Colbeh in other cities:
We were looking for a Persian restaurant in NYC and found Colbeh on Internet (the food may be a bit pricier). The place was clean and Simon who greeted and served us was very inviting and friendly. The food was good however we were served Albalou Polo instead of Zeresh Polo, I guess we were hungry and did not mind the Albolou Polo. The girl at the cash had forgotten her smile at home on that day, but Simons smile and kindness brightened the place. This is a kosher restaurant and may not have all Persian foods such as Kashkeh Bademjoon. Overall a good food.
Great place for kabob entrees. It is a bit pricey, seconded to steak and seafood restaurants. I recommend trying the place only when your company is picking up the tab. A typical entree averages about $35 a plate, not including drinks nor appetizers. The environment is a bit fancy and sure to impress your guests. The food is tasteful, but then again most restaurants in nyc midtown are.
Amazing service, very nice people. The food tastes absolutely amazing and with all the fancy extras on the side. Best of all great prices for such a big amount of food, especially in Manhattan, Like I would expect from any kosher Manhattan restaurant expensive food but its very well priced for the amount given as well.
Do not eat there. Horrible food. Yesterday my wife and I ordered two Soltanies and after attempting the first bite realized the meat was nasty! We did not touch our food, paid in full, gave 30 percent tip and left. If you do not wish to get food poisoning do not go to this restaurant.
We ate at Colbeh/Paprika in Manhattan on May 25, 2021. The menus on line do not appear to be current. We were a party of 5. Four of us were interested in the stews. There are four stews on the menu, but they were out of Bademjoun and Fesenjoun, which was disappointing because 3 of us were going to order the Bademjoun. Upon learning of the absentee entree, I opted for the Fesenjoun, to the same result. Eventually, 4 of us ordered the Ghormeh Sabzi, and the fifth a shawarma. We were off to a rough start. We also ordered the Merguez Bites as an appetizer.A gentleman whom we believe to be a manager and/or owner came by with Hummus, gratis, which was very good. Next, our server came by with Gheimeh, another stew, which we did not order. This, too, was gratis. We want you to try the other stew. It was wonderful. The Merguez was next, which was a large portion of an appetizer. By this point we were almost full but not complaining.Next came the entrées, which, again, were very generous in portions. Everything we ate was fantastic.I cannot say enough nice things about the staff and the food. Service was excellent. Food was excellent. Nice atmosphere. A shame there were not more patrons at this restaurant. I wish we had a Kosher restaurant like this in Chicago/Skokie. We all loved everything about this dining experience.
The food was bland, plain and simple. (ha! thats a good pun!)I had the beef kabobs (steak and chopped meat) and there was no flavor to either of them. I visited with a Persian friend (not Jewish) who suggested the place, and he agreed. My rice was pretty with the saffron, but the art show should be secondary to the taste, which was completely absent.A great place to skip!
I would say it’s horrible ,3 times I bring my American friends to the restaurant and each time I apologize them because of bad taste and quality food , and I explained them that it’s not Persian food and just looks like , if you could not make a good food please go and search it online , I wish another kosher restaurant, the way that you cook and the ingredients or your chef , something is really wrong about your restaurant, go and search Persian food online😡😡😡😡😡😡
This a classy Persian restaurant with great food. Portions are large. The lamb kebab was great. Everything comes with Persian rice cooked to perfection, available in several different flavors. We inquired about - but didnt order - the beef and lentil stew, so they brought us a complementary serving. The dessert menu looked great but we were too full to try anything. Fast attentive service.
Delicious food really best experience if you are with a group that can go in for eating family style. Really nice atmosphere. This also best if you are going to enjoy some time with people. I hate being rushed when I eat out so I love this place. But if you want your food slapped down in front of you, then maybe go to kosher delight.
Really enjoy the Persian food here. Ive been in the main restaurant and in the wine room for several events/parties and they provide a great variety of appetizers, kabobs, rices, and sides. Ive never had home-cooked Persian food so I cant speak to authenticity, the meat is juicy and has good flavor. Ive found the service to be attentive. I consider this one of my go to kosher places - of course its more fine dining so its not cheap.
No outdoor heaters during lunch time and they will only put then out for dinner. They served us regular tea when we ordered mint tea and then told us that the kosher mint tastes different and its a light flavor. The lamb kebob meat was difficult to eat and fries were premade.
This place is operated by a crook plain and simple. The food they serve has so many chemicals in it that i dont think you can classify it as food.. the department of health should shut them down. You shouldnt have to take a bottle of water to your bedside after eating here. They also play games with the check and overcharge often hoping you dont catch them.
The food is very good. We started with Gondi which was a delicious chicken dish with chickpeas. There were three in our party and there was enough to share. We then had the Colbeh king combination which included a big sausage which was delicious and did not taste like sausage, beef, and chicken skewers served with rice. It was ample for 3. It came to about $100 but the service was very lackadaisical, with a couldnt care less attitude and s tomorrow will do outlook. Not recommended if you are in a hurry, but the food was great.
The restaurant in and of itself is very nice. The food is pretty dang good tho it was quite dry and no real flavor to it. The sushi we ordered was good but you could tell wasnt the best since it took 2 seconds to make.!!! This is where they lost me the service. Coming from the service world myself (Automobile Industry) I have service is key in my mind day and night. The service here is horrid. They say but 1 word to you, they are stiff and upright. Unless they see someone they know, regulars I imagine they all of the sudden turn into this happy friendly person. All in all food was good and dessert was amazing. Wouldnt go back again. But if you are there for parisan food this is your please just dont expect great service
This is not Persian food at all. This is a kosher Mediterranean restaurant that happens to have a few Persian dishes (among things like tacos!) where everything is wildly overpriced for awful quality/taste. We were a party of 6 who went here last night to celebrate the new year.We ordered four dips as an appetizer, and individual orders consisted of the grilled chicken platter (x2), grilled fish platter, schnitzel platter, tacos and other items. The fish was so fatty that it made my husband ill, and the Israeli salad tasted like it had been in the fridge for days. When the bill came, we discovered that we had been charged gratuity twice (thieves!) on our party of six, even though the menu clearly stated that they do this for parties of 8 or more. After disputing, they removed one of the gratuity charges.Do not waste your time or money on this place. Its a scam.
Food is excellent but reduced portions in conjunction with price increases are annoying. Service is hit or miss based on which waiter you get. Wine selection is mediocre. But all the kabobs, rices and stews are absolutely delicious. Also a step up from most other kosher restaurants Ive experienced.
I brought my friends to this place to introduce Persian food. It wasnt busy around lunch time and just two more tables there. The service was really bad and it took forever to bring us menu. We had to keep asking for napkins or any thing else tones of time.Appetizers tasted good actually and I ordered Dolmeh and Kubeh. But the main dish was so bad. Fesenjoon stew was so dry, Eggplant stew was over cooked melted in tomato sauce with no persian spices, and Ghormeh sabzi didnt have any meat. Really poor taste and served in a bad condition. They even hadnt put spoons in stews. I was feeling so bad to take my friends there to try Persian food for the first time.
There is nothing Persian about this place, starting from the bread basket all the way to the food. The food is absolutely tasteless. The only exception being our waitress was very nice and pleasant. She is the only light in that dark, terrible restaurant. I would definitely not recommend this place to anyone.
We will definitely not return. We went to Colbeh in order to celebrate a birthday of a coworker, a group of six.We started with the humus and the babaganush (each 9.5$). The humus was good, came in a small portion. The babaganoush was much less good.We were given two plates with ‘dry rice’. A little to sour for our taste. But apparently it’s supposed to be that way.The bread we had was dry and tasteless. I don’t know if that’s how Persians like there bread, but for us it just didn’t work. For the main course we got the colbeh king combination (80$!) and the lamb kebabs. The lamb kebabs were good. Not mind blowing, good. The combination was horrifying. All the meat was over cooked and dry. The steaks were cold. The beef kebab so dry I didn’t even try to finish it, and I usually try to finish what’s on my plate. After these prices and experience we didn’t even pretend to be interested in the desserts. The service was good. Waiters always made sure we had enough water and were courteous.—— The food is glatt kosher and there’s a mashgiach on the premises ——*all the above is the writers’ personal opinion of his experience at the restaurant mentioned above
I chose this restaurant for a casual business lunch. We made a reservation to be safe, but one could probably walk-in for lunch without a wait. The restaurant showcases beautiful chandeliers and decor. The host sat us immediately to a private area in the back. Our waiter was very nice and multiple staff members asked us if they could help explain the cuisine or answer any questions. I was deciding on a soup and our waiter offered to let me sample both. We had the Babaganoush as an app which was delicious; we were then brought two complimentary apps (what seemed like the soups I tried over rice) to share for the table.I tried the Bademjoun Stew which was tasty. My co-workers tried one of the kebobs and my other co-worker had a salad with a side of the falafel. Overall, the food was good, but the attention we received throughout our lunch and the atmosphere was probably what made this experience a positive one.
They messed up my order serving me an entirely different dush. when I complained that that wasnt what I ordered, the waiter immediately got defensive and contradicted me. I pointed out that it will seemed very different than what was described on the menu and reluctantly checked the order and verified that it was wrong. We tried to order soup, but they told us theyre would be at least a 20 minute wait for soup, which I found surprising and disappointing. The greeter at the door was nice enough. Overall the hot dishes were tasty. The food could have been fresher and it was way overproced given the total of our dining experience. wouldnt go back any time soon.
What a horrible taste left in my mouth. I ordered a steak kabob with rice to go, and the steak tastes like liver. Not only that but the texture was severely Pasty and looked like it was falling apart. And mind you this is 100% a steak kabob. Idk what else to say. Blah
This restaurant has no care for their customers, food, or decor. The food was disgusting, not even the chicken fingers were palatable. The kebabs tasted old and disgusting. The staff was rude and aggressive. If I could give zero stars I would. Avoid this restaurant at ALL COSTS, it sucks.
Great interpretation of Persian cuisine; frankly all lovers of Persian food would benefit from a visit to this restaurant! Go more than once and dont miss trying their great Fesenjoun. Oh, and you always get so much food you will have to take some home for a happy reprise the next morning. Its kosher too, if thats a consideration for you. Loved it!
Not only was the service pushy, and inconsiderate, we were brought and charged for something twice the price of the item we named, and then the staff and manager were extremely rude and aggressive when we inquired about it. Then our cards were held hostage until we signed the receipts. A couple days later I checked my bank statement, and they charged me once for the full amount and then again for the split amount, so they overcharged me by almost $80. A scam, a ripoff, and an extremely unprofessional business. The food was mediocre at best.
I have been in many Persian restaurants in Iran and a few Persian restaurants in Chicago, Los Angeles, and NYC, they were all great. Unfortunately this time my experience was disappointing. As long as we got in the restaurant, the staff were not welcoming and the one who gave us service seems to be very sad and poured the water pitcher along his way for a next table, seems not willing to work, facial expressions are very important, everyone might have many bad times but when you are in your work place make your best, especially when you want to make a memorable time and memory for your costumers who visit your restaurant :) any way, after receiving the food, the Ghormeh Sabzi was mostly sabzi, I rarely could find a few red beans, and little meat, it was too much in compare to the rice they brought for that, lets be honest but the stew ghormeh sabzi was yummy though. The Stake was also yummy but no lemon along with that, also the ketchup was ran out along the way we started to use it, Appetizer was also disappointing, it was mostly unused. Not Persian to cooperate with the rest of food. no Persian bread. our water was filled once but seems staffs were just forced to make a work, of course not all of them. Also, there was no butter with the rice! Any way, one last complain is that, they should make a space welcoming for people, complete it with nice Persian musics, the space looked to be dead, instead of playing two TVs which had no sound and nobody is interested in watching, they must play nice Persian musics, people would get energy and continue their conversations anyway. To be fair for the manager we also got a small gift of Gheimeh along with Tahdik, thanks for that. I hope they consider these suggestions to make a special experience for their next customers.
Like many other kosher restaurants, this one provides the minimum levels of service and quality. Just enough to get buy but hardly at the level of high quality restaurants. If you just want to eat to survive its fine but if youre looking for an experience, its about as fun as the food cart on the street, only Kosher.
Thanks to the 2 hostesses who were so helpful and kind that I went and spent my time and money at Mr Broadway and had a delicious dinner and dessert. Colbeh was empty and not a soul inside, but Mr Broadway was full and the service there was with a smile. So thanks again to the wonderful propeo who were so rude for directing me to Mr Broadway.
The food is always great, unfortunately the people who works there are rude and very aggressive, I just called and place an order for 4 large combinations, like $300 lunch for the people in my office, the guy who answered the phone and took my order was the nastiest and most disrespectful person, I even told him, how can you be answering the phone with that attitude, and rude personality... Im very disappointed, but I wont be ordering from them anymore.
The worst experience I had in NYC. Pricy and low quality food! Unprofessional waitresses made me to leave thos comment! While I was relaxing and having my dinner after a avery busy day, I was asked more than 5 times that are you done? (Despite the fact that the restaurant was half empty) I felt so bad!Never ever gonna try that again!
Service was horrendous - attitude was definitely not kosher. Server served a wrong wine and later lied about it. Hostess refused to move our party with two small kids away from the door (cold draft) in a half empty restaurant at 5:30 pm on a Monday night. Food was actually good but not worth the aggravation. Stay away - I will.
Absolute worst service ever!!! I called to order food for a small lunch meeting that was taking place the next day and it took 45 minutes!! The man was so rude and was actually trying to sell me more food. When I asked for a receipt, he continued to refuse until I demanded to speak with a manager. The manager was able to send me a receipt about 3 hours later. The day of the meeting, I had to add one more thing on to the order. Another 25 minutes later and it was ordered. They never sent me the receipt for the second order so today, I called and asked for it. The man who answered said he could not provide me with that and that the manager can only do that and to call back at 2 PM. I called back at 2:00 PM and spoke with the manager who told me I had to call the next day. When I explained that they specifically told me to call at 2 and its unacceptable to make me call the next day, he got very nasty and said OK, call me after 6 PM tonight. They are pushy, rude, and not accommodating to the slightest bit. What a nightmare to order a lunch for 5 people. Unacceptable!
I found this restaurant on google and on their website the close time was 9:45. My wife and I walked about 2 miles and got there at 9:20 and they told us They closed already and that the Chef had already gone home. After that long walk we got sent away BEFORE the official close time. Terrible first impression with less than good customer service.
I was rejected at the door because I wasnt going to spend enough money. Absolutely ridiculous. Im a visitor in New York City and I wanted to watch the Iran game for the world cup and I heard this place was great to watch the game. As soon as I entered, I asked if we could sit down and order some food to watch the game. I was asked: how much money are you planning on spending?. Naturally I was offended, but I said well order lunch, but apparently that wasnt enough. Insulting fools.
Came here for a business meeting and the dinner was free. Despite that, I think this place is just a solid 3. We had a private room which was nice.We didnt get the pick from the menu as the meal was pre-determined but I think this is what we had. Salad Shirazi, Tossed Salad, Mango salad, and Salad Olivieh. We also had slices of bread with 4 different types of spread (babaganoush, chumus, tahina, and matbucha I think). My favorite was the babaganoush. All the spreads were tasty and fresh. All the salads needed a lot more work. The only one I liked more than the others was the mango salad. The other salads were flavorless. Needed more seasoning. We also had hot appetizers: morrocan cigars, burekas, and some other fried stuff. I actually liked the morrocan cigars. Fairly tasty but nothing memorable. The rest of the fried stuff was too oily and the dough overpowered the stuff/ingredients.For the main course: chelo kebab koobideh, barg, chengeh, boneless joujeh and kebab chelo. The beef should have been cooked medium rare, it came out well. It was kind of chewy. The chicken breast was dry and the flavors didnt really penetrate through into the meat as expected. The ground beef was more flavorful but thats inherent. They also served us three different types of rice (white, green rice with lots of herbs, and a yellow/orange rice with orange peels in it I think). I actually liked the yellow/orange rice. The green rice took some time to get used to because it was heavily seasoned with herbs.Service was decent. They were attentive and came to clear our appetizer dishes. They put out bottles of water at the table already so we could just refill our glasses ourselves. As for drinks, they came about 3 times to the table.Overall, its an okay place. Im not sure about the pricing but as other reviewers have noted, its probably expensive for this type of food and the quality of food youre getting. I assume this place is also kosher because there were individuals at the table that were able to eat everything that came out.
Colbeh’s newest location, its Manhattan restaurant, is conveniently located in Midtown, within walking distance of the most celebrated New York City attractions and theatres. Its ambiance is ultra-modern with a gorgeous bar, wine room, private party room, secluded lounge. Colbeh of Manhattan is upscale yet warm, with an upbeat and professional staff who will always welcome you with a smile.
Food made us sick. Id call it a comedy of errors but the punch line sucked. Chipped glasses, waiters returning multiple times to say dishes were unavailable and countless little things like olives and edamame served without anywhere to put pips or shells. Then the bill arrived and just while were starting to fume at the huge gap between the cost and quality two people who both ate the sushi start to turn green. Cue hurried exit and taxis home to a night of vomiting, huzzah!
Tonight I went to Colbeh! They brought us complimentry, Gheymeh and Ghormeh sabzi. I, as a persian, will say the Gheymeh was so good! Then I ordered Kabab Koobideh with white rice; they were good as well. The price was expensive, the service and the place were 2 stars!
Horrible service. Workers are cheap and forgetful. Never brought our appetiser. And never refilled our water so we had do to it ourselves. Workers are deaf and stupid. Never coming here again! I would not even recommend this restaurant to homeless people! They never even apologised!
Good foodI tried coming back to eat again .the website said they are open till 9:45 and the place was closed before 9 I called the next day and was told it wasnt busy so they closed early its a shame I wasnt told that when I called to make a reservation they said no need for a reservation its not to busy so I drove a hour and a half for nothing
WARNING - this place is actually paying for guerilla marketing it is unbelievably getting dating apps to fake message people and get them to meet there. The date never shows and you buy a few drinks whilst waiting and they make money. This has been reported to happen to 6 individuals so far stay away from this place (if this the what they get up to try and imagine where they source their food from or the hygiene in the kitchen)!
Dont bother going to this place if you live in Queens or Long Island .The Colbehs at that location are genuine Persian ,Unlike this one in Manhattan ,a collection of ,Chinese ,American & some Persian dishes .The prices have increased at this place for no apparent reason as well .They do not even give you the specialty complimentary dishes that they used to give ,which they still provide at Long Island locations .

2022-02-274.5 STARS is what I would overall rate this place. Id never been and the waitress was pretty unhelpful and unenthusiastic about the menu and helping pick something out. It is a little pricey but the portions are huge. There was so much food and tons to take home.i got the lamb which was good. The only thing I didnt really care for was the tomato, cucumber salad. They put, I think cilantro in it and it just wasnt very tasty. Id definitely go back though.

2022-06-14We went for a family dinner and had a great dining experience. The service was friendly and prompt and the food was excellent. If you want great food, large portions and fair prices, this is the place to go for kosher middle eastern.

2022-03-02This always was an amazing place and Im happy they stayed that way after the pandemic.Fantastic meats in Iranian style were enjoyed by everyone, so was the great hot appetizer platter. Excellent customer service, wonderful ambience (which is especially enhanced since they dont play music with a loud beat anymore), - what else is needed from a restaurant experience? Happy to come here again and again.

2022-03-14This place is amazing. We ordered Colbeh and Paprika King specials for 30 people in our office. The food was flavorful, and everyone was happy. For most people it was a first and they were really excited to taste this unique cuisine. We had David and Yair from their team help with the logistics of this big order and they were very helpful throughout the whole order. They explained the menu to us and made sure everything came in time for the event. I highly recommend.

2022-02-28Such a rude staff. They even didn’t bring the drink menu. We ordered Fesenjoon and they brought us Eggplant stew!🙄 I asked for Tah dig they brought burned and hard rice that you couldn’t enjoy eating it. They served the rice in a small plate that it’s for appetizer. I finished my water and they never come back to fill it up again! I haven’t had a bad experience in Persian restaurant like this! And the price definitely doesn’t wroth!

2022-05-26The food is always excellent when we go. The gentleman who seated us was very attentive during our meal, but the waitress could have been a little more attentive. Maybe they needed more staff and that was why.

2022-07-20Tasty, authentic kosher Persian food in the heart of NYC. The menu offers a good selection of different Persian dishes that leave you hungry for more. Staff os really nice. They even have a bar with a special Persian Arak drink which is really good!

2022-05-121Star for multiple reasons. First i didnt like the food for its high price. Importantly, When i paid the bill and was about to leave, the lead waiter came to me saying that “the minimum tip is 15 percent, this is new york”. I gave the tip of 5 USD because i think the food was worth that tip at the end of my meal. He gave this statement as if it is a law to pay tip in New York which is not. He shouldve requested me rather than make it mandatory on me. Poor service overall.

2022-06-28The last time I was here I had a very, very different experience....not as good as today. The food was amazing.....I am very familiar with Persian food and everything was superb....they actually had salmon, which I ordered and it tasted like no other fish Ive had....the choresht was phenomenal, as was the gundi, tadik and Basmati rice....a meal unto itself. AMAZING food....wish I could have had all my meals there.

2022-06-26Disaster place. No customer service. Rude and not professional. They Force me to give them tip. Not a good place at all. Don’t go there at all. Big mistake. They told me here is NYC ,you cant go anywhere and put a tip on the menu…Never go there.
