite, my mouth was on fire, and I definitely eat spicy but this was beyond spicy. Then we got chilli paneer which was just ehhh. We also ordered some non veg dishes which I cant judge on since I didnt eat that but overall..I definitely will not be ordering from here again!
My husband and I have been coming here for 7 years or more—honestly don’t remember how we found this place but SO glad that we did. Their food is some of the BEST Indian food I’ve had in NY and that says a lot because I grew up here and have tried almost every Indian restaurant there is.I love the staff here—especially the middle aged woman who usually is running the place. She & the staff are always kind, attentive, and personalize your experience.Especially love their hot and sour soup & tom kha soup here. Honestly can’t go wrong with any of the entrees here.
We’ve been getting food here for a few years. Every single dish an absolute favorite until a few months ago. Very suddenly, the recipes seemed to change (I’ve read similar reviews saying they’re under new ownership). I wouldn’t say it’s bad, but it’s certainly not up to the standards we were used to.
Been recommending this place for years. Ive been a huge fan for as long as its been open but just found out(after ordering and eating a bunch of items) the chef and ownerships changed......and so did the quality and taste of the food. We did take out as always and I called the restaurant after just 2 bites to inquire about the change as every dish was proggressivly terrible. So disappointed that one of the last Indian food places with consistently good food on LI is gone.
I’ve been going to this place for years now but our experience today was extremely bad. Got the appetizers after 15+ min wait and the main course after another 30+ mins. The food was bland and flavorless. The batter on fish pakora had no salt or seasoning, the chilli paneer was the same. Got a hint of curry leaves in chicken chettinad but that’s it! Came back with a feeling of absolute no flavor or taste and a bill of $75. Very disappointing, will not be returning - not anytime soon. They are very busy with huge catering trays and takeout orders while the guests in the restaurant just waited away.
Cozy intimate restaurant with about 8 tables. Restaurant is nicely decorated however getting on a little in age. Seating is very tight with barely enough space to get to some seats. Make sure you check the hours because they are limited. We were 4 and went for the weekday buffet. The butter chicken and goat dishes were excellent. Hot fresh Naan was brought to the table and refilled often. There were about 4 servers to 8 tables so service was top notch and friendly. Constantly clearing away used dishes and refilling water etc. The buffet was a steal at only 8.95 per person weekdays. Recommend you get there early for the best table and selections.
New management apparently! The terminology of don’t fix what isn’t broken relatively applies in that they changed recipes and menu and as a result the food quality and taste is dramatically worse. So sad!Attempted to eat here again and give it another shot. No change. Transformation from some of the best tasting food 6 months ago to now fast food like McDonald’s is much more satisfying. This time lamb was undercooked, fish was flavorless, curry tasted watered down. Word of advice to the new management, find new chefs or try to get back the old chefs and possibly rehire the old management and just learn from them.
We went to Chili & Curry after a long time. We used to go here quite often pre - Covid. Our most recent experience was a complete, total, utter disappointment, especially when I compare with previous experience. It looks like the owners and/or management has changed.. and in a nutshell, this place has fallen from outstanding to below average.Food:Completely bland. No flavor at all. We ordered pretty much the same dishes that we used to order. The first thing I noticed was lack of seasoning and flavors. Chicken appetizer was overcooked and rubbery. I had trouble swallowing that hard, flavorless, bland rubber. I was only able to swallow with a gulp of water.Chicken entree was nothing to write about. Not even enough salt.. forget about rest of the flavor profile.(Previously, this place used to be our most favorite Indian restaurant.)Service:The waitress had no idea what she was doing. She and the other waiter cleared our plates before our full round of appetizers was served. When the manager/owner pointed out to her that we still had a couple of appetizers coming our way, she placed the old plates back. I honestly dont know whether or not she gave each of us our own plates back. By this time, we were so utterly dumbfounded, that none of us could think of what to say. She eventually gave us new plates and we finished our appetizer round.By the time we were half way through our main course, our disappointment was probably showing clearly on our faces. The owner/manager came to us asking if everything was fine. The way he did so was so apologetic.. it was like he knew he was serving bland/tasteless food with a less than mediocre service.(The service here used to be stellar. The previous owners, a husband-wife couple, used to provide such a homely and warm experience.)I am never going back there again. I genuinely felt bad for that place. We have such fond memories of the food and the service there. But with the new management/owners and the staff, this place is doomed.
2019: Great food but the space is a bit tight so we typically order to go. Would recommend trying the chili garlic noodles and chicken makhani.Update 2022: the management has changed and sadly it’s far from the same. We’ve eaten here (take out always) atleast once a month for years but I think it’s time to move on. Waited 90mins for a noodle and chicken order, which turned out to be terrible. Once before I called and they said no Chinese this week because chef is away so that’s half their menu unavailable… miss “my dear” but hope she’s doing well
Ordered Chicken lollipop, Chicken Fried rice and Chicken in Hot Garlic sauce. Lollipop was mushy and just completely flat. Not crispy at all. Fried rice was ok Chicken in Hot garlic sauce was sweet and felt like had honey in it. All in all a very disappointing experience. I have been ordering from here for many years now. The standard has gone down. Don’t think will order here at least in the near future. Feel sad since this place’s food was amazing
Have eaten here for take out many times and always have great food. cant think of any bad experiences. It gets super busy and waits can be crazy because its very popular and its a small place. I have eaten at most of hicksvilles Indian and Afghan cuisines and this is still my go to for take out indian.
I ordered first time from this restaurant and The vegetable Manchuria which I ordered was not tasting good. It was almost similar to a dish named kofta. I don’t know whether they have miss placed the box while packing. To be honest I didn’t liked the food and it’s taste. And I paid 15.15 bucks for it. I would have ordered it from the regular restaurant I usually get it from.
Love it. When my wife and I went, the customers appeared to be mostly Indian which is a good sign. We were back and forth about what to order when an Indian man on the next table just told us to trust him and he ordered for us! Lol. Needless to say it was incredible! Will be back soon.
Super delicious and spiced Indian, Chinese & Thai food. Place not too big and there normally a wait, is worth for the lip smacking delicious food they serve. Nice courteous and welcoming staff.I would surely recommend this place for food lovers especially if they love spiced food.Like it of this review has helped.
Weve been coming here for over 2 years now and they have yet to disappoint us. Food is always fresh and the flavors omg it will make your mouth dance. Staff is always friendly and smiling, great place if you love spicy, fresh, delicious food. The vegan menu is also very good.
This is a modest sized Indian Chinese restaurant. The chicken Hakka noodles, and the chicken dumplings are a spot on North Indian take on Chinese food. The ambiance is nothing notable, but the place is reasonably priced and great for takeaway or a quick dinner.Worth a visit with kids and family for lunch or informal dinner.Service with a smile.
This is my go to place for Indian Chinese fusion food on Long island. The food has so much flavor it is a must. The restaurant itself is very small and can probably site around 30 people comfortably. The lines to get a table on Friday or Saturday night can be up to 45 mins wait, but its worth it. I have also done take out from here and the food is just as good.
Food and service is amazing. Every waiter and staff member have been lovely and happy to explain any menu items you have questions on or give suggestions. Have never eaten a bad thing here. Highly recommend the cauliflower manchurian. 4 stars is because parking is bad (in the whole area) and restaurant is very small. You can be waiting a long time if you want to dine-in. Go early or late, even on a weekday.
Great food that is somewhat a fusion. Mix of Indian. Chinese and Thai flavors in some of the dishes. Dishes are fresh and flavorful but are on the smaller portion side. Tried to eat in one day but the place is small and always full on the weekends with a wait of more than an hour. So always been taking out food here.
I like this place! They serve marvelous meals, their menu is decent, The cook in that place is very trained, I enjoy very much eating all their food. The food is always fresh and tasty, the attitude towards the guests is good. I visit often this restaurant and I not even once was discontended. Highly recommended.
This is a great example of a local family owned restaurant. Expect a wait because the restaurant is small. They do a huge take out business. Staff makes you feel very welcome. Huge menu of Indian and Thai dishes. Breads are incredible. I love the nan and the onion Kulcha. You have to try the Manchurian cauliflower app. Main dishes are not huge, but so flavorful. Curried goat is awesome. Fish dishes are fresh with plenty of healthy choices. Try this place but get there early.
I absolutely love the food here. The service is quick and friendly. However, it is a small but popular place, so there is a usually long wait for a table during the weekend. (Although it is worth the wait)If you dont want to wait, I would recommend ordering takeout, which is also done well or go on a less busy day. Unfortunately , you cant make reservations, so it wouldnt work well to come with a big party.
Great selection of Indian and fusion Thai food. Food is consistently good, never really have a complaint. Place is small and gets filled quickly. Parking not too great, may have to park and walk a block. Highly recommend checking this place out, you wont be disappointed.
I was extremely disappointed that it costed me $60.00 to receive a poorly made Rogan Josh lamb with a flavorless tomato sauce. Also the Bengal Fish was very tough, and had an aged taste, it was not edible in my opinion. I could have gone to the store and picked up frozen fish if I wanted tilapia with tomato sauce. The papaya salad was about the size of a side dish but was probably the best dish I ordered in regards to flavor. The green coconut curry shrimp had a nice creamy sauce and the shrimp was decently cooked. Overall not the best place for your cost and overrated. Please do your customers a good service and provide quality meals.
Ive been coming here since 2016. I used to visit this place frequently but I have reduced coming here. The reason is they treat us differently than other people who come here. And this is not just once but has happened multiple times. They gave complimentary appetizer for everyone except us? We initially thought this might have been a mistake. But it happened multiple times. Even when the place was crowded and even when it was empty. We could clearly see that they treated as though we didnt deserve to be there. They are extremely jovial with everyone in the restaurant but us. They dont even look at us while they serve our table. Again, this is not just once. They have done this every single time weve been there. The only reason that I am even reviewing this and giving one star is because I like their food and I am extremely disappointed with their discriminatory attitude.I dont know the reason why they are doing this. But whatever the reason is, it is basic courtesy to treat people in the same way when you are providing service.
I adore this place! They give first-cleass dishes, their menu is rich, The chef in that restaurant is a real pro, I like a lot trying all their dishes. The food is consistently fresh and tasty, the attitude towards the visitors is efficient. I go often to this restaurant and I not even once was discontended. I recommend it with no hesitation.
Hicksville is known colloquially as Little India. Route 106/107 is peppered with Indian dress shops, bakeries and sweet shops, restaurants and salons.Tucked away on Woodbury Ave, New Chili and Curry is without a doubt my favorite/go-to for Indian food. The staff is always friendly and happy to see you. Ive never left disappointed with either the food or service. This was the first place Ive had Indian food. The interior isnt very large, but thats what I like about it. It can get close and a little loud, but I find it charming.I recommend getting there before the dinner rush starts. Sometimes waiting to be seated can take about an hour. They do have take-away available.
The service is good but the food is flavorless. If you want authentic flavorful food go to some other Indian place. The food comes a-little cold, chilli chicken wasn’t that good neither was the Hakka noodles flavorless. Manchurian was like it was out of the box nothing they made. Fish tikka had no flavor at all. They jus put in food color and cooked it that’s it. Overall my rating is 0 for food. Not the type of food to eat.
I almost didnt go in because of what it looked like on the outside, but as soon as my g/f and I walked in, we knew this place was the real deal. The decor was on point, the staff was super nice, very friendly... and the food was excellent. My g/f got the mango chicken, and I got the boti lamb kebab. They serve it in dishes that are easily shared amongst the table, so we were able to try everything without having to reach for each others plates. Both dishes were excellent. It was a great experience the whole way through. I will definitely be going back there, and I live in Suffolk.
We usually go to this restaurant and their butter chicken with Naan is good, however today when we went it was very high in salt. We called the waiter and asked if anything changed and he replied with nobody else is complaining, its fine. Its unfortunate that we recommended this restaurant to our friends and family and today when we all went it was a bad experience. This restaurant was good but the rudeness from the waiter was unexpected. Wont be coming here for food again.
One of my favorite spots. I would recommend going for lunch or when they first open for dinner because its not as busy. Its a small restaurant and there is usually a wait. Oh and their spicy can get really spicy so if thats not your thing, be sure to order your entree mild.
Seriously good! Went there for dinner tonight and the place was packed! There were people waiting outside! Although they were very busy the staff were all really friendly and inviting, it didn’t feel rushed. Great customer service from the hostess to the busboy. The food was FANTASTIC! To start I tried their Paneer Tikka, Samosa chat & tum yum soup. For the main course I went with their vegetable manchurian in gravy with spicy garlic friend rice it was all so delicious! 10 out of 10 if you’re reading this and are thinking of trying them out do it, you won’t regret it!
The food was literally a delight. Exceptionally delicious. However the service was horrible. Our waiter rushed us to give our order because we walked in 35 minutes before closing time. He was impatient with answering our questions. We almost walked out. I would definitely order takeout from here but never recommend eating there.
This has to be hands down the best Indian food on the island for the price. But as a man of Indian origin heres what I can point out: Food isnt overly spicy so it fits most pallets. Portions are Americanized (big) so nothing to complain here either. Staff is very friendly if you arent a brown man (no minus stars for this because so used to it). The waiters may be frowning and look grumpy or maybe even rude on the phone, but trust me they are smiling inside and probably jumping around with glee even. The only con I see is parking - there is literally no parking so you might have to park across the street or a block down.
My review used to be 5 stars, now I think it should be 3.5. Heres why. I used to come here for lunch fairly often. They had a nice, inexpensive lunch buffet for as far as I can remember. Now they got rid of the buffet, either to increase space (the place is fairly small,) to increase earnings, or both. So now they have dinner prices for all the dishes throughout the whole day. For dinner I think the place is still good. The food is very tasty. But for lunch its too expensive. The service is OK. Its quick, but not very polite. The men are mostly indifferent and not very friendly, and the one woman I saw today was very friendly, but in a fake sort of way. The guy was weird too: when he came to take our order, he asked me what I want. I started saying I would like when the guy cuts me off and finishes for me Chicken Tikka Masala? Now Tikka Masala is probably the most popular Indian dish among westerners because its mild, tasty, and safe. Its kind of like if you came into a sushi place and the waiter automatically assumed you wanted the California roll. So I cant say that sort of patronage is appreciated.Rating breakdown:Food: still a 5Service: 3.5Price: 3 for lunch, 4 for dinner
This place is a little cramped for space and the wait time is long but the food is worth the wait. We had to wait about 40-45 mins to get a table for two and they dont have a waiting space so everyone kind of stood shoulder to shoulder just by the front door because the temperature outside was below 20 degrees. The menu consists of many different varieties to choose from and we ordered couple of appetizers and the maincourse. Everything was very good and flavorful. Price also seemed very reasonable. I would recommend to try the chilly garlic fried rice, Fried Shrimp appetizer and the hot tom yum soup. The only star I took off was because of the service. I think the service could have been a little better. Overall a nice experience and I hope to go back again.
The place is lil small but the ambience is gud. We ordered chicken biryani and Thai Shrimp curry. Biriyani is exceptional but the shrimp curry was really bad. When we informed the waiter abt it, he argued the curry was good and did not even ask for a replacement and we paid for the whole curry even though we did not have it. That was disappointing from our side.
Ordered pickup and they missed one item in the order. Had to order again and pickup. That is the part which was still acceptable considering that the food was terrible tasting. We ordered the dry gobi manchurian, malai kofta, fried rice, veg momos, and garlic naan. Not one item was worth eating. The worst was the malai kofta then manchurian then momos then rice. Naan was average. In short, I will never order from here again and if you are ordering anything I then i would recommend thinking twice. Its a total waste of money. Mind you this food was shared among 5 family members and no one liked it. This is only my 2nd review ever and I do not write reviews so if I am taking the time out then it must tell you how bad the food was. There are many other Indian food restaurants to try. Dont waste your money at this restaurant. The food was bland and undercooked.
Consistently delicious food. Menu spans Indian, Thai, Chinese and Hakka. Be prepared to wait though, unless you arrive at open or after meal time rush hour. The menu also offers inexpensive drinks. Service is sometimes slow but always polite and correct. This is a unique Hicksville jewel.
Ordered first time from this place and I think it might be my last time ordering from here. Their online prices are different than in restaurant.. I had ordered take out and paid 15-20% more. When asked why, the answe was that the previous owner had those prices set up online and we don’t have the password to change them... wow ... what an excuse when you run a business....
Saw the reviews so figured Ill try it out. The place wasnt that appealing outside, the inside was small, and cozy, but reeked of bad water smell or sewer. Certain things didnt look too clean and the dim lighting didnt help.My food wasnt good to me, kinda nasty. And in my drink I could taste that disgusting water. I wouldnt go back. I tossed everything but my rice pudding and naan. Disappointing.
Hidden gem. This small place is always packed with people from all demographic. There is usually a 20-30 min waite time during dinnertime however its well worth it.Food is exceptionally good as well as service unmatched with anyother resturant around. If you want to avoid wait in line order to go.
I have been going to this place since they opened, I want to say more than 9 years for sure and food used to taste good. Indo Chinese is good ( I am vegetarian). North Indian dishes used to taste very authentic. I feel as they got busy taste hasnt been the same. Kumar and Sanam are good folks . If you are in area and like Indian food, do pay them visit. You might like it
Long Islands spread of vegan places is overwhelmingly disappointing. But! This little place is quite nice ( although, it is not exclusively vegan). I have ordered from them, and dined in many times and have never been displeased. Now, I can only speak of the taste of the vegan dishes: not overly oily, spicy or overcooked. You can actually taste the veggies and appreciate the sauce it was cooked in. Service is great as well. Please, dont change.
Heads up, youre going to have to park far away as there is never any spaces out front. Been here a few times and have yet to win the lottery on getting one of those golden spots nearby!Im always wary of a place that does multiple cuisines, and this place has not changed my mind. The highly recommended Drums of Heaven were awful. Tasted only of soy sauce and sweetness, no bite, no heat - very disappointing. They were also extremely fatty, not much meat once youve managed to chew your way through the skin.Had multiple things here, but have to say they hit the ball out if the park with their Indian menu, the Saag and the Rogan Josh are phenomenal. Just stick with the Indian flavours and you wont be disappointed.Big plus for having a good Asian beer selection and chilled glasses. Touché.
This is the best Indian restaurant I’ve ever been to and it’s very vegetarian friendly! They have some Thai and Chinese dishes too. Definitely get soup- I’ve tried all of their veggie soups and they were all delicious! Be sure to ask for “American medium” or mild spice levels if you can’t handle super spicy food. Their lunch buffet is also great and inexpensive. They close for dinner prep between 3-5 PM.Edit: they can also make some dishes vegan. I recommend getting palak tofu, which isn’t on the menu but is a veg version of palak paneer (spinach and cheese).Note: it’s a really small restaurant and they can’t accommodate large parties (>6 people). Also, there may be a long wait for dinner but it’s worth it!
Ordered multiple dishes for pick up, both Indian and Thai styles, all were sadly not flavored and salted properly. The basil chicken, had chicken pieces that were dry, chewy, and over cooked, the vegetable Hakka noodles had under cooked, almost raw veggies in it, the manchow soup was very salty. I spent a good deal of money on my food and didnt get the quality of food I had in the past, at this restaurant. Totally disappointed! Wont be ordering from here again!
One of the best place on the island for Indian food. They also have Thai food too. During dinner time which starts at 5pm the wait can be long (40mins) but its worth it. They have a extensive menu. Went there more than 40 times and probably still yet to try more then half the menu.
The service is very fast and the food is good for an authentic classic indian meal consisting of the staples of indian cuisine from paneer dishes to naans. They also offer a variety of indo Chinese and thai food. Although a small place and fairly crowded, the food is decent and I would recommend it to any person that is looking eat a no nonsense indian meal that is kind to their wallet
This place is a bit far out from where we live (Brooklyn) but its hands down our favorite spot when we want some Indian food. Everything about this place is fantastic. The food is great, the people are great the only issue would be that it is a small place so there is always a long wait if you come at peak times but trust me its worth the wait!
A bit of a tight squeeze as far as the size of the dining room, but this gives it a cozy feel and adds to its charm. From the outside it looks like a two family house, most likey was at one point, (which may explain why it is a little cramped) regardless, the food is great, delicious and decent portions per plate. I also found the servers to be friendly and accommodating, parking can be a bit difficult, so may have to search a bit.
A very small place which at busy times means theres a line.I was slightly disappointed by the food, which was pretty bland with all the spice taken out for a western palette, more chilli please!! The service was pretty chaotic with carry out orders being given out in the already confined space and people standing about looming over the tables. Not a great experience.
Went for the first time and had worst experience. It was about 1.30 p.m. of some weekend I entered this restaurant. Instead of welcoming or just a greeting, the staff there rudely asked me whether I was looking for someone there? I knew it was closing at 2 p.m. They could have told me it would close in half hour but they behaved as if they dint want to welcome and serve the customer. Never ever go there.
New Chili & Curry used to be a favorite take-out spot for me anytime I was in the Hicksville area. However, today was my last visit there - ever! I had met up with a co-worker for lunch who had never tried Indian food and wanted to try it. I decided to take her to New Chili & Curry because of all its good reviews and from past experiences. She was excited to try the food as it was Zagat rated. We ordered our food and we began to eat when it arrived. She remarked about how good it was. And then a cockroach crawled onto the table right by her glass of water. I quickly called the waiter and he killed the cockroach right on the table and swiftly replaced her glass of water. At this point, we had both lost our appetite and asked for the bill. While waiting for the bill, another cockroach crawled onto the chair next to my friend. At this point, we went up to speak to someone who seemed like the manager. He quickly apologized and said just give me $20. I paid him, tipped the waiter, and left the restaurant. Now that I think about it, Im livid that the manager had me pay $20 for food that was barely eaten and had to experience cockroaches dining with us at our table. My friend will probably never try Indian food again.New Chili & Curry was not worthy of a Zagat rating based on todays experience.
Wow! The food here is super amazing! They have the best Indochinese food I have ever eaten! I am sure that their Indian food and Thai food are just as great since I never tried it. The service is great and the staff is friendly and always smiling. My wife and daughter love this place just as much as I do.I can see why the queue just to get a table is always long going out the door in this small restaurant off Broadway in Hicksville. We like to meet up with our friends in Long Island and eat here. Every time we go to Long Island for some other reason, we always make it a point to make a detour to swing by here to either dine in or take out to eat at home. It does not matter which part of the Island we are on.The appetizers I highly recommend are the chicken lollipop drumsticks, chili paneer dry and the eggplant manchurian dry. My favorite entree is the hot and garlic chicken. These menu items are very yummy that these have become the standard and default food that I always order. The drive to Hicksville to this place from anywhere is totally worth it!
Very very rude behavior, I went there for lunch at 1.46 PM and server said we hold down let me check with boss if it’s ok to let you sit. He came back and said you have only 10 minutes to eat or if you want to take out? I said why then he said we close at 2 PM every day . I replied who close at 2 PM at lunch time? I don’t know how they are doing business in that place
First timer after reading the reviews on google and living in Hicksville. Parking is lacking but that was the only issue. Yes restaurant is small but love love love the décor. The people who work there are great, friendly, helpful in choosing what to eat (but google reviews helped a lot). The Cauliflower Manchurian/Dry app....OMG ! Ate the entire plate. Arrived at 6p....by 630p couldnt get into the place on a Thurs night. they do a lot of take out probably for that reason other than the food being excellent. Hakka noodles were on my plate as well. Will definitely be back to try more!
The place is small but nice. The bathroom was clean. Rice chip basket were great. Light and fluffy. The rest of the meal went south. Adequate but disappointing. The whole vegetable platter was disgusting and tasted like it was left over from the buffet line. The samosa was hard. Chicken vindaloo was mild in spices. Salty Chicken tikka masala with very mild spices. The service was good. IF you loved Rangmahal this place will disappoint you.
I. Love. This. Place. Naan is fresh and buttery. Kebabs are delicious. Drums of heaven are heavenly. Spicy Coriander soup is so spicy :) excellent service. Lovely, cozy place for a casual date. It gets crowded during dinner hours. Put your name on the pad and let them know youre there. Their hosting game is a little meh, but once you get past that, youll love it. We love lamb pasanda, rogan josh, chicken vindaloo, chicken chettinad, hakka chili chicken, malai kofta. Paneer paratha and garlic naan is good. I Support this place because theyre consistently on point with food and service.
The food is excellent like so many other reviewers have already stated but the service is the best Ive ever seen in a restaurant. I dont think I went 5 seconds with an empty glass of water. Every staff member we interacted with was super friendly and actually seemed like they wanted to engage in conversation with us.
Generally good food. But this time they totally messed my take out order. when I called back to inform, instead of acknowledging, they put the blame on me that I was rushing for my order. was told 20 mins wait.. then I went after 30 mins. was told to wait another 5 mins.. which I couldnt... so they just packed up unprepared food as is.. which I realized after coming to my room. How can you do that knowingly ??? its not abt 10 or 5 mins more... but knowingly how can you serve unprepared food ? this is beyond any kind of responsibility.
Im a loyal customer who always visits this establishment. This time I stopped by with my family of 9 on a Sunday, usually its only 4 of us. Initially after walking in they told us itll be an hour wait.. a few minutes after they then told us they dont have any room for the two 6 month old babies that were with us. I noticed there weee other couples waiting so I assume they weee just trying to make up an excuse so we would decide not to eat there. In the end we decided to leave to another spot. I would have much appreciated it if they were just honest with us from the beginning. I wont be eating here again and will let my other friends and family who visit here know as well.
This is a small indian restaurant in the heart of hicksville, the place is small but that doesnt mean there is any compromise on the food quality.Food served here is one of the best indian/thai food in hicksville area. There is a long wait time during peak hours so you might consider getting in early to avoid long wait times. The Gobhi mannchurian/Manchurian cauliflower was awesome a must try , most of the dishes are good and tastes great. The Bread basket was also great with Naan, onion kulcha, aloo paratha and dishes portions are small but there are very tasty. Must try for indian/thai food lovers. On weekdays there is also a Lunch Buffet which is a good way to get introduced to a good variety of indian food. There is one issue about this place which is the parking , there is not enough parking near the restaurant area and you might want to consider that while visiting the area.
I was introduced to this place a few years ago and now its the only place I go for Indian food. Its a great place to bring someone who has never tried Indian food before since there extensive menu also has a lot of delicious Chinese food on it too. I could eat the naan everyday of my life.
First of all I have no clue how this is a 4 Star place. So we came here two different times to find out that wait for 2 people would be around an hr each time. I don’t like to wait that long for a seat at a restaurant so left both times. Came the third time at exact 5 pm on a Saturday to check out what the hype was. Got sat down quickly and stuff. Appetizers came in quickly, I tried the drums of heavens and cauliflower Manchurian. Firstly, no meat on the chicken and I could literally taste dough on couple of pieces of chicken. Cauliflower was also raw. Then main course took about 45 mins to come and it came cold. Chicken tikka was super sweet. And I guess they don’t really know how to make roti or naan. Naan was underdone and doughy and roti overdone and crunchy.I’m from India, been and had much better food than this. I can make you better tasting food at home.If you really get driven by hype and would like super average Indian food then this place is the place to go.
Do you want to eat yummy Indian chinese food, dnt doubt to visit this place, ull surely love it. Sitting area is not very big, sometimes you have to be in the waiting BUT worth waiting it. Mention the servers about your spice level otherwise ull not enjoy.. If it is your birthday, tell them theyll bring u a small cake with a nice birthday song, which is really impressive..
They are very bad at accommodating big parties. I called in advance to go for my moms birthday. They told me they don’t take reservations. I show up with a party of 8 and was turned away at the door because they wouldn’t accommodate a large party. I asked them what the wait time was, he said no wait time we can’t accomodate your party of 8.
This is probably my 7th time here. Despite my failed attempts to beat the wait, it seems that this place is always packed. However, its always worth the wait. The food is well made l, abd the Thai and Indian flavors come out well. I also must mention the choices of beer available.
Atmosphere: quaint (small and jammed with visually eye appealing Indian decor), homey (the owner and his wife are always on the floor talking to guests (they are very welcoming and willing to help you choose whats best for you), authentic (his wifes from Thai and hes from India-doesnt get more authentic), fun (the service, diff. kind of food, and general feeling of excitement always makes it fun for me), not for romance, but definitely for explorers or a nice 2nd date if youre looking for something differentMenu: Whenever I go I usually get the Manchurian cauliflower (sweet, crispyish, delectable), nan (not sure if spelling right) their garlic bread, which is super soft, large for the order and nice to scoop up sauces with, tiki Marsala, which is custom spiced (I believe we usually get the medium- Indian which is like a 3:6 on a heat scale), gorgeously thick, but creamy, and Ive had some meatballs and eggplant dish, which I cant remember, but every dish is so good! They have 2 sauces on the table with airy and light crispy noodles instead of something like bread. The food is served in the brass looking bowls and the portions are enough for 2-3 people to split. The only few downsides to this place is that the wait is always 45 or more minutes for 3 or more people from the 6pm-8pm time and they dont take reservations. It can be crappy when the weather is bad because, since you have to wait outside. THe place is very tiny, so theres no standing room and its more like a NYC restaurant, because the tables are very close.
My favorite food from this place is the shrimp Masala with Garic naan. Their papay salad is good as well. This place is usually packed with people. Its a bit pricey but the quality of the food and service pays off.I would definitely come back to this place and recommend this place to my family and friends.
Walked past this place one time and the smell of delicious food tempted me in. Decided to try the buffet one day after reading the reviews. Buffet had salad, noodles (vegetarian hakka maybe), hot and sour chicken soup, sweet corn soup, onion pakora with sweet and sour red chutney, tangy green chutney, and I think yogurt, chicken tikka masala, tarka dal, goat curry, white rice, and kheer. Naan basket was brought to the table. I was hoping to try the rice crackers and the host was kind enough to get me a complimentary basket full of crackers. I found the crackers, both soups, chutneys, and goat curry to be very good. I have had better naan and chicken tikka masala, which were okay here. I usually do not like the kheer with whole rice, but the kheer tasted good. Finished the buffet with an order of the Thai tea. I do not habitually drink caffeinated beverages and I found the tea to be way too strong and very bitter. The owner watched my expression as I drank the tea and took it back to the kitchen. When he brought it back after making adjustments, it was acceptable. The taste reminded me of the one time I experimented making tea by roasting tea powder as a kid. My experience of the buffet was made less enjoyable by a fly that hovered near my table. I asked my host to take care of it and he could temporarily drive it away with a swatter. My impression is the place has some great dishes. The owner tries his best to make you comfortable. I may be back to try some other dishes from the menu.
Extremely excellent food & service; I was hooked as soon as I tried it and the employees there are endlessly accommodating. I went there for the first time and didnt have cash...and since their credit limit is $20 they even let me pay next time. Only complaint? I wish theyd pick up the phone when I call to place an order!
I went to this place because the rating was good but will never go there anymore. The food was bad, and still overpriced. Most of our dishes were no flavor at all. “Naans” were burnt and dishes were salty. Chicken Jalfrezie was sweet and Methi Chicken was so salty and had no taste at all. I would never recommend this place at all. Do not go to this place as per star rating. Horrible place ....
We went to this place because the rating was good but will never go there anymore. The food was bad, and still overpriced. Most of our “Naans” were burnt and kabab was bitter. The customer service was horrible too, no greetings, no smiles, and the owner told us not to come on weekends and the evenings because they are very busy at that time. ????
Couple things:1. Our first or second or third time2. Now pregnant so I can’t eat spicy like I used to :(3. I love me some mango lassi. That all being established, I LOVE THEM. The food can’t get any better, when I was able to eat spicy it hurt soooo good.Everyone there treats you like an individual, not a number. They’re always kind above and beyond expectations. You can’t go wrong ordering from here. Legit one of our worries during covid has been hoping they survived it well. Also: MANGO LASSSIIIII!!!
Had a little e-xtra spice added to the Chicken tikka Masala, and Naan, it was very spicy, but sooo good !!! This was my first time there and It was very good. Some apps were high in salt but delish. The wait staff is great, they worked hard to make sure everyone had everthing they needed.
Very disappointed! Such a shame ..We are here right now. we reserved for 5 people . We were waiting patiently .we just asked the server how much time does it take ? , he goes like “do you want to sit on the floor , and he says it’s a joke . Very poor management skills . Would definitely talk to the upper management.
Upon arriving, we waited 10 minutes and not one employee approached us. We finally got someones attention, asked to put our name down, and was told to wait. He never came back to us after waiting another 5 minutes. I got the impression that they have grown so popular that they no longer care about customer service.
Extremely pathetic service.. We were a family of 7 and an infant, went to have dinner today, and I was quickly denied as their table seating seated 6.. The manager/in charge wasnt even thoughtful of adding a table.. I do understand if the restaurant was full, but it was only half full. This was my first experience, being denied since the person incgarge didnt have a knowledge of space management and customer management..Never visiting them again..
I went to this restaurant many times but on Wednesday 8/5/15 i arrive there at 8:40pm and waited on the line to be seated.... 5 min later when no one pay attention had to go inside and tell one of the waitresses that we are few people that waiting to be seatedthere was a party of 10 ,, was already waiting to be seated .. almost ready ..party of 3 , party of 2 -came few min before me .. and me ( party of 2 ).someone came and said we are sitting people only by 9pm and we wont be able to take you.the time was 8:50pm .... but he said that he cant give me a table.i told him that its not 9pm yet and im a returning customer.few tables started to leave and there could be a table ..... but this person decided that because the time is close to 9pm..... he cant give me a table......but for the other 2 before me ... no problem..???the same person was standing in front of me ,,, and repeating over and over again that he wont give me a table..... infront of the couple before me.even they felt bad and offer to share a table together .this behavior was unappropriated to a business that respect itself.the kitchen is still open but u decided that the last customer on line .. you dont take .?!?!?!I END UP GOING TO ANOTHER GREAT INDIAN RESTAURANT !!!!!!!!!and will NEVER GO BACK TO THIS ONE.
Incredible food, cozy, delightful owners. You MUST try the dahiwali baighan (eggplant in red yogurt sauce with curry leaves — sauce made from scratch every time the dish is ordered). Dal makhani (dark, creamy, earthy tasting lentils) and navratan korma (veggies in cashew sauce) are also particularly delicious.
Meh. Got takeout. gobi munchurian, tadka dal, muttar paneer. spicy yet not seasoned well. gobi munchurian lacked the balance that it should have with acid/sweet/spice/salt. tadka dal made with chana dal which is weird cause yellow dal should always be moong dal. not bad but 35 dollar spent left me very unsatisfied and I had to go home and make tadka with garlic and fresh chilis. now it is all yummy. Guys get it together and use acid(lemon juice, lime juice) and dont be scared to use salt either. I recommend kosher salt
Last night went to this place, it was my wife birthday..............service was horrible, waiter took a order and we ask for spicy food, it was blend no salt and no spices.................first we order appetizer, the waiter was in so hurry clear the table before we finish the appetizer my wife was still having her appetizer................I dont know what was rush.........we went there at 8.30 pm.

2022-02-16Hidden gem for fusion food!!This place has been recommended to me by word of mouth from people all over Long Island. I finally had the opportunity to get dinner to go and I was blown away by the food.I placed a larger order to share and got the chicken samosas, bread basket, chicken chili garlic noodles, mango chicken, and goat Rogan Josh. Literally every plate of this order was fantastic. The chicken samosas were a great size and the sauces that came with them really complimented the taste. There was one red sauce that was sweet, that worked the best for me.The chicken chili garlic noodles were just the right amount of spicy. Fresh noodles with great taste all around. A nice compliment to the non spicy dishes we got.The goat was much better than I thought it was going to be. Ive had goat in the past and hated it. Having it the way this chef prepared it changed my view on goat meat. Tender chuncks of meat on the bone for more flavor with a wonderful thick sauce. This plate is a must try if you have never had goat. The mango chicken may have been my favorite dish of the night. The chicken was tender, the sauce was nice and thick, and the sweetness of the mango helped cool my taste buds from the noodles. I had some of this dish left over and reheated it the next day, just as good reheated. And of course I cant leave out the bread basket. All the types of bread were delicious. This is just a must to see what type you like the best and to scoop up all the delicious sauce from your dish. Dont let any of it go to waste 😋Bottom line, if you skipped reading my long review and come to the bottom for if notes. EAT HERE!! You wont be disappointed.

2022-05-29Good spot for Indian food! They have Indian, Thai/Chinese and fusion dishes. Main go-to spot in the area. Been here many times and never a disappointment. Food has been good dine-in or takeout. Street parking but it has never been an issue.

2021-09-14Very bad experience i had today with my order. It was my mom’s birthday and i order the food and you can look by the pics which i ll post too with my review. Paneer burji is looks like something you can’t even tell what kind of sabji is this. First time i see white paneer burji. I also ordered veg jalfrezi and that turns out of tomato puree sabji straight from the can. I would not go to this restaurant ever again. Thank you ruining my mom’s night. I spend over $150 worth of my order and we ll sleep tonight without food. Thank you so much for that. The chef did not make my food today. It was pure unfinished leftover or I don’t even know what they give me.

2021-12-13This restaurant have pretty good review so My family went there for lunch on sunday about 1.30. There was 4-5 tables in small cage-like size . Two tables was served already and 3 tables is empty. And waiter saw us but he did not say anything. So we sat down at empty table and waiting for menu. Another waiter came to us and say “we are pick up only” . I asked what about other table? He answered something i cannot understand. He said “ we change pick up only from now. “. My kids feel so embarassed. BETTER Change a name from CHILI & CURRY TO RUDE & UNKIND.Even one star is generous. SHAME ON YOUR BUSINESS.

2022-04-06So good! Love the hot and sour soup, veggie Manchurian with gravy, and the cauliflower manchurian. Friendly and accommodating service as well. Wide variety of vegetarian options- have tried 3 other dishes and all were amazing.

2020-09-18Really good North Indian food. Some of the best chicken curry Ive had (xacutti). Very good achari goat. The lamb thai curry was also quite good. Food ever slightly too salty but perfect if you like it with rice. Kulcha also was excellent. South Indian stuff was more hit or miss though. Good hakka noodles. The samosas were great, pakora left a lot to be desired. Of note, the menu on google has very out of date prices, and the menu on facebook is less out of date but still lower than what I was charged (each dish about a dollar more than fb, about 25 percent more than google). Would still definitely recommend.

2022-02-24Have come here at least 5x in the past couple years. Every dish will have you completely satisfied (portions, quality, spice level). Weve been to every food spot in the area and if you know about the area you know theres an abundance of this cuisine. I usually get 2 desi dishes and 1 asian everytime I come so Ive tried almost half the menu. Everything is authentic, fresh and the service is outstanding.

2022-06-11Pretty good Indian food. This is a Thai Indian restaurant, but I only tried some of the Indian food items, so can’t comment on the rest. We tried Malai Kofta, Chettinad Chicken, and Lamb Rogan Josh. The Chettinad Chicken was by far the best. Lamb Rogan Josh was good, but there are many other restaurants that make it much better. Malai Kofta was not that good in my opinion. The best part about the food, however, was the price. Most of the Indian curries were all under $20. The service was also very quick and efficient. Felt very much like a restaurant in India: order food, eat it, pay the check, and leave. Literally only an hour from start to finish. Ambiance is whatever, but you’re going there for the food and not anything else.

2019-11-11Absolutely in love with this place. I went in with a vegetarian friend, who didnt enjoy it as much as me. So for all those of you who are vegetarian, they dont have too many options. The ambiance made up for it, she says.Their lunch buffet is only on weekdays and they charge around 10 per person, which I think is a fantastic price, for the quality of food. The number of dishes were limited, but they had the best of items, at-least on the day we went in. Definitely going again. Also, on random days, I crave their mutton biriyani - absolutely amazing.
