City Winery in other cities:
Awesome music venue that is also serving wine and small bites expands vertically. While a frequent visitor of the main room and tap room, this was the first time at the new Loft. An attractive room with high ceilings and mostly great sight lines at the stage. We listened to an awesome concert performed by Ana Popovic one of the best female blues-rock guitarists (Joe Bonamassa thinks so too). I always liked the on-tap wines which are better than what other places serve by the glass. Ms. Popovic fearless solos and seductive rhythms had the room in awe. I was less in awe by the sub-par service but this will probably get better over time. The sound people from downstairs should probably help out the technician upstairs but I didnt mind the roadhouse sound with Anas playing style. Overall a fantastic and memorable musical performance made possible by the talented people at Michael Dorfs City Winery.
While the offerings are on the pricey side, I thoroughly enjoyed the Wine on Tap concept and found several wines I enjoyed from their selection. Namely the Grenache, Pinot Noir & Merlot from the list pictured.Wasnt too fond of the service.. every kween working there appeared to be giving my friend & I the stank-eye for no apparent reason. And while service was fast, no one seemed too happy to serve me. 🤷♀️Didnt try any food this time, but would be game to go back and give this place another shot!
We were just there to see Bob Mould and the ambiance cant be beat (plus he is everything ❤). It was intimate and very cozy...perhaps too cozy. Everyone is packed in like sardines. Yes, thats typical in the city, but it was really uncomfortable. We were seated at a table clearly meant for 2 with another couple and our backs to the stage...so your trying to watch a show AND eat which is really not possible. We ended up turning our chairs around during an intermission which worked out better. Turning around here and there for bites of food was better than missing the entertainment. The food was tasty though. $20 for a personal sized Flatbread Pizza, but its the city so inflated prices are to be expected. We did not attempt using the restroom until after the show was over. The best way I can describe the struggle is to imagine you have the window seat on an airplane and have to get up. Your average movie theater or MSG is easier to navigate. The idea of this place is really awesome. You just need to make more room for people so we are comfortable and have breathing room. Perhaps sell less tickets. I KNOW, LESS PROFITS! How dare I?
I didnt even know this place existed. My girlfriend and I went there for a live music event and brunch, and we really enjoyed the experience. The staff was very nice; the food was ok. But overall, the event was awesome! Our waiter, Brian, was very attentive and cordial. He even took time after the event to give us a personalized tour of the winery. That was cool! I can tell he really enjoys his job and is proud of what he does. Thanks Brian for enhancing our first visit at the City Winery! Definitely going back.
Love this place!! Such a good spot if you want a relaxing evening of incredible music with good food/wine. And you can sit the whole time which is amazing! Tonight we had Lucas as our server and he was fantastic! We’ve seen Rhett Miller, Band of Heathens, Reckless Kelly and some other great bands... do it up!
Its a huge club. The acoustics were great from where we were sitting, which was right on the left side of the stage. There is no wait staff during the performance, which is just important for you to know ahead of time. Because it is a large club and not a theater, the floor is flat which makes me question if the people seated further back can see the performer. My husband and I did enjoy ourselves there. I would definitely go back.
This is a fantastic place to see your favorite artists perform. No matter where you are sitting you are right up by the stage. The seats could be more comfortable and the tables a little larger, but we enjoyed the venue quite a lot. The sound is perfect and the setting is intimate. Like I said the perfect place to see your favorite musicians perform
Here for a Reckless Kelly concert and could not be happier! Every seat in the house is a great view of the band. We even switched our seats and the venue was so accommodating! The wines on tap are delicious and the service was excellent! (Special thanks to Lucas!) highly recommend for a unique date night or just a fun night with the girls! Can’t wait to come back
Great food, great drinks, and great service. Our server, Brian, was awesome. We ended up getting the magnum House Rose and hanging out for wayyyy longer than we expected. He was attentive in the least overbearing way and so much fun. GREAT SPOT FOR BRUNCH. Also there was live jazz.
This wast first time at the city winery and it was beyond my expectations. I was assuming it would be a larger winery with most much attention to the guests. Much to my surprise the service was phenomenal. Our waiter Brian was very friendly and accommodating to all our needs. I would definitely come back!
A friend and I went here after playing in the Color Factory, and it was the best decision. It was around 4 in the evening. Not packed at all, and we made it for happy hour! The staff was very nice, friendly, and subtly attentive. Our waitress kept our energy up the whole time. We got the spinach dip and marguerite flatbread. Both were amazing. Neither too greasy or oily, or heavy feeling. It wasnt a skimpy portion either. Big enough to share or enjoy alone. I didnt get anything to drink. My friend, however, got a white wine, and she was happy. I love the urban cabin feel (if thats a thing) and the high top communal tables. Definitely worth a visit if youre in the area.
This venue was awesome!!! I was planning to see Haley Reinhart at the loft for my birthday and I realized the day before that I accidentally bought the meet and greet only ticket and not a ticket to the actual show. Haley is one of my favorite singers and I saw the show was sold out at that point so I was really worried I wouldnt get in. The manager, John, and one of the workers, Jordan, accommodated me and allowed me to exchange my meet and greet only ticket for a ticket to the show!!! They also allowed me to use store credit on food when I got there, as I had overpaid for the tickets. The venue even got me a free round of drinks for my birthday!!! Was so pleased with my experience here and would definitely go back!
I had lunch at City Winery at Pier 26 with my girlfriend and we had such a great time! It’s right on the water with such great atmosphere.Wine and drinks (Agave Maria!!) were on point and food amazing! Not to mention service which was extremely accommodating - shout out to my boy Brian who took really good care of us!
My mom got me tickets see Ron Pope for my birthday. She went online to get tickets right when they went on sale to get good seats. She paid extra for the VIP. There was nothing VIP about them. First the seating chart that we picked from said we were right at the railing all the way over to the right. When we got there they sat us at a table in the back corner next to a pole. The table was super small and they sat us with a couple we didnt know. If we wanted to eat there was not room. I could not see a thing so I had to stand over in the corner to see. Our waiter was great! But I will NEVER see a show here again.
This restaurant/concert hall is pretty cool. The staffs are friendly and helpful. The bartender was super knowledgeable on every drink know menu. The food didnt really look good but it tasted yummy. I suggest getting the pulled pork tacos, grilled steak with heirloom tomatoes and the finger foods. Overall great experience and concept.
The new Loft venue space is terrific, but the service is sub par at best. We ended up getting BOTH rounds of drinks on our own at the bar. We waited over an hour to place a dinner order, and then another 45 minutes for the food. Needless to say, our bill never came either. The original venue set the bar very high from a service perspective. This new intimate spot has a steep hill to climb.
Awesome!!My friends and I attended Disney Night here and had such a great time. The music was just as advertised. It was easy to get drinks as the bar service was also really great. The only downside was waiting about an hour on the line to get in but it made sense since it was a sold out event.I’ll definitelt be going back!
My husband and I attended the Lee Camp show at the Loft last night. The ambience was wonderful and the show started right on time. Our server took our bottle order and asked if we were going to order food. I said I would in a bit. Well, he never returned to take our food order or see how we were doing. The show began at 7:30, so I put my card up on the bottle to show that I would like to order something else. I really wanted to try those crab fritters but he never came until the end of the show to give us our check. Very disappointing. Won’t be back.
Very nice and chill vibe in this City Winery! This venue is so good, the musicians are amazing too!Walking inside, the space in beautiful. There is a long, elegant bar as well as cool window tables. This place is unpretentious they offer a great selection of wines and cool hip fare! City Winery has lots of comedians and musicians on the calendar, so I plan to return soon!
Im actually surprised at the ratings this location has, I will admit the hostess up front arent the friendliest nor do I think they do a very good job of greeting but my experience wasnt all too bad.My waiter was great, consistently checked up and made sure everything was to our liking. Mind you it was a crowded Friday night in the patio area. He made suggestions and assurance of our choices.Ordered the sampler plate and for appetizers it was filling and big enough to share with everyone. The crab cakes were not up to standard though. Over seasoned and mushy. The bbq chicken was sweet and tangy just the way it was meant to be.The blended margaritas were on hit and happy hour is always the best time.
City Winery is a fantastic music venue. It also has great food, wine, and servers. I’m currently at a concert and am having great service from Brian. He’s super friendly, helped me decide between a few entrees, and is providing quick service. Also, I highly recommend the seats on the left side facing the stage that have a booth as a back!
Great artists performed tonight but the service was really lacking. Its a seat yourself kind of venue but that leaves the servers at a disadvantage because its hard to tell when new people come in. I waited 10 minutes at my table without being greeted. Luckily water was preset so I could have some of that while I waited. I finally managed to flag down a woman who appeared to be a manager, I asked for a menu and very quickly ordered. The wine on tap was very nice but my grilled octopus was atrocious. hard as a rock, I couldnt even dream of cutting through it with the butter knife I had. I asked to send it back and had it replaced with a lovely vegan risotto. Also, the main (Antigone Rising) had some very strange technical difficulties at the beginning of their set. It might be helpful to have more than just the one sound man when things like that go down. The band dealt with it great and kept the music going as much as they could but the poor sound guy was running around the venue like crazy tying to troubleshoot the issue. It was finally resolved, but started the concert off a bit rocky.
Went to the Ron Pope concert and didn’t realize it was going to be full service dinner. We had Brian as our server. He was the best!!! Super attentive, took our orders quickly, gave reccos and took care of us when we didn’t love one of our dishes. Highly recommend City Winery and hope you get Brian!
As a venue it is great! Great views of the stage and an awsome sound quality. Food and drink was great and to be honest VERY reasonable for NYC. Only complaint tables are way way too small to eat basically they have 4 seats at 2 seat table just not big enough... I would definitely go back! We saw Ron Pope and he really is an amazing entertainer/musician. My wife and i would like to go back we were in the main venue. We would like to see what show is like in The Loft great time great place. Also if I may ...the Staff was amazing all the servers we very nice and mindful of noise and do their best not to get in the line of sight of the show... a tuff job but they do it well 👍... cheers🍷
The Loft is an interesting experience & a bit different than the larger space downstairs. Plenty of signage to help you find the place with a separate entrance. Staff is very welcoming, seat you & help you get acclimated expeditiously. Menu is fairly similar to rest of venue. Obviously pushing the wine, kind of limited on the beer side, one pilsener & one ale on tap, couple bottles & cider in a can. Service is attentive.
2nd time going to City Winery and a fantastic experience both times. Excellent venue for live music, great service and the staff is amazing. Incredible wine selection and food. The wait staff is very knowledgeable about great wine/food pairings. Atmosphere is also very nice. In the main stage room, even given its large size, it is a warm and inviting space. Highly recommend!!
Attended the Graham Parker show at City Winery NYC last night. Arrived early to eat dinner. My server was Roy who did an excellent job, taking my order letting me know what dinner specials were available that night and answering any questions I had. I Decided to get the burger . Roy continued the rest of the night checking to make sure I was able to order anything else I wanted. The burger was great, just the way I ordered it. The City Winery is a great place to see a show, very intimate, friendly people and staff. I always recommend it to my friends. I had a great time and I am looking forward to my next show there.
They book great people here; the musical entertainment is amazing. The food is also good, and there are good, if somewhat overpriced, wine choices. The thing that kills it as a venue is City Winerys insanely annoying business model of putting 4 people at a 2-top...then 16 people at 4 2-tops pushed together. So youre guaranteed to have strangers sitting in your lap, and if youre really lucky (and I seem to be an awful lot) they will then talk through the entire set. The service is hit or miss; sometimes we get pleasant servers who really try to enhance the evening, and other times we get impatient, clueless, hassled folks. Upshot: dont go unless you really, really love the main act, and you dont mind listening to the next table (inches away) catch up with each other while you strain to listen to the music.
Been here many times in the past but not the new loft. Bought standing room tickets months before the event with friends of mine who bought their own standing room tickets. We figured we would hang together for a nice intimate show. 2 days before the event, tripped upon info that there are no standing room tickets so I called the venue. Person there suggested I buy some of the straggler seats that were still for sale so I could be guaranteed a seat as he had no idea what to make of my standing room seats I was sold. My friends and I made other plans since we had freed up that Friday night and now were werent even guaranteed to sit together. Management contacted me as follow up and said they had reserved good seats for standing room folks but had no explanation as to why I was never proactively contacted about this nor why the people on duty when I called had no idea. I told management we were not attending and for them to make the tickets available to someone else. Venue refuses to refund my tickets despite this epic communication failure on their part and the fact that the product I purchased had been switched. sooooo many places to go in NYC, City Winery wont be one of them.
We love coming to City Winery for the food, wine and amazing artists they get. This time in particular our server Brian was extremely attentive and enthusiastic. He made our experience very pleasant. It was refreshing to have a server who enjoyed helping his customers and enjoyed his job.
I attended the “Your Middle School Dance” event at the Loft. It was so much fun!! I would attend that DJs event over and over... just as long as they aren’t hosted here. The venue staff was the most unorganized group I’ve seen in NYC. Not to mention the drink prices are high for the area. All of that deserves four stars in my eyes, but this venue lost an entire star from me because of the TERRIBLE bar tender ladies that worked the night I went. I wish I would’ve gotten their names to formally complain but I tried to tune them out. Both brunette and white, middle aged women, one very tall and one average height. Super slow, VERY rude to multiple people, and kept increasing the drink prices as the night went on so they could pocket the extra money. You could tell everyone at the event was immediately annoyed to have to get a drink from these two crazies. If it weren’t for their disloyalty to their employer, the disrespect for their customers, and the obvious notion that they would rather be any where else... The Loft would’ve received 4 stars from me.
My first experience with City Winery was this past Thursday. I was there to see the wonderful Glenn Tilbrook of Squeeze fame. The show started at 8 but we arrived @ 6 because we wanted to have dinner beforehand. I loved the place as soon as I walked in. It seemed like a very well organized place. The atmosphere is very inviting and cozy. I would highly suggest to NOT get a square table seat. They seem very cramped. I was on a bar stool next to the staircase on one of those round tables. Excellent view with a lot of freedom. As a patron on her way to the bathroom said, You guys have the best seats in the house! The food menu for concert nights isnt very big. Just a few scattered items. I started out with the City Winery Cabernet which was so smooth and fantastic. Bit on the expensive side, though. They had someone going around with samples of other house made wines. They were great as well. The regular bar drinks are modestly priced and were all great. Had the Pan Fried Chicken, buffalo mozzarella flat bread and tried a piece of steak that my brother had. Everything was so satisfyingly delicious. Everything came out very fast as well. Some of the servers didnt seem to quite know what they were doing and/or looked like they didnt even want to be there. The service was fast and attentive nonetheless. The sound is spot on. The bathrooms are nice and clean. The slanted sink is very weird. Great people, great food, great drinks and great music. Cant ask for a better time than that! I cant wait to go back to City Winery! Lastly, go with a fat wallet. Itll be half empty by the time you leave. In my opinion, so worth it!
Service was very bad. Impossible to get the servers attention to order a second drink in the Barrel Room or to get our check. Went to a concert and again bad service and rude staff. First drink arrived when the show was half over, second one during the end of the encore. Wine was awful. The stage background with the barrels protruding from the wall was brightly spotlit and was an ugly distraction from the performer. Seats are cramped and face sideways from the stage so it was awkward to see the performance. Sound was very badly mixed. Concert lasted just over an hour for $65 ticket price.
First time at the Loft venue and it was lovely. We started with a few glasses of wine and a snack (duck tacos) downstairs before the doors opened for Upstate. Autumn, our server, was sweet, quick, and fun. 100% recommend a visit to this space with its awesome acoustics and festive yet relaxed environment!
First time here came to see Ron Pope- completely blown away by the amazing atmosphere, food and the staff! Everyone was so kind and caring. Our server Brian especially helped make our first experience absolutely wonderful! Would highly recommend if you’re in the area and want a neat lil dining experience!
I absolutely love coming to City Winery! The service is always excellent (Lamar is the best server!) and the music is always just what I need to heal and feed my soul. I’ve enjoyed every meal I have had here and I’m really looking forward to the new location! Can’t wait. Viva City Winery! 🍷
My husband’s band performed there at the new area, THE LOFT,and packed the house- receiving a standing ovation at the end of the show!!!!I and my guest ordered food that we NEVER received, other friends complained that they ordered drinks that took them 20mins. to order and received them 10mins. before the end of the show!!!!When I informed a waitress that it had been 20minutes since we’d placed our food order andthe show was almost over and we STILL HAD NOT gotten our food, she gave me a nasty attitude of Oh well! We’ll just take it off the bill!!!!Not an apology, nothing! Then the band had to use the stairs (2 flights) to get their gear out of the room! Drums and amps! They don’t provide back line!!!I am a professional musician and perform all over the world and I don’t EVER want to perform there under those circumstances! And I have a band that City Winery would make serious dollars booking there!!!But ONLY if we’re booked for the main room , on the ground floor!!!!! Better vibe, better sound system and crew, better load in and load out!!!! Better all the way around. If the staff is not large enough, or polite enough to cater 65 people , then they should NOT have a menu and attempt to serve food! How many orders can they cancel and stay in business????City Winery- THE LOFT...NO THANKS!
The only reason I havent given this place a 5 star is because I have only gone for dinner and wine. I really loved the food here. Right off the bat, delicious. We had a rather large group and opted to order a few of everything they had on the menu. The meatballs with manchego cheese were perfectly prepared with rich flavor, as was every other appetizer. For the main course I had the fish special which has more ingredients than I can remember but it was extremely well balanced, the fish was perfectly cooked and maintained its full flavor. The plating was amazing and I remember the sauce as a smooth combination of light textures, rich flavors, and sweet aroma. The wines were on another level, each one delicious and unique as the next. I had no idea all the wines were made there. Oddly enough we were sitting in the wine room with all the machinery. It was really cool and added to the atmosphere.
I love the intimate ambiance. You can have a conversation without having to scream over the music and crowd noise. My server, Rey, was very attentive and answered any questions I had about the menu. I definitely recommend coming to City Winery either for a show, for a date, or for after work drinks.
Review for their new addition The Loft. The entrance is the door to the far LEFT if you are facing the City Winery building (see pic). A cozy venue upstairs. Equipped with its own bar top in the corner (see pic). The stage is well-placed for guests at any table to see. Great food. Good selection of wine. Great service, although they were slightly understaffed. Prices higher than par. Portions par.
Acoustically, City Winery is one of the best of the NYC boroughs vast and sundry small performance venues. High quality sound enhances the performances by skilled musicians (obviously, and it needs to be said). The meals at the Barrel Room, the adjoining restaurant, are terrific. The staff there, and those on the concert floor and behind the bar, are really good. I need to call out the amazing person who manages the floor and, to my knowledge, events. Randall Coats and his leadership, focus, and welcoming spirit enhance every performance Ive attended which, as a Vinofile, there have been many. Here is where my review may be different than those by many people who show up here: come to City Winery to see a concert and have a drink and go to Barrel Room to have dinner. Period. Full stop.Do not seek a dinner theatre experience when you buy tickets for a concert. Eat dinner first.Show respect for the musicians by not chomping food, clanking utensils, talking with people about your dinner, and detracting from not only your experience as a concert attendees but that of the audience members who are seated near you. While multisensory experiences are a modern thing, and they are indeed wonderful, people who expect to have a complete restaurant experience while professional musicians are performing 50 feet away from the table are bound to be disappointed. And their priorities are off.Come for the concert and a glass or two of wine or your favorite cocktail. Eat dinner before you arrive.THAT is how the experience at City Winery is best done.
Saw a Macy Gray concert here and was really impressed. We actually sat at the bar to the side of the stage but it was still close to see everything. Sound system is top notch. Food was better than I expected. We tried half a dozen different appetizers. Cocktails and wine were quality as well. Definitely recommend this place for a show!
We had a horrible experience at the City Winery. Both the waitress and manager were rude and nasty to us. We ordered hamburgers and we waited more than an hour to receive our food. Other guests at our table came in and ordered food way after us and they received their food promptly. When we inquired about our food, the waitress told us that the manager was taking care of it. After still waiting more than 20 minutes later, I asked to speak with the manager. When he came to speak with me, he was very rude and obnoxious. After that, the waitress blamed me by saying that because I ordered well done fries that was why my order was taking so long--really? - over an hour! The waitress made several additional rude comments to us as the afternoon went on. At one point I turned to her and said-what did we do to you for you to treat us so badly? She just walked away. Unfortunately, I will never go back and I will never recommend the City Winery to anyone, even though it is a great venue to see bands. The music was great but there are so many other places to see great music and receive good service at the same time.
Special, intimate venue for music acts! We’ve seen so many talented musicians not on the Top 100 Charts .... Upscale space, but the tables closest to the stage are a bit too crowded .... Excellent variety of food, from salads to goat cheese pizza to risotto to burgers .... Humungous wine list, as befits a winery .... Superb service! No one on the planet is as attentive and as fast as Roy! .... Will really miss this space on Varick Street, and hope It’s new home in Hudson Yards is as magical .... Thanks for the memories, City Winery!
We recently went to City Winery for a Sunday brunch with music. The two klezmer bands were excellent, and at a volume that allowed conversation. Sadly, the food service was terrible. They seemed very disorganized and overwhelmed. Each plate for our table of four came sporadically, with the last meal coming about a hour after the first, and it was cold too. We spoke to other patrons afterwards, many of them had similarly negative experiences.
City Winery is honestly the worst place to see shows, which is a shame cause they get such great shows. But they cram people into tables right on top of strangers, uncomfortably close, and half the seats - which are always expensive - have their backs to the stage, so you have to awkwardly crane your neck around to see the show. During shows, servers are coming around taking orders and bringing food and drinks, and with so many shows being quiet acoustic shows, its really distracting. At shows with standing room tickets, there is no good place to stand, most of the view is obstructed by the pillars, and servers are passing through the standing room area with trays of food and drinks so you have to constantly move. Ive been there many times to see shows but vow to never go back - Ive not had one single good experience there.
BARREL ROOM EXPERIENCE: The food was just OK. The service was confusingly terrible.Went here for a Sunday brunch. The place was dead. One server for the whole place while the hostess stands there and bangs her hands on the bar to the beat of 106.7 lite FM on the radio.NYC is a hot spot with MANY options — needless to say, we won’t be going back to City Winery.Management: Have a talk to your staff. Either have the hostess help the server out or have her do some side work. Even pretend side work. Standing there and avoiding eye contact with customers doesn’t cut it. When you do make eye contact, you get a bit of a stink eye.¯_(ツ)_/¯ be better.
Incredible ambiance and great music, however the food is way overpriced and took over an hour to get. I spent over an hour waiting for a flatbread. When I asked my server to speak to a manager the gentleman who spoke to me wreaked of booze and was completely obnoxious to us. The venue is a beautiful place and deserves a 5 star rating, but after the way the manager treated us I will never return.
Pro: Good music venue, dinner reservations come with music tickets, you can order food and drinks before and during the showCon: Food is ok but not great, on the pricier side, during or right before a show it is very difficult to flag down a serverOverall: I recommend it. This is an adult way to see music and/or have a nice date night. Sitting down in comfortable chairs with wine and dinner.
I used to love going to City Winery and raved about to friends. I was recently there with a friend that had never been and I told him what a great venue it was. Well it wasnt that night and I was so embarrassed. The tables and chairs were so tiny and we were literally squeezed next to other patrons. Could not move to take off my jacket. I thought of people who were not a size 2 and thought how are they going to fit if they purchased tkts to a show. It was terrible. It has been some time since my last visit but I didnt remember it like this. To make matters worse..the food was awful. I ordered a salad with grilled chicken. They must have forgot the dressing and the chicken was cold, dry and not fresh. My soup was also cold and they brought both out at the same time. The tiny table could not hold my soup, salad and my friends burger. It was very uncomfortable. I have tkts for one more show but after that I wont be going anymore. Its sad when something that used to be so good ..go so far down the tubes.
City winery and the cellar next door are great additions to the Soho scene... On tap wines brewed through glass windows. A fun music venue with delicious sharable small plates and larger entrees. A great venue for events, concerts, weddings and more. We loved our evening there
A perfectly acceptable venue-- they get great acts, leaning toward middle-aged-friendly folk rock and adult alternative. A lot of my favorites play here, but the venue feels very MOR, like its built for your-parents-big-night-out-downtown (which I guess it probably is).The seating can be a little too intimate for a nice date night-- weve usually been sat awkwardly close to others at communal tables; it takes some focus to ignore the conversations that are happening inches away from yours.
Ive been a City Winery NY customer since they opened. This place is peerless. For those of us who mourned the loss of the Bottom Line, City Winery is the evolved successor. The room is much more spacious, the food and service is in another category altogether. Any of the few less than complimentary reviews here have to be very atypical and isolated since Ive literally dined and been at 100+ shows in NYC and Chicago and cant say theres much that can be improved about any aspect of the CW experience. Ive also spent a life in retail and the difficulty of having a large, ever-changing staff with thousands of customer interactions weekly who are as consistently on the same page as the CW staff is as rare and exemplary! They consistently go the extra mile and have always tried their best to please. No ones perfect, including some patrons, but my many City Winery experiences in both locations over the past 8 years have been consistently wonderful and beyond my always high expectations! The music, the staff, the food and wine make this a unique and special place in every way.
I so adore City Winery - the talent (on stage and off) is 💯💯💯. Whilst i am often blown away by the performers, tonight’s gold stars go to our server, Lamar. He handled the tight spaces with grace and the demanding patrons with a kind smile and a great deal of cheer. Thank you, Lamar!!
Although we like concerts here i did find that the sound board was missing last night for Joan Osbornes concert. A very muffled sound that you could tell that Joan was even having trouble with. The atmosphere is excellent with being so close to the bands. I do find that the wines are nothing special. They seem to run very fruit forward and young and sweet. Even the non City Winery wines are ugh. They really need to up their game in this area considering they call themselves a Winery.
Be careful when ordering the wine. It is very tricky how they put the year at the end on the right hand side where you expect to see the price. The prices are on the left hand side and are much steeper than the 11 year. And of course it is pitch dark in there.Must say the sound is good in there when seeing a band. The waiter we had last week was so sweet.
Very impressed! It was my first time here, came to see The Fixx. The thing that impressed me the most was the service. As a native New Yorker, Im used to terrible service but City Winery was an exception. The staff went out of their way to provide great service, I felt as if I was in the south, thats how good it was. Great sound, could have been a bit louder. Clean bathrooms in nyc! lol... yep, they have em. I ordered some wine and let the waitress choose for me and it was fantastic. I will be returning and bringing lots of music loving friends with me. Thank you City Winery for a great night! Such a wonderful establishment. Keep up the good work!
Excellent layout and food--but, terrible service and sound. The drink orders took forever. When the famous band played, due to over-amped bass and other instruments which literally vibrated ones inner organs, perhaps 10% of the highly anticipated lyrics were actually intelligible. Service staff were slow and very presumptuous. Have heard this venue is closing: no wonder why.*****Hey Max,To try to reply decently to your decent reply--Both my girlfriend and I found the table service too slow and the sound too distorted. We could not catch the bands lyrics. We decided to leave. She left the table first, and on an injured leg ambled over to the bar, where I subsequently joined her. She was trying to settle up the bill so we could leave in good order. The (sic) girl at the bar asked me pointedly where I had been sitting. Not having been given that numeric detail, I said didnt know, at which she smirked. ...I always have thought its the staffs job to know the seating arrangement, silly me.My girlfriend patiently waited to sort out the bill, while I headed outside for unamplified air. But immediately, halfway to the door, I was accosted by a server, bouncer, whatever--you call it--who barely let me leave, until he realized I simply wanted out the door. (Im a slight 62-yr old with a doctorate who can afford your venue 7 days a week, btw.) He was very polite and decent outside. No doubt the type you want.I waited for quite a while for my girlfriend to appear, all matters solved; while other patrons streamed out for the break. Other patrons also seemed not to have liked the sound. Some shaved dude (NY managerial?) came out with the bouncer/server at some point to look at me, then silently just went back inside.I know: in this economy it can be hard to get what you need.
This is about the loft. Great place. Saw Bobby Harden and it was fantastic. My only complaint is their wine. Paid fifty bucks for their basement made no label Spring Street Pinot Noir. The wine was difficult to drink and Im being nice. Way to young and almost tart. Youd think a place called CITY WINERY would offer a decent drinking wine. In the loft there is their wine and there is their wine. Stick to beer or cocktails and enjoy the music. The food in the loft tolerable at best. Sorry.... great night of music but that was it. I wondered why everyone around me was drinking cocktails but after a sip of their wine it was all clear to us......
Arrived at the Beatles Brunch on Mother’s Day at 10:50am. It is 1:40pm now and the concert is just about over. We haven’t been served food. Disgraceful! Already contested my prepaid charge to eat here. Never again. UPDATE (1 hour later). You should see the review this place just got on Google and YELP today. Oh my....
Ive been to the City Winery in NYC, Boston, Chicago, & Nashville. They cram you in like sardines in a can. The best location was Chicago, but NYC is terrible!!! Cant believe this is legal how tight they wedge you in!! Especially with open flames on the tables!! Have we not learned anything from the Station Night Club in Rhode Island? The waitstaff has a hard time getting to you to take your order. You have to pry yourself in & out of your seat. They jam 4 people into a 2 person table. Definitely not an enjoyable experience here. Thankfully I only come here for one artist....other than that Id never return. I hear theyre opening a new venue, hopefully they keep their customers comfort in mind?
Enjoyed my visit to City Winery on my vacation to New York City. The tour includes a flight of wines at the end and a pairing with cheese, nuts, and various dried fruits. I thought it was worth the money. We also ended our tour in the bar during happy hour and stayed for additional drinks. Wine list is extensive and there are lots of great (tasty!) options.
I went to City Winery (Barrel Room) on Friday with a friend before heading to an event. We had a glass of wine each, settled up the bill, and left. My experience while I was there was fine, the wine is good. But, I have to give this place a reluctant 2 stars, because of the issue I had later on. A few hours after I left, I realized I had misplaced my credit card. I realized I may have left it at this restaurant - but as I was not really in the neighborhood anymore I decided to call and ask before heading back over there.I placed the call and was transferred by someone to the Barrel Room, where no one answered, and the voicemail box was full so I was not able to leave a message. I called back and spoke to the same person who I initially spoke to and he got someone on the phone before transferring my call. The issue lies here - the lady I spoke to on the phone was incredibly rude. I understand on a Friday night they were likely busy, but when I explained I wanted to know if my card had been left behind, she placed me on hold, came back and informed me that she could only take down my information and get back to me within 48 hours.I calmly explained to her that 48 hours is ridiculous, as it should be a quick ask to check if someones card was left at the bar or not, and then she abruptly hung up on me without taking my information. Now I have to replace my card, and go through the hassle. I was really aggravated at the lack of customer service I received here for a simple question, and as for the employee I spoke with who hung up on me, I hope your management sees this so that your behavior can be corrected. Incredibly rude.So go here if you would like to, but just triple check you have your card with you when you leave. The staff will be of no help if you leave it behind.
Excellent music venue; good, though overpriced, wine and food. Service is sloooooooow. Only real issue with the place is that they do not issue hard tickets, which is fine, so you really need to bring your e-mail confirmation with you, or at least know your exact seat numbers. We were seated in the completely wrong seats, and we did not realize it until the next day after checking our e-mail confirmation.
A fantastic venue, the only reason Im giving them 4 stars instead of 5 is because the bus staff and waiters keeps taking our waters off of our tables while were dancing. We came for a wedding, and were up there dancing and sweating our butts off, and then duck back to our tables for a sip of something cool, and all of our glasses are gone. This happened several times in a row. They also took our desserts before we were done.
Just wanted to share some feedback of a great night of Music, Wine and Food spent at City Winery. Our server Lucas despite being super busy with many tables was amazing and found the time to go over the wines (including some made at their own facility) and food items. Will come back!
Saw a Macy Gray concert here and was really impressed. We actually sat at the bar to the side of the stage but it was still close to see everything. Sound system is top notch. Food was better than I expected. We tried half a dozen different appetizers. Cocktails and wine were quality as well. Definitely recommend this place for a show!Rafael Yau
Location, views, food and menu creativity, flavor, and artisan coctails were in earnest very good. But its surprisingly pricey for ridiculously small portion sizes. Ate a large plate entree (their verbiage) and appetizers, left hungry and disappointed with the bill. Had to stop at a food cart on the way back, and so did every single other person in our party. 15 dollar basic glass of wine and cocktails. 25-30 for an entree. Small portions.
My husband and I had the best night out at City Winery in NYC last night. Our first date night since having our 2nd child and our amazing waitress, Autumn, took the best care of us from start to finish. She was awesome and made our night so special. Thank you, Autumn, and thank you Donavan Frankenreiter for some beautiful music and all around good vibes ✌🏽🤘🏽🥂
I find its easy to forget bout City Winery as a performance space.Good food. Good wine (Obviously!). Surprisingly - good beer. This combo makes for an easy way to have a great night out with friends. Keep an eye on their calendar of events. Theres usually something for everyone.
Went to see Joshua Radin in Oct 2015. My first time there and I loved the place. I didnt eat but just went for the music and drinks. Most seats are good. I would want a hightop table if I was eating there. We were all the way in the back along the window but still have a great view and the sound was good.
Came for a night out with my husband to see Ron Pope. What a great intimate venue! Our server Brian was so attentive & always made sure we had what we needed, and was always quick with a suggestion. It totally inhanced our experience to have such a great server! Thank you to Brian & City Winery for a great night.
Great entertainment, hostile service, sub-par food. I want to love City Winery — they have great acts. But the last two times I’ve been, the service has been almost laughably bad and the food has been terrible. Highlights: Waiting 45 for service and being told 3 times someone would come, snotty waitresses that are defensive and rude (at no time were we rude to any of the staff), raw shishito peppers, lukewarm tea water, pizza that shouldn’t be served in NYC. The best moment, though, was when they refused to steam vegetables for someone with a limited diet and told them it would be a $15/$25 plating fee (depending on who you asked) to eat her own food out of her own container with her own fork. She ate in the bathroom because it was too cold outside.Anyway, bottom line is, go for the entertainment but eat somewhere else before hand.
The Quick: Gorgeous venue, great for a party or corporate event. Wine was fantastic (made in house) and the food was very tasty. Overall a wineos dream. The Detail: Who knew this spot was Manhattans only winery? They ship grapes from California and barrel the wine in house-- worth a try. They offer wine pairings, wine flights, and everything in between. I was there for corporate event and it was a blast. I highly recommend the appetizer tiny tuna tacos (likely named something more sophisticated).
Lapin and I came here last Sunday for a late brunch at the Barrel Room. When, we arrived the manager/hostess was a bit irritated and annoyed at her employees and she had a visible annoyed look on her face. Personally, if you are irate at your employees --- do not show it in front of paying customers. We were seated and our server came out a bit distressed. It could be that they were hosting a reunion in the space next door. Lapin and I did a wine flight for a bit of a boozy brunch. Lapin ordered the Smoke Salmon Benedict and I got the Buffalo Mozzarella. Our food took almost 45 minutes to come. Lapins Salmon dish was delicious but it came out lukewarm and the bread was stiff. My flatbread was an utter mess. It was greasy, soggy and stupidly cold. When, I told the waitress she didnt do much to amend the situation (and also didnt accept our OpenTable Reservation). The service was horrendous and food was too cold to even enjoy. Perhaps, we came during a busy day but I am in no rush to find out if that is the case.
I have seen more shows here than I can name. Amazing venue, intimate, good food and great wine. I wonderful place to see some of the best names in music. My only issue, why I wont give 5 stars, is that sometimes they are snooty, and you get looks and questioned heavily by bouncers if you arent dressed to the nines (which in my case, I show up for concerts in a rock tshirt and jeans). If you can look past the attitude (its nyc after all) then you will love it.
I was cautious about our experience at BN given all the reviews of poor service and cramped space... I personally had a 4-star experience, but I docked 1 * for how overpriced this was given that its a music venue. We arrived 2 hours early as advised for the much anticipated Bebel Gilberto show. Skeptical at getting a good spot, we ultimately had the best spot in the house, which was at a table directly in front of the stage, but 3 seats away from the ledge so close but not too close. Lucky day!We dipped a toe in w fried calamari, which was surprisingly tasty after our expectations had been so reduced, so then followed up w the pan roasted salmon and a daily special of duck. Both were a 3-star which is to say they were good but not standouts, which is where my deduct comes in for these $25-35 entrees... I dont mind being hit up for the music, thats what Im there for, but dont cash in on the ancillary just because you have a captive audience - thats corrosive to the heart of this club.
This is THE worst brunch place Ive been to in New York City. Im sure that does sound a bit hyperbolic, but I have had so many great brunches in this city, and this place really falls short. The service was really slow. Further, they forgot to bring a dish we ordered. The food was just bad.. like I had the scrambled egg dish and the single best part of it was the toast.
This is a way overdue THANK YOU to City Winery for our wedding on May 24, 2014. Words simply cannot express the appreciation that I have for all the effort put forth by your team to make our day extra special. I worked very closely with Amanda and Emily through the process who always were available to answer all my phone calls (sometimes multiple times per day!!), and reassured me that everything would go perfectly…which it did! When we arrived at the CW, we were running a little late and the guests had already arrived. Without hesitation, the team knew to sneak me through the wine cellar and keep me out of sight! The ceremony was flawless, and when it was over, my husband and I were able to spend some quality time together before cocktail hour. CW set the suite up with drinks and appetizers that were being served and we had a personal assistant to get us anything we needed. Once the reception started, Emily kept right on track with the timeline we put together. The dinner was seriously the BEST wedding food ever. I have been told soooo many times that they would return to the Winery just to eat those braised short ribs with polenta. Even the salmon was a huge hit, and not dried out like it usually is when you order fish in large quantities. We also opted for the cake from Tribeca Treats which was just fabulous! A few days out from the wedding, we ordered the wine with custom labels, which our guests have repeatedly said how much they enjoyed it – they were a huge hit and so glad we included this touch! I simply cannot say enough for how perfectly everything was, and how wonderful the entire team continues to be to us. They even sent an extremely sweet gift to us last week, more than 3 months later! I still keep in touch with the team there and know we will be returning soon for a concert or two! They really went above and beyond to make our day so extra special. If you are considering a wedding at this venue, you shouldn’t even think twice! It fulfilled our every wish, and hope it will be perfect for you as well
Frankly speaking, the only good thing about this place is the view. Service was VERY slow. We probably waited 15-20 minutes just to get our drinks. Lobster roll was very mediocre compared to its high price. I would suggest going there just for drinks, or just settle with their appetizers.
This is a great option for a cheap and tasty weekend brunch, even with a larger group (up to 10, easily) on shorter notice. This will probably be true of most Saturdays and Sundays before, say, 4pm.But this place could easily be packed if theres a show going on (or about to go on). Behind the curtain are doors that open (think overflow room) to the main event space of City Winery nextdoor.Portions are quite generous! The flatbreads are tasty, so was the corned beef/beet hash. Also: Wine on tap! Wine flights! The actual barrel room, which you have to walk through in order to go to the bathroom, is really fun and fragrant.
We went to the Loft last night to see Buster Pointdexter.......waited one hour for him to come on. Torture sitting in hard chairs in a cert crowded table....awful service too. My husbands beer came, my drink 15 minutes later. Food for the price skimpy. Our waiter asked us what we had because he could not remember....waited for our bill a long time.Do not recommend atall!!!!!!!!awful
The wine was good, but nothing was anything I really felt like having again. The ambiance is nice with tables made from corks and wine casks all around. We took the tour and tasting and while the tour was interesting, it dragged on a bit and had to be completed before sampling anything. The sampling was fairly small as well with 3 fairly small pours including a Sauvignon, a Zinfandel, and a Rose. All were ok, but none really stuck out. The cheese pairing was very good, especially the blue cheese and goat cheese, but again, fairly small. The staff was helpful and friendly, but a bit slow and unfocused on the tour. Id go back for just some of the wine (different types) or for the concerts, but would skip the tour.
Got fried chicken burger with fries. The disappointment was that the fried chicken in the sandwich very small but the fries made up for it. From the look of the outside, it looks like a small place but the restaurant is actually huge. There are wine racks all around and also there is a stage for live music venues. Friendly servers and the bathroom is all the way to the back corner.
Saw Johnny Clegg Band here and had and absolute blast. A small group of us danced over by the bar, which I feel is a great spot to get tickets if you dont feel like doing the whole table/dinner thing, And you can eat at the bar. My roommate and I kept exclaiming this place is so cute and declared we would come back, but we still havent.
Who thinks to put Susan Werner and Dar Williams up on stage together? City Winery. This is one of NYCs great music venues. Have seen a few shows here in the 10 years they are at this original location, and have always enjoyed myself. Also they are good people in charge who us their space and platform to help organizations that do good in the world. The big tbd with CityWinery is what will the new space be like when they move later this year (2019), as long as the same people are running it, I am sure it will continue to be great.
We went here for our anniversary and are so glad we chose this place. The ambiance/view was perfect, food was great, and service was excellent. Our server, Laura was so friendly and on top of everything- and we were constantly checked on by other restaurant staff as well. Dont believe the other reviews that complain about bad service !

2022-08-04Rude staff and way overpriced! They cleared out table without asking if we were done and yess there was still a whole salad on the table, fry’s on a plate and cheese on our platter. When I went to complain they gave me and attitude. I waited over 30 mins for an order of truffle fry’s that were mediocre at best.

2018-04-28I photographed an event here. It was very cool. The staff is very nice. Lots of space to spread out. Nice sound system and a great stage. Everything about this venue was amazing. The wine is out of this world. I highly recommend it. This is a New York City staple. Go get it!!!!

2019-03-03Ok so we get there for brunch when they open, didnt see other people there, which we didnt mind. Got seated, table and decor are nice. Glasses simply dont look clean, but whatever lets keep going. Got the champagne with OJ, pineapple juice and grapefruit juice options. Juices came in a breaker, which was a cool look, but again, not very clean looking. Whatever, lets keep going. The burger with smoked bacon and cheddar cheese on brioche bun sounds good, medium rare of course, with house fries. Comes out in good time. Take a bite, CRUNCH. WTF. Burger was burnt on both sides. Two other people I was with, same thing with their burgers. One of them, their bun was even burnt, you and I mean BLACK. Not good. Fries looked wrinkly like an old person. Not good. Bun was a whitish color, not like a golden brown. Not good. Devils eggs were cool with the flavors, but it just didnt seem fresh. Not good. They do have house made wines, even on tap, if youre into that, and the wine we tried was tasty, so overall 3/10 for me

2019-04-13Very cool and Huuuuge place.I was expecting a little more from the selection of wine since i walked inside a Winery. They have a very big event space, a restaurant, a lounge and a loft.I just had a glass of Chardonnay which was ok, haven’t tried food.

2019-03-29This place is amazing and will be missed as allegedly Disney is going to take over the whole space. So before that happens, go see a concert here and enjoy one of the most beautiful music venues in NYC!The space is intimate, the lighting is dark, and the music is amazing. I saw Howie Day here for $30 and it was probably the best deal in NYC since Papaya Dog gave me a free corn dog.The food here is great - the calamari melts in your mouth and the risotto balls are perfect. If youre here for a concert, sit on the floor level near the stage. The VIP area is anything but.Service is fantastic. I will miss this place and you will too. So go visit before its gone. Oh, and apparently theres a winery somewhere here.

2019-06-24The venue itself is pretty OK. Seat choice is crucial here. We were very close to the stage - but on the far side. Still a good seat - but the people just a few seats away had not great seats. The service was pretty bad though. And unfortunately I think it was both our server, and the kitchen. My boyfriend asked for no tomato on a burger... It came with tomato. I ordered food... Never arrived. The food we did have was meh at best.My recommendation is head somewhere else for dinner first. Then head over here for your show and a pretty decent wine selection.

2019-01-04I had a lovely time at lunch today, ordered the olive oil cake which was exquisite, the wonderful bartender at lunch this Friday suggested the Port wine which really hit the spot, I was having a rough day at the parrport agency nearby and this young woman (whose name I forgot to grab) made my experience here unforgettable! Five out of five!

2019-03-19Went to Happy Hour and then saw Marcia Ball perform in The Loft and had a blast. Perfect intimate location for music.
