When we had adopted a new dog who unfortunately had pancreatic cancer and became severely ill a few weeks into ownership we discovered Companion Animal. We had one get to meet you visit before Peanut fell ill. The staff went above and beyond and had a vet contact me on a day they were closed after receiving a hysterical email Because I didn’t know what to do and the emergency vet wanted $3000 up front to keep my dog overnight. The staff met me before hours, after hours, and when the quality of Peanut’s life decreased enough walked me through saying goodbye.Since then they’ve cared for all three of my rescue dogs. Handled medical emergencies for us with compassion and efficiency. Have we had to wait? Yes, but I’ve also been that emergency call bumping other appts. I’ve run into issues and been late so they’ve had to reschedule, completely understand as if even one patient runs 5 minutes behind it can back up an entire day. Our felines were established with a previous vet so remained with them. When they did pass Companion assisted without hesitation in their cremation and even though these animals were not their patients we received sympathy cards referencing all human and animal members of our family.
I have 5 animals. (4 cats 1 dog) My partner and I recently moved and needed to find a new vet for everyone. So Companion had great reviews and was recommended to us by a friend. First it took over a month to get an appointment. We decided to take them anyway and to take 2 cats for the first appointment together and the next appointment would be 2 cats and our dog. We the first appointment went well but expensive but one of them got blood work and glands expressed. $350.00 for that visit. The next appointment for 2 cats and a dog I ran 12 mins late and they refused to see anyone. Now I understand I was late but they couldnt see any one of them because of 12 mins? Not willing to work with me at all and the lady on the phone was very rude. This place is not worth the effort of writing this but I thought people should know.
Absolutely AMAZING ! Both Dr Rachael and Dr Sam are the best vets we have ever been to. They are caring and compassionate for our pets and all the other staff members are always so friendly and inviting. Anytime there is something going on with either of my pets they are there right away to answer any questions or get us in to be seen. I will always recommend Companion to all my friends and family. Wouldn’t want to take my pets anywhere else.
We really like the care that Companion has given to our dog, even though the necessary operation was a bit pricey. It saved her from a possible infection. The female staff seems to generally care for animals, which is a plus. I would certainly recommend them over Rotterdam Vet. In the case of our little one, she is always frightened of car rides, so the closer, the better. The older male can ride in a car all day long, and not be scared. He loves it. All animals are different.
Dr. Ragozzino is amazing along with her whole staff they care about their patients, and the families who bring their pets to her hospital for care. Her, and her staff are friendly, knowledgeable, trustworthy, and extremely caring. They take great care of my puppy and if you need a vet I would highly consider her!
Never been there before but when my rabbit died, they took him in and let us get him cremated. Other places told us we had to be a patient to have that done, and his doctor was 45 min up north. I appreciate them for doing that for us!
*Updates as of 8/18/2020*I spoke with Megan and received more information. The first issue was on Wednesday. I was informed that because we brought the cats that were meant for Thursday on Wednesday, that caused the delay. I asked why that would cause such a big delay, as either way they were receiving 2 cats for their initial visit, and was told that they had prepared for the first 2, not the 2 we brought but they made it work for us.Fine. Apparently meeting 2 cats is different each day.Now for Thursday.Megan informed me that she wanted to hear my side and let me speak, telling her what happened. She then informed me what happened on her end. She stated to me that she observed my fiancee as being 15 minutes late, not ten. Then she said he would be 20 minutes after he parked and walked the animals in. (Side note, its COVID...NO ONE IS WALKING ANIMALS IN) Fine. You say fifteen, he says 10, it is what it is. We were late. I was also informed that even if we had been on time, he would have been bumped because they had an emergency come in at our time slot.Now how long do you schedule a visit with 3 animals, 2 different species? She made it seem like their vet would have seen our animals in 15 minutes or less. To me, that does not add up. Megan also stated that my fiancee was rude and told her employee to go to hell and hung up. Now, hes not perfect. If you ask any of our family/friends, he also would never say that. I am the one who will call companies, curse them out, yell and scream at the highest manager possible. I let her know that if he did do that it was inappropriate, and I would talk to him later. He confirmed with me that he did not say that.She seemed to blame us for everything, and did not offer a refund, an immediate, reschedule, or any type of resolution. She also informed me that by posting the original review it was defaming their character online. I did up this review from 1 to 2 stars because we absolutely loved the Vet who personally spoke with us, but as for how Companion Animal treats their customers, it is not with a sound conscience that I can recommend them.We recently moved to the area, and transferred our 5 animals into their care. We have 4 cats and 1 dog for the routine Veterinary care, and 2 aquatic turtles who generally dont need the vet. Companion came highly recommended from our close friends who also have multiple pets. When calling we were told that they were scheduling over a month out, which we understand because its COVID time currently. So we get a Wednesday for 2 cats and Thursday for the other 2 and our pupper. Wednesday we show up and wait nearly half an hour to be seen. We brush it off as a hiccup and the actual vet who came out to speak with us was very kind and knowledgeable. They give us our babies back and we let them know about the next day. When they called to receive payment for the 2 cat exams, blood work and a few vaccine boosters for the 1 cat, its pricey, about $350. So we look forward to Thursday, as we are extremely concerned with our pupper and excited for her to meet this great vet. Now unfortunately my partner ran about 10 minutes late, because our other 2 cats are not okay with crates and moving, have anxiety in the car and to get them into their crates it takes an hour. Well, that is apparently too much for this vet. They refused to take any animal at all, and did not offer rescheduling, a reason, or acknowledge that they were late the other day. I called the office and will be speaking to someone on Monday, as they are closed Friday and the weekend, and hopefully this issue can be resolved. However, I will not allow any of my animals to be turned away from them again.TL;DRThey cancelled our appointment and were rude as hell
Wow. This place is so amazing. From day one, they have treated us and our dogs like family. All of the staff are helpful, nice, and you can tell they enjoy where they work. They are always smiling and great with our fur babies. 10/10! I have recommended them to my in-laws and friends in the area. Couldnt ask for a better vet!
Called for a sick visit as a new patient. Got us in within 15 minutes. Took care of our Zuzu and got her feeling so much better. They just earned a new client! Will definitely use them for all our pets!
Dr. Ragozzino is an amazing vet! She has taken care of my pets (both cats & dogs) for the past 6 years. I trust her impeccably! She treats everyone like family! Her establishment is always pristine. Her staff is very welcoming & knowledgeable. I would recommend her to anyone looking for a big town vet with a hometown feel :)
My husband and I were searching for a new vet for our dog and came across Companion Animal Medical Center. They are very close to our house and seem to have wonderful ratings. We got set up for an appointment for an annual exam that I had to wait two weeks for and had to leave work early for. Unfortunately I was going to be late despite leaving work early due to traffic. I was going to be 10 minutes late and was told I would need to reschedule as the doctor doesn’t want to stay past 6 PM. I have never encountered a vet hospital who wasn’t willing to wait 10 minutes.We decided not to reschedule due. Extremely disappointing.
I moved to New York from Pittsburgh Pennsylvania and one of the first things I had to do was find my Weimaraner the best of the best to make sure he was taken care of. Not only physically but when boarding as well. I found a place close to my residence that I was content with but not 100%. Then I was recommended to take Tyco to see Dr. Rachael At Companion Animal Medical Center. It was a further drive but when it comes to your furry companion, we’ll do anything. Right?I made an appointment ahead of time and the staff made a great impression on the phone. They were friendly, polite and informative on all aspects. You know what they say? It’s all about the first impression.The day of our appointment Tyco and I arrived and from the moment you walk into the door, you are immediately engaged with a smile and a warm greeting. I didn’t wait long to see Dr. Rachael and when she came in, I immediately felt comfortable. As did my dog!! BONUS POINTS!! She was fantastic with him!! I must say, Dr. Rachael was the best vet Tyco has ever seen in his 11 years and I am so happy I have made the switch to bring him there. She was priced reasonable, friendly, informative and more importantly SHE CARES!!! That itself is the icing on the cake!!Not long after, I had to board Tyco. They were friendly when I called to check up on him and told me he’s doing great. When I came to pick him up... my buddy had a huge smile on his face, a cute bandana from his bath and he even got a report card to bring home.Hands down!!! Not only the best Veternarian in the upstate area but the best staff!!! I recommend them without a doubt!!! Bravo Companion Animal Medical Center. Keep doing you!!!!
This was our dogs first visit. Within the restrictions of COVID, the staff was great. They were efficient and professional. All of my questions were answered. Cosmo seemed to like them. All in all: recommended.
My dogs have been patients here for several years, so yesterday when my dog started having a seizure my husband rushed her over. he was told that they wouldnt see her because they were closing in an hour but he might want to get her to an emergency vet in case it was something time sensitive. luckily my baby is ok but no thanks to Companion Animal Medical Center. I am beyond disgusted that we were turned away and told to drive a half hour away. Patient or not if its an emergency situation I dont understand how you can just nonchalantly turn people away. I will not ever be coming back I will have my dogs records transferred to a place that actually cares. I will also make sure that everyone I know does not ever visit this place either. Oh and just be warned if you leave a negative review the doctors girlfriend will attack you on social media.
Such a wonderful staff and experience. We found our favorite vet, Dr. Ragozzino! She diagnosed our pups issue and it will be taken care of in less than a week. The staff were great with us and our fur baby. Facility is clean and well staffed. Our big guy was as happy as we are. Other clients were social and friendly in the outer office. Felt like coming home!! I was delighted to see all the positive reviews on Facebook, as well.
Dr. Ragozzino has been my vet for years now and I have never had a bad experience with her. I have followed her with all 5 of my pets to her new place that she has opened. She is very professional and knowledgeable, her staff is excellent as well. They have always been accommodating and go above and beyond to provide exceptional care to all of my animals. The facility is always clean and inviting and you can tell that the whole staff genuinely cares about the animals and their parents. I would highly recommend Dr. Ragozzino and her staff to everyone they are the best around.

Doc R is the only Vet Id take my dog too, shes thorough, knowledgeable and has the best tech. My dog broke his paw and her laser treatment had him up and moving again in less than 2 weeks. Do your pet a favor and take them here. I drive 30 min to her and never once thought it wasnt worth it

My three Golden Girls, Lila, Jazzy and Penny love going to Companion Animal. Dr. Ragozzino and her staff are truly amazing!! They are professional, knowledgeable and friendly. Most importantly my girls love going!!! Dr. R recently performed two surgeries on my girls and they have healed beautifully. We also had an emergency last week and Dr. R got back back to us right away... I cannot say enough good things about Dr R and her staff..They are truly the best hands down! What a pleasant experience from the moment I stepped into their office with my cat. The staff could not have been more welcoming and professional. Dr. Ragozzino was wonderful. She examined the cat with such care and concern and she could see how sick he was. She immediately diagnosed his problem. She prescribed a course of treatment for our cat and explained how to care for him at home. She could see how worried I was. With her treatment, the cat made a full recovery. Her expertise and love for animals was very evident. I highly recommend Dr. Ragozzino to anyone seeking quality care for their pets.
I was born and raised in the capital region (Albany), and have had animals my whole life, bringing them back and forth to the vet, and it never gets easy and isnt cheap. I do have to say for many reasons I choose Companion Animal Medical Center over any other in the capital region due to the care and compassion Dr. Ragozzino and her staff put into making sure my dog received the best care at the most affordable option. I was referred to Dr. Ragozzino by a friend, and before I even met her she gave me possible outcomes, pricing, and what made me most comfortable was she never pushed for me to come to her medical center, she put my dogs health first; this gave me the comfort of ensuring I wouldnt be overcharged and that she was very knowledgable.Other than that, the staff is friendly, the facility is very clean, spacious parking, new building, and you will not be paying for things unless you need them! Highly recommend!
After two trips to Rotterdam Veterinary Hospital and an encounter with a rude tech named Dolores, I finally found an amazing vet. Although I had the wrong day for my appointment she saw my little Frankie and treated his problem. Great experience with very sweet and helpful staff. Thank you for a hassle free experience for me and Frankie!

Ok for regular appointments but abysmal for anything more urgent than a week as you will be told to go elsewhere, even as a patient of several years. Office staff is very rude and unsympathetic. Do not use if you ever expect your pet to get sick.

I have been involved in cat rescue for many years. Dr. Ragozzino is the most compassionate veterinarian I know. She has always gone above and beyond the regular care for any cat Ive brought to her. She treats all her patients as if they are her own personal pet. I highly recommend Dr. Ragozzino and Companion Animal Medical Center.
Had to take my service dog for a leg injury and of course I was panicking... Never been a customer before and needed emergency care... Staff was super friendly and calm... although very busy they fit my dog in for a check up when they didnt have to and had every right to turn me away because I wasnt a regular client... Hi, Id like to share my experience bringing my cat Phebe to this vet for the first time, and last time ever. Phebe (a male cat) was a 6 year old cat who was experiencing some breathing issues, so I instantly tried to find a vet locally that would take him as soon as possible, same day (Thursday). Unfortunately for me and my baby boy companion was the first vet to take him short notice. We went in and I explained everything to the vet, she did xrays, listened to his heart, and took his blood pressure. She told me that his heart sounded fine, and that the shape of his heart through the xrays looked fine, she did mention that his pulmonary artery was enlarged. She sent us home, giving him a prescription (bronchodilator) that wouldnt be ready until the next day (Friday) supposedly, because it had to be made, and I was out $300 for the bills including the meds. Friday came around and the pharmacy called and said it wont be ready until Saturday. So as a concerned mother on Friday I called companion and asked them to ask the vet if phebe will be okay until Saturday without the meds, or if there is something else that I should do, they assured me that hell be just fine (little did I know that they didnt even ask the vet, but asked a tech). Saturday came around, I got his meds and gave them to him and he just got worse. I took him to the emergency vet Saturday where they retook the xrays and instantly diagnosed him with advanced heart failure, and my baby boy had to be put down that night. The emergency vet cost me around $700. I called companion a few weeks later, asking for my money back because they misdiagnosed phebe and reassured me that he would be just fine even though he wouldnt, also to disscuss the misdiagnoses with the vet. Back and forth phone calls just so theyd say that theyd look into it (its been a little over a month maybe) I dont want the refund, they can keep their money. Maybe if they didnt misdiagnose him hed still be here with his family that misses him so much, including his sister. I just want everyone to know Phebes story, and please please never bring your loved pet here. I would never in a million years bring my other cat here, and if you truly care about yours, you wouldnt either.

2022-02-10Have been going here for months and this place has been great with my dog. From the Doctors, to the techs, to the front desk. Always happy, professional, and thorough. Ive also always been impressed by how welcoming the front desk attendants (usually Tanya and Sarah) have been every time Im there or call. Especially with how crazy busy all vet offices are now. Highly recommended!

2022-04-13I became a client here with my senior cat who was diagnosed with inoperable cancer last December, 2021. We were treated by Dr. Rachael and Chloë. My concerns were taken seriously and I was treated with respect. The team is very knowledgeable and caring and handled my girl gently and lovingly. I was made to feel as comfortable as possible during the saddest time with my cat. Dr. Rachael was available for me to call whenever I had a question or anxiety about the end stages of my cat’s life. She made me feel like I mattered in the decision making process. I’ve had many animals over the last 27 years and I’ve experienced veterinarian care with many places here in Schenectady and also in Houston, TX. I can say with certainty that Dr. R , her team and this clinic are an exemplary group to work with as a pet-mom. I feel very grateful for everything that was done for me as my sweet cat 🐈⬛ passed.

2022-01-07You should go somewhere else. Our cat died New Years Eve, we were just looking for a placethat would cremate him and return his remains. Sarah(not sure of the spelling) answered the phoneand said we arent accepting new patients right now and we should go somewhere else. She was very inconsiderate and unsympathetic and ina hurry to get us off the phone. Not even a comment to say they were sorry for our loss. You can make up your own mind folks,but based on our experience you should go somewhere else.

2020-02-17Had another visit at companion this week and as usual, we had a great experience! My wife called them the second our girl started showing symptoms and they got us in the same week. We saw Dr. R but have seen Dr. Sam as well and they are both amazing. We have never met such compassionate, caring, thorough Veterinarians. We followed Dr. R from her previous practice and it was definitely worth the switch! The ENTIRE staff from the front desk, to the techs to the staff that works in the back are awesome. Everyone there welcomes you with a smile and seems to really care for each pet they see. We couldnt be happier with Companion Animal Medical Center! Thank you for always taking such great care of our “Kids!”

2020-10-19I dont have enough good things to say about this clinic. I had recently started going earlier this year because its close and it was convenient to take my older cat to. This was the best change Id ever made the staff is fantastic and the Vets are amazing. Ill be taking my other cat there now too
