Only criticism of this place is the server ...smug i can get anywhere.watching bro-douche be swarmy with table of women also an old trope.repeatedly asking our table for another round of drinks (and not once asking about anything else, including missing dishes) to up the bill and therefor the tip ... also old.sad, frankly that this nonsense still exists.
Honestly this place has really good dinner and great staff/service. The brunch is pretty wack though. The burger is never cooked medium rare every time. A chef should be able to get a burger temp right, especially since its the most popular temp. The shrimp tacos are boring, the don’t really grill the shrimp or anything, can easily make them at home. Dinner’s good, brunch not so much :(
Great Latin dining experience with wonderful seating for our family of 8. Server was polite and attentive. All food items ordered were delectable and the varied desserts were outstanding! A very enjoyable family reunion dinner after having been separated physically for the past 18 months!!
It was great to be seated in the back among the trees on a sunny morning to enjoy a leisurely brunch. Four of us shared duck calentado, sausage+veggies, breakfast tacos and one more vegetarian dish whose name I have forgotten. We also had a Bloody Mary and also shared two desserts. Churros with chocolate sauce and ice cream sundae. I have to say everything was quite good. Right from the cocktails to the dessert. Surprisingly we finished off everything. The portions were reasonable neither too small nor too big. My son who took us there has been to the restaurant many times although this was the first time he took us for brunch. Before I forget, the service was quite good too. And it was quite full at just 11.30 in the morning.
We had a nice birthday dinner in June just before I gave birth and I recommended it to friends at the time. Then the owner took a public political stance against a beer and removed one of our best local brews from the menu --in an attempt to do the thinking for his customers. It would have been nice if they stuck to the restaurant model that one expects when dining out instead of dividing their customers with their personal opinions, shaming other small, local business owners for thinking differently. That is not what Brooklyn needs more of.
Elevated modern Mexican in an open air patio and greenhouse. Great food and drinks to enjoy in a chill atmosphere. Recommended for brunch! Good for dates and small group of friends.Pros:- Vibe. Really cute open air garden/patio out back thats well maintained and comfortable to sit in. They also have a glass greenhouse that is covered and perfect if its drizzling or for the winter.- Flavorful food. Great selection of various dishes that seem to be modern and inspired Mexican dishes. For example, they had a duck fried rice (Asian - Mexican fusion?) that ended up being the tables favorite dish. Other brunch favorites included the mixed grill plate with mini aprepas.
From the food, to the staff to the abeyance. I literally love this place, you’re missing out if you don’t give this place a try. The owner is hands on and really one of the sweetest men, I ever met. I only gave five stars because there wasn’t an option to give more. I’ll definitely be back.
Beautiful garden seating. What lacks in portions the restaurant makes up for in flavors and enthusiasm. We ordered chicken and pork. The chicken was slightly under seasoned. The pork was well seasoned. The eggplant was delicious. I’d order that again. Nice wine list. The service was slightly slow on this particular weekend evening. Their brunch menu seems to be popular. I’d love to try their pao de quejio burger.IG: @foomi_travels_everywhere
Love this place. The shrimp tacos are amazing! The dips they come with are also amazing. Mushroom arepa is really nice also and poblano pepper pasta is to die for!! The churros are a sweet finish that you can’t leave without trying. The wine list is fabulous. Great service. I’ve been a few times and even ordered online. Never disappoints
Went the other day for a drink and Im sorry to say but the cocktails were some of the worst Ive ever had... Our table had some three different kinda and they were all watered down to be almost flavorless. My pisco drink was straight up dirty water. Also took ages to get our drinks. But like, went for lunch before and the food was super solid. So, go to eat.
I understand theres a staff shortage for many reasons in new york restaurants, but aside from the absurd wait time for food and service, the quality of this place has gone extremely down hill, especially for the price. i had been here once before and the food was so memorable i couldnt wait to come back. however this time the same dishes were flavorless, smaller, and overcooked yet at a higher price point. the ambience is unmatched but theres no way i would ever visit again and pay this much money for such medium food.
A super cute place that has a nice natural wine selection and delicious menu. The service is one of the best. Very accommodating and welcoming. Highly recommended!Second review: the brunch menu is amazing! I love the orange wine so much. The staff is so nice and providing the best service.
Ive been coming here for years! They had a fire a few years ago and I thought I would never get the best burger of my life again. Gladly they made itand have been pumping out Brazilian cheese bread buns to satisfy all gluten free peoples dreams. No matter what I try here the food is consistently amazing. One if the better restaurants in the area with a variety of options and seasonally changing menu and wine list. The servers are great and bar tenders know how to make a cocktail, even if its not on the menu.
My complete honest review, the food is NOT amazing. Its basic and the people that tell you its amazing are most people who have no idea what latin food is suppose to taste like. Latin food is an explosion of flavors in your mouth. The food here lack seasoning which is very weird for a latin restaurant. As a hispanic, we are very heavy with seasoning. I see they tried to make it fresh but it came off as tasting more bland than usual. In other dishes, the spiciness overpowers the rest of the flavors. The ambience and atmosphere is totally amazing. Very cute and cozy, super welcoming and friendly staff.
Came here for dinner the other night and sat in the back greenhouse section — never would have expected it to be there (and so cute) based on the front appearance. We got drinks, tacos, and entrees and overall the prices were a little higher than what we’d have expected. That being said, all of our food was very tasty. I ordered the pasta with no meat and was very pleased they were able to do that.
This place is cozy and friendly. The service was also great. Was very much impressed by the food. Sometimes Latin fusion comes across as if they are trying to hard. Why mess with something so good? Well not here. The food is outstanding. Everything on the menu is good. We very much enjoyed brunch.
Overprice Spanish food with fancy names that caters to the neighborhood that was never there 10-15 years ago. Owner says my statement is “COVID fearing mongering hate” when in fact it is a fact. What does COVID have to do with their prices? As soon as someone disagrees or doesn’t like the establishment & voices their opinion, they reach for something like that.🤣🤣
Been here a few times and it’s always solid. Great service, good food that’s shareable or you could get entrees. Unique menu items. I almost always get the sausage platter and I love the yuca purée and duck tacos but almost everything I’ve tried is good! Great drinks as well. A little on the pricey side but at least it’s worth it!
Super cute patio area though it started to rain and it wasn’t covered - luckily we moved into the inside patio before that but we saw lots of people caught in the storm. The service was quite slow- we waited 30+ mins just for a menu/to get served. The food was medicore, especially the vegan/vegetarian options - there was one eggplant dish on the main menu that I got but the eggplant was two bites and it was mostly cauliflower! There was also butter in it when the waitress told me it was dairy free. I am just vegan/don’t have an actual dairy allergy but I feel like the staff should know the common allergens in the dishes... The cocktails were delicious though. Overall, cute patio but not sure if the food and service is worth coming back for.
My favorite place to take someone on a date, or to experience Brooklyn. The back patio is romantic, takes you somewhere else, the vibe is just right.I’ve had grilled octopus in the past that was delightful, the duck tacos are delicious. Steak is always a pleasure to have here. Like someone else stated, the portions are quite small but order a bit more and share with your guest! Dessert varieties are always fun and a delicious spin off originals. The churro donut was my friend’s favorite.
Outdoor back patio was so adorable and covered us sufficiently from the rain. Shrimp tacos were yummy and entree portion. Chilaquiles was too but the duck was a bit dry. Queso dish was great as a shared appetizer. Fresh squeezed grapefruit juice was okay. Yuca coconut dessert was delish!
Eclectic Hispanic cuisine. Relaxed comfy garden or cooled covered terrace are both charming. The staff is attentive and professional. We were there on Sunday for brunch. We enjoyed the (local farm) duck risotto and the sausages. The chef, who is also part owner, is quite talented and uses his mexican/colombian roots to advantage. For dessert we shared the churro donuts with chocolate sauce à la mode. Everything was fresh, well-prepared and delicious. We plan to return soon so we can try the regular dinner menu!
Very nice ambiance, and nice place to relax. Patio is wonderful. The food was decent - I agree with other reviewers that it is under-seasoned/bland. Prices seem fair, except for the wine - $15 for tiny pours; our glasses ranged from 3oz-4oz. I never understand why restaurants CHEAP OUT ON THE WINE POURS - its a $20 bottle of wine, and you are charging me $15 for a tiny glass. Cmon, really?!
I came here because it has outdoor space heaters, making it pleasantly covid-friendly. They also require someone to sign their name for covid tracing. The restaurant itself has great interior design and vibe. It has a rustic, funky, European vibe with rustic but mod pieces through out the space. The outdoor area is beautiful and green. The staff is very nice and accommodating. The food is probably a 7-8/10. I had brunch: a warm Brussels sprout Caesar dish and shrimp tacos. Definitely tasty but not the most interesting. I would recommend visiting- especially if you are looking for a trendy, cute, but relaxed vibe.
Food was very good (tacos and churros yum) but the service was pretty bad.Our party of 4 waited 25 minutes for our waitress to come over - no water no drink orders nothing. This was only because I flagged her down at the 20 minute mark. I dont know if youve waited 20+ minutes to be served but it should be unacceptable at a restaurant where you need to make reservations a month in advance.Honestly- the terrible service ruined the food afterwards. It almost seemed like she was purposely avoiding serving us.We watched her do everything from bringing other tables more water (not even their first water) to taking drink orders for other tables who sat AFTER us. The last straw for us was when we watched her go inside to bring the table next to us salt and pepper without even acknowledging us.
Incredible food, great atmosphere and the best dang cocktails Ive ever had. The staff makes you feel like family and Ive had just as much fun there solo bellied up to the bar as I have for a group dinner.I cant wait to come back ASAP (and for now the take out provisions have been insane!)
A fantastic local dining experience! Felt incredibly safe coming in here with all of their clear precautions, and seeing other patrons being respectful of the rules. We were led to a GORGEOUS seating area in the back with a great romantic ambiance. We ordered several things off the menu which were all delicious, but highly recommend the tuna tostadas, the poblano bolognese, and tomatilllo salad. My cocktails were fantastic and my husband enjoyed one of his wines so much we took a bottle home!Cant wait to return here!
Ive been here for both lunch and dinner and both have been incredible. The atmosphere is very relaxed while still having an intimate feeling. The back patio is the place to sit if the weather permits. As far as the food, you honestly cant go wrong. There are only 2 things on the menu Ive not had the pleasure of trying yet and Im looking forward to going back for them since everything else was wonderfully cooked and presented.A+ staff - friendly, welcoming, quick, and funny.Great spot for a date, to bring friends and family, or for a chill lunch.
Delicious. The yucca mushroom appetizer will blow you away, as will the pork belly, very unique bolognese style pasta, and anything with the authentic molé. The drinks lean mezcal but they are both tasty and potent. I should not have assumed they speak Spanish. My server was Portuguese, and didnt understand a word I said in Spanish.
Colonia Verde has always been a neighborhood staple, but during COVID its really been my go-to spot! The outdoor seating is so quaint and lovey, and the food never disappoints. As a pescatarian, I can always find something to eat here. The drinks are also delicious. I came here for a 30th birthday on Thursday and the servers were so kind and chill. We had the best time. I love Colonia Verde and am so happy its been available for COVID dining and more!
Food and ambience were good.We were very disappointed with the service and attitude. It was our friends birthday and we called ahead to request a candle on the dessert. After other guests also celebrating birthdays received as such, it was upsetting when our dessert turned up without a candle, which no doubt our friend was expecting. At the end of the meal when we spoke to the staff about it, they shrugged it off with an attitude and didn’t even manage to apologize. The description of the food from the service staff also did not match the food that came out. Again when we mentioned that, it was shrugged off with no follow up.Overall a disappointing choice - the food was good, but we all felt the same about the service upon leaving
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!Im not one to write reviews but the food is so delicious Im writing as I eat dessert.Food was amazing. Staff gave great recommendations, were very personable, warm & inviting. Our menu below.Les Lunes Wine - Cosmic Blend (Highly recommended)Really good blend, fruity but not sweetBrussel sprouts were so good, tender pieces.Pork belly was crunchy & spicyDuck confit tacos were moist with a spicy sauce.Pork chops were tender & juiceyMacaroni & cheese was cheesy and flavorful.Churro Donuts, perfect balance of crunchy, soft, with a chocolate sauce. So amazing!! Would come back everyday if I didnt care about my weight.HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
I’ve always loved coming to Colonia Verde for brunch, but I want to talk about how great CASA, their delivery service, is. Do they have a delicious spread of goods available for delivery? Check. Do they have pre-made, easy to cook, and raw ingredients? Check. Was I able to get a dinner for six ready in ten minutes? Check. I love it y’all. The carnitas taco kit was a dream come true, and I could just drink that al pastor sauce straight up. Plus, the food comes with really thoughtful packaging and cooking instructions. I will definitely continue to use CASA as long as I can, and I’m looking forward to returning to CV for brunch once we’re able to!
Looks like a charming little dinner restaurant, but looks are deceiving in this case. Dont bother coming here without a reservation (or at all), seated outside near the plants in the front, the mosquitos were abundant. Our first course was not ever put into the kitchen after we ordered, so I cant speak on that, but the chayote tostada and duck taco were so spicy as to be inedible. The same can be said of the brussel sprouts with chorizo. My spritz was bitter and watered down. The paradilla was served in an assemble-your-own kind of way, and was overall disappointing, with salty queso fundido. I found the menu items to be overpriced, and it is sadly both time and money I can never get back.
Yes, this place is the place for steak and grill latin style. The outdoor is lovely and the attention is top notch. They sometimes go a little over cooked with the steak so I would order rearer that you usually do or be very specific. They are super cool if you need to replace it tho. Michaelada is the bomb, the veggie parrilla is cooked to perfection, almost everything on their menu is worth trying out.
Went for brunch. Overall was ok. A bit pricey, but the food was good. Service overall was standard. Definitely not a loquacious bunch. Bloody Mary’s were ok. Not much in terms of toppings, but the horseradish was fresh. The menu was a bit limited. The atmosphere was lovely in the garden, just full of mosquitoes though. Likely just a one time visit for us.
Amazing food and service. Two of us ordered the taco starter which was so good and it came with a bunch of tacos. We also ordered a salad, entree and a side, which ended up being the perfect amount of delicious food. I’ve been craving the burger every day since and can’t wait to return.
We met with friends at this place for dinner. This spot was recommended to us by a friend. Well, it was a winning. the staff were so friendly and we felt excellent. The food was just great. We enjoyed every moment and we will definitely return to this restaurant. Recommended.
Amazing food! the interior / atmosphere is very nice as well. we ordered their famous bolognese pasta, duck confit tacos and tuna tostadas. ALL super delicious. definitely order the churros for dessert, they’re the best i’ve ever had in my life. staff is very friendly too!
Colonial Verde never disappoints, with excellent flavors and a consistent selection of beautifully prepared Latin-infused dishes. It’s good for date night, but even better for groups where you can share a wider selection of larger plates. They also have a very pretty garden in back, but even if you’re seated indoors there’s a glass atrium that keeps the restaurant feeling inviting and open.
Very nice food. Do not under any circumstances sit at the two chairs at the counter in the window facing away from the room - you will never get waited on. Once the server finally noticed my presence she was perfectly pleasant but then never returned to see if I wanted another drink, etc., and I had to get up and find her in order to pay the check.
Atmosphere tops my priorities for a fabulous dining experience, and the Latin escape that is Colonia Verde stands among the best youll find in New York. Carefully crafted for every sense, the environment is simultaneously authentic yet well-appointed, and vibrant yet intimate. The open-air patio is particularly special, offering a true oasis. And the food is (almost) as uniquely desirable as the place its enjoyed, with a selection for every dietary preference but not overwhelming in variety. The friendly, knowledgeable staff provide any needed direction. The one drawback: No hot sauce. I was quite surprised to request it twice, receiving a delicious option each time but neither with the slightest sense of heat. With beyond-reasonable prices, Colonia Verde is one of the best values in a dining experience—anywhere.
My wife and I ordered a pint of the habanero aioli. It was so freaking good, we put it on everything. Salmon & eggs. Tacos. Avocado toast. Even tried it in a cocktail. For two weeks, we thought we could cook. Now we finished the sauce, back to the ol regular food. Its like our whole life was a lie.
I had a great time at Colonia Verde from the moment I sat at the bar. TJ, the bartender, was very attentive and suggested a very delicious main course - golden tilefish. It was a special, not on the regular menu but well worth trying. The atmosphere was pleasant and laid back and the coconut cake with a double-espresso, finished with a neat Islay Single Malt scotch, topped off a really great meal. I will definitely be returning to this restaurant to try sone of their other tasty dishes.
The food was well-prepared and tasty, but nothing worth revisiting. Had the marrow, pulpo, ribeye, baby eggplant and desserts (donut churros & coconut cake)...marrow was the least impressive and the eggplant was flavorless, churros were great, cocktails were delicious
Wow! Colonia Verde is truly a Latin American magical getaway in the heart of Fort Greene! I went there for dinner with a friend and we were blown away! We sat in the front room and had a good view of the kitchen as we saw our food being prepared. Everything was beyond delicious - the sausage and veggie parillada, the poblano pepper pasta, tilefish special and the mouthwatering coconut cake. Extra thumbs up for amazing service and the kitchen being so accommodating to me as a Vegan!!We will definitely be returning here often and highly recommend. It was a warm atmosphere that had that real community feel and authentic Latin American cuisine :)
One of the most pleasant things about Colonia Verde is the unpretentious, cozy and inviting ambiance that surrounds the place. The other are the Latin-inspired dishes that flee from regional stereotypes and instead make for an unexpected, fun cuisine. Great cocktails too!
Once again, a huge thank you to Cyrus, restaurant manager, for assisting my party last weekend. It was a party of 12 and we rocked the place. The service was on point and once again, we ate up the place. Cyrus does an amazing job with keeping track of our orders and entertaining us with amazing drinks Colonia Verde has to offer. I will be returning again for more!
Things not to miss: *SAVE SPACE FOR THE DESSERT* The churro donuts and ice cream is amazing. Dont miss it! Other menu items that were particularly great: the grilled sausage and vegetable appetizer, the arepas, and all of the grilled meats. But really. Im serious. Dont miss the churro donut dessert–that was outstanding!
Lets talk for a minute about the greatest brunch setting OF ALL TIME PEOPLE. Colonia Verde may not be on every NYC short list of restaurants, and honestly, that is fine with me. Because more steak for me, less for you. In all seriousness, this is the best steak and eggs money can buy you in all of New York. If you dont believe me, just ask my man Jorge, who runs the bar at Colonia Verde every Saturday and Sunday for brunch. A few months ago, the team at Colonia Verde outdid themselves once again when we approached them for a privately catered event. After some last minute confusion, the manager on duty went entirely out of her way to ensure that our guests were entirely floored by the food and drinks that they had prepared for us. You will not go wrong with this place. Also, yes - you need an order of the churro donuts.
If you actually are hungry and want to eat, avoid at all costs. Would have loved to eat here based on the reviews of semi mediocre food, but after being told to go to the bar down the street and wait 55 minutes (and doing just that) we returned and waited for another 45 minutes. The hostess was extremely rude to us when we asked her for an update as to our estimated wait and upon reaching the 2 hour mark (and 8 min before closing) we decided to call it. This kind of service pisses me off more than anything. Hopefully some place better will come along and replace them soon and actually care about the customers they serve.** Editing this as of 02/14/18 in response to the owners comment below:“Hopefully some place better comes along and replace them soon”. Shame on you. This attitude of privilege, anger and complete detachment is a total spirit killer. We love our customers, we love Fort Greene and we will continue to work every day and night to serve our neighbors and guests and continue to improve as we are far from perfect. We’ve never answered a review but this is too cruel not to react. There are families and employees attached to your comments._____________Ya know, I will take full responsibility of the fact that I did write this review in the heat of anger. You are correct in pointing out that I should not have directed that anger at anyone other than those responsible for my miserable experience. My heart goes out to the hard working employees at Colonia Verde who are legitimately trying to do their best and make sure their customers have a good experience. Now, having said that - based on your response, it is even more clear that my point still stands. Shame on YOU for refusing to address a customer who had what myself and Im sure many others would consider a very unfavorable experience with anything other than an apology. You accuse me of having an attitude of Privilege, anger and complete detachment, but my question to you is this: Please tell me how I should have felt having been in that situation...since you clearly are an expert on your customers emotions. The bottom line is this: We were excited to be customers at your restaurant. We were willing to pay you for service, and for an experience. The experience we received was that we were treated poorly and felt as if we were unwelcome. If you are so concerned about the families and employees that are attached to your customers comments, maybe you should take a hard look at how YOU yourself are treating your customers.

2022-07-08INCREDIBLE food and cocktails! Everything I ordered I want the recipe to try and recreate it at home. Michelin-star level food (even though they don’t have one yet!) and a great restaurant to go to for a special occasion or if you want to treat yourself. There was lots of seating and they have a backyard too. I definitely would recommend getting a reservation because tables fill up quickly. This is hands down one of my favorite restaurants in Brooklyn

2022-04-26Came here for brunch and can’t wait to go back! The chilaquiles are some of the best I’ve had in the city and loved the corn esquite side. Make sure not to skip on the churro doughnuts either!

2021-11-07Perfect experience. Delicious food. We ordered a handful of sides and salad and each dish was so good. And even if you’re not into meat, each veggie dish is full of flavor. The staff is so lovely. The ambiance is beautiful. It feels like being at someone’s home for dinner watching the team prepare the meals, lots of laughter while being super efficiently run.

2021-12-11Had a great time at this restaurant- perfect lighting where we sat in their indoor greenhouse towards the back, the staff was really nice and attentive, and food was excellent. We ordered the cast iron blackened porkchop (nicely seasoned and perfectly cooked), shrimp tacos, and esquite salad (fresh!) which was perfect to share between two with just enough room for dessert. We ordered the little piece of brazil which was a piece of yuca+coconut cake on a skillet - it was served hot and topped with whipped cream and lime zest. All in all great combination of flavors and textures in one meal. Will be back!

2021-10-29Wow! I’ve been meaning to try this place out for the past couple of years since I moved to the neighborhood...I should have stopped in a long time ago!! Everything was AMAZING, my coffee rubbed carnitas tacos were amazing, my guests smokey mushroom arepa were incredible. The ceviche was out-of-control plus it had a good kick to it and citrus forward. The esquites was pretty good too, but I’ll definitely be try something new the next time I stop in. Also the gringos churros were soooo good and it was served with a side of mexican chocolate. I sat outside in their back patio which was super cute and intimate. I’ll be back for sure and I’d highly recommend this place to anyone who wants great mexican food in Fort Greene.

2021-10-16I had heard great things about this place and decided to finally try it out. I went for brunch and was seated on the backyard. Everything was fantastic: the food (try the duck calentado), the service, the music and the backyard ambiance.
