CITY ROOMS NYC Chelsea in New York
You will get what you pay for. It was an okay stay because I did not feel rested. I kept waking up by the loud noises. I did not like how you hear everything. The walls were thin and loud bangs were constant all night. The staff, location and the bed/room were good, but the loud noises really bothered me all night. I am also not the type to put on ear buds (complimentary in the room) because I want to be able to hear my alarm. I also believe that even if I put on my ear buds, the door opening and shutting noises and other noises through the thin walls would still be heard.
The place is not worth the money paid for it. It is a hostel charging a 3 STAR HOTEL PRICE. We paid $170/night for a room with queen size bed that had no ensuite bathroom. Bathrooms are shared with other guests. There are no elevators or bell boys to carry your luggage. It did not look like a place where families or couples would feel comfortable to stay.
My GF and I stayed 13 days at this hostel. It was the best choice we made, actually it was the best hostel we went to. They’re more than a hostel. The place is very clean and the bathroom was always very clean. The room is comfortable and the bed sheets are changed each two days and every day they take off the trash. The location is perfect, near Penn station and there is a Seven-Eleven next to the hostel, so you can get food anytime you want. The owners, Chris and Lea, are very friendly and they’re always happy to help. At night you can count on John and Bow (He’s a very small and beautiful dog) and at weekdays there is Nick. Everyone was nice and very helpful. We loved NYC and we’re sure they have part on it for they agreeable place. The point is if you ask me if I would stay there again, definitely I would. I strongly recommend.
So I got to the place pretty late at night and the female receptionist that night was super nice! She helped us with our luggages up the flight of stairs. We had 4 super heavy luggages. She even offered to let us store our luggage after check-out. The staff the following day wasnt as friendly. The dudes didnt even offer to help my mom and I with ANY of the luggages. The rooms were okay for its price. Space isnt a thing and the air-conditioning was noisy all nite long, but otherwise, the hotel was alright.
This is a hostel, not a hotel with COMMUNAL BATHROOM AND SHOWER. Not at all the experience I wanted and wish I’d seen this somewhere on their listing. The room (barely big enough for a bed) doesn’t even have a tv but you couldn’t watch it anyway because your window faces a busy street with horns blowing all night, tour buses that stop right outside, and emergency vehicles with sirens ALL NIGHT LONG. The air unit blows cool air and is aimed at the top of your head all night, so expect to feel warm while you try and sleep. The staff says it’s office is 24 hours for water etc but one night the doors to the office were closed while staff socialized behind it so I couldn’t even get a glass of water before bed.On the upside, it is walkable to all the manhattan sites and close to the subway.
I had a room facing the avenue and it felt like the cars were driving in the room. Maybe if you book here, make sure you get a room with window facing the inner court, though Im not sure how much better it is. The AC was really old and kind of loud too. The mattress was rather hard. Its clean, staff is nice and forthcoming.
I really enjoyed my stay..even though the room was small, the bed was comfortable...never stayed at a hotel, with shared bathroom..The bathroom and showers were clean...no T.V. at this location..which was ok, trip wasnt about TV, but to enjoy the city!! The staff were super,nice..kept our bags secured even after checkout.!!
Its nice and clean quiet as anywhere in manhattan. be advised bathrooms and showers are shared between all the rooms on a floor and rooms have no tv, but you do get a sink and a refrigerator. If the bathroom situation isnt a put off, then its nice and youll have a nice stay. no breakfast but there is free coffee in the morning and water and tea available all day.
Heat was poor in room. There was no washcloths. Soap in rooms or in showers. Bathrooms very very small and shared with other guests. Showers had other peoples hygiene left in them. Towels on the floor in front of shower. No breakfast. No Tv or microwave in room. Loud outside window. No elevator. No hot water for shower in evening. The only thing good was the lady at the front desk was nice. Would never come back here. Beware.
A wonderful price for the location, walking distance to Times Square, Penn Station, or even the Met if youre adventurous. The room was quite small, but very clean--it felt cozy rather than claustrophobic. No breakfast, but good coffee. The owners took time to chat and help us figure out how to navigate the city. We will definitely stay here again if were ever back in NYC.
Excellent place to be !! we have spent a wonderful time in nyc city room last yea in august for our honey moon road trip ! excellent welcome from the team of this hotel !excellent welcome from the team of this hotel! when we arrived we were waiting for a bottle of champagne with a small message of congratulationsI recommend to anyone
Excellent location in the city (near two subway stations), friendly and accomidating staff, clean rooms, design of building and rooms was really neat, had some nice amenities like free coffee/tea and earplugs, really really safe place too (front door locks, each room has several locks). I highly recommend this place
Worst customer service , just dont go by their ad and but go through every detail, They dont explicitly tell they are like dorms but place the ads under hotels which they are not They HAVE BATHROOMS SHARED WITH OTHER ROOMS WHICH THEY DONT ADVERSTISE BUT HIDDEN IN FINE PRINT. They are in it just to make money nothing else . For same price you will get better deals in NYC, just search a bit. I have gone thorough terrible experience with their staff. Dont book it. ALL 5 stars are looking like paid reviews to me....
Very good hostel, central, clean and friendly staff. Towels are cleaned and changed every day. They offer coffee in the morning as well as tea, water and hot chocolate. Although the bathroom is shared, it is not an impediment, there are 2 showers and 2 toilets per floor. Almost all places to visit are close by, maximum 20 minutes walk, including Times Square, Chelsea Market, Broadway, Madison Square Garden, musical area, 6th and 7th avenues and various Rooftops. The room is a bit small and at 7-8 in the morning there is a bit of noise. They leave you complimentary earplugs in case you need them.
I spent one night here with my girlfriend and was very satisfied. Since we arrived by train via Penn Station, the location was perfect for us. You are close enough to everything but still not in the middle of tourism stress. For 1-2 nights, City Rooms are the place to be for budget travelers. The rooms and shared bathrooms were clean and the beds cozy. The room rooms are of course very small and reduced to the essentials. But you do not need more. But they are decorated and decorated with creativity and understanding. If you have a room facing the 8th Avenue, you have to expect that you hear something. We were out all day, tired in the evening and sleeping soundly. However, people with light sleep may have problems with it, even if the hotel kindly interprets ear plugs. The staff was very friendly and we have nothing to complain about. Right next to the hotel there is a 7/11 supermarket. In the neighborhood there are many interesting restaurants within walking distance. My recommendation is the Pastai and the Fonda in the 9th Av.Maybe we will come back to this nice little hotel.
Very well located, small room, but well placed, all in perfect condition and above all very clean, the same for the bathroom that is shared, is very well attended, there is no breakfast but they offer for coffee or tea without charge, the price is ok to be very well located
Quality excellent price, very well located, and offer exactly what they offer, neither more nor less, all correct, highlight the location, very close to penn station just 2 min walk, as a negative point would say that the room is small with just room for suitcases and two people.

2022-01-02The management of this place is extremely unprofessional. The rooms are listed on Airbnb. When we checked in, they demanded us to pay an arbitrary amount for taxes and fees, which is quite standard for NYC hotels. However, they did not mention this on their listing or informed us prior to check-in. When we tried to explain that any taxes to be paid at check in should be clearly stated in the listing prior to booking, they started to argue and curse us out lol super unprofessional. They immediately modified the listing to avoid facing consequences with Airbnb and even tried to kick us out of the building on a winter day.The place is located on a sketchy block. There is only one tiny bathroom shared with a bunch of other people, which is not clearly described in the listing either. There are better places. Avoid this!

2017-10-09Be warned, this is a hostel type hotel, as such you will have shared bathroom and showers. With that said, the place was very nice, staff was friendly and WiFi was solid and fast. The price is very good compared to standard hotels, but as I said, you was to share some stuff. There are 2 bathrooms and showers per floors (about 8 bedrooms) and are all very clean, albeit small (there was one bathroom I couldnt us since it was so small).Rooms look nice and have AC, but can be very small. My road bike barely fit. As a place to sleep its nice, but dont expect to do much in your room.

2017-11-28Did not stay, but visited the hostel. Staff was courteous and facilities looked clean, though quite tight. Note: Ive never stayed at a hostel, so I have no basis for comparison. What turned me off was that the staff specifically mentioned the no-smoking policy, but it was quite evident that other guests had been (or were still) smoking, both cigarettes and pot. I dont judge people who smoke, but I hate the smell (especially pot). If you dont mind it, this seems a clean-enough, affordable option in an expensive city. 24hr 7-Eleven right outside is a convenience.

2019-01-11I stayed at City rooms for two nights on January. The place is wonderfully located a few minutes walking distance to Penn station. It was super easy to walk to Broadway, the main parks, Times Square and the main metro lines. We were greeted with much courtesy and kindness, and the reception is open 24/7. Coffee and tea are always ready for you, as well as fresh water. The rooms are small and comfortable, very well suited to fight the cold. Showers and toilets are shared in common with other guests and were always clean and never smelly. I would recommend it greatly!

2018-12-15So Ive read reviews and some people were complaining about this place. My experience was great. Sure the room was tiny and the bathrooms are shared. Well, youre in Chelsea, in the middle of Manhattan, so what did you expect? The value for money was great. If you want extra comfort, look elsewhere (Like a hotel room that would cost at least 2-3 times as much). But if you just need a clean and tidy place to sleep at night while hanging around the whole day in Manhattan, then this place is perfect. The location is also great, very close two subway station and Penn station. From the latter you can easily get to both Newark and JFK airports. The only comment that I have is that the place is not very recognizable from outside. Its just a regular door with a tag that say city rooms not very visible. Its not an issue when you go back but the first time it took me a little while to find it. This is just a minor thing but I suggest to go by address number to find the place.

2018-10-17Cool Hotel. Small but nice rooms. Everything is super clean. Lot of noise, but they provide with some ear things. They only change the towels every 2 days, but was enough for me and my girlfriend. Free coffee in the morning, really tasty. I would come back.

2015-12-14This place is amazing value! The room is only small, but everything is spotlessly clean. The shared showers and toilets are also spotless. For the price (half the price of anywhere else near here) I cant recommend it enough! The staff were really nice and really friendly!

2019-03-28Great place to stay for the price. Bathrooms and rooms were clean and staff was really helpful. Location is close by to Penn Station which is a plus, but that means there is lots of traffic and noise near the hotel. This also makes getting Uber/Lyft rides a bit difficult and time consuming. Also, while the bathrooms are clean, the toilets are in separate bathrooms than the showers and they are extremely small. Something to keep in mind. The room I stayed at (small bunk bed) did have a fridge which was fantastic. Would recommend this place if you want a cheap clean place to stay in Manhattan.

2017-03-26Nice hotel/ hostel at the heart of NYC. Therefore prices are quiet good. I had the pleasure and booked it before they opened and payed about 70USD per Person. Which seamed very reasonable for this city location. Anyway. Hotel was super clean and of course brand new interior. But it was super small and bathroom where shared. I found it very good that we had a own sink in the room. Staff was very friendly.
