Our show was amazing!!! We didn’t know if we’d see a significant difference in this more well known venue and others around NY, but there definitely was. Every comedian here was truly hilarious and amazing!! And then Chris Rock just shows up randomly and does an hour set!! Wow. The venue is intimate and they pack you in there, but man, what an experience!
Iconic place. Had a great time on Wednesday night, 7:30 show. Didnt reserve a seat, but we were third in the line and got a good seat. Its snug, but thats part of the charm of the club. Your phone is put in a enveloppe, you get a seat assigned and order some drinks. Had a great line-up. If youre lucky there are some big names dropping by for a short set.
EDIT: emailed the owner based on below comment - no response :-(Looked for a fun evening w/ my family. The basement is cramped, people on each others laps. We got lucky to get in “stand-by” and witnessed a guy “paying” his way in by “bribing”- after being told it’s full. Sadly, that company was placed at our table. He was obnoxious and aggressive, in my husband’s face all night, pushing him/ attacking him, being in his space - staff did very little - also everyone noticed including the comedian. Security tried to remove him but let him back in. (Hopefully not being paid off) - we felt unsafe during the performance and his company kept apologizing for his poor behavior. He was NOT removed by security until end of show. Several guests came up to us after the show apologizing for what they witnessed😞 and stating “they felt bad for us”. Unbelievable that the club took not more serious action and has no safety measures. We tried to ignore it but could have easily escalated - he was clearly on some drugs. We were worried about leaving and a security guard stayed w/ us until a ride picked us up. No safety protocol. Terrible experience.
We waited almost an hour in line. Got in and was enjoying the show and being more vocal than I guess was desired (not heckling). The waitress asked us to be quiet and, only laugh and we immediately stopped . Minutes later the staff kicked us out. I felt a sense of elitism. If youre gonna go here, make sure to shut up and enjoy the show!
Iconic and amazing comedy lineups. I recommend getting a reservation far in advance. Even Sunday nights there were people in the walk up line that weren’t able to get in. If you do the walk up line, plan to start lining up 1-2 hours before showtime for a chance to get in McDougal St.
I love this place! My wife and I came here roughly 7 years ago to celebrate her birthday (before she became my wife), and we always remembered having a great time. There was so much nostalgia coming back the other night. The crazier part is we bought some stand ups from Louis Ck’s website recently and thought it’ll be so cool if we can see him one day live. Next thing you know…the last act was performed by the man himself, Louis CK. We were so ecstatic when he got on stage being only five feet away from him! All the comedians that night were great love love love this place and certainly will be coming back with our friends next time. Thank you Comedy Cellar for all that you do! Keep up the great work. PS: Their food is amazing as well I have nothing bad to say about them and I’m a picky person :).
Was worried about the bad reviews but it was awesome. Comedians are great. We made reservations at 7pm to avoid the crowds. Next time would probably go bit later. Workers are nice enough. The bouncers can get aggressive organizing the lines but after seeing how clueless most people waiting are, so would I. Def get reservations 1-2 months in advance to avoid the craziness outside trying to get in.
The beer was cold and some of the comics were amazing. However, the staff were very rude and quick to quiet us down when we were engaged in the joke and laughing. Comedy is a two way street and when a comic engages with the audience its not a crime to engage back with the comic in relation to the joke. Most of the comics were fantastic and thrived with the fan involvement while the staff targeted some fans to prevent their engagement with the jokes. I wish I could recommend this place, but until there is fundamental changes in the management I think the fans who pay good money for entertainment will be disappointed.
Good to see you again Comedy Cellar...Wait, do I really NEED to review THE comedy cellar??_ Ill give it a shot...This is a comedy club. Once every few years I find myself there. The comics are always funny.I guarantee this is an experience you want.Small, intimate place. Seating is practically shoulder to shoulder.Surprisingly, food is actually good. Try the Mac and Cheese...Drinks are also ok.
Hands down, the best comedy club on the planet. Even if you dont recognize a single name on the lineup, you can rest assured they are hilarious and youll have a fantastic time. I cant count how many times Ive been to the Cellar, and it has never, ever disappointed. Its simply the best!P.S. dont be discouraged if you cannot snag a RSVP for a show ahead of time. If you get to the show early enough (usually an hour or so ahead of time), you can get in via standby. Its honestly worth the wait!
My first time here! I don’t think I’ll be coming back because I’m not from NY but it’s definitely a night to remember. Sort of annoying that you have to buy two drinks. Props to the Server whom was able to do a great job despite being a crammed place. Felt like we were canned sardines who had laughing gas. I got lucky to see surprise guest Chris Rock!
I wonder what happened to comedy cellar- we were happy to return after the pandemic but instead of selling out every inch of the cellar to tourists and turning it into a money machine, the owners should’ve preserved the original intimate spirit. i am sad to say it has turned into a full on tourist trap. this is absolutely no judgement on the great comics but we will look for other venues in the future.
I thought I would have a great time with my husband who is deploying for the year but that wasn’t the case. A white lady with bangs told us not to respond to jokes which were so funny. Then the last set a heavier white lady told us to leave because we responded and laughed out loud to another comedian. Some of the comedians were great but this was so disappointing. We weren’t heckling, being rude or offensive. Unfortunately the talent that was provided was skewed due to the service. I felt like we couldn’t laugh out loud and sat there as if we were on egg shells.Shout out to the bouncers who were able to manage chaos with reservations that we booked versus standby madness outside.
Best experience ever!!! It was my first time in New York and everything from the venue, the staff, and the comedians was top notch. Everyone was kind and so funny! Chris Rock showed up and it was HYSTERICAL!!! We thought he was going to be on for like 20 minutes and he was on for at least an hour or hour and a half. What a phenomenal show! We will be back the next time we’re in New York!!!
Havent been here for a few years - even though the whole comedy scene has been censored and dragged under by the offended and cancel culture movements, was nice and fresh to see the comedians not give a F here and go all out. Some of those jokes were pretty extreme 😂 Awesome
I came to the 1130p show Monday(1/25/22) I had a great time in the cafe next door before the show. The bartender had friendly conversation waiting. We were lucky enough to have reservations and get a front table for the set. Matt was MC of the late show and did a good job warming things up and telling the snotty loud jerks off stage to shut up. This eventually culminated in them being kicked out. All of the comedians were hilarious and we were TREATED to an extra special surprise guest who had just done MSG theatre hours earlier. I really had a swell time and look forward to returning. Thank you to the owner who told me I looked like Gary Oldman!!! 10/10
Obnoxiously rude staff and sub-par service. Comedians were great of course, and there’s no denying the iconic history, but unfortunately this club does not deserve anyone’s business with the way it is currently run. We were so looking forward to coming to this bucket list spot, but we were so disappointed to find that it seemed like every single person who worked at this over-blown establishment seemed to relish making our experience as miserable as possible.
The show didnt actually start till 7:20, (was supposed to be 7pm) we watched AFV in the meanwhile. The line up was ok. The first person was amazing, however the other two were not so much. Waiters took forever to get drink orders. I was faster to leave the show and get your own drinks.
Loved the show however, the security guard with dreadlocks (8:30pm show, May 6th ‘22) at the toilet made really inappropriate comments to my girlfriend multiple times when she went to the toilet. which were not at all appreciated and made her feel unsafe to go to the toilet, the only way to get there was by going past him.He was also really rude to me when I told him that I wanted to wait for her when she used the toilet, shooing me away like a dog.Loved the show, but because this creepy security guy ruined her night. And we’re not visiting again because of him.
The vent was so cold in a nyc spring day where the outside was barely 60 degree. I complained and was finally permitted to collect my items and leave. Is this comedy prison or comedy cellar? The session I was in was the village underground. I didn’t choose to come to be frozen to death. Also, the first one and the last one was good according to my friend who stayed for the entire session. And I wasn’t allowed to boo at the middle ones who kinda bombed. Hmm I am not sure about this place being a free and open environment for comedy appreciation. Will not recommend if you are skinny and don’t like strong AC.
Outrageous! We waited in line for more than an hour and couldnt get in. That would have been understandable but the guys at the door previously told us to wait in line at a given time so we could get in (not in the most welcoming way). We were there at that time (even 15 min earlier), we were the sixth and seventh persons in line, behind us the line was around 40 people. They did all the check ups (vaccination and ID) before getting in, everything looked good , and then after waiting a looong time in line, the first 3 people got in and the guy said “no more room for this show” and walked away. What really bothers me is the way they treated us, making 50 people wait in line for more than an hour knowing they could only get 3 or 4 in.So don’t even bother to get in line if you do not have a reservation !!
Honestly the comedians that performed when I went weren’t that funny. Some were, others weren’t. Service was great but expensive. The guy that introduced all the comedians made jokes that might’ve been funny when you were 12, I don’t recommend this place but maybe I just got unlucky.
It was an amazing experience to check out the Comedy Cellar. Such a classic spot where many of the great comedians started out their careers. They have shows every night, and its easy to make reservations for the shows. We were lucky enough to see Dave Attell, and Jeff Ross popped in as a special guest for his Birthday. Its a lot smaller than it looks on specials that you may have seen on TV, but its a really cool intimate spot. I would frequent this place if I lived in NYC for sure! Cant wait to go back!If youre in NYC and enjoy stand up, do yourself a favour and check this place out!
We were disappointed especially from the service. We arrived at 10:45, and there was already a line outside, and they wouldnt let anyone in until 11:15, which was a 30 minutes delay in the rain outside..The main issue is that once we arrived they kept telling us they will start letting people in, in a few minutes. If they would let us know it will take 30 minutes we could easily go for a walk for sit somewhere nearby and not be under the impression its going to be any minute now, especially when its raining.Regardless, we ordered the drinks as soon the waiter came, and it took 25-30 minutes for the drink to arrive.. which we found to be a really long time for just some beers.Other than that - the sits, sound, food, etc. were great.
Amazing space, amazing talent and great fun! We booked this a few weeks back and even though the process for entry was a bit laborious, the effort of the staff, the owner and the comedians was well worth the effort. Come prepared to have a great time and leave with a smile .
This is THE comedy club in the city. The best comics go up here. Tons of major comics pop in for impromptu sets. It is a must if you are in town and like comedy. The only reason I dont give this landmark 5 stars is the preshow line can be brutal, and it is a little grimey.
I am shocked to say that my experience here was awful. I am not a negative person, I am not difficult to please. I am kind and cheery by nature. I smile at everyone, and treat everyone with the utmost respect. The servers here treated me like absolute trash. The servers here kept scolding me if I let out a chuckle. If I laughed at a joke... a woman server would get in my face to scold me, and immediately after her male counterpart would repeat the exact same thing when I already would be frozen in disbelief. I love attending standup comedy shows, I know very well how to behave. Its been 12 hours and I am still shocked. The 5th time I got scolded I had enough and left partway throughout the show. I will never in my life set foot here again after being treated so poorly, and unnecessarily so. Even the two strangers we were seated with were in shock and said they didnt understand why I was being targeted by the staff. Awful. Just awful.
Visited Sept. 2021 - staff sported masks, very hospitable service staff. Cool they seal your cell phones but their receipts at the end of the show should have a tax breakdown for tips. Bathroom available but old school/small. Drinks and menu options were adequate. Comedian lineup is always great, I mean, legendary Comedy spot, hello!! Overall, great comedy spot I will make time for every time Im in NYC.
Excellent experience that far exceeded my expectations. You always wonder if a place is going to live up to the hype, but the Comedy Cellar really delivered! I had reserved about six weeks in advance, and we ended up with a table right up front, all the comedians were excellent, and the surprise guest of the night blew us away, Aziz Ansari. Cant wait for my next trip to NYC and the Cellar.
Honestly, just stumbled upon the place with some friends though I have seen many videos by Comedy Cellar on youtube. We were lucky to get in last minute. They do pack up the place to the brim. Our group of 5 had to share a table with another group of 5. It was very cozy. But the worst part was that I was shoved in the farthest corner and literally coudnt see anything from there. I had to stand up to be able to enjoy some stand-up. There were a couple of famous faces, and some somewhat famous. But all were good quality professional comedians. Overall, I recommend but better book in advance to get good seats (though I dont know how exactly you get good seats).
Nice to see some star comedians today, but I was greatly disappointed. Even though I got there early, I was asked to sit in the very back which seemed very unfair given the fact that there were so many other tables open. I ordered french fries and they were very stale and gross. I sat in an area with obstructed views and I could barely see the comedians. Not a good experience at all.
Went to late Valentines show will in town. Words do no justice. The Cellar is an institution. Matt Richards, the host, had me crying with laughter. Got to see two living legends (Godfrey and Dave Attell) absolutely crush it. Dave played a recorder while doing top notch crowd work with a girl named Rosie who got up to leave show early. Attell had Rosie and her friend Jasmine in the plam of his hand. An absolute legend. Have been following Attell since Insomniac on Comedy Central. Go to the Cellar!!!! Experience of a lifetime. Great service and great vibe. Will definitely be back. Long live Attell.
We came here twice while visiting NYC. It was amazing! The comedians were super funny, and the venue is small and intimate. We were also lucky to see two surprise comedians - Mike Birbiglia the first time around and Aziz Ansari the second! Both shows, we got in on standby for the 7:00 PM shows on Friday night. Im not sure if the standby process changes regularly, but heres how it worked for us (I wanted to describe it in detail because this would have really helped us).We started lining up on Minetta Ln just off MacDougal St at 6:00 PM. One night, this put us as the third party in the standby line, and the other night, we were the second party. It wasnt super clear where we were supposed to wait, but we just found the other people waiting and stood behind them. Close to 6:30 PM (30 minutes before the show), someone brought out more official line markers and made sure that people with reservations were in one line and people waiting standby were in the other. They didnt let people in off standby until about 7:05, 5 minutes after the show started. Both times I think they let in about 10 people, but I didnt count, and Im sure it changes night to night. The wait for standby is worth it, but make sure you arrive early! Id recommend about an hour if you really want to get in (at least, that was enough time for us both weekend nights). Two more quick notes - if youre going multiple times, check to make sure the MC and comedians are different. Otherwise you might see a very similar show. Also, the mixed drink I had the first night was ridiculously strong. Good value for sure, but I can usually handle at least 3-4 drinks before feeling drunk, and that single drink was too much for me (I even ordered food with it). So go slow and maybe stick with beer or wine (or nonalcoholic options) if youre sensitive to alcohol.
This place is fantastic. I loved the entire experience. You are very close to strangers, but it adds to the ambiance of the space. They really squeeze everyone in as it is simply a cellar in Manhattan. Theyve got to get in as many people as they can.Putting our phones in sealed plastic bags was a nice touch. It was pleasurable to be in a room full of strangers where people arent on their phones. It adds to the experience of a tuned-in audience and an interactive show. The waiters were very amiable and courteous throughout the night. I applaud them for their organization and secrete-ability.Would definitely go back. Good place to take guests from out of town.
Made reservation. Was told to wait in line before doors opened. After waiting 40mins was told seats were full. Noticed the people behind us got it somehow. When asked why they got in and I didn’t was told I was mistaken and they just left. Have no idea what just happened but very upsetting.
Its not possible to take pictures inside, so here is a photo of the entrance to give an idea of the type of place this is: in a basement, quite dark, very atmospheric. I recommend buying the ticket online to secure a spot, as its always very busy. Otherwise your name can be added to the list and, as the show is about to start, people names get called until all tables are full. Ticket was $20 and we were asked to buy two drinks, which was ok: one cocktail and one bottle of water each, which were not outrageously priced. We saw 7 comedians and they were all amazing. We had such a great time that we cannot wait to go back!
Get reservations, show up early, put your phone in the pouch, buy a couple drinks and get ready for a great night. For as chaotic as the process could be, these guys do a GREAT job of processing a lot of people, packing them in to see a dope show, and getting everyone out for the next one. Cannot wait to go back.
If you are looking to go to a comedy show in New York this is the place. It’s iconic. You will not be disappointed! The atmosphere is perfect. The stained glass behind the stage reminds you of all the famous shows that have been taped there. Iconic is the only way to describe what it is.
Very great energy, everyone has a sense of fun humor, dark or not. NY Cheesecake and Shirley Temple were very tasty. I was not aware of the ticket costs at the time due to being a walk-in hoping for absent attendees, but it was $12 a person for the 2 hour show. Would definitely go again~
Two hours of nonstop laughter this place had come back to life. It was an incredible experience will definitely be coming back. I laughed so hard at every joke I almost fell off my chair. Will was hilarious i hope you get him if you go he won’t let you down. Overall experience 10/10 admission and two drinks each was 50$ pp tip included. Be there 15 minutes before so you can get good seats. Phones off no talking. It’s a must go if you’re in the city
This place was hilarious! Top notch comedians for a sold 1.5-2 hours. It was better than some of the professional shows Ive gone to. Definitely reserve your tickets online. The sooner you show up, the closer to the stage youll be seated. The only negative was that on top of the ticket price, you have to order two menu items per person which gets expensive
Amazing atmosphere and overall a great experience! Im not usually one who is that into standup comedy, but I am so glad I visited while checking out NYC for the first time. They had a great lineup for comedians and the waitresses were great and quick, even with a packed audience. This was definitely one of the highlights of my trip!
You have to make this a stop on your tour of important places of comedy. Reserve a ticket the night before on their site, wait in line and be quiet for the residential neighbors, make friends in line, show your ID, buy two drinks, laugh, wait for Dave Attell to get off the stage with his “80s Angst” routine (actually, all y’all with 80s angst, you’re not Bill Hicks, try something new), hear from a new guy and laugh at this dude who is HILARIOUS.
My first time here, in a comedy club in general. Loved the line up. I dont like the fact that you HAVE to order minimum 2 items from the menu (food or drink) and I didnt like that everyone pays at the same time at the end. Aside from that its a pretty good club act wise
This was the COOLEST tourist thing. I loved the underground atmosphere. We got there early with reservations, and got to sit in the front, and its definitely the best seat in the house. There was a $17 cover charge, and then we also needed to buy 2 more items off the menu. We got the hummus plate and fries, with some drinks. The food was not bad, and the staff was quick and organized for such a chaotic setting (with all the people). The comedians were fun to watch, and our special guest was Aziz Ansari, and that was pretty damn awesome. Id totally come back.
Our 3rd visit to the Comedy Cellar, this time for the Sunday brunch. I didn’t know this was a thing until hearing Liz mention it on the ‘Keeping Joe’ podcast (Machi is the kid!).I was really surprised how good the food was. The best eggs Benedict I have had in the US to date! The line up we saw had Wil Sylvince MC, Matthew Broussard, Joe Machi, Lynne Koplitz, Sean Patton and Matteo Lane. All were outstanding!Definitely recommend as a great brunch option
A monument and iconic landmark for an original American artform. The Cellar is one of, if not the most, historic comedy clubs in the country. Best comedy talent in NY/The World perform here. Managed by good people. If you know how to behave at a live comedy show, then the staff is friendly, courteous, and work their asses off for you. Get drunk and decide to participate and youll be kicked out. Amazing club. Best in the country. A must-visit destination if you are a comedy fan.
Really wanted to come to this bar. I’m from out of town and invited 6 friends I knew from ny out. I thought everyone was fully vaccinated but at the door I found out one of my friends only had one shot. Was pretty terrible because I lil fly asked my friend to go home after finding out he wasn’t fully vaccinated. Then the whole bouncer squad didn’t let us in after we had already rsvp’d for 6 people. Completely ridiculous as us fully vaccinated humans weren’t able despite being over 21. Plus we were planning on having a big night and spend over 1.5k+. If you want to be a real establishment, follow ridiculous mandates but don’t impose more. You guys don’t care about human race. My friend just came from a funeral where her best friend just passed and we were only trying to cheer her up…
The comedians were funny. The front staff was annoying and rude. It was a little hard to see the comedians but it was ok since I could hear them just fine. The main thing that bothered me is that if you reserved seating for less than 10 people, they will sit strangers at the same table making it very awkward and they don’t tell you this ahead of time. I might of enjoyed my night better if there weren’t four different conversations going on at the table.
Very disappointed in how we were treatedMy daughter does not drive and showed a NY State issued ID with her name photo and birthdate on itWe were pushed aside and told we needed to speak to the managerWe waited for 10 minutes while the manager was in Front of us in her cell phone talking to a personal friend purposefully ignoring usI will not allow my family to be disrespected like thatWe went to another comedy club down the street that welcomed us freely at the last minute even without a reservation
Woah. What an experience. Last night, Aziz Ansari showed up in the last spot of the night to run through some material. It was a treat. The venue itself is cozy and below ground (literally a cellar). The shows normally last around 90 minutes, with 5 comics having 15 minute sets. Therefore you get a lot of variety in a short period of time for a reasonable amount of money. Do note, in addition to the ticket price, you do have to purchase two items per person and you seal your phone in pouch which is honestly refreshing.Definitely a must-do if you’re visiting Manhattan.
Staff hostile to women, predatoryA staff member took my young girlfriend outside during the show without asking and without telling her where she was going. The staff member proceeded to complain and berate her for allegedly giving a thumbs down to a comic. This place is dangerous and unsafe for young women. The establishment should not book misogynists and should not engage in predatory behavior towards young women.Do not frequent this establishment, the comics are funny on the whole and the establishment is unsafe and incompatible with entertainment.
The staff and manager wouldnt let my friend in on his birthday without proof of a *second* vaccination... as were mtself and the third party. He is vaccinated... and we are regular patrons... I really like this club but I dont agree with the policies personally (not sure if legal) and they were very rude to us, we had already bought tickets and no refund.
Great night of comedy. 6 or 7 comedians did like 20 minute sets, including Colin Quinn, Dov Davidoff, and Kevin Brennan. Hilarious. And the MC Mike Yard was hilarious too. Very intimate setting, youre up close and personal with the comics. Getting drinks was never a problem. Great night. You cant go wrong. Go there.
This place was the highlight of our stay in NY ,came here with the family had lot of drinks and good appetizers, the service was great the comedians where super funny, and to close out the night they had a celebrity from SNL Michael Che, he just killed it! I never knew he was so talented, amazing night.
A small group of friends made our reservation then showed up early to make sure we could all sit together. After being turned away because we were too early, we arrived at the proper time and had to wait another 20 minutes for the manager, to (very rudely) turn us away yet again because a member of our party had her wallet stolen and didnt have a physical form of a government issued ID (just a photo, which has been sufficient everywhere else). Against our better judgment, we made a new reservation for a later time and went back to our place to grab her passport, the only physical ID she still has. Upon arriving back to the club for our new reservation, they turned us away yet again because not everyone in our party was over 21. Age had not been an issue when they checked our IDs before. No where in the reservation form or confirmation email does this establishment state an age limit, nor do they advertise the need for a physical ID (just a form of ID and proof of vaccination). Not only are they extremely unorganized both in conveying information online and at the door, which wasted HOURS of our time, but the manager also handled everything in a unprofessional and disrespectful manner. 2 stars because I would like to give credit where its due, thanks to this ordeal I did not have to waste any of my money at the Comedy Cellar.
We all have comedy clubs in our own cities, but how many have regulars that have been on SNL or their own specials on Netflix? Well, this one does and if you come to the comedy cellar any night of the week, you will experience comedy at its finest. When I showed up to the comedy cellar a month ago, the line up included Colin Quinn, Michelle Wolf, and Iliza Shlesinger. For the price of a two drink minimum, I was able to see a line up that I would easily pay 50 bucks for at a Las Vegas Casino. If you love comedy, and want to be up close and get personal with some of the top comics in the industry then you have to go to the comedy cellar.
The best comedy club in the US. You will laugh till your sides hurt. You will see A list performers, and perhaps those that are celebrity status famous (Chris Rock, Jerry Seinfeld, etc.)A true Greenwich Village institution, and must see shows unless you hate laughter and joy and puppies.
This place doesn’t need my review but I’m gonna add it anyway. Went here and the underground 4 times in a month and loved every time. Somehow this place manages to have the best shows (Louis CK dropped in one night I was there) but also have cheaper show and drink prices than a different comedy club in GV that puts on mostly amateurs. This place is a must if you are in NYC. If it’s sold out to wait on the stand by line. You will probably get in, and if not you still get some entertainment standing on macdougal for awhile.
What to say that hasnt been said. Its always top knotch comedy. Went on a Saturday night without tickets for the 7pm show. Waited in a stand by line for about 20 minutes. Very efficient process. Only downside is that you are quite smushed in the club as they pack as many people in as possible. Oh and SARAH SILVERMAN did a surprise set! Best show ever!
What an amazing experience! Every comic killed!!! And the atmosphere was extraordinary! They make you put your phones away and all electrical devices so for just a glimpse of time we get a feeling of being connected to a single source of entertainment, the comedian in stage!
I’ve been to the comedy cellar several times, as well as several other comedy clubs in the city and the Comedy Cellar never fails to give me a great time. I’ve been going to the Comedy Cellar brunch hosted by DJ Cipha Sounds and it is a must. At my most recent visit, we were all surprised by Hasan Minhaj, AZIZ ANSARI, and Jeff Ross.
They won’t let you in unless you have all covid booster shots. I am completely up-to-date, my doctor won’t let me have another shot until next week but they are “covid clout chasers” here. Make sure you have gotten all three shots and waited 14 days since then! Going to be a nightmare once we are on our fifth booster shot. Went to a place Next door instead and had a good time.
I have never laughed so hard..! This is a great date night or girls night out spot. The drinks are actually not too shabby and the food is American basics - burgers, fries, etc. Definitely reserve your spot ahead to get in! And dont be late to get in the door or they will give your spot away!
Funny club and love the vibes the comedians have when there having a great time with the crowd! Drinks are good too but kinda pricy but that’s just anywhere you go in NY!! Next time I’ll bring my husband and a few of his friends to enjoy it just like I did! Thanks again for a great show and email me discounts so I can enjoy the shows more often !! :)
The club itself and the comedians were fantastic. Getting in there, however, is a little difficult if you cant get a reservation. You needed to be there 50 minutes before the show to get on the standby list. Once youre in, time just flies by. Overall, great experience inside and highly recommended.
The establishment intimate so be prepared to sit close to the comedians. If you go in first be prepared to sit right by the stage and have the comedians make jokes with you. This was my favorite part. I loved interacting with the comedians. Also they have good drinks and be prepared for a two drink minimum like most comedy clubs. I wouldnt try to drive to this location due to limited parking.
Awesome comedy venue. Its always going to be a little risky coming here, as you could end up with big name comedians who are absolutely hysterical or you could get a few people you never heard of who just dont do well. The beers are reasonably priced and the service is good. Go before the show to reserve a table. And prepare to interact with the comedians if youre in the first row!
My favorite comedy spot, after seeing my first live comedy show here, I was hooked. Their buffalo wings are amazing and the drinks are nice and strong. The line up is pretty amazing, you never know who may make an appearance. I saw Amy Schumer here before she got super famous. They always have great talent. I never have a bad experience here. I laugh so hard here. I love it. Highly recommended, definitely will be returning soon.
Literally one of the best comedic performances of my life. Extremely intimate and environment so it really helped feel closer to the comedians. Even with a cover charge/drink minimum it’s beyond an excellent value for the performance you receive. I’ve always wanted to go here and was so happy to finally see the experience.
Every time I go I am impressed with the value of performance for the price of admission. Worth every penny. Each comedian up there delivers an amazing set. You also never know who might drop in, the last time I was there Amy Schumer showed up and everyone in the place basically lost their minds. Food is good, drinks are great, staff run the place like a well oiled machine. I cannot say enough great things about this place. Definitely a must see.
Great entertainment. The 5 skits we saw were very diverse in terms of quality but we had a lot of fun with which. A must do if you are visiting NY, and very nice to do with friends. Price is $25 and you have to order 2 things on the menu once inside, so expect to pay around 40-50$ total which is not that expensive considering the show you are attending is usually very good.Booking in advance is strongly recommended.
Super super funny comedy show! There were 7-8 comedians performing and Id say that 6 of them were hilarious! Definitely recommended! If you dont buy tickets in advance you can queue up about an hour before the show and you get on the wait list. If people dont show up you can get their spot. This is how we did it and we managed to watch the show.
If you dont have a reservation forget about putting your name down and hoping for a walk-in, its just not going to happen (I once put my name down for a show that was happening two hours later, stuck around then lined up with maybe forty other hopefuls only to have one person from the list be called). So make your reservation weeks in advance and show up half an hour before the show to get seated because the intimate space definitely has some bad seats and theyre given to the late comers. The comedy is expectedly best in class--its the most iconic comedy club in NYC if not the world--but its the food thats surprisingly decent. The cocktails however, are too sweet. Overall a great time to be had if you can plan ahead.Expect a ~$20 entrance with a two menu item minimum order so plan to spend around $45-$50 total per person.
Made it in on the standby line coming an hour before the 10:30 showtime. Some tricks:1. Make reservations online before since they dont charge. However you need to make reservations at least one day beforehand otherwise the system will tell you its sold out.2. Shows seem to start 30 mins late3. If you want to keep the bill down get a bottle of water its only $3.95. Beers were around $6 and wine was $11.4. We called up and were told we couldnt wear sneakers. That wasnt true and made our night uncomfortable.Overall, there were some funny jokes from each of the comedians except one who just wasnt great. MC did a good job. Food was eh. It gets good ratings and I will try it again sometime but I was expecting it to be funnier.
Went last night with the girls for a little fun. The food and drinks were really good, the only bad thing is how they stuff you in like sardines. The first table they offered us had so little room that there was no space to even squeeze in. The second table was better but they also push the seats so close together that you are breathing down your neighbors neck and have to turn around in the oddest poses. But the comedians were really awesome!
This place is the most legendary and well known standup comedy spot in NYC for a reason. Surprise celebrity guest appearances are not uncommon and the caliber of comics is top tier.Plus the tickets are very cheap and the two item minimum order per person is very reasonable.
This is one of my favorite standup comedy venues in the country. The room is small and packed with as many tables as possible (be prepared to bump into your table mates), but that only adds to its character. It’s clear the room has been around for a long time and the walls are adorned with pictures of famous comics from years past. Food here was surprisingly good! Unlike most comedy clubs, I actually found myself enjoying the food (the hummus was a standout). Drinks are great (and can lean slightly toward the strong side). Shows run about two hours on average. Hosted my an emcee with four to six comics performing. Things to keep in mind for your visit:- Make a reservation online ahead of time. This will save you a lot of work. It’s free and will make sure you have a seat. It will also keep you from standing in the “standby” line outside with other folks hoping for a ticket.- Look at the lineup online ahead of time: this let’s you see who is performing on any given night.- Bring your ID: it’s a 21+ venue, so you won’t get in without an ID.
One of the great comedy venues in NYC. If you’ve watched a comedy special chances are that person us played here.Offers a number of sets per night and there’s always someone exciting who drops in. Perfect for tourists and locals alike. The food is also surprisingly good.
Iconic venue lived up to its reputation. They will make you put phones and smart watches in a sealed bag, but at least you get to hold onto it. Two drink/food minimum plus $17 cover. Drinks are not stupid expensive, food menu is basically snacks. Service was friendly and efficient. Performers were a mixed bag. I would definitely recommend as classic NYC event.
This place is awesome for the most part. The admission is steep sometimes, but the food prices are reasonable which I appreciated. The comics on this night, in general, took a lack of laughter as an excuse to blame the culture of today and how were all offended by jokes now and how terrible we were. Cool, but it usually just meant your jokes didnt work. Still a good number of laughs and a fun night.
One of the most famous comedy clubs! I dont follow stand-up that closely and cant remember who all was in the lineup when I went, but it was top notch! The venue is small which means youre up close in an intimate setting - part of what makes for a good, raw experience.Because its small, it gets packed quickly so be sure to reserve online ahead of time. There is a 2 drink minimum and they have a fairly standard bar menu with nothing really special but nothing to complain about either.Definitely worth a visit if youre in NYC!
Pricey, there is plenty of good comedy in this city. But this is a long wait in line if you dont wait. Then you are seeing some great comedians, dont get me wrong. But you can go to some smaller venues where they will drop in and do a spot cheaper. Overpriced drinks. By all means go to it for the the tourists attraction it is. But book ahead and save time. Otherwise go to a smaller room and see the same comedians drop in.

2022-06-20Great experience. The process of getting seated was smooth. The staff were professional. Four out of five comedians were awesome. (One was so-so.) But, real talk ... These are the best comedians in the country at the top of their game. You will not be disappointed going to the Comedy Cellar. Now, we had a special bonus - one of those national act drop ins that is always possible at the Comedy Cellar. Bill Burr dropped in and absolutely slayed. You dont need to be told that the Cellar is legendary. But it is. Phones are placed in pouches (that you keep) for good reason, so I only have a picture of the empty stage.

2022-05-26I’ve been to the comedy cellar a handful of times and it never disappoints. This last visit was a great night of comedy I won’t soon forget, filled with laughs and the opportunity to see some comics who are already writers for hit shows. The staff is nice, and you never know who you are going to see take the stage. Highly recommended.

2021-11-02Big fan of stand up comedy and this was definitely on my bucket list. Went on a Saturday night at 6pm. Would recommend coming later, maybe the 8pm-12am shows as they’re mostly like to have special appearances. Even though we went at 6pm, it was still a full house. All the comedians and comediennes were funny. Each bit was about 7-10 minutes. The earlier you get there, the closer tables you get to the stage. Book reservations online and show up and pay at end of night. Minimum 2 drinks per person and each ticket is $25 per person. So expect to spend about $80-100 for two people.Must visit if you’re in NY. This is located in Greenwich village. Be prepared to be called on if you’re sitting in the front rows.

2022-06-21Loved, loved, loved the show! We were nervous because we got seated right in front of the stage & did not know what to expect! We got included in some the jokes (which were hilarious) and that made the experience even better! I recommend making a reservation & know in advance that phones/any electronics are NOT allowed during the show! There is a 2 drink minimum (get the pineapple vodka drink!) We had dinner before hand at the Olive Tree Café which I would suggest doing as well!

2022-03-29A must do!!! Great time of laughter regardless of not having a surprise guest. It’s worth making a reservation for the time you plan on going and line up 45 to an hour ahead of time. The standby line gets long and you risk not being able to enter. They have a 2 drink minimum and food if needed. Just a great time overall.

2022-05-13My mom and I got lucky and did the stand by line on a Thursday night. We were within the first 10 standby to get into the aparent sold out 7:00 showtime. We did get there around 6:15-6:30 and waited outside till almost 7:05 before they started letting stand by in. I felt very safe, at the door they check all vaccinated guests and put all electronics in a little pouch and hand it to you to hold during the show. They have a two drink/food min per person and it was helpful that they put the ticket price on the final bill so there’s no need to pay for things separately. Man you are 100% in a cellar lol. You totally get packed in there but my mom and I were lucky to get seated at a 2 top table. I did see some groups of people sitting with multiple different parties. As for the comedians, like many shows, some were fantastic and some felt a little stale. All and all we had a great time and we’re exited for our next visit. I snaped a few quick photos when the show ended and we could open our phone pouches :)

2022-05-14First time to the iconic comedy club and it did not disappoint. I love the fact that you have a server who will grab you drinks so you don’t miss anything. We had Jon Laster, winner of Stand Up NBC, MC our show and he absolutely smashed it. We got to see the legendary Colin Quinn do his thing. The entire lineup was great and Mike Feeney took it home with an hilarious and energetic closing set. Can’t wait to go back.

2022-04-06The bouncers are quite nasty. They are clearly making a clear concerted effort to be as disrespectful as possible. But I understand this is their teeny tiny little claim to power in this city and they milk that for all it’s worth. Especially the short balding guy. I imagine the only reason he hasn’t been socked in the face is cause his fellow colleague is pretty large. My advice is to not interact with them unless absolutely necessary. As for the show it was AMAZING! The best comedy show I’ve been to. We didn’t have tickets so we came an hour early and lined up outside around the corner. If you’re in the front of the line you’ll get in. We weren’t given any information and ignored right until the show started and then we got in - so hold out hope if you’re waiting. It’s totally worth it.Wait staff is also amazing and they are doing their best navigating this tiny room with drinks!

2021-12-30My husband and I loved the show last night! We went to the 10:45 showing at the MacDougall location and it was brilliant. All of the comedians were hilarious. The only small downside was the pompous 24 year olds right by the stage. But the waitress gave them a warning right away, and then the comedians themselves roasted them in their jokes! Loved it. We will definitely be back if we visit NYC again. Also side note: I’d also just like to say sorry to the bouncer outside, I was taking a picture of the Comedy Cellar sign before we left, and I absolutely didn’t notice he smiled in both those shots 😂 Sorry sir, I didn’t mean to ignore you!!

2022-02-07I would love to give this establishment 5 stars but their floor manager easily ruined that, and Im sure many other peoples nights. Myself and 6 girlfriends paid a visit last Saturday evening. The comedians were truly hilarious, very talented and would definitely see them all again at an individual show. Our waitress was great and very attentive. The crowd was awesome as well. However, we were told three separate times by the lady floor manager to be quiet or get out!. Now, we can be a loud group of ladies, but I was sitting at the head of our table facing the stage and I know for a fact we maybe WHISPERED seven total words. Seven.Call me crazy but words being whispered amongst girlfriends having a fun night out and not causing a single disruption is vanilla compared to the grim reaper of fun interrupting our night and causing an actual scene. It was so absurd I thought for a second it was part of the show and we were getting Punkd.Karen, assuming that is your name, know your surroundings and try to maybe enjoy your job. You work at a Comedy club for Christs sake.
