Cohoes Falls in Waterford
Cohoes Falls in other cities:
A nice view and quiet place. We stopped by here when returning from Lake George to the City. Not much of a detour. The area where one could go down is now closed but it would have given a great view. The water falls are second largest in NY state after Niagara. There’s hydro electric power plant as well. A decent place.
I took away 2 stars because of the Google fail. The directions go to the falls, behind a fence where you cant park or walk. Continue on that road with the river on your left a few blocks, until you get to river view park. Park on the right, across the street and walk to the park.
An incredible site and a historical landmark. Definitely a must see in the Spring, but I do wish there was more recognition of the falls by the State. The falls were the inspiration for Hiawatha that made him form peace between the natives to form the Iroquois Confederacy centuries ago. The falls were known as the Great Falls by the 1600s and were highly recognized by the Dutch settlers and other European Visitors and were considered the largest falls in the western world until Niagara Falls was discovered. It was used to generate electricity for numerous manufacturers, one of which was the Harmony Mills, which was one of the largest and most productive cotton mills in the nation in its time during the mid to late 1800s. Dont miss this spectacular site and wonderful preservation of our heritage!

2021-09-14Very nice falls to visit. It is an easy walk into and out of. If you go down to the lower part near the river, there is a long stairs that you have to climb to get back out. There is a platform to take photos and to fish.

2017-06-27The most silent falls! You cannot hear the sound of the water until you walk down near the viewpoints. It is home to a hydroelectric power plant and apparently, a popular field trip destination for elementary school children. Though you cant see the falls real close, you can see 2 powerful turbines doing their thing. Definitely worth a visit.

2018-10-11I come to the park every single day off for at least half hour just to stair and listen to the falls. The white noise and the flowing water really helps me think and relax. What a great place to go, and they maintain this park so well that you never have to worry. Check it out

2018-10-07THERE ARE TWO VIEWING POINTS TO ENJOY THE COHOES FALLS. (COHOES FALLS PARK ON SCHOOL ST. & FALLS VIEW PARK ON NORTH MOHAWK ST.). THIS ONE IS TINY BUT A NICE VIEW OF THE FALLS AND A GOOD PLACE TO READ A BOOK, HAVE A SANDWICH OR SIT WHILE AND JUST SOAK IN THE FALLS. IF YOU WANT A LITTLE MORE GO TO FALLS VIEW PARK. THERE IS A PARKING LOT ACROSS FROM THE ENTRANCE AND A COOL BRIDGE CROSSING THE RIVER. TO THE LEFT OF THE BRIDGE YOU HAVE A FEW PICNIC TABLES (NO GRILLS) AND TO THE RIGHT INFO SIGNS, BENCHES AND VIEWING. WHEN YOU CROSS THE BRIDGE THERE IS A PAVED PATH AND STAIRS TAKING YOU TO A LOWER VIEWING POINT WHERE YOU CAN GET A GREAT VIEW OF THE FALLS. JUST A FEW MO FEET THERE IS ANOTHER PLATFORM WHERE YOU CAN WATCH THE GULLS SWOOP DOWN FOR FISH. I ALWAYS RAED THE 1 STAR REVIEWS BECAUSE YOU CAN GET A GOOD LAUGH. PEOPLE RATE THE THE FALLS WITH ONE STAR BECAUSE THERE ARE NO DOGS ALLOWED (THE PARKS ARE TO SMALL FOR DOGS). NOT MUCH TO SEE OR DO. MAYBE THESE PEOPLE NEED TO SPEND MORE TIME ON THE COUCH. ONE GUY SAID THE SIGN LIED BECAUSE ITS NOT SECOND TO NIAGARA FALLS. WELL MY FRIEND IT IS. NIAGARA FALLS AKA AMERICAN FALLS IS ONE OF 3 FALLS. YES ALL 3 FALLS TOGETHER ARE MUCH BIGGER BUT NIAGARA FALLS IS THE ONE THATS ON THE U.S. SIDE. THE FALLS ITSELF (NOT INCLUDING THE ROCKY BOTTOM) ARE 70 TO 110 FT HIGH, COHOES FALLS 90 FT HIGH, NIAGARA FALLS IS 1,060 FT WIDE, COHOES IS 1000 FT WIDE. I REALLY WISH PEOPLE TAKE THE TIME TO KNOW WHAT THEY ARE LOOKING BEFORE DOING A STUPID REVIEW. THIS IS AN AWESOME FALLS. DONT MISS IT. I UPLOADING PICTURES SO YOU CAN SEE BOTH VIEWING SPOT. MY 13 YEAR OLD SON TOOK A BUNCH OF THESE PICTURES. NOT BAD FOR HIS 1ST TIME
