It is a small cinema in Manhattan, because it only have three screens. but its decoration is modern, like the feeling that Manhattan give people. and they offer reclined chair. however, the auditorium is not regular shape, such as rectangle, sector, so if you are going to order the row L to J, make sure you dont get the side seat, vision effect would be really bad. i think the perfect row should be row D. i took a picture when i am sitting in the middle of row D.
Great place to see a film at.It is a Smaller as well as;; ((I Think..));; a privately-owned theater. It also is paying great movies including the new release The Batman,Considering ALL these things, it is also a real shock that tickets can be AS LOW AS, $$10//Per-Person!!!💯💯 ... Check out this spot ... 💯💯
Loved the seats here. One of the comfiest Ive sat on. The sound system was great too as it should be when youre watching a Quentin Tarantinos movie. Im not gonna complain about popcorn prices because its pretty much the same everywhere. They could definitely have had a better restroom. Other than that very good place to watch a movie in NYC.
I have been there a few times over the past couple of years and I find it to be very well kept and sanitary. In addition, the seats and spacing between the loungers are adequately spaced for plenty of leg room and that is majorly important in feeling comfortable while watching movies. When I am in that area, I always check to see if there are any new films that I havent seen as yet and it is always a pleasure to go there and feel that non-stressed and happy feeling that the atmosphere is always a delight.
Low Key Movie Theatre with comfy reclining chairs. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Vaccination required in order to see a movie. The one thing I don’t enjoy how this theatre attracts tourists who have no manners - like please stop talking while we watch a movie and the older locals who do the same thing as well.
Completely renovated coming out of Covid. Reclining seats and concessions on 2 floors. Nice to see somebody actually SPENT the recovery money on the theater itself. I had a wonderful experience there too. Private screening and famous director arrived with cast after wards. Kenneth Branagh is a wonderful man for storytelling. His film was excellent too. BELFAST was the film. Oscar-bound for sure. But the 123 theater should get an Oscar for the comfy seats. For some reason upstairs concessions had smaller menu and had 2 schlep downstairs to get a coffee. Otherwise perfecto
Extremely helpful polite and friendly staff. The theater is beautiful clean and spacious (when someone has to walk in front of you to exit the row you dont have to scrunch or contort into a small ball -- theres enough room for everyone).the movie experience is awesome. (not too freezing and the sound quality is perfect-- its not obnoxiously booming like other theaters where you leave with your ears ringing for hours. ugh!)lastly and most importantly-- the reclining seats are so comfortable.
This is a multi screen cinema. It was clean and the staff was polite. They have the usual snacks and soft drinks plus cookies. The best part is the large reclining seats with plenty of space between rows. The only negative is the movie screen appears smaller than average hence my 4 star rating rather than 5.
Awesome Reclining Seats....the theater is clean...and serve Coffee....and Matinee Price is $10..... Beautiful Movie Theater. I hope to beReturning real Soon ...I ama Real Movie Fan ...I just love going to the Movie Theater ...I saw in the Heights....a very nice Musical
While the ticket comes in at whopping 18+ dollars, this upscale cinema, is I think, well worth it. You will be amazed at the width of your leather seat and how crazily far back it reclines. There are four theaters, all rather intimate but with a large amount of space between rows. The theater goes tend to be older and quiet during the screening, which I think is nice, and the selection is usually pretty good. Extraordinarily clean and well-maintained.
Newly renovated with big, comfy reclining seats but dizzying carpeting. Reserved seats policy and pricing may bother some folks -- unless you get the ideal, on-the-aisle seat you want just minutes before showtime. Some seats on the right mezzanine 1st row facing screen in largest theater have slightly restricted screen view because of entryway blockage. Staff now trained to handle complaints deftly. All in all , much improved, especially the seating.
Be sure to read the accessibility information really closely before you go if you (or the person you are going with) have mobility issues. the access to theaters are all by stairs that are steep. the downstairs cinemas bathroom is down a steep set of stairs and the upstairs bathroom is accessible, but tricky as the ONE escalator only goes in ONE direction at a time. There is no elevator. The theaters have been recently renovated and have great seats and other amenities, but it would have been decent to spend some of that budget to make sure that all movie goers could enjoy the experience without risk or anxiety. At the very least they should make the access information more prominent on the website or at the theater.
This theater is clean and comfortable--one of the best places in the city to enjoy a film! The ticket price might be a bit higher, but the experience is great. The theaters are small with reclining seats, the concession stand has many options (including an espresso bar), and the staff is friendly. They also seem to accept movie pass--I dont have one but saw the sign!
Have attended this theater many times and thought it was shabby, dirty and unattractive.Never thought it was customer friendly. When it was renovated my experience was more negative. We had to choose our seats before entering the theater. I really disliked that since I like going into the theater and choosing my seat based on whos sitting where(tall people, etc).I dislike the new chairs although theyre wonderfully cozy and comfortable. I dont go to a movie to take a nap! When I went patrons were having difficulty locating their seats and management got involved while some people leaned against the wall. Patrons were complaining and I really wished I could leave but my friend wanted to stick it out. If anyone gives a damn, my friend and I are not going back.A movie should be a casual experience. Its not ABT or opera. I just want to go in,find a seat, sit up and watch the show.
This theater is nothing special. A relic from older days, there are only three screens and stadium seating is unheard of. Screens are TINY, and the projectors have issues. On the bright side, fewer people means shorter lines at concessions and restrooms. Service is pleasant. Not a bad choice if you time it right.
I like this theater . comfy seats- small no chemical smell like some others. the people are nice. was a little surprised when the woman asked me if i want senior tix as im ten years younger then that age but next time i will just say yes. also the escalator has been broken for years and so if you do have any disability this is not the theater for you. i dont know why they dont fix it but they have many excuses
This Theatre is clean and the customer service is great. They show alot of indie films. Thier matinee prices are very cheap and they also belong to movie pass. The best part about this Theatre are the seats, they are recliners and you can reserve your seat so need to show up early on a Friday or Saturday night. Great location right near the subway as well!
Theyve taken all the fun out of a casual night out at the movies.Prices jumped up--fourteen dollars for a senior ticket-- and seats have to be chosen at the time the tickets are purchased. This means a line waiting to get into the theater while people discuss where to sit. Wrong seats? Run down two flights to change them. Then arrive in the dark and the usher points in the general direction of our seats--try to find them? Theyre somewhere up there, or down there!Trip over someone whos turned her seat into a recliner to find them. Finally, settle in. Sat in the wrong seats for the whole movie--last row--although got to the theater 15 minutes ahead of time.Did like the movie and the carpeting; thats why two stars. And oh, yes, the bathroom was clean. Thank you for that.(The usher said everyone was unhappy) Not in a hurry to go back and sad the neighborhood go-to movie has turned into a no-go-to.
A great place and atmosphere. Especially when Gabriel is working. He will help you to your seat when possible. He is very courteous, something you rarely find in the city. The thing I dont like is they rarely show children movies. And if you stare at the carpet you may fall. They have discounts for seniors and special show times.
We were shocked and disappointed... and greatly impacted by the false info regarding theater that they were handicapped access!!! They are NOT! Not only slowly painfully climbing stairs while 70 yr old sister CARRIED the walker!! No elevator. Broken escalator which would of course NOT accommodate anyone with a wheel chair. My advice: FIND ANOTHER THEATER!👎
Helpful staff, great food selection (they even have macaroons here) and the theater has nice reclining seats. The price is understandable for NYC and it is in a great location in the Upper East Side, right by the Lexington Ave - 59th Street Subway station. It is also near the Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge and the Roosevelt Isand Tram. The only drawback is they usually only play three movies at a time. You’ll be lucky for them to be playing a movie you really want to see but when you do, it’s a great experience all around. Also, there’s not a lot of people because of the reason I just stated so it’s less cramped and I have space to breathe. The patrons that come here seem cool too. They aren’t on their phones or talk loud during the movie. I saw two movies here and I hope to see more in the near future.
Amazing theater! They did a full renovation and now you have those amazing bed lounges that I can stretch my whole body and relax. I started going to every movie possible... dont really care if its that good or not, I go for bed lounges lol Very quiet as well and not super crowded.
This is the best movie theater that I have visited. Leather seats, recline, leg rest, space between you and your neighbor, reserved seating, limited previews. What more can you ask for?Popcorn? Decent. Healthy snacks? Edamame. And there is a coffee stand in the lobby.Too bad they only have 3 movies playing at a time. But if they are playing a movie you want to watch, go here.
So many reviews here dont like these theaters because theyre old. Why not tear them down and build another monstrosity where hundreds are jammed in like lemmings, the stereo sound is ear splitting and the service is awful. This area used to be, next to Broadway, the hub of first run movies in the city. Not the newest, true, but comfortable, screens large in proportion to the theater itself and far from frenetic. You want IMAX hit the Kips Bay. These are neighborhood theaters that keep first run films in the neighborhood. Ill certainly be back.
Seats are comfortable but there are still problems.1. Theaters are very small as is screen, so dont expect a big screen experience.2. People will sit in your reserved seats because no on can see the letters of the row! Its printed on the floor of the aisle and is tiny with low contrast (unlike the number of the seat which is ok on the side of the aisle seat).3. Prepare the hear the booms, noise and extreme vibrations of the movie in the next theater. Ugh.4. The incline of the rows is not steep enough by a few degrees. A slightly bigger than averaged sized persons head will block your view.5. The price of a ticket would be ok IF these problems were addressed.
I went here to see the film Boyhood on a weeknight, so it wasnt particularly crowded. A fine theater, but nothing special. Felt a little old and warn down, popcorn wasnt too good (though they did let you put on your own butter which is a plus). I also sat in the top section, and the lights for the staircase down were pretty bright and stayed on the whole time (a little distracting).
This theater only shows three movies at a time as thats all the screens they have! But kudos to their curation, the movies are often excellent.Fairly new and clean, large leather recliners make the experience very comfortable. Seats are reserved so theres no need to stand in line in advance. Each row of recliners are also spaced very generously apart, so when fully reclined, other patrons can still get to their seats without having you to get up and do the uncomfortable shuffle dance. However as a result, it is recommended to sit much further closer to the screen as you would normally do.Halls 1 and 3 are upstairs. Ive never been to Hall 1, which is their biggest, and often screens the biggest hits.Hall 3 unfortunately shares a wall with Hall 1. Three times I was there to watch fairly slow and dramatic movies (Mr Holmes, Room and Brooklyn) and each time Hall 1 next door was showing an action packed flick with ample explosions and earth shattering sound effects (Mission Impossible and Deadpool). How did I know? Yup, you guess it, the walls shook and rumbled. We could basically hear and feel those explosions next door. Not great if Im watching something dramatic.Do also note that Hall 3 has a single aisle that comes down the left side (as you face the screen). The seating plan on the booking site doesnt indicate this and may appear to suggest there will be an aisle on both sides. So if youre picky about sitting facing the middle of the screen, you may want to select seats slightly closer to the left.Another downside to Hall 3 (and possibly Hall 1 too): the ventilation upstairs (where its located) is terrible. The whole Hall is filled with the grease from the popcorn sold at the concession stand outside. You come out of your movie smelling like popcorn oil. Some people dont mind it but I think its rather gross. The air conditioning also comes on and off intermittently. When it comes on, its very drafty and chilling. When it goes off, it can get quite stuffy, and if youre watching something exciting that gets your sweat glands worked up a little, good luck.Hall 2 in the basement is much better. No booming noises from next door, and no greasy oils wafting in. Seating wise, the aisle runs on the right, and there is also a horizontal aisle nearer the back of the Hall. So its really not advisable to sit all the way at the back as the screen will be too small.Regular ticket prices are higher than AMC but here you get a seat reservation and comfortable recliners. Better still, if you buy tickets to movies that are screened before noon, and in the late evenings of Sundays to Thursdays, theyre half priced.Overall, my favourite theater for movies. If they can work on the soundproofing and ventilation, I give them the final star!
My fiance and I decided to go see 12 Years a Slave last Friday, which by the way was a remarkable movie. Considering this is a local/more independent theatre (I think), I was expecting a cheaper ticket price but it was still $14.00 like every other movie theatre. No worries though cause thats what I expected.Walking towards the specific theatre was kind of weird. There was a low ceiling at one point (maybe 7 or 8 feet) that had mirrors on top so it looked like it was much taller but I imagine if you were a really tall person, you could hit your head on the ceiling. The floor also sloped down like a small hill. This theatre definitely hasnt been renovated in years. We walked into the theatre and immediately noticed how small it was, but that was OK with us. As we went to sit down, I noticed some white stains on the seat, which did not sit well with me so we chose other seats. The seats are small and cramped and thats a 52 tall female saying that.During the movie, which again was amazing and so emotional, I kept hearing the movie theatres phone ringing somewhere off in the distance. The movie would be in the middle of a scene out in the woods and all of a sudden I would hear a faint ringing. This happened at least six times throughout the movie. On the way out of the theatre and going through the weird, short mirrored ceiling hallway, the first thing I saw was a mouse! It darted across the room so I got to see it run for about 10-12 feet. SO DISGUSTING!!! Im sure a lot of establishments have mice too that Im unaware of because I dont see them but when I do see them, GROSS! GET A MOUSE TRAP! HIRE AN EXTERMINATOR! YOU ARE A BUSINESS!So, a movie theatre is a movie theatre, and for a movie theatre, it did a good job of pressing play on a large screen, but for $14 a ticket, Id rather go to an AMC or Regal that has more comfortable seats without questionable stains, cleaner amenities and phones ringing during quiet, serene settings of a movie.
My husband and I purchased tickets ahead of time to see a movie. I am in a wheelchair and cannot walk up or down stairs. We arrived and the theatre didnt have an elevator and said they were not handicap accessible. We spoke to the manager of the theatre- he wasnt apologetic at all and said hes not sure why they arent accessible. We had to leave since it was impossible for me to get into theatre. Such an upsetting experience....
Nice and quaint theater. I have been here a few times, and its a good place to come watch a movie, while avoiding the crowds. It could use better signage so you can go where you need to go without asking too much, but hey, its only 3 screens. It wont take you long to walk from one to the other. Friendly and helpful staff
Terrific selection of films often indie films available. One criticism the escalator has been inoperative for ages and in my opinion as theres often an elderly crowd in the afternoon it might behoove management to put a less eye dazzling pattern of carpet on the stairs.
I became aware of the Cinemas in 1969- 70.The Classic film Midnight Cowboy with Dustin Hoffman and Jon Voigt opened there. Myself, along with Sylvester Stallone worked next door at 999 Third Avenue, Bookmasters, and seized on the chance to see the pic as often as possible I wasnt aware that he was writing the Rocky films at the time, but he was. Upon leaving NYC in June of 1970,Sly was now working for the Cinemas, and asked if I would be interested in filling an opening there to assist him, I was recovering from a surgery and told him no, that as a then 17 year old, obviously didnt make very sound business decisions, having seconded guessed that one over the last 50 years. Many more stories to tell about the excitement generated by the theaters and what we did in our store next door!! Mary Travers of Peter, Paul and Mary lived around the corner and frequented the Cinemas and shopped for music with us, as did Burt Bacharach and wife, Angie Dickinson along with author, Norman Mailer. Lots of excitement in the neighborhood with the Cinemas as the centerpiece.
Went here to see The Hangover Part 3 back in June. The projector never started and we had to sit and wait in the dark 30 minutes past the start time for them to tell us the projector was broken and there would be no show. They refunded my money and gave me a free movie ticket but its such a small theater with only 2 screens that they barely play anything good that I wouldnt want to see in a huge more updated thearter
Not only did this cost the two of us $11 more than walking across the Park to Lincoln Plaza, but the newly jazzed up screening room (OK: nice big plush seats with push-button foot rests, and fine digital screen) was ruined by the red glow of the Exit sign splashing across the screen. For a movie like Mr. Turner that was a disaster! Afterward, when we informed one of the staff that wed lost a pair of gloves, he didnt move a muscle out of his comfy chair to help us find it, in fact couldnt even get his eyes off his smart-phone. Total extra cost (lost gloves included) for going to Cinema 1,2,3: $35.00! — all the pre-film advertisements you can stomach included in the price — No thanks, ever again!
This is The worst movie theater experience I have ever had. The ticket machine charged my card 4 times, and the manager refused to give a refund because that same machine didnt give the printed paper that said that...Instead of enjoying the movie I had to go through the whole process of arguing and trying to get my money back. The place in general was dirty, unkept and old. Dont even consider going there.
OMGI cant believe I did not know about this place already. It is amazinggggggggggggggggggggggggg! You heard it! Amazingggggg. Theres nothing worst than coming to see a movie, and buying a few snacks to enjoy during the movie and afterwards you get so much pain on your back due to uncomfortable chairs. Well with this place, you will definitely say no to back pain, leg pain and so on because those recliners are oh so comfy. I said it! Comfyyyy!
This is the future of movie going:: should displace multiplex confusion, crowded viewing and ancient seating Fantastic comfortable viewing, enables private pleasure of a film .Increased pricing is worth the comfort of wide spacing, reclining leather seats : like flying 1sf class!
My favorite movie theater in NYC, thanks to the awesome reclining seats (if the movie is boring, you can take a nap!). Mostly quirky indie films and Oscar hopefuls. Pro tip: Dylans Candy Bar is right across the street, so head there before your movie and BYO candy. :)
Online, google showed that this location was playing Fantastic Beasts 2 at multiple times. When I went to the theater, it turns out they werent playing it. I went back home and called the theater to ask them about it, and the guy hung up on me immediately after answering my question!
I have gone to cinema 123 for years. The popcorn is great. The staff is friendly. So many theaters in this area have been closed. This theater shows current movies and is comfortable enough. If you are more interested in lounge chairs than the movie being shown go someplace else.

2021-10-22Wonderful experience! Very cool, clean theater with comfortable reclining seats and lots of charm. So much fun to go to these smaller NYC theaters.

2022-07-02I really like this theatre with its reclining seats and polite and helpful staff. Their movie selections are typically very good. During my last visit, however, there was some construction underway and the concession area was closed. I hope that the construction involves the installation of an escalator or an elevator so as to make this otherwise fine theatre accessible.

2022-04-14I have worked near this theater for years and never stopped by. I didnt expect it to be a small theater. Its a bit pricey for showings you can see at any other theater. The screen is smaller but its kind of cozy. The seats are reclining and have a bit of wear. Would visit again but maybe at a matinee

2022-07-08I rarely go through the trouble of negatively reviewing a place, but here I am. Went here last week to watch Elvis… the restrooms were out of order and they didn’t have any popcorn. Two major basics at any cinema. But hey, they still charged full price tickets without announcing any of these issues on the website.

2022-07-10I used to come here all the time but never again. Took my mom to see Elvis yesterday. Or at least I tried to. The A/C was broken, all of the bathrooms were out of order (is that even legal?), AND the concession stands were closed. On top of all that, my seat was broken and wouldnt recline. Not to mention the fact that their escalator has been out of service since before the pandemic. I really dont know how this place stays open. Now, Im wondering if it even should.

2022-09-13One of the few in Manhattan that are not showing the kids type fare of super heros and or some horror nonsense, comfortable and no noisy people. This is an upper eastside movie venue and across from Bloomindales for shopping after. I saw Mrs. Harris goes to Paris a delightful movie and very well kept place.

2022-06-29Not a huge fan. Snack options are decent. Screen size isnt great and I think tickets are very over priced. Mine was $20 for top gun Maverick on a regular Wednesday. Some seats are scratched up.
