There really shouldnt be any stars because this experience has been the worst! I applied online and the website said I was going to get a call to schedule an appointment when I didnt get a call I had to do another search to figure out how to actually set up an appointment. I found the information somewhere that wasnt even the main website and picked a date, I got an appointment date almost 3 months out which was too far out for me so I decided to go in without an appointment. I went there Feb 15 paid the inconvenience fee which wasnt a problem since It was my decision to not wait, I was told it would take 12 weeks which was just a confirmation since all the signs they had on their walls said it would take 12 weeks. My passport should have arrived May 10th, today is July 29th and I still dont have my passport. This is really shameful!
Hmm🤔. Going in there I had an appointment of 10am, same with my wife, I knew immediately that all of us in that place would have the same time. Fast forward they attended to us 1:30pm.The only reason Im giving 3 stars is that the people that attended to us were very polite. I love the building from the outside - glass building, but on getting inside the building (past the security) will set you back 10 years. I truly believe this building has not been renovated for years. Finally, hopefully I will get the passport in 3months as told.So the main documents you need for Passport Renewal1. Acknowledgement Slip2. Passport Payment Slip3. Copy of Passport Data Page.4. USPS Priority Envelope - You can buy that across the embassy - $134. Another payment on 2nd floor: $30 - No Cash (Card or Money Order). I have no idea why you need to pay this...UPDATE: We got our passport today 08APR22. It took 4 months, and the reason is that, it was sent from Nigeria. So have it in mind for 4-5months to get your passport.
It was a nice place ,there was a lady that was assisting people there so their appointments go smoothly, they are up grading gradually, I hope I pray my passport is here anytime soon, went for appointment in March and still havent received my passport, tracking it has been useless, no one to call even,my anxiety is skyrocketing
This place has a lot of issues. The elevators take at least 5 minutes to arrive and thats if they are working and there are no stairs to take so youre stuck waiting. When you do manage to make it to the 2nd floor for initial processing, they leave you in the waiting room for hours without even calling a number while they take extended breaks of at least 2 hours. The good news though is as long as you are able to acquire a number before the lines are closed at 1, you can be sure to complete the process that day
I had a great experience today .I went to renew passport for myself and my 3 children .I had applied online and also made an appointment.I got there at 8.30am ,they put us in a room and as soon as it was 9am we were asked to go to the 2nd floor where all our papers were checked and we paid the administrative fee.We then had to wait till we were called to the 8th floor where pictures and fingerprints were taken.I was out before 11am . This was not a perfect situation but a great improvement from previous years .People were polite and everyone followed the procedure .Overall a pleasant experience.Thank you to all who attended to me today
The Operator which is a lady. You try speak to her to ask one question. Than she ask me am I the one that keeps on calling like uh yeah. You can hear her eating food chewing in my ear, and than the call goes Silence. Not a hold on or anything. Lord I pray I will be luck tomorrow and call again.
I don’t know what type of business you’re doing, I didn’t receive the visa. Mr. Flowers I supposed to receive my visa July 6,2001 as of January 2022, I requested a refund and was told I unfortunately the Nigerian embassy doesn’t refund. This has cause me my airline ticket and money such an inconvenience. Travel documents system refunded me but owe me other fees which wasn’t refunded. Steve Vice Manger at TDS agreed to a full refund, but unfortunately NY Nigerian embassy don’t give refund. Why did you take my money and didn’t provide me with the sticker. This fits the profile of scam . I want my refund please or maybe the BBB can assist me better, because this is ridiculous.
Sadly, not the best Consulate I have ever visited. They made a mistake in my Visa and denied accountability - said it was my fault (even though it was theirs and I have receipts). They suggested that I apply again, by paying them afresh, which would have resulted in the same problem - given that it was an error in their software. It was a chaotic experience, lots of their citizens were complaining about passport renewal. The staff were more or less helpful.
I applied for my daughter in February and picked a date online for May 6th 2021. We got there past 10am. Got in, paid the $30 Administrative charges and submitted all required documents, including a Prepaid self-addressed return envelope. We were done in about 2 hours. I recieved the Passport today, June 18th 2021, exactly 6 weeks after, as promised. So Im pretty impressed.Something they can do better is take those with appointments first, before taking walk-ins.
How did they get the rate of 2.4 in the first instance? The embassy needs to stop exploitation and do the right thing when it is needed. I had my passport done with them in Chicago, before we were able to do it was a fight. it is over four months after all we paid we have not received our passport. I heard some people are picking up theirs in someones house. many are not there yet. HOW LONG ARE WE GOING TO CONTINUE TREATING OURSELVES LIKE ANIMALS
I must admit I was shocked at the service provided here. Its a great improvement from the usual service typically provided at any Nigerian parastatal. The passport renewal process was more organized and better executed than Id anticipated. I was in and out within an hour, thats quite laudable for a Nigerian organization service provider. Waiting to see how long it will take to get the passport...fingers crossed!
Not as bad as I thought the experience would be. Hubby and I went to renew our passports. After he had secured our place in line (he went there about 6am and I joined him at past 9), the waiting took us almost another hour 30 minutes, but once we went into the passport office we were out in less than 15. They certainly need to improve on the waiting times and all, that aside as long as you follow the procedure on the website you shouldnt encounter any problems.
Its okay. I was expecting some stress. But I received none. I came in for passport renewal without an appointment and had not even gone to the website too.One of the staff directed me on where and how to get everything done.I had all the biometrics done same day without appointment.I guess that walk-ins are now allowed, for a small fee. All documented. I think its the inconvenience fee or something.I did not have to get there at 6am too!I got there past 10am. Left for the closest FedEx office not far from there, to apply online and get all necessaries printed out. Went back to the Embassy and was out of the building before 3pm.Kudos Naija Embassy, NY!!!
Been there 3times this year and was asking why people are writing all these negative comments. The guys at the front desk are very professional and friendly, in fact I was treated nicely. They are doing wonderful job here just follow the processes and the instructions, get all the requirements and humble yourself and speak to them how you want others to talk to you. They are professionals and deserves respect to, I love my country Nigeria and am proud to be called a Nigerian.
The customer service wasnt bad at all. I was done within 3 hours. Those with appointment were attended to first. Be sure to have all required documents with you. Photograph will be taken at the location. Have $30 application processing fee on hand, cash or card.I was told the process with take 6 weeks to get my passport in mail. Go with a self address Express Envelope. Unfortunately they hardly answer phone calls so you may have to go there in person.
Mostly comprised of unprofessional group of staff. Did my biometrics since July 9 2021 and I have not received my passport up till now. I was told it takes 8 weeks to process. God! That not being enough, they hardly answer their calls and even when they do, its like they are rendering a favor unto you. can someone get a hold of someone to get my passport mailed to me urgently as I need to urgently make a trip back home to bury my mother. This is a cry for help!!!!!!!!!
I am so excited I got my passport today . I was told 6 weeks which was yesterday but I was worried and wanted to come and ask questions about my 1 year old daughter who never had a Nigerian passport and myself who does not have an American passport just incase of my return back into the U.S. I wanted to do the ETC only to get here and a good Samaritan ( God bless her) took me in to the office where my passport was about to be mailed out. Am so greatful. Lets keep the good work. Guys have your documents ready
Please don’t listen to what people are saying about the New York embassy . A woman at the door greeted me and ask for my documents ,one of my documents needed a photo copy she directed where to go and photo copy it. My bag was scanned in the men at the front desk told me to go 2nd floor, at 2nd floor a man took my documents check them every thing was correct. I paid $30 he gave me a receipt and number to go and wait for my number to called at 8th floor 30min later my number was called. It took 5mins every thing was good. I am happy heading back to my state on same day 09/17/202.
I am currently sitting in the waiting area waiting for my turn to capture. I came in around 11am and I’m 61 on the line for capture. I’m Pleasantly surprised at how smooth it been so far. Once you have all the necessary documents ( assuming you did your application and payment on line), you only need to present the: Passport acknowledgement slip, payment slip, copy of your passport bio-data page, self-addressed Usps (priority ) envelope. You also need your passport, but they are yet to request that from me. I came without an Appointment, which means I had to pay $130 dollars to be attended to today. While waiting, pay attention to the digital clock/info board above the door. It tells you what numbers could go up to the 8th floor for processing. It takes approximately 25mins for 10 people to be called to go upstairs.61-70 were called up and I went, less that 5 mins later, I was called into another room, asked for my old passport and later photographed and thumb printed. After than, I signed out in a log book and was done by 12:52pmAdditional Information:There’s a Post office 2 blocks from here. You may also be able to make copies of the bio-data page there, otherwise,There is a FedEx office at the corner of the post office and you can print or make copies there.Update:11 weeks later and no passport yet.I got the passport finally! Almost 12 weeks processing time.*** For your Family Portraits, please google Chiek Photography, make an appointment and we’ll come to you!
This was the worse ever experienced in a so-called government agency. The way they treat the people trying to get their passports was extremely disrespectful and demeaning. The security staff lack professionalism and respect for others. There was a lack of communication amongst the staff and the people they were supposed to be serving. The most unbelievable thing was the payment they told us we had to pay online. They stated that they did not received it and we had to make another payment with a different card again online, when the first payment that was made already left my account. “Can someone say FRAUD!!!” How is this possible. It is such a shame and disgrace that they would treat and do their own people such a disservice. They can keep their freaking passport. Such a despicable act!
Disappointing. Chaotic. Most of the staff are nice enough but the experience could be streamlined better. The exception is the tall lanky guy who takes the photos and fingerprints, he is obviously no longer interested in serving his country abroad and should be sent back to Nigeria ASAP. He gave no instructions and expected me to read his mind. He left me sitting there and walked off when we were done. Really the worst. Getting fingerprinted and having the photo taken ( the important part of the visit) actually takes no more than 15 minutes but it is such a process. I suspect there is no interest in any steps to improve the process or experience.
Please note that you dont need to know anyone there to get things done. They are free and fair over there unlike hiw we use to do things back in naija.A man will be out there patiently ensuring that you have all the required documents which are just 3, before you can get into the building.Apply on the Nigerian immigration website and pay 136$ there. Also, youre going to pay 130 at the consulate if you dont have an appointment. But before you go, make a copy of your acknowledgment page, your current passport and a self addressed return envelope with stamp for them to Mail your new passport to you. The consulate address is in the picture attached to this review. Best bet is to go buy it from the sop with the yellow awning by the consulate. Also, they open by 9am and it is now less stressful unlike before. Just that they have alot of backlog, hence the need for the return envelope. So dont expect to return with a new passport as it will be mailed to you within 10 weeks. Hope this helps?
The Nigerian embassy in New York is a complete JOKE . I have been there trying to renew my passports twice yet to no avail . You will call their line for hours no one ever picks up.We understand that there is a pandemic but still, communicate and let people know if your open or not . Respond to the phone and respond to emails .Today was just the absolute worst , they has people . Elderly people wasting outside in this crazy New York cold since 8am . Lots of people standing outside the embassy and they refused to attend to anyone or even let us know the procedure / new methods people can go about renewing visas and passports .The level of professionalism is mediocre . Pls do better, communicate with your citizens doYour freaking jobs answer the phones . If it’s to collect the money for renewal there will be available for that one .
Unexpected additional charges after payment online and not giving details of what I need to get done once, the lady kept sending me out back and forth and I have my 3 years old child with me so frustrated. I have been there since morning I left at 4pm with so much pain on me and my child.
Pleasantly surprised. I needed to get a travel certificate. It said on the consulate website that the documents should be mailed with a self addressed. Not knowing whether the documents will be returned to me on time to make my trip, I chose to drive down to New York. At the entrance to the building, I met two nice guys. One took my documents and within half an hour, I had my travel certificate. It was a good day. Kudos to the consulate.
The worst. Nonchalant, Very rude, Mediocre, zero communication. They dont answer calls or respond to emails. Totally horrible! I wish there were other ways to renew our passport without having to deal with them. I wasted over 300usd on uber to go there from NJ and I wasnt attended to. I expected the Nigerian consulate in the US to be better but they are actually worse
The most useless people I have ever met work there. They do not take their jobs seriously and have the patrons suffering out in the cold, while they let only people they know inside. I see Nigeria has not left corruption behind, but instead has brought it here to the states. I do not recommend the facility. Make sure you have nothing to do that day because you will spend your whole day here. Even with an appointment!
I applied online to renew my passport, but didnt get an interview date, I was told to contact the office to schedule an interview. I called there multiple times, no-one answered. I decided to go down to the office in New York. When I got there, I was told to write my name, number and reference number down and someone would give me a call back between 11 and 2pm the same day. I didnt receive any phone call and still yet to receive an interview date.
This is by far the worst office I have ever visited for any reason. Extremely unprofessional, none of their systems work. They even asked me to make my own copies and buy my own envelopes.Everyone tells you different information and there is no accountability and no one in charge. They just send you in circles and only tend to people they know or are willing to pay off employees. This experience was honestly appalling. If you know other locations in other cities/states I would consider taking a trip their just for the peace of mind. After all the money I spent to renew my passport with these people I am still unclear on when or even if I will receive my new passport.
I am highly impressed with the service rendered at the Nigerian embassy all the staff are so nice and welcoming. Oga AUWALU God bless you. I filled out my form on may 23rd called the embassy and in less than 2 minutes my call was answered a link was sent to my email to pick an interview date which I did and on June 2ND I had my interview. To those of you comparing Nigerian passport process to that of U.S pls get your facts right. call the post office and ask them how long it will take to get a U.S passport the closest date you will get will be 6 months. Nigeria Embassy will mail it to you in 6-7 weeks. learn to appreciate your own.. God bless Nigeria.NOTE THERE IS A 30 DOLLAR PAYMENT AT THE EMBASSY NO CASH ONLY DEBIT OR CREDIT CARD AND MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A SELF ADDRESSED ENVELOPE WITH YOU.UPDATE.. So yesterday 07/30/21 I received my Passport in My mailbox Thank You Nigerian embassy NY good job.
I called the Nigerian Embassy today just get general information about Visas & Passport was treated very rudely by the British switchboard operator/woman. I asked very kindly would there be a Visa needed to enter Nigeria as well a few other questions that I needed to know & she started to become frustrated as if she wanted to curse me out if she could. I remained polite to her so I could receive my information that I needed for Nigeria. The phone was slammed down in my face after asking about yellow fever shots information that was so unprofessional since the operator was speaking to someone disabled. Smh! These Embassies both New York & Washington, D.C. are very, very unorganized I wonder if its to discourage people from traveling to Nigeria? If you call European Embassies you will definitely get the utmost professionalism as well as kindness. The British switchboard operator stated that the reason for the difficulty with Nigeria when I asked about the Visas she stated this is the way it is with most of the Third World Countries! SMDH!!! I would not want some like that handling my personal information & with someone like her working in the NYC, Nigerian Embassy that has her attitude thats why most of the filings & application are unorganized. That woman & anyone else in the NYC, Nigerian Embassy with her attitude needs to be terminated ASAP!
The consular only opens Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays except for public holidays. The appointment scheduling on the website has been reopened. I’m writing this for people residing far away so they don’t waste time going on closed days. Also, they seem strict with the appointment date but the doormen seem like they’re ready to let anyone in with a little fee on the side (sounds familiar eh?!). A new $30 administrative fee has been introduced only payable via money or bank order, so be sure to get that ready before going. Now, my prayers are with us all as I was turned away also. Be sure to be of adequate strength and vigor before coming here as you might spend the whole day!
This was the worst experience I have ever had in my life. There is no word to describe it. I was so embarrassed to be there as a Nigerian. To start, we were all made to huddle outside with no regards to social distancing. There was no type of structure or organization. To top it all, one of the staff was in physical fight with a customer. It was unbelievable. I had to leave as quickly as I could.
Dont waste your time with this location. If I could give them zero stars, thats what Id give them. They just collect your money online and theres absolutely no communication. Wasted my time going here and they started their nepotism, only letting in people they knew. After waiting for over an hour, they said theyre still closed due to COVID-19 and not rendering services anymore. They were so rude and unprofessional. Ultimately I stood out in the cold for 4 hours, waiting to see if theyll have the decency to attend to me, given that there were less than 20 people waiting. Nope. Eventually, they called the police to make us leave. Im contacting my bank to get a refund. These people have no regard for humans and their time.
Improved , but why cant we do everything online. We picked up USA style of Government stretched it and messed it up and now in limbo. I like the Fulani but he cant practice democracy. Why? Why cant we imitate our host USA on speed, accuracy and efficacy when it comes to simple money making activity such as passport management?. Technology and Democracy when?.
The two staff at the front desk are so courteous & professional. Just explain yourself to them in a polite & respectful way & leave the rest to God. A very neat & organized environment. Before coming here, I went through the reviews & it wasn’t encouraging for me at all. A lady dropped a positive message on how she got her passport & I was moved to give it a trial. I came with a positive spirit from Dallas, TX. If you want to come here, make sure you arrive early. I got to this office around 8am & was among the first set to attend to. Bring everything you’re asked to bring. They may even return some back to you e.g the two passport photos but it’s advisable to come with them. The capturing & fingerprinting didn’t take up to five minutes. It’s not impossible to get your passport same day. I’m so happy all my efforts were not in vain. KUDOS!
I had a surprisingly good experience here. just take all the documents specified on the website PLUS data page of your passport and you should be good. carry cash in case you need to make photocopy. I was probably in and out in 1.5 to 2 hrs. still waiting for the passport (past the due date) so four stars.*UPDATE: google alerted me that this review was getting a lot of views so I thought it was only fair to update. My passport was delivered to my mail about a week or 2 after the due date. So overall, for me, this embassy was great for processing and delivering my passport.good luck.
First of all, I want to commend the staff at Nigeria House who processed passports for myself and my family. The process was fast, efficient, and the staff were very courteous. I was also impressed that they all kept their composure despite working in such awful conditions. The central air conditioner stopped working recently and is yet to be fixed. This was August in New York, so you can imagine how HOT it was in there! Yet, there were no complaints from them. They just did their job and with a smile! If you follow the instructions correctly regarding making payments, and completing the forms, then you should have no problems. We were in and out in 20 minutes because we followed all the instructions and had our documents neatly organized for processing. We came back around 3pm and our passports were ready. I know we like to bash and rag on our country, but I also thought it was important to recognize the staff at the passport office for a job well done! God bless them for keeping their cool even under such awful working conditions. Finally, that location is prime real estate in New York City if not America - right next to the UN, yet the inside of the building is embarrassing and poorly maintained. I hope they fix the air conditioning system soon. But GOOD JOB OVERALL!!
I have been waiting for over a month to get visitor’s visas for my family. The response I keep getting is that they are out of materials. Now my trip and wedding introduction have to be postponed or cancelled due to their delay. I have even taken time off work which now I will have to readjust due the inconvenience.
Do not, I repeat, DO NOT get your passport from the NYC consulate. These people are highly incompetent and incapable of performing even the simplest task in a timely manner. They also have terrible book keeping. 4 months after I paid for my passport they claim there was no record of payment despite me providing receipts and confirming with the company that handles their online payments that the money was transferred to their account. If you plan on traveling in the next 6 months you are better of going to DC
I went with my 9 year old daughter and my cousin this week. I must say it was a much better experience than when I went in 2017 with my now 11 year old. They ground floor now has actual ample seating, in 2017 we had to sit on the floor. We arrived at ~10am and we were out by 1:30pm, which for us was critical as we took the train up from Philadelphia. If their website was up to date on their requirements, I would have given them a 5-star rating. If you’re going note that you also need the following documents - a copy of your old passport data page, a stamped envelope, so they can mail back your passport (I used priority mail), each family member needs the payment slip attached to their application - since I paid for my daughter I only had one payment slip which meant I had to go to the Indian shop round the corner to print out a second one, that cost me $5.The Indian shop round the corner is definitely making loads of money off the embassy and their inability to update their website. Finally, for parents with young kids, note that you are not allowed to bring in snacks, this was definitely an issue for us as I had packed snacks like I was expecting a sit-in 😂, this was a strictly enforced rule.Overall, a decent experience, I am an Ibadan girl through and through and was ready to rough it, glad to say I didn’t need to, if they keep this up, you simply need to pack the right documents and your patience. I hope our passport arrives within the month as they indicated.
I arrived with my family at about 9am. The line was short and we joined; social distancing. When the doors were opened at about 10am, you could see the lack of Coordination amongst ground staff. They were giving conflicting instructions and the once orderly line scattered, with everyone try to get attention. There was no more social distancing as Who Know Man prevailed. Some of us expressed our displeasure. The consulate staff could easily have walked the already created line and address clients/visitors as the pass by each.Sanity was restored after about 20 minutes and many people just had to drop the applications for passport renewal. Couldnt the staff have done better earlier by walking the lines?
My husband needed a new passport desperately in order to travel home quickly after the death of his father. He was treated with compassion and understanding and received his passport straightaway. Not only that, the staff there would not accept extra payment for the swift service which is incredible considering Nigeria is nearly synonymous for bribes and corruption. We really appreciate how they treated him in our time of crisis. Thank you oooI have not given five stars because of all the problems the others speak of that did still affected us: not answering phones, the bathrooms being extremely unhygienic, overall lack of organization.
I have been to this embassy in the past and I liked the service. This year I decided to go back because I was planning a Nigerian trip and I wanted to take my new born baby and also to change my name from maiden to married. I applied online and appeared in person a month before the travel schedule. I did everything and I was giving a date to come and pick it up and because we live so far away, I left a self address envelope for the passports to be sent to me. 2 weeks after we applied I started calling the embassy to see if the passport is ready . 1, disappointment ? No one picks up the phone , they have a number one can text no reply when you text the number . I waited till after the date I was giving which was 6 weeks after the I applied as passport still did not arrive. When I got there the security officer appeared to be mad at the world. I was told “your date was 5 days ago and you came now you will need to wait till 3p”, I was not even giving the opportunity to express myself I was just told in a condescending manner to wait outside, as I was walking out a man in a native white attire asked if I needed help , he was once again interrupted by the security officer and the man politely walked away. I stood outside till around 1:30, A young man I recognized from the last time I came. Walked out perhaps for a break, I asked if He could help me as my bus leave NYC at 2:30 with a 30 minute walk to the port authority, he asked to see my bus ticket and I showed it to him. He was very proffesional , compassionate and ready to assist. He went to check on the passport whileI waited downstairs. He called the security officer back not a minute later to let me know that he has my baby passport but he was not able to locate mine. He gave me my baby passport and Encouraged me wait and talk to the person in charge. The pick up time was 2p, the workers at the window were talking laughing, nonchalant about the people in line, at this point it 2:15 , and no was attending to us. I knocked on the window and indicated I have a question, the man in the window rudely shouted “ you are not allowed to ask any questions till we are good and ready to answer you. They behave like God, even though I showed up 5 days after the date I was given my passport was not ready to be picked up. I had to cancel my plane ticket and I was not able to be refunded. You are probably wondering why I am giving 2 stars for the review when they were so cruel to me. The 2 stars is for the guys that was human enough to assist me when I approached him on his break. Nigerian embassy in NYC , Washington are disappointing, disrespectful. You don’t have to treat Nigerian citizens or anyone like Garbage. A little niceness and respect goes a long way. I received my passport in the mail yesterday 7/1/18. I hope someone read this review and make a change in the embassy.
Service delivery at this High commission is virtually non existent. I applied for a passport in January of 2020, as of today, August 10th I am yet to receive the passport renewal and there is no word on when if ever the passport will be ready.I understand that the staff actually show up at the embassy. I am also aware that the immigration offices in Lagos and Abuja are open that the passport booklets are printed in Nigeria, so the actual passport can be printed in Nigeria, sent to the embassy and then mailed to the owners in the US with the stamped envelopes we provided at the time of application. For those who require renewals, passports can be mailed in, renewed and sent back to the owners. There is no need to wait for a year until people can travel to the embassy to renew their passports. Every other country is making adjustments to how they renew official documents like drivers licenses. Nigerians just love to make life hard for the citizens
I have never been disrespected so much in my life. I traveled 3 hours, waited for another 3 hours, only to be told my passport was not ready. Then I got screamed at because asked when my passport will be ready. The worker literally screamed in my face. I finally got someone who promised to mail me my passport if I brought a pre-paid envelope. I went and bought the envelope. This was on September 20 2017. It is currently January 2, 2018. I am still waiting for my passport. I have tried to call, and their voice mailbox is forever full.
I was at the embassy/consulate last Wednesday to collect a LIFE CERTIFICATE .I was attended to by this awesome personality called Amachree, a lawyer. She was not only beautiful, but friendly, polite, and professional inspite of us all crowding around her to get her attention. She collected my details and informed me that she will hand it over to the person in charge. Not only did she keep her promise, she also called to let me know she did and my case was receiving attention.Though I still waited for 2hours before I collected the letter, I appreciate her dedication and professional approach.
It’s almost 2 years now since I applied for my passport renewal. Still haven’t received it. I was told I would get it a month later, have called countless numbers and emailed but instead of help I have received accusations that I am lying about a slip I was never handed.... slip or no slip, there is no excuse as to why I still haven’t received my passports. I flew to NY specifically for this. Please someone read this and help me out.
I applied to renew my passport at this location in Q4 2019. I was given an appointment date in June 2020. COVID-19 lock-downs hit early 2020. Till today I havent heard anything from these jokers despite paying the required renewal fee. No notice informing me of embassy closure or rescheduling me for a new date. This place is a complete joke. I cant say im surprised though. #thisisnigeria
After my passport data wasn’t coming up, Mr Chris intervened and I got it. He keeps to his word and tries his extreme best to help. Many people who I do not know their names also tried to help. P.s the lady at the reception is extremely nice. Just happy I don’t have to leave a bad review. If you are nice, patient and polite you’d get help at no extra cost.
Well I was surprised at the reception I got the day I visited with my husband in September, We had fears in our minds reading all the comments here.So here is it; people go in with negative vibes from reading the negative comments here and attack the people working there with rude comments. We have to learn to respect people especially our own people.Everything went smoothly, I got my passport last week and I was supposed to get it in November even though I changed my name. We are yet to receive my husband’s passport but we are grateful and hopeful Still, will call them because it supposed to have been sent since on the 4th of this month.NB: Kudos to the secretary at the front door; I can’t remember her name again. She is very good at what she does. Well done sis.
COVID 19 Update. This embassy is closed, see picture below. I called the other embassies (Atlanta & DC) and after receiving no answer, I called another company in Atlanta who told me all 3 embassies are closed until further notice. You might notice the NYC website and the flyer below tells you to send an email or call a particular number for urgent or emergency passport/visa service. FALSE. I sent an email in MAY and till now, August, no response. I called the number and it’s the same automated message over and over. You have a better chance at winning the lottery than expecting anyone to pick up the phone. I also heard they are giving people appointments for next year. So good luck if you need something this year! Smh
If I could give a negative score I would. Please, do not go to this embassy. It is the worst place Ive ever been and they treat the people in a very inhumane manner.I have been here since 11 outside in 30 degrees temperatures and they refuse assist. Even though they collected my money for a visa.No one answers the phones, its just rerouted to a voice message. They are horrible! Do not waste your time or money!
Applied and paid for my passport renewal august 1st. Called nonstop fot 3 weeks after that because I did not hear from the embassy about an interview date. Barged in August 27th with no appointment. Was tired of it, was ready to go pretty much tell them a piece of my mind and get my interview by force. So went to NYC from Massachusetts with my mom. Expect to be there the whole day. Around 3pm is when we were interviewed and everything was done. Went across to FedEx, paid next day priority mail which was $46 and gave it to the consulate to send my passport to my address. Was told to expect the passport after a few days until the end of September. Of course throughout that time, Im calling for an update and of course no one picks up. I even had my aunt go to consulate for me as she lives in New York. She told me that the passport was not ready yet after one whole month. Its October 3rd, still no passport.
Dont ever think getting police report for lost passport here is more easier!! Its just a waste of time and money its better you walk to a police station and report yourself. They just take your money and give a letter to go police station of their choice not considering your location
Today June 7 makes it a year of renewing my Nigeria passport. After spending 120 for the renewal fee, calling countless time without them picking it. Traveling to New York on three different situations when have spent about a thousand dollars and couldn’t get it due for one issue to another which is due to the incapability and non working attitude. I know a friend who did her renewal in February and got it in March. But am grateful I got it today. I thank them though cause I don’t have to travel to new York again for that
I had the worst experience ever! Applied for my passport to be renewed, unfortunately the company that is in charge of their IT are obvious frauds! I spent over &500 applying for one passport renewal! The unfortunate incident went on for months. The Nigerian man in charge of the so called IT is so rude and acts like he is doing you a grate favor! Collected my money order several times, I have stubs to prove it, but he said the application isn’t going through! They still do man know man there and you would hope being in the United States will make them act properly! My advice to people is, try getting your passport renewed somewhere else!!!!
The team from this embassy came to Minnesota on May 24th, 2019 to complete the last step ( biometrics ) of passport reissue. Of course money was paid for online application, in addition to payment of $100 to embassy staff and $ 50 to the organizers of the event. Today is September 18, 2019 (4 months later ), we do not have the passports and we are unable to contact anybody at the embassy about status of the reissue. There is no communication whatsoever. The phone number is bogus, nobody picks it up. It is such a shame that Nigerian embassy staff would treat other Nigerians so shabbily.
Went to collect passport on behalf of someone. The reviews here were very mixed and did not know what to expect, but was blown away with the friendliness and helpful attitude of the staff there. Was pointed without any wait, right away to the lady who could help (believe it was Sandra). She and another gentleman quickly looked into my issue, and promptly helped by searching and locating the paperwork and after due diligence, had me on my way. Very impressed and thank you!
Here are the steps for passport renewal:Pay online according to the instructions.Make sure to pay with a card that is in YOUR NAMEIgnore the date that it gives you. You can arrive at the consulate on any day now.Make sure to arrive early on the day you are going (before 8 am) and bring all the required documents and passport photos.Do this all well before you need your passport as it can take months to receive it!Hope this helps someone(Also you can’t bring food or drinks inside so eat a big breakfast before going)
The turn around time is extremely too long for passport application, beside waiting for your passport to be mailed takes longer than 6 weeks is just ridiculous. I BELIEVED WE ARE THE GOVERNMENT, AND EVERY CHANGE BEGINS WITH EVERY NIGERIAN DOING THEIR BEST SERVICE REGARDLESS OF HOW MESSED UP OUR BROKEN SYSTEM IS!!!
My experience here was worse than COVID-19 illness, employees are not helpful, the only reason they are there is to make your life miserable, services at not on a first come first serve basis, it’s about who you know upstairs, employees are always on the phone taking calls from other employees and asking them to allow people who just got out of their beds in, while you who left you bed 4am will be on the line wait endlessly, New York government needs to double down on this people for poor services and COVID enforcement on lines, there’s an embassy just down the street with no line or anyone around, these employees exported their corrupt behavior here, it’s sad, but everyone keeps blaming Buhari, but no ones taking responsibility for their own corrupt practices in the offices they work, God will judge you people!!! I stood on the line for 11hrs,
This place is a joke! One front desk worker was unprofessional and rude. I know they are trying to do their job, but they couldve been at least professional about it. The wait time is too long, you might as well have nothing to do all day if your willing to stay in the reception room which is usually crowded. You have to get up bright and early to come or your destined to stay here for hours. Overall my experience was a mess and if youre coming here I hope your experience will be better than mine.
DO NOT MAIL YOUR APPLICATIONS you will not be processed in a timely fashion. If you can go in person or send family, it is better. They are RUDE and UNPROFESSIONAL, work somewhat as 419 in that they will receive your money and expediting payment and do absolutely nothing. THEY DO NOT ANSWER CALLS OR EMAILS, and if they do, they give some rude excuse. They claimed to be out of visas the few times I managed to speak to someone and were waiting for a new shipment from Nigeria. I waited weeks and in desperation with only 3 days before my flight, I had my brother in New Jersey drive to their New York Office with copies of my application and proof of all my payments. He arrived when they opened and they rudely told him to wait until 2 to be helped. He endured their mistreatment which proved that the people working there are not just rude over the phone but also in person. My application was sought for and had been untouched. They processed it right in front of him with no mention or indication that they had been out of visas. If not for him, I would be missing my flight. THINGS NEED TO CHANGE. TERRIBLE SERVICE. THEY NEED TO REPRESENT NIGERIA BETTER THAN THIS.
I wish that I could give this consulate zero stars. The absolute worst experience I have had in customer service. I applied for a visa over two months ago and didnt hear back. I have called, sent emails, sent physical mail and no responses for weeks. Finally got a hold of someone who promised to send me my visa. Talked to her on the phone every day for weeks, and did not receive it. I feel scammed out of the hundreds of dollars I spent on the application and overnight envelopes they requested. Im supposed to leave for Nigeria tomorrow. An absolute abomination of an establishment. Please do not go here
The nice lady that processes passport, even though see had a week to do it, finished all of our passports that day so that many of us wouldnt have to come back. A wonderful lady, and the staff were helpful, through, quick, and friendly. I would suggest going early in the morning if you wish to have a smooth experience. It may take sometime for pickups, so you should plan to spend most of your day in the area.
First of all, I want to say thank you for mailing my passport(especially to Mike, the person that captured me, I’m sure he saw to it....)I don’t usually give reviews but I’m making this based on the saying by my people “e to dike na nke omere, ya eme ozo. So I’m giving them 4 stars. I went for capture in Jan, and was told it’d be ready in Feb, I received it 2days ago. That said, I think they NEED improvement on the wait time. I had 1pm appointment, there was no reason whatsoever for me to wait 3-4hours before getting captured. It took less than 15mins to get captured, so if each worker captures 4 people in 1hr, in 8 hours he must have captured 30(-+) 2(including bathroom/lunch breaks) And based on these numbers, appointment should be set so workers are Not overwhelmed and attendees are not forced to waste good hours. I guess we hate math/stat as Nigerians....And there is no reason to have walk-in persons disrupt this arrangement until everyone who has appointment is seen.In other words they need to be more strategically Organized! We are in America for Christ sake.Thanks.
Since this pandemic hit, its given the staff an excuse to disappear off the face of the earth. The office is open, there are people inside but you cant reach anyone through email or phone. This is the time when people should be working harder, but no...not the Nigerian Consulate. And to think the website has not be updated since 2012!How is that even possible? People are just sitting around collecting money? How can a consulate not update its website for 8 years?! Everyone needs to be fired and replaced. Its unacceptable and an embarrassment.
I had a smooth process for my passport renewal. I arrived on Tuesday, 09/11/18 at around 10:35 AM, went through the security checkpoint, and submitted my documents at the front desk. I got called for biometrics at around 12:10 PM (took my picture and fingerprints) and walked out the door about 12:30 PM.I paid for the 3-7 day expedited processing. I picked up my passport the next Tuesday, 09/18/18. On the pickup day, I arrived at 2:20 PM and had to sit and wait a while before going upstairs to the 8th floor. When I got upstairs, I waited on a short line, was given my passport, signed the book and was done by 3:18 PM. Everything went smoothly for me and the staff was courteous, efficient and knowledgeable both times I went there. Before my 09/11/18 visit, I called to reschedule my initial appointment date (which was all the way in November) to one more convenient for me (which was then changed to the 09/11 date). They truly have difficulty picking up the phone (being nice here lol). But when I am determined about something, I am relentless. I called about 50 times in the span of 30 minutes (no exaggeration here) until someone finally answered the phone and helped me reschedule my appointment. I was fully prepared to disturb their lives that day with endless calls until someone picked up the phone. Moral of the story, be relentless and determined! My advice, is to do a lot of research before you go to the embassy. I saw conflicting information in several places online, so I took all the documents that they could possibly ask for. It’s better to be safe than sorry. They ended up not needing those extra documents that I brought, and they didn’t need the $30 money order or the two passport photos.Overall advice: be respectful and come prepared (with everything that they could possibly ask for), say a quick prayer for grace and favor to your God (I did this lol) and everything should go smoothly.
Paid for my renewal online since May 2019, sept 2019 went in for my appointment and the process took about 2 hours.I dropped my envelope which was addressed after the process but had to talk to one Mr Chris(supervisor) but didn’t have to pay any extra and got my passport in 2days in my mail boxThe lady( Security) at the entrance was not very friendlyMy experience was great overall thoughThank u
Compared to the Atlanta Embassy, I found the staff here to be amicable and customer-oriented. However, they are quite slow in attending to passport applicants and have not yet figured out how to expedite passport applications once you pay for it. I paid for the same day passport with a money order of $150 but my passport was not ready until the next day. Two-day expedite service cost $100 but they refused to refund me the additional $50. This is really unprofessional and was a big blight on my experience. So dont bother using the same day passport services as it is a waste of money. Still I would like to commend Mr Humphrey, Mr Nasiru and several other staff members who showed care and concern.
Nigeria has a long way to go. Even in a country like the US, we are unable to even copy and paste the ways of the civilised people. My experience at the Consulate General of Nigeria in NY is not over as I am yet to collect / receive my sons passport till date. I just couldnt wait to give my review. My initial experience (April 30th, 2019) was smooth even though all the staff I encountered seemed to be irritable and under pressure but I guess its a Nigerian thing. The experience was way better than I had expected and compared to all the reviews I read that gave me so much anxiety.I paid for expedited processing ($130) for two of my children and was asked to come back after 7days (May 10th, 2019). I showed up after 7 days and after waiting for 3 hours, I was told without any empathy that only my daughters passport was ready because systems in Nigeria were down and the time zone didnt help either. I was then asked to return the following Monday (May 13th, 2019).I went back on Monday and I was told that the passports produced on friday were too many and in such a heap that they couldnt locate my sons passport. I was asked to buy a priority/express mail for $7.35 from the post office so that it will be mailed to me seeing that my job wouldnt permit me time off work any time soon. I did and walked away hoping that for once Nigerians will prove me wrong.Today is May 28th, 2019. One month after our application and 18 days after my sons expedited passport application was due. Still, the passport has not been mailed at all. Just gross incompetence!Which way NIGERIA?
This is the worse experience ever. Wish I could give you 4 👎👎👎👎instead. I applied for correction to my passport which had an error to my DOB. Was given a pick up slip with a date, which i expressed i needed my passport as soon as possible so i can take to another consulate to process my visa for trip that was 3 months away. I made many face to face attemps to pick up my passport, yet nothing. Given 2 seperate contact to call. Majority of the time no answer to my calls or text messages. Waited for months still no results. Was asked to pay extra to have my passport expedite still nothing. Each time I went to ask of my passport, everyone would say its not ready yet. The most annoying part is they ask for bribe money and they have a contact in the Abuja office that will process it faster. WORD OF ADVISE, dont waste your extra money, its all nonsense. You will not get the result you are looking for. Even to the week prior to my trip, I was told to exercise patience, what kind of rubbish are these people pulling. I had no choice but cancel my entire trip with my children which is nonrefundable, didnt get to process my visa with the with the other consulate and lost out so much money. Til today still my passport is not ready. If someone from the consulate or government official is reading this, improvements need to be made, for instance return the process as it was in the past where you could go to the consulate and have everything resolved in 1 day. To many of your workers in the passport office on the 8th floor are very rude with the exception of the security guards at the main entrance. Its a shame that as Nigerians we get treated like second class citizens. No human should have to go through such stress. I personally feel that there is so much corruption at this consulate and a lot of shady things happening.
I do not believe people tasked with answering phones here understand they are the face and voice of a whole nation! Rude, short and ill tempered lady answered my call and with absolutely zero phone manners proceeded to give me the worst service I have ever experienced. Normally Nigerians are one of the most warm and hospitable people in the world but you will never know that from calling the Nigerian Consulate. I have never been more ashamed to identify as a Nigerian.
One of the worst experiences in my life, I paid for my passport back in March, they gave me an interview Scheduled for June, the payment receipt clearly states that my payment is valid for a year, I could not make it to New York in June, so I had to reschedule my appointment to November 19, I traveled from Chicago to New York to apply for my passport, I gave them a paid envelope for them to return my passports,Mr. Chris gave me his card to follow up with him, I pleaded to Mr. Chris for my passport because I wanted to spend Christmas and New Year’s and Nigeria since I have not been there since 2005, Mr. Chris ignored all my calls up until January 8,To tell me that my payment was expired and that I have to send another money order for them to print my passports,And that he wanted the money order to his name, what the hell is going on? I called the embassy and the route operator answered me, and she started yelling to the phone, this point I don’t know what to do, I can’t get a passport for my own country that I was born in, how ridiculous.
Terrible!!!I applied for a passport renewal since last year August 2018 and I couldn’t get a date for interview till October ending 2018. Lo and behold I got a date which was December 10th 2018, went for the capturing and biometric on the same day. I was told I should expect it in my mail January 10th 2019. Today is June 12 2019. I till haven’t gotten anything in the mail. Oh and I tried calling, texting and emailing them. It got to a point that they blocked me, and did I mention that I paid $155 for the passport.🥴🥴😠😠😠😠😠🥺🥺🥺What a shame!I NEED MY PASSPORT O And it’s taking forever
I still haven’t received my passport since september that i went to apply for one. Postoffice tracking number showed they have not even attempted to mail my passport. I spent alot of money to drive to newyork, applied for passport for me and my kids. Nigerian government displaying their unprofessional services everywhere around the world. This is sickening.
It is a terrible place to be . They have Nigeria attitude entirely. My experience with one of the ladies who I presumed to be a senior officer kept us waiting for 30mins, reason she gave was that she was on a call with her husband in Nigeria. After the long wait with my wife, I went back to knock at her door, perhaps she forgot she kept people waiting and she got furious and asked me if she doesn’t have the right to speak with her husband? I was upset and very disappointed with that statement cos there is no where in the world expect in Nigeria an employee will keep customers waiting during official hours and be making personal calls. After paying 100 dollars money order just to get a letter to confirm that my children’s passport were certified copies from the Nigeria immigration service. Most of the staffs are very rude and nonchalant attitude to work. Please the Authorities should look into this.
Terribly run. I mailed my passport and waited TWO MONTHS and got nothing back. their voicemail is forever full. I went to the embassy and waited 2.5 hours. once I finally got to someone, his desk was COVERED in UNOPENED mail. I told him my problem and he dug through the pile of mail and found my passport just sitting there, visa still unprocessed.Do not mail anything to the incompetent people here, they are extremely disorganized. Im just glad they didnt lose it behind a shelf. If you want to use this embassy, visit them in person!
Went to go get my passport done on Sept. 16th 2019 and also after 5hrs of bought being there, was finally able to finish the process and was told that my passport will be ready on Oct. 15th 2019 and I bought a priority mail envelope so they can mail it and until now (Nov. 3rd 2019), they havent mail my passport out to me and I live in Chicago. Anyone went between these dates and have gotten their passports yet??
Amazing Experience Today at the Embassy. Very Organized and efficient people. I must commend the team at the embassy, from the reception to the guys at the 8th floor. Got there around 10am, completed my biometrics around 11:45am got my new passport around 3:30pm. Collection was scheduled to start between 2-3pm. God bless Nigeria.
Unfortunately this is average service, for Nigeria. Dont go there expecting average to stellar American service. If you want a passport, expect to be there all day. Get there between 10am and 1pm. Purchase a $30 money order before you go. Eat before you go and then go out to eat after passport data processing is done. You cant take any food or drink into the building. And you have to leave baby food at the front desk, which is ridiculous. Come with reading material or other entertainment, or be prepared to make friends in the waiting room so you can pass the time having conversation. You can go out to explore the city after the interview, just be back by 3:30pm. The lady who takes pictures and verifies your data is rude and nasty and acts so put upon, as if doing her job is actually a personal favor to you, ignore her stank attitude. Not sure why she still has a job interacting with normal humans, but her male counterpart is friendly, and the other staff members try to be helpful. You will get your passport at 5pm, if you are not a young child with constantly changing features, and that is a huge plus.
I had a good experience with all honesty .I applied for passport renewal.and followed all that was listed on the website . I am giving a 4-star because I was not the first to be attended to despite being the first to reach the consulate at 5:50 AM even before any staff (Naija factor and man know man). They ushered us in at 10 AM and started attending to us by 11 AM. By 12 PM I had completed the bio metric capture. The building was well air conditioned I must add.Make sure you take along your expiring(ed) Nigerian Passport and a Photocopy. The $30.00 processing fee listed on their website is no longer collected by the consulate, so you do not need to bring a money order.Yow will not be getting the passport same day. I was given a one-month period to pick it up. If it is inconvenient to return, you are given an option to go to the nearest USPS to make an Express service with tracking around $24.To be honest, I received the passport 10 days after my bio metric data capture. I hope this helps someone.........
Garbage. What a disgrace. All that oil money and the embassy is running like a broken bucket of bolts. If I could provide a negative star rating, Id do it.Why dont they have office supplies like envelopes and a postage meter? Why do they ask customers to provide them with self-addressed envelopes with postage when you need your passport delivered to you? Why arent they working on computers and scanners? Why do they have customers bouncing amongst the consulate building, FedEx, and the USPS?I plan to file a complaint and I encourage everyone else to do the same. And this f***-ass passport is only good for 5 years,. Trash.
I mailed my documents in and i only took the trip because there was a little delay in the expedited shipping so i had went to the office. Everyone was so nice to me it was a pleasure, no complaints like at all. I got there around 12:30pm and was done and left with my visa around 1:45pm. As long as u have all the documents you need you will be just fine ❤️
This is the worst place to get anything done. None of the staff seem to care about the needs of the clients! Everyone acts like you are doing them a disservice by even asking questions. You can come prepared, with an appointment, and still have issues. No one has answers for you and get upset when you ask questions. They will tell you they dont have your passport, yet its sitting in front of their face. Its disgusting and makes me ashamed as a Nigerian.
Shout outs to the staff yesterday who continued to work 3 hours overtime to ensure we didnt leave without our passports. Even though the system can be improved in general, the staff are doing all they can to serve A LOT of Nigerians everyday. And while it is OK to complain and bemoan the system so that the govt. of Nigeria can continue to improve it, its only fair to appreciate the work the staff at the consulate are doing to process enormous volumes application using our poor system.Special shoutouts to the soft spoken gentleman who went out and bought everyone water while we were waiting. Im still very surprised they didnt send us all away during their closing time, to return tomorrow. I never expected any government office, even in the US, to work overtime like that.
I usually don’t do this, but I have to share my experience regards my passport renewal @ Nigeria house New York. Mr chris Sees himself as the servant of the people, he treats people with respect and he’s right there during public holidays to help those that are in need like me on a faithful day. what a good boss that shows when the head is good the toe will also be good. Typical Nigeria oga on top won’t be humble like the way Mr Chris dose. Same goes for Mr Humphrey, he’s humble, good Listener and a great helper and good worker for Nigerians abroad. Better service, great staff, your needs will be taken care off in a timely manner.
Didnt really have any problems with the staff renewing my passport. Everyone has their own opinion of the place but i think if you have all the documents listed online the process would be easier. With that being said they could be more professional and organized but we know its Nigerian employees so that would be a miracle.
It’s pretty sad how there is no organization in this consulate. No one picks up the phone and service is extremely poor. We intentionally destroy our own name and have no passion for our country and what we stand for. If there was a rating less than 1, I would give it. You all cannot employ someone to work the phone? I have been calling for 2 months now and I only get a machine voicemail that replays and replays on every extension. Pathetic!
Though the consulate is operating in the US, the service is not near expectation. First the waiting area on the ground floor behind the security post is an eye sore. The workers are not on time schedule. Customer service window (8th floor) was supposed to reopen for pick up at 2pm. As at 2.55pm the window remained closed and no one talk to almost 100 people in the very small area used as elevator lobby and reception at the same time. The condition here is not encouraging!
This is the worse embassy i have ever been associated with. They careless about the general public, give the worse service, do not answer their phones so why have it? and fail customers on the day they promise to issue visas. Moreover, once you pay them, its non refundable. Why should this be happening in this modern world. I wonder who in the Nigerian government reads this and takes action. So sad!
My experience was nothing short but grace, went in on a holiday fingers crossed not sure if they were open but fortunately I was attended to and willingly. Its really getting better and with a humble hardworking man as a leader, the employees are up to the task. I said thank you and he replied dont mention we here to serve u, those words meant everything. Thank you n to all employees weldone.
It is just OK. The floor assigned to be used for Passport services and Visa applications is a bit small, and therefore is usually crowded. The staff there are like regular government staff in Nigeria, so do not expect them to go over and beyond to satisfy their customers. If you want to use their services, visit their website and read the information pages thoroughly, Do not skip any steps, because if you do, and show up at this consulate, the could get rude with you.
Extremely poor service. Having brought all the required documents to the embassy and asked by the attendants to make photocopies across the streets, I was told that the printer was faulty and might not come back up in a months time. I was given a phone number to call so as to check if the printer is running. I called this number multiple times without response. On my eighth try, on the third day, someone picked the phone, and to my surprise, he said I should be checking the Nigerian immigration service website to check if the printer is operational. I asked him to know how I would check such, he replied saying I should just fiddle around the website. I have been calling this same number ever-since without any response. Pathetic and unprofessional set of people.
Wow, I am literally in tears. I have never experieneced so much hateful rudeness like I did when I spoke to the man in the Visa department. I called about an issue I had regarding a visa and he would not even let me speak, all he was doing is yelling and acted like I did something wrong. He ended up hanging up on me, I didn’t even bother calling the extension back, no one deserves to be treated like that. I spoke to a very nice operator and she gave me some advice, im just hoping I can get my issue resolved before I have to travel.
Was there 2 weeks ago. The people that work there are incredibly rude, lack respect and are very miserable. They talk to people anyhow and even yell at customers. No organization and if they like you, then move you up in the line. Many people that arrived after me were attended to first and I had ALL of the required paperwork and got there when they opened. They dont even deserve one star.
My family and I went to Washington on vacation and we decided to go to New York for the renewal of our passport. When we got to Nigeria embassy in New York We met one of the workers at the embassy I told her that we came all the way from California for the renewal of our passport and the lady said I should go and talk to their boss (MR CHRISTOPHER NOMHWANGE) On getting to this man he helped us like we knew each other before. I thought this man is going to ask us for money after helping us . But this man proved me wrong. I offered him money he refused to take anything from us He said “WHAT I NEEDED FROM YOU IS YOUR PRAYER “ I wish all Nigerian can be like this wonderful man . Our country could have be one of the best in the world. Once again thanks you Mr CHRIS for making our country proud abroad.Keep up the great work.Timothy Omolafe.
So I went to Chicago on vacation and coming back to Germany, I was told that I need to renew my passport before I could travel back, meanwhile I had up to a week before school starts, I was so anxious knowing the fact that the process of renewing passport could take up to a month, I decided to go to New York for the renewal of my passport. Getting to Nigeria embassy in New York I met the workers at the embassy I told a lady about everything while taking to her Mr Christopher Nomhwange was on his way out, I talked with him concerning everything he really understood my situation so well. I still can’t believe how he helped me so fast, he was so concerned of me getting back to school in Europe on time.I want to say a big thank you to you Mr Christopher Nomhwange for everything. May the favour of God be upon you and establish the work of your hands.
I was pretty surprised at the attempts made at organizing the crowd that had come for their passport renewal. You are given a ticket number by security at the lobby after checking you have the basic requirements and sent up to the 8th floor. The passport officer comes out periodically from her booth to get people - about 15-20 in line according to the last 2 digits on their ticket number but trust Nigerians who will go and line up after the chosen , rightful ones panicking other people to go and line up haphazardly and not follow the system. The passport officer comes out every 25 mins to start all over to get Nigerians back in line accordingly. Anyway I submitted my docs and got my biometrics and photo taken within 2 hours roughly, ( got there by 9.59am, was done by 12.01pm) which by Naija standards I must admit was in record time . One of the consul officers - Mrs Dibia( which means doctor in Igbo and she would sure let you know what it means) comes out to explain their duties for the day in a very comical way - like a basketmouth type of way. I hadnt laughed so hard in a long time. Passport collection was between 2 and 3 pm same day. I stepped out of the building, walked 2 blocks down to a cafè and relished on a cuppa and a sandwich while lazyly flipped idly through Linda Ikejis blog on my phone on a beautiful and sunny November day. Anyway I get back on by 1.30pm , its still crowded but most people about 120 people at least had submitted their documents / applications. At 2.15 pm I get my new Naija passport, fill out some ledger and out I leave - never knew anyone and did not try to know anyone or tip anyone. It was a half day well spent!Caveat- quite a number of kids and babies crying. Be prepared, go with head phones to listen to music on ur phone, come with a novel . Cant take food inside though. Have fun!
Contrary to what I heard and read before my visit,I had a pleasant experience. The staff were good, polite and funny. I had lot of jokes from one of the female staff she gave some kind of pep talk. The air was working so there was no cranky moment and the best of all my visit was successful.I hope they keep it up. By the way, the food vendor sure cooks well.
On Friday the 8th of April at exactly 1:05pm I called the consulate office to enquire on my passport renewal process I encountered the worst customer service in my life. I asked if the consulate was open on Sunday, out of curiosity and the lady on the phone (with her thick Nigerian accent) replied with a the sarcastic answer No we are even open on Labor Day . I was not sure if I had heard her sarcasm correctly so I asked her to repeat herself and she started yelling at me asking why I would ask if the consulate was open on Sunday. I replied by telling her she was a representative and her job was to answer my question in a respectful manner. She then proceeded to yell some more and then hung up the phone. Now, I am also a Nigerian I know about Nigerians and our Nigerian behavior but even at home I had never encountered such blatant disrespect.
I renewed my passport today, September 9 and I have nothing but praises for Mrs. Dibia for the professional and efficient manner that she handled the process. I met more than 25 people when I got there around 11:30 a.m. and most people walked out with their new or renewed passports shortly after 2p.m. The consulate was unbelievably hot but Mrs. Dibia was able to cool and calm nerves by courteously and humorously assuring everyone that she will expedite the process. She calmly introduced herself, explained the process to us, answered questions and went to work. She personally was behind one of the two cameras for passport photos while directing her staff to move the process along. For the first time, I saw fellow Nigerians at the Nigerian House in NY heap praises on a staff of the consulate. Mrs. Dibia earned them. The heat and poor condition of the building are for another day.
I literally got off the phone with a woman with a british accent so immediately I thought I would be treated with respect. Of course that was not the case at all. She had the most disgusting why dont you just help yourself attitude. I know some Nigerians are not the most polite people, from past experiences and because I used to live there, but lord have mercy you do not need to have a job answering phones if you are going to be so disgusting. Your unwillingness to help anyone is so unnecessary. You shouldnt work there and someone should be listening to how you are turning people AWAY . Good job.
The front desk is nice, we spoken broken english, I felt like being in Naija. Other than that, nothing. I went there for passport, no passport. No computer to use to process application, not even a photocopying machine. The wall TV is not even working. The walls begging for new paint and dirty. It is a pack of shame. Up till now, after one week, my passport has not even been issued. Going from Chicago to New York Embassy a total waste.
The worst place ever, not helpful at all, my first time trying to get a visa, had all my paperwork shots, American passport, flight info, pics. Just going on vacation. Was not helpful. Now going to apply again online. If that dont work. I will cancel my flight. Why are they here in America when they are not helpful to Americans, very rude and nasty. Plus wanted me to go to some guy to get my visa, said he charges 200 hundred dollars plus processing free. Scamming.
This is the most horrible place I have ever been, it quite unfortunate that I paid for one passport twice at renewal and still didnt get the passport renewed due to the negligence of the Embassey after I traveled 3night with the bust to New York from my state of abode. I was giving a number to the immigration attaché who is the demi god at the embassy. I am still terrified cos I still can renew my passport.
Auntie at the visa desk came 30 minutes early to explain the documentation needed. (Which 3/4 of the people waiting did NOT have) The other lady who helped me told me what I needed to process my visa and it was ready the next morning as soon as I hit there which was opening! They actually processed some emergency cases the same day.Unfortunately, the staff here is under appreciated. I had made an appointment years before as a 19 year-old to find what products I could export to Nigeria and the minister spent over an hour going over the import list and how to navigate the process of doing business in Nigeria.I love Nigeria House. Ignore the complaints of entitled Nigerians. The staff is small, but they work very hard here.
If you need to renew your passport you need a few things:1.) $30 money order2.) Fill out the app online and pay the correct fee. Print out payment confirmation3.) Print and sign the application form4.) Copy of Nigerian passport info page(s)5.) Nigerian Passport**Subject to change based on how they are feeling that day**If you dont have these things, your life will be an absolute nightmare, just so you know.
Haha.. I was actually very surprised that this place was actually smaller than I expected ( better than Nigeria where its to crowded) I also received my passport on the same day, which is a PLUS!!VERY VERY Good Service. The People - By people , I mean the customers- can actually be Rude to the people serving them, very impatient. _ which makes the officials seem BAD.MY ADVICE : If You Want to Get things Done, Get all Your documents READY And patiently wait in line because You WILL be there all DAY. In the END its worth it. Just be patient.ALSO > THE people giving bad reviews are part of the reason Nigeria is the way it is.. LOLNamaste my friends ! SEE you in 5 Years..
I have no wahala with the Nigeria embassy. They are ok. I have a MAJOR MAJOR issue with the payment system. it is a pain in the neck when you need to make payment for more than one person or for someone else without same last name. all my complains below is for the payment system.1) The whole customer service department should be fired.2) there needs to be another rival payment option other than this innovate. But who am i kidding. this is naija. someone gave the contract to their friend. Who only cares about collecting money and not improving the system/service. To top it off. He outsourced it to cheap labor in India...3) It takes you hours to get through to the unhelpful customer service department.4) They do not respond to emails.5) They give you generic answer after you have given them detailed explanation of what you have done. They cannot think outside the box.6) They should be able to process payment over the phone if a customer is having problems making the payment online after verifications.7) Nigeria Embassy need to start accepting money order at the embassy. It should not feel like a death sentence to get a passport/Visa.
There is a Marked difference between the consulate on 2nd Ave and the Visa Office on Lexington Ave. That is the front office run by Innovate where a private company has placed the rudest ratchet set of idiots they could find to misrepresent the image of Nigeria. And get this, the staff arent even Nigerians. For a citizen making an inquiry about the most important piece of document that identifies me as such on the authority of the Commander in Chief, I was befuddled why I was received in such a hostile and unbecoming Manner. This is poor oversight on a PPP arrangement that is ruining the image of Nigeria, and traumatizing its nationals seeking refuge in the consulates operations. This is classic Nigeria 101, a porous HR department in a private company has single handedly ruined a fundamental PR outlet in none other than New York State!!!!!The Consulate staff on 2nd Ave are helpful and professional. The Passport renewal procedure is simple and straightforward, outside of the slow pace of biometrics which could definitely be improved considering the calibre of Staff there.
Had a mixed feeling before going there, friends and relatives were not too positive about my mission getting accomplished that same day, that was the same feeling by most of the applicant. But it turns out the reverse was the case as we were welcome by one Mrs Debie pardon me for the wrong spelling, she was the consulate attachee ,she was professional, great customer service, friendly and motherly caring for everyone. The bottom line is she and the other employees went beyond and above to make sure we had our passport the same day.i will surely recommend that new applicants should make there their first chioce but please go with the require paper work.GOD BLESS NIGERIA
The whole staff are total trash and all should be fired and replaced with people that are professional. My experience here was a total nightmare. All the staff behave like they were forced to work there. If you are not happy with your job then quit. The service is a total disgrace and should be shut down.
If there was a review less than Poor, that’s the score they deserve. The New York Nigerian Embassy should learn from the Washington Dc Embassy. After so many trials of phone calls someone finally picks up and who is it? A douche bag lady, that calls herself a controller with a fake British accent. By the way she never gives out her name. She is so rude and obnoxious. she tell you she will direct you to the right office but ends up giving you her own opinion, tells you she can tell you what ever she feel like and lets you know you cant do anything about with a threatens to drop the call. And then when you ask her to speak to someone else or what’s her name? Guess what!!! She drops the phone call on you and never pick up. She should be fired she is the only one with that Fake British accent and there are no two of them. I’m not sure how she got that Job. She is a douchebag!!! And a ******* fill in the blanks
If you encounter any issue relating to receiving passport or visa, just kindly ask for Mr Chris. Hes the best man over there and will get your problem solved within hours. Though theres need for improvement, Mr Chris is definitely someone to always watch out for when you go over there.
One star is too generous for this place. Why have a number if NO ONE picks it up! I called three days in the roll, during working hours and never got anyone. This place frustrates me beyond words. If I never have to deal with this place ever again it will be too soon!!!!
So as this is the second time a Nigerian consulate has cost me (the first time was the uber useless canadian one located in ottawa), I feel compelled to write a review.I went to this consulate to renew a passport that was near expiry since the planned trip to Nigeria which was when it was to have been renewed had to be cancelled due to ebola outbreak (dont get me started on how these idiots knew there was an outbreak a few countries over, months before and didnt start screening if not on a federal level at airports at least by the fracking state governments that had international airports situated in their states). So i get to this place and the printer is broken, which is fine as these things happen but youd think theyd have a backup machine given the volume of passports they print or at least have a service contract that ensures a 24hr turn around time, but no. What really gets my goat is that they have a website where you can easily update citizens whod be coming around for one thing or another on situations like this (setting this up is the most trivial thing you can do in the software/computer infrastructure world), but that would make sense right?if they had done this once the passports was ready those of us that could and had urgent time-critical things to do with the passports would have come around to pick them up, which in my case has now cost me hundreds of dollars even though the passport was ready in time for what i wanted to do but the yahoos at these place couldnt figure out how to streamline and make a simple notification process available either publicly or privately via email addresses (which was provided during the application process) to the various clients of their services.By the sword of Ogun and the Palm Oil of Esu, may each and every worker at this consulate who was involved lose hundreds of dollars in the comming weeks and months ...
The website hours are unriable. The out going voice message from the consulate to Nigerians and foreigners looking to visit the consulate for business is unreliable. If we do not have someone managing the website account to provide reliable information affecting Ones visit to the consulate, then someone should record an outgoing message saying the consulate is open or closed for the day. People are traveling long distances only to be told that the consulate is closed. Whereas the website is saying the consulate is open when in fact it is closed. That information could have been made available by listening to the phone message when one calls the Consulate of Niveria. Common proplr. It is not that hard. I will do it for free. People Tend sick with a lot of stress. Help the people bikonu.
Horrible customer service. The woman who was on the phone on the 5th of February 2015 was absolutely rude, cursed like a drunken sailor, and then cut the phone when I asked for clarification about the renewal of my International passport. It is such a shame that Nigeria spends so much money to employ people of such a low caliber.
I went up there a few months thinking I had all the proper documents, but when I got there, they said I needed another document! I told them I brought everything I was instructed to bring, per their website, but they said they couldnt help me unless I had that other document. I then asked to speak with the supervisor and she came out and started yelling at me, and embarrassed me in front of everyone there. They are VERY mean and unprofessional! Now I have to go back up there, but I have a question to ask, so Ive been calling for the past 3 weeks and NO ONE EVERY ANSWERS THE PHONE!!!! Again theyre so unprofessional!!!!! I wish I could give them 0 starts!
Called numerous times to no avail. Was afraid this place didnt exist. To my suprise it did once i had to call of work and find answers in person. Sadly didnt get a single thing done as the payment system is out of wack. Had to come back another day. STILL HAD WALHALLA of all kinds as I was told you can only pick up passports between 2 and 3. Ive been waiting since 11am... waist of time, money and energy. Almost makes you not want to travel.. NONSENSE!!
It was actually a good experience, contrary to what I had heard or was expecting. Mrs. Dibia gave a long but funny speech. I got my passport the same day and I did not even have to beg or cry. Just go there early and make sure you have all the documents stated on the website.Cheers.
Oh man...I wish you could give no stars. Worst place ever. The workers are disrespectful to you and have no respect for the elderly. How do you scream at an elderly woman and then ask a young boy for respect? Then you have kids wait 5 hours in the lobby and anoyher 3 hours in the waiting room...and then you put up a sign that says no eating or drinking? Such a bad example of Nigerians🙄
Honestly the Nigerian Consulate office in USA customer services is the worsties and their application guidelines are poor. Therefore , we request your attention to look into the situations and please make amendments to make our needs easy. To make some enquiries or how to renew passport applications online etc are the issues.
Guys if you are expecting Nigeria Embassy to mail out your passport to you, you are wasting your time....I capture on 23rd September 2019, they told me collection day is 22nd of October 2019 and i gave them paid envelope mail for them to mail it out to me, they didnt mail it to me until yesterday 9th of January 2020 i went there by myself to collect it......(and the passport has been issued since on 21/10/2019)...Better you go and collect your passport....THEY DONT MAIL IT OUT take note
If I could give a zero I would I was there from opening to closing 10am -5pm I was waiting in the freezing cold till 2pm than me and my sister forcefully entered the building people who were after as went ahead before us and we finish dead last so but we were one of the first to come so disorganized honestly hate that place with a passion sometimes I wish my parents we’re never from that disgraceful country called Nigeria....
This being the 1st time I had been to the Nigerian NY Consulate in over 20 yrs, I was pleasantly surprised. As others have implied, I believe the key to having a good experience is making sure you do your homework before coming to the Consulate, i.e. dot the is and cross the ts. Follow the instructions on their website to the letter and you wont be disappointed. In contrast to my experience 20 yrs ago, the staff actually worked hard to help you. Mrs. Dibia, who gave us the orientation speech, was a joy! She spoke as a Nigerian (in a good sense) to other Nigerians. She was full of humor and used words from such different Nigerian languages that you couldnt tell what her ethnicity was! That is the kind of Nigeria I want. Kudos to the entire staff!
I fortunately had a very good experience, I needed a Consulate Certificate for my job and needed it within a week. I read other peoples reviews and was afraid I would not get this done. I was able to get the paper work in much less than a week thanks to Ms. Amachree in the Welfare & Legal department. I literally cant thank her enough for her help, it was a smoothe and professional process.
If theres something below zero star then I should ve given them instead of 1 star. This department is very terrible, everyone of them needs to be FIRED! I mean FIRED! Went there frm CT, they complained abt ink & they couldnt get my passport renewed. The men re partially ok but those old ladies are a bunch of ass holes. I 8 2 go there for nothing! Someone should do something abt dz office plz.
Cannot get anyone on the phone in the NY Embassy. The phone system goes goes in a loop no matter what option you choose. These folks have received my passport. Is this a joke? Our government should demand they close that circus house if these folks continue to operate that way.
Mrs Dibia gives hope! If you are in New York and need the assistance of the Consulate General of Nigeria just go there and ask of Mrs Dibia. You dont need to know her or anybody who knows her before hand. I can tell you she will do her very best to ensure you are served as you deserve. I experienced this myself. God bless her.
Horrible horrible horrible...the security men were very very rude telling me I dont have an appointment when I actually do...didnt take time tho I was done in an hour that was just my happiness..ps how come there is no light in the bathroom????had to use a flashlight🥴
Thumbs up Nigerian Embassy Newyork.I was really surprised to receive good service.I submitted my application and received my passport the same day.The service was swift and the staff were friendly even taking time out to make the kids feel comfortable. The only negative experience was at the front desk. The lady who collected the application was kind of rude, even though she achieved the job,her tone was wrong. However on average I must say they got it right this time.Lets hope you will keep it up! Good job!
Impressive .....Mrs Dibia made sure i got my baby Intl Passport to fly out of US within 24hrs ......... Also would advice you to follow the instructions on the web site and also arrive before 1pm and come with your pen :) the lady in the passport file section found it hard to release her pen:)Also would advice the Embassy to make the lobby waiting room for Intl Passport lively , getting a TV connected to Nigeria News Channel would not be a bad idea :)

2022-01-25The Nigerian Consulate office continues to improve services delivered to Nigerians needing traveling documents and National identification through International Passport issuance or renewals. You have to have been there a couple of times in the last 20 years to be able to notice the improved posture therein now! We gave 89 - 90% in approval ratings during this last visit of January 2022. Please help rate our service agencies with liberal scores to encourage more of these positive postures. #NoMoreSilentOkosi, Syracuse, New York

2022-07-08Wow!!! What a difference a year makes. I was here March 2021 and today is July 7, 2022. The improvements were very noticeable. On my way from Grand Central at 8:30am, I anticipated a long line outside the consulate but there wasnt a single person outside. At the security desk, covid protocol was followed...temp check, masks AND sanitizing of hands. Once seated a very polite man came up and welcomed us and gave directions on how we would proceed. We were asked to line up according to arrival times, starting with those with appointments today, followed by those without appointments starting with applicants with little children then the elderly, then everyone else. The processing room is now on the 2nd floor. The TV had CNN on, the chairs were neatly arranged, no overcrowding, and the room was fully air-conditioned.There is also a display on the wall and the sound of a bell signifying an announcement was being displayed. It asks applicants number _ to _ (increments of 5) to proceed to the room on the left. The processing time was also very quick and efficient. We were done in under 3 hours.Would have given 5 stars for this review but its not all positive. The one setback I noticed is that the ladies room still needs improvement. It was still dark in there, only 1 stall was unlocked so you had to wait, and there was no toilet paper.Overall it was much better than my 4 or 5 previous visits. Welldone NCG on the improvements. Please keep it up.

2022-03-26I have been able to get the ECOWAS passports for me, my wife and one of my sons. Though the crowd was huge, the staff managed to attend to all and made returnable mailing envelopes available at affordable cost. You pay an official penalty fee for walk in, in lieu of scheduled interview appointments. Great efforts are being made to improve services there everyday. Kudos!

2022-06-23I feel this is the worst embassy in the world if I am not wrong. We pay for services not as if its free. Your job is to deliver the service on time as stated. I have been waiting for my passport which I renewed for the past 4 months now and they agreed that it will be ready in 3months. I called and they told me that they dont have booklets for passport printing. I felt really ashamed on their behalf. After 4 months? I feel they are not serious with their job

2022-06-18June 2022 - just went to get a passport. Public Notice: be sure to make a copy of everything(acknowledgement & payment slip) , colored-copy of your old passport especially - before you get there. Take self-addressed usps priority mail envelope (from them to you). They were much better organized than in the past.

2022-04-15I was contemplating on which of the Nigerian embassies in the US to go to. After reading reviews from the 3 main branches, I made up my mind to go to New York. Though they don’t pick up their calls but if you must want to reach them before going, you can always send an email and you’d get a reply. So I went up there few days go and the whole process was really smooth and in order. That surprised me. I was done in less than 3 hours. Some of the staffs even gave me some hospitality. Overall, the consulate in New York is really great and I’ll go there again next time.Below are required documents and fees you’d need:•$30 Admin fee (could be card or money order)•$100 + $30 Admin fee if you don’t have appointment scheduled (could also be card or money order)• printed payment slip (from the online application via innovate )•printed Acknowledgment slip•self addressed return envelope with a tracking numberFor lost/stolen passport, it’s a different processYou’d need to first send some documents to request for a police report and you’d have to go along with a penalty fee of $350 money order

2022-07-10This is the worst place in the entire world to get a passport done. I had gotten a passport done for my son and I in early march. 4 months later we are still waiting. There is no word. We actually went and wasted our entire time and now I will likely have to go back to yet another place to get our passports. All this word on 12 weeks. That’s 3 months. We are in month 4. Ignore the positive reviews because they pay their staff to write them. Stay away fromThis embassey

2022-06-03The whole process went by very fast (less than an hour total). Just make sure you have all your documentation and youll be all set. I got my passport in the mail in a little over 4 months after my appointment

2022-04-07Overall, It was a smooth process to get my biometrics captured. However, the real challenge is now waiting for my passport. They said 12 weeks. I’ll update when I get it.Edit 1:Its 13 weeks now. Still Havent gotten my passport.Edit 2:I was able to get my passport on Tuesday close to 15 weeks after applying. I had to go to the embassy to inquire about the situation before they provided me with the passport. Everyone at the embassy was really helpful and I eventually got the passport. Giving 4 stars only for the late delivery of the passport.

2022-04-14They refuse to refund the money they owe me and I had to pay twice for processing my passport. According to them I didn’t pay them I paid another innovate. Also their scheduling tool isn’t currently working so I can’t schedule for an interview. Called the number provided and got no response.
