Adam made our check in so positive. He was quick, positive and knowledgeable. Some negative reviews mentioned the small state of the room, lack of amenities, etc but we booked the king bedroom suite and it was nothing short of an apartment including a full dining room, fridge, freezer, and dishwasher, pull out couch. Clean, lots of space, private, quiet, everything we could have asked for and more. Unfortunately I missed the name of the woman at the front desk who checked us out of the room, but she was also phenomenal. Never received a wifi password but never asked for it. Didn’t stay long enough to try the TV’s. Read the reviews to know there’s a $10 parking fee, so if you’ve made it this far you’re ahead of the game!(Small rant incoming - Long story short is that the only part that left a bad taste in my mouth was the bartender.) Booking through expedia got me a $20 “food and beverage” credit, which I intended to use at the bar. The slip handed to me only said “$20 food credit” which the bartender was quick to point out to me the moment I tried to use it. When I tried to joke with my friend that Expedia “lied to me” and show her the promotion through my app, she crassly exclaimed that I wasn’t lied to and she’d get me food if I wanted it. It was apparent she just wanted her shift to be over. While I shouldn’t have tried to joke about Expedia, she could have been kinder in her explanation of why the credit wouldn’t vouch. I would have tipped her regardless. No worries though, the very sweet woman working at the (very convenient!) starbucks in the foyer the next morning was more than happy to let us use our credit towards some coffee and vitamin waters.Highly recommend this hotel, the beautiful suites, and friendly front desk staff.
Positive: The location was where we needed it to be. Negative: From the moment we arrived, there were issues. Starting with the fact that our room wasn¿t ready until 2.5 hours after check-in time. We booked 3 rooms as a family, so we stored our stuff in my in-laws room.
Have been waiting for the hotel shuttle for an hour and 20 minutes. Still no sign of them. I have been standing up for the whole time in a location where I can see both the taxi and hotel shuttle pick up areas to make sure I dont miss it and when I called for the shuttle an hour and 20 minutes ago I confirmed the pick up location. DO NOT choose this hotel if you plan to use the shuttle!
Positive: Central location Negative: everything. toenail clippings and blood stains on bed, bed spring out the side of mattress stabbed my fiancé in the palm. Trim falling off, teens smoking pot in the main areas causing fire alarm to go off at 11:00 at night. Ants infesting room
Positive: The location was Negative: Arrived after midnight, computers down. Waited 30 min for a room to be found manually at around 12:45am. Family fell asleep and college kids burst into the room at 1:30am as they were assigned our room when computers came back up. Horrible experience.
Positive: The hotel lobby was nicely decorated, especially as it was near the holidays. It was convenient to campus. Wifi worked. It was relatively clean. Negative: Im honestly surprised by the reviews for this hotel. Rooms (and bathroom) were much smaller than I expected, no coffee in lobby (paid coffee bar only), poorly soundproofed doors, old heating/cooling systems. In general, more run down than I expected.
Positive: Location was great. The overall look of the hotel was nice, but public spaces were dirty ie entrance, elevator. The room was recently updated and overall nice. The shower was nice. Negative: We waited over an hour to check in. The hallways were dirty passed out person in hall. The sink in our bathroom drained very slowly and there was blood on the underside of the toilet seat. Party till 2:30am in hall. Stuck in smoke filled elevator 15min
Positive: Great Linens! Nice staff. Negative: This hotel caters to students! The halls are noisy all night long and the decor is SU related. The layout of the room is quite nice but using the second room as computer room, as opposed to a sitting room, was not appealing. Elevator door was keyed.
We had a room here and everything about our experience was disgusting! The lobby looks beautiful of course and sets a good tone. Service was good and everything seemed normal until we walked to the second building to find scraps on the floor, scratches on the elevator, etc. That was just the lobby of the second building. We get to our floor, and trash is littered over the floor and a grocery bag was left right outside of the room in the hall! We asked for it to be cleaned and they were trying to “locate their employee” RIDICULOUS!! We asked for sheets to go on the pullout couch and 6 hours later.. they never came. Some of the couch cushions were turned upside down to hide stains and no one could clean the disgusting hall until the next morning. Horrible care. And even worse, that was the renovated side of the hotel. DO NOT COME AT ALL COSTS. The staff are really nice and sympathetic but unfortunately the hotel as a whole doesn’t have the assets to take care of itself. Disappointing
The restroom was not clean our room The elevator smelled of pot the whole time we were there, parking lot had rocks, glass, trash clothing all over the place. The first night there our vehicle was broke into along with other vehicles. We were told management would contact us THEY DID NOT we had to call them!!! Management informed us they would not cover to have our window fixed but did for some and charged us $10 a night to park in the parking lot . The restaurant was great and the girl at the counter tried to be helpful with what happened to us but management was not at all!!
Hotel which feels converted from apartments or dormitories. Overall great value and decent location. Staff friendly and efficient. Parking cramped and requires a validation ticket (free to hotel guests). There are two separate towers of rooms, joined by an overpass. Full bar and nice restaurant, though understaffed during this review. In November 2021 the Libertarian Party of New York hosted Larry Sharpe at this location.
When this was the Genesee Grand it was one of our 2 “go to” places to stay. (Skyler being the other). Never again. The Collegian is a good location for Syracuse U events, the staff is still wonderful, the breakfast at “Salt” restaurant was great (dinner however was horrible- my shrimp tacos literally had 2 tiny shrimp and 3 strands of cabbage slaw). The place beyond the lobby is *#it. Dented up walls, dirty hallways and bathrooms, stained carpet, chipped paint, broken toilet seat, loud guests, loud parking lot at night. Besides 1 desk chair, no where to sit in room. Mattress slide off frame if you sit up in bed and lean against wall. Now you also have to pay for parking in a NON gated lot. $10 per car per night- new surprise. We missed Bruce from the ‘Cuse! We had two rooms and were only allowed late check out in one. The checkout only bought us an hour on a Sunday of graduation ceremonies. No where to freshen up between ceremonies- in addition our keys were deactivated before 1:00 so we could not get back in at 12:30 without waiting at the desk again. We’re they going to be so booked Sunday night that they couldn’t offer late check out for this weekend’s graduation events? Felt like an overpriced dorm room at best. At $250 a night- hell no!
The room was clean and nice, sadly our experience with the front desk lady was not good. We got a little earlier without planning so as we were doing a state trail by bike and she basically scolded me saying “check-in is not until 3”. We are customers, we’re not asking for a favor. The least you could do is be respectful, we are paying for a service. When we got back at 4pm (4, not even 3), she said room was not ready yet. Oh, so she suddenly forgot the emphasis on the three. Train your staff better, the hotel itself is good.
Positive: The best thing about this hotel was, I guess, the clean towels and bed. Negative: The portion of the hotel I stayed in looked like it had been QUICKLY renovated, there were dried paint drops on the floor. The elevator had scratches and graffiti in it. The bathroom had peeling wall paper. The TV was damaged. Restaurant hours incorrect.
Convenient location relative to downtown Syracuse. Parking lot is shared with at least two other establishments, so be sure to affix the parking tag to your vehicles rear view mirror. Reception uncomplicated. Machines vending ice, soda and snacks at various points in the hotel. Rooms comfortable with modern amenities like USB charging ports. Well-maintained furnishings throughout. The breakfast is included and delicious, with attentive waitstaff. In November 2021 the Libertarian Party of New York hosted Larry Sharpe at this location.
Stayed at this hotel recently for a college tour. Check in was at 3pm but we had to sit in the lobby until 5:30 pm when our room was finally ready . Not what we wanted to do after driving 7 hours. Front desk stated that they had a housekeeper walk off the job suddenly today and that’s why the room was not ready on time. They did comp us the $10 parking fee for that night in the lot behind the hotel. When we finally got into our room, the toilet would not flush and nearly over flowed. It appeared as if someone had emptied an ashtray into it. Front desk tried to plunge the toilet but it wouldn’t work so they moved us to a different room in the other building. The second room was actually larger and nicer than the first room however it only had one bed instead of two. They said they had no other rooms available. The entire 5th floor smelled heavily like marijuana which was also noticeable on the elevator and in our room. The neighborhood in which the hotel was located did not seem very safe. We were not comfortable walking there so we ended up driving everywhere. Would not stay here again.
Arrived at 4pm after a 3 hour drove. The room we had reserved was their kitchen suite, i.e. one of the higher priced rooms. Upon arrival, the front desk stated the room was not ready, despite check-in being at 3pm. We waited ~45 minutes and were given a room. The first room despite having just been cleaned had urine on the toilet and toilet seat. We requested a second room, was told to wait and given another just cleaned room. This room had dry wall falling from a large hole and feces stains on the toilet. Manager then gave a third room, which was acceptable. Despite the hotel having an advertised restaurant, the restaurant was only open on the weekend due to limited use.
Positive: Lobby is newly renovated, room was clean and a great value for the $$. Conveniently located by the university, fairly easy to get to. Front desk person  was excellent and had a great energy, one of the best if not the best front desk people! Negative: Had to come back to pick up something left in the room, (called the hotel and desk person went up right away to retrieve), the next day when I arrive to pick up, front desk person  blew me off and proceeded to help other guest behind me instead
Nice hotel, super friendly staff, great location in downtown Syracuse. Walking distance to restaurants. Cleanliness was my concern. Floor is filthy, AC blew extremely humid air which made the bedding and couch damp to the touch from the humidity. Restaurant is only open Thursday thru Sunday. Same with the coffee bar.
The hotel is in a good location. Not far from food, shopping, highways and airport. Due to delayed flight I checked in close to midnight. Front desk lady was polite. The king suite was clean but strangely the pillows had queen pillowcases. I liked having 2 super large flat screen TVs. On night 2 there was loud partying in the hallway and back parking lot which kept us up past 1am. I had to call front desk a few times. Other than that I would stay again.
When we arrived at the hotel check in was 3pm. The room was not ready and they said it would be an hour before our room would be ready and we had dinner reservations so we could not even get into our room to get ready and shower.. They said no other rooms were available... We didnt get the room till 5pm. The mirror in the room was not clean and had finger prints everywhere and the air conditioner was broke and it Was 80 degrees.. We went to the guy at front desk and he gave us a fan that was like 20 years old.. They would not take any money off the room after asking several times if they would comp us and he refused. He said no manager was there. We could not sleep it was so hot that we literally sat in the lobby all night. I would never go back to this hotel again and Im very dissapointed that nothing was done to satisfy our stay
If I could give zero stars or less I would. I made a reservation months in advance to take my son on a College Visit to Syracuse. Upon arrival. our room (240) had a broken toilet and no Air Conditioning in Mid July. The maintenance man was in our room 3 times and was able to get the toilet tank to fill up with water to flush, but not able to repair the AC. He did say Management knew it was an issue in room 240, but offered no solution, only apologies. We spoke with Rosa who was working the front desk that afternoon/evening several times. She could not move us as hotel was overbooked. She did not get us a fan as requested and constantly just said Bear with me. She would get so frustrated and hang up on us again and again.Eventually, she said you will need to wait for our Manager, Amy Morales, to arrive in the morning at 7:00am and see what she could do. Well that didnt help as Room 240 has no windows that open and the heat rose above 80 degrees. We eventually showered and checked out before 5:30am as it was unbearable. At checkout, we confirmed our phone number and e-mail with the attendant and he advised that Amy Morales would contact us and rectify the problem as soon as she arrives. Well I waited until mid day and no call from the Manager. I finally called the Hotel and asked to speak to Amy and my calls were sent straight to Voice mail. Never heard from Amy, so I will go straight to Wyndham Hotels as it is now 3 days since checkout. Also, Rooms are small. We had a room with 2 double beds and there is no space, not even for a chair. Parking is an additional $10.00 in a back lot, which is very unsafe, park at your own risk. My advice is to stay elsewhere, I wouldnt wish my experience on my worst enemy. Room Reservation with tax & fees $183 - not worth a penny and should be refunded in full. I will keep you posted
We arrived about a half hour after the 3 p.m. check in time,(July 16) was given a key to our room. When we got up there the hallway to the room was almost impassable because of the cleaning staff and their cart and trash and dirty linens lining the hallway. When we got to the room, it was not even cleaned!! we went back to the front desk and was told the room was marked cleaned. They would give us the first clean room available. Its after 4 p.m and we have been waiting a half hour and remind the front desk clerk that check in is suppose to be at 3 pm. and we have been there over 45 mins. At this point there are 3 more groups of people waiting for a clean room. The woman gave us after another 10 minute wait another room. We were quite happy with this room as it was basically a one bedroom apartment for the price we paid. That was the good news. The problem, and Im sure it was because of covid, they never cleaned the room, we were there for 5 nights. The first day after being gone for half the day, we returned to find that the room was not cleaned, so we asked for clean towels, etc. When we came back in the evening they were on the desk by the door. After that we left our dirty towels outside the door, they picked up but did not replace, ugh. We found a closet in the hallway with a vacuum in it. We needed to clean up some dirt on the floor from a run on a rainy day, which we had asked them to clean. Never told us they couldnt. The vaccum did not work. I understand how difficult it is with covid, but they could have given us their covid policy, they never did. They charge to park too which is crazy since they appear to have adequate parking spaces and a parking lot! $10 a day.I would not stay here again. The remodeling on the surface looks nice, but they removed the elegance of the hotel when they remodeled modern and to reflect Syracuse University colors. I have stayed here before, before it was remodeled and I thought the rooms were small. They still are and the rooms appear very stark. If you want room, request a one bedroom. has a full kitchen, but you are on your own for cleaning. There are nicer hotels nearby. But if you are going for cheap, this is the place. Not the hotel it used to be.
WEDDING REVIEW & STAY:My husband and I booked this venue in November of 2018 when it was called the Genesee Grande. The hotel has been though many changes and renovations, yet they upheld their standard of excellence throughout the entire wedding planning process.Coordinating with the staff was smooth and painless. They were always available to field my questions, emails and concerns and were consistently one step ahead. Our original wedding was canceled due to the pandemic. Their cordial approach, professionalism and flexibility in an uncertain time gave us the piece of mind to reschedule and follow through with our special day.Among the many people who helped host a great event were Rob Marino, Amy Morales, George the bartender (Jaime and Nicole while they worked there), their amazing wait staff and even the hotel engineer. The daily front desk crew were accommodating and friendly as well. They were a pleasure to work with.Food was nothing but exceptional. Hotel was clean. New renovations make for a fantastic wedding location. If you are on the edge about booking The Collegian then just go for it. They went above and beyond for us the entire weekend. These people and this event will be something we remember for forever.
We checked in on Friday night, and had a reservation for two rooms. We didnt get adjoining rooms (as requested), but got two rooms next to each other. When we entered the second room, it smelled horrible. We found that the room had a blocked toilet. We called the front desk several times, but there was no answer. We had to go down to the front desk in order to get another room. In addition, when we arrived at the first room, the keys did not work. We had to go downstairs again to get them reactivated. At breakfast the next day, the granola smelled old and stale. Overall, it was very dirty and disorganized, and we had a poor stay.
Terrible. Dirty, run-down, some staff nice, some indifferent. Strange clientele. It seemed like a welfare hotel. Every night when I got back, there were always 2-3 groups of people hanging out in the parking lot. Its also quite telling that when you check-out and are asked how your stay was and you tell them they say that unfortunately they cant offer any discount. I asked if it was because I booked thru a third party or she didnt have authorization. She said a little of both, but that they were giving so many discounts at check out that they had to put an end to is and get authorization going forward.Dirty: Room was not very clean. Wrinkled, sloppy bedding. There were chicken wing bones in the stairwell. I wanted to see how long they would be there before being cleaned. After more than 24 hrs., I said something and they cleaned it. They never got around to cleaning/refreshing my room on my first day.Run-down: The walls were scuffed and marked. Bathroom fixtures were lose. Luggage wrack was broken.Staff: Some good and some bad. I had a 5-night stay. When I called to see if my room could be changed the girl said, yeah, everything was redone at the same time so theyre all the same. I told her my luggage wrack was broken and she said she didnt know where they kept them but she would leave a note for someone. Never got a new one.Apparently they allow pets. I had a howling barking dog somewhere near me on Friday and Saturday night. The portico was continually blocked on the weekend. Particularly infuriating as they charge $10 to park. I told the gentleman at the front desk the next time I cant get thru Im leaving the car there, tossing him the keys and saying, Im out front, please take care of it. I suggested he recommend to management that they put a sign NO PARKING, NO STANDING - Pull Forward. In the end, you get what you pay for. It was cheap. I should have known, but having stayed there before, I decide to book again. Lesson learned.
Positive: Location and very friendly staff Negative: The room floor was dirty, I stepped on a toe nail, the bathroom floor was dirty, the towel bar fell off the wall when I went to grab my towel. The beautiful terrace for dining was not cared for, there were weeds 2ft high growing, no restaurant or bar ope
Started good and then the suite next door to us had a party of over 100 people. Loud music, screaming and yelling in the hallways, punted on all of the doors. Totally disrespectful crowd. Called front desk from 11pm-3:30 am. They did nothing. 1 young guy named , David on duty. He couldnt handle the crowd. Police were called by other guests and they didnt show up until 2 hours later. Very unsafe environment. Would never stay here again. We were not safe in our own room. No security. Thank God we had no children with us.
Nice, but by no means a 4-star hotel. 3 stars is more appropriate. The location was the best for me since I needed to be as close to the University as possible. The gym is very good (the best Ive seen in a hotel) and its open 24hs.Front desk is open 24hs.It doesnt offer laundry service. It has a laundry room (open 24hs) so youll have to set aside 1-2hrs to do it yourself and pay $4 (washing + drying) in quarters. The front desk doesnt have change, they told me to go to the bank.I am pretty sure it doesnt offer room service and lacks a minibar in the room.If you want your room cleaned/towels changed, youll have to request it.The personnel is friendly and overall is a good hotel, but dont expect a 4-star hotel service.
I was staying at the Scholar Hotel because of its location. My son was having a serious medical problem. We were both extremely stressed. I cant say enough about the service we received here. Everyone was wonderful. The room was very clean and pleasant. Housekeeping was excellent. The restaurant staff was wonderful. I left my purse in the restaurant one night and a waiter, Marc, brought it to my room. The shuttle drivers were wonderful to us. I kept having to extend my stay and the manager gave me an excellent rate with no problem. I will have to go back when my son has surgery and will definitely be staying here. I am so grateful to them all!
We loved it here. Got a King suite with a kitchen. It was definitely a Queen bed, but it was for my boyfriend and I, so we didnt really care. Great little kitchenette with a stovetop and every utensil you could ever need.Quiet, clean, and charming. Wish we had checked out the restaurant.
How the mighty have fallen ! The Genessee Grande hotel was just that, grand. It had marble, leather couches, a fabulous restaurant, a marble koi pond in the lobby, it WAS the destination. Now it’s a generic clearing house for frat boys & sorority brats. I booked the “Superior King Suite “. What a joke ! The suite was filthy, toothpaste on the sink, cup of old coffee in the coffee maker, dust on half of everything, painters blue tape over torn screens, failed insulated windows, and lord only knows when the floor or tub were last washed. Almost NO staff, don’t expect to get anything in a reasonable amount of time. I tried to complain to the front desk woman but instead she complained to me about “cramps”.There were 2 staff , George (bartender, waiter, room service etc.) and Marc (mornings restaurant, waiter ) that are the only saving graces of the place. There isn’t enough room to tell all. Your money is better spent at Motels 6.
This place is awful, first of the TV didnt work and the bed was broken woke up 7 or 8 times bc my back was freaking out from the springs not to mention the walls are paper thin u can hear anything and everything through them you want a peaceful nights sleep do not come here
I would have given 5 stars if it wasnt for the fight I was stuck in the middle of while getting on the elevator on my way to get ice. My wife, 4 year old son, and I stayed for two days and on the first night there had been a HUGE party in one of the neighboring rooms. People running through the halls deep into the night screaming and yelling. Every time I stepped out of my room there were large amounts of people (multiple groups of 10+) just hanging out in the hallways, clearly drunk. On my way to get ice I had to make my way through a crowded hallway where 2 groups were yelling back and forth. As I entered the elevator (also filled with people) one of the men ran into the elevator and punched someone who was standing right next to me. And a fight broke out with me right in the middle.. Thank God I didnt bring my kid along with me. Not once did I see any hotel staff breaking up the party. The noise carried on throughout the entire night. Dont get me wrong. I was there once, they were young. What bothered me was the fact that the hallway became unsafe for my child. Probably Wouldnt have been an issue if they at least kept the party inside their room.
The lobby was impressive. Lots of woodwork, a couple pond and other art. The staff was very nice and accommodating. The room was not very impressive. The room was very empty and with white walls it made it more noticeable. The room contained a 3 drawer dresser with an older 32 inch TV. 2 nightstands and a queen bed. The walls had 3 pictures and a mirror. The pillows were nice but the bed was pretty firm. The bathroom was kind of small and the toilet was very low to the ground. Low water pressure but it did get fairly hot. Overall it was ok if youre looking for a place to stop for the night but its definitely pricey for what you get. Its clear the hotel is trying to modernize as the room seemed somewhat updated but the updating seemed cheaply done. Not sure if I would stay here again, especially with a lot of other options in the area for similar prices.
Excellent hotel which is very elegant. The lobby has a classic feel. But not dated. Very classic with high ceilings and long curtains. Leather sofas in lobby and restaurant/bar. The food was very good at the bar and the catered event i attended. The rooms were large and well laid out. Apparently the building my room was in used to be an apartment. It had that feel which was very good. I can imagine staying for business for a few days would be very comfortable and homey. Usually i stay in Carrier circle hotels, but this was very enjoyable.
I was here for a day conference in November 2019. The food was decent and the staff were very attentive at cleaning up throughout the day. The facility is currently under construction, so it was a little confusing navigating the unmarked hallways and plastic tarps. It was also pretty cold in the ballroom where the conference took place. I imagine it will be very nice when construction is done.
While this hotel has a shiny exterior and seemingly high quality services, we were disappointed in the modernity of the place. First, the restaurant was amazing. Everything we ate there was amazing. The suite was nice and big. The bathroom was older and did not have the best lighting for applying makeup. The tub was old and not appealing. The TV was placed too far from the bed to make watching TV in bed enjoyable. The mattress was rough. It was very hard and uncomfortable. Weve had better nights at much cheaper hotels. The most annoying thing about the hotel, however, was there were no outlets by the bed. The iHome was for a first generation apple device so it was useless as well. Overall, more outlets were definitely needed.
Love the newly renovated lobby and restaurant. I visited the Syracuse area for work and stumbled upon this gem. My room was clean and comfortable. I enjoyed great drinks at the bar and had a fantastic steak for dinner at their restaurant, Salt. The chef even visited the table to ensure I was enjoying my meal. Every staff member i encountered acknowledged me, I even got to know a few by name. You all get a big THUMBS UP from me, I will be back soon!
Had a group brunch with an ever-increasing number of attendees, and the restaurant staff never complained. They really delivered! Kyle was our server, and was amazing - made sure everyone had fresh coffee, and anything else they needed. We ended up with a group of 15 women who were all impressed with the decor, ambience and food. Prices are on par for the experience $6-$12. Free parking was such a bonus.
We had stayed here on wedding night in 2010. This was our first visit since then to attend a wedding. The ceremony room was beautiful. We then went to the front room off lobby for appetizers and drinks. Food was great, but only 2 bartenders so long lines. Headed to dinner, great station buffet and food was excellent!
We were there for dinner. Excellent service... The kitchen did have to prepare a new meal for one of our party. It was done correctly. The only thing I would say is that the dining room is very cold, as far as decorating is concerned. Otherwise, a great experience. We will be back.
Such a great and accommodating hotel. Has a lot of spots to just hang out and relax, plus a lot of places to plug in all of your devices. The staff is very friendly and always willing to help in any way they can, and very informative. This hotel is definitely a solid 4 ⭐s
Clean, convenient, easy to get to the University, within walking distance if campus. Staff was courteous, helpful and nice. We had to go to the airport and the shuttle was not available, so they called an uber car and paid for it, which was very nice from their part. I will be back to visit my kid and this is the hotel I will be looking to book then.
Recently renovated, has a modern touch to it. Excellent gym! Few hotel gyms are close to this amount and quality of equipment. They even have a peloton. Staff is friendly. Good location. Walking distance to some food places and the university. They have a small pantry of basics for sale. Good stay.
Not really sure why this is a 4 star hotel. The room was very small, no microwave and the bed wasnt that comfortable. I ordered room service and the person who brought it obviously really hated their job and were not pleasant at all. My tray an the trays that others set out were there in the hallway more than a day. While it looks fancy in the main building the buildings you actually stay in are not that great. Our floor had a huge dip in it that was deep enough to be a fall hazard. The area and town is really nice though. Oh the door man is great and was very helpful with giving us directions or telling us what was going on in the area. Id spend your bucks somewhere else though. If you do choose to stay here try the 1060 restaurant in the hotel the turkey sandwich is yummy and not too pricey.
The room was fine. Nothing especially good or bad. But it is in a management change and leaves a lot to be desired right now. No coffee bar anymore, no coffee in the lobby - just a personal coffee pot in the room with underwhelming coffee packets. Lots of incorrect information. Hopefully it will improve once they settle in but if not, you might want to look for another hotel.
Beautiful hotel with grand lobby and spacious suites. Ate breakfast and supper in their restaurant and everyone enjoyed their meal. Ample parking. My only small complaint is that our handicap accessible room was at the end of a long hallway which is too narrow for both a wheelchair and a maids cart.
The hotel staff have been excellent. The room was larger than expectecd, clean and seems up to date. The only things missing are a microwave and a coffee pot. Parking is convenient and the bar at the hotel is a nice convenience to have as well. I would definitely stay here again.
Had to switch rooms twice to get one that had working air conditioning. Sink was broken in the second room. Hallway smelled like marijuana. Students are staying for the entire semester, and theyre interspersed with guests. That means lots of people and lots of noise. Takeout trash left in halls. No one was wearing a mask except the bell hop. Not a great hotel. So much nicer when it was the Genesee Grand. Stay elsewhere.
Came to town to interview with SU football, Genesee Grande was conveniently located and reasonably priced. They picked me up from the airport on very short notice. The driver/doorman was incredibly knowledgeable about the area and very friendly. His guidance allowed me to get some enjoyment out of my trip, despite Syracuse not having all that much to offer. The hotel itself was a quality establishment. The receptionist was friendly as well and handled my check-in quickly and efficiently. Room was clean and tidy, though it would have been better if it wasn’t freezing cold when I entered. Maybe I’m just used to the heat of Miami, but 60 degrees in a hotel room had my teeth chattering until the temperature came up. Otherwise I thoroughly enjoyed my stay.
Only went as high as 2 because they moved us to a room that at least had working ac. The phone in the room didnt work, and they need a better vacuum cleaner for the rooms and hallways. Had to wait minutes for someone to even show up at the front desk to check in. Saddly the toilet didnt flush at the new room they moved us into. Tons of potential.... Very disappointed as I stayed here 9 years ago and it was what one would expect back then.
While the common areas were nice, our first room smelled like marijuana and the second was rather plain.bed and sheets were not comfortable, and transition strips were missing from bathroom to main room resulting in a small scrape on my wifes foot. Convenient for the wedding we were there for, but probably wont ever stay there again, considering the cost was comparable to larger chains. interactions with staff were mixed, some great some surprising. 2 stars for some good experiences with staff and nice common areas.
Having never stayed at this hotel. We arrived and had to look for the lobby. The hotel was under construction and had no signs pointing out the front desk. After walking around and finally asking the concierge that checked us in was not helpful or friendly. He did not seem to be interested in answering our questions. Our room was nice! We dropped off our stuff and went out. When returned to our room after the concert we attended our room was 78 degrees and of course the air was not working. We contacted the front desk. They did nothing. “Sorry the air is broke.” We asked for a fan. “We do not have fans.” We will not being staying at this hotel again.
The hotel has changed ownership and is changing names. It is not fancy. Its a 2 star hotel now. The room climate controls cannot keep up, mine to 80 had it running full blast for two days, temp got to 61. I didnt want it 80, but still. Fixtures and furnishings are cheap. If the plan if to make it a budget hotel then thats great. If not, they have a long way to go to be a 3 or 4 star hotel.
A high class hotel but the $80 room was very small compared to 2-star hotels. I felt I was not always treated hospitably and parking was very congested. I came with a friend and brought a dog but it was another $50 for the pet charge. Some of the TV channels didnt work and the room also didnt have good cooling. We had to open the window to stay cool. On the positive side, though, the room service was pretty good and the bathroom was very nice too. The hotel itself is also very nice and in a great location. That said, I probably will be staying at a budget hotel with more spacious rooms next time
The room was comfortable. Do not eat in or order room service. The food was not fresh. The chicken was dry and the crab cakes were ice cold. We sent it back and it came back worse. The worst part of it all was the manager did not want to credit us for food that was just inedible. In addition, the food that was eaten made us very sick for two days. The manager threatened to get the hotel police when I told the other guests not to eat the food. Only after we said we were going to get our lawyer did we get the credit. We have stayed in hotels all across American and the world, eaten in the best restaurants and have never, I mean never been treated so badly due to a food complaint.
Esra at the front desk was amazing. She was professional, hospitable, and incredibly polite. My wife and I were staying here for a wedding and the wedding was a nightmare, however, Esra was very attentive and was the highlight of our trip. I highly recommend staying here. The service and the rest of the staff were fantastic.
The hotel is currently under construction. I have stayed here twice and it was just ok. They tried to put us on the newer remodeld side but I was not impressed with the wet smell and the rooms did not come with a fridge. Requested to be moved to the other side which is very antique looking but much bigger and did not smell and came with a fridge. The restaurant food is excellent but they should direct people on where to go while the hotel is under construction. Front desk does not give a lot of information.
This place was very well decorated. However the directions to rooms is poor. There is no instructions to the lower numbered rooms. After looking for a room I was able to view the hotel. The rooms are very well decorated and are very comfortable. I would definitely be staying here again and would recommend to others
Recently renovated lobby and rooms (some still being renovated as of Feb 20). No free breakfast but on site restaurant with good weekends brunch menu. Nice touches in the rooms like alarm clocks with plugs for your devices on the top! Plugs on the base of the lamp as well, no more digging behind the nightstands to try to find available plugs! 7 minute walk to the north end of Syracuse campus, 17 minute walk to carrier dome.
The mattress was cheap and very uncomfortable. The room was damp and warm, and there was no way to cool it off or take the dampness out of the room. The restaurant and snack bar was extraordinarily overpriced. The hotel was clean though, and in otherwise good condition. The staff were friendly.
Used this location for our wedding last October. Jamie and Sheila were absolutely fantastic at catering to our every need. We are still getting compliments on the venue and the food that was served. Complete perfection on the part of the staff, which made our reception something truly memorable. Would recommend to everyone!
Room was clean, room service was prompt, food was fantastic, the brochure indicated a free continental breakfast and coffee bar however it was not free. My only complaint is that it was over $300 to stay there and our dinner using room service was over $100, it would have been great to enjoy free coffee at least in the morning.
The hotel is unorganized and mismanaged. They put us in a room that already had people in it. We had to get dressed for a wedding with other peoples belongings all around us.When we got our own room, the towels had tags on them and just like.. it was a bad experience.
I have stayed twice at this hotel. the first experience 6 or 7 years ago resulted in my wife and I leaving the hotel at 3am to go back home from our night away. We were the victims of having our room in the middle of a bunch of rooms for a wedding party...enough said.My stay this weekend was much better, but still, for the price I think that this hotel is missing the mark. We were there for a wedding and got the group rate. The room was clean. It was well appointed. The bed was comfortable as were the pillows. I will say that the wedding reception hosted by the Genesee was outstanding. The wait staff was incredible (Kelley was AWESOME!) and the food was excellent (chicken was so-so from what I heard, but Steak and Fish were outstanding). They did a great job hosting the party and letting us go right up until closing....where they proceeded to herd the guests to the door ( a little tacky IMHO, but the workers had to clean and go home). All that being said, here is where they miss. No continental or complimentary breakfast. For almost $200/night I would expect a bagel or juice. No, I had to spend $10 on a toasted sandwich. We needed a cot in our room, which wasnt available (they dont do cots). We also had two dead hair dryers in our room. Also, the wireless quit working the first night and they had to come down and place a wireless router in our room. All in all, I would give the reception 5 stars and the hotel stay 3....averaging to 4. As I doubt there will be too many trips back to Syracuse where I will need a hotel, I feel it is a safe bet to say I wont be staying there again....
I was very happy with the size of the room and the quality of the hotel, for being in downtown Syracuse. The furniture is a bit dated, but the place is cozy and offers ample space for people to stay. I would definitely stay here again, with the parking lot in the back and a restaurant on site. Easy access to everything in Syracuse.
Dumpy hotel with a misleading air of luxury at first glance. The general staff are very pleasant and try to be helpful, in addition to the location being really conveniently close to everything are the only reasons I gave 2 stars. My mother, my one year old, and I all stayed here for about a week. To start the rooms are small but thats not unreasonable. What got me was that the carpet was completely bare at the bathroom door (and sharp and poked a few times before our new favorite maintenance guy put some tape over it), most of the satellite TV channels listed on the supplied TV guide arent actually available, we didnt have water for an entire evening (thank god my daughter already had a bath just prior to It going out), the parking is not reserved for hotel guests and we almost didnt have a place to park Saturday night due to a wedding (we got the last spot on the entire property) and there is no overflow parking, the cigarette disposal by the entrance has been overflowing since our 3rd day here. Less importantly but notable, Weekend housekeeping seemed to be pretty bad at making a bed but weekday housekeeping were fantastic so at least I have something nice to say. Overall Im almost positive you could get a better hotel for your money elsewhere. Unless this hotel gets a serious overhaul dont bother staying here.
The description of this place says classically decorated. That is codeword for, its old. Staying here for 2 nights. Both nights, my keys stopped working. Monor inconvenience to go to my room and then walk all the way back to front desk to get it re-activated. But 2 nights in a row is not acceptable. They had the wrong room number in the system for me. Ended up ordering food delivery- for which they called the room number on file (which wasnt me) and couldnt reach me so the delivery guy made 2 rounds. Until I finally called the restaurant an hour later to inquire. So that pretty much means the hotel totally lost track of which room I was in and couldnt track me down. Also means, someone else could have accepted the food on my behalf (but thankfully they declined, saying they didnt order the food). By the time the delivery guy came back for me, the food was cold. For which, the front desk staff said he was sorry it was wrong in the system. And then hung up on me abruptly when I expressed that this was completely inappropriate & a safety concern- that you could have legit sent someone random to my room because you didnt even know I was in it.At the time that I checked in, stood in front of the counter and no one greeted me until I asked, even though there was someone behind the counter that was free. Then when he checked me in, didnt at all confirm the details of my stay or give me a hospitsble welcome. They werent cold, but they didnt have the best bedside manner and customer service skills.Ordered breakfast from the restaurant downstairs for room service- it came within the promised 30-45 minutes. But I paid $10 for 1 piece of toast, an avocado on it, some red onions and goat cheese. Not even in NYC- where I am from, would any breakfast restaurant have charged 10 bucks for 1 piece of toast. That is overpriced and a ripoff.I wouldnt recommend this place, and definitely is not worth $249 a night as advertised here on Google.
Beautiful hotel, nice clean rooms, excellent room service. Our only problem was at first being told that they were going to move us to another hotel (Sheraton) due to a broken ac in our room. A quick call to the manager sorted it out and got us in a room at the Grande. This was frustrating as I just was coming from my wedding, was in my bridal gown, and am 7 months pregnant - we were a bit upset that someone would turn a pregnant bride away on her wedding night, but management fixed the error so everything was OK in the end.
My wife and i stayed there for a night we got the best room in the house they said! It was, great view of the city and quiet, nice bathroom great tub and shower! There was a bartender there and she was an absolute sweetheart with a little bit of sarcastic sas she was great! People say oh its outdated blah blah blah blah. In my opinion they are stuck up idiots, i thought the place was great people were awesome. They answered any question we had and if they couldnt they got it within minutes. We will be visiting again great establishment! Dont change a thing!
Consistently good service. I’ve held several small conferences there for clients and the staff has always been terrific as well as the food and overall experience. Have enjoyed lunch and dinner there (the outdoor patio in summer is beautiful!) and enjoyed the beautiful bar and cocktail area as well. Welcoming main foyer entrance with beautiful koi, grand entrance, marble, etc. Rooms are well maintained and presented. Good value.
Stayed overnight as we were passing through to get to our destination. Pay attention to the 1-3 star reviews that are also on here. On the positive side, the place was clean, but I’ll leave it there. The room was the size of a hostel. The ice machine didn’t work (I know that sounds odd to put that in a review, but when you’re disappointed by the room and then go to get ice only to find out it’s broken, that meant something.) The online pictures are NOT the same photos of the room you end up getting. I wouldn’t stay again.
Our room did not have a properly working AC. It wouldn’t go below 75 because the filter needed replacing (date on filter was Nov 2017). After they replaced filter, the problem persisted because area around it needed vacuuming. So they put us in another room. That room was adequate but after settling in we realized WiFi wasn’t working. Called front desk and they said the entire hotel had no WiFi. Apparently they didn’t think that was important enough to tell us when we checked in.
Never usually post reviews but we stayed here a full week and couldnt be happier. The front desk manager Nick is beyond helpful and goes literally out of his way to make sure you get whatever you want. The food at their restaraunt is fantastic and the shuttle drivers are amazing and so nice. The accommodations at this hotel are outstanding and the location is perfect. I will go out of my way to stay at this hotel again whenever Im in the area.
Service was great, but I felt the menu was on the small side. There were only 2 beers on tap, not sure about the rest of their offerings. The seafood was fantastic for me, but the salmon had allot of extra breading. The dinner rolls were the best Ive had in a while, seasoned with garlic and warm right from the oven.
Attended a luncheon here recently. Food was acceptable. I dont like how the decor has changed since it was the Genesee Grande. Lacks personality and character now. Very generic, grey, antiseptic. Too bad. I used to enjoy coming to the bar to drink wine and having a cheese plate.
Let’s start w/ the good. The place is aesthetically nice, reservation easy and check-in was fast and the room is clean. But...the rooms are very plain and no amenities really, not even a coffee maker😮 There was confusion at the bar yesterday since the bar tender wasn’t there yet and someone else was covering, he did fine and was nice but why would the bar be open without a bar tender? Now this morning since there is no coffee in the room I went down to order coffee at the cafe kubal counter. I ordered there, walked around to the bar to pay, walked back to the counter and waited about 10min for the wrong size coffee and the wrong flavor bagel. I told the guy I ordered a large coffee and he insisted that was a large. I know the difference between a 12oz and 20oz cup, I was done w/ waiting so I just took it. The girl at the counter was working hard and very nice but whatever system they have there is broken. Seems like the place is mismanaged and/or understaffed. Not what you would expect for a nice hotel that costs a couple hundred $$ a night. This will not be my 1st choice when looking for a room in Syracuse.
The hotel is in a great location, close to downtown, Upstate, and Syracuse University. Rooms are nice, although no coffeemaker or refrigerator. The hotel is in transition, just being bought by another company. So, for now, theres no shuttle service. It cost us $17 to take a taxi from the Amtrak station, and then $9 for an Uber ride back. The restaurant also is in a state of change.. new chef, new menu items, out of some things, short staffed. What we did have was good, although a long wait for food.Down the block is Phoebes restaurant, highly recommended.
I had stayed at this hotel last year and loved it! We had a jacuzzi suite and the room was spacious! However, I booked a jacuzzi suite as a gift....and they had 0 avaliable due to renovations when they arrived. I had booked it 2 months in advance and they never botheres to notify us of the room change. Glad they are rennovating, but it was absolute bs!
Easter brunch buffet is always great. Service is horrible. Had to wait 30 mins for table after our reservation time. We had to flag down our waiter many times for plate removal of plates, coffee and cocktails. For 50 per person plus cocktails extra, I would expect better service.
It’s all about the serviceI had a small event today at the hotel, and even though there was sooo much construction going on, it was a wonderful experience. The catered food was super yummy and the event staff were very professional and accommodating,. The staff person who made the biggest impact was the bartender George. George has this ability to bring together people who are sitting at the bar alone. I had such great conversations and not just bs small talk.. real conversations about real stuff with total strangers that by the end of the evening I considered these strangers friends. That is a true gift..thank you George! I will definitely return as long as George is there!
I liked the elegance of the lobby. At the end of a very tiring day, I very badly wanted a bath (for soaking sore muscles). However, the stopper in the bathtub was broken. Im sure they might have fixed it that night if I had asked, but I could easily picture all of the bother, so I just took a quick shower and went to bed. Still, you would have thought that someone would have noticed and fixed this.
I gave it two stars originally, but after a little more time, I thought it would be appropriate to take that gracious star away.Where should I even start... the rooms are clean, and the location of the hotel is amazing if youre doing anything at the college which is only a few blocks away.Other then that, while I was staying, which was more then a few days there was no wifi. Clearly there was an issue with it but there are other reviews having the same issue. There is no complementary breakfast which, would be too big a problem if there were a fridge or even microwave in the room. I only realized how essential this was after coming back to the room and not being able to really have clean water without it being the little tap they serve in the restaurant. I had to keep my waters cool by sitting them on the ac unit... The rooms are also tiny, which isnt a big problem but its unusual in a hotel. There arent really any amenities and the television channels werent even working. It might sound ridiculous, but as I keep finding out negative things about this hotel its worth sharing. I checked the reviews before coming and I didnt believe them but im sure most of them are true.. I mean, theres mold in my shower. If you can help it, stay away. The room is clean and its near the school but those are the only things I have to say about this place. I will not be coming back
Left room at 7:30am, wife left tip and change bedding request card on pillow. We returned after running around all day at 4:00pm and the room wasnt touched. Tried to connect to wifi, no Internet connection. Called front desk to complain, I told him I was just about ready to go to another hotel and all he could offer was to send a cleaning lady up and inform me that he thought there were rolling blackouts of the Internet all across Syracuse. We will never stay here again. Definitely not worth the $160 a night price. Pictures on Internet are way better than real life.
Not impressed with the room... no full length mirror, no coffee pot, no microwave, pedestal sink and no place to put bathroom items, no shelf in shower to put shampoo etc, no table or surface really... basically no conveniences you need when you stay in a hotel! The breakfast we ordered for room service was so expensive and the worst breakfast Ive ever had - burned pancakes and undercooked pancakes that tasted just like salt - and two plates of eggs that looked completely different (one neon yellow, and separated into pieces, the other lighter yellow and watery). We attended a wedding here - the food at the wedding was REALLY good - we were surprised after our breakfast.
Have been staying at this hotel consistently for nearly 2 years (practically twice a month). It is now under new ownership and gone down hill. I previously would have said its a 3.5 star hotel, but now its just very plain and mediocre. It was the small things that actually made it tolerable which they seem to have gotten rid of such as coffee in the lobby at 5a.m. and real newspapers such as USA Today and WSJ. Those small things are now gone. Additionally, they seem to have reduced front desk staff down to one person; tried calling 3 times before anyone even answered the phone to make my reservation, had to wait 10 min. to check in and out. Wont be staying here anymore.
Terribly disappointed. Had been recommended this hotel by our business colleagues and was so looking forward to staying in this upscale old-style hotel. Instead, when we arrived the lobby I had seen before was completely under renovation, so check-in happened in a hallway basically. I tried getting over that, then come to find the gym was unavailable because of renovation. Tried getting over that too, and then the renovated room we stayed in had been botched in quality. Paint job was splotchy, the mold smell from whatever happened in that room was VERY present, the air conditioning system was weak, and the room was muggy and humid the entire visit. AND they had the nerve to charge us full price despite our extreme dissatisfaction. Trust me, if you see good reviews of this hotel, its from BEFORE the renovation.
The Genesee Grande has a spectacular lobby with great conference rooms and a good, albeit a little pricey restaurant. We stayed in the Jacuzzi Suite and it was nice, but seemed a touch old and outdated. The bathroom was very nice, which housed the jacuzzi tub and we enjoyed relaxing here. There are regular amenities that you would expect from the hotel, but the rooms themselve could use some updating. There is what looks to be an old closet that was closed off with just some sheetrock and the furniture was a little stiff. The bed was very nice, comfortable and clean and we had no problems with it.Summary of stay at Jacuzzi Suite:- Superb and memorable lobby- Jacuzzi bathroom is very nice, no extra amenities like a bathrobe or similar, just soaps and towels- Room needs some updating with furniture and similar- Comfortable large bed
Traveling to visit my sister and her family and Priceline had a decent deal on this 4 Star hotel. First impression...Dusty, dirty floors, unkept maintenance. The second I opened my room door marijuana stank hit us in our face. Absolutely revolting. Then, later this evening, 10:30pm we need to evacuate the building due to the fire alarm. Overheard the fireman state it was from recreational smoke. This is seriously a college dorm house that is being marketed as a nice place for travelers to stay. With so many places in Syracuse, pick something else.
Ill never stay here again. My company paid for the room however the incompetent woman at the front desk charged me for the room anyway! $864.00 for a 5 day stay, not even worth it. No Continental breakfast and the room service cleaned every other day. The place is under construction, I hope they clean house and start all over with new personnel. Not worth the money at all, no wonder it’s.not GRAND GENESEE anymore. It’s not grand at all.🤬 dingbat!
Completely short-staffed. For the prices they charge, should be over-the-top service, and it wasnt. Checked in at 430 on a Friday, long wait, only ONE person working. He gave me keys that didnt work, I called the hotel operator - no one answers. I call housekeeping, no one answers! He gave me two replacement keys, only one worked. My kids wanted to rent movies, cant at this hotel. Location is great if visiting the University, and rooms were comfortable.
This hotel is basic. The room had no fridge or microwave. It was supposedly updated but I think that just means it had a new coat of paint, which was peeling and cracking. A tile or ceiling access was slightly falling out and the showerhead was dirty with what looked like mold. People on here and locals keep saying how beautiful the hotel and rooms are, but not mine. I suspect there are some nice rooms since the website shows more luxurious rooms. Mine is like a motel 6 or slightly better. White walls with greenish-greyish carpet that parts have designs in and black different for baseboards. I asked about a nicer room and was allowed to look at a room that was exactly the same. Seems to be the same person on duty when I need something. To add insult to injury, my coworkers at other close-by hotels have shuttles to take them to local attractions. Supposedly the one here is no longer shuttling people at 4:45 pm and is out of service the rest of the night. For the higher price at this location, I recommend looking at a different hotel close by or further away (like downtown) from the university and just taking a lyft/uber.
No heat in room- phone did not work- was not made aware of $50. That was held on my credit card for 3 days. When I called hotel to question charge no one answered the phone .I had to call 8 different times before anyone answered- when I finally got someone I was put on hold for 5 minutes- Finally I was able to reach someone named Amy who apologized for poor service and advised me she would reimburse my credit card $50.for all the hassle I went through. I have called her 3 times and am still waiting for reimbursement. I would never recommend this hotel and am not sure how they are still in business.
Currently under construction which isn’t terrible but noisy and my clothes got dirty from all the dust. They barely answer their phone at the lobby. And I picked the hotel specifically for a shuttle to and from the airport , however the driver did not want to take me to the airport when I was checking out ....
Again, the experience was generally good as in the past six years, However, this year there was a problem with both TVs that did not have PBS nor the ability to rent movies. Furthermore, the selection of TV programs was worse then in the past. There were technical problems with both TVs that a technician spent a lot of time correcting. Housekeeping in the room was very good but in other areas there was need for improved cleaning in the elevator, luggage cart, windows, etc.of the lobby of the annex buildiing. There was actually a level of grime in those areas. This was a marked difference from the past. The main building was better but showed some wear and tear. I had several meals and the food was very good. The staff was particularly good in all areas including a male white skinny waiter who has been there probably 6 years.Margaret Veve and Edgar Rodriguez
Very nice hotel would definitely stay again free WiFi & parking. Nice sized room and bathroom. Make sure to keep your bathroom door closed or youll hear every sound your hotel room neighbors make. Staff very friendly helpful and professional would absolutely stay again.
Upon checking out I was illegally charged for a second night. I arrived for my first night well over the check in time which is 3pm. When I checked in I was told my room wouldn’t be ready for another hour. Mind you I paid 180 dollars to stay in the jacuzzi room. I was offered free drinks which I declined I was then bribed with another night which I reluctantly took. Again when I checked out they made an unauthorized charge and I was left to consult with my bank. I had to beg each employee to speak with a manager by the name of Danielle who was absolutely incompetent and rude towards the end she also repeatedly lied saying there was nobody present that was above her which obviously ended up being a lie, I then asked her for cooperates number which was right on the desk and she said she didn’t have it. I was yet again passed of to the final manager who again tried to bribe me and simply said “sorry” I will be contacting cooperate.
The room was great, a lot larger than I had expected! There was a wedding going on the evening I checked in so there was some confusion as to how to get to the restaurant. The initial direction, from the concierge, was to go just through the curtains... which would have had me going through the weddings Cocktail Hour... so, that wasnt cool. Dinner was great! Then there was breakfast... We were told we could sit anywhere. After about 15 minutes, multiple passes by us, and no attempt by anyone to help us, but no problem helping the person that came in to place a carry-out order, we decided to leave. Hangry. You coulda been 5 stahs! Ya blew it!
Went down and asked for a microwave, never got it. Lady said it would be there first thing in the morning (supposidly 7 am) horrible promise. Hotel room was also suppose to have 2 beds only got 1 bed in a room. Wouldnt consider this hotel. Also forgot my key tag inside had to wait 2 hours in the lobby to get back inside. Very Rude service.
I am very disappointed with this hotel. The elevator smelled like pot. They dont really have much amenities. They say they have airport shuttle, but when you ask for it, they are like oh our driver leaves at 3pm!!! I wouldnt call that shuttle. They should mention it is airport shuttle only from this time to that time.
Stayed for work. Was in the newer wing, not the original building. Lobby, restaurant and meeting facilities were very nice. My room was meh, felt like a converted econolodge. Rooms in older building had more character even though they were decorated similarly. Desk staff was very nice and attentive.
We got an amazing Groupon for the restaurant in the hotel ($50 gift certificate for $25). We had a great evening. The filet mignon was delicious, pours from the bar extremely generous, and creme brulee was thick and creamy. The appetizer cheese board was tasty but looked like something from Costco and was a platter, not a board. Both of our filet mignon were more well done than ordered but still extremely tasty. So maybe just order your steak one level more rare than youd like and you should be good. Unless you like it black and blue, like me. In that case there isnt really a more rare option. Since mine was so still very tasty and we had such a great discount I didnt bother sending it back but if thats what you really want you might have to be ready to do so. The staff was also extremely friendly, but they were understaffed so service was slow. We were planning to make an evening of it so we didnt mind, but it could have been irritating if you werent prepared for a long dinner. Overall we really enjoyed our evening but we probably wouldnt go back without the Groupon deal.
My room was easy to get to and the hotel is about a 5-10 minute walk from the Syracuse campus. It was a great place to stay to tour the college. The only one problem is that one night there was an event at the hotel and no parking for the overnight guests. Otherwise it was nice.
This hotel was very clean but unfortunately too hot, not just for us but everyone in our party with different rooms in the same building. Maintenance was called and made several excuses as to why our thermostat wasnt cooling our room. Double rooms are too close for comfort, singles were good. Not sure if Id pay this kind of money to stay here again honestly.
Not worth the money. I was in town for business, and stayed there only because I wanted to be comfortable...but what a disappointment. The rooms are small, and not well-maintained. No complimentary coffee in the rooms or in the main lobby! Luke-warm staff. I forgot my toothpaste and asked if this hotel (like most decent hotels) might have some extras at the main desk. I was given the toothpaste and told in a scripted way: this is complimentary (que fake smile). For the price of the hotel, I honestly never entertained the fact that it would not be complimentary, and resented this reminder. Only good thing I can say is that the gym is decent. Save your money; this hotel is simply not worth it. The location is also dumpy. Ive had better at Microtel or Red Roof Inn for a fraction of the price. This is posted by someone who lived in Syracuse for a few years, so consider this source reliable.
Ate in the resturant twice. First time it was okay. Second time for brunch it was inedible. Service was no existant even though they were empty. They served eggs Benedict on English muffins that were hard as rock and didnt think that was a problem. Avoid if possible.
Very nice Hotel. Quick check in and enjoyable to have check out at 12 instead of earlier. Only complaint is the windows. Not a single window out of the 4 windows stayed open. They opened and then slammed shut it was dangerous and although a minor issue to some a major issue when you get stuffy with the heat all night.
Fairly decent hotel in downtown Syracuse. Attended for a work event I was impressed by the website. In reality the rooms could use a little work with the wallpaper and carpet, but the bedding and the beds are soft and clean, the bathrooms are updated, and the bar and restaurant are well staffed and furnished
This is my go to hotel from now on in Syracuse. The whole hotel is very regal which I absolutely adore! Rooms are very clean and comfy. Theres no mini fridge in the rooms. If youre a big foodie such as I. You will be disappointed in the restaurant. Service was ok. I asked my waiter for extra salsa he never brought it out even after askng twice. I was brought a club soda without asking (I was drinking a alcoholic beverage and assumed it was water). I thought it was just a courteousy. I never drank it anyway. Recieved my bill and noticed they tried to charge me for a club soda!? Im usually not one to look at what was charged and just pay. Good thing I did. I recommend other dining accommodations. Breakfast was good though. Food and Beverages are extremely overpriced and not as fresh and vibrant as youd expect from a 4 star hotel. The front desk agents and day driver are friendly and accomodating.
Very basic hotel for the price. This hotel should not be more than $100 a night. We were upgraded to a king suite and it was extremely underwhelming. However if you are going to stay here to attend the NYS fair or go to the University, the location is prime. Very close to both locations and to many stores including Wegmans.
The hotel is in a great location near downtown Syracuse and the hospitals with a handful of excellent places to stop nearby. The staff is very friendly, and the shuttle service is an extra convenience staffed by very knowledgeable drivers. The room accommodations are excellent, although it is tough to set up a work space if you need to do any business on your trip.
Love the place, come here 3 or 4 times a year from Long Island. My girlfriend would like to see the chai and coffee spot open again in the lobby, along with vegetarian/vegan options like before. Menu doesn’t have the tofu or almond milk (used to). Please bring it back.
The front end people, the sales person absolutely horrible. Paid cash and they held funds which are still not available to me. What us the sense of paying cash if they are going to hold the funds for 3-5 days for a 1 night stay. I would sleep in the street before ever getting a room there. The only reason we stayed was cause it was close to the hospital and we had already spent 1 night in the ICU waiting room.
First room I got smelled really strong of cleaning chemicals and the air-conditioning didnt work. The second room I got smelled musty and had filthy black carpets. The AC still wasnt great. The sink is cracked and the wallpaper is also peeling and theres no latch lock on the door. I was expecting more for $169 a night.
We had a wonderful, idyllic baby shower at the Genesee Grande. The hotel entryway with its huge bouquet of flowers greated our guests. A curtained doorway separated our party from the lobby and diningroom. The room was elegantly decorated. James Nicolaos staff was outstanding, anticipating our every need and stealth when that was appropriate. Needless to say, the food was delicious and displayed beautifully. I would not hesitiate to host another event here or at one of their other properties.
Pros: convenient location (15 min to the stadium), free parking, fast WiFiCons: room interior could be nicerOverall a decent option in Syracuse. My experience would have been satisfactory if not for one incident in the lobby. A lady inadvertently cut in line in front of me, so I told her i was in line. The reception staff was clearly agitated about this, I dont know why. Higher tone, fast and terse responses, stern facial expression, she wanted to get it over with me ASAP for sure. Then as I turn around and leave, I hear the staff apologize to the lady, in a softer tone. For what? Am I the rude angry customer for telling someone she cut in line? Didnt think it was professional.

2022-06-10We had just spent a couple of nights there in order to attend a concert. The location was good for access to the campus and was only a 20 min walk to downtown. The beds/pillows were quite comfortable. The price point wasnt great. The room was not really clean, we did find a clump of hair on the floor. Parking was easy, although it would have been nice to be told that it was paid and what the rate was. Especially since i did say i assume the parking is paid to which the representative said oh no we have plenty of parking on site. The ice machine. Was broken in the building. When the front desk was told this. They said machines are on all floors. Well except 2. Upon going to the second building i find that there is only 2 machines there for the 6 floors.

2022-02-08Where to begin... first, we were shocked to find that there was no mini fridge or microwave in our room - even $39 per night roadside motels offer this. The coffee bar downstairs was closed every day of our visit (the temperature averaged around 20 degrees F for the duration of the visit, so this was definitely an issue). There was a major plumbing issue in our room and, according to one of the maintenance workers, it was not just our room that was affected. Some of the staff were great, while others seemed bothered to be there. We were also charged a daily fee for the privilege of parking in their snow and ice covered parking lot. This was not mentioned on the website or at the time of booking. The WiFi was quite bad, as well. Basic functions like sending emails were a challenge, due to connection issues. On the plus side, the location was convenient and the Salt Bar & Grill restaurant in the lobby had great drinks and good food (though considerably overpriced). We will NOT be staying at the Collegian next time we visit Syracuse.

2022-02-27When i call to the hotel the service was really bad , while i looking to search for my booking. Due to the reservation department policy they ask like investigate when i just want to reconfirm my booking. Well i believed the management should take some action or changes with this perhaps ?Provided guest full name, check in date it should be far enough to pull a reservation? anyhow i dont expect any feedback from this hotel and its hopeless service.Anyone who going for this hotel, god bless.

2022-05-31Very disappointed, as our stay lasted 5 days with only one day of housekeeping--and that was because I *really* pushed supervisor Jay for it, even after he told me he had sent an email to housekeeping (apparently, housekeeping doesnt check emails). By the last day our 2 bedroom suite was out of toilet paper, paper towels, facial tissue, tea, and coffee (you have to pick up your daily towels at the front desk). Fortunately, I had requested a soap bar and body wash on that one day when we--seeming begrudgingly-- got housekeeping. I bumped into the housekeeping supervisor on one of the days of our stay and told her we needed housekeeping in our room and our guests after 1pm, because wed been staying in until midday during most of our stay. She said not to worry, shell take care of it--didnt happen. I spoke to supervisor Adam and he promised hed take care of us-- how, I still dont know. Our guest spent only two nights and ran out of toilet paper, no housekeeping for her either. Truly, this is embarrassing and reflects terribly on the hotels administration and on Wyndham Hotels.First-world problems, I know-- but I hate dishonesty and false advertising. If the hotel were up-front about not providing housekeeping on extended stays, then SAY IT. I understand the whole post-covid issues with finding personnel, but this was unacceptable. It would have otherwise been a lodging that met our needs.

2022-06-27On a positive note, the front desk employee was very lovely and helpful. The room was ok but there was a leak in the plumbing and the TV features just dont work. No menu and no casting because the wifi network wouldnt connect. You have to pay for parking and also the hotel was filled with people partying late into the night, although I do recognize this is not directly their fault.

2022-03-22I stayed there from Thursday to Monday1. My room was never cleaned - not even once, nothing was even restocked except for towels, 1 time - when I asked at the front desk why my room was not cleaned she replied that they had a lot of check ins so they didnt have the time (apparently all 4 days)2. AC in most of the room were broken (many of us stayed there for an event) - some of the room got to 80 degrees. Mine was finally fixed a few days3. The rooms have a stale smellIt used to be a great hotel, however, it is defiantly not any long. I will never stay there again

2022-05-24Positive: The front desk lady was very professional, and at the same time very friendly and helpful. The restaurant staff was great. Good service and great food. Negative: However, there are two items I find lacking in your bathrooms. You have no rubber bath mat for the bath tub and no handicap bar in the bath tub. These two items are necessary especially for seniors and those who are handicapped. Please fix.

2022-04-01I would give it less than 1 star if I could. Avoid if possible! Stayed 2 nights first night was horrible room would not heat up! Had to light my own pilot on heater and they took a while $20 off for it. Next one of the breakers were blown so the microwave was not able to be used. For the price you pay they don’t even offer breakfast.. house keeping was rude all around I rather had stayed in a run down motel😭 only thing good was the location was around a lot.

2022-03-24Delta flight was reverted to Syracuse at 12am. 150 passengers needed lodging. No ground transportation. Finally get to the hotel and was helped by Karen the Night Auditor. She was friendly, professional and worked quickly to get us into our rooms. Rooms were clean and well appointed.

2022-05-12Wow what a dump. At first I was greeted by Heather, whos last job was likely at the DMV, a refugee camp or some other place that taught her to not say hello make small talk or make people feel welcome.Went to the room which was outside across the driveway in another building. Elevators were scratched up in scratchitti. HVAC cover in room was held up with furniture. Considering it was loose you would think they would dust it but they didnt. Amenities on the wall in the shower were broken. The bed was a mattress on a metal grate. The microwave was all scratched up. Absolute dump.Parking is a surface lot with no security and very dark. No amenities in area and no free breakfast. After seeing the room I imagine we wouldnt be missing much even if there was.
