There’s just something special about Citarella! We love going here. The staff is super friendly and helpful. While it is a bit pricier, the produce is so, so fresh. And the pre-made meals there are so delicious too! We love the kale and quinoa salad, chicken Milanese, chili soup, pea soup, and the list goes on :) Their olive bread pocket is also amazing. Wouldn’t buy staple things like /flour/sugar/cereals/etc here, but I’d recommend popping in for produce and other fresh ingredients.
Ive been coming here more during the pandemic and am pleased by the selection and quality of meats and seafood. The seafood is really fresh and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Easy to get staples like salmon. They also have peeky toe crab or rock shrimp sometimes which is hard to find (and super fresh).
They have maintained consistently high quality food over the years. Excellent selection, excellent prepared food, huge selection of fish. Their space is a bit cramped. Can be crowded during peak hours. They are implementing social distancing and there can be line outside when there are too many customers inside.
Beautiful Store, Clean Brightly lite, Items are easy to find, a large selection of fresh food items, some pre packaged and others displayed in there fully inclosed Deli counter. Large selection of Cheeses and staff to guide your decision, also at there large meat section and the beautifully displayed fresh fish counter.
My favorite cake shop. Picked a birthday cake for a young girl and they wrapped it beautifully. It was delicious for all to share. Most importantly, the staff at the bakery section is always welcoming and efficient. A great place to buy reasonably priced cakes for parties or gifting.
Wow so many wonderful things here. Prices are actually very good for the quality of the food sold here. Lots of Citarella brand items, premade food, excellent cheese, meat, and fish selection. Come here for produce too! If I lived near here this is the store Id shop at all the time. Staff was super friendly too! The cheese expert let me sample a delicious cheese we ended up buying. Oh and they have good prices on gourmet coffee, about $10/lb.
One of the best shopping experiences for food. Great prepared department, fresh baked ham, wonderful bread department and best of all great seafood department. Best pastas, olive oils and vinegars. Great cheese department too.all over good place to shop for high end stuff.
This is a specialty grocery store. You will not find all your needs here. Instead, you will find a curated fish and meat counter along with great produce and breads. They have nice but limited dry goods (pasta and canned foods). You can pick up pre-fabbed meals (heat and eat) along with snacks here.Dont forget your wallet. This place is not expensive but not cheap either. The prices are in line with the neighborhood. It is always crowded...
I go out of my way to come here for their meat and fish. Best meat and fish in NYC, (outside of a dedicated butcher and fish monger). If youre in a rush, most of their prepared foods are quite good (except their soups, which are always too salty). Staff is always helpful and jovial, even when theyre slammed with cranky customers around the holiday season.
Neighborhood upscale market in a neighborhood filled with upscale markets. The produce section alone (just inside the door) justifies a visit. Also, thats the department with the most reasonable prices in the store. The meats and fish are beautiful, but command a premium for that beauty. For years Ive sourced my coffee beans from the small, virtually forgotten counter next to the bakery (another great department, with gorgeous, pricey cakes) at reasonable prices, and after work its not typically a big deal to walk in and grab the produce or coffee or slab of meat needed that evening. And the cheesemongers know their wares inside and out, for when one needs a quick hors doeuvre.Weekend mornings? Oh, I hope you have extra time to wait, for the checkout line, even fully staffed, cannot keep up with demand. Days before major holidays are even worse on the Upper East Side. This is simply a testament to the quality Citarella brings to the table.
I use to work here back in 2002 I believe. I actually missed everyone. I only lasted about a month here due to health. But we all got along and worked together. I’m sure the ppl that worked there st the time is not there no more. But this was my first ever job. And it stood with me how everyone treated me.
So disappointed with this citarella location. I love the one in bridgehampton. This store was selling expired or out of date rainbow layer cookies. The place was a mess. Nothing was in stock. The chicken was marbled with white fatty pieces. I wound up getting a refund from corporate for my gross chicken that expired before the sell by date. You couldnt access most fridge items bc the line was blocking it way too small and not maintained. A bad citarella unfortunately since this is the closest one to my home.

2022-05-26Its an elegant well-stocked gourmet store that is a pleasure to go to.It was quite pricey a few months ago but now it is becoming more so, and well above the rate of inflation, which is a pity, as it will push customers away.

2020-07-21I love this place! I come here to get fresh seafood, fresh cut steak and mochi ice cream I cannot find anywhere else. It’s more expensive than a regular grocery store but the quality is unbeatable.

2021-12-17I walked into Citarella which I do once every 1-3 years. I was interested to note that their prices were significantly less than Elis. Sandwiches were generally $9.99 but wished they had more filling and less bread. Cashier checkout was fast. Huge variety of products. My mother likes their seafood section for its freshness.

2022-01-22The stockists. cashiers, and servers on the Upper East Side have a chip on their shoulder. This is not a problem endemic to this store, but regardless, management should hire some out-of-towners that take more pride in their work to avoid this urban customer experience. Until then, it is 1 star, and I will be looking elsewhere.
