Its a nice park with basketball courts, a soccer field, a table tennis area, and a fountain spring. Its very nice, the people are respectful and do their own thing
Columbus Park is a nice looking Park. What I observed was people from the community socializing even throughout this pandemic! I was also surprised that across the street it’s the Court Houses and the District Attorneys office. I believe that’s the Manhattan detention. I don’t like looking at that building. Who the hell wants to go to jail. !! Besides this this is near Brooklyn Bridge train stop! Beautiful tall buildings. Legal
Its a cute park, you get to see a lot of locals, mostly older men playing chess and similar board games on the benches and tables there. Theres a cool basketball and soccer field. It would be a perfect 5 star if the local crazy crackhead didnt come screaming at us and threatening us. I wish they would do something about her. She ruined such a peaceful day with her nonsense screaming towards absolutely nothing. Oh well. Other than that, it was a pleasant park.
The Columbus Park is located in Chinatown with plenty of trees, benches and open space. However, It was kind of crowded and the maintenance wasn’t too good.There was lots of trash and the smell was terrible. We tried to have our take out there since dining in was not allowed during COVID-19, but the environment was too gross to eat. We ended up having our lunch in the car.It would be good to take a short walk but we won’t recommend to stay long there.
Its a pretty fun playground for a one year old to run around for an hour. I love the big kid swings and the slide. My one and half year old girl cant wait to go back each time!
Historic NYC Chinatowns social hub. There are daily live performance of traditional Chinese Opera tunes but elder amateur musicians, table games and neighborhood chatter. A fine place to watch the Lunar New Year Parades and Festivities in addition to a resting place after visiting the large amount of restaurants, shops and offices in the area. People of all races converge in this place and there are trails, playing fields, basketball courts and playgrounds for anyone to enjoy year round. Restrooms are found near Bayard Street and near the playgrounds south of Bayard Street, between Baxter and Mulberry Streets.

Super sketchy park in Manhattan Chinatown. Bathrooms that are known for being filthy were closed while I was in in February 2022.Park has a few basketball courts but the pavilion area has your typical vagrants begging for money on the benches and then around the rest of the pavilion were TONS of people gambling with umbrellas up as windbreaks.This isnt a place Id go out of my way to visit if I was sightseeing.
Very safe park in the middle of china town. It offers a basket ball court and two parks one for toddlers and one for older little kids.

Its like being in China. Also, bathrooms.So this place was probably named back when this was an Italian neighborhood. But but now, although Little Italy is nearby, this is 100% Chinatown. On any given day you will find folks practicing Tai Chi or elderly folks playing cards or a Chinese version of chess. Interesting men and women dont play the same games. Men play chess and women play cards. Often there is live music. While the music is usually terrible, it is cute to see old Chinese people sing songs that were popular back home 50 years ago. There are also public bathrooms. Not the cleanest, but what do you expect?

An amazing place! A must-see when in Chinatown! In April & May, the flowering trees are beautiful. But at any time of year, the real must-see is the people. In the northeast corner near Bayard & Mulberry, sometimes Cantonese opera arias can be heard. Almost always theres a small cluster of musicians playing & a local lady singing Cantonese opera tunes or traditional folk songs from Taishan & the surrounding villages of Guangdong province. And always the chessboards are full of life. Old folks are everywhere, grandchildren in tow. Others are taking a work or lunch break.At the southern end of the park near Worth St, check out the pingpong table - If youre lucky, you may see 2 pairs of players playing on the same table - not as a doubles game, but two separate games crossing each other at the same time, each pair using opposite corners! Where else but in Chinatown! Inventive, efficient, cooperative.This is the real Chinatown, not the tourist shops!

Amazing place to visit and just around the corner from the Main Street in China Town. So much going on from traditional Chinese music singing and dancing to basket ball and skateboarding. Every bench, throughout the park, was filled with groups of locals playing board and card games. If you like people watching, go here.

Downtown park for family. Great place to meet or bring kids to burn some energy. Has water sprinkler going in summer for cooling. Typical playground equipment in good shape, basketball game frequently in session. Parents will find plenty of seating after walking all over the city.
Columbus Park is an under appreciated NYC park. Tons of amenities including sports fields, playgrounds and a covered two story structure used for gambling and other activities.The field is astro turf and excellent for snow angels when it snows outside. Watch out though, some of the near by side walks can be icy and slippery on the grates.With a police station right on the park it is safe and welcoming.

Fairly clean and lively park with a variety of activities with playground for the kids, a table tennis court, basketball court, and many friendly people to make connections with. A great weekend or afternoon activity to get away from the bustling city.
HUGE park... in the heart of Chinatown, NYC. Lots of different kinds of play areas for all ages. Great park. Always crowded and being utilized most times. However, the only issue that I would mention is... during the very early hours of morning, and during evenings... some questionable/illegal activities occur.
This park is not for everyone.Its very crowded (so clearly the park is a big hit with a segment of the NY population) so its not always easy to find a place to sit.Also, if you are looking for a quiet place to relax and shut out the hustle and bustle (and noise) of NYC, and you are not a fan of Chinese music, this is not a park that will please you.

Great place to meet and walk around. Theres a lot of Chinese culture and you can find a group of people playing chess. Get some food from one of the restaurants around, sit on a bench and enjoy the view

I love the crowds yet they can rowdy come sundown. Its still safe, clean and enjoyable. The facilities there are decent and has great open spaces to sit, relax and play. Its located near many public transit, restaurants and fast food joints.

This park is almost always crowded, but it always feels nice to see all the people with various activities; whether its old people singing, playing instruments, or cards, young people playing sports in the various fields or playgrounds. I always walk the dogs through this cute, well planted park.

Amazing NY Classic. They have one outdoor table thankfully, as I didnt want to bring all my friends luggage downstairs. Table service, got duck chow fun and boneless ribs. Sets a high bar for NY Chinese food.

Took my friends on a little tour of my neighborhood, FIVE POINTS is so famous for the horrific conditions people lived in around the 1800-1900. Gangs of New York came from here... Now Columbus Park is tranquil, lively and a beautiful place now... I come here often to rest for a moment.

A local neighborhood park located in Manhattans Chinatown. I love it because of the people here. From the very young to the elderly who come here to sing, play various board games, play music recorded or live. This park is very cool especially in warmer weather. The bathrooms could definitely use much more regular cleaning however. The mens room was truly gross😝. Great place to meet friendly locals and sit to eat dumplings that you can buy to take out & eat in the park
Chinese community park located in Chinatown, half of the park is occupied by elderly Chinese who play varieties of Chinese musical instruments and sing along. The other half is a play round for children and basketball courts. This park can be utilized by different age groups.
I met some friends here. It was dark out and none of them were wearing shoes or socks as they’d gotten soaked in a downpour. Nikki had on a tacky tourist sweatshirt, bright white with red letters. I told her it’ll look good after she rolls around in the dirt a while. It will, too
To start I must say Chinatown is my favorite part on NYC. Most people do not stop to sit in this park because it is mainly filled with the people who live in the neighborhood. I love it though. You can go here and watch the men play Mahjong or Pai Gow. The younger guys are playing basketball and normally the kids are playing kickball or soccer between the nets. There is even a side with rails for skateboarding. All of the sport sides used to be more equally divided but this park for me is just for relaxing and enjoying the culture or the people and kicking the ball around and watching the guys skate and ball.
Fun place for kids but i wish a little bit more cleaner. Sometime they closed around 5 pm. Not sure if it is only because winter time.
Pictureseque and serene park in the heart of downtown New York. I would have spent more time here if I had more time in my itinerary.

This would be a great little park if there were a lot less homeless people sleeping and hanging in the park. The workers in the park do a great job but they would have to be there 24 hours a day to maintain a clean park. The bathroom are dirty as well but again would be better if the homeless didnt shower in the sink

I love this park! I love the multicultural atmosphere of Asians, whites, Hispanics and Blacks. Ooh and watching people playing soccer and doing various martial arts... bodies in motion. ⚽🎎
Looks like real Chinatown people sounding time gambling and playing cards in a park seeing. There is separate play area for kids and soccer/basketball courts.Lots of shade. The only problem might be too much cigarette smoke in thegambling section of the park.
It has alot of multiple things a huge red playground area bathrooms and then an area that is gated next to the playground where men workout in the summer then next to that a basketball court. When you walk past the park theres more basket ball courts also other things people , run around various thing alot of space and its up to date then the first basketball little court you see before the park. All along the side of the back of the court house this is located. The more you walk theres a building. A bunch of people playing games on tables then people sitting and this big building very very crowded but interesting. If you dont want to be inside the area that very crowded they have a bunch of benches along the outside as well. Constantly having the park department keeping it clean from the playground to the bathrooms the to the end of the street.

Busy on weekends, people playing ball, practicing their martial arts. I enjoyed people watching there.
This park gets very busy and crowded. There are 4 young kid swings (one is an accessible swing), for which there is often a 1-3 person informal queue waiting. I say informal, as one time, a parent scooped up his kid and ran for an open swing before anyone else could snag it.Aside from how busy it gets (and that its right across from some funeral homes), the variety of slides, monkey bars, swings, and sprinkler area, make it pretty fun for the kids.
One of my favorite places to play soccer, centrally located in Chinatown and near some good eats.
Its a park i tend to walk through but not spend any time in. theres a basketball court, a kiddie playground, small soccer field, and an area where old Asian men gather to gamble. night time is when the horse rats come out, so beware. also, across the street are asian funeral homes.

A wonderful place where you can meet the local Chinese community. Most of the visitors of the park are retired. You can participate in different outdoor activities there like playing chess, card games, basketball, listening to live traditional music. The park is very well maintained.
The park itself is great. Has it’s own unique culture and vibe. Has a mix of multiple courts as well as a volleyball net. Has a nice turf and a huge seating area. Only thing stopping this from getting a 5 star review is how disgusting the bathrooms are. Piss all over the floor. Absolutely disgusting. Worst bathroom I’ve ever been in Manhattan.

Its one of the best places for a calisthenic workout. Lots of equipment and space to move around in. Besides that theres also an open field, a basketball court, a play area for kids. The only draw back is its not covered so I cant work out when its raining.
This park is located in the heart of Manhattans china town. So it is heavily Asian folks there. They play a lot of Chinese opera music along with card games and Chinese chess. There are also basketball courts and a playground for younger kids. So if you are not into that kind of park environment than this is not your type of park to go to. But if you have a sense of curiosity, come and check it out.
Lots of sellers, no substance. But the location is paramount for vacationing.
Chinese musical sounds in NYC
From my visit I had a great time everybody outside enjoying the out door the Chinese people in the back of pavilion playing chess and checkers why the.The squirrels and birds looking for food...they have a very big park with a soccer field ..jungle gym for kids and a place were you can workout..Like lot of bathrooms and water fountains.Food trucks and other food and dessert shops are around. This is a great place to be throughout any season..
There are lots of board and ball games in this area played by locals! It is a nice sight and I appreciate the happiness the people showed in their faces. I would love to pass here every day for sightseeing but this area is far from my house. I removed one star because some corners need some scrubbing. I would definitely come back though.
Next to China town. At the time of our visiting, there was Chinese traditional music and people were playing chess and cards.
You can tell that the gardener is the best gardener in all of new york city. The flowers are beautiful and planted just in time for the season. I am particularly a fan of the table tennis table. I play frequently. I enjoy the exercise and learning new skills from friends and strangers. Its a great environment near great food.
The park isnt the most sanitary, but it is a good place to just hang out. There is a field that is usually held for soccer games (I played soccer here before) and there isnt much in park. There is a public bathroom. (very dirty and isnt always open) Great place to just chill and do homework. I believe it is always open and has great Chinese food (mostly dumplings) restraunts around it.
Nice place to play some sports. During summers they also have free Asian themed activities like Movies Under the Stars thats pretty cool. A rare sight here that is both funny and intriguing is the man who eats their dragon fruit whole with the skin on.
Comfortable park, with attractive features, including large rocks in the border walls separating planted areas from public areas, with large playground and sports areas. This park is heavily utilized by the Chinatown community and has a strong ethnic flavor (in the mornings with many exercising, Chinese chess players all day, Chinese singing (and gambling) during the weekends,...).
This little park in the heart of Chinatown is a good microcosm of the retired life. On any given day, the park is occupied with clusters of senior citizens around the tables. You might wonder why everyone is huddled around the tables. Turns out theyre playing Chinese chess.The game can get intense and crowds can get as big as 30 strong. If you just bought some street food, say from the Chinese Couple Vendor on Canal St, you can take it to this park and watch the interesting people.

The parks under renovation which is well needed. It havent changed much for years. The water sprinkler system is the same as when o was a child. The sad part is I dont think it runs anymore and just takes up playground space. The city should have it reconstructed.
This park was great before when it had only the regular stuff, like the workout zone, basketball courts, the actual playground, soccer field, vollyball field, more basketball courts. Then they decided to renovate the workout area and make it better. They changed the colors, extended the mats, added a few machines (I dont use them, but other people do). (Im also biased towards the workout area because I mainly come here to get my workout in and play basketball sometimes also).
Not to be missed if visiting Chinatown, packed with Chinese-Americans eating, gaming, gambling, and performing. There are always several bands playing, intense board and card games with cheering/jeering observers and Tai Chi participants. Great place to observe and enjoy Chinese culture. BTW, there are also basketball courts and monkey bars.
A dirty park full of rats and people smoking and gambling. Good size with nice fields for games, though. Although the park is fairly dirty and run-down, it is heavily used by the local population and thus serves a vital role. I would suggest having a picnic elsewhere though.
Very tranquil two block neighborhood park.Has a newest addition of an outdoor ping pong table.Well used outlet for basketball players, soccer enthusiasts, mini exercise participants.At times, it is hard to find seating due to its small size.

Its also a great place to get some respite from the hustle and bustle of the city - plus grab some much needed in the hot NYC summer.
Columbus Park located in the heart of China Town is a great place to visit with the children and have a wonderful day. There is seating and swings with a safe area where the children could play. Most of the time you will run into musicians playing their music live. Its a family friendly atmosphere for all to enjoy.
This is the large, modern park which is right at what used to be the Historically notorious Five Points intersection (down to what are now Baxter, and Worth street), although that is unmarked. The park itself is, clearly, very central to the Chinese American residents of the area (it is near the heart of Chinatown), and if you come here, especially on the weekends, there is almost, always, traditional Chinese music being, casually, played on a variety of instruments, or being sung by the older people, here (and under and around the pavilion, a little bit of gambling although, unless you are of the culture, you are unlikely to be invited to participate in that). There is a large, fenced, sports field, where people often excercise in the mornings, and soccer is popular there, the rest of the day. If you have children, there is also a very large play area, with lots of fun things for children to play on (many of the local private pre - elementary schools in the area bring their students to play here), and in one section, a fun water-sprayer which can be activated, even by children, during the Summers. There are two bathrooms; one set by the playgrounds, and a larger set beneath the pavilion. It should probably be mentioned that, although the staff try to keep things fairly decent, it is a public park, and if you bring children, I would recommend also bringing some hand sanitizer (on more than one occasion, I have come across human feces on the sidewalk, complete with used wads of toilet paper). But, other than that, it isnt a bad place to come to.
For a tiny place, its pretty outfitted. There are two parallel bars, one high and one real low. There are monkey bars for different gripped pullups, along with a single high pullup bar that is slightly slippery.There are also waist level bars for at lateral pulling. The floor are gym floor mats so its great for ground pushing workouts.The environment is quite peaceful with many people their doing their thing and occasionally chatting.Also, its free. Best part hands down. A toilet is also nearby in the park.
No other park has this much of a community feeling. Dont know why the park listing comes up as NYC Gangster Tours on Google maps, but this review is just for the park! LOL 😃 Anyway, the playground is wonderful. Lots of great people watching. Always some locals playing music, singing, playing Go, dominoes, and checkers. Really well used, well loved park.

Cute place in the center on Chinatown. Honestly makes you feel like youre in Shanghai with the gambling, smoking, drinking and smell. Very cool place, worth a visit to remember that NYC has little pockets of other worlds

Columbus Park is a fairly large park, located in Chinatown.plenty of open space. lots of benches. playground for kids. basketball courts. open field area for sports like soccer, etc. there are also great spots to shoot skateboard videos. the park has many multi-uses as evidenced by the high traffic once warmer weather appears. the constant at this park is it is heavily utilized by residents and the elderly. also, youll often see people working out in the park.great place to sit outside and eat lunch, sip some coffee, or chill with friends. the park is what you make of it. what if youre in the area. whenever i get dumplings to-go in Chinatown, ill sit here, people watch and stuff my face. hahaall that said, sometimes this park gets grimy and needs a good cleaning. i bypass if the trash levels are horrendous.drops mic cuz i am parked
Beautiful park and i feel safe ..its also nice places to eat in the area especially the dumpling house right on the side block. So if your on worth st or by 500 pearl st thats the place to grab a quick tasty bite ..also alot of people workout in the park .overall great park.. but the construction site makes it very loud

Nice little park to sit down while having a beer. Its more like a plaza than a park, but still enjoyable. It is a place to stop on the way to something else, not really a final destination kind of park.

Great for viewing masters and groups doing qigong, tai chi, chines music and atmosohere, but sadly the city is inept at trash collection. Often the cans are overflowing. The park is often dirty. A lot of homeless people here who can scare tourists. Shame on the Mayor. If it were clean and less of the verbally aggressive-type homeless itd get 4-5 stars.
What an awesome experience! Columbus Park is a favorite for the Chinese elderly to gather and gamble or play instruments. They certainly dont mind tourists passing through to spectate. It is the perfect neighborhood park that really exemplifies the surrounding area.
Great park to relax after a walk through Chinatown - especially if youre playing tourguide! Whenever Ive been there theres always been something happening: people playing very animated board-games, or impromptu musicians.
Neighborhood park and playground in the heart of Chinatown. Excellent place to sit and relax. Everyones enjoying the place. Soccer field, basketball court, childrens play area, water area for the hot summer days. You can even sit and listen to the neighborhood residents, who come together, play and sing their cultural songs using traditional instruments. Love the feel of this place. My family and I come here everytime were in the area.
Good gathering spot in Chinatown!
A small park in lower Manhattan with a number of courts for public use as well as public restrooms (use at your own risk - they are safe, but not very clean). This is a nice place to take a break from the hustle of the city.
We went on a Friday night there were some good shows playing but there was only one ticket window open and we waited on line for a good 40 mins. I would have to say try and get there at least 1 hr prior to the start of your movie.
Since I cant add photos of Chinatown I just add to Columbus park. The park is great for all ages. Chinatown have lots of great restaurants to eat at so dont get discourage to try everything. Lots to see if your a tourist of Chinatown around and great local spots to get a piece of new York from the little statue of statue liberty to I love ny shirts to key chains and magnets. Overall great for tourist and lots to explore.
This park, if you look close enough, is filled with artistic talent. Ive been going to this park for years and people come here to play mah jung and also DANCE. Yes, they give dance lessons here. Come by and check it out but Im not sure of how they go about giving the dance lessons but Ive seen people give various dance lessons here. There is also SPORTS, as many sports teams come here to play. I also seen samurai meditation go on here. At the side of the park, local artists hang their paintings as well. This is a come see for yourself type of parks.
A very active park. Depending on the season you would see different group out here whether they are doing thai chi or exercising. Young and old frequent this park.
A place where cohort and inter-generational groups may gather and share common history and cultural values. Sit and see how we are more alike than different. There is something to learn each time one takes to observe how we each get along.
This is the quintessential urban neighborhood park, with the Chinatown atmosphere and feel thrown in for good measure. Always something interesting going on, and nice enough playgrounds for the kids. Very photogenic.

There’s a lot of bird poop on the seats and the pavilion is pretty mundane but it has lots of old Asian people playing traditional games and it is wonderful to see how engaged they are in each of them.
Best park in New York City!
Overcrowded on the weekends. Lady was feeding her kid lunch on the swing like a high chair while kids were waiting to actually use the swing to um..... swing on it. Theres a great jerky place across the street called Jungs that makes it worth grabbing a bite and listening to the old folks play some decent Chinese folk songs.
Love the attendees...so diverse, many amenities like checkers or chess, football (American or the rest of the planets versions of football), baseball, play area with 2 large jungle gyms with swing sets for the kids...and near restaurants and shops of Chinatown and Little Italy.
Great community park. Has large field for soccer and other sports. Good place for seniors to hang out as well as for young kids.
Grab some ice cream from the Chinatown Ice Cream Factory and walk over for rest and people watching. During the warm months there are groups of older musicians playing a variety of instruments. All year round there are the tables crowded with little old men and women playing ferocious rounds of cards. Across from the tables you can watch kids play soccer. Its a lovely family park filled with Chinatown locals.

I love this park!!! Columbus park, by the outskirts of NYCs Chinatown has a lot of diversity. You get all walks of life here.On one end of the park, you have your local elders playing (and singing) old Chinese folk songs. On the opposite end of the park, you have your basketball courts and a little monkey bar area. Right in the middle is the astro-turf soccer field.My interest is the basketball court and monkey bars!The basketball courts here arent as crowded as the one in the park by the Grand Street D train station. And I find people arent as serious here. Its a great place to shoot around.But the main reason I come to this park is for the monkey bars. My buddies and I have ghetto workouts here. We use the monkey bars for pullups. Because the monkey bars are mostly unoccupied, we can run through our routine of body weight workouts without having to be interrupted. Sometimes we get some locals joining in our workouts. Although, they dont speak much English, they try to mimic our workout and we welcome them with open arms!!!
Columbus Park in Chinatown is culturally very Chinese, duh. Oftentimes you will see Chinese opera instrumentalists who will accompany amateur singers, fortune tellers on the periphery of the park, early morning Tai Chi or Qigong practitioners, and often a good deal of surreptitious gambling, with more kibbitzers than players. I took this photo of a guy just chillin, and lots of people do that too.
This park is a must visit for the atmosphere generated by the Chinese men and women playing Chinese Checkers and Chess. There is also a great musical quartet of Chinese men playing the erhu (a two-stringed violin-type instrument), banjos and flute. The banjos and erhu are covered with snake skin. Chinese tunes are not the only ones they play. Sometimes they are accompanied by singers. You will leave the park with a smile on your face.
If you want a small packed park, then go here. (Great Pokemon pop up if your into that and it is lured pretty well). This park is definitely in the middle of china town but that is not a problem.

Nice little neighborhood park. Lots going on here from Taichi, Soccer, Basketball and Softball. Locals can be seen playing cards, mahjong, and checkers. Or it can be a nice place to decompress from Jury Service!

Great shades and benches in the center of New Yorks Chinatown. Come here for lunch take-out. Lots of Chinese people of different ages are here. Good vibes. But the bathroom smells and needs cleaning

Cool little park with a great history of being the historically most crime filled block until it was leveled and turned into a park. Somewhat dingy but its a little oasis in between city hall and Chinatown.
Basically the heart of Chinatown. If you arnt a Chinatown native this might be more of a sight to see than a place to relax with friends. Bathrooms are available but not the most luxurious. Sports field is great.
Vibrant and well-used community park, a great spot for people watching. Could be cleaner and tidier in places. Public restrooms leave much to be desired but at least they’re available.

So, the only reason Im giving this a 3 star is because its not a park that I imagine. Its more of a place for kids to go and play basketball and maybe a little soccer. It was crowded. I wouldnt need to go back here again.

This park has been rejuvenated and cleaned up since some years ago. There is a soccer field and a volley ball court next to a concrete slab that has been redesigned with a pavilion and a walking area. On short walk-through, I couldnt help but wander through the park and take in the sights as chinese street performers, Tai Chi in the pavilion, chinese checkers and card games. I indeed admire the ferverent dedication Chinese people have to playing cards and Chinese chess. Sunny, cloudy, rainy or butt freezing cold - theyre here.****
It was pretty cool to visit the park bc it seemed like we were in China. The sights and sounds were great. Loved it. It couldve been a little cleaner though.

Multiple basketball courts, a playground, a turf field, a tree shaded sitting area and a pavilion, this park is well equipped.In the morning people use it to practice tai chi, so dont be surprised when you see somebody wielding a sword (Jian) before youve had a cup of coffee.As the day progresses school children are brought in for recreation, the tables are occupied by people playing chess, dominoes, & mahjong, the courts are busy with pickup games.The rodents are conspicuous, but they mainly keep to the burrowers near the trees.Fortune tellers and traditional musicians add to the vibrant cultural atmosphere.
You can watch the Chinese community enjoying the day. Games music and sports. Avoid the toilets. The city should be ashamed that the facilities are so neglected.

Court Officers, NYPD, Corrections Dept., lawyers, and the ADA office.So i think Columbus Park is by far 1 of the safest parks in NYC if not the safest. During the daytime if course.Do visit Columbus Park and take a load off your feet when sightseeing in downtown Manhattan, Chinatown and little Italy.
A Chinese park with soccer field and childrens section. Very crowdy during weekend with people playing Chinese chess. Right in Chinatown with good restaurants around. Very close to little Italy.

This, though in the middle of Chinatown is the most New York and used park in the city! The importance of this park to the community; Chinese and formerly Italian and the Civic community cannot be underestimated! From dawn to dusk it is filled with the life of the community. At dawn Chinese come out to do Tai Chi with swords yet! It is wonderful to see! The old men and women come to play Mah jong and smoke cigarrettes and talk. The children and schools use the park all day and the field is always being used. Workers eat their lunch here and very cheap chinese buns from bakeries and dumplings for a dollar are also available.Sometimes a chinese band is playing by the pavillion. And there is usually a funeral march with a marching band going by on Mott St. The Real N.Y.!
4/13/14:I was only able to stay for a little bit, but it was great to see part of the Chinese/Asian community conversing. It was also great to see the established history represented in the landscape of the park.
Best park for Calisthenics in Chinatown.
There are three sections to this park. There are the playground with basketball, then the middle is the soccer field and the last one is the seating area full of seniors playing card games.

Columbus Park is a culturally rich and eye-opening space in the area formerly known as Five Points. Walking through the park, youll find Chinese folk singers, families having picnics, checker playing families, and street vendors.
60% of the park is just a huge playground. Rest is usually occupied with people playing on play boards embedded into the tables for Chinese Games. There is a statue of Sun Yat-sen.
Lorenzo Z Tartaglia have been visiting this wonderfully enchanting park since perhaps the 1970s or earlier. This place was once upon a time a part of the old Italian neighborhood known as little Italy. But no longer. Most all of us real Italians (born in Italy) have moved out. It has now become a Chinese park. And they have done a wonderful job in maintaining and transforming it into a Chinese cultural treasure. It has truly become a gem of Chinatown, here within NYC. We Italians no longer deserve the right to be honored by incorrectly continuing to name this park Columbus park. It should be most appropriately renamed to Dr Sun, Yat-Sen Park. Who brought democratic freedom to great nation of China. In his spirit (Dr Sun) my heart, my love, my prayers are for the freedom of all people on this planet.

2022-06-23Went to NFTBA for a basketball tournament, really great vibe and very interactive. The park was spacious. Really had the New York essence! Good for shooting around and relaxing. One thing be aware of homeless people in the park they can be pushy. Otherwise it’s great for the youth!

2022-02-21Its a public park that usually has at least one group of ladies playing Chinese folk music on traditional instruments for some extra income. On non-event days the Pagoda in the middle might have an event going on for locals. Go, Chess, cards, dominoes, and other games are usually going on at the tables. The seniors in the area keep this park clean and use it a lot. The courts and childrens playground are also well kept and almost always in use by someone. No one was playing basketball today so the skaters took it over and were practicing kickflips, and other tricks for a while.

2021-07-19Unbelievable to think this was once where five streets came together connecting different immigrant neighborhoods - hence the name “FIVE POINTS” - the most notorious slum in New York City. Our family visited this park on our amazing tour of Chinatown, Little Italy & Five Points with “Thermo Sage” learned so much!!!!!! While visitng this park go get some iconic dumplings 🥟 at “Fried Dumplings” which is just down the street from here.

2022-05-28Columbus park is an older park with a layout reminiscent of old school NYC playgrounds. The problem is that it has a lot of the problems of old school NYC playgrounds. There are a lot of entrances that are open to pedestrian traffic and may be unsuitable for very young children if left unsupervised. It also has a lot of tripping hazards and lacks many of the newer amenities of other playgrounds. This is great example of how the city spends money on government building in the area, but not for the amenities of the neighborhoods.
