After five years we decided it was time to get a new sofa. When you would sit down on it the cushions compressed so much it felt like a subterranean adventure. After a recent basement conversion, we no longer had the same door access used to bring in the sofa. Our only option now was to have the sofa cushion foam inserts redone. We decided to go to Classic Sofa. Blake, the owner, suggested that we redo the fabric as well since it was made of inferior material and wouldnt hold up well. We went with his suggestion and the end result can be seen in the before and after photos. What you cant experience from the photos is the comfort we now enjoy sitting and lounging on the sofa...orders of magnitude better than the original. Thank you Blake and the wonderful staff at Classic Sofa.
I had my original Classic Sofa made almost 20 years ago and was so happy to learn that they also reupholster! For a fraction of the price of a new one, they reinforced the structure, made new cushions and delivered me the finished product in less than two weeks! Blake was so nice to work with. We were able to do everything remotely and it couldn’t have been easier.
This review isnt about the quality of their furniture. On April 8 at 5:13pm this company delivery van almost hit my car and speed to avoid having eye contact. Those employee should not be driving so reckless.
We loved our living room furniture purchased many years ago and couldnt find anything of similar quality when, after 24 yr of kids, cats and dogs, it needed to be replaced, until we found classic sofa. In the end we decided to have our furniture re-upholstered. They stripped it to its very solid frames, rebuilt and reupholstered it. Jacob and Blake were great to work with every step of the way, and we love our new old living room furniture.
We were looking for a new loveseat (~60 inches long) for our apartment. We visited all the major furniture stores in Manhattan. You name it, we were there (Room and Board, Jensen Lewis, Safavieh, Stickley, Raymour & Flanagan, etc). The selection of loveseats, especially in the size we wanted, was paltry. These days, all the showrooms only seem to be showing and selling couches no less than 72 inches in length. The selection of fabrics was also very limited and boring, at least for our taste and what we were looking forward.Then we remembered we had purchased a couple of chairs from Classic Sofa (CS) many years ago, when they were on West 22nd Street between 5th and 6th Avenues. A Google search revealed CS still was in operation, but now in the Bronx. For those without a car, it is easily reached on the #6 subway.Blake Anding of CS was nothing but terrific to work with. We explained our experience looking for a loveseat, and he assured us he could make whatever we wanted. We gave him the dimensions and the elements we wanted. He quickly made suggestions, and it turned into a give and take experience, resulting in the exact loveseat we were looking for. Blake was patient and accommodating. Importantly for us, he had an immense selection of fabrics from which to choose. There was a large number of fabric books from different manufacturers at the factory, as well as links on the CS website to peruse. It was almost too much. But we found the perfect fabric to go on the perfect loveseat. The upholstery workmanship was also perfect. Although our fabric had an intricate design, all the back and bottom cushions were perfectly aligned as were the arms.Finally, the delivery of the loveseat went flawlessly. The delivery men (Frankie and Pepito) arrived at the appointed time, carried in a carefully wrapped piece of furniture and quickly removed our old loveseat for disposal. It took them 10 minutes at most.In summary, we couldn’t be happier, and we recommend this merchant without hesitation. It may not be the cheapest way to go, but we can guarantee you it is the best way to go.
One of the best purchases Ive made for our home in 25 years. During delivery, Jacob and Keith were true professionals, eg. never let em see you sweat. They deftly managed the inclined driveway, ornamental maple, and storm glass covered door carrying a 96 w. plastic shrouded sofa. The quality is outstanding, I dont expect ever needing to replace it, but I will go to Classic Sofa again for more wonderful, bespoke upholstered pieces. Many thanks, Stef Corbin
I bought my first Classic Sofa pieces from the NYC showroom in 1996 and I still love them all. Multiple babies - houses - holiday and parties ( but same husband!) -- the sofa and chairs have lived thru everything. Today, Blake delivered my latest Classic Sofa purchase and it is just perfect. No: you will not get this in one week like a catalog store. Yes: you will have it for decades and never regret. No: you will not love driving to the showroom. I purchased a Classic Sofa couch in the mid 1990’s and then a matching loveseat in 2009 when I moved into a bigger place in NY. Both pieces are like new still in 2021. I just purchased another sofa - a queen sofa bed for our Florida home - to replace a store bought sofa that lasted a mere 2 years. Yes, they’re somewhat more costly than a furniture store couch. BUT - they will last and look good for decades. Working with Blake was a dream - easy, direct, rather quick for a custom piece. I’m just so pleased with the process and the finished product. Every inch of the piece is perfect - the workmanship and craftsmanship shows at first glance and deeper inspection. My sincere thanks to Blake and his incomparable team at Classic Sofa.
Dealing with Blake and his team was a pleasure, responsive and professional. They just delivered my two beautifully reupholstered chairs. These were 20+ years old made by Lewis Mittman with a lot of wear and tear. The craftsmen at Classic Sofa made the chairs brand new once again. Blake replaced my sofa cushions with a more comfortable foam and now the family is so much more comfortable.The pandemic had delayed this, but once he was able to enter our building, It was done quickly., i . I just got the sofa that the skilled crew at Classic Sofa built to my specifications, and I’m really thrilled with it. For reference, I’m very picky about aesthetics and quality. I fell in love with the look of some low-slung sectionals at a high-end Italian furniture maker. But I did not love the excruciating process of dealing with them, limited customizability to fit my space, or climbing up from a nearly floor-level seat. So I started researching fully custom options. Which turns out to have been very lucky, because I found Classic Sofa. Blake worked with me to capture the look I wanted while raising it to a more practical level, sourced a specific fabric I wanted, gave great advice about balancing comfort for me (short woman) and my husband (tall man), and more. The quality is fabulous: the cushions feel great, the seam lines and fabric orientation all line up to nicely to match the straight lines of the piece, the frame is solid with absolutely no flex or squeaks, the springs have the perfect resiliency, and the delivery crew was super, setting it up exactly where I wanted and leaving the place spotless when they finished. This is clearly a lifetime sofa. I’ll mention two things if you’re considering getting one. First, a really good sofa (especially in a large size) weighs more than other sofas. So get some felt or Teflon sliders, whatever works best on your flooring, and ask the delivery guys to put them under the feet while they’re setting up. They very kindly did that for me. And if you plan to go to Classic Sofa’s location, don’t be surprised that it’s a warehouse/factory, in a factory-ish neighborhood, not a fancy showroom. I believe they’ll come to you if you prefer, but it was easier for me to go there. And it was absolutely worth the trip: I ended up with a better quality sofa than the other guys, made exactly as I wanted it, at the same price.
Blake and his team have delivered two sofas to my home and theyre amazing works of craftsmanship. The pieces are so well made, and the fabrics used are incredible quality. My space feels much more like home than before. Moreover, furniture delivery was smooth, and the guys were very professional. Would recommend over and over again!

We ordered a custom made roll arm style sofa from classic sofa recently. I really wanted a more upscale look and quality - more of an investment sofa. It is beautiful and was a very good value for the custom product. No comparison to brands we usually had purchased from like RH, etc. (which arent much cheaper for a far inferior product). Customer service has also been great. The sofa cushions are extremely high quality with a ton of feather/down filling. Blake, the owner, is very knowledgeable and was very accommodating. We will definitely purchase again in future from classic sofa as needs arise.
My first purchase was a sectional from Classic Sofa in 2007 and then bought another sofa in 2011 – they are both still in excellent condition. Then, this year, I purchased two large sofas, a large daybed, and an upholstered bench for my new house. They were all very specific, not typical, custom designs, and we are very happy with all four pieces. I like that I was invited to the showroom so that I can see the progress and do a sit test to be sure I liked the fill before it was upholstered. I was sent progress photos when I asked for them, and when I wanted to change something, Blake didnt hesitate to accommodate. At the end, he even recovered an old bench seat for me with some extra fabric and was very fair in pricing. I especially appreciate Blakes passion and follow through – he truly cares about the quality of his work and making his customers happy. I will continue to have Blake, and his team at C/S make upholstered furniture for me in the future.

My husband and I needed living room chairs for our new home during the pandemic. I knew exactly what I wanted, but they were nowhere to be found locally. I took a chance site unseen and ordered two chairs to be made by Classic Sofa. They are perfect! Working with Blake was a pleasure. He was involved from conception to the end. Twenty years ago I invested in a sofa that was custom built by Classic Sofa. Since I was furnishing my first New York City apartment there was not as much money on-hand as I would have wanted but I realized that investing in some quality pieces would serve me well in the end. I chose to spend more on a great mattress and a great sofa as those would be the two places Id be spending most of my time. I really made the right decision in both cases and when it came time for me to replace my sofa this year I went back to Classic Sofa and had my original purchase reupholstered as it really stood the test of time and I was still in love with the size, shape and design.I worked closely with Eric and Blake to find a more contemporary fabric and to determine how to add some design elements (decorative nail heads, different legs) that would make my sofa seem updated while still paying homage to its inherent classic design and architecture. Blake is knowledgeable, respectful and backs up his business promises; both he and Eric provided guidance and helpful opinions when asked.The end product is fabulous and we are thrilled with our decision to reinvest in a classic sofa from Classic Sofa. I highly recommend them without equivocation.
We had a 24 year old Classic Sofa and two arm chairs that really needed new upholstery and new down etc. Blake helped me find a beautiful fabric and assured me that it was worth having all of the furniture reupholstered. We are very pleased with the work done by Blake and Classic Sofa.. Blake even went out of his way to find new English casters for the two chairs. All of the pieces turned out great!
In 1996, I bought my first adult sofa from Classic Sofa. It lasted through 3 kids, 4 cats, 2 dogs and 3 moves. If Id chosen a more classic style, I would still have it. After looking for months at couches at all the typical couch buying places, I returned to Classic Sofa of NY. The artisans at Classic Sofa listened to my couch dreams and hand-made me exactly what I was imagining. Even with a few hiccups due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the shut down of business in NY, the whole experience was a pleasure. Blake communicated every step in the process and quickly problem solved the roadblocks caused by the pandemic. The end result is a beautiful and comfortable couch that I plan to have forever.

I bought an odd shape sofa from Classic Sofa. I only had a rough idea of what I wanted to do and a rough idea of colors. Blake, the owner, stepped in and converted my broad ideas to reality. He managed to understand my dream, desires, and my own dos and donts for design and converted them to real drawings and measurements, adding angles I never thought of, like what is a confortable depth, the visual of cushion height, height of sides that fit the design of style, etc. He also helped me with fabric type, colors and other factors. After a few short weeks the sofa landed in my living room. Stunning with a few levels of excellence: first and foremost there is a great look. Blake has managed to translate my vision to reality in the most accurate way. There is also comfort and quality. The combination of feathers and foam make this sofa offer just the right balance of comfort and supprt. Its also sturdy. We have purchased most of our sofas from Classic Sofa over the last 20 years, or so. We have been pleased with these. Our latest arrived yesterday (5/19) and looks amazing. The staff at their new West Village shop is very attentive and helpful. Blake Anding will work with you and provide you with all the help you need to arrive at your purchase. I accompanied him to the D&D building on the upper east side to pick fabrics. This was a day well-spent and very fun, too, though the choices, of course, are mind-boggling. The specs of the sofa were changed to match our needs and it was basically a matter of waiting for the fabric to arrive to finish the job. Throughout, Blake maintained constant contact to keep us in the loop. I loved this follow-through. Attention to detail is everything. So now we have a splendid addition to our home and we are as pleased as Punch.

We spent over a year looking and hemming and hawing over our best options for a new couch. We wanted something that would perfectly fit us and our needs, and we were so tired of buying a cheaper couch that we need to replace every few years. All signs pointed to Classic Sofa. They are so easy to work with, you get to customize every last detail, and they were so fast (like 4 wks vs 6-12 wks elsewhere). They might be a little pricier than a box store, but you get a lifetime guarantee and amazing customer care for life. My husbands parents have had their Classic Sofa for over 20 years and its as comfortable as ever. Weve been enjoying ours for a little over a month now and it has been worth every penny. This couch is going to be with us for a long time, and we are so excited about it!
I bought a large sofa from Classic in around 2003. It was well-constructed (I am a part-time carpenter) and the material was amazingly sturdy. It served me well when my kids were pre-teens, but when I moved in 2006 wanted to recover the thing, and the sofa needed to be reduced in size a bit to fit my new family room. Classic performed the surgery and recovered the piece beautifully. That version also wore great and was solid and wobble free. In 2016 we decided to recover again, and went to the Classic location to look at new material. We failed to notice that the store was on a holiday schedule, so the place had closed early. The doorman at the adjacent apt. complex called owner Blake (who it turned out was at dinner), and he came back and opened the store for us. Amazingly gracious. We picked the fabric and as expected, the sofa came back to us impeccably covered. By some oversight the matching sofa cushions were not delivered, so shortly thereafter Blake himself drove up to our house in Westchester to deliver the cushions. Our 14-year-old sofa is in perfect shape and beautifully covered. Blake is wonderfully meticulous and responsive (and also, as it happens, quite elegant and funny). We love Classic Sofa and will never buy a sofa anywhere else.
I found Classic Sofa and Blake, and now have the most beautiful and comfortable Knole sofa in my den. Blake was by my side, tirelessly helping me the entire time. He found the fabric that took my breath away, and love to this day. He shopped with me for the finials.Just recently I had Classic Sofa change the stuffing in another sofa I own to their classic cushion inserts. It came out great!
A total rehab of a club chair purchased from the NYC showroom years ago. We are very happy with the beautiful end product and know it will last a good long time! The guys are very personable and sincere. After hearing that I was unhappy with one of the correspondences, I was immediately contacted and asked what they should have done better. We had a sectional couch that was very uncomfortable with hard cushions and rough material in our basement. We found Classic sofa through a Google search and Blake went above and beyond to find us a new fill for our cushions and found us the perfect fabric. Im an interior designer from Boston and I cant say enough about the work that Classic Sofa of NY has done for me. They are detail oriented and a pleasure to work with. They have done everything they can to ensure that our custom made sofa met our expectations. We requested special fill, sprung seats, custom dimensions, memory foam mattress and locking casters on our ottomans. The were ready and able to make extra pillows too. It is hard to find quality workmanship but these guys deliver.
Weve purchased several sofas from Classic Sofa over the years. After many years of wear, we needed to reupholster one of them. They were incredibly helpful in finding the right fabric and making the process easy. After the fabric arrived, the sofa was picked up and returned in just one week - it looks and feels like a brand new sofa!! The quality, service and experience could not have been better! Blake and Jacob did an amazing job of creating the perfect couches for our new office. We showed them a picture and they worked their magic and created exact replicas. After fifteen years, the seat cushions of our sofa and loveseat, which we purchased from Classic Sofa, needed an uplift. Classic Sofa refurbished the cushions. They no longer sag, they look great and they are extremely comfortable again. The people at Classic are great to work with; they solved our problem with expertise and caring. My husband and I highly recommend them.
So its 2002 and I research for the best sleeper-sofa I can find because Im going to sleep on this baby every night. After identifying Classic Sofa as my most favored and stylish manufacturer in the City, I use their personalized service to order one made to my specs, noting that they promise to replace the sleeper unit or anything else, should I need. Fast-forward 13 years, and a sleeper unit that has done classic service is indeed overdue for replacement. I call Blake and Jeff, and a few weeks later Jeff arrives with two delightful furniture craftsmen, who proceed to build a brand new Belgian sleeper unit into my now much-loved, veteran Classic Sofa. Sleep is again bliss, and I dont know anywhere that I could find more personalized service!
Highly professional, personalized service. Their furniture is guaranteed for life. I bought a sofa 20 years ago and decided that I wanted the arms redesigned and new fabric along with reupholstery this year. I was thrilled with their suggestions for fabric in their ability to work with me financially. When I changed my mind about the arms on the chair after refurbishing, they agreed to redo them at close to cost. It was a remarkable tribute to customer service. For me this was a Classic Sofa redux. After 30 years and one re-covering it was time for 2 new sofas. How do you say wonderful things about a company, their product, and the people who work there. 5 stars is not enough. SOFA NIGHTMARE. DO NOT BUY FROM CLASSIC SOFA. My wife and I purchased a custom sofa from these people. The sofa was promised and scheduled for delivery by them on (4) separate dates prior to the final date of delivery. Two of these delivery dates were cancelled on the date of planned delivery, after arrangements had been made to obtain access to the building elevator and for someone to be present to accept delivery. When the sofa was delivered, it did not conform to the plans and specifications of the sofa that we ordered. It did not simply deviate from the design plan in only one or two cosmetic aspects, but, instead, was inconsistent with the design plans in multiple substantive ways. Our interior designer and other furniture specialist agreed that the sofa was incorrectly instructed. It was unreasonably uncomfortable and truly unusable. They refused to take the sofa back or to provide a refund. Stay away. There are so many other reputable places to get your furniture in NYC.

I have been buying sofas and chairs from Classic Sofa for a very long time; I think it must be more than 20 years! Their products have always been highly satisfactory and a source of pride and pleasure.
They completely revitalized a couch that I bought from them 15 years ago that was chewed and destroyed by my crazy 2 boys over the years and completely worked within my budget. Amazing couch that just needed reupholstery. TOTALLY worth the money!
Had my 26 year old Classic Sofa (sofa bed) reupholstered. Excellent craftsmanship, quality materials and very pleasant and attentive customer service.
THE IS FOR A FACEMASK NOT A SOFA. I am about 5 10 170 lbs I ordered a medium facemask. They delivered. It was exact, with one exception. Its too small for my face. If you are about my height order a large. Its a good mask that runs small.

2022-04-29I don’t know where to start. I found Classic Sofa online. Emailed for an appraisal. Super quick friend response. Once we figured out the details Blake sent me all the fabric swatches I needed to make a decision. He took care of every last detail and made corrections when needed. All with a can do attitude and a smile on his face. The quality of the workmanship, the materials, the service, the follow up, the delivery … wow. Class act. Truly a gem in the industry. Blake is a young guy with old world charm. He has so much pride in his work and there is a reason. It’s amazing. Call Blake at Classic Sofa. You won’t be disappointed.

2022-02-05I had 2 Classic Sofas Couches , two Chairs and an ottoman custom made by Classic Sofa in 2000. One of the couches had a pull out bed. My family loved them. Now 22 years later I was able to ask Classic Sofa to reupholster all of these pieces for a new apartment . Blake was a pleasure to work with and we love them. They look beautiful and are incredibly comfortable. And the whole pick up, reupholstery and return process was incredibly speedy. I highly recommend them and would use them again. A custom sofa is made to your specifications and that makes a big difference. The price was very reasonable and the service terrific. I am so happy to have these sofas updated so beautifully.

We got to see the showroom when we came to pick our fabric and it was incredible to see behind the scenes of the operation and the attention to detail that goes into each piece. While the price is steep because the pieces are custom, the quality is extraordinary and well worth the investment.

2021-09-30Classic Sofa is my go-to place when purchasing a sofa for my apartment. I bought my last sofa in 1993, 28 years ago. I had it reupholstered once, but finally decided it was time for a replacement. I went directly back to Classic Sofa. Blake helped me to select the 80 Wythe Sleeper couch in Chivasso Hot Madison CH1249/107. It is perfect! Classic beauty and luxurious comfort. I cant wait to have guests so they can try out the sleeper. Blake is wonderfully knowledgeable and gave me great honest advice at every step. I couldnt be happier!

2021-12-01We have had Classic Sofa furniture for decades. It is so well made and comfortable that we have recovered it several times as our decor has changed. We recently moved and custom ordered new chairs and a sofa to fit in our new living room. It is gorgeous! Working with Blake is a pleasure because he knows the industry and has a great sense of design. He helped us design the style we wanted and sent swatches of fabric for us to make selections since we dont live in NYC. The turn around time was amazing....even during this troubled time of back orders and shipping delays. His team provides the best customer service. Classic Sofa is simply the best!

2022-06-25Classic Sofa reupholstered my living room sofa, and I couldn’t be happier with the experience. We were having a hard time getting the right fabric, and the owner met with us four times, once at his showroom, twice in our home, and once at the Design Center where many fabric houses have showrooms. He was always upbeat, helpful, accommodating, and a pleasure to work with. Once we decided on a fabric, the work was completed quickly and the workmanship is first rate. I am a very satisfied customer, and I would unequivocally recommend this company to anyone.

2020-11-01Classic Sofa of NYC is just that... CLASSIC! We purchased our first sofa from them in 1999 and only because we moved and it didn’t work in the new space did we give it away. We bought two sofas in 2017 for our living room and just received our sectional for the family room last week. We love everything about their sofas. Customer service, workmanship and quality are outstanding. The sofas are comfortable and are everything you imagine them to be. Blake was such a pleasure to work with. He took the time to drive 2.5 hrs to see the space and consult with us on how to best fill the our family room. He communicated with us on a regular basis while the work was being performed. He updated us with pictures and emails of our new piece. He invited us to a ‘sit-test’ before cutting the fabric to insure we were 100% happy with our size selection. He provided us with an endless supply of fabric samples via mail. He was part of the delivery team and followed up to check if we are happy with our choice.‘Happy’ we are! 2020-12-29Highly recommend Blake and his team at Classic Sofa - true craftsmen and a gorgeous end product. We designed a custom couch to fit a unique space 3 years ago, and then this year added a new piece to fit our new apartment. Blake is super easy to work with, very responsive and provides high end customer service. The couch is gorgeous and just perfect for us - still looks like new nearly 3 years on, even with 2 young kids climbing and spilling on it all the time.
