Due to Covid, my fiancé and I had applied for our marriage permit online. The city Clerk was very rude and unprofessional! Didn’t even introduce himself, and he was yelling the entire time. He kept rushing us too. We were finished in 30 minutes when we were schedules for 45 minutes. He definitely had enough time and the rushing made us feel anxious. Never have I had an experience like this I was shocked!
Im waiting for my marriage certificate for 2 months. They are not responding calls or emails.

While project cupid (virtual marriage license appointments) may have been a great service in early pandemic, this office is now wildly inefficient and not opening up as the city opens up. there are no options to do any in person marriage licenses even though most of the adult NYC population is vaccinated now and we now masking works, and getting an online appointment is virtually impossible. Staff have been unhelpful and this system is wildly inefficient. GO TO NEW JERSEY OR ANOTHER NY COUNTY TO GET MARRIED if youre trying to get married in nyc right now. project cupid sucks
Showed up at 8:37am on a Tuesday to get our marriage license. Waited in line a bit for security then were seated as we awaited our number to be called. Once called it’s a quick process. Was out the door at 9:30am. Not terrible. Pleasant environment while u wait.
Himy name is is Michael Whitson , me and my future wife want to get Married , we went to the marriage license site it directed us to the Cupid site and to fill up all of the documents/ application of the process to get Married , after I paid and got the appointment password , as was understanding I suppose to set up a date with the city Klerk !!! But I see that the city hall is taking peoples money and give them nothing at all !!! Plus they are blocking people from getting married !!! I don’t know anymore what to do , and I think that I’ll take a lawyer and start a court house process of suing and publish to the people of New York not to pay anything to the city hall because all of the thing is one big fraud !!! I’m very very disappointed of the city hall of New York !!! And very disappointed that people in New York are blocking other peoples freedom And Happiness !!! Very Disappointed !!!

Been there as a wedding photographer several times for my clients. The process is pretty streamlined among 13-15 stations (to some, may seem too quick) but I recommend earlier hours, before 10 AM on a weekday. There are longer lines afterwards, especially if you also include the chapel ceremony (registration may take just 10 minutes). Obviously, the presence of lots of marrying couples takes away from a special feel but gives that good collective vibe. No professional photography is offered so bring yours. There is a specially designated area with a well illuminated photo backdrop (and a line), however, so even phone photography or amateur DSLR will do.
I was super disappointed for my marriage ceremony. Felt so rushed and unprofessional. Please take your time and be more patient as it could be the most touching and memorable moment for a new couple.
Its been over a month, I live in Michigan and still havent receive the marriage certificate, and Ive been calling them thousands of times, nobody answer the god damn phone!Update: Guess what? They put our documents on the shelf and never processed it.

First off we live out of state and got married in NYC. The process was quick. We even filed it and got our license. But we they didn’t emboss it so now our social security office won’t take it and now we have to file and pay for a certified copy. Takes 4-6 weeks to process. Not including me mailing the paper work to them and waiting for them to mail it back. SO IF YOU LIVE OUT OF STATE. MAKE SURE YOU BUY A CERTIFIED COPY THATS EMBOSSED THERE!!!!!!!!!! So now it’s costing more time and more money for something that should have been done for the first license we paid for and got.
Went through security fairly quickly. Was told that it would be 1-2 hours due to some system issues. 2 hours later, I went to inquire and found out that the issue had not been resolved and no applications could be processed.The staff didnt feel the need to convey this information to people who were waiting. To top it off, they began shutting down at 2PM, even though they are open until 3:45PM. Worst experience ever.
Got married here, it was conveniant and within a reasonable time, being there were many other couples tying the knot the same day. ALWAYS knew Id be married in Manhattan and I was... Dreams really do come true!!
Great experience! Do the form online, and show up before they open, and you will be in and out fast. Cant remember the name of the man that helped us, but he was so pleasant and efficient. All city offices should belike this! Thank you.
Horrid experience with the documents clerk, she went out of her way to be as rude as possible. She gives a bad name to everyone else in the office who are kind and try to do a good job. If you hate people so much, dont work at a government office.
The wait was very long and the clerk that took care of me was extremely rude from the beginning, if I hadn’t been there for so long and just wanted to get out I would’ve reported her because her attitude was nasty before I even sat down. Definitely not going back there again.
Worst customer service I have a few month trying to get my marriage license They mailed it to me and I never got it , and there making me do everything again and pay again
Easy peasy, getting married was a cinch and if you dont pick a day close to weekend you can get married all in an hour. The clerks, aside from security, were really nice too.
Efficient service provided by really friendly staff. They were very helpful not only the wedding itself but also with the paperwork required before and after.

We were waiting for sooo long just because a young girl from station number 2 decided to be on her phone instead of keeping the line going.
Such a helpful gentleman who I spoke to on the phone. He answered all of my questions in a very professional manner. As a out of state caller this was beyond helpful. !!!
Avoid all the headaches and hassles - just head down to the City Clerks Office. Everyone was great and the process moved along at a fairly good pace.

When calling for information, the people you speak with are very unpleasant and rude. Nothing is professional.
The people have to wait, but the process is quick.

2022-07-13So far I have only talked to two receptionsists on the phone and both people were so rude! City Hall should listen to how these operators interact with people looking for assistance... No way should the two people I have talked to should be answering phonecalls for an office.

2018-08-08My fiancee and I came here on a Wednesday and it was packed due to day being all 8s. Otherwise, the process is smooth if you have your paperwork. From security checkpoint to walking out with a Marriage Certificate, it took us two hours.A lifetime experience and all officials were nice and friendly.

2017-06-17I came here to get a domestic partnership. We had to wait about 20 minutes to get in (and go through the security scan and metal detector). The inside area is very large.Once we were inside we gave a clerk our IDs and they gave us a number. We waited another 20 minutes to get called and then sat with another clerk who charged our credit card, and processed our domestic partnership. Everyone was friendly and the process was pretty easy.I felt a little strange to be with all the other couples. And the gift store was a little bit cheesy. But overall a very pleasant and nice experience. Consider me happily domestically partnered!

2021-02-24Visit was fast and everyone was really helpful. They take lunch from 1-2. The door will close at 12:50 and a line forms in the hallway so time yourself accordingly.

2018-08-15We had a great experience! It was a little difficult to figure out the process from the website - we werent sure how long of a wait to expect. But, we arrived by 8:45 and were finished by 10:00, including a few photos after the ceremony. The office runs very efficiently and all the staff were friendly.

2021-11-18No responses to email contact but was able to get answers to my questions via call. Living in Orlando Florida but was married in New York and the online website only allows requests for copies of Marriage Certificates via mail. mailing out the fees and requested copies of documents today. Hopefully it all works out. UPDATE: MAILED OUT VIA CERTIFIED MAIL- TRACKING CONFIRMS DELEVERED ON 11/4/21 4:19 pm- AS OF TODAY NO RESPONSE, NO DOCUMENTS RECEIVED, MONEY ORDER SENT STILL SHOWS OUTSTANDING....

2021-08-05Incredibly rude. I have emailed and called numerous times since 2020 to see what I need to obtain my mother’s marriage certificate (she lives abroad and needs it for immigration purposes) and every time I called, NO ONE was able to tell me what I needed. Every time I’d call, they would say “I don’t know”, “Just look at the website” or “just email them”. I have emailed and NO ONE has responded. I sent the form to request the marriage certificate along with documentation through mail with proof as to why I need it along with documentation that proves that I’m the daughter (since no one was able to tell me EXACTLY what I needed) and my request got rejected. I went in person with all documentation that proves why I need the marriage certificate for my mother and they didn’t even bother to listen to me. They kept interrupting me and didn’t even look at the documents that I had with me as proof. They just kept handing me the same paper over and over again and were clearly in a rush to get me out of there. They were very unprofessional, unresponsive and utterly unhelpful with no willingness to help me solve this issue. I understand that I need something written from my mother authorizing me to get the marriage certificate but WHY WAS NO ONE ABLE TO TELL ME THAT BEFORE OVER THE PHONE? I have been calling and asking for information for over SIX MONTHS! I am dealing with a time sensitive immigration process with my mother and they were unable to work something out with me.*****EDIT***** : I added pictures that shows that they handed me the same exact document three times and didn’t even realize it because they were in such a rush to get me out of there. The other picture is to show that they didn’t even want to listen to what I had to say and just handed me the form to request the marriage certificate although I already had that filled out.
