I repeatedly ask them to fix our heater and they never do. I put a thermometer in the living room and it was 55 degrees. That is illegal. There have been times when the temperature is in the 40s. They have also overcharged me when I first moved. It was a pain to get my money credited it back. The windows were not installed correctly, they were actually backwards and it took them months before they finally addressed the issue. We also have roaches and it took them months before anyone came by to spray for roaches. The loose front door allows cigarette smoke from the neighbors to enter our ENTIRE apartment. This has by far been the worst apartment building I have ever dealt with.
**update** I waited several weeks to give an update because I wanted to see how things would play out at my new location. I really wanted to give 4 stars, especially after my conversation with Jena, a Member Support Manager . I appreciate the way the situation was handled, not because I got what I wanted but because she showed a genuine interest in helping me unlike the the leasing agent who dismissed my concerns. As someone who travels a lot, I do love the concept of common living, however there is a lot that they need to improve on, mainly communication at the company level. There are way too many people that you need to deal with to get things done which gives room for errors and I should not have had to post a review to get in contact with someone from the management team. The good news is they do have community managers at several locations and any issues Ive had on property have been handled within 24 hours.I would also rate the facilities 5 stars, both locations Ive been at have been top tier.****They (Michael Canfarotta) misinformed me about the amenities of the property prior to signing my lease then decided to charge me a $300 fee to transfer to a property that could meet my needs. Talk about horrible customer service. Its also very difficult to speak with anyone and they reply to emails it seems like once per day.The property (The Agnes Jersey City) itself is wonderful including the front desk staff and community manger, all very friendly and helpful, however I would recommend speaking with property management directly before signing your lease.
Contacted Common support twice about my bathroom door being locked from the inside.. The first time, They created a ticket. After waiting a few hours, I followed up with them and the team member Kaye helped tremendously. She made sure to call me back through the process and letting me know that she was with me to get to the bottom of the issue.I also notified her about my key card issues and she fixed the problem while on the phone and made sure to be thorough on if it worked on my door and front gate. The maintenance guy came and opened the door. Everything is perfect now.I greatly appreciate the help and getting both items fixed in a timely manner. Thank you Kaye
This is a great upscale building that is always a pleasure to.come home to. I love my 11 vaulted ceilings and the whole vibe here, classy and quiet. My move in was easy, Sherley in the office was extra accommodating and helpful. I still have questions for her now and then , its great to have a friendly go to person in the office. If she isnt available right when I call or text, she gets back to me no later than 5 minutesafterwards. I love the architecture of this building. Most.of the people seem friendly. So far , so good !
I had a great experience leasing with Cedric, one of their leasing agents. He is a nice guy and also very knowledgeable about the property and was able to answer all of my questions and concerns about the property and unit, making it a smooth overall process. I have had a good experience with Common so far and Cedric is the man to get you what you need there.
Over all I am in love with this space, the agreement with the lease needs to be further clarified as there are people living here with different professions, different living styles, and cultures, it is simply unrealistic that everyone follow and understand the lease in the same way; consequently, it is going not going to be completely comfortable as accommodation and sacrifices need to be made to keep the place peaceful. Different things mean different things to different people, so I would say that it is commons place to come in where there are quarrels and try to be a mediator so that both parties involved can meet a satisfactory solution. Other than further clarification of the lease, it is a great habitat for a person like me.
I was having an issue with my move-in date. I was not going to be able to come in on time to grab my keys. I spoke to Kaye and she was extremely helpful. She understood my situation and went above and beyond to help. She kept me up to date with emails. The following day, she gave me a call first thing in the morning to tell me that everything was settled. I appreciate the quick turnaround and I love that my concerns were addressed in a timely manner. Thank you Common and thank you Kaye.
I had 2 weeks to find and secure a place in LA. They work very fast and are very helpful with any questions you have. There was one lady who could improve her customer service, but most everyone there is very polite and helpful. If this is your first time being on your own or you want the most for money, I definitely suggest going with common. When I move back home Ill likely be moving into another common location.
Paola from Common (at Clifton) was the most amazing source of information, help, and encouragement. She went way above and beyond, and made my search for housing completely stress free. Making herself personally accessible at any time, searching for every possible available option for me, and sending me all the information I needed to get ready for my move made me feel so much more comfortable with the process and highly likely to recommend Common to a friend and/or use their services whenever I move again in the future!
Cedric Gordon was a huge help in finding me a place in Common Apartments! I really appreciated how informative he was during our tour in regards to the property’s numerous amenities and the leasing options. Cedric helped me realize that the Common property would be the perfect fit for my housing needs!
WOW Ive just had the most amazing customer service experience from Danielle of Common Member Support! I needed assistance on a matter and Danielle was the one who responded to my email! I have always been reluctant to communicate by email with any company customer support. However, when I emailed Common it was a live person not a bot and she responded in real time and owned the issue until it was resolved to my satisfaction as if it was her own company! She was professional, cordial, exhibited empathy (yes via email) and very knowledgeable. I am sold on Common because of my great customer support experience with Danielle 🙂!
I rented and (paid 3 months of rent to Common) for one of Commons buildings in San Francisco (Common City Garden). However, they sold the building without any communications or refund. One week before my move-in date, I emailed them asking for move-in instructions, only to be told that they are unable to provide any information on my current situation. They were not able to guarantee that I will have a place to move into or that I would be provided a refund. After getting in touch with the new owners, they told me that Common still has my information and are waiting for Common to give it to them. As of now, I have nowhere to move into and Im out almost $4000. As of now, nobody has reached out.
This company simply does not communicate they love to ghost you and never solve your problem Ive had a problem for a month now because of a screw up they made I paid the first months rent yet for some reason they charged me again for my first months rent. Basically they want me to pay 3 months rent for 2 and again the worst part is that you can talk to no body no body answers and no body helps you solve your problem simply nothing. my 6 years old son knows how to communicate better.
The tour was nice with a great guide and a comfortable viewing of the place (even allowing me to find a parking spot). Unfortunately, the place was not for me. Id be willing to pay more for less as long as I had my own bathroom and kitchen (which the unit didnt have). In the end, Im honestly looking for a real estate group that can continue searching for a place. Every group Ive been in touch with has immediately dropped me as a client the moment I failed to show interest in THAT apartment (or if they find a buyer in the process) despite expressing interest in purchasing an apartment. Its been an exhausting experience, one that leaves a bitter taste for me about those that control the units.
Im sorry for trashing this company online but I cannot express enough how disappointed Ive been with their services.- The communication with property management has been a complete nightmare. If you have a question, you will never be able to ask someone on the phone. You will eventually get an email full of typos from someone youve never spoken with before.- The HEAT DID NOT WORK IN MY BEDROOM IN DECEMBER, and I heard from another tenant that they had received a space heater from Common so I requested one, only to be told that there was nothing that could be done about this. Completely unforgivable, Im sorry.- You are nothing more than a money-maker for Common. There are mysterious, nonsensical charges on your account every month. I have had to inquire about flex fees of $150 monthly and cleaning fees after no cleaning occurred of $100. And nobody will ever give you a phone number with someone to call.
London gave me an awesome tour of the property ,amenities and unit. She explained and showed me the advantages of Living in the Co-living high rise. She went above and beyond to find the unit that I needed, and made it easy for me to decide to apply. Thanks to her warm welcome, she has a great positive attitude while being professional. Thanks.
Unacceptable. I arrived to a room on my move in date. There was no mattress. I called the help line (which is the only opportunity youll have to speak to a real human, no one will ever call you from a contact form that you file) and they said they would take care of it ASAP. There was no mattress my first night, my roommates were kind enough to let me sleep on the couch in the common area. I call again the next morning. No mattress until MONDAY. TWO DAYS AFTER I MOVE IN. Honestly this place is a horror show. My roommates all have their own awful story with Common. Idk how they have so many positive reviews they MUST be fake. These places are poorly run and managed, they cant even get a mattress in the right room at the right time. Guess Ill be making the best with the couch again tonight.
Kelly Alvarado, the leasing specialist for Common Penmar, worked tirelessly to find a suitable home for my ESA and I. After multiple options fell through, she managed to get me access to a new suite opening up in a different building. She was so patient and understanding in the face of my overwhelming stress and was the only reason I continued to pursue living arrangements with Common after the first option fell through. I recommend leasing with Kelly as she will do whatever she can to get you exactly what you want and need.
I moved out of Common Marcy at the end of February 2022 and 4 months later havent received my security deposit back. I sent them multiple forms of documentation including receipts and screenshots from my bank statements showing that I paid my security deposit (and a prepayment on my 1st months rent) which they never applied to my account, but they continue to gaslight me.I never write reviews but given how much money they owe me here, felt the need to write this publically in the hope they address my situation and as a warning to others.
I’m a resident at The Wayland and just wanted to reiterate how much I’ve appreciated the staff, specially Nicole S. Her hard work doesn’t go unnoticed and I’ve appreciated her going above and beyond during my 3 months in the community. She is also killing the events (Wine Wednesdays, Comedy Night, etc.) Happy I moved here.
Kelly Alavardo was our initial point of contact and she couldn’t have been more helpful. We found that the whole process went smoothly because of Kelly’s excellent communication with us. She responded to all our emails and texts messages straight away and was able to answer all our questions. We weren’t familiar with the Common Living concept and Kelly was brilliant and explaining all the details for us in a professional and knowledgeable way. She even met a friend of ours who lived locally to do an in-person viewing which reassured us that the virtual tour matched the actual building and the area in Los Angeles that we wanted. We are very appreciative to Kelly and my son is looking forward to moving into his great new apartment.
I have been with common for 3 months and it was good AT THE BEGINNING. About a month and a half ago a leasing agent brought someone into our unit with no warning. 3 weeks ago another leasing agent brought someone to our unit with no warning; she re-entered the same day with no warning. Upon her 2nd entry she saw me naked. I have tried every day since ti get out of my lease but have not received a single phone call. Today I received and email saying I would hav ego pay $5,900 to get out of my lease. Although Common violated the lease, I am obligated to pay. A literal scam. Also, the Roomate situation is outrageous. Would not recommend!
In todays fiscal difficulties of coming out of the ramifications of Covid, and now with intense housing price inflations, getting by seems to be a thing of the norm. Amid the stress and worries of the day-to-day as of lately, it has been so immensely refreshing to have the understanding and flexibility of the Common Property Management team, specifically Nicole Steinert! In such personal trying times, her friendly and timely response to my emails has been more than helpful, as such customer service only affirms the human approach the Common Property Management Teams puts into actual practice. I can not send enough accolades again to Nicole and the Common Administrative team for the times, attention and generous compassion shown in times like these.
Jessil was so helpful and acted very fast to help me get off the roof. I was able to have the super save me in 30 min. I have never had better service with common then that phone call. She called me multiple times to check with different solutions and once when I got into the building.
I didn’t give them a one star like everyone because I think there are a handful of employees in their headquarters in New York that genuinely tried to help. Management is horrible because it doesn’t exist. Everyone who had posted are accurate: parking drama, cleaning is a joke, response team (some of them) isn’t able to give the details or explain why things aren’t going smoothly for new tenants or current tenants. Overall their advertisement for this particular Common (Common Paramount) is inaccurate. People who are seriously considering moving in to the Common Paramount should talk to the current tenants and read the reviews before signing the lease. I’ve made this mistake and regret itdeeply.Update from first post.Today: July 16, 2022Ive changed my rating from a two stars to a four stars and heres why: Ive lived at Common for six months and can see that their service has improved. Ive realized that they maybe taking their tenants more seriously and actually listen and act on the issues. I think the problematic folks who they allowed to move in are mostly gone. Most of the issues are caused by the tenants, the irresponsible ones. These issues will continue because Common business model is to attract the young adults who do not yet know how to clean after themselves, respect privacy, and be considerate about noise levels or the daily smell of someone smoking Marijuana in the building. Common is essential a college dormitory environment. On the positive side, if the above is considered horrendous for you, Common provide unlimited toilet paper and paper towels supplies (not great quality but free of charge). On top of that water, electricity, wifi, AC/Heat, Kitchen appliance and cookware, Smart TV, dining and living essentials, and trash/recycling bins, and bi-weekly cleaning in the common-shared areas are provided. Each person in the apartment have their own bathrooms. Although the rent price is bit on the expensive side, but everything you need to live comfortably are included. If you choose to sign the lease with Common, I wish you the best and that your roommates are respectful people. As long as youve done your research ahead of time, Common will assist as best as possible. Remember: if you have a car, make sure to check with Common whether there is a parking space for you before you sign the lease. There are too many people who were not communicated with about parking. I blame the tour guide for not disclosing that information -- they are young people like you and I and they dont think ahead. So make sure you ASK before SIGNING.Good luck!
This post is soley about Christina Gonzalez at Common Broadridge. She has been an exceptional Community Manager. Having her on board has exceeded my expectations in the gap left by the former agent. She has been extremely helpful and responsive in addressing issues. Christinas thoughtfulness and impact in the events and community environment fostered in this building have been outstanding. The weight of this particular role is surely not easy and she handles it with elegance. As a new resident of this city, I consider myself blessed to have her as apart of the team that made me feel welcome here. I am thankful to her and would recommend anything she is doing.Thank you so much!
Common is a company that lacks professionalism and refuses to adhere to the terms of their own lease. Per the terms of the lease agreement, smoking is prohibited on the premises. However, when I brought up the issue of one of my housemates smoking cigarettes and marijuana in the house, Common refused to address the issue. In another instance with the same housemate, this housemate destroyed the patio door, ripping off the doorframe and the lock itself. Common again declined to address the issue. On both occasions, they suggested that I “discuss my concerns” with my housemate, rather than stepping in to address an egregious violation of the health and safety of all tenants in the home.
We were looking for a short term rental for my sons internship and Commons seemed be a great option. But it was pretty tight to get a room and our leasing agent, Tyrell was very helpful thought the process. He helped us answer various questions and mull options as the ones we were looking at filled up. Tyrell was great to work with and very respectful and responsive. Thanks again, Tyrell.
I had such a pleasant experience looking for place here! Nicole did an amazing job answering my questions, keeping me happy, and providing me with exactly what I needed and wanted. I was well taken care of by the rest of the staff and it was truly one of the best experiences ive had while looking for a place.
I have to shoutout the administration and especially Chandice, Carter and Amanda in NYC. They have helped resolve a lot of my concerns regarding moving in and ultimately, helped me make the decision to move in tomorrow! The application process was pretty easy as well and I got approved in less than 24 hours.
I recently set up a tour for one of the Co-living spaces at Havemeyer and thought the process was well managed! I met Leah Hight from the company there and she was really informative and helpful - and spent more than the allocated appointment time with me to answer my questions and show me around! Once she also had an idea of my budget and what I was looking for, she even made the time on the same day to show me a different building nearby so that I could get a sense of what my options were. Afterwards she was really responsive on email - sending me room layouts and room options as well as setting up an additional time for me to go and view rooms which was really helpful. Whilst I didnt go ahead with one of the co-living rooms in the end, Leah genuinely made the process really stress-free and easy to see what the options were as well as being available to help and provide me with all the information I needed so thank you!
I applied to live at Commons and was approved but unfortunately, I did not end up taking the lease due to personal reasons. I’ve been contacting the office for 2 days now trying to get my refund back for $280 and no response. No one is responding to my emails or calls now. It’s really weird and suspicious. All I ask is for my refund to be returned to me. Thank you.
Common is the WORST. Ive been living with Common for a little under two years now and I truly regret ever signing the lease in the first place. The rooms are cramped and overpriced, but thats just the tip of the iceberg. From faulty electronic lock systems, in which Common charges a hefty $75 lockout fee, to maintenance issues being ignored, such as leaky pipes going unfixed, mold being painted over, washing machines being broken for weeks at a time, Common truly fails at their promise of luxurious coliving. Dirty, stained, and broken furniture, in which Common promises to replace but ever actually does are a staple of each apartment, bedrooms are never cleaned between old tenants moving out and new tenants moving in, there are several missing items and furniture that are supposed to be included that, again, Common promises to replace, but never actually does, and so much more. One of the worst things about Common is that no matter how important the issue is (like when I filed a police report after a robbery occurred in our building but was unable to obtain the surveillance footage OR the time Common sold the building I had been living in and evicted me, as well as every other tenant in that building), there is absolutely no way of getting into contact with anyone that has answers or authority to help you with your concern. I have lost all faith that Common cares about their tenants. I cannot wait to move out.
I recently worked with Samantha to assist with my lease takeover due to an earlier than expected move out date. She was so helpful throughout the process and tentative to all of my questions and concerns. She was able to answer any and all of my questions and really helped the process go as smoothly as possible.
Common - Gates Apt in Brooklyn, NY. Refuses to replace faulty oven element. Common Apt currently uninhabitable by stove/oven appliance not working correctly. Suitemates said this has been going on for over a year and nothing has been done about it. Multiple ‘technicians’ inspected it and advised that we should turn our oven to preheat 100° hotter than our desired preheat cook time. Sounds a lot like a fire hazard to me that can endanger lives of other residents at Common apartments and tenants of other properties surrounding it. I’ve been here for less than a month and have eaten half-cooked pizza and undercooked potatoes because of this. My suitemates had similar cooking issues because of this.
If I can give a zero star review, then I would do that.First of all, they dont let you book a tour to see two units at once. I had to cancel the one I previously made and waited for two weeks and rescheduled the new one after I discovered the better option at Marcy. I waited another two weeks so that makes almost a full month. They said its because they dont let anyone to rent the unit once someone scheduled a tour, so its impossible that I lose the apartment while I am waiting for the tour. I believed in it.I found out the unit I booked a tour for is no longer there on the website, so I called to check everythings alright, and they said no worries. I asked for the email confirmation of the tour, the agent said hed do it right away, I never got one. Next day, I called twice more, and finally they said maybe its not available. I complained, they told me theyd call me next morning, which is supposed to be today. Its lunch, I didnt receive a single call or email from them. I called them 7 times in a row now, they just hung up my phone calls.Trust me THEY HAVE THE WORST MANAGEMENT SYSTEM. It almost feels like a scam to me.
Ive now lived in Common in New York, New York (Pacific) and Oakland, California (MacArthur). The pictures in this review are from Pacific, where I first lived. Highlights include weekly cleaners, Android TV or Roku, Nest, Sonos, 100Mbps Internet, Cisco Meraki or Ubiquiti APs (with -60dBm coverage or better), free washers/dryers, Casper bed, Parachute bed sheets, nice utensils and furniture, keyless entry (mobile or card), Slack, Stripe, emergency support numbers, exclusive monthly events, informal get togethers, and more. Amenities and offerings were similar in MacArthur, although the house structure and neighborhood differed; Id encourage you to spend some time in your potential neighborhood before signing a lease, if possible. Ive overall had a positive experience and if it werent for some personal situations (a mix of life, financial, and career), I might still be living in Common. Most amazingly, I met my significant other in Common, were now coming up on two years, and things are going really well!Theres a lot to like about Common, from the convenience, to the community. The community aspect often seems less relevant when first considering housing in a city (at least it was for me) but it ended up being the thing that I actually liked most about Common. You get an instant network of friends, and my hope is that the emphasis Common placed on fostering a sense of community through weekly and monthly events, continues well into the future.Although this is a positive review, I cant say that everything during my time was perfect. For example, there were multiple instances where there was confusion around how to handle moving on from Common (if you end up deciding to do so). My genuine hope and sense is that the issues I had (e.g., the person I was communicating with did not have accurate information, or was unable to relay accurate information to me, or there was ambiguity in the lease or membership agreement) were due to a case of growing pains, because when I did escalate my issues to someone more senior, they were immediately and properly handled. Moreover, someone each time went out of his or her way to ensure those things were properly resolved. I really appreciated that and it meant a lot.If you are considering co-living arrangements, Id highly encourage you to at least consider Common, depending on if its a fit for you and Common. I think the founder and much of the team are big believers in the future of co-living, and my hope is they continue to focus on community, and as much as possible, flexibility with regard to housing and membership options for everyone living in Common. Ive enjoyed my time being part of this community, and if my girlfriend and I end up together, a big part will be because Common brought us together.
To Owner: the problem IS support. When I moved in I had a question about the resident portal which didnt get a response till 2 months later, after Id already decided that the building isnt for me.Also now Ive moved out and Im waiting on support to get my security deposit, and an overcharge refunded, but they ghosted me 10 days ago..
Common living is the place to be. Great outdoor views. Amazing tenant support. Well done apartment rooms. Reasonable prices. The people that are next door their pretty okay and you do have those noisy days but it happens. Melissa, a great tour guide and leader that shows you everything you need to know from the ground floor and the floors above. She is also very awesome at responsing to any question provided. Shes my favorite person within the common community by far. On the other hand the people at the desk their pretty okay. The security is good and the building is well managed. Theres also other fun rooms like the gym, theater, pet, yoga, 8 pool, library, laundry, and some grills on the outside too. (hotpot too)
So I was apartment searching for such a hot minute, I was on the verge of giving up. But when I came across Common, Kristen Z., who worked out the previous company, always looked out for me by detailing info, timeframes, following up, and reaching out when she didn’t have to.Answering any question I had, even the silliest ones, she’s for sure one of the main reasons why I’m still planning to move to one of Common’s properties in the near future. I just don’t have that money saved yet.And the most wonderful thing that I super duper appreciate about Kristen, is that she reached out to follow up and see what happened with my moving situation, detailing how no one else at Common reached out to me, and they didn’t. But she did, which I’m forever grateful for.- Alex Cantu
I have been living here going on a year and I love my apartment so much! It was great to find an apartment that was reasonably priced during the pandemic as well as after. I have great water pressure, an amazing full size kitchen, and plenty of space! My experience with the team has been very nice, too. Whenever I have a question or need anything, they are very responsive and helpful. The building is very clean and well maintained. The neighbors are very nice and kind. I can’t believe I found a cute, new, and affordable apartment in Seattle that I don’t want to leave! The high ceilings in my unit with floor to ceiling windows is the cherry on top for me. I would 10/10 recommend and heavily suggest checking these units out. If there isn’t the right unit available at one building, I know they have multiple buildings around Seattle, they’re definitely worth it!
It was a sure-knowing for me and Melissa was a big part of the instant connection that I felt towards the concept of co-living at Common at Broadridge in Philadelphia. To this day (many months after moving in), I still feel the same kind of warmth and welcoming energy when I run into Melissa in the building. She is the type of person that had no issues showing me all the rooms that I wanted to tour and was very accommodating to my timeline of wanting to move in the next day. If there is something that Melissa cannot help personally, she makes sure you are directed to someone who can.
I am a current tenant with Noah at Pine Plaza. I wasn’t getting my lease renewal notices because the emails were going to my e-mail SPAM folder. By the time it was brought to my attention, it was 2 days until I had to give the notice to vacate the apartment. The proposed rate had me real discouraged and I felt anxiety set in as the thought of having to move from my apartment seemed apparent.Marquise, Renewal Manager at NOAH, contacted me. He prioritized my issue and streamlined the renewal of my lease. He negotiated the lease like a boss. He was able to get the proposed rate down to one I am very happy with.He was cordial and professional. The renewal process was painless, the e-mail links worked, we used different modalities, communicating via phone, e-mail, and text messaging.Marquise was in synchronous, lock step with me through the process. He eased my worries. My interaction with him through this process left me with a huge smile of satisfaction. He gets five stars for communication and competence in customer service.Common! Get this Man more munny!
This was my first EVER house/apartment search. Leah Hight was the gal who I was working with and she made everything very easy, and broke down what I needed to know in a way I could understand it. She also did an amazing job helping me and my partner find options in our price range and at great locations. Outstanding work from Leah and I hope everyone else who works there is like that. Hope you guys read this and give the lady some recognition!
Leah has been a God send. My relocation has been like a roller coaster ride with my job but Leah has been so patient. Whenever I want to check availability just to keep in the know, she texts me in real time and never makes me feel I am bothering her. The virtual showing of the unit was awesome and very helpful. I can’t wait to get my guaranteed move date so I can make the Common Apartments my home.
Samantha, a Member Support Specialist at Common has been incredibly helpful. My move-in experience at the current Common building I am in was very rocky. I reached out to the member support team to try and get some issues resolved and Samantha took on the case. She was so helpful, supportive and informative every step of the way. We were able to get the move-in issues resolved and reach an agreement. Since then, my experience with Common has been great, due in large part to Samanthas help. Thank you for everything, Samantha!
I looked at two Common rentals, MacArthur Place and City Gardens. At either, the virtual guides answered questions and helped clarify particulars that the website doesnt explain especially since I was calling in from another State. Both Adam and Phetsamone were professional, caring, and willing to go the extra mile. Just be patient and perhaps persistent in getting them on a virtual call as they are busy with appointments that run over into your time. In each case, I wish they can physically walk you through the actual available rooms but I understand due to the existing residents privacy, this may not be possible. Otherwise I will recommend this as an alternative way of renting.
Moving in was quick and easy. From the airport, I went directly to the building and was able to access everything seamlessly with the keyless entry. I had some minor issues during move-in day, submitted a ticket and the support team was able to respond quickly. Lastly, Brooke was kind enough to check-in on me during my move-in and was able to provide a few additional information that I might need. Overall, Im satisfied with the Apartment Building that Im in, its not perfect but its good enough.
(This review is made prior to living here— will update in a few months with hopefully a positive experience)Had a great time working with the leasing office— Marisa was amazing and made us feel comfortable with signing a lease. From the tours to sending us videos of new available units, she made sure that we got a full picture of everything the community had to offer! Also was super friendly and responsive, which was very welcome after many other complexes never delivered on promises or were sometimes difficult to connect with. Marisa was kind and a pleasure to work with!We are looking forward to our stay!
My son is moving to LA from Atlanta, so I’ve been searching for him a place to live for the past 2 months +. To say LA has the worst customer service I’ve ever encountered is an understatement. Non-responsive, no follow through to just poor service across the board. I was at the end of my rope and did my final google search, and there I found an angel in Katya. In the beginning, I said “she must be too good to be true”. Not only did she keep her promises, her customer service was beyond amazing. She kept our appointments, she explained everything in detail and even provided options in reference to Obligo. Not only was she amazing, but the admin team that reached out to my son for car info, renters insurance etc were amazing too. I would recommend Fountain over any shared room space in Los Angeles, and I interacted with about 8 or 9. Fountain, thank you for hiring awesome & kind hearted employees like Katya. She deserves a few extra vacay days + a raise. She totally killed my anxiety, and she deserves to be honored for her level of customer service.Thank you guys again—-you made my sons dreams come trueTamara Junearick
My apartment is dealing with MICE and COCKROACHES. They kept dodging my emails until I reported them to 311. The exterminator came and sprayed, but since we have so many holes in our floor, there is still a problem...So the mice/cockroaches? Still a problem.Communicating with Common is a joke. It is always circle back. Oh our washing machine? Doesnt work, hasnt for 2 months now. Also, our apartment was kept in unsanitary conditions for months because of a hoarding situation and what did Common do? Nothing. Moved tenants from out of state who didnt know any better. I got an apartment virtual tour before moving in...But it was a tour of A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT APARTMENT. SHADY. If I knew the condition of the apartment, I mean the true condition, I would have never moved in. Also, Common is now overcharging me for rent.AVOID COMMON AT ALL COST, they do not know how to run a business and do not care about your well being. Please enjoy this pic of my pest infested apartment :))
BE AWARE because this company is not trustworthy. I am still afraid that they will take my money away and never give it back. I am writing this review so others can be aware and not experience the same thing. The management of my apartment in NYC changed to the Common in the middle of my lease. I have moved out now but still havent received my security deposit to my new address after 42 days. The lease that I signed says that I am to get the security deposit back 14 days after lease end date.I was very responsible when moving out. I told them a month and a half before moving out, and took the exit survey. They also did a move out walk through. So, I thought everything was going smoothly. I emailed the support team when it hit the 14 day mark and I still havent received the deposit. Overall, I emailed the support team 5 times, put in an inquiry online once, I called the members line 5 times, and reached out to their billing team 3 times. They havent replied to a single email for 3 weeks. There is only one number you can call - customer support. The customer support team cant direct you to other teams or their own managers. They can only talk through slack and can only put inquires/send tickets into the system and wait for someone to see it and reply. The support team told me for 2 straight weeks that some one will reach out to me but nobody has. Today the customer service team even hung up on me as I was talking to them and didnt pick up my phone calls afterwards. MANY OTHER REVIEWS (including yelp) say the same thing about not being able to get security deposit back. So, if you want your deposit to be stolen away from you like this and just hope that they will read your emails you should sign with them.
Highly inconsistent and unprofessional company. Toured at ALTA after calling and asking for availability. I would have 100% avoided the tour if they just showed pictures of the units online (there were no living rooms and tiny bedrooms with Murphy beds). Really bad breakdown of pricing and months off + a lot of hidden fees that were only mentioned on the tour and not on the website. My agent wasn’t even sure if there were availabilities when I got there, which felt like a complete sign of unpreparedness. Elected to go with another availability at another Common location.I applied for the alternative location (Marcy) within 15 minutes of receiving the application and put down a $300 deposit which was meant to reserve the room. I get a text from the common agent AFTER depositing the $300 telling me that somebody had already applied for the room (If a deposit at Common reserves the room, how was I able to apply).Asked for alternatives but there weren’t any, but neither was there any effort to somehow remedy the situation. Called Common the next day to ask for ANY alternatives in Brooklyn and they were prompt to tell me the only availability was in Long Island City with Alta (no common space and Murphy beds).I’m currently out $300 for the next 10 days and the better part of yesterday evening because this company has no transparency to its customers nor any alignment internally. I would not recommend Common to anyone.
Common Sycamore in LA is a comfortable, clean and thoughtfully planned living space for a group. A lot of communication with Common takes place online which can be challenging, and I had positive experiences in that regard when taking a virtual tour of the suite with Zack Sultan. He was friendly and welcoming, and also very well-informed about the features of the coliving space. As the process went on, he was responsive to the questions I had, and found time in his schedule of tours to help me secure the room that was best suited to me. Ive been here a month now and am finding the living arrangement works very well.
It has been a month living here and the experience has been amazing! Special shout out to Cody for helping me find the right living space, answering all my questions, and helping me every step of the way. He showed professionalism, enthusiasm, and provided clear information whenever we discussed my future at Common.Besides great customer services, the space is beautiful, clean, and modern. I am a big fan of the large windows that let in natural light in the living spaces. Besides the unit, my other favorite space is the gym - it has everything you need for any type of work out, and the variety of equipment allows me to switch up routines as frequently as I want.
I have had a great experience at commons over the past 8 months. The amenities have been amazing for the price you pay, and the community is very unique. The staff is very professional and makes you feel welcome in every aspect. Cody especially has been so helpful during my time living here no matter what the issue is. Safe to say that I have enjoyed my stay and will continue to live here if they keep it up!! :)
Im looking to move out of California and started dipping my toes into the world of virtual touring apartments in the Oregon/Washington area. My first virtual tour (ever!!) was with Common Apartments in Seattle, Leah Hight being the wonderful and kind tour guide! She was attentive and answered every question I had, in detail and gave me a better understanding of everything going on as far as specific unit details and the surrounding areas/neighborhoods that each complex sits in. It was such a positive start to my journey of finding a place to live and Leah was so awesome! I would definitely recommend looking into the Common Apartment Complexes in Seattle!
DO NOT RENT THROUGH COMMONThe lease process was terrible. I went on a tour of a building and then the sales agent didn’t follow up. When I called, I finally got someone to respond and help me start the application process.Once the application was submitted, I received a lease for the room. The lease was filled with hidden costs, didn’t cover any of the inclusions the sales person explained. Plus they give you only 48 hours to sign the lease, so when I raised questions, I was hoping to get some answers. After numerous emails and phone calls, I finally had a return call where they basically said “I can’t help you. I’m a leasing specialist and this has to go to a leasing admin” and then the leasing admin replied “we didn’t generate your lease, I have to call the person who did”.It’s been a week - the answers I have received do not address my concerns and have created even more confusion. I’ve received conflicting answers, answers to follow ups that are the same answers I’m following up on. I’ve been told to call different phone numbers, that when I call I hear “this isn’t my scope area, you need to talk to your leasing specialist”.I highly recommend you to AVOID Common at all costs. If you do want to rent from them, review your lease thoroughly to make sure they don’t pressure you into signing a lease that doesn’t cover what they say your rent will cover.UPDATE: In reply to the response from the business, you DID NOT provide any answers to any of my questions. I pulled my application and demanded my deposit back because I would not sign a lease that included hidden fees that could not be explained to me. I was misled through the entire process, and your response is an attempt to mislead future potential customers. I URGE future potential clients to look elsewhere, don’t do business with Common.
I had the pleasant experience to be met by the young and friendly leasing manager, Austin, at the Common Madison location in Seattle. He was quite thorough and gracious, despite his busy schedule, and he showed me three units, saving the best for last—a corner unit with a beautiful view. The apartment was exactly what I was looking for, and I know that I will enjoy my time there. My only complaint is that I would like it to be easier to contact the office folks by telephone.
Still in the moving in process, I’ll keep this review updated. Ok, here’s my story make of it what you wish. I applied to a place in the Owens location in Brooklyn NYC at first Amanda the leasing agent was responsive and very nice I loved the place it looked clean and nice. So I applied and paid the 300 dollars holding fee through my credit card, then I signed up for the deposit-free option they have called obligo and got accepted. But when I signed the lease I was charged first month rent 1174 +300 holding fee I already paid + 1174 security deposit I wasn’t supposed to pay because I chose the deposit-free option. Now my bank account has over-drafted because I only had the 1174, not the total of 2648, and I’m confused as to if the move in is going through or not and the worst part!!! the absolute worst part!!! Is THE LACK OF COMMUNICATION nobody freaking answers, so I don’t know what’s going on!!! The costumer service line has no answers; it just escalates the ticket, and then I never hear back. Will I get contacted soon and this whole thing gets fixed for me?! Possibly, but they have already stressed me out on Thanksgiving mind you. Now I’m going into this not knowing if I’m going to be homeless on the first of December. And this doesn’t fill me up exactly with confidence that if I do finish up moving in which I’m hoping will still happen because I loved the place. That any future concerns will be dealt with promptly.Edit ( now it’s January 13th) I moved in the apartment its clean and nice looking but again they are making another payment financial problem they are charging me 3 months rent for the first 2. And I’ve been going back and forth with me on email for a week now. This company has no communication what do ever their favorite thing to do is ghost you. They have a call center somewhere in Asia and all it does is submit a ticket and then you never hear back. Again to sum it up the apartment is good communication is god awful if you have any probleem even a problem that they caused you like this one I’m going through now good luck getting them to even hear you forget about solving your problem.
I have the best experience with Ms. Leah Hight. she was super supportive. she responded to my questions immediately and schedule an appointment for me several times. she was very patient with me while checking the apartments. and she tried to find the best place for me with the condition that I liked. I do really appreciate her time and help through this complicated process.
APPLICATION PROCESSI do have to admit that in the beginning the road to securing an apartment was very rocky as I started my process on a holiday weekend. (July 4) Tip for those who would like to rent here:1. Write back as soon as possible2. Make several phone calls and leave a message3. Make sure to be ready to sign after touring. It makes the process a whole lot easier.4. you may only need to bring bedding in some of the units because the furniture is all so put together.I would like to especially thank Matt G. as he helped me find a place in Washington, DC. He was attentive had many people help us. If you dont know finding a place to stay in DC is a nightmare. SO Common was my go to as it brought a sense of ease into moving.I gave the company one star as reaching the company at times is difficult and other times I can find a Common employee easily. i would like that to be improved.Umm if you missed one tour then getting to another Common rental property is a headache as you will have to call and leave a message. I would just do what needs to be done the first time! Word to the wise is sufficient!
I moved in with common this week and I’m super impressed. I chose to move into the units that were ‘available now’. The way the company works is that they assign you to one representative who is able to handle your showings and requests for a variety of properties. I was fortunately in talks with Marquise Callaway, an absolute charm to work with. His enthusiasm and promptness allowed me to study all options I had in mind and make a confident decision about choosing the property I wanted to live in. My customer experience has been stellar so far!
I am editing my review. At first everything was great, maintenance was timely and efficient. However... Things have changed. But the main thing is that I moved out at the end of August and I STILL havent received my direct deposit back. Ive provided a forwarding address a month before I moved out. Since then Ive emailed and called, confirmed my address twice already, provided all necessary information for the direct deposit, and still havent got my money back. I dont know how many more times I have to confirm anything or contact someone for this to be finally processed. So yeah, at this point its a one star experience.
I had the best experience with leasing agent Zack S. I was really frustrated with Common because they werent answering my calls or emails (I called them over 20 times in two days and nothing). When Zack saw that my application wasnt taken care of, he immediately messaged me and helped me with every problem and question I had. He was fast, responsive and always super helpful. I have now signed a lease and Im excited to move in soon! Zack really made a frustrating experience a really good experience with Common co-living.
My review is about a specific employee, Kristen Z. She has been outstandingly great at everything. She gave me a great virtual tour. Coming from out of town, I had tons of questions, but she answered all of my questions in great detail. Thanks to Kristen, my move in was a very smooth process, all the way down to my roommate pairing! Kristen responds to emails in a timely manner as well, the communication is great for sure so no need to worry about that when working with Kristen!Overall Kristen is fantastic, she goes above and beyond! Thank you Kristen, I really appreciate you! :)
Kelly Alvarado was so great at showing the space and helping us through the steps to find and move into the apartment we really wanted to get. She helped us efficiently and even did extra work in communicating with us supporting us through the move process! Thank you Kelly So much!
DO NOT STAY WITH THEM. They are very difficult to get in touch with even with minor issues. I have been trying to get in touch with them to transfer to a different apartment and its been over one month, but no one even respond to my email or try to get back to me over the phone. I am very disappointed with their leasing and transfer team and this is not how a professional leasing department should be!In addition, they promised the weekly cleaning and the people either dont come or did not clean thoroughly.
Jayne!! You were great, thank you so much for your assistance, We noticed that the lock was not working on Friday at 6pm, I thought we were staying the whole weekend stuck, gladly Jayne arranged everything and within an hour my proble was solved.Thank you so much again!!
I signed a lease with Common in January as I was a student intern and needed a comfortable and quick place to stay in New York City. I had a great experience and decided to resign another lease for a year. Mid way through my lease Common sold our building to another property management and gave us not even a 2 weeks notice. New management has been terrible, trash disposal has not been taken out in nearly 2 weeks (I had to file a sanitation complaint with the state who launched an investigation ) and Common claims they are no longer responsible for any inconveniences this may have caused and removed us from the Common app. This is extremely unprofessional, I signed my lease with Common and now have been forced to finish a lease under new property management who we are not familiar with at all, a fee of $45 to simply pay my rent using a credit card as well as no cleaning service but expected to pay the same amount in rent with a decrease in service. Extremely unacceptable and would not recommend to anyone interested. Homes are not up to date and pictures are staged. Absolutely inexcusable!
Common Living is a large network of communities across the country. My experience is specific to the BEI community in the Bay Area -- where I found the ideal interim solution when a series of events led to an unexpectedly fast move. With 48 hours to find a place to live temporarily, Commons online resources gave me what I needed to make BEI one of the final couple options to decide between. Then ONE factor led to making the call: CHRIS. The on-site BEI community manager made what would have been a bumpy transition anywhere else a simple, quick process and I was literally picking up keys hours after signing a lease Id applied for just a day earlier.
This company will absolutely risk your health and safety for a check. I am currently stuck in a suite with a new roommate that is trying to terrorize us with loud, violent music, by slamming doors, and stomping around the house. Today marks the fourth time we have had to call the police. I and two other suitemates did not feel safe to sleep in the apartment one evening and had to pay for a hotel.
So far so good! looking forward to living here.Zack Sultan was very helpful in the process. I was able to do some tours in person but there was a few that had to be done virtually and he assisted and worked with me as I was abroad. The only note is that the leasing office as a whole could be more responsive and timely with emails.
I love the apartments and the way things are set up!The location is terribly convenient! I appreciate now the communication with the support team. I’ve had a couple of things needed in my apartment and they answered pretty quickly. There are some things that can be tweaked, but overall I am happy with my choice of moving here. 😊Common TerrySeattle, WA
One of the worst landlords. The family-friendly act is a sham. They do not maintain their properties (for example, front door constantly breaking), appliances breaking all the time, and there is trash everywhere. Also, they have failed to return my security deposit after two months since moving out. At best, you have an overpriced apartment that is no good. At worst, you are forced to pursue legal action for them to return your deposit.Re: feedback to your member support: I have emailed you several times, and you havent sent the deposit. You similarly didnt address things when I lived there.
They lure you in with the nice apartment and (sometimes) cheaper rent than regular apartments, then leave you be with whatever trash situation youre in. They only fixed the boiler that left us without hot water for more than a month once we filed formal complaints to the city. They fail to give us any expectations for when anything that went wrong would be fixed. From the basement being flooded, an oven knob that fell off, or the courtyard that was trashed with a massive tree branch that fell during a storm. They fail to train people or dont train at all, including a cleaner who kept going into our room leaving trash around and cleaning, as well as a Common tour guy, who shows rooms around in our house, who told me that You are here [in the USA] now and should adapt when I asked him to take his shoes off during future tours because we all do that in our house.Honestly, just spend more time looking for a room anywhere else.EDITED AND ADDED in response to Commons reply: Common is, as you can see, great at replying right away to make sure that you are heard, then it goes downhill. We got a same kind of reply when our basement furniture was damaged and they wanted time to change it. After a month waiting for their design or interior team to do anything, a member in the same house complained saying that we are paying rent that includes a basement we cant use, so wed like some of our rent back. This is when Common came in the next day, cleaned the garden and furnished the basement. It is only once you make a formal complaint, ask for money back or leave a bad review, that Common gets things done.
I lived at Common Marcy for 6 months. It was a great experience! The apartment was very spacious with modern appliances and styling. My roommates were very kind and we all got along very well. Having your household goods resupplied by Common and all utilities included in rent are two things I will definitely miss in future apartments. Overall my time living with Common was a great experience and I would recommend it to anyone!
I moved to DC July 2020 and this place is a perfect place to start when you know nothing about the area. Intended to stay 3 months and Im still here. Im now ready for my own place but there are no 1 bedrooms available but liking Union Market and found a place next door. I recently worked with Layne, Member Support Specialist, to extend my move out date 1 week. One e-mail and a solution was quickly provided. Thanks Layne for be flexible and accommodating!
The tour was great. Zack was great. However moving in was terrible. The team was very unresponsive and didnt really help me with the moving in process. Also, Common had a lot of problems I was unaware of. Felt like they just wanted someone to move into the space, just so they arent losing money. But again, the tour was great. Zack was great.
Zack was very helpful with the tour and general information. Communication was super poor, hard to get a hold of anyone to ask any questions. Zack was the only one who made himself readily available by phone or email. The apartments are amazing, clean and updated in a safe and nice area. Once you get past dealing with the leasing office it’s a great place.
Zack Sultan was beyond helpful. He answered every single question I had and was very responsive to my emails because of this I was able to quickly get my application done in the short period of time that I had and not only that but found the perfect room in the process because of him. Definitely will recommend common to any friends who are looking to move due to the fact that this team stays on top of it.
Hi guys,i m Jessi and I have been living in common city garden for 1 year..I love this place and management, worker specially MARIBEL ,she is super nice girl if u have any kind of issues about home, lease you should tell her.. if u wanna live in San Francisco ,city garden is best place for living ..Thank you..
The ONLY reason I am giving this 5 stars is because of one man, Austin Fetter. I just moved to Washington from Michigan for my work, and I needed an apartment fast, he helped me with signing my lease online, and explained everything to me. When I got here I received keys for my apartment that didn’t work, and a few days later than I was supposed to after having to message and call the emergency line for hours. when I realized the keys didn’t work, I called the emergency number and had to play phone tag with them and was getting no answers. Austin happened to see me, and asked if I needed any help. I explained the situation and he dropped what he was doing to help me so I could access my apartment. I’m sure he had other things to do, but the fact that he stopped to help me speaks volumes as to who he is as a person. He is a 5 star employee and Common is very very lucky to have him!
I am a college student and was in need of a reasonably priced apartment for the summer, Common ended up being that spot for me and included amenities that other places did not. The leasing specialist(Cody) has done an amazing job of helping me throughout the leasing process, which was my first time doing so. He was very resourceful, proactive and easy to get in touch with when I had questions. It did take a bit of time to hear from the leasing team(needed to move in quick), but Cody did his best to move the process quickly for me.
I have lived here for only 2 weeks and cannot wait to leave as I already cannot get ANY of the issues Ive brought up to member services to be resolved in a timely and professional manner. You will receive generic responses from different reps each time you get an email regarding an issue and they will not respond when you ask why things are taking so long or be able to reference other tickets in their own system for some reason. I was never provided a mailbox key upon move in, and have been told more than once I would receive a key from maintenance; after the first week long delay the maintenance guy shows up only to admit he doesnt have a key because someone took the master. He then proceeds to tell me if one of my suitemates has a key he can come back to make a copy the next business day. Now member services is telling me its going to take another 4 days for maintenance to return and that there is no ticket in the system for the key. In addition, the caulking around my window is damaged from moisture and I reported that the day after moving in and nothing has been done yet (the maintenance man also assured me hed be back today to finish that) thatll take another 4 days to fix for some reason. If you can go somewhere else as they will not take your issues seriously once theyve received their money.
I am so relieved and elated to be moving into my co-living space with Common!!!! Cody turned my daunting apartment search into a mind blowing experience! He was beyond great as he took his time to fit me into his schedule stating that he sensed my urgency to move (which couldn’t be more accurate). Throughout my tour he was extremely knowledgeable about the amenities and differences in each unit. He explained every step of the process and broke down the fees plain and simple. I loved everything about my visit today so much so I applied on the spot! Cannot wait to move in! Thanks so much Cody for taking the stress off of me to allow me to enjoy my Memorial Day weekend! *I’m not crying, you’re crying*
Working with agents like James Troyer makes living in this place SO easy. I get responses for my home asap, and hes so personable and easy to communicate with. I am transferring rooms to stay for another year, and James was able to make this happen in a 6 minute phone call. Ive lived at a lot of apartments, and nowhere else is it THAT easy.
Common recently took over The Lanes in Long Island City, NY and many tenants have had nothing good to say. Ive been double charged for rent without any prompt response from the Common team. I opened many tickets, sent countless emails and did not receive any response besides, I will forward this to my billing/finance team. I ultimately had to go through my bank to get them to drop the additional payment.Since then I have changed my payment method to check for future rent. I submitted the check per the instructions on their website and it still has not been cleared from my bank account after one month. During this time Ive tried reaching out to the member support team and have sent many e-mails without any more of a response then, I will forward this request to my billing/finance team. I still havent heard back - its a month! Does anyone work in the billing team or is that a robot too?!You can expect to receive poor quality and non responsive service from Common. They will avoid contact with any of their tenants by using an online portal. The emergency number does not even pickup the phone and if they do they will not help you with any of your billing concerns as it isnt their job. Common is only looking to make a dollar w/ no customer service and professionalism. Its best to stay away!
I am a college student completely new to the leasing process but the community manager (Cody Prescott) did absolutely everything to streamline the process and ping the necessary parties so that my application would be considered. I had an extremely stressful past couple of days including missing a flight and having to rearrange plans in order to get to my internship on time and the patience that Cody has shown was nothing but extraordinary. I know that it took a lot to deal with my persistence but Cody never got upset with me and very much took my repeated messages in professional stride and did not seem bothered at all. He is a true professional and I would readily work with him again.
I am really enjoying my experience with common so far. The company employees are friendly and professional, and are casual in a way that is inviting but stable. The space is great, and I love the amenities. The building is well constructed, and I have loved being able to live in a positive co-living situation. I would recommend common to students, and people moving in between places, for a calm and safe environment.
James Troyer, my dedicated leasing specialist, was absolutely wonderful in helping with my lease renewal. Friendly, courteous & willing to work with me in regards to lease terms + payment. I absolutely LOVE the apartment, its in an *incredible* neighborhood & is beyond affordable given the location + amenities provided. If it werent for this place, I wouldnt have moved to the city. Very grateful to Common for helping make my NYC dreams come true!
Julie has been the best person to contact and get matters handled. Common overall is a great place to live, especially if youre like me and have to bounce around from time to time. I have recommend Common to a lot of my friends because of the convenience of it all. And I truly want to thank Julie for answering ever little question I may have and shes always really nice, very professional, and helpful!
Cody, my leasing specialist is truly a gem! I loved his welcoming energy and full knowledge about the organization. I enjoyed my tour of the Union Market location. He showed me all of the wonder amenities and we told me that he picked out the wallpaper for a few of the common areas! The building itself is stunning, modern and really clean! Just minutes away from the No-ma Galludette Metro (4 min walk) and nearby grocery stores, restaurants and shops. The pricing for the suites are a little expensive for this particular location. Be sure to ask the your leasing specialist about pricing! As for the co-living suites, they’re beautifully constructed with nice neutral colors, huge windows in the bedrooms, bedroom furniture, spacious bathrooms, keyless entry/lock on bedroom doors and provided household necessities. Although, I am not a tenant (yet). I would highly consider common as a living option. Especially, if you want to live in the city or looking for a nice place to call home short or long term. Only down side, you don’t know who you’ll be living with and they’re living habits. But I love the idea of co-living in a nice and luxurious apartment building! Check it out!
Edit:I was misinformed by several Common employees, one from the leasing office and one from member support that I would be sharing an apartment with one other roommate. I had to find out from my soon-to-be roommates that I will in fact be sharing my apartment with SEVEN other people. I found this out one week away from move-in. I feel disappointed and deceived. I was offered a very small amount off of my monthly rent for the inconvenience.Based off of my experience so far, I cannot recommend that anyone rent through Common.Previous review:My member support specialist Julie was a dream to work with! She answered all of my many questions with a quick response time. I couldn’t be more excited to move into my new place!
I just moved in last week and the move in process was a breeze. Place came with paper towels, toilet tissue, soap, and other amenities that apartments usually don’t come with. Weekly cleaning service, apartment is beautiful, I’ve gotten so many compliments on the bathroom, living room/kitchen and my bedroom. Service seems responsive so far. It’s just me and one roommate in a 3 bedroom currently so there is plenty of space. Not exactly sure how things will be if/when 3rd person moves in (There’s 2 bathrooms and limited storage space) but I’m enjoying my stay so far and really looking forward to the rest of my lease. I would renew it possible for another lease as of now!
Common Frankford is a joke.Moving into a new city with nothing, Common paints the picture very nicely, that they provide everything. But one thing they fail to mention is that the customer response time. No one ever answers emails. When you point it out, they send Julie, who is an absolute dream and seems to be carrying the whole Common weight on her shoulders.I made the mistake of signing a long, long term lease and my emails go unresponsive. I have already moved in and have no information about mail, cleaning schedule or anything else pertaining to the apartment. I was lucky to ask my roommate for the wifi password because Common cannot provide that.If you have an android device, forget about moving in. They use an app and apparently isnt compatible with android devices. If you get locked out of your apartment, you are SOL, because when you call the emergency line, a very rude lady will answer and say that you being locked out for the weekend isnt an emergency and need to wait for the building to open on Monday.
I recently came in for a tour with Cody and had an amazing experience! Cody was very helpful and recommended units that worked best within my budget. He was extremely kind and gave thorough information about the units that we toured as well as the entire neighborhood itself while also adhering to all of my requests and concerns. Overall i really enjoyed my viewing and with the help of Cody I found a unit that worked great for me!
Legit everything that could be wrong with this place is. I am in DC in Common Richardson, I started out here two years ago, it was pretty cool, then after the pandemic it dropped it quality in service and common goods. Thennnnnn they moved literal teenagers into the home. Mind you I am 30, this is not a place for professionals. This has turned into a dorm. They have friends over and loud parties, and the leave the house FILTHY. I have shared photos videos and more with Common, nothing has been done (they sent a general email) and thats IF they respond. The final straw, they changed portals for paying rent (which they automatically draft) and on the first two different Common systems took money out of my account. Guess if I have gotten my money back, or even had timely communication with Common, NOPE! I had to message people in the company on LinkedIn to even get a response from anyone on their team. Do not live here. EVER.
My wife and I have lived in a private unit at Common Baltic in NYC for almost 2 years and we love it. We are relocating because we need a larger apartment and dont mind going further into Brooklyn for a better deal (given I am not commuting for at least a few more months). The building is modern and clean and has great amenities. Common also offers a lot of events to tenants for free, which was a great way to have fun and meet some of your neighbors (more valuable when events were in person, but still). The best part of living at Common has been the people! David and Paul go above and beyond keeping the building beautiful and in tip-top shape. And Connie lights up your day when she greets you. She greets everyone with a warm and happy exuberance that makes this place feel like home. We will definitely miss all of them.We have really loved living at Common Baltic and would recommend the place for anyone looking for a great place to live.
Recently moved to the west coast to return to office and was looking for a quick place to call home as I explored the Bay Area. Common at the BEI Hotel has absolutely been the right choice as its close in proximity to my office, eateries, venues, bars, grocery stores, etc. Chris, the community manager has also been amazing. Hes the most responsive Community Manager ive ever encountered and ive been living in apartments for the better part of 8 years. Great value, professional, and very responsive highly recommend Common.
I just moved in and I’m very happy! Zack Sultan was amazing at helping me find a good place. Super knowledgeable, honest, and very easy to get in contact with. Made everything go smoothly. Highly recommend reaching out to him if you’re thinking about choosing common.
Searching remotely for the perfect first apartment for my daughter hasnt been easy but working with someone like Cody Kindle at Common was such a relief. He answered all of my mom questions about the building maintenance, security and ammenities. He didnt try to oversell the property and even went the extra mile when I asked him to send me pictures of the outside of the building and the view corner to corner. He was super responsive and walked me through the application process and fees. We didnt end up taking the place because it didnt work out for my daughters roomate. It was a great experience and definitely set the bar even higher for what I expect now!
Honestly Common is one of the worst companies ever. For the first few months, they will be responsive and after a while they completely forget about you. At the moment I’ve been trying to get into contact with their leasing team but all they do is gaslight me. Horrible service, and honestly just avoid them altogether. They prey on young professionals and students. Wouldn’t recommend them whatsoever. I might actually make a TikTok video recounting my experience with their neglectful behavior. Not to mention that they left my building halfway through our lease, and left us in the abyss.
Do not do it. This business will not respect you or your hard earned money. They will hang up on you whenever you have problems. They will not answer your questions, and you will continue to be lead in circles while they continue taking your money. Respect yourself. Respect your money. Do not bother with common living.
I rented a unit from Common Living in Hampton, VA - Noah at Barrington Woods and it was the absolute worst apartment I have ever had the displeasure of living in. Move-in date was wrong, so I drove 4 hours and couldnt even unpack, Roaches, oven door fell off the hinges, door knob fell off the first couple months I moved, neighbors couldnt read the no loitering signs, broken glass on the premises, delayed repairs, negligent maintenance, and to beat all when my apartment flooded with sewage water due to backed up lines, the maintenance staff thought it was okay to leave the fecal covered baseboards in the unit, but kindly replaced the floor as if they didnt understand contamination worked. They sat items that were in the water on top of clean surfaces further contaminated my property... A COMPLETE NIGHTMARE
Imma be completely honest I had the hardest time getting in contact with anyone for a while in regards to me renewing my lease but when I finally got in contact with Maribel Bejar she was PHENOMENAL. She was very attentive with my case and would stop whatever she was doing and call me whenever I had a problem. She would get right on it and handle it for me with out any reminders or prompts. I was ready to leave common because of the lack of communication but because of Maribel she has changed my mind about this building. Everyone needs a Maribel at the site.
Ive had great customer service from the Common team – Layne has been especially helpful and responsive as I prepare for an upcoming move to one of the Chicago apartments. Ive had a great experience with Common so far and would recommend it to other people looking for accommodation in a new city!
You name it, it went wrong. The bathtub started chipping??? The doorknob literally fell off in my hands and maintenance was not responsive until 15 hours later... So I had to fix it myself to avoid a break-in while I slept, the ceiling bubbled up, there were roaches everywhere. My neighbors sink suds would come up in my sink. This place was TRASH. Absolute trash. I will NEVER rent from this corporation again.
I have not lived in a Common Dean since Aug 2021 and Common has yet to cancel my monthly payment to Obligo which is money i dont get back. I have sent them multiple emails and called them with no response back after I moved out. Cancel my account because i will no longer be paying the $9 a month for a space I am no longer occupying and for a space that is currently occupied by another tenant.
I am so happy to be moving into a property manger by common leasing. I was given so much insight and help from their agents and the team, especially Zack Sultan as he helped me throughout the whole process and ensured I got the apartment of my dreams! Super grateful and stoked to be part of the common family! To new beginnings ✨✨✨
Kristen Zavala was nothing but extremely helpful and responsive during the leasing process. Whenever I had a question or need, Kristen would immediately provide support and guidance. In addition to supporting me prior to moving in, throughout the duration of my lease Kristen was always available to assist where needed. My experience at Common would not have been the same without her. 10/10. 5 stars. Kristen is a rockstar.
Cody with Common Co-living and Apartments in D.C is truly phenomenal ! Securing housing for students is pretty stressful right now, but I was able to secure a place with confidence due to the outstanding customer service I was afforded ! The process of leasing remotely was seamless ! Thanks fo Cody and the rest of the team for your hard work and dedication !
Absolutely terrible experience. They recently acquired our building and want us to pay through an app. There is no option to make an account on the app, and no information has been sent to me regarding my payment account. I have been calling since 9/18 DAILY with no response whatsoever from Common. The front office is appointment only due to covid. But guess what? No one is picking up the phones to allow us to create an appointment! This is absolutely the worst service I’ve had from ANY property management company in my history of renting. I am so disgusted and disappointed.
Where do I begin. This is the most POORLY managed property company I have ever experienced. To start off, I live at the Philadelphia Frankford Location. There is no property manager, no leasing office, and no direct phone number for this specific building. When you have an issue and need to call the company, you are given the emergency hotline number or the NYC number listed online. When you call (IF SOMEONE EVEN ANSWERS) it is a person who is not able to address any issues. They can only create tickets to submit to management to be resolved. If you try to email the email listed, you get an automatic response from a robot telling you that someone will reach out shortly, which DOES NOT HAPPEN. This causes an extreme delay in response IF YOU EVEN GET ONE AT ALL.The portal online is absolutely terrible for managing payments. It is glitchy and shows no information about your transactions or payments AT ALL. For 2 months, my payments for rent have are shown as Processing. Processing? For two months? I started to get emails from a robot telling me my rent is overdue - when I have tried multiple times to pay it. I tried changing my payment method and bank account number and the portal will not let me. I have been calling, emailing, and creating tickets for 2 MONTHS. I have not been contacted ONE TIME by a person in authority that could actually help me and resolve the issue. This company is so poorly managed it is NOT worth living here at all. It is absolutely insane at the amount that they charge for rent when they cannot even provide the service that they are supposed to. I am appalled. Thank god my lease was only for 3 months. Who KNOWS IF MY ISSUE WILL EVEN BE RESOLVED BY THE TIME I MOVE OUT. I cannot imagine if I had an actual issue with my apartment (locked out/broken appliance). I am sure that it would take months for it to be resolved.Until this company implements a property management system, has a leasing office located in Philadelphia, and fixes their chain of command I do not suggest living here. Renters are not their priority - social media and marketing is.
I moved out in June after transferring my lease to another individual. It is now November and they have not closed out my account with the third party company Obligo (they use them to collect deposits) resulting in me still being charged $10 a month for using Obligos service. In addition my security deposit has not been returned. They do not answer emails, they do not have an official customer service number and they have been looking into it for weeks now. This review will be edited and I will be sure to give more details on my horrible experience with this company. Save yourself the legal woes and DO NOT sign a lease with Common.
Cody was so kind in helping me and my suite mate find and secure a room that was perfect for our needs! His response time was impeccable and his desire to help us fulfill our needs was so genuine! He was very patient and went the extra mile to show us the essence of the commons without us even being there physically! He made our leasing experience super worthwhile! Thank you Cody!!
I reserved a room, paid for it, signed a lease, and was on my way to the building on my moving day (today). As access codes were not given to me, I kept calling and texting the leasing person I was dealing with and was getting sporadic answers here and there.I was now on site, sitting outside the building with 4 pieces of luggage without having the login info/code to access the building for about an hour or so, all while needing to connect to my job and work…To actually find out that the room I reserved is not available and is still being occupied by someone else.A much smaller room was offered after I insisted on the phone and texts. However, I requested a tour before making my decision as I have insisted on the size during the touring and in all my exchanges because I am claustrophobic and can’t be in a tiny room.Again, my calls and texts were ignored and the one answer I got was vague and did not confirm or deny the tour. Now, 3 hours into waiting and calling the emergency line operators. I was constantly being told that someone from the leasing office will get back to me as they had found an alternative or a different room.Mind you, I moved from France 3 days ago and was in a hotel that I checked out from with nowhere to go.While waiting, I had plenty of time to talk to all the tenants that were in and out of the building and they all complained about the shady practices of management and how unresponsive and awful they were (25 days without AC, increase in rent without notice, unattended maintenance requests, etc.)After waiting 5 hours, I book a last minute expensive hotel, jump back in an Uber to head back to the hotel I was in and email Common management to refund me and to tell them that have never seen such unprofessional way of conducting business and such an awful and poor customer service. They reply within 2 minutes and offer an alternative room, access codes, and all details by email.Anyway, long story short. I will sue this company if they don’t refund me and I advise anyone considering them not to move forward. This is a horrible company.
OVERALL RATING: 2.5I joined Common in June 2020, for the first three months I got along good with my roommates and everything was great until one of my roommates decided to transfer out.In November 2020, the new roommate who replaced her attempted to attack me with a knife while insinuating that I touched the thermostat in the kitchen and trying to freeze her to death. The situation was escalating and thankfully another roommate walked in and she proceeded to berate him as well insinuating that he was the one who touched the thermostat. After this happened on Election Day of all days, the atmosphere completely changed in the whole apartment and we all avoided this person extensively. It felt like we were all walking on eggshells avoiding this person for the next two months.Literally 3 months later, a similar situation occurred but with the same roommate who walked in the first time. She proceeded to go absolutely ballistic and was threatening to physically assault my roommate who was a male. I heard the noise and I had to call 911 to report her, once the cops showed up she acted all normal. After this situation which caused me to have an anxiety attack this was the final straw.I decided not to renew my lease as there were several other issues with maintenance and repairs that were never completed and just other issues in general (like the sudden change in supplies for the apartment and the sudden in person tours without any notice).Honestly the only reason they got such a rating from me is because the property and member services team did a great job in ALWAYS responding to my messages. I would like to thank them all (Richard, Julie, Dillan, Sasha, Veronica, Monica of the Members team and Oscar from the Property team). At the end of the day, my takeaway is decide to move at your own risk. I didn’t know that there were other situations by others who experiences something similar. Be aware that you don’t know or choose who you live with so it’s all up in the air. Sometimes you might get a good draw but most times you won’t. Would be best for those who want to stay a short time but Common is suggesting longer leases now.
Really happy with the entire touring process. Urgency was a critical factor for me, and I was looking at lots of options. The personal touch from Zack at Common really made all the difference — professional, responsive, and he took the time to listen and understand my needs. After the first tour with Zack, I cancelled my other options, and he got my situated fast and seamlessly.
Common has been fantastic to work with. I specifically worked with Adrian surrounding all of my leasing needs. He was very professional, worked with me in a personalized manner, and jumped into my request immediately. Leasing is usually a stressful situation but Adrian made it a seamless, and most importantly, stress-free process!
We have lived in one of the private duplex units at Common - 595 Baltic St for nearly 3 years and have absolutely loved our home here. We are relocating due to a job opportunity, otherwise we would stay indefinitely! The building is clean and modern yet cozy and warm. The amenities are wonderful for the area - including elevator, package acceptance/storage, full gym, furnished roof top w/grill and two common areas great to hang out in or work. All of which we have used and loved often. With that, the greatest part of living here has been the people! David and Paul go above and beyond keeping the building beautiful and in tip-top shape and are so eager and helpful when you have anything maintenance related. And they never keep you waiting! And Connie - Connie is a ray of sunshine every day! She greets everyone with a warm and happy exuberance and really just makes this place feel like home. Common also does loads to help everyone meet and interact with their neighbors, tons of events (pre-Covid) and a dedicated app to interact with others in the building. Youre welcome to keep to yourself, but if you want to meet and socialize with your neighbors, Common is the place to live!We have really loved living at Common Baltic and would recommend the place for anyone looking for a great place to live!
Common Kingston was my home for a year and it was wonderful, having moved to NYC with pretty sparse belongings I loved being able to have a place totally set up. the space is beautiful, appliances are fantastic and everything you could think of is included. Everyone on their support team was super friendly and responsive whenever there was an issue; truly the future of renting in my opinion I had a great experience from when I reached out through to when I moved out
The furnishings are nice, and many of their amenities are great for the price. HOWEVER, if you are even considering Common, DONT!!!! The interaction with management, leasing, and sales has been absolutely AWFUL! I would call and email to inquire about various properties, and could never get a straight answer about the price and availability of units. I would speak with one person, who would say that a given property was available immediately but was $1500/month (net effective), but then would speak with another person who would say that the property was not available for weeks, and was actually only $1100/month (net effective). This back and forth went on for weeks, before I finally found a place I was happy with and could snag a great price for. However, when I called sales back to ask them a quick question, they told me that the cheapest unit was $1900/month (yeah, right?). I told them that I had literally JUST spoken with the leasing agent ON SITE, and she told me the price was $1250... sales told me that they didnt know anything about that LOL!!! The email confirmation I got FROM THAT VERY SAME LEASING AGENT (who had previously given me the $1200 net effective price) said that the apartment was only $1,000. WHHHAAATTTTT???? WHATTTTTTTT???? I wasnt going to complain about getting a lower price, but it was still SUPER annoying to get so many mixed messages. I decided to go ahead and sign the lease, and read ALL TWO HUNDRED AND TWENTY PAGES of it. Both parties (myself and common) signed all leasing documents, and yet they are now trying to force me to get renters insurance and pay a security deposit and larger 1st months rent than normal which are *explicitly not required in the lease.* If you are one of those people who just signs things without reading and agrees to whatever they tell you to do, you might be fine... but if you care about what youre signing and want your landlord to honor their commitments under the lease, then I would look elsewhere.
For their property The Edge in Fort Lauderdale FLI was very happy living there, the units are new and all appliances were top of the line. Maintenance was always very responsive and took care of any issues I did have. The only downside to the community is it is near a major roadway and it can be a bit loud at times - but thats not really their fault.Anytime I needed help with my lease or apartment - Adrian Hines was great! He was very responsive and helpful with any questions I had. I was given his direct line and email so it made communication so much easier instead of having to call the office and be directed to him.
I’m moving to new york in a few months and the first thing i looked to was common , i had found their instagram a year or so again and i literally couldn’t believe i could live in new york for less than 1000 and not have to live in a messy a*s apartment😂i scheduled a tour a few weeks ago bc i thought i was moving to new york earlier and they were so professional and nice! when i do move soon i’ll use common, i’m honestly so excited!!!
DC MONROE: The people who sign you up have never even see the building. No one in the management is easy to reach by phone. The maintenance team has no idea how to fix anything. When there are issues Common takes no ownership for it. We had a drunk homeless man sleeping on our lobby stairs yesterday morning. Our mail is constantly missing and common doesn’t care. We just had the 3rd leak. Water was leaking from my bathroom sink. Water was leaking from the first bedroom’s fire sprinkler and it hasn’t been fixed for 3 months. And this morning water was bursting from our light fixtures and ceiling over the kitchen. Turns out the maintenance man was responsible for it. They pressure you into signing a renewal lease halfway through your lease ending. They do not take ownership for their issues. They refuse to compensate you financially. Staff and management is incompetent. Don’t move in here. It’s not worth it, especially in the stress of pandemic.
Honestly I was soooo cautious and worried about moving in here. Living with people I dont know in a place I dont know!? But with COVID my friends that I had planned on moving with were no longer moving. I signed a six month lease and Im now renewing for 15 more. I absolutely love my apartment, I absolutely love my roommates. This place is beautiful, came beautifully furnished, and whenever we have the occasional issue management is usually there day of to fix it. Obviously if people ended up with bad roommates this would suck- but mine are now my best friends in the city! I love Common and I feel so fortunate to have come across this opportunity.
I was truly impressed by the living environment and furnished common sable. Thank you to Zackery Faszczewski who was theLeasing Specialist and made my move-transition simple. I appreciate the quality of his service to provide me with the most suitable, comfortable living arrangement.
As of writing this review, Ive been living at Commons Capitol Hill building in Seattle for a few days. The initial move-in process was very smooth; I had no trouble accessing the building and my room when my move-in date arrived. When I moved in, the room was clean, and all amenities (i.e. fridge, microwave) worked as intended. Commons representatives have responded to all of my questions quickly and professionally, and any small-scale questions I have are easy to find answers to on their website. Also, as someone whos on the web a lot, Ive found the wifi speed to be adequate, but there are options available for those who require faster speeds. So far, its been a great experience!
It was great living at common Clifton In D.C. their service is getting worse, not clifton building, only Common service. They provided weekly shared supplies as promised when i first signed the lease then now they significantly reduced both quality and quality of the products. Instead of weekly supplies, now they deliver monthly supplies. Paper towels and toilet papers are like from dollar tree store. They provided cheap laundry pods. They now supply worst liquid laundry detergent every three months, I feel like it’s just water and we ended up buying our tide laundry pods. They always deliver late. They didn’t deliver the supplies this month and no single word from them. I asked them to get reimbursement for the products we have to buy because they didn’t deliver it but they refused to give us money back and promised to deliver on time next month. REALLY!!!! I never trust them and won’t join them again.I been with JuneHomes and they provide similar service. bungalow is also good.If you don’t believe, check shared good section in membership agreement. They have right to refuse giving you shared supplies. BE CAREFUL!!! It is a trap in their membership agreement. Read it carefully before you decide to sign the lease.
Do business with this company at your own risk. My son had a summer internship and signed a 3 month lease for the North Hollywood location owned by Starcity. Common purchased Starcity in the middle of his lease. He moved out on 8/8, and has still not received his deposit nor has he received the refund of rent that was over paid. Attempts to contact them go unreturned . My wife sent an email on 9/8 and on 9/20 Natalie Vittini responded saying the refunds had been processed, but no money was ever received. They are dishonest and untrustworthy.
I moved into Common City Gardens in San Francisco in November. The place is brand new and very modern. I am in a shared space with five rooms, and so far everything is functioning well. The Common staff are professional and responsive to my concerns. With every new place there are growing pains, and the staff have made strong effort to address them as they arise. Julie has been very attentive in handling a couple of my concerns.I would recommend Common City Gardens to anyone who is looking for a quality/value balance and a safe and secure place to live.
After reading all these bad reviews about common, makes me regret my decision to sign a lease with them. I been living in common for a while now, when I first moved in it wasn’t as great. We always had issues with the place. The whole 3 months of rent you have to pay to get out of your lease is ridiculous. Tried to at least get a transfer some place closer to work but they lied saying there is nothing available when in reality they are so many places online. I can’t wait to part ways with common. Some of my roommates are okay, while my other roommates in the building leave a mess and don’t bother to clean it up. I do not recommend investing in common at all. If you want a place with better quality do not choose common. I repeat DO NOT CHOOSE COMMON.
I’ve had some major issues since moving in with my washing machine, television and remote, and the ever ongoing issues with the building’s front door entrance. The frustration of waiting for someone to come out via gate or front door to a place you pay rent is frustrating. You would think the purpose of having everything work via technology(app) is that it would be fail proof. But, I want to give a huge shoutout to Zack Sultan for always taking on the responsibility of resolving the issues by talking to the higher ups and keeping in touch with me to make sure the issue is being acknowledged and resolved by the higher ups. I really appreciate him for going above and beyond and his passion for resolving issues!!!
I’ve been a tenant at MacArthur Since 2018 when it was a fresh concept for modern living. Overall, it’s been an awesome experience. Clean, utilities included, strong wifi, washer/dryer in unit, fully furnished kitchen, plus the apartment gets cleaned once a week and restocked with the amenities included (paper towels, toilet paper, dish soap, hand soap, laundry detergent, garbage bags, etc.) My suite mates are cool too!Fast forward, I was having an issue with my keycard, due to some lease confusion from the management. I won’t go into detail, the issue got resolved.Archolo, assisted me, made sure my keycard worked normally, and that my situation was addressed and resolved. His customer service was 5 stars and a breath of fresh air! Thank you Archolo!
Applied to the Elmwood location and didn’t receive good service or help from the “specialist” for the location. After a very difficult few weeks trying to get my home sorted, I was finally assigned to a wonderful socialist for a different location by the name of Hayden Tweedie. She was amazingly helpful through the whole process, and actually answered my questions like she cared about my experience.I really appreciate all she was able to help me with through this process dispite my frustrations and angry feelings surrounding my early application process.
We lived at Common Baltic in Brooklyn for three years and it was an amazing experience. The building was always kept very clean and safe. Also, included in the rent was internet service, which extremely fast and reliable, which allowed me to seamlessly work from home. They also have a secure package room where they manage package deliveries from Amazon, etc, which made our lives easier. In addition, the staff was always friendly, helpful, and extremely fast at solving issues if they occurred.
I lived at Common Valencia in San Francisco and have had a great experience so far. Ive met a lot of great friends through the house and the cleaning and property services folks are top notch, very response, and really care about making your home better for you. It can seem a bit pricey, but Ive found that it has been fantastic value for the price with the inclusion of cleaning, furnishing, and the above & beyond support. Ive stayed for so long at Common because of this. By far, best property management services Ive ever encountered having rented from both large apartment complexes and individual landlords. Also, Common has significantly improved the community events since the time I first moved in. There were definitely a few bumps along the way, but the introduction of the community portal and co-created events process are making events way more frequent and open to all. Melissa helped a lot in setting up my event even with a short notice, and did a really good job with actively communicating the process and logistics. I love that theres someone who is now dedicated to curating and setting up events for us at Common. Relying solely on members to do this was really difficult, so this has been a great and well-needed development for Common to fully deliver on the promise of community.
Ive been living at Common for the last 3 months and personally found living with multiple people to be difficult. After expressing my concerns with the team, I was put in contact with the Renewal Manager Adrian who was able to accommodate my needs and promptly move me into a quieter suite! I was very grateful for his attentiveness and willingness to help me in this situation. He managed to turn what could have been a very hard situation into something positive and I am now considering extending my lease.Thank you Common and Adrian for your help!
I just moved into I5 in DC this week and I have a great experience. Specifically, I would like to thank Cody Prescott Kindle who made the process seamless and was very helpful with getting my parking situation set up as well. The building is great and has very nice amenities. So far highly recommend!!
My boyfriend and I have been living at the common for almost 3 months and we absolutely love it! We feel safe with the gated parking and package concierge. The suites are super cute and nicely decorated and the complex is always super clean. Everyone we have met here is so nice! We definitely recommend the Common Living!
Ive been in the new Halsey House in Brooklyn for 2 days now and have already submitted 2 helpdesk tickets: One for the showers and one for outlets that dont work (some do work but there are outlets that dont work all over the house). I suggest people dont move into Halsey House until Common does a run through of the building to make sure it is move-in ready. To their credit, they have been very responsive in emails, but well see how quickly the issues can be resolved.Edit: Potential residents should also be aware that cleanings of some houses, including Halsey are biweekly (not weekly as was printed on the website when I signed my lease...), and that restocking of common supplies occurs anywhere from monthly to tri-monthly. Running out before restock day means paying out of pocket.
My son Dylan was in the common Robinson in Harlem. It’s really a beautiful unit, the best of the co-living arrangements that I’ve seen. Unfortunately, he had some medical problems and needed to get out of the lease early. The staff was very helpful at working out an arrangement, in particular Alyssa who responded quickly to my emails and was in every way helpful.Previously Dylan had been with Roomrs. The difference in quality between Common and Roomrs is striking. The apartment is nicer, the roommates were way better, and customer service in a whole different league.
Common gave me a home. It gave me friends. And a place to grow.Hancock Will give You a clean, beautiful space & a room to call Your Own.I recommend this Home if You feel Ready to live independently, are responsible, & are able to take the small things in stride. You’re with a lot of People & it’s important to really take care of Yourself ~ because when everyone does that & does their Share ~ it creates Peace. At the same time, make it Home, while You’re there ~ Share Your Joy ~ it can mean a lot to Your roommates.Common has a lot of different staff members ~ most of which are extremely kind, understanding & thoughtful. My experience with Common can be Summed Up as: “Ask & You Will Receive.” Advocate for Yourself, communicate & stay positive ~ Everything Will Work out in You favor :)!
My experience with Common Living has been a fantastic one, including that I renewed another short term rental with an internal transfer.Tom has been an excellent resource in helping me with this, including finding the accommodation for me that met my price point and amenities I was looking for.Would recommend to others who are looking at reasonable short or long term stays!
Theres a lot to like about Common. For starters, my move-in was exceptional. I had very little difficulty getting into my building using the Latch app and was fortunate enough to have two of my suitemates help me move my things into my bedroom. The apartment itself is beautiful. I have all the amenities I could ask for (weekly cleaning, dishwasher, laundry/dryer, etc.) and utilities are included with the rent (even WiFi!). We have a full kitchen and a TV in the living room area. Lastly and most importantly, I love my room (its very spacious with a huge closet and a comfortable bed).If I were to voice one criticism, it would be that not everything that was said to be included in the apartment was included upon move-in (such as working AC, silverware, mugs/glasses, kitchen utensils) but all of these things were provided quickly upon request.All-in-all, Ive loved my Common experience and look forward to continuing it!
Just moved in recently and it’s all good so far.. dealt with many different members of the team, layne was great, nichol was wonderful. And there was another guys name that I feel bad for forgetting but he was good too! Haven’t had any issues and love the neighborhood. Laid back and quiet.
Im currently living in a common apartment. I needed assistance with getting my ESA animal accepted. Julie from common guided me through the whole process. She was always quick to respond to questions and got the whole process completed in under 2 weeks. Im very happy with the service Julie gave me. It was very appreciated!
I’ve had a really good experience with Common since moving here, and in particular I’ve had a great experience with the renewal process because of Deryck. He was easy to communicate with and I was able to go through the process of renewing my lease without any issues or concerns. He was a great help.
Ever since Common took over in managing our building the experience has gotten so much better! They are so available, responsive, willing to help, and friendly. I wish every building was managed by Common Living due to its focus on making their tenants happy. Keep up the good work!
Ive been pretty satisfied with my time at Common. I have enjoyed the service and cleanliness of the apartments. Its certainly a less stressful and more enjoyable apartment experience relative to my apartments/landlords in Manhattan. Its a great short term (3-6 months) solution for those new to New York and the Common team is very responsive to requests and issues. It certainly is priced at a premium but the convenience and lack of headaches is a great value.
Very responsive, friendly and professional staff; Marisa Arce gave a friendly, professional and thorough tour of the unit and grounds with excellent follow-up, afterwards. Development has most of the features one would expect in a luxury development. The STELLA is ten years old and could use some TLC. Still, I would seriously consider living at the STELLA...design of the units, the amenities and location are a HUGE plus.
I lived at common for two years and moved out two months ago. But, they still havent returned our SECURITY DEPOSIT without giving us any reason for it. By Law, common is required to be responsible to this and return our deposit in 14-60 days. We reached out to them several times and they started to just completely ignore our emails and calls. Common is so IRRESPONSIBLE.
Not sure why this place has 4 stars. They initially reached out to me through email. I replied back and I could barely get in touch with anyone and I don’t even live at one of their locations. I reached out online asking for more information about the application process since I wanted to move in fairly soon. I submitted my information online, called them, and left a message. I didn’t hear anything back. Then I booked a tour online and figured I could ask them my questions in person. They cancelled the tour the day of and told me I needed to reschedule. That was a week later and the first time I got a reply from someone. When I replied back stating that I’d like to get a few preliminary questions answered before proceeding. They ghosted me. The agent that reached out was Sabrina.Bottom line: I realized that if I couldn’t even get a reply from them before living there, I probably won’t get any replies if I did live at one of their locations.
Commons dereliction of duty goes far beyond being a poor quality apartment company .They are also a representation of what is means to provide inadequate co-living apartments.I have two suit mates, one of whom exhibits clear signs of mental illness. She imagines that others are taking items from her room, and has made accusations. She has violated the lease consistently with harassment (I had to call the police more than once) noise violations, and not adhering to basic suite etiquette and hygiene standards. I have video taped these incidents, and presented them to management .These incidents have been occurring continuously for over a month. Management has been slow to respond, even when I have expressed my discomfort, lack of sleep, and presented video evidence of the incidents and a police harassment report. We feel for our mentally ill suit mate, who we suspect may be receiving some form of rental assistance due to the fact that we have yet to see her demonstrate any evidence of gainful employment. The situation is untenable, and Commons clear lack of responsiveness reflects their priorities, which seem to be keeping a general source of revenue coming in, rather than the well-being of the entire suite. No wonder they cant find other tenants! It is a shame, reprehensible, and totally unacceptable.Allow me to add that it is not only a shame that Common for us, but for the offending suit mate as well. I understand that the mentally ill deserve housing. However, adequate housing should be provided, not a co-living situation that has requirements that somebody is not prepared for.Alas, Commons negligence includes areas like fixing the air conditioner. They miscommunicated regarding who would be responsible for these work orders, and I had to spend the night sleeping in the heat for no reason. This company fails in so many fundamental ways. They wont even communicate in person, but prefer to do so by email with stock answer such as we are forwarding this to our team. How can they expect the tenant to be patient when we are the ones experiencing harassment and disruptions? I hope the state holds them accountable.
I’ve lived at Common MacArthur here in Oakland for over a year and have loved everything about Common! Furnished apartments with weekly cleaning is an exceptional value. I’m also in the process of transferring to their LA location and this process has been super easy. I would recommend Common 10 out of 10 times to anyone looking to transition to a large city!
I just started renting with common and I absolutely love their Clifton apartments in Washington, DC. The space is clean and furnished with an eye for design. The space immediately felt like home. Deryck Othon, who is my Common Renewal Manager, has been so responsive to all emails and phone calls. He immediately puts you in touch with team members who can assist you. He is friendly, considerate, and knowledgeable about all things Common.

2022-05-12I’ve lived at The Wayland in St. Pete for the last two years. Overall it’s been a positive experience. It’s an older building and has some issues; could still use some thorough cleaning, window washing (hasn’t been done since I’ve lived here and are inaccessible to residents), and a healthy dose of interior paint throughout the building. But this new management company does seem to be genuinely improving the property. Nicole and Grace in the office are both great, and definitely bring a positive energy to any issues that arise. The events that they organize bring a little more life to the community, and I hope Common continues to manage the property and make improvements into the future.

2022-02-05Im staying at union market temporarily before returning to work. The staff is pretty accommodating. Ive asked them for assistance several time and theyve come through well. Danielle was my representative with my online portal and she was very timely with responding. Its a nice building with plenty of amenities. Several common areas to do work, a common kitchen, & plentiful outside areas. The rooms are spacious and accommodating. Large closet space, bathroom, and kitchen area. Consumables and washer/dryer are provided, which is a nice touch. There is no window in the kitchen for my unit, so it can get a little enclosed after a while. The age group of most tenants is early twenties. Its not the best place for remote workers. The tenants and employees talk loudly in the common areas and they dont seem to prioritize a quiet working environment.

2022-01-15I found my experience with Common to be clear, communicative, and pleasant. One of the things that drew me to the company in the first place was the straightforward and organized layout of its website and online information, and communication with Common employees followed through on that attribute. In comparison to many other responses Ive received concerning housing properties, Common seemed more proactive and practical. When selecting a living space, renters are putting a great deal of trust in those they lease from, and honest and direct communication is important to build this trust. I think Common employees did a great job of staying in touch and on top of my leasing process.

2022-07-15The weekly cleaning is great and the space is beautiful.Would not recommend Common to survivors of SA. There is no way for you to request that you do not receive male roommates in your unit, for example. I did not encounter any horror stories during my time with Common (one year), but did attempt to request that new roommates not be male, and was denied.Building security at Common Robinson is dismal and the company will do nothing to improve it. I had a package and a hand truck stolen out of the lobby while I lived there. Began sending my packages to a friends apartment during my lease. Often the front and inner doors would not fully close or lock. Reported issues to Common customer service and they handled it in their customary way - by sending a building wide email and then doing absolutely nothing. The building renovation at Common Robinson is superficially very beautiful, but has removed all of the sound dampening insulation. I could hear my upstairs neighbors business calls, which he took from 7:30 in the morning until after 10 at night. Could also hear the activity in my roommates rooms, and could relate the plot of a movie being watched in the living room unless it was played at incredibly low volume. Emailed customer service to ask about quiet hours and guess what? A building wide email! Dont live here if you would like occasional quiet where you live and sleep.Did not receive a mail key when I moved in, foolishly neglected to take a photo. I was charged for this when I moved out - I let them know that I never received the key, but at this point it was too late. This is on me. However, the charge was immediately forwarded to collections three days after the initial notification. I now have to mail the payment, even though I assume Common still has my payment information on file. Yall. When I moved in, I considered the rent reasonable considering the weekly cleaning, the paper goods, and the included utilities and internet. However, by the end of my lease, the rent felt exorbitant due to lack of privacy, hot water that frequently stopped working for days at a time, and endlessly frustrating and fruitless interactions with Common customer service. Common might be good for you if you need an address sight unseen for visa reasons, or if you want to know where youre landing for your first three months in a new city. Otherwise, go literally anywhere else.

2022-03-24Melissa is a leasing agent and she’s fantastic. I was moving from Texas to Philly for a job promotion and needed an apartment quickly. She was friendly and took a lot of the stress of apartment hunting out of the process. She told me honestly about the space and answered all of the questions I had. She suggested a guarantor after hearing about my situation and let me know how to get one. Well, turns out I didn’t need one and that my application was approved. Took less than 24 hours after I toured virtually with her to get a lease. Thank you so much for being great Melissa!!

2022-04-06Touring the Common apartments with Melissa R. was such a pleasure! In addition to the amazing amenities (and all inclusive rent) that Common has to offer, Melissa was able to show me the entirety of the building, some fun facts, and even went out of her way to share her experiences of what is around the apartment complex in terms of parking and what the surrounding area has to offer. She kept me updated throughout my lease application process and was transparent about the process of applying, fees, and payment options. If youre considering moving into a Common location, just schedule a tour, you will not be disappointed!

2022-05-19While I haven’t moved in yet, finding a place to live was a nightmare until I found common. Cedric Gordon could not have done a better job at helping me find the perfect room at the best price. He was always available to answer questions by email, call, or text whenever I needed him. He was super helpful throughout the process and was great at reminding me when things needed to be submitted. I had some trouble with completing the forms and let him know and he immediately called and walked me through everything I needed. I can’t wait to move in!

2022-07-21Jolene, in member services has proven her value to Common by taking ownership of a challenging situation and has made clear that she is skilled at balancing the needs of the business with the needs of the customer. She has demonstrated a keen understating of the impact a customer’s experience has on their loyalty to a brand. She has an innate ability to defuse tense situations by demonstrating her professionalism and her strong business acumen. She is knowledgeable, tenacious and anticipates possible challenges and works to keep the customer informed throughout the process. Her positive attitude combined with her ability to drive results has made all the difference to me. I hope Common recognizes her amazing talent and contribution to their ongoing success.

2022-03-31Earlier this month I toured several Common properties within Los Angeles. Most of the the tours were standard; however, one tour truly stood out from the rest. I was fortunate to book a tour with Kelly Alvarado at the Centinela Property. When I met her outside the apartment complex, she was punctual, upbeat, and very knowledgeable of the neighborhood. At the end of the tour I had more questions, which in turn lead to more questions (yea, Im that guy). Kelly was reassuring of the co-living process and was determined to answer every single one of my questions. She even helped me schedule a few more tours for other locations later in the week to make sure I found the right neighborhood in LA for me. Due to my work schedule, my moving date changed. However, Kelly made a huge impression, and I look forward to reaching out and moving into a property later in the year.

2022-05-20I just have to note how amazing Kaitlin was from member services. I had a request that I needed help with and not only did she get right back to me, but she was able to handle my request efficiently and effectively. I couldn’t be more pleased with her help and the overall outcome. This is the type of experience that makes it great to be a tenant at Common.
