I cant express how much I recommend CitiPups. I was looking at every pet store in the city but their instagram page funny videos caught my eye. Norman was so kind, helpful and patient with us on the first visit when we were trying to decide if we should buy the first pup we saw. Of course we got the puppy right away, she is the cutest. I had some questions and concerns after getting her and Sophy from the office attended to every question I had in a matter of minutes. They do not abandon you after all, best choice!
December 16, 2020 I lost my miniature dachshund 11 years old due to cancer I waited six months A few people said not to go to Citipups because they rude and the place is dirty I took everything into consideration I went there myself not only was the place clean but the people were nice and they understood that I had loss my fur baby it was hard picking out a new baby but if I’m not mistaken the gentleman‘s name is Normand he made it easy for me. I got me a Chiweenie Jack Russell her name is Lola and I love her so much.Thank you Citipups Chelsea
I love this place…..yes there are a lot of puppies and they are being sold at high prices (but not nearly as high as many other spots in the city). Yes it’s a pet store. Life is short, and if you want a cute pet store puppy, then get one! Adoption is very difficult these days, many large dogs with behavior issues, and a lot of competition to get a dog, even harder to find one that you really want. I tried, people pressure you to adopt….but that’s not always the best option for every person. It’s a fun place, you sit with a puppy and you can see several if you’re serious about being there and not just playing around. My first puppy didn’t work out, and I brought her back. It was an extenuating circumstance, unfortunately. She went to another buyer who was a better fit. But I took another month and found an absolutely amazing puppy that is smart and wonderful. Lots of people come here, hardworking people who have saved to purchase a puppy for themselves or family, as well as people with lots of disposable income. Everybody wants a puppy, and they leave happy. Our puppy came from a breeder. Don’t assume it’s all puppy mills…ours wasn’t and we couldn’t be happier with him.
The best pet store in all of New York, very affordable prices, personalized attention, excellent customer service from all its employees, Citipups has been a great help in advising and constantly monitoring how our puppy is doing, helping us at all times , I am pleasantly surprised by their dedication and care for their puppies, you will not find a better pet store than citipups, they will help you from day one to how to adapt to your new best friend in your house, they have a line 24/7 that you can call for any questions or concerns you have, they explain the process in a very easy way, it is very personalized, I definitely recommend them
I got my maltese puppy, Benny from here when he was just 5 months old. In February he will be turning 6 years old! He is such a sweet and healthy boy. Really the center of our family. We were looking to adopt first but my family and I have really bad allergies so we needed a hypoallergenic pup which was difficult to find. The staff was kind, informative and I have definitely referred my friends to this place!
I highly recommend Citipups. Ive been there multiple times and always had the same amazing customer experience! Everyone is doing an incredible job: taking their time talking to all customers and answering all your questions and all employees have an excellent knowledge about their pups. They listen carefully what youre looking for and will help you make the best decision. I felt Im in best hands all the time. You will know everything about your new puppy and how to start your new life chapter. All the pups looked happy and been taken care of very well by all employees. If youre looking for a puppy go to Citipups!
Ive been searching for a puppy for well over 8 months now. I work close to this shop. I have gone into this store about 5 times just to see if my experience will be any different. I’ve never been acknowledged, not once. One time, it was later than usual, there were no customers there. I told myself, now would be good time. There was a bald guy there and when I asked about their process and the dogs he was very rude and condescending. They’re only attentive to … I hate to say this because they employ poc- white people. Now that I’ve read the reviews, my suspicions have been confirmed. Nasty people. Cute dogs and one cute cat in a tie.
On Sunday my partner and I went into citipups in Chelsea as a casual date to raise our serotonin cuddling some cute puppies. We actually had no intention of purchasing a puppy as it’s a responsibility & commitment fear I’ve always been scared of, but then I locked eyes with a cream colored Frenchie and her paw met my hand on the glass and well, you can see how I found it hard to stick to the original plan. I asked to play with her, still holding on to the unrealistic belief that I would not be taking her home, but what felt like only a few minutes turned out to be a couple of hours of cuddles, kisses and just bonding. My tune quickly changed and my heart at this point, open and putty-like I knew I could not leave her behind.Oliver was incredible helping us out and what I will say is that the staff at citipups prioritize the puppy’s well being. They aren’t just trying to make a quick sale. Oliver asked questions about my lifestyle and my time availability to make sure that I can be a good fit for the dog and not just vice versa. He insisted that I grab a bite and read over some introductory information and sit with all my thoughts to make sure I wasn’t simply getting caught up in the excitement and making an impulsive decision. I took his advice and still knew in my heart I wanted to make an addition to our family.I asked questions about her breed and her specific litter and background to which i received thorough answers, which included photos and even videos. Rest assured that they operate with a code of ethics prioritizing the pups health and happiness.I even received a demonstration on how to properly groom her and while Oliver acknowledges the Happinessand love a dog can bring he is serious about making sure any prospective families are aware and truly committed to the new responsibility. My partner and actually left a down payment and picked up ur fur baby on Monday so that we can prepare our home for our frenchies arrival, as suggested by Oliver !. (Great suggestion btw for those walking in having not Intended to buy at all because I can’t imagine having had to do it while keeping an eye on our energetic pup)We received thorough copies and guided explanations of the abundant paperwork. We also were ble to proceed with activating our fur babies microchip.I was so happy with the service and information provided and am ELATED with our new baby. It’s exciting to watch them learn and grow. Please remember y’all these are living animals with sentimentwho place so much trust in us. Love them through their WHOLE LIVES! Not just during the puppy state and not just when they are adding to your social media presence !Thank you again Oliver and everyone else at citipups! ( Oliver also told me not to thank him so soon as the real challenges haven’t even presented themselves but I already had a sweater chewed up and I’m still floating on cloud 9 lmao)Shoutout to the handlers that groomed baby Xena before coming home!
I was here genuinely interested in looking at the puppies seeing which one I can take home and other people were filling up the shop and one of the dogs started barking and one of the workers said “there’s too many people here” in a very aggressive way. Like don’t make me feel unwelcome when I’m a potential a customer. Naturally, after I left I checked their reviews page and looks like I’m not the only one with this kind of experience. Left a really sour taste in my mouth but I love their selection of puppies so I just might come back.
We walked into Citipups one Saturday afternoon and saw Rocky, our beautiful Pomeranian puppy. Thank you to Norman for helping us become his new owners. Citipups provided a free appointment with Heart of Chelsea Veterinary clinic and they really are an excellent vet that we would recommend. We are so thankful to Citipups for giving us our little Rocky!
No self-respecting breeder will hand over a puppy to the store. The puppy needs socialization, communication, and not sitting in paper shavings all day, entertaining passers-by who think its cute. Only unscrupulous breeders for whom dogs are a tool of profit sell puppies through stores. In all civilized countries, these stores have been banned for a long time, but there are still a few in New York. If you want to buy a purebred puppy, it cannot be sold in the aquarium of the shop window. Purebred puppies from real breeders are born only from the best representatives with minimal health risk and they are not cheap. Such a store will never provide you with breeders documents because there are no puppies from worthy, self-respecting and loving animals, professional breeders. Before you get a puppy, study the issue and never buy puppies in such stores, by doing this you support unfair breeding, disgusting attitude towards producing dogs and their puppies. All the mental and health problems that the puppy will receive in the first most important months of the formation of his psyche will result in your future problems with him. I advise your store to take a humane side and stop selling live goods.
The puppies were really cute, but it felt like everyone working their hated their jobs :/ i had heard about the place from tiktok, and it looked like a fun environment, but when i went all the employees looked miserable for some reason. they were also kind of snippy when i asked to play with/see a puppy.
We got a little corgi puppy back in October! He is the best thing that has happened to us! He is the cutest little guy in the world ! He is very healthy and happy and well behaved ! Lots of energy and very upbeat ! Such a good boy and so sweet. Cutipups was so helpful to us in the beginning always checking in with us to make sure the little guy was doing well! They also have a 24 hour vet help line if you have any questions!
These are puppy mill puppies! Do not support this nasty buisness. I have a six year old rescue poorly breed malteese mix that were sold from this place after being shipped from Louisiana. She has severe anxiety and her legs are wonky which seems common for puppies kept in these small cages. Shop from reputable breeders or adopt! A reputable breeders has procedures too ensure that their dogs does not end up neglegted or in shelters and sell healthy well breed dogs. Not sick designer mutts
They neuter/spay the puppies way too young. Less than 3 months? insane. They also said the puppy only needed rabies vaccine but i took him to my vet ( the vet they refer you to for the first free visit doesn’t have any weekend or evening hours) and he needed booster shots. Don’t do it.
Let me start by saying I almost did not get my Little fur baby Khloe, reading the negative reviews my daughter and her Dad convinced me not go by the reviews. Story short i got a morkie pup and i love her so much she is healthy and very luvable. P.s do not go by the bad reviews go and see for yourself you wont regret it
I love my baby boy and hes so cute , hes been with me for a month and half. They have a variety of dogs , My baby was going to turn 4 months when I first bought him and hes very playful. We recommend and now he 7 months and now he is 9 months old, I love my baby Brooklyn
The owner guy with tattoos is super rude!! He rushes everything and he’s always yellin he started yelling at me and my sister just for asking a few questions about the dog🙁 and then he made a huge scene in the store acting like a Karen and snatched the poor pet away from me he’s super rude it’s unbelievable!
A small pet store located in Chelsea. (A few years ago, they were selling from puppy mills but claim to have stopped. Id still be cautious about buying from any pet store). They also sell carriers, food, leashes, etc. I was interested in a certain puppy and the clerk didnt seem too enthusiastic to close the sale so I left.
PLEASE READ IF YOU’RE THINKING OF BUYING FROM HERE, I bought my dog from here about two years ago and everything was fine at first, I got my puppy’s info on a document that stated where he came from and the name and address of his parents owners. The person that helped me at the counter constantly repeated to me that they don’t support puppy mills and that my pup came from a loving home. It wasn’t until my pup started showing some interesting behavior traits that I got curious. A simple google search with the address they gave on the document quickly took me to one of the BIGGEST PUPPY MILLS in Missouri. I was shocked at what I saw. AND I GOT THE RECEIPTS. I still love my pup and I’m happy I found him but I definitely DO NOT RECOMMEND.
Love here I got my dog from them after working there for a summer they take great care of the dogs. The owner is a sweet old lady who really loves dogs. They look into every breeder before getting any dogs from them. The workers are very friendly and let you meet and play with the dogs before you pick one. They answer any questions toy have about the dogs.
I went through most of the reviews in Google and the way the OWNER REPLIES to negative reviews or feedback is very UNPROFESSIONAL, INAPPROPRIATE and RUDE. The owner dismisses all negative comments in a very AGGRESSIVE way calling people ACTIVIST, FAKE NEWS, mind your own business under sure your agenda is very busy, etc.I passed by this pet store yesterday and I fell in love with many puppies. Theyre all adorable. I decided to give it a thought. However, its true that they have them under very bad conditions (sweaty, sad, very small cages, most of them alone). Ive been a dog owner all my life and my female dogs had puppies several times. It made me so sad the way they keep the puppies here. They dont have space at all to play, socialize and develop. At that age they should be still with their moms and siblings. Unfortunately the concept of this store is NOT the wellbeing of the animals, but to showcase them better for sale.If this store has been really in the market for over 40 years, it should definitely start thinking of reinventing their concept, facilities and more importantly, their mindset. Theres nothing more attractive than seeing a healthy happy puppy running around and playing with other dogs instead of being in cages.
Oliver has been with my family for 3 years now. Great dog and had him since he was 6 months old. Citipups is a great business. I have referred friends who have also found new family members at excellent prices and health. Since I met Oliver CItipups now makes sure all the puppies are neutered and spayed as by law. Look I understand people dont like Puppy Stores. My first pet was rescued too. But my family is super allergic and finding a hypoallergenic dog such as a havanese at a young age from a shelter is nearly impossible. Trust me I looked! 90% of these reviews are disgruntled activists. Always try to adopt first but if you cant find the perfect housemate that way consider these guys.
Its only been a week, but my husband and I couldnt be happier with our decision to get our fur baby from Citipups in Chelsea. For months, we searched shelters, breeders and other stores for the right puppy for our home and budget. After much contemplation, we settled on Citipups! We fell in love with our little Yorkie online. All their available puppies are online with the price, so you are not going in blind. The store is bright and clean. It DOES NOT SMELL AT ALL LIKE A PET STORE. All the employees are friendly and attentive to the customers. The puppies ALL look HAPPY & HEALTHY. All the display cages were clean and the store was very busy with people playing and socializing with puppies...and we went at 11am in the morning!! Norman was fantastic with helping us. He set us up with the puppy we saw online and allowed us to play with her. He presented me with a plethora of information on the puppy, even more than I asked for. He checked on us periodically not pressuring us to buy the dog, but just to answer questions. We stayed for about an hour and fell in love. We had to make the purchase. Norman had all my puppy essentials ready for me at the register and even threw in a few free toys. We love our Yokie!! She came with a free vet visit too, which we took advantage of. Our baby has a clean bill of health. We couldnt be happier. I know some people have reservations when it comes to buying a dog from a pup store, but it really is a personal decision. All animals need love and its up to the owner to choose how they get their fur babies. Im so grateful for Citipups and Norman for connecting us with our fur companion. I will definitely recommend you guys!!!
Omg this place is absolutely beautiful the dogs are very well kept theyre all in separate cages they bring them out to you if youre interested in any of them they have discounts and you can deposit on your friendly pooch...... You can definitely find your forever friend...
We are so pleased with our dog Emma. She is a Havapoo and we bought her here when she was 2 months and she is almost 4 months now. She is healthy, not one health issue. She has a great temperament and the staff was in constant contact with us when we were first starting w her! Huge YES to this place. Oh and I found the breeder on FB and reaches out and we PM and nope not a mill!!!!!!definitely not a mill. Ty citipups!!! Update: Our dog is now 9 months old and very healthy!!!! Update#1 our pup is still healthy ...update 11month and no health issues UPDATE#2 7 years later! we LOVE this place years later we have a happy healthy Havapoo!! Just visited again and its still the best service and cleanest puppy store I have ever been to. We ❤️ CITIPUPS!!
I know, I know... pet stores are bad. Well I disagree. For a city boy like me, THIS pet store allowed me to get comfortable with the idea of getting a puppy... BEST THING I EVER DID! Both Charley (see picture) and her bestie Bear (not pictured) came from here and they are both doing splendidly!
Me and my wife have been searching for a cockalier puppy for weeks. We were in almost every place in all the boroughs not only looking for a pupppy but also looking around for cleanliness, how the dogs were being handled and how knowledgeable and concerned the staff were in getting a puppy to a home without just seeing dollar signs. We came across the Chelsea location first and were extremely impressed. Then we went to the village location and were just as happy. We noticed both places did not smell, staff was helpful and patient, and the all the dogs were attached to the care taker when he was around. With that being said last Sunday we took home a handsome cockalier that we named Romeo.Just had a vet check thoroughly through my vet and said the puppy is in great shape and healthy. We would like to thank citipups and their staff NORMAN,OLIVER AND EMI for their help bringing home our puppy. We look forward to doing business with them for a long time and will highly recommend them to any dog lover.
Absolutely amazing puppy buying experience, puppy is healthy calm and already seems adjusted and we just bought him yesterday. Definitely well socialized and looking forward to starting a life with them! The owner of this location definitely knows what he’s talking about and is easy to work with!! I highly recommend this location!
The staff was very friendly and helpful. You had given me a piece of advice on handling the pet properly and neatly. Besides, the dalmatian that I bought was too lovely and cute. After visiting your shop, I promise to visit again for the consultation. Also, I like your place the most. Honestly, it was clean, comfortable, and safe. Thanks a lot!
We could not be happier with our little Pomeranian! As a business owner, I was thoroughly impressed with this establishment. I was ESPECIALLY thrilled to see how well kept the puppies were, the cleanliness, attention to detail, and the consistent follow-ups from the staff. THANK YOU! Our baby is healthy and we love him :)
Best place to go when youre feeling down or you need some free puppy kisses. The dogs are crazy expensive but its a friendly and peaceful environment. The staff is helpful and nice and the place of always kept super clean. If the dogs were a little more affordable Id probably have 4 but I guess thats a good thing.
They didn’t let me and my friend see any dog. They told us in order to meet one of the puppies we had to guarantee take them home but we saw countless people meet with puppies and walk out of the store. Very bias :’( unfortunate because I was looking for a Shiba inu but they didn’t let me meet any of them. :/ Craigslist I go.
Fun place!Lots of cute puppies!Emanuel was nice.I liked playing with the puppies. It made me feel better, since I have depression it was to sit and play tug of war, and spend time there.I was not rushed or pressured into anything. There is a puppy I liked.I did call to talk to Him, but he didn’t remember me.I guess so many people go there! They have all kinds of stuff to buy there!I’m looking forward to going back!Place is clean.Puppies are fed well! The seem a bit bored, once you take one out to play with they love it!and go nuts!Guess it depends on the breed, one little girl was sitting with a very sweet Frenchie He was mellowand sweet!
Do not purchase here. Save your money and save yourself from heartbreak! They Guarantee purebred, no puppy mill dogs but it all lies. They have great sales people in the shop who feed you lies and misinformation to just make buck, but ones you start having issues and problems they do not respond for weeks at a time or not at all! We got a mini Aussie back in April and have had nothing but issues as he got older. It pains me to go into details because Im so heart broken but our little pup looks Nothing like an Aussie, hes inbred with major aggression and neurological problems. This poor puppy was from an 8 year old mom, which is way to old to breed if you want quality puppies! We have literally tried and done everything we can, from puppy classes to specialized trainers, camps. its been an on going money pit! We even tried meds and that didnt go well at all. The worst part of it all is that they take no accountability whatsoever, they had the breeder call me to offer me another dog. Despite the breeding problems he is also double in size of what he was supposed to be. Maybe the breeder made the mistake of giving me information she shouldnt have but the shop is all lies! I would have liked to settle this with the directly and not trash them on social media but they havent left me any other choice because they wont respond. I will be filling a claim with the BBB and get our layer involved, maybe that will get their attention. Please please do yourself a favor and find a direct breeder that you can visit and see the puppies, do not buy from these guys!
I have purchased two puppies here over the course of the past 4 years. Their dogs have great bloodlines/ genetics. I have spoken extensively with employees from the Chelsea location, & the workers will even go to meet with the breeders to ensure healthy living conditions and care are being provided to the mothers and puppies. An employee even checks in with you after you purchase to make sure that the puppy is doing well in its new home. Please note: Its not easy for everyone to go through an adoption process to rescue a dog, especially, if you already have dogs and have children; there are risks involved.Thank you for being solid Citipups of Chelsea!
100% satisfied with the level of service, attention and variety of pups available. Emilio and staff were great and walked us through the process fast, thoroughly and easily...Puppies seemed well taken care of, with their nails clipped, cleaned, brushed and well fed. This business definitely cares for their babies.
I’m so disappointed. I came in here with my girlfriend to inquire about buying our first puppy together. The service was extremely disrespectful and rude. One man in particular who was older and bald, the one who seemed to grab the puppies from their cages to let people play with them, left an extremely sour taste in our mouths. There were several people in there and I’m not sure why we weren’t taken seriously while no one else seemed to have issues. When we asked to play with a puppy he rudely asked “are you going to buy a puppy?” When he never questioned anyone else when they asked to play with one. Then he puts the dog down and says “this one’s $3,000....” very condescendingly. There’s more... after this puppy didn’t seem to take to us and made a little mess he was put back in the cage. Shortly after many new people came in while we were still looking at other options to take home. I smiled at him and waved to get his attention and over several people he said “I’m not taking out every dog for you guys.” And everyone looked at us... mind you we only played with one dog the entire time while other people played with several seemingly without issues. So embarrassed and angry I told him I simply had a question. After this we were furious and left the store. This is the worst customer service I’ve seen in years. Please address this.
Indisputably, New York Citys best pet shop, by far! An awesome selection of healthy, hard-to-find pedigrees, and popular pedigree mixes! The friendly, knowledgeable staff are pet owners as well, and deliver superb service with a personal touch! To top it off, the manager speaks fluent French!
Expensive, but filled with lots of small breed puppies, especially Frenchies. The pups are kept behind plexiglass for their safety. Anyone looking to buy a dog is offered the opportunity to sit with them inside a small gated area on the floor. The day that I was there, staff did not ask patrons to sanitize their hands before petting/handling the puppies (like Central Pups does) -- but they really should have. Other than that, the store is clean, well stocked, and spacious.
The staff here are awesome, very responsive and respectful. They genuinely love the puppies and interact with them in an affectionate way (which is the opposite impression I got at the Village location, the puppies were traumatized by the employees). It would be nice to see a women diversify the all male staff, but Ill certainly be back again! Thank you for the puppy time, Citipups!
Lots of cut puppies BUT they come from puppy mills. The staff tell you they dont but I looked up the breeder for the puppy we looked at and the breeder has 67 breeding adults - thats a mill. So important not to support that industry. We adopted a lovely small breed poodle mix puppy from a rescue and were in love with her.
We bought a dog from here three years ago that we love, but recently underwent eye surgery at age 3. The first thing the canine ophthalmologist asked us was if our dog was from a pet store. And advised that complications such as hers are common among dogs that come from puppy mills. Not to mention when we picked her up at 8 weeks old, she had extreme food aggression, a respiratory infection and giardia. She is also now on a daily pill for incontinence which our vet advised is possibly from being spayed too young. Adopt don’t shop
It seems really clean and friendly. I’ve went severel times and I would definitely purchase a pup from them. I love how they allow you to have quality time with the puppies first. I hope their claim to not supporting puppy mills is true because that would really suck.
Me and my wife just got a pup from these guys and we love her to pieces. She is beautiful and loving and healthy. The staff were very professional and caring and we felt like they really care. They went over everything we have to do with her, vet check up etc.We were not particularly planning on getting a pup today and it was a little crazy but were very happy we did so.
They sold me a dog that had kennel cough. Had to wait 3 weeks after purchasing him to get him from the store as it took 2 weeks to cure and then he had to be neutered. Then I find out at the vet once I finally pick him up that he has gerardia (parasite) and tapeworm in addition to an umbilical hernia. Had to keep my other dog (age 1) with my parents in NJ for 3 months as both parasites are highly contagious and it took this long to cure the new puppy of them. He had to go through 4 rounds of antibiotics before he was cured during which I had to commute back and forth to Chelsea about ten times. I live 35 minutes away and had to pay taxis each trip. During this time I had to scrub everything constantly and administer medicines twice a day. Stool was loose all over. Not exactly ideal when you think you are buying a healthy puppy for the sole purpose of your other puppy having a friend only to find out you need to separate them during a crucial time of bonding. While at the vet by the shop that they send you to, another Citipups customer was there with her puppy she had just purchased who was also getting treated for parasites. I paid 1K and asked for them to do something for all of the inconvenience this caused me. Had to fight to get a $100 store credit. Laughable. They did pay the vet bill but thats expected. The store manager was unsympathetic when we spoke and told me its common to get dogs with parasites. I told him I was going to write this review and he told me to go ahead. I asked the manager to have the owner call me after we spoke as I was unsatisfied with the resolution of this nightmare and he did not call. Really disappointing. Youd think theyd give me half my money back. Nope. What a terrible experience.
I rescued a 5 1/2 month old mal-shi there 8 years ago that I had tracked for months. She was getting big and and it was mid January. They were very negotiable and concerned that she go to a good home. They were friendly and very helpful and informative. Our girl has never had any health issues and is one of the best dogs I have ever had. (I have also rescued kill shelter dogs, purchased from breeders directly and adopted free to good home dogs.) One gripe, the outrageous prices they quote for mainly mixed breed dogs.
I unexpectedly bought a puppy at Citi Pups , and was very pleased. My family and I were strolling around Greenwich Village and I was enticed by the adorable puppies in the window. We got a chance to play with our puppy in a fairly large corral before purchasing. The workers seemed like they really loved their puppies. Normally dog places have an odor, but this place didnt and we assumed it was because of cleanliness. I didnt read any of these unsatisfactory comments before buying, and I am very happy with her. I cannot agree with some of the comments, and did not notice anything wrong with the pups. Citi Pups have called and texted several times to make sure our puppy is healthy and we are content. We love our dog and she was the best choice for us.
They sold me a puppy a while ago telling me it’s a Shih-tzu poodle mix, but later the dog DNA test she’s more schnauzer and hardly have any poodle in her. When I ask them for proof and the dog parents pictures they won’t send me anything so I believe they lied to me and sold me the wrong breed!!! DO NOT BUY FROM THEM LIERS!!!
So many bad reviews and I dont know why. We got our little Frenchie named Stanley from here in January and he is perfect! We also take him to the daycare there 3 days a week and Stan loves it! He walks me there in the morning because he SO ecstatic and refuses to leave in the evening because he loves it so much!! The place is very clean and the staff is very friendly. It is very busy place so dont expect to be served champagne while youre puppy shopping. Anybody I speak to who has gotten their puppy from here have been equally happy so please dont be discouraged just do your research on the specific dog breed you are wanting so you understand exactly what youre getting into. This place is great! Stan and I love it here and were very happy together!!
It’s an awesome place! The bald man was extremely helpful even when I was asking dumb questions! He helped us sort out everything. He gave us the essential materials for owning a dog(pads, food, brush, etc.) I got a morkie on Decemberof 2017 and named him Theo. The dogs were all nice and adorable. I got my dog from here and he was a really energetic dog! He also seemed to choose me. I got him for about $2000 and with the materials, $3000. That was the best $3000 I have ever spent. My family never intended on buying a dog, but when we saw a morkie, we need we needed to get him. Anyways, props to the man that was bald! He helped me a lot!
If possible I would give zero stars to this store for the way they use way too young puppies to make some money. When entering the shop I was devestated. The dogs are kept in narrow cages with a plastic underground. Some of them - the lucky ones - were put together so at least they could calm eachother. I was very noisy for a lot of the puppies cried also they scratched at the glas to get out. I doubt they ever leave the shop before the purchase at all. Obviously neither the staff nor the customers seem to have an understanding of dogs not being toys and of what they desperately need. They need space, company and their moms. Some of them looked way too small to be purchased yet. If you love (your) dogs please do not support this torturing and traumatising business with the needing puppies. :’-(
I walked in for the first time to see the puppies. I noticed that the place isnt clean, there was one french bulldog that was sneezing and dry heaving with green mucus coming out of its nose. The owner told one of the workers to check on the puppy. I do not trust this place. I suggest to not support these places because the animals are not healthy and do not look good.
I was a little concerned after reading some of the reviews here so I decided to see for myself what the shop was all about (went to the Chelsea branch). The place was clean and smelled great for a pet shop, I would say better than many NYC restaurants; the puppies were all attentive and playful except for the sleeping ones, many basically demanding attention as soon as one stopped by their cages. I was not certain on which puppy I wanted to purchase so I spent a long time staring at all the wink filled smiles from across the glass; the staff never tried to pressure me to move along and only asked once whether I needed any help. The store was filled with other people in the puppy buying process but I never felt unattended and once I finally decided I wanted to interact with a puppy in one of their playpens I was immediately taken to the back and in the pen with her. I must say that EVERY puppy out in a pen was highly interactive, playful, cheerful; none looked lethargic or upset in ANY way. I am a new puppy owner so I did not have many of the things I needed for her but the person who helped me didnt try to push anything and instead offered choices and was very knowledgeable. They gave my puppy a bath and trimmed her nails and gave me lots of good recommendations on what to do in case she did not want to eat in her new environment etc. I am happy to report that we are now home and not only is she incredibly playful and thoroughly amazing but shes been eating without any issues and has managed to steal the hearts of her grandparents who live over a 1000 miles away. I was given my puppys pedigree and contact information for her breeder including his address in case I ever want to contact him for any reason so I am over the moon with the service and certainly with Lilly, my new puppy. The one blotch on my day were the protesters outside who were screaming about puppy mills, etc. I doubt any pet shop would give me contact information on a breeder that runs a puppy mill so I encourage you to check out their location and certainly to play with the puppies, you wont be sorry you did!
The puppies you see in the window are from puppies mills and the parents of the cute puppy live in a cage or kennel all of their lives and no love or know what it feels like to have a soft bed or grass on their feet.No reputable breeder ships their puppies off in the dead of night to some random store to be adopted by people they themselves know nothing about. Why? Because they love their dogs more than they love a paycheck. For the sake of animal welfare, adopt or find a reputable breeder you can meet in person and meet the dog parents as well. They should screen you just as hard as you screen them! Lets work to end pet stores and not fund or enable a cycle of cruelty powered by greed.USDA breeds are puppy mills or a backyard breeders.
The puppies may look cute, but they also look drugged and sick. Zero stars if I could. My friend got his dog here and the dog has had a whole host of health problems (the frenchie had to have back leg surgery and is often sick).Dont support these places - they say they dogs are from breeders but absolutely no reputable breeder would allow their dogs to be sold at a store. Anyone with experience with dogs should know how awful of an experience this is for dogs - especially for puppies at that young of an age. If you want a pure bred dog, do research online and find a reputable breeder. If youre able, adopt! Plenty of doggos need loving homes.
I was shocked to stumble across Citipups. I had no idea that places like this even existed in 2017, let alone in New York City. Its illegal to sell puppies like this in the U.K. Its against the law and so it should be. I dont know a single person who would not be utterly horrified at the sight of an establishment like this.It broke my heart and brought me to tears actually.Young eight week old puppies isolated and incarcerated in what are essentially, small glass boxes, void of the company and mental/physical stimulation they desperately need.Stressed, anxious, scared and alone. I saw puppies huddled in the corner of their cage shaking whilst others were manically pacing. Whilst others are placed in the shop window mixed in groups consisting of various different breeds. Firstly, you should never purchase a puppy without seeing it with its Mother, thats an absolute BASIC requirement. Secondly, puppies should not be immediately mixed with other dogs until two weeks after their SECOND injection at 12 weeks old. Neglect that requirement and you may well encounter a sick pup. How else are diseases such as kennel cough spread. Ignorance and stupidity allow businesses like this to thrive at the expense of the health and wellbeing of the animals. Its shameful. But more importantly its cruel. Heartbreakingly cruel. One should ask HOW these young puppies are sourced. That is the key question here. No respectful breeder would allow the sale of their puppies in this manner and no respectful person would purchase one under these circumstances. Vets bills alone for a sick dog typically cost thousands of dollars, and a search online will show you that Citipups and similar places are frequently being sued for selling sick animals. If you want a puppy, find a proper breeder. The dog will be healthy, happy, well adjusted, and a safe companion for you and your kids.
I have the weirdest feeling that they don’t like black people here. Whenever I go here with my child, the workers watch us like hawks and always cut our playtime with the puppies short. On our last visit, none of the other people playing with the puppies were interrupted. In fact, they let them choose other puppies to play with. When the worker came over to us, they told us that a lot of people were waiting and took the puppy. While we were walking out of the store, there were THREE unused pens for all of those “waiting people” to use.
The puppies look incredibly sick. They put the healthy puppies in the front window to lure you inside (I’m obviously guilty of this) and then they have a wall of puppies in small cages that look so unhealthy. Do not support this business - if they got their dogs from true breeders then the breeders would never put their dogs in these conditions.
These poor puppies do not have enough room to live happily and comfortably. There was also a stairway in the back leading to a basement with even more suffering animals shoved in cages. The place made me sick and almost brought me to tears. This pet store, and all pet stores in general need to be reported. It is not right to artificially breed animals when there are so many others associated with the humane society that need saving. They are creating overpopulation of dogs which then causes the less perfect ones to be homeless. STOP. BUYING. PETS. Adoption is the better option! Dont allow these ignorant people to keep breeding dogs when they are keeping them in horrible conditions and are creating problems for other animals that need saving. It blows my mind that this place hasnt been shut down yet, and that the workers here take pride in mistreating their dogs to make money.
My first time and last time here. When I walked by I noticed the puppies at the window. I was very excited I decided to take a look inside. It was a little crowded which could’ve been the reason why the bold guy in the yellow shirt was overwhelmed. However, he was extremely rude. He ignored me for at least 20 minutes and every time I asked somebody else for help they will point to him. So I waited. He finally gets to me and says I’m not showing you no more puppies. Keep in mind I have yet to see one. Long story short I get to see the puppy. When he opened the gate she got scared and ran to the corner and he pulled her forward by her leg. Before putting her in the black gate with me he tells his coworkers in Spanish that people love to see the puppies and ask question when they don’t have any money to buy them. Now I don’t think this was a direct comment towards me but regardless it’s not a nice comment at all. Next time be more aware of your surroundings sir just because one looks black or white doesn’t mean anything. They can mixed like the one who understood your comment. Haitian, Dominican and Puerto Rican just in case you wanted to know.
Strangely enough, I had experienced an unexplainable negative feeling about this place and the people that worked there when I walked in. Particularly the gentleman with dark rimmed glasses. From that negative vibe alone I would steer clear from spending any money here. I smell something fishy
Wish I could give this 0 stars. Went in today to look at pups for fun and the puppies were stuffed in cages and scared to death when a worker opened the cage so he pulled the puppie by the neck to get her out of the cage. Bad place do not buy from breeders and puppy mills! Doesn’t matter how clean or nice the staff is! Please rescue!
Overly priced pet merchandise, and puppies outrageously priced they indicate they dont support puppy mills meanwhile does business with breeders which is not to far out to being the same thing. Whos to say they churning out puppies for profit when no customer sees the conditions of these breeders facilities.
I have purchased three dogs from Citipups. A Shiba Inu in 2011, an Italian Grayhound in 2012 and a Boston Bulldog in 2013.For those of you leaving negative reviews, get a grip! Animals get sick in the same way that children get sick in a nursery. Their immune systems are weak and need to build up and if you purchase a dog from Citipups and they are sick (which is rare), guess what? They gave you a piece of paper that tells you to contact them! Our Shiba needed to be nebulized after we bought him and they took care of him and six years later he is a happy, healthy and amazing family member. You dont have to shop here, but quit trashing a business that serves a market and is very proactive at making sure you are a happy pet parent!
My mother and sister took me to Citipups to look at the puppies. The staff was already cleaning the store ten minutes before it opened. When we entered the store it smelled and looked fresh. One of the staff workers set us up and we held a male Maltese ,who was four months, and a male Pomeranian, who was two months old. All of the puppies looked happy, well fed, clean, and energetic. The staff was extremely nice. Hopefully next time I go back I will come home with a brand new Citipup!
I bought my little Jerry 2 days ago at this place. The same day I brought him home I saw that he was not feeling well, coughing a lot, sneezing, gave a fever at night! The next morning I took him to the vet and he was diagnosed with kennel cough, he is taking 4 different types of remedies, and he is very sad ... I just called in the citipups to make a complaint and to say that other puppies may be Contaminated. The staff told me that it is normal for them to sell sick puppies, because they are very young, and if I want I can return the dog they care for! 😡😡😡
This place ought to close down. They take terrible care of the animals. Our puppy had kennel cough (throat infection), an eye infection and an ear infection as soon as we took her home and to the vets. Cleary, they have taken very poor care of the animals they have. So glad we rescued her from there and are now providing her with the proper medical care. So sad, to pay so much money to an organization that does not even use that money towards ensuring the health and safety of the animals. Breeding for profit with a lack of care towards animal well-being is not an organization people should be supporting.
I purchased a beautiful, healthy, sweet-natured, mixed-breed pup from CitiPups. The owner happened to be there, as well as several staff members, and they were friendly, informative and helpful. They guided me on what supplies I needed (and explained their purposes, so I didnt feel pushed); provided us with easy-to-follow care instructions; offered a top-notch vet recommendation; gave me a few items for free; and followed up via phone a week later to see how things were going. I go back regularly, and see how much their staff really cares for dogs by how well they take care of them. Granted, the pup prices can seem a little high at times...but hey, its NYC. Ive never had a bad experience at CitiPups or seen anything that concerned me.
Please dont buy your animals from here. You never know what you are going to get or their history. I adopted a shiba inu from a woman who had impulse bought the dog here. Upon some research I found out the breeder my new pup had come from has been reported to the health department 3 times for violations. Not only this, but my puppy at 5 months old is already 30lbs, which is almost double the breed standard. At this point Im starting to think shes half labrador. Find a nice adoption agency that can guarantee the health of your new animal. Socialtees in the east village does great work. This place does not deserve your $$, they contribute to so much animal suffering.
All of the puppies sold here are from puppy mills. Puppy mill dogs have American Kennel Club papers and are from a USDA licensed breeder. Check out the Humane Societys 5 tips for buying a dog to find an ethical breeder if you want a puppy. Rescues have all breeds. If you do business with this store, you are supporting dogs trapped in wire cages living in hellish conditions. Its too embarrassing to be seen with a dog from a pet store, rescue pups the coolest breed these days. Adopt dont shop! Puppy mills suck!
How these people sleep at night, I have no idea. This place abuses and neglects their dogs. Multiple people have come forward after buying their dogs that they are sick because they did not get the proper health care. And they lie to you and tell you they are healthy. An undercover video recently exposed how they treat their dogs and its incredibly hard to watch. This place must be shut down. Whatever you do, dont set foot in there. Plenty of adoptable dogs in NYC that need homes. Social Tees rescue has plenty and they are amazing people. @socialteesnyc
These retail store puppies have diseases from living in a box, social problems due to being yanked from their mothers and siblings at a young age, and the ones who already died are not on display. Dont suppose these puppy pet store theyre horrible. Also the store sells to impulse snipers knowing they will probably being the puppy back or give it up to shelter for adoption they are driven by profit. Dont buy puppies here. Dont do it.
I just moved into the Chelsea area recently with my girlfriend and I had been thinking about getting a puppy for our new home. I went to a couple of shelters in the area and fell in love with a 2 year old Sheltie, however they made the adoption process such a headache that it was it was nearly impossible to get the dog home. My girlfriend had never had a dog before so the deciding factor was him being too scared to commit to the responsibility so we didnt end up getting her. We were walking down 8th avenue and stumbled upon a pet shop that attracted us in with their cute puppies in the window. I was initially surprised at how sparkly clean the store was for a place that sold animals. The lighting, the wood floors, and the fresh smell was definitely something I was not used to. I was greeted by a young man that asked me if i needed any assistance, His name is Emilio and he was very helpful and knowledgeable. My girlfriend and I ended up purchasing a Cock-a-poo puppy and we are totally happy with our choice.I highly recommend Citipups Chelsea, and Emilio!
Three dogs purchases from this store. Their service has been above and beyond. Friends have purchases puppies and had the occasional health concern (as puppies sometimes do), and Citi Pups have gone above and beyond in ensuring the dog is taken care of.Before you believe the false, protesting reviews, take time out to visit either the Chelsea or Village store and see for yourself.
I got an amazing puppy with a great personality, but I got her and shes sick with Kennel cough because they dont vaccinate the puppies or actually care about the puppies wellbeing. All they care about is getting them from puppy mills and making money. Its really really sad. She also has an eye infection, so I spent 1600 on a dog and already spent 1000 on vet bills. Amazing personality...Crazy about this dog but shes sick and Im crazy stressed out because she wont stop coughing and vomitting. Only had her a week well see whats next. Cute dogs but sick.
This place is TERRIBLE. I would give negative stars if possible. My puppy i brought home five days ago is so incredibly sick with a fever of 104, a horrible cough, vomiting, kennel cough and extreme lethargy. Please this place is horrible and needs to be shut down. These puppies are treated horribly and dont deserve this.
P 1507737 I am saddened that I must write this review about Citi Pups. I was not planning to get my baby girl from Citi Pups, but I fell in love with this little girl last August. After a couple weeks, we made the decision that we had to take her home. Our experience with the purchase and taking our Puppy home was excellent. The staff was extremely helpful and professional. After getting our baby girl home, it was discovered that she had some parasites, Citi pups worked with us to resolve this issue. Everything was going great until we had her 5-6 months. Despite being a beautiful, sweet, well behaved puppy... Around 9 months old, we noticed her limping on her hind leg. This limping turned in to lameness and eventually became painful and caused her to lose her balance and fall. During this progression, she was taken to vet for exam. The vet recommend seeing an ortho specialist for patella problems. Please note there had been no accident or injury to cause this situation. Prior to seeing the specialist, we took her to another vet for a second opinion. This 2nd opinion vet, is actually the vet office that Citi Pups works closely with in Tribeca. The diagnosed her with congenital subluxation of patella in hind leg, recommended orthopedic surgery to repair this injury to prevent permanent limp and or tendon tear. During the two week time we were waiting for scheduled surgery, our baby girl started limping and became lame on her opposite hind leg. This lameness prevented her from being able to walk without losing her balance, collapsing and rolling over when both of her hind legs gave out. This was a traumatic and painful thing to see. The orthopedic specialist confirmed that our 9 month old who we had less than six months had COGENTIAL subluxation of patellas in both hind legs. At this point we are faced with the additional estimated cost of 2800.00 per leg to repair her patella. YES. 5600.00 FOR SURGERIES, not including the 650.00 for the exams to diagnose and get second opinion. We preceded with the first surgery of one leg. Following the surgery, she required a private dog walker 3 times a day to carry her out to do her business for about a week. During this time, she had to be medicated and wear a collar she found uncomfortable. As she was recovering, the other hind leg became worst, causing her to fall. This caused additional pain that was unnecessary for her to experience. The surgery is scheduled for the other leg once the other leg heals.Out of respect for Citi pups business. I emailed, mailed and phoned the office with details of my baby girls congenital problems that occurred within 6 months of purchase. We provided an entire history from purchase contract, initial pet visit, medical records and pictures of her condition and lameness. We kindly asked that they honor our contract. Please note that by this point, we are emotionally drained, sad, and nervous about her condition and potential future problems that could decrease her quality of life. Not to mention the huge financial burden of paying $6000.00 to keep our baby girl healthy.Initially, Citi Pups emailed me back within hours. They were courteous and responsive. I then spoke to them by phone, they requested additional medical records which I obtained and submitted within two hours of request. The office informed me that the file had been given to the owner. THE FIRST STRANGE response was that I was told that they have no way to contact the breeder because they suddenly retired, do not have contact info, as well as the sire and dame no longer being breeded. After a week of not hearing back from Citi pups, I followed up, they stated that the owner/management had the files and they would remind them to get in touch we me. I did not hear anything. I followed up again this past week, with no response. BEFORE YOU PROCEED with purchase, do your homework
I got my 4 month old puppy named daisy, after that day she got kennal cough, and i later discovered she also had pneumonia as well. The guy that sold me the puppy said that cause she was old, hell give me a discount of 500$. To me that was sweet and nice, and good customer service. I didnt know that the puppy was already sick. Literally that same day she was coughing, and wheezing. I took her to the vet and they gave me meds, and said daisy has pneumonia. I was utterly shocked and was devastated. I didnt even had her for a month. I had her 2 weeks and a half. She just passed away today. I dont know what the store is doing, but please dont do this to anyone else. I welcomed her into my home. Loved her like a family member. And when she passed away, i felt like my heart was ripped away. I dont know if you gave me a sick pup on purpose, cause i had read the comments on google. And they were basically the same as mine. But please take better care of the dogs. Cause they are more than dogs when someone welcome them into their own home. They come family members.
🛑 Horrible🛑 !!! The pets are not healthy. Bacteria and parasites infected.Always have your pet properly examined before taking your pet home. The tests and treatment are very expensive. It can and will take multiple times to treat your pet. Also avoid there recommended Vet!Action towards city pets have been admitted. Please avoid promoting City Pets.
I just got home from Citipups which i was so close to getting the cutest puppy... but before coming i read the reviews and two stood out to me which was about puppy mills and being discriminated ... the owner replied and denied/apologized so i let it go and decided to check it out because i was so determined to get a pup and wanted to ask questions of my own when i entered the store i immediately saw puppies in the back so my sibling and i went to check them out because we were so excited and an employe came rushing an told my little sister she wasnt allowed to pet the puppy (which i totally understand because they dont want anything to happen to the puppies) he got kinda upset and said Im taking them away he seemed upset which i understood because the store was packed and he was probably stressed out ..so i thought.. we were looking for help but no one would help us and the same guy that took the puppies away kept being friendly to everyone inside the store but Me so i got upset and he then pushed me never apologized and when i asked for help he got upset and answered very vaguely and ignored me and kept asking other people for help instead of helping me... & btw i highly suggest talking to the lady protesting against citipups because she talks about puppy mills and gives you important information about getting a dog/puppy !! she was more helpful than they were and educated me more on puppy mills/ dog shops / and getting a dogs online..
My sister bought a Shih Tzu two years ago and we are all so in love with him! So I had to get one of my own. I bought Jetson (Shih Tzu) two days ago and could’nt be happier. I sent my sister in law the next day and she bought Ollie another Shih Tzu. The salesman Emi was so great! He was very patient and showed us any baby we wanted to see. He explained everything and made sure we understood everything before signing any paper. Thank you!!
You have to be a specific type of person to enter this store and not be discriminated against. Plan and simple my visit her was ridiculous. The puppies are beautiful and the staff is nice BUT the boss the bald guy was completely discrimintive to me the moment I asked to play with a dog. I guess because of the fact that I dont feel the need to dress up Proper on my Saturday afternoons he thought that I was just a simple hoodlum so with out even finishing my sentence he stated that I couldnt because all the petting areas where full, I was understanding the place was kinda full but the co worker informed us both out loud that there was one open. The boss pissed off brought me the puppie I wanted to see and then said not to take her off the ground following the rule and playing with the energenic puppie I noticed everyone around me was holding the puppie they where playing with. When I tried to do the same guess who came back to speak with me again ... The boss and well lets just say because he assumed I wasnt going to buy a puppie he rushed me out of the space because other people wanted to play with puppies ... I HADNT EVEN PLAYED WITH THE PUP LONGER THEN 2 MINUTES. But I was the one being rushed. And to top that off I had entered the story with family and my fiance who happened to all be dressed nicer then me and I was lucky enough to be spoken about when I was playing with the puppie. My finace informed me that Mr.Boss man argued with his co worker for allowing me to even play with the pup. Funny how things go because I was actually going to buy a puppie but after he took the puppie out of the play cage from me the way he did I knew I wasnt welcome. The reason this place gets 2 stars is because of the co worker and the adorable puppies there other then that boss man drove me out the store so fast it wasnt even worth the train ride there. Again my purpose was to buy a puppie but I cant stand discriminitive people. My advice if you are going there dress proper what ever that actually means.
Bad service. When I visited there appeared to be only one employee on the floor that was suppose to be interacting with customers. But he was not a people person at all. He looked bothered any time someone came up to him. Ask him for any information and he would give a simple and disinterested response before moving on to something else (which was not helping another customer out) as if he had better things to do than helping a customer thats right in front of him . Oh and if you dont look a certain way then you wont be acknowledged at all. I guess if you dont look like you have big bucks your business isnt worth as much as someone who does? Nonetheless I took my business else where. Citipups may want to hire people who are approachable and know a thing or two about good customer service. But judging by the negative reviews responses, the owner will either dismiss this review with a busy day excuse or attack me because I must be an activist. Lol very professional.Update: I see where the employees learn their great customer service from. Potential Buyers theres about 60 reviews on yelp, a whole lot more variety of experiences there.
I went into citi pups to look at frenchies and took out one from her cage. Her feet were so badly splayed it was sad. when i told the worker about her feet i got an attitude i mean the pup looked healthy otherwise but a pup with horrible feet and bone growth should not be sold for 3000 dollars.
This place is very sad because of the small puppies kept in these clear box cages as if they were objects. Also, where they get there puppies from isnt transparent which Leads me to believe they are from a puppy mill .Do not support stores like these that care more about money then animal welfare.

2022-03-14Last year 2021 I brought my little girl Pomerian this year 2022 I returned and brought my little boy. I love this boutique the puppies are well taken cared of and very healthy and clean including the store. The staff are very respectful and patient with you while you make your choice. The only issue I have is they don’t allow you to have pictures of the parents of the beautiful puppies & I would have loved to know who my babies features took after most like which parent. That was my own problem but everything else was great and I love both of my puppies they are beautiful healthy Pomerians

2022-07-28I got my BFF puppy back in May and choosing Citipups was the best decision ever. They TRULY care about their puppies and are attentive with everything. They are extremely knowledgeable about their pups and helpful with any questions you have. Their service in-store was amazing and such a pleasure to work with. They even follow up with you and check in to see how your puppy is doing. My puppy is a good boy and growing healthy everyday. Thank you Citipups Chelsea, you guys will be the only ones I will highly recommend when it comes to finding a new family member.

2022-07-25I got my sweet girl in February, I was hesitant at first because of some of the reviews but I couldn’t have had less to worry about. The place was clean, the staff was friendly, and the puppies were healthy! It’s been months and I am even happier than when I first brought her home. She is the best thing that ever happened to me and I can’t thank CITIPUPS enough!

2022-03-11I am in love with our new little “Teddy” his name is Teddy and he’s a Teddy Bear. Citipup was awesome knowledgeable and a pleasure to work with. They provided all of necessities he needed to come help home. We got a chance to play with a few dogs but when we played with this one something clicked. He was our puppy. He came with all supporting documents and a clean bill of health. I appreciate the transparency and the way their team keeps in touch almost a month later. If your looking for a new addition to the family you can’t go wrong with citipups.

2022-01-12Had the best experience with Citipups. I live just a block away and walked past the store, and left with the cutest, nicest, most wellbehaved puppy you could ask for. He has been a dream dog, and they made it such a lovely experience. Highly reccommend getting your dog here!
