I didnt think it was legal to sell puppies in a NYC pet shop? So why is it still happening? Puppies in small glass enclosures?!! Poor babies. They look so sad. I asked where the puppies come from? Of course, they come from reputable breeders. So I got a name of one of these reputable breeders and googled it when I got home. No info?!I bought a puppy from a reputable pet shop who also got their puppies from reputable breeders. I found out AFTER I paid for the puppy that she had an under-bite. I later researched the reputable breeder, dug deep, and found out my puppy came from a puppy mill! That was 15 years ago. I always say we rescued her, because she DID come from a puppy mill AND from a pet shop where she was NOT treated kindly and only represented $$--so we rescued her from that, and I am grateful that we did! But I honestly didnt know about puppy mills back then. I didnt know I was supporting them. Google it. My sweet puppy ended up having many health issues and died too young. Adopt dont shop OR else well never stop this madness!
If you walk into this Petstore and you observe the pups over time, It makes one very cautious. One of the reviews noted that an employee was telling a customer, that every Friday new breeds get delivered. What kind of reputable breeder would do that.Wake up people, report any thing that looks like a medical condition exits.
Or search is over and we couldn’t be happier. We found the perfect puppy for our family. Thank you Emi and all the staff you guys are phenomenal. We also received a full detailed care package for our puppy to care of him at home and what to do if we needed any help. The establishment is clean and the puppies are well taken care of.
This place is truly a gem! I walked in thinking I wanted a shih tzu and Emi was so kind enough to let me bond with no joke like 6-7 of them until I told him about my lifestyle and having a toddler and he recommended and introduced me to the most BEAUTIFUL chocolate micro mini golden doodle. She is just the sweetest most precious puppy I’ve ever seen in my life I knew she was the one and I had to have her right then and there. I couldn’t be happier and my pup is thriving! The store was extremely clean, the workers were very attentive to all the pups and Emi was extremely patient with me. He walked me through the entire process, care and gave me a bunch of free goodies/food for my pup to be set up for success. He personally followed up to make sure she was in good health. 100/10 stars. I highly recommend this place and Emi to help guide you towards your perfect puppy as it is a lifetime commitment and you want to make sure your making the right decision for not only you but your sweet little pup! Thank you Emi and Citipups!
I bought my puppy here and the experience couldn’t have been better. They provide all the details of the breeders they come from, their license and microchipping and all the info you need to bring your puppy home. The first vet visit was also on them and she was perfectly healthy!
When I bought my dog after a week she got pneumonia but I quickly took her to the vets who work with them and they prescribed me medicine my dog was cured, they covered all the medicines and visits for my dog, I am happy that my dog is its better and they were aware of everything , they sell reasonable price not like other places that sell very expensive, this included license chip Thank you Citipups and Heart of chelsea vet!
The men here helped me get my Eski poo named Bentley. They were friendly, helpful, they asked if I needed help and brought me out two dogs. We ended up picking the Eski-poo. The men stayed late to help us with the paperwork which I appreciated bc I know it was late and they were there since 6am. I love my dog thank you so much! My family and I are happy with our new addition he was very affordable $1000. He is such a sweet, smart puppy. I love this pet shop!
These are puppy mill puppies! Do not support this nasty buisness. I have a six year old rescue poorly breed malteese mix that were sold from this place after being shipped from Louisiana. She has severe anxiety and her legs are wonky which seems common for puppies kept in these small cages. Shop from reputable breeders or adopt! A reputable breeders has procedures too ensure that their dogs does not end up neglegted or in shelters and sell healthy well breed dogs. Not sick designer mutts
Great Store! The staff was very friendly and helpful. Very professional establishment. I couldn’t be more happy with the service provided. Citipups Village is a great place to get a puppy, as they have a great selection to choose from. My kids are super happy with our Chihuahua!
I highly recommended Citipups! I got Frenchie about a month ago from them and my little girl has been doing great. She has done all the primarily check ups ( It is free if you go to their vet and they provide you emergency hotline support in case your get sick) and found no problem so far, Very healthy, adorable and friendly plus easy to train. Emi was very helpful and he helped and explained me all the details how to take care my puppy. They also provided me all the medical history and record including NYC registration and pedigree info including AKC registration form. I was convinced that this was the safest way to purchase a puppy since there are so many scammers are out there posting dogs on the web which does not even exist and ask you for deposit. They neutered my girl and I picked her up few days after she recovered from surgery! They are very responsible and also kept follow up with me since I got her and I am very pleased their service! I would definitely come back if I wanted to buy a second one.
I got my Maltipoo, Wallie, here almost 6 months ago. The staff is great and there is no pressure to buy. They are very expensive but with the pandemic, adoption options are limited and if you buy direct from a breeder, you dont get to meet and pick your dog until they are born (so you dont know if its a good match). Going to the store, you can meet and hangout with whatever pup you want and you can pick from any of them. I loved Wallie when I met him. I also met his sister, who was way too hyper for me and wouldnt have been a good fit. They will neuter the animal before you bring them home but only if you request it.... Its not required or recommended by them... Its just offered and its your choice. For the comments about their dog being sick, they have a lot of dogs and you have the same risk of illness when getting a puppy at a shelter... Potentially at a pet store more but only because all of the animals are so young and NOT vaccinated due to their age... So if one dog is sick, its likely to spread. If there is anything wrong with your pup though, they do cover it.Definely recommend this place. I have the best, cutest dog and couldnt be more Greatful to have found him.
I am so ashamed this place is in my neighborhood. One of the employees bragged to me that new puppies arrive every Friday, no reputable breeder would sell to a pet store, especially one that keeps their puppies in crates without bedding. Please do not shop here. There are so many good and honest breeders put there as well rescue dogs who need a home.
Was in there earlier today and noticed a Shiba Inu. Beautiful puppy, but it started sneezing but after sneezing it starting to have a seizure. I said something to someone who works there and they said its just a coldNOOOOOO!!! That is a full blown seizure. Also, even if it was a cold wheres the medical/vet help. This puppy is suffering and could possibly make the other puppies sick too if not properly treated.
We got our little boy, Henry, from Citipups in the west village and he has been a joy! We can only thank the staff because he came to us at 4 months old with such a great temperament, and has taken to training very quickly. You can tell the owner of the store really cares about the wellbeing of the puppies because he has called to check in with us multiple times already!
Employees were super friendly and helpful. We were not rushed when bonding with the puppy we chose. I believe they were reasonably price compared to many other puppy shops. Our labradoodle is super happy with his new home and we totally love him 💞 Also Sophie did three follow up text to see how Max has been adapting to his new home. I would definitely recommend. I also see a lot of comments about sick puppies or puppy mills and I believe those accusations are totally false. All the puppies look healthy and well taken care of. Our puppy was clean and well feed.
Would not recommend. Buyer beware. They sell lemon dogs. Purchased a frenchie from them and since day 1, I’ve spent thousands on vet bills because she has so many issues (allergies, cherry eye, kennel cough, you name it). Though I love her, I would never purchase from here again. Their dogs are also way overpriced for the quality you get. Buy directly from a breeder. Lesson learned.
They get their dogs from puppy mills, google puppy mills, this store was protested for many years and they are still in business, millions of dogs are being euthanized in shelters. Get a dog from a rescue, rescues have puppies and adults , these guys are crooks, remember anyone that sells a dog only cares about money not where the dog ends up, rescues screen people and some dogs home visits, puppies are not products, please don’t shop,,, adopt!
After visiting over 15 pet shops within a 200 mile radius, we came back here and decided on a 7-month old black brindle French Bulldog. We liked the people there, the place was clean, didn’t smell, and the location was easy to get in/out. We were treated nicely by everyone, and there was no rushing or problems with us taking our time. We got to spend time with the puppy and never felt we were being pushed. Once we finally decided to buy, we got a really great deal and the paperwork was thorough and simple. It didn’t take that long. We we walked through everything, from proper care, feeding and home habits, to getting our first local vet visit set up and all info on immunizations and pedigree. We left with the puppy which was 3 weeks ago now, and the follow up from their office on text has been very pleasant, consistent and helpful. I’ve owned 5 dogs from a child until now, and I’ve never had an experience this thorough and caring. My wife and I really appreciate the support, and most of all, our daughter loves her new Best Friend!
We purchased our Aussie collie puppy here a few months ago. He is a wonderful dog and the workers are friendly. We did a DNA test recently and learned he is a 36 percent miniature Aussie, 16 standard Aussie, 24 percent australian cattle dog,11 percent border collie, 8 percent Siberian husky and 4 percent German shepherd. We love him regardless. He did come with a kennel cough but we were reimbursed. Our pup had nightmares in his sleep and would whimper for a few months. We dont know why. He is still terribly afraid of water which is also a mystery. Overall, an ok experience. Our pup had a great temperament and is beautiful and healthy. We are glad we got him for us and his sake
Pros:1. Citipups Refunded dog.2. Citipups Refunded veterinary expenses.3. Citipups Provided certified check shortly after check bounced.Cons:1. Checked bounced. Chase manager of business accounts and my personal account stated on phone with me and them at same time that they never cancel checks due to suspicion of fraud, but Citipups manager Leo stated their chase manager stated was due to fraud suspicion due to they infrequently use checks. This also occurred after sales associate threatened no refund after I stated I needed to go home to look and come back with dog paperwork; and Sophy manager stated they would still refund with or without paperwork. We gave paperwork same day....2. French Bulldog had heart murmur: grade II, as per veterinarian we took dog to one day after finally picking him up.3. Sophy, Manager, stated physical examination is only completed by the breeders veterinarian; despite that in store I was informed dog is inspected by their veterinarian often prior to buying and after....4. Dog had small cold prior to release to us, had to wait 2 weeks prior to receiving dog before then determining dog had undiagnosed heart murmur. I was also informed dog would inspected TWO times weekly by veterinarian prior to release, yet no one ever puts a stethoscope to dog: a 1-2 minute check. I work in healthcare!5. Ultimately ended up deciding everything was too traumatic to buy a dog at this time. Horrible experience.6. --> Breeder who Citipups bought dog from has a pedigree of other dogs that have family linkage to different breeders that abused dogs - received felonies (we have screenshots of their website). This does not mean Citipups buys from puppy mills, but they should research their breeders.....In summary, Im not buying from Citipups. They stood by their refund. They have dogs that are very cute, but dont trust their veterinarian or statements that they are inspected extensively by their veterinarian by their sales associates.
One of the worst . These people are scammers. They took our 1000dollars for free. I wish i could give one dollars. I have proof of you guys taking my money. Ask your staffs, sofia, normen, emelio before calling it as fake news. Also not to mention they threatened me to call police when i asked them to give me the dog or the money back. We paid for the sick dog which stayed there for more than 2 months for treatment. (They told us that the dog has cold and will be good in few days so we paid for it)but the dog took almost 2 months. After several flights to ny just to see the dog and get the same answer that the dog is not ready we were tired and told them we dont want the dog anymore. I went there to get the dog or the money as they were not willing to give me back. They lied to us that the dog has been sold already and cant give us the dog anymore. Thats totally crazy to do something like that. have attached pic of the dog if you dont remember... I can even post the copy of receipt if you don’t remember those 1000 dollars also the receipt has a note from your employee explaining that i dont want dong anymore as its sick and refund with in 2-3days which i never received.
I purchased a puppy from Citipups about a month and a half ago and I could not be more satisfied with my experience. He is happy, healthy, and incredibly well-behaved. Our salesperson, Matt, was an absolute dream and so patient with us. My boyfriend and I took about an hour sitting with our puppy to decide if we could handle the responsibility of a new puppy. Matt let us take our time, never rushed us, and was happy to answer any questions we had. They paid for his first vet visit at Heart of Chelsea, I was so impressed with his vet that I actually switched my other dog to them recently. They also texted me the day and week after we purchased him to make sure everything was well. I HIGHLY recommend them, we are so happy they gave us a wonderful puppy ❤️
Citipups is great! this is the first time we bought a puppy from this store. He is great, 5 months old, he came with his shots and all the procedures he needed to be done completed. The Citipup staff has been in contact with us since day one making sure our puppy is doing well. The package came with visits to his Vet which are now completed and they were great as well. Overall, I am impressed with the quality of work the staff has been doing with these puppies. Our puppy was happy from the moment we walked in, he was not sad or scared which is a great sign stating that the dog is happy where he is. I will recommend this store to anyone who asks. I have also adopted dogs in the past. Great experience both ways. Every puppy needs a home regardless of, bought or adopted they all have feelings and beautiful hearts. Rudy, Alexis and Jack
Matthew at Citipups was kind and very knowledgeable about the pups there. He took his time with me and helped me to make a decision. He was super honest and super accommodating. The store is SUPER CLEAN and the staff were friendly and caring. I bought my Frenchie there and the crew has been on point with following up since I walked out with my puppy! They can be reached 24/7 and are always super sweet and patient. Holly is pretty amazing too. I think she is the owner. If your looking for a pup to add to your family I will definitely go visit Citipups. Our family is super happy with our new family member. He’s getting big and is healthy and adapting well to his new forever home. Thank you Citipups.
It’s clear this is just a business to them and if it’s not it certainly comes off that way. They are very secretive with breeder information. I was told I had to wait until after the sale to get more information. Once the sale was complete i was told I couldn’t get any of that information because breeders don’t have access to technology? What?!? My partner and I had to jump through hoops to find the breeder. Once we did they gladly handed over the information we were looking for. Secondly, our puppy was sold with multiple parasites, giardia, and terrible kennel cough. Thanks to our family vet she is doing much better and we are so in love. I truly wish I could have bought her elsewhere. We will be going to the breeder directly for our second pup.
Unfortunately I didnt buy the fur baby that I fell in love with because he was a little to pricey. but the workers are friendly & helpful. they are willing to work with you. they answer all your questions as well. and they also take down your information and will call you if the prices go down. the pet shop was very clean and organized. the fur babies had everything they needed & they all seem happy and cheerful. eventually I will go back and buy my fur baby.
I don’t even know where to start with this store. My roommate brought home a beautiful puppy from this place and she had to put the poor thing down a month later.1) the poor puppies are spayed before bought which is mutilation (a pup should not be spayed until at least 4 months old)2) the “breeder” listed on the documentation is actually a puppy mill (a reputable breeder would NEVER sell to a pet store)3) The puppy was sold with kennel cough and parasites, which later turned in to “pneumonia”. When she called citipups, the woman on the phone said “well we don’t know what kind of care the dog is in when she’s not her”. ARE YOU KIDDING ME. You think someone would pay over 3 grand and NOT take care of a dog?!4) This pneumonia ended up being distemper virus which citipups apparently had an outbreak in and didn’t inform the owners. The pup already had 2 of the shots completed on her paperwork. Makes me wonder if they even give these dogs any of the shots they say.5) The hospital in conjunction with citipups kept this poor puppy alive much longer than she should’ve been. When my roommate went to say goodbye to her dog, the pup had significant weight loss and was covered in her own diarrhea. None of this was mentioned to her. This was the hospital that citipups pays for. Coincidence they kept this dog alive for so long? I think not. Disgusting.6) As soon as the dog was put down a refund for the dog went through followed by a message that said “sorry about this. Distemper is rare. If you ever want another dog we will give tou a discount.” Absolutely heartless. These people are soulless, inhumane and cruel. Adopt or find a reputable breeder. This store and all puppy stores need to be shut down ASAP.
Citipups has me at a crossroads. To start, my experience in-store was great- the employees were accommodating and helped me find the right dog for me at a semi-reasonable price considering the cost of some of the more “designer dogs” there. However, I can’t say I believe the dogs are handled with much attention and care when they grow up in that shop. Our puppy left the store with giardia and an ear infection that was apparently unknown by citipups. Two things- yes they did cover the (expensive) costs of running the tests and medication, but the fact that you spend upwards of a few thousand dollars on some of these dogs and the store is so unaware of the diseases it may carry or infections it has is ridiculous to say the least. Overall they have a sort of monopoly on the dog scene in nyc if you aren’t adopting/rescuing from a shelter- which we tried to do for a while but it proved to be a dead end for us time after time. The way I look at it is it’s a rescue either way from this store.
I stopped by to check out the location after having been to the Chelsea one. The employee working that afternoon (Tuesday Feb/16) made me feel uncomfortable when I asked him a series of questions. His responses made me feel like I was asking dumb questions. Later, my boyfriend came into the store and the employee was more attentive to him. He gave me the impression that he was more interested in doing business with my boyfriend. Joke’s on him because I’m the one paying for the dog. I’m sharing this because the whole interaction with that employee ruined my experience at Citipups Village and I’m seriously considering taking my business elsewhere.
We could not be happier with our little Pomeranian! As a business owner, I was thoroughly impressed with this establishment. I was ESPECIALLY thrilled to see how well kept the puppies were, the cleanliness, attention to detail, and the consistent follow-ups from the staff. THANK YOU! Our baby is healthy and we love him :)
Brought my dogs here for a bath — they did a horrible job. When I picked them up, my dogs smelled like pee and cheap hospital deodorizer, they didn’t appear to be brushed at all, and one of my dogs was still partially wet. I have also never seen my dogs more stressed — they dragged me out of there and both had diarrhea on the way home. I’m confident they were not treated well. My dogs get groomed regularly so they’re used to being combed and dried (I decided to try this place because it’s so much closer to my apt but will absolutely never go back).
They sold me a dog that had kennel cough. Had to wait 3 weeks after purchasing him to get him from the store as it took 2 weeks to cure and then he had to be neutered. Then I find out at the vet once I finally pick him up that he has gerardia (parasite) and tapeworm in addition to an umbilical hernia. Had to keep my other dog (age 1) with my parents in NJ for 3 months as both parasites are highly contagious and it took this long to cure the new puppy of them. He had to go through 4 rounds of antibiotics before he was cured during which I had to commute back and forth to Chelsea about ten times. I live 35 minutes away and had to pay taxis each trip. During this time I had to scrub everything constantly and administer medicines twice a day. Stool was loose all over. Not exactly ideal when you think you are buying a healthy puppy for the sole purpose of your other puppy having a friend only to find out you need to separate them during a crucial time of bonding. While at the vet by the shop that they send you to, another Citipups customer was there with her puppy she had just purchased who was also getting treated for parasites. I paid 1K and asked for them to do something for all of the inconvenience this caused me. Had to fight to get a $100 store credit. Laughable. They did pay the vet bill but thats expected. The store manager was unsympathetic when we spoke and told me its common to get dogs with parasites. I told him I was going to write this review and he told me to go ahead. I asked the manager to have the owner call me after we spoke as I was unsatisfied with the resolution of this nightmare and he did not call. Really disappointing. Youd think theyd give me half my money back. Nope. What a terrible experience.
Worst customer service I have ever witness in whole my life. They ignore your attempts to connect with them, pretended they didnt know about a refund they owned me (I had to screenshot their texts to showed them what I was talking about), and even answer to you with an attitude that only looks bad on them. BAD BAD BAD. Never going back, will never recommend, and will always stop friends from going there.
This is the second puppy we got from Citipups. The last one as long as 15 years ago. When it was time for our new puppy we came back here.We got our Mini Walrus puppy here a couple of months ago. We have nothing then great things to say about Citipups. We go great help when we first visited them, and when we came back to pick up our puppy it was a proffesional process. We went through everything step by step, and also was on a call with the owner where she gave us some advice. In the weeks after they followed us up closely with text messages.Overall we have nothing then great things to say about Citipups. Both me and my wife have had dogs our entire life and based on our experience the work they do at Citipups are great.
First of all, adopt don’t shop. And they refused to let us see a dog on two separate occasions although they had empty pens because apparently “we can’t let you play with our dogs unless you are gonna buy it!”. Are you for real! they clearly don’t care about socializing the dogs. I also saw dogs eating their own poop in the cages more than once and I had to remind the staff to clean it up. If you wanna buy a dog at least go somewhere else
I purchased a 2 month old AKC Blue Merle Mini Aussie at Citipups Village. After I got the dog home I noticed that she had no interest in water and I tried everything to get her to drink water. I called Citipups Village right away with very high concern; I called them two days in a row. I was told by my salesman she will drink when she wants to; it is probably stress. I informed him that I did not think it was stress since she is eating like a champ and that she was very calm and happy and that she just walked into her crate with no qualms. I raised three well behaved, fully housebroken, happy healthy dogs who all lived to their ripe old age and I never had a puppy or dog not interested in water so I called another department within Citipups. I called their 24 hour emergency line only to be told make your one free appointment with our vet. I asked for the owner and I was told he was out of the country and they were unable to contact him. I then asked for top management to contact me; no one ever called Citipups showed no concern for me or the puppy they did not even call me back to see how the puppy was doing. I visited both Citipups stores for months searching for a puppy to help me with the grief that I was experiencing after my 15 year old dog passed away and Citipups knew this. I had high hopes with Citipups that I would find the right puppy but all I got from doing business with them were TWO bad experiences. My first experience was a salesman in Citipups Village took a deposit on a Husky knowing that I lived in a apartment. I did my research on Huskies as soon as I returned home only to learn that huskies are unhappy in apartments. I did ask the salesman about Huskies and apartments he told me that they do fine under those living conditions. Citipups gave me a problem returning my deposit even though I called them less then 2 hours after I gave them the deposit to let them know that I was not going to purchase the Husky. I blamed the salesman for improper information on this breed. They held my deposit and told me the only way to receive it back was to purchase another dog. My second experience was with this AKC Blue Merle Mini Aussie puppy who showed signs of improper weaning. I did end up making a appointment with Citipups vet but he did nothing and had no suggestions so at that point even though it broke my heart and I cried I had to return the puppy to Citipups after having her for 4 days. I just lost a dog and I was afraid that the puppy would become sick because I was unable to handle the water situation I was force feeding the puppy water with a eye dropper so she did not dehydrate. I called the Citipups office 2 days after I did the return to inquire about the puppy and to find out if the puppy was drinking water. They told me she would only drink water from a water bottle not a bowl. Improper weaning of a puppy would cause this because puppies are introduced to food and water in a bowl when they are properly weaned from the mother. This puppy would potty where she slept and laid in it dogs are programmed by nature not to soil where they sleep puppy mill dogs do this. This puppy was in the pet shop less then a week when I purchased her so she was not there long enough to pick up any bad habits. As for the water problem I would have had to keep this puppy in a crate for longer periods of time because a crate is the only place to attach a water bottle and I dont know how to train a puppy to drink from a bowl being I never weaned puppies. The breeder is suppose to wean the puppies properly and it looks like that did not take place. After I purchased and paid for the puppy Citipups disregarded me like yesterdays newspaper they never once contacted me; not once. This is a true story not FAKE NEWS!!!!!!!
I have visited the store on 45 Christopher st twice. Both visits the staff allowed me to view the puppy I will be buying. They allowed me to play with the pup for an hour each time. The answered all my questions and told me that if I think of any questions please call them. I also inspected their breeders which all are great. I know there are other stores, but this one on 45 Christopher street the dogs all look happy and healthy and very clean .
If possible I would give zero stars to this store for the way they use way too young puppies to make some money. When entering the shop I was devestated. The dogs are kept in narrow cages with a plastic underground. Some of them - the lucky ones - were put together so at least they could calm eachother. I was very noisy for a lot of the puppies cried also they scratched at the glas to get out. I doubt they ever leave the shop before the purchase at all. Obviously neither the staff nor the customers seem to have an understanding of dogs not being toys and of what they desperately need. They need space, company and their moms. Some of them looked way too small to be purchased yet. If you love (your) dogs please do not support this torturing and traumatising business with the needing puppies. :’-(
Christian is an amazing healthy 15 year old dog - bought here . As far as bringing home a healthy puppy we were allowed to bring him to our own vet. He was in perfect condition. Over the years he has remained consistantly healthy, perfect teeth, no staining around his eyes (hes a maltese). We were given papers from his breeders. He had only been in the store two days when we bought him and he was with two other dogs and seemed very comfortable. Our Veterinarian says he is a very strong dog and will probably outlive all of us. At 15 he is attentive, agile and active, he is smart and beautiful. So, all I can say (this store was called Puppies and Parrots when we bought the dog) thank you for giving us access to the love of our lives.
I love coming here to visit and play with the puppies. (Calms my anxiety) The staff has favoritism at times and does not assist. One Friday night I went and the employee allowed a White Middle class couple play with the puppies and said my friend and I couldn’t because we aren’t going to purchase. This was rude and racist because the couple didn’t purchase and were still granted the right. Because of this Incident, this pet shop now gives me a bad vibe, but before I LOVED IT HERE!
Very nice people and very cute puppies. We got a shiba inu from there, 2 months old and he was in very good health and the people there kept in touch with us after getting him, asking us if everything was fine and if we had any questions. Definetly a good place to get a puppy.
This place is awful. They neglect the dogs, the dogs are not cared for appropriately. If you walk by before or after hours you will see dogs trembling in the windows with no heat.We bought a dog from here and he came home with parasites and had to fight tooth and nail to even get a response from the store (that has no voicemail so you can even leave a message) after having the puppy checked out again it turned out he had a respiratory infection and needed to be treated with a nebulizer. These dogs need to be rescued. Please someone check in on them.
Love this place. I even got my dog from them and know many others that have. All their dogs are in great health and are sweet. The workers are very nice and are happy to help. They even let you spend time to get to know the dog before you choose to get them. Update my dog is now over a year old she is happy and healthy never had any health problem. My friend got a male puppy from them and he is in great health as well. We both called the breeders to ask our questions about our dogs such as parent history as size to see how big they may got both were very helpful. Both dogs have been seen by a vet who states they are both in great health. I have seen and read many people confuse citipups with Chelsea Kennel Club which they are a horrible place. I went there to see what dogs they had I left and called 311 on th the ckc because of the treatment of the animals. CITIPUPS ISNT LIKE THAT AT ALL PLEASE LOOK INTO THEM BEFORE JUDGING AND MAKE SURE ITS THE RIGHT STORE AND NOT THE CKC. I am a vet tech and know what sick and abused dogs look like and none of the dogs here show any signs of abused. If anything they are socialized with other dogs and with people. All of the dogs are very friendly and sweet. Even breeds where they are normally very shy.
I got my french bulldog here and am ashamed. This was so irresponsible. I have since adopted two more wonderful dogs from the local animal shelter. Do your homework and don’t support pet stores - whether they get their dogs from puppy mills or reputable breeders, it still doesn’t matter. Adopt don’t shop.
I got a bichon frise from this place and I spoke to Emi during this process. Definitely ask for Emi if you’re interested in a puppy. I give it three stars because the prices could be cheaper. Also, for the prices, the puppies could be in better health. My bichon frise was constantly scratching herself and had a very bad cough. She has gotten better thankfully. And flea and tick shampoos and soothing shampoos have made it better for her. Also, my puppy had a small umbilical hernia that they said they repaired, yet, when I got her, she still had the umbilical hernia. Again, for the prices, I should be getting a puppy in better health than what I got. If I would’ve had more time during the time I got my puppy, I would have definitely adopted or got a puppy from the breeder directly (after doing more research and visiting them), not from a puppy store.
For dog lovers, few opportunities could be more delightful than spending a while with a puppy of their choice. So many breeds to choose from, all well-behaved. Especially for anyone who cant own a dog of their own (a common problem in the city), knowing about this place is a godsend.
Walking in one day just wanting to look st the adorable puppies and I ended buy getting the cutest shiba ever. She has completely changed my life. And this place did such a good job with customer service, they even did normal check ups on us to see how everything was going luv it
They get their dogs from breeders, but like, not good breeders. Definitely not worth the amount of money they are charging. Edit-The owners response saddens me, after going here originally I did some investigating work by going to two of their breeders and quickly googling 2 others. They are just based on a quick google search you can find that the breeders don’t even always pass the required health and safety inspection. It’s a bare minimum requirement for the dogs health. It’s fine for you to say they are breeders because technically they are. But please folks believe me when I say this, they are not reputable. And certainly not “the best breeders in the country”
I had a very bad experience purchasing an English Bulldog from here. It happened over a month ago, but I purchased the dog at full price (because I was excited and didn’t feel like negotiating). I was told the dog needed to be neutered before I could take him home. They said he’d be able to be picked up in a few days, so when I called in a few days to go pick him up they said that they can’t give him out for another two weeks because they were waiting on him to recover from a cold before they can neuter him. I was sad to wait, but decided that it was probably done in the best interest of the dog. While waiting for the dog to recover, I decided to look over all the dog’s papers to try to find out more info on him. I wasn’t given the dog’s Breeder until after we purchased (which is part of their policy so that you don’t go purchase direct from the Breeder - at least that’s what they say), but after purchasing I decided to research the Breeder in more detail to see if they truly were ethical. Basically, I couldn’t find a single thing whatsoever online about the Breeder. It’s almost as if the Breeder wasn’t even real or it is a cover for an actual puppy mill. It was the strangest thing. After this, I sent the papers that showed the vaccines the dog had already received to a vet that I know and they confirmed that based on the info on the sheet, it looks as if the dog was already extremely sick and has had a bad case of worms. This made me extremely concerned. So I went to CitiPups to check out the dog and see how he was recovering. They brought out his file and I looked over the notes from the citipups vet. The sales rep went over the notes and said that it’s just a case of a common cold and it’ll be fine in about 2 weeks. But I looked over the page myself and saw that on the bottom of the page the vet said “not fit for sale”. That was the last straw and I knew I had to cancel the purchase and not take home the dog. They connected me with Sophie who manages payments. Sophie said they would give me a full refund, but that it would have to be done over a few days because they are only authorized to refund $1000 per day. This is strange, but I was okay with doing the refund over a few days. They refunded me 1000 plus tax but didn’t refund anything else until I called again. Even then I got the same story that they would do it over a few more days. I got mad and demanded they pay me back in full, but they said they literally aren’t able to do that because they’re “not sure they have enough money in the bank to pay me back”. What kind of business is this? My refund is going to destroy their business? Sounds extremely weird.Anyway, it’s been over a month and I am still waiting on my final refund of 1000. I tried giving them the benefit of the doubt with the refund, but it has taken far too long and I don’t think they would have actually refunded anything if I wasn’t so persistent, even though they have said they would. They are now in breach of contract since refunds are guaranteed in the contract if the dog is seen to be not fit for sale.I would stay away from this place. As mentioned, they tried to sell me a dog “not fit for sale” and then tried to hide that fact from me and then does not follow through with their promise of reimbursement unless pressured like crazy. Only rescue dogs or purchase from a reputable breeder with solid history. Avoid the mistakes I made.
Literally a retail outlet for a puppy mill.Dogs confined in tiny cages, eating each others feces and sleeping on cold slatted cage floors without any blankets or bedding. Millions of loving dogs are killed in shelters every year because they arent designer breeds. Find a shelter instead. ADOPT DONT SHOP!
Sad site to see puppies stuffed in small display cases. The workers are far from friendly and look like the bad guys from the movie Taken. Hopefully Liam Neeson shows up to rescue them. The dogs were more interested in someone giving them food than playing. The workers seemed to be making up prices for the dogs as they went along. The google review responses from the owner speak volumes about what kind of people run this place. Telling someone from the U.K. To go see a dentist. Im sure they really care for these puppies. Places like this should be shut down.
We were in NYC for the dentist and came home with a puppy!!! We happened to park in front of the Christopher St store to run an errand, saw this face in the window and knew it was meant to be...the staff was very professional and knowledgeable. They called a few days later to check on the puppy We got a great deal, a healthy happy addition to our family and its all due to Citipups! Thanx, Barb
Got a dog here. He came home with a stomach disease, they weren’t good about handling it. Would not return. Dog is a bit messed up as are 3 other friends dogs from here - food aggression, fear of humans. It’s run by salespeople not persons that care for the dog as the first concern.
Do not buy pets! My friend & I made the mistake of buying king Charles in these stores and have had so many health issues costing us a fortune. From neurological to orthopedic & gastrointestinal on going issues. They both came from Same breeder too, (La Donna) . Thank God we can afford the cost of treatments otherwise God knows what wouldve happened to these dogs. City pup does not care what happens to your dog after 30 days of purchasing & for sure do not care where they get their dogs from. They are coming from puppy mills. DO NOT BUY DOGS HERE OR ANYWHERE. PLENTY DOGS NEEDING HOMES OUT THERE. PETS STORES WILL BANNED SOON.
I went into see the pups the other day and I was appalled. This is 2018 and they should not be working with illegitimate breeders for not taking proper care of the animals. I saw animal shivering cold and scared without toys in their cages and with no padding under their feet! DEPLORABLE. Don’t buy any pets from this place and don’t support the stores products either.
The service here was horrific. We asked the employees several times for the price of a dog, and we were never given the information. When we played with one of the dogs, it broke 3 toys and the manager blamed us for it. The place is small, and the dogs are overpriced and not cared for enough. The employees only spoke in Spanish, making it very hard to communicate. I would never come here again if someone paid me a million dollars.
The owner is clearly out of his mind, telling customers to go see a dentist. Says a lot about how UN-professional this place is. Disgusting. Even the name of this place is Citipups Village PUPPYMILL and yet they still claim they dont get their dogs from the puppy mills. Absolutely unbelievable. These people should go inform themselves
DO NOT GET YOUR DOG HERE.RUN. RUN. RUN. RUN.I got my puppy, a Shihpoo, from Citipups in August. We had to put him to sleep today. He had Parvo, a disease that he could have only picked up from Citipups. He had not left our apartment once except to go to the vet, there was no way he could have picked up the virus anywhere else.We paid $1600 for our dog, $1000 for food, treats, toys, crates, play pen, puppy pads, etc, and $2000 dollars in emergency vet bills.$4600 dollars funneled into a puppy that was sick from the day we got him.Our beautiful, beautiful baby boy, gone in two months.Do not, under any circumstance, purchase your dog from citipups.
These animals are clearly not well taken care of and I have done animal rescue for 7 years. Clearly they purchase from backyard breeders and possible puppy mills in the midwest. I even over heard a customer complaining to the owner about the dog she just purchase being sick. Terrible people here!
I am from the U.K. Keeping puppies in glass cages in a shop would not be allowed in the U.K. There was a yorkie puppy that looked completely traumatised. Keeping puppies in these conditions should be banned. Anyone buying a pup from here will probably get all sorts of issues. I was so surprised that this happens in a civilised country.
One of the best pet stores Ive been to. Lots of different selections and the staff every time Im here are so helpful. They are very knowledgeable and if they dont carry what you are looking for they have a book to look up the product and then recommend the closest thing to it. Highly recommended.
I already have a problem with this place because I have looked up the breeders online that appear to be in remote or unfound locations. I have also looked up websites that mark who buys from puppy mills and they are on the list. Makes me suspicious . I shouldnt have given my money to them but I Just went to get some greenies because Im freezing and rushing to something . Taking my time out to write how rude the staff was . I was just letting him know that there greenies are 8 dollars overpriced at least from other places . He was like uhhh okay I dont price them its your responsibility as an employee of anywhere to listen to what people have to say and give respectful feedback . Im embarrassed to let anyone know I went into such a terrible place . Now I feel even worse .
I was there today when a few people showed up to inform me about just how horrific this place is ! They told me to go to a shelter and adopt a pet instead! So happy NOT to be supporting this horrific place ! PUPPIES ARE NOT PRODUCTS ! STOP PIMPING ANIMALS! Horrible place stay away. Google Puppy Mills for more information.
Alll puppy stores get dogs from breeder and puppy mills. Alll of them. THey cannot make money otherwise. A job for disgusting people. Stop buying from pet stores, adopt from a shelter or rescue. Even legit breeders are disgusting, making profit off an animal that cannot defend itself against humans. 311 the hell out of this place.
Do not support this or any other pet store. Imagine psychological trauma of being separated from your brothers and sisters and mom right after birth and being put in solitary confinement. These puppies are very stressed and very sick, they all have worms, but you wont see the sick ones behind glass, that would scare customers away.I hope in near future pet shops see the same fate as Seaworld.
For your dogs safety, DO NOT GET YOUR PUP GROOMED AT CITIPUPS.I took my dog to be groomed at citipups at 45 christopher street. When i picked her up she had large scratches on her belly and a cut on her that makes it painful to pee. I thought she was ok when I left because she was so quite, until we got home and she couldnt lay down. I believe she was given a sedative during the grooming. For your dogs safety DO NOT GET YOUR PUP GROOMED AT CITIPUPS.
Racist. I felt the workers were biased against myself and my party that came in to observe and hopefully get a chance to pet one of the puppies. Everyone that was petting the puppies in the playpens were all non-minorities. AND THE ONLY REASON WHY WE COULN’T PLAY WITH THE PUPS WERE BECAUSE WE DIDN’T INTEND TO PURCHASE AND THERE WAS A GROUP OF STUDENTS (OF COURSE, NON-MINORITY) THAT GOT TO EVEN THOUGH THEY WEREN’T LOOKING TO BUY. I left with an unsettling feeling of being looked down upon just because I was of Asian descent. Stay away. #AdoptDontShop
I give the owner and his employees 5 stars because this is the best pet shop to come buy a puppy and all tipes of dogs, Im about to bring my puppy home she is very happy and healthy, I recommend any body who looking for a pet friend please come to citipups and they have the best prices
Smallish shop full of puppies and a selection of dog toys, leads, etc. Puppies are in standard but smallish boxes/cages, including one that is adorable but far too old still be in the shop - personally Im not a fan of puppy-mill style pet shops and believe they should come from the breeder, with the pup knowing its mother and litter-mates for the first couple of months of its life
I have visited both stores, but the attention, the service, the kindness that I received here has been incredible. I went with no intention of adopting any puppy yet...but they let my daughter seek, share and feel that connectionIt was a unique experienceThanks for being so kind and helpful all of youTappan, NY

2022-02-06Great experience! This place has a lot of cute dogs. I wanted them all. But this cutie stole my heart. They let me spend time with any dog I wanted to see. They also helped me get the supplies I needed to take the dog home. Very nice and friendly staff & clean store. I have my little dog 3 weeks now, and he is so adorable. His name is COco😍. Also, if you never have a dog before, you will need to pay 99 for a NY licensed before taking the dog home. But also I got $300 discount and a free toy. Plus, if you go to a vet, they suggest you will get the first visit for free (to make sure everything is good with the dog). Thank you, guys!

2022-01-22I had never had experiences before on buying a Pet in my life, however I am so thankful to God that he put these Breeders on my way. They made all the process so easy and I felt so comfortable with them. I have my Bella for a month already and they still asking me about her and all the process needed to make sure that she is good and healthy . I recommend them 💯. Thank you for changing my life in such a positive way!

2022-03-24My family and I have been looking for a new dog after the loss of our beloved first dog Rex. We came to CitiPups and my brother instantly fell in love with this little Toy Australian Shepard puppy and we ended up taking him home. We named him skippy and so far he’s in great health and everything has been going smooth with him growing up. Both my brother and I work at vet clinics as Vet assistants/Techs so we have experience with animals. In my opinion everything seemed very professional, the staff took very good care of the animas. we were giving a feeding routine with our new pup as well as a oral deworming medication to go home with, They even give you a free exam at a vet clinic along with a phone number you can call or text at any time where they will guide you and give you tips if something is off with your new pet. The staff were all very kind! One of the employees gave my mom his personal number and told us to text him if we have any problems. Great experience!

2022-06-01During the pandemic, we struggled to find a dog and turned to citipups. We absolutely fell in love with our dog at first sight. He was our whole world.By the first year, he was diagnosed with an extremely serious condition and we did everything to try to help him.2 weeks ago, our less than 2 year old dog died from this hereditary condition. If you are looking for a dog, we highly recommend looking elsewhere so you dont have to go through what we are.

2022-05-26Fun store to stop by and cuddle some puppies. Staff are not very friendly or helpful. Cages for the puppies are small and the play areas are just a wire cage on the floor.

2022-03-31We have gotten both of our dogs here. They were amazing in everyway. They really have the cutest puppies and make the process more accessible than going to a breeder. You get to meet and connect with the dog of your choice. The team is helpful and follows up way past the purchase they really care. We took the dogs to our own vet and got the clean bills of health. Made the process seamless so thank you!

2022-04-26I love my sweet mini aussie. She always give tons of kisses and very empathetic. Also, very easy to train. She understand body language. And y’all in the reviews , talking about don’t get your puppy from here. Do you guys not know that all puppy need homes ? And shelters are a form of sale. You do pay an adoption fee correct? That’s the price of the dog. The younger they are, the more it cost, and the older they are, the cheaper they are. With that being said, get your puppy from here (:

2022-01-28The best experience! After going to various pet shops and trying to adopt from shelters I got a puppy from Citipups. The care and attention was amazing including follow up, vet visit and most importantly the cutest puppy. If you are looking to get a dog in NYC, don’t look any further.
