Food was pretty good but nothing too special. Tuna tartare had just tuna with some greens as a garnish and a fish pate. I would usually expect avocado or mango, tuna was fresh but felt like it was missing something.Sea bass with rice pilaf actually comes with just rice (probably a bit of butter), the fish itself tasted good. Grilled Branzino was delicious but fins weren’t removed.Meringue cake is delicious!Overall great vibe, but food could be better for a place like this.
UPDATED 11-1-2021 ONCE AGAIN ONE OF THE BEST MEALS EVER.LOVE THE CAKE AND LOVE THE PASTA. WOW One of the best Italian meals we have ever had. Everything was great. She had the Gnocchi homemade and I had the pasta with veal ragu red sauce. Both were among the best ever. Broccoli soup was wonderful. Menu changes daily. For dessert we had the coconut cake with homemade ice cream. We also had the crepe flamed tableside. OMG both desserts were awesome. One of the best set of desserts ever. Check out all of our reviews. If we do not like it we do no review it so all of the ones you see are places that are fantastic. Follow us if you like. Very good service here . Let me start by saying that the servers here are very authentic and know their stuff . We had an awesomeServer (Danny) who helped guide us through the menu which was mainly in Italian . The portions here are excellent the food tasted pretty well. It can get busy so make sure you reserve a table. I got the veal ragu. 8/10,
It’s certainly a scene and you pay for it. The wall art is captivating and chic, and it’s a classic upscale SoHo vibe. The food and drinks are good, not great. Prices are marked up 2-2.5x for the ambiance and atmosphere.Went on a Tuesday and saw 70 year old sugar daddy’s out with their 20 year old model “girlfriends”. A lot of eye candy — cant forget youre out in SoHo — but therein lies the restaurants value. So I can’t recommend the restaurant at its prices, but for the crowd frequenting here, it seems overspending is the goal, not a problem. And if you are being treated the food is quite yummy.
Good atmosphere and great service but . Appetizers are not good at all and we tried quite a bit. Everything seems like it had cakes of dressing on it, And if it wasnt too much dressing it was just plain with no taste.Dinner was decent which is why Im giving this three stars
We were party of eight people. Had a reservation for 830pm. We reached there on time. Found that the table was ready on the time of our reservation. Had to wait 30 mins to get seated. The serving staff was excellent. The manager and the security guard was not courteous. I would recommend and think many time before going to this location
The best Italian food we’ve eaten all year, and we are Italian chefs ourselves!Wow! Our close buddy Josh, recommended this spot to us as my pre-marathon meal the might before running NYC. What a PHENOMENAL choice! We got the veal Milanese which was heaven, the pasta bolognese which was heaven, the branzino spaghetti which was amazing, this other amazing dish I can’t pronounce haha, amd the bread basket was also amazing! The quality and taste of the food was better than I was anticipating. Truly delicious and better food than many places in actual Italy even.A bit crowded and jammed inside, more crowded than your typical NYC crowded restaurant, possibly the most crowded NYC restaurant ever lol, but worth it for the food! Will absolutely be coming back! YUM!If you liked this review, follow my fiancé and I on our Instagram travel account @andiamoadventure
Was there for a weekday cocktail and dinner - maybe my expectations were too high but Im really not sure why this place is so hyped & popular, service was decent but nothing over the top, the food wasnt bad but if youre after upscale food there are much better choices at these prices.
Extra star, due to the extremely beautiful, and trendy crowd. It was New York Fashion Week, and on 09/11, this is where everyone that was that beautiful was. Service was swift, efficient, and detailed by our female server that seemed truly passionate and happy to be at work! What a change from 80% of restaurants where everyone, as professional as they may be, would rather be elsewhere. Pictured above, Pecan Pie, Pumpkin and Sage Ravioli, pasta, and gazpacho. Food itself good, but not great. My orange or tangerine juice tasted like motor oil. Ive had this happen before. Its the components not working properly, contaminating the product. My fellow Chip dining regular couldnt taste it. $$$ - $$$$ Expensive.
Truly an unimpressive experience. Had a reservation for 8PM and wasnt seated until 8:50PM, with the host stopping by our party every 5 minutes to tell us just 2 more minutes, just 2 more minutes for nearly an hour. All would be forgiven if the meal was enjoyable. As you can tell from the rating, it was not. I wont exaggerate and say the food was terrible, it wasnt, I ate it, but for the prices they charge it was akin to being mugged. The veal ravioli main I ordered could be consumed by a two year old, and the tuna tartare is basically chopped up sushi tuna with no toppings.Stay away.
Classic meal choices, and only the best ingredients used! Every time I go to Cipriani, I have never received food I did not like. The menu is constantly changing but always has staple dishes on it. I get The carpaccio almost every time I go and it blows away other restaurants I order it from. The downtown location is nice because parking is never too much of a hassle, and they open all the front doors so even if you are not outside sitting (which is a big preference) you will have that indoor space opened right up to the outdoors! The bright yellow awning offers much needed shade and such a touch of elegance. The staff is phenomenal, so personal, and so kind, only putting out the highest quality of service. I wish I remembered the name of our server from this afternoon, she was great! So attentive, quick, and kind! If you have never been here before I would recommend the Risotto (give it about 20 minutes, try The carpaccio, honestly just try it all). All time favorite spot for summer lunching with friends, 5/5 in my book and I don’t hand those out. If you’re reading this review thinking should I go, less thinking more doing, the answer is yes!
Best Cipriani out of all the Cipriani in New York. Definitely recommend to make a reservation, and if weather permits ask to be seated outside. The staff is great and friendly, they tend to all your needs and request. You can’t go to Cipriani without ordering the world famous Bellini, they by far have the best Bellini in the world. Everything on the menu is delicious, ask for the specials of the day also. Cipriani is consistent and definitely a must if your looking for Italian food either for lunch or dinner. Can’t come to New York without stopping in at this Cipriani.
With a plethora of tables outside the host refused to seat us at a requested table. Willing to wait until we can be accommodated the host made it clear that any tables outside would not be available to us.We were polite and accommodating despite our confirmed reservationZThe host should have been the same
What I love about great restaurants is their ability to exceed expectations. Im not sure how they do it, clearly magic, but some really do. My metrics for a review are simple, food, service, and the vide of the venue. The Spinach & Ricotta Ravioli was possible better than my Italian grandmothers version. The service was friendly, attentive, knowledgable and seemed to genuinely enjoy our table. The Vibe was great! Fellow dinners were pleasant and even charming.
It is a fashionable place for people who know the place and love it. Always full, but don’t hesitate to ask a seat. Delicious food, exceptional staff and warm atmosphere. Great place to share a lunch or dinner, even late breakfast. Take your time and enjoy. Starters 20-30$, main courses 30-50, tea and coffee 5-6$, cocktails 16-20$. The filet mignon was in old style with gravy, but tender!
Cipranis is a perfect place to hang out with friends, drink a few cappuccinos or bellinis, and have a bite. we loved the meringue! it was the star of the show. the ravioli was so-so, but the simple pomodoro was good. all-in-all, cips is a good spot with friendly staff, but not necessarily the best italian food youll have in nyc, especially for the price range.
Came here for my boys birthday. $1800 bill for extremely mediocre food. Sat 40 minutes after res time and their Veal Limone (recommended by waiter) resembled four sausage patties you buy at McDonalds in a lemon sauce. Another place in the city people just want to say they went to because of the name. If you’re looking for “fine dining” Italian worth the price go elsewhere
Over rated Italian food with no garlic flavors, over priced pasta dishes and make sure to check your bill.. I ordered two simple bottles of champagne with a party of eight and they tried to charge me for two bottle of Krug at $760 a bottle. I caught the error and it was corrected on the spot this place should never do errors like this. The food was below average my party of eight will never return. NYC has much better Italian food restaurants just do your research.
Had the Bolognese last weekend, & it was nothing short of phenomenal. Perfectly cooked noodles, & a burst of hearty flavor with every bite. Wish I had a way to save the leftovers, because its a huge portion. Ask for tap water instead of still. Still or sparkling water is $12 for a 1 Liter bottle. Tap water is free & tastes fine.
My friends and I were so confused why this place has such good ratings... haven’t been here in over a year and once we came back the food tasted worse than the ones in the freezer sections at Trader Joe’s. Spend $5 at Trader Joe’s and trust me it tastes better than all of the pasta at this place- remember to cook yours all the way because they left ours basically raw here. Such better options in the city than this
Definitely pricy, but worth it even if just for the bellinis. If the feeling of the sun on your skin on the first nice day of spring had a flavor, it would be the bellinis here. I accidentally had 5, oops! The service and food was also excellent. The ambiance, art, and scene overall was immaculate and fun. And Jay-Z was sitting at the table behind us!
Food was okay. Over priced. Ive cooked better but it was good to have a different taste to my palate. We ordered sliced veal that shouldve been a 42$ dish but we instead got a veal chop in the bone which was 62$. We were unintentionally charged an extra 20$. My son did not eat his veal and so today it was tossed into the garbage. I wished Id had known about the mistake before I paid for the dinner. He didnt want to tell me then in order to avoid embarrassment
I did not eat at this establishment, but my friends were very sick next to the restaurant and a man was so kind to give me a bag for my friend. I don’t remember his name or if he was a manager or supervisor, but he was so kind and helpful and I was so thankful for him.
I wish I could give zero stars. The crew is not trustworthy. I ordered one Grilled Mediterranean Branzino and was overcharged 4 times more. I called the day after inquiring about the price and they told me it is $40 for regular or $100 for Branzino Al Forno with Cherry Tomatoes. I was charged $200 which does not even exist on the menu. It is offensive and disrespectful. I asked the manager to call me back but still waiting.
Great place to go for dinner. Cozy environment, great pasta and service. I highly recommend the bolognese and the Bellini was also pretty good. I had the cucumber salad as an appetizer and it was delicious as well. The only thing I’d critique is the presentation of the food, which could have been done better. A great experience overall.
Beautiful high end dining location! The service here is off the charts incredible, they take amazing care of their guests! The food was a little hit or miss, apps were really good and some of the entrees were a hit, but I had a duck special that just wasnt interesting. Desserts were also great! Would recommend a visit!
Always a great time at Cipriani, always lively. Great service. Sometimes the crowd can be a bit stuffy, but sometimes youll pump into celebrity. Food is consistently great, especially their pasta dishes. And when in Cipriani you must try their signature drink Bellini. Cipriani is pricey, but I think that the experience is worth it.
The overall service was average. The restaurant is pretty but is just a place to go because “important” people think it’s good. There’s MUCH better Italian food at a similar price point. Portions are not worth it. Go somewhere else. The food wasn’t hot and lacked flavor. The waitress was very nice.
Hosted a birthday supper for 6 very special friends last Saturday...as usual Cipriani was jammed, 9:30 reservation. Did not get seated until 10, but worth the wait...one must have patience at this restaurant. I assure you that is a virtue which will serve you well here. Management and staff extremely and sincerely gracious about the delay. Seated at my favorite corner table to the rear of the restaurant. Food is always superb, exceptional wine list and the staff is so dedicated and provides exemplary service...have a reservation for 2 on December 23rd at 8 PM - looking forward to another fine evening. If you have not ventured into this special restaurant, do so...you will have no regrets!!!
Have been dining here for the last few months during quarantine. The food was incredible and my wife and I continued to come back, at least once a week. Unfortunately today, our experience was quite disappointing. We went to attempt to sit outside but seating was full, as expected. We asked to order take out, we were basically dismissed. We stood there very uncomfortably for a 10 minutes and were never approached again. With menu in hand ready to order, dismissed. With that said, this establishment will no longer have our business or that of our friends and business associates.
I am a native New Yorker and will keep to the directness of how we are known to be :)Drinks: Excellent. You must have the famous Bellini!Food: Excellent! But, not a place I would recommend as the best Italian.Space: Small intimate bar and seating outside in the warm weather months.Scene:Good for get-togethers and date night. Usually very crowded. Get reservations in advance for dining. The bar and the outside dining tables are the places to be scene. Pick-up scene.Crowd: 20-50s People watching & beautiful people.Service: Excellent!
From Venice to New York to all around the world, Cipriani restaurants know whats going on. The fresh buffalo mozzarella, the liver, the pasta, and so much more. Cipriani downtown is a place to eat delicious home-style food, and to see and be seen. Its a New York classic and a place I love coming back to. Oh, and the merengue cake.. Itll simply blow you away!
On that note we do not mind putting on 8 layers to eat a good meal and have a good experience from restaurant professionals. That being said we showed up to this place expecting amazing food and a great experience. It was far from that. The two stars were for the food. It was delicious but everything else was a zero star rating. Starting from the check in. We booked a table for 4 ppl at 5pm. We picked 5pm as we know it would be less crowded and most likely get a good table and nowadays “good” tables are the ones with the most heat. We arrived and there were about 11 open tables. We asked if it was possible to be seated near the restaurant as it was super cold and those seats had wind barriers so it would be a comfortable meal. The host, which was not to friendly. He informed us that we could have not have those tables because he had a party of 8 coming, so we said ok can we take the table next to it which is also a table of 4 and he said it was reserved . We found that strange as we we made the reservation we asked if we could sit and a seat that had some wind protection near the restaurant and he said they do not take table preferences. Ok so moving forward we took the coldest table they had which had two heat sources in which the gas was running low...with plenty of other open tables around. My friend who is hispanic asked the waiter if he could turn up the heat . He said the gas is running out and also its cold “what do you want me to do about it”. Now I emphasize the race just because it seemed a bit racial especially when a blonde middle aged woman (party of 1) happened to pop in, was going to be seated at a table near ours but requested to be seated somewhere else because she did not like the seat. They quickly escorted her to one of the 4top tables that was “reserved” for a party of 8 . We watched her eat her meal at a 4 top table in a table we requested and were denied due to “a party of 8. Then we watched her ask the staff to add an extra heating source cause she was cold. 4 waiters including the manager which I think was named Melvin proceeded to basically break their backs to get her a heating source and run an extension cord to make sure it was close enough that she wasnt cold. Meanwhile the waiter is telling my friend that “it is cold , what do u want me to do about it” . We even asked him can we just turn one of the many heat sources that were around at empty tables to our table and he said he could not do it. So we sat there eating in the cold. Not to mention the first 15 min we were seated we had to ask for a waiter to take our cocktail order and then flag him down again to place another one. Also off to the left of the main entrance they had a service door in which staff was going in and out, but the service staff. It looked more like a hang out for staff and I am bringing it up because with the door wide open the door made an annoying beeping sound the whole time. My friend asked if he could close the door so the annoying beep could stop. Not to mention everyone in that area that was on break and shuffling inside and out ...was not wearing a mask. The manager came up to us without wearing a mask(Melvin)We asked why we could not be seated in a warmer section especially since the restaurant was not fully booked. Clearly they had open tables. He said sorry it was a new host and its the holidays. Really not sure “what the holidays” ad anything to do about it. We just asked why did he lie about having an 8 top. If the 8 top canceled we would have gladly shifted over to a warmer seating area. We watched two groups of people just walk up and choose their table. We heard them actually ask ppl just the table all good but for us they did not offer this. The staff was latino but were talking to us as if we should just be happy that we are there and do not ask for anything. It was a bit racial. To watch ppl who are not ethnic get to choose their seat and for you to be told to get what you get was a bit off in this point of time in the world.
Total and utter spring/summer indulgence! Love sitting at the tables outside watching the humanity go by while feasting on Cipriani delights and champagne. Its a wonderful location, great service, and low-key atmosphere. Perfect spot to plop after a shopping trip at the nearby boutiques. Food is high quality; I often mix up fish, octopus, some pasta and other dishes.. whatever the mood and cravings dictates. Highly recommend it and always on my replay!
The restaurant was one of the most beautiful I have ever seen. I believe it also turns into a venue for events. We were greeted very quickly and politely. It was me and girlfriend on vacation at the time. The service was very much on point. Our drinks were always topped up, which was surprising since the place was full (it was a Saturday evening). The lady and I both had steak and potatoes. Hers was well done and mine was medium rare. It was definitely a bit costly when it came down to money but it was all worth it. It has actually become a must go-to stop for us every time we go to NY. The food was on point. They even brought out some amazing dessert including chocolate strawberries, sorbet and a VERY RICH chocolate cake. It was to die for! One of the best things that stood out was the old era woodwork. The place almost looked like a sort of cathedral. Definitely helped create a romantic mood. Had a very memorable night because of Cipriani
A place to see celebrities and spend a fortune on exceptional food. The desserts here are second to none. Go to the bar, or order at a table, but you MUST get the bellinis, they are spectacular. The artwork on the walls includes pieces by Peter Beard. Be ready to drop a small fortune and enjoy doing it.
Closest thing to actually being in Italy. Food was spectacular and service was great! Drinks were delicious as well. Totally worth it for what you get. My new favorite restaurant. I will definitely recommend this place to everyone I know. Dont be shy to ask the waiters for suggestions and for help, super knowledgable and friendly. I cant wait to go back!!!
I had dinner with my 18 years old. Ridiculously-overpriced for plain mediocre food. $12 for regular water. $17 for a piece of plain vanilla cake. Plain-looking plates and cheap thick wine glasses. No sense of sophistication what so ever. I feel ripped off. I was fooled by these 5 star-reviews. Very upset, Never going back.
Great local Italian food. Pricey for sure but it is always delicious. Ive read a few not so good reviews and can only wonder why they would not send the meal back. The place is filled with regulars and their children. I loved it. We celebrated receiving our Italian citizenship with lunch at Cipriani Downtown. 4 of us and it was fantastico!
Massimo, Milton and team make this the premier start point for a day in Soho. The Aperol spritz , bellini and espresso martinis are like no other in New York City. The salads and pasta keep you coming back for more. And of course the electric atmosphere and people watching.
Let me know tell you this place it’s just amazing !!!Yes it’s pricey specially if your beer been you are going to be surprise, however the service it’s absolutely amazing, everyone is super welcoming, food it’s exceptional and people watching it’s just the best!Come and visit Cipriani downtown 🙂
The food was good but terrible restaurant the service was slow. I wad there with my family. My family members sat down and then the hostess told me I could not join.I was told I would have to wait an hour with my family right in front. I do not recommend much better places in nyc.
I can not understand one thing ... comparing to the rest of the world in this city is quite a good salary. Why are Americans so stingy? you want everything for 3,50 cents?world famous name Cipriani is it something new for you? then go to china town. eat there...my experience. I think the menu in dubai is much better and ANY cocktail can be made there. In this the Italians are talented. but still I liked it. Many thanks to Rebbeca. she is undoubtedly a star. very sweet and attentive.the only thing I didn’t like were promo club tables ... vulgarly dressed girls ... and noise like at the fish market.
I love this place. However the last time I went here for lunch I ordered the tuna tartare and then had food poisoning the next few days. My friend who was with me, also got sick from the tuna. It’s very disappointing that such a pricey, high end restaurant clearly does not adhere to strict cleanliness standards. Beware!
The food their is very average but staff is very well trained and respectful of any allergies or special request you may have. The food may be average but the atmosphere is very uplifting. The food is very pricey and not worth how much you pay for it. For example the tuna tartar looks like canned cat food and the burger is a notch up from Burger King. If you are looking for a nice place to go for lunch out in the city that has good food DONT come here.
Excellent service but the food was simply flavorless and overpriced, even for Soho. We got the steak tartare, tomato mozzarella, and the meatloaf. We wanted it to be good so badly because the service and atmosphere were terrific but the food was disappointing to say the least.
Food was terrific, the service was ok - but the pricing was too high. $27 for a tomato & onion salad and $19 for a bowl of lental soup was too much when accompanying a meal with $45 main courses. Futher $22 for a short pour Grey Goose with 2 olives on the rocks and $20 for a small house wine seemed excessive.
I am big fan of Cipriani Monte Carlo and left cipriani Downtown a bit disappointed. There was no music playing the night I had dinner which was strange I thought. All you could hear was the chatter of people talking and silverware hitting plates. The staff was friendly and the food was good. It was very hard to understand my waiter due to his accent, but overall I enjoyed my experience. I am going to come back and give it another try because of how good the classic cipriani vanilla meringue cake was!

2021-12-28Place has a good reputation and good food, staff is attentive and very nice, however the spot downtown is a bit small and crowded, felt like the staff was rushing into taking the plates, replace the maps on the table and get the check really quickly, we noticed it happening in other tables next to us.Not the best experience for the price you pay.Thank you guys at Cipriani Downtown 🤙🏼

2021-12-19Always a local go to spot with friends, or clients. It’s definitely a sceney spot for New York City, however, I truly enjoy the food every time! My absolute favorite is the meringue cake but was recently told to try the vanilla gelato and oh my gosh it’s out of this world!

2022-06-04Had a reservation for 10:30pm. Waited over an hour at the crowded bar consistently told the kitchen would remain open. Once seated at 11:45pm we were rushed to order drinks, appetizers, dinner, and dessert all at once. Food wasn’t great & presentation was eh. Pricing was fair, but the quality did not match. Would not recommend. There are much better Italian places in the city that offer quality food and service to match.

2021-09-02This is obviously a NY staple, however the food was meh. It could be because we were just not used to the authenticity of the flavors but I wasn’t too impressed. It is also pretty expensive, the majority of our high tab was drinks.. which were just okay. I didn’t get a good picture of the rigatoni but it was definitely the better dish over the lasagna. We also had 2 desserts, the crepes and chocolate cake. We were not aware of the liquor in the crepes, it was super strong so we didn’t eat them.. although our expectations weren’t fully met I think this is a must try when coming to NY.
