This is my number 1 choice for chinese food in Schenectady county
Give them a try. I promise youll never order from another Chinese place around here again. the only Chinese restaurant around that I can eat the whole order and not have to stop halfway through cuz my stomach hurts or I feel full. Nothings greasy the vegetables are vibrant color not brown peas. I just got bourbon chicken a soda and egg roll and fried donuts for $12. Good price good food oh not to mention the delivery drivers awesome. She told me 45 minutes they knocked on my door in less than 20. Keep up the good work

I just called them after receiving our lunch order. Its horrible. We cant chew our food. The beef is so tough, and undercooked that its stringy. The pork fried rice, is hard. The sweet and sour chicken is fried so long, that the chicken is hard as a rock. Unbelievable.
Amazing food! One of the best Chinese restaurants in the area. Yeah, their prices are higher than usual but with what is going on right now, they dont have much say in the matter right now.
Horrible customer service! We used to order from China Star almost every week, great food. In the last few months the delivery time has gone from 20-30 min to an hour or more. The last time they forgot our soda at 9 oclock at night, apologized and said they would be right back, 10:30 rolls around, they are closed and they forgot! They gave us a coupon for a free combo for the trouble. We havent ordered in months because we were upset but we didnt like the few other places we tried so we gave it another shot. We ordered food today at 5:40, its now 7:25 and still no food. We called to complain and she said we always call at a busy time. I suppose that is often true, as DINNER TIME is when people eat dinner. I can deal with 45 min, sometimes even an hour but not longer! Very disappointing!
Me and and my two friend had the best experience ever this my first time I have eaten here. We had got dumplings doughnuts. I had ordered at a another Chinese food place and when I had bit into a chicken and it was black the rice was stale I recommend this to other people
They have good food, I like their sesame chicken the most. The food there are cheap and affordable too
I asked for the Hot and Sour soup not to be too spicy but it was. Also the Beef and Mushroom was mostly vegetables. They charged extra for noodles instead of rice and there was barely any in the meal. Never ordering there again!
Food was Luke warm, ordered a pork egg roll, got vegetable. Asked for extra sauces and got none. When I called to explain I was told I was supposed to get sauces myself. Thats why they are there. Explained I had someone else get it for me and that was why I told the man I ordered from. They said they had no one to bring it to me. Luke warm no soy sauce dinner for me tonight.
Just had their food for the first time last night and i absolutly loved it it was made quickly and tasted amazing, the employees were very nice. Plus a friend of mine has been eating there for years
From out of town. Needed a place to deliver. They said 40 minutes but were here in 20. Great! We were hungry. Food was very fresh, veggies werent overcooked and the food was hot! Will order again if ever in the area.
Quality starting to go down hill. Lower quality. Burned food. I saw,an employee wipe his nose with his hand. Did not wash afterwards, cook wearing no sleeve shirt. Armpits exposed. Nasty. I dont want armpit sweat in my food.
New Review: Well within the past few months their food has gone downhill. Some of their recipes changed and I noticed my food tasted microwaved or it was sitting there for a long time. They used to have the best chinese food in rotterdam but every time I get it now it seems to get worse and worse.Old Review:I order from here at least once a month. I do like their food but for some reason the food listed on the menu that says Spicy isnt spicy what so ever. I tried their general taos chicken and their szechuan dishes and they werent spicy at all... I also ordered crab and lobster dish and its imitation crab and imitation lobster, YUCK! As long as you dont order anything Spicy you will enjoy it!
Would of given 0 stars but not a option. My usual Chinese food spot was not open so I gave this a try. Tried 4 diff items all of which I would not feed my dog. Awful lo mein, awful egg roll, awful sweet and sour chicken, awful sesame chicken. Never had Chinese food so off, Im not Chinese but pretty sure I could of done a better job. Simply put, Awful place if you are hungry!
My favorite place to get dumplings, we’ve been ordering from here for 3 years, atleast once every two weeks. Until last week- when all of a sudden they don’t deliver here anymore. Time to find a new chinese spot. 😫

Place is grate.also if you tell them to have lil of this or alot of that. they will make sure theyll do it. grate staff the delivery is excellent I bern going to China star for 3 years since I moved to rotterdam. best chinese joint.and very clean.you should check out the cleaning they do when they are about to close.i was very impressed! and if you love Tofu and your vegeterian. their tofu is delicious. I highly recommend this lil restaurant. !!!
Im less then 5 miles away but because of the snow storm from earlier, which it isnt snowing anymore they wont deliver to me. Have had delivery where I am a few times. Good food lazy employees.

Ordered soup whic was half full. It had stale veggies with black spots. Did not come with egg noodles. Only got 3 whole wings in my order. Go to Mings on state st. You wont regret it.

My go to chinese food spot! I have eaten ALOT of chinese food from a lot of different places. And China Star by far blows the rest out of the water. Excellent food. Excellent service. Delivery is always quick. Love it!

2022-01-28Terrible … I order chicken wings from many other Chinese restaurants and never had a problem. I decided to give this restaurant a try because it was closer to my house. 1st these are jumbo wings that looks more like turkey wings, or wings on steroids 2nd I asked for extra crispy… these are not extra crispy…. I called the restaurant and asked for a refund or at least something else on the menu and they would not accommodate me so never again….

2022-04-27I really wanted to try this place. I go in and it is very cramped, old, and dingy inside. I stood at the counter waiting to place an order, and nobody came to serve me. They were busy on the phone from what I could tell handling personal business and could careless about a customer which equates to money. I will not return.

2021-10-07Their chicken fried rice is the most bland rice I’ve ever had in my life. A saltine cracker has more flavor than their food. I would only recommend this place to my white friends who lack taste buds.

2021-06-28I’ve been ordering from China Star for years, across two different owners, and they are still the best Chinese takeout in Schenectady. I’ve also worked for them on and off for a couple years and can say they are some of the most decent business owners around. Simon is a true saint. As someone who has seen behind the scenes of how they work, I can assure you they work together like a real team and take even their most negative reviews very seriously. Their General Tso tofu is the best in town.

2021-06-03China Star has become my go to Chinese place, and I eat Chinese once a week pretty much. Hot, fresh food. Very flavorful. Tastes like it is freshly made, not from frozen. Prices are reasonable.

2020-07-22Im not sure what has happened. Not sure if it was the pandemic but the food quality in this place has declined drastically. Not only are they clumsy with packaging the food (my food container was actually turned on its side instead of flat) but they are hard of hearing too (i requested no soy sauce included and of course it was included and leaked onto the food since it was packaged nicely). The food also now taste under seasoned and watered down....its gross now. Im sad and disappointed and will not go back unless I hear word of mouth that theyve returned to their better ways. Bummer.
