Expensive. Bill tripled last month. Asked for clarification and no response yet. Red dit it, very common problem where they make bunch of mistakes on their billing and somehow its our responsibility to chase them down.

When are they going to get this fixed? Its been here for over a year. Now they have even left the manhole cover open. Should be no star.

I cant imagine that the 5* reviews are unsolicited. I just went without gas for 4.5 days because of gross incompetence at this company, and I STILL dont have hot water!!When you need help from them, you have to be available from 7:30am to 11pm because the mechanic can come at any point - they wouldnt give me a window - and they cant make any guarantees. The phone system is designed to make you hang up - regardless of when you call or what you need, youll be on hold almost exactly 15 minutes. Why? Because psychology studies show thats how long it takes non-desperate people to give up and hang up.I spoke to 12 employees in the gas and customer service divisions. They all gave me the same runaround: gas leaks take priority - exactly how many gas leaks yall fielding that nobody in 4 days has time to help other customers? Finally, on day 5, one employee noticed the request was coded incorrectly in their system (true or untrue, I dont care, it shouldnt take 5 days and 12 employees to catch a mistake). When the mechanic came he was able to get the gas back, finally. But somehow the hot water doesnt work, still.Note that he did not call me, as they said he would. He only rang the bell. If I hadnt been home, even if I was in the building but not in my apartment, I would have missed him.Completely outrageous. People have jobs and lives, they cant stay at home for days on end waiting for somebody to maybe show up. Nobody should have to take vacation days from work just to sit at home waiting. The only reason ConEd can conduct business in this manner is because of the monopoly they run in NYC. If consumers actually had options, nobody would choose to be treated like this.

Con Edison says that 2-letter last names are not valid & people with 2-letter last names can’t sign up for utilities, when 2-letter last names are common among the Asian community. To think that a company that’s so terrible with inclusion and customer support can have the industry monopoly in NYC... I’m disgusted.

Consolidated Edison is an investor-owned energy utility company with $13 billion in annual revenues and $36 billion in assets. In 1823, Con Edison’s earliest corporate predecessor, the New York Gas Light Company, was founded by a consortium of New York City investors. In 1884, six gas companies combined into the Consolidated Gas Company. Samuel Leggett, the founder of the New York Gas Light Company, was granted the first franchise to lay underground gas pipes in New York City, and his home was the first house in New York to be lit by gas lights. Leggett was an early Quaker and is buried in the historic graveyard at Friends Meeting House in Flushing, Queens.

Con Edisons headquarters is a beautiful building with Art Deco styling. Front desk staff are helpful and kind.

Alas, there is no choice. You want gas and electric, you use Conned. Lousy service on an unreliable network at some of the highest prices in the USA.
