This is the go-to place for delivery couriers and anyone else who needs prompt, dependable service for bike repairs. Jonathan, the manager, Charlie at the front counter, and the talented mechanics are friendly and knowledgeable. Ive had three positive experiences with repairs and equipment purchases for my road bike in 6 months. Three mechanics are often on duty. The shop is well stocked with parts and bike gear.Bilingual staff speaks English and Spanish.Thank you City Bicycles for making my bike safer and more comfortable to ride!
Outstanding bicycle service and repairs every time! Charlie at the front is super friendly, explains each step, offers expert guidance, and ensures low cost. Top-notch mechanics like Rutilo fixed the back wheel and handle bar alignment and installed a phone holder on my folding bike for no charge!
Looking for a road bike, I went to pretty much all bike stores in the city two years ago, and the crew at City Bicycles was really outstanding. I was unsure about what to buy and how much to spend, so they advised to simply take my time and do more research - instead of talking me into buying a bike! Super great experience. Today they fixed up my commuter bike in no time, with great attention to detail by the mechanic and super friendly service and staff. My favorite bike store. Highly recommend!
Outstanding service and friendly vibes always at City Bicycles NYC. I had the pleasure of working with John and Charlie recently. John was very knowledgeable about what bike components would be best for me, and it felt like a long time friend was recommending me something. Charlie was there to support in anyway possible and helped me find a hard to locate part that I had lost hope on lol. All around, probably the best bike shop in Midtown. Thank you guys! Will definitely be back again
Great experience with Charlie and the City Bicycles NYC. I bought a nice single speed bike, locks, and repair kit. Charlie was very knowledgeable and incredibly friendly. I had a few parts swapped for custom pieces and the mechanic had me up and running in no time. The shop also has a large selection of top quality parts and accessories and I would not hesitate to send my friends and family there for any of their cycling needs. Happy New Bike Day for me! Thanks guys!
They are most awesome. I kinda like to think of myself as a do-it-your-selfer, shade tree mechanic. They are fine with this and always have great advice to help me out and always have the parts I need. The few times I’ve dropped a bike off here for repair the rates were not only fair but better than either of the bike stores near me in Bay Ridge Brooklyn (and their rent is probably 1/4 as much). Also I like to support my local businesses as much as possible, any time I’ve bought brake parts or bike chains from here it’s pretty much on the money the same price as online. Support your local businesses in these times.Support your local bike shop!
Went in for a brake tuneup which was fast and perfect. And then they helped me tune the position of my saddle in a way that made such a huge difference. And they were the first bike store of many that I’ve been to that weren’t condescending. They truly love biking, their small act of helping me adjust my saddle has made all the difference and I’m so happy. Thank you.
I have purchased 6 bicycles from City Bicycles over the years, so I can honestly say there is no better place to buy a bike.service is friendly and welcoming and—even when very busy—the staff is courteous and generous with time, advice and guidance. Jhonathan, the owner, will custom search and locate a bike if he doesn’t have it in stock. And he will give you value comparisons with other brands, even his competitors. Odds are he has, or can get, a better deal and value than what you’d be able to find on your own. When it came time for my daughter to get her first bike, we knew where to go. Far superior in build and design, we got a trusted brand name for just a bit more than the low-end department store brands. Another great feature: their service. Most, if not all their bikes they sell, come with complimentary service checks, just like when you lease a car. This, in addition to very low-cost maintenance rates, seals the deal.City Bicycles is the best!!
This is the best bike shop in the city, period. There are two bike stores in walking distance from where I live, but I definitely prefer these guys. Why? Because I am not an occasional bike rider. I bike more than I walk, and I like my bike to work well. This shop has the best mechanics and the best selection of bikes/parts. They have bikes in the higher end and in the lower end, so no matter what your needs, you will get the best. The owner is always in the store, so there are no screwups or bad work done, ever. The customer service is also the best-very polite, not pushy, very knowledgeable.
Fantastic shop and great staff! Burst the rear tyre of my e-bike and had to get it repaired on short notice. Was turned away by 4 other shops but these guys couldn’t have been more helpful. I even left my headphones there and they put them aside for me. 10/10 would recommend!
One of the best, most reliable and friendly shops in NYC. Charlie and his crew are not only professional, but patient, hard working and eagle-eyed. If you need anything done, don’t waste your time with other shops. They are worth every penny and stand behind their work.
This place is great! Theyre one of the few shops that I would trust to give me advice without having done any research before hand. They dont try to nickel and dime you or try to sell you on the most expensive thing. I have two very old bikes but theyre not judgy at all and will help you with any kind of bike you have.
Honest. The best. Small shops like this is what its all about.I dont live in the city but I work next door to this shop. I have been in a few times, not enough to make an impression, and Jhonatan remembers me every time.Today, I needed help with a small but tricky frozen/stuck bolt that actually turned into a warranty claim (tbd) and without me even asking, he lent me a loaner and I walked out the door while it gets sorted out. This does not happen much anymore between online shopping and exhausted shopkeepers.... A RARE FANTASTIC EXPERIENCE that should remind us all to shop locally and support our neighbors. THANK YOU. Please support this great bike store - it cant be easy in NYC.
I’ve Used them several times to get repairs and presents for family members. I find their advice is always right on point and I’ve heard them steer someone away from the most expensive equipment when it was only going to be needed for a temporary stay in NYC. They didn’t have to do that! Friendly knowledgeable staff with a lot of integrity.
HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. Unacceptable for the caliber of service you expect from any business in Manhattan. They did not greet me and basically snarled at me while talking to me. Literally told me, If you know what that problem is, you could fix it yourself. When I asked to speak to the mechanic, he quickly said something in Spanish and the mechanic soon adopted his same unprofessional attitude. Really? I almost never do reviews but, the service was so utterly abysmal I did not mind taking the time to help others know about it and make an informed decision.
Some things are definitely overpriced but it is a decent shop. If you want cheap parts that get the job done, look elsewhere. Pretty much anything you see in the store can be found cheaper either online (Amazon) or at other stores. They do have a nice selection of bikes and an in-house repair shop.
With the new NYC bike paths, biking Manhattan will become a must do for visitors. I stopped in to City Bicycles to rent a bike for the day and was completely satisfied with the service. The staff was friendly and helpful -- providing a free bike route map and directions to the Brooklyn Bridge. The bike was in good shape and I had no problems with it as I rode to Prospect Park, Central Park and the Hudson River Greenway.I highly recommended going with a bike shop rather than the street-side rentals.
Bro u are a profesional and have several years in the business, why would u have to ask me for approval of what to put on my bike when u know exactly what u are doing?? I hate when this guy does that, I’m supposed to be the one with the questions not u,.......if I do this , this will happen, if I do that, this will happen..What do u want me to do???.....No, don’t ask me, do what fits best like an honest person, people this is why we have to start learning how to deal with our own problems because when you are not knowledgeable in a certain area, you will be cheated

Your awesome Charly!!!I took my bike in and the owner Joseph took great care of me right away n put it back together for me. Finished race and actually bent one of my carbon rims n he took care of it and put my bike back in it’s suitcase and delivered it to my hotel room.Talk about going above n beyond for your customersGreat Job guys, keep up the great work n customer service

2021-01-05We went around 6/7 different stores between 5th and 9th avenue and our last stop was City Bicycles. Charlie helped us and we loved the service. We were actually planning to go check on the bikes on different stores and get the bike after couple of days but......The service of them made us buy the bike right away....They know what they are doing and they are very good at it.... i would definitely recommend this place to get parts or for rentals or service.......P.S i am in love with my bike 🤣

2019-10-24Excellent place to rent wheels in the Big Apple. Flat-bar bikes with skinny tires, well set-up for city riding - mine ran great for the two days and many miles I rode it. Rates are reasonable and flexibly applied. Best of all, John and his crew arent afraid to fly right in the face of the NYC stereotype - I found them to be friendly, genuine, and helpful. Two thumbs way up!

2016-11-21Generally awesome but horrible experience last week. brought bike in for a VERY VERY simple chain tighten, true wheel, and replace brake pads. I got the bike back and the wheel wasnt trued, waited to get this done on the spot- (theyre very good about this). Paid $40, totally worth it. 5 blocks into my ride the entire rear cog completely sheared off- every tooth sheared off. I locked my bike and had to take a cab 20 blocks then another cab to get home. Next morning I (once again) cabbed back to my bike and walked it 20 blocks back to City Bicycles- they charged me an ADDITIONAL $70 and the mechanic relentlessly argued with me that they had ZERO responsibility for this happening the night before- I told them the bike was fine for 1.5 years and suddenly it breaks when it leaves your store? He was combative so I let it go and paid the additional $70. So now Im out $120 and $50 in cabs. The mechanic also said that the chain was worn and thats why this happened- I asked why he didnt mention that when they were tightening it? No response..Jonathan wasnt around so no solution could be had...Very depressing- I really liked the place but cant trust the mechanic. P.S. The chain the mechanic replaced is skipping like mad so my bike is actually worse off than when I brought it there and out $120 + $50 in cabs..Awesome.
