Updating my review as I finally got my apt and went yesterday. It went smoothly and everyone was friendly. They make you scan your belongings and go through metal detector and adhere to COVID protocol. The person assisting me was pleasant and thorough. Bring cash as they don’t don’t accept credit card and take photo at 218 Madison ave because standard passport photos in cvs or Walgreens don’t have the biometric requirements that you need for polish passport so save yourself the headache. It wasn’t easy getting my appointment but I learned that you have to go online at 9 am and 4 pm during weekday and keep refreshing the page for a few minutes and submitting the amount of people for appointment and then an availability will eventually pop up. I am happy that within 8-12 weeks I will have my passport. Thank you.
Zero stars !!! I have been trying to make an appointment to renew my passport for over a month now. There is no help, nobody picks up the phone plus there is a sarcastic ping pong game over email communication if they decide to respond, offering absolutely NO help whatsoever! Their claim to fame is to send you e-konsulat website that does NOT work in regards of setting appointment for your visit. No matter what time you are trying to make appointment ( 9am, 4pm or 8pm when the new available dates should be released ) there is a notice “ brak terminów do..” and the website doesn’t allow you to choose any date!! Is Mr Adrian Kubicki aware of all that? If you don’t offer your phone representatives to make app over the phone for people please fix the website so ppl can make appointment. I know an excellent IT who could fix your poor web navigation. This is XXI century but this consulate works worse than institutions in PRL.Absolute disgrace!
Other than the fact that I had to travel a looong way to NYC to renew my passport I have nothing bad to say.I dont know what the bad reviews are about other than those people must have some unseasonable expectations.I was in and out in half an hour. Very courteous staff, very professional and helpful.Only suggestion is that you communicate with them through email priorto your visit if needed.
Made online appointment, went to the consulate today August 10th, 20. My time was set at 12 pm, parked my car on 37th and 1st - $18 special if you arrive before 10am, I arrived 10.00 lol! Great. Went straight to small photo shop 218 Madison ave ( as beautiful p. Ewa from consulate suggested), breeze, $20 later 4 good pics in my hand. Then quick breakfast in one of local cafes on Madison ( mind you , we are in the midst of crazed epidemic lol !!). 15 minutes to 12 pm, tall very pleasant guy opens the doors and invites us as per list! I mean pleasant smiling guy, highly unusual for government officials. Bravo. He actually POLITELY helped me with filling up a form, no stress.10-15 minutes later , after relaxing in air conditioned beautiful setting , one of the 3 stunning muses invites me to her window. Easy, nice and gentle politeness, zero stress, absolutely professional and beautiful ladies at the same time , I’m in heaven. Trust me I have seen all kinds of PRL old style offices and communist approaches. I had few question for my daughter, all answered with a smile , omg ! 2 hours later I return after a decent beer at Irish bar on Madison and my new stunning Polish passport is ready ! Ty , ty, ty. Again this post concerns the service of everybody INSIDE the consulate.Great and wonderful !
Fantastic and professional service. I had my temporary passport done in an hour from the time I walked in. Get your pictures taken across the street before you go in to speed things up and remember that they are cash only.Do not try to schedule using their website or try to call them. Just go in during their office hours.
Tried and tried and tried to call the 646 number to find out basic information about passport renewal but NEVER GOT THROUGH... In order to make an appointment you have to do it online which is fine but the earliest appointment is in about two weeks. To get the quickest response you have to do it via email and it takes them about three business days to respond. In early April when I went to renew my passport (because Im traveling abroad) you could only pay cash which is ironic since all the other stuff has to be done electronically.Despite giving all my personal information like phone number, email address and my mailing address no one has contacted me in regards to whats going on with my passport because it still has not arrived. When I went to check my passport status online, the application was not found. I emailed them and still have not heard back.Somethings cant wait three days and a response should be provided sooner.
I started my dealings with this consulate over a year ago to obtain my Polish citizenship and ultimately my Polish passport. Every step of the way, each person with whom Ive dealt, has been professional and courteous. Even the men who manage the door are polite. Ive been to many embassies and consulates around the world due to my profession, and I can say that the personnel at this Polish consulate have been great.
Its a horrible place and even though the service is also terrible I was just talking to someone on the phone asking about passport pictures and she just give me the information like yelling over the phone and then I ask her another question and shes like well I just give you all the answers do you have any other questions then goodbye she just hang up on me I am so embarrassed that this place even exist and what kind of people are working. I wish I had never called him and just go in there and ask in person though I live way too far in order to do that. I feel so embarrassed the Polish people treat people like this, this is ridiculous even though I am polish and I dont treat people like this like the way they are in that service.
Most unhelpful, poor customer service imaginable. Its a throwback reminder to communist era. Red tape that is inflexible and designed to not work in favor of the customer/client. If you are not fluent in Polish the website is no good. Links have Polish and English text but then the pages load in in Polish only because the forms are in Polish only.Appointments are only arranged on-line, no help via phone-calls. This does not serve the Polish passport holders that do not navigate proficiently in Polish, since this consulate is not in its native country it should consider the difficulties this poses for natives.
The best “consulate experience” I’ve ever had. All information you need to apply for a visa available online.Don’t believe to some nonsense people put in their review about “a throwback reminder to communist era” or complains about emails being answered in 3 business days. Polish Consulate much better than Ukrainian, Russian or even Hungarian Consulates in NYC, for example. It is normal for Consulates to answer emails in 3 days, but the email I’ve sent them in the evening was answered next morning at 9am and contained all required information. If you want to have bad “consulate experience” – apply for a visa to Greece in NYC! :-) I had to cancel my trip to Greece because Greek Consulate was that bad, but I am going to visit Poland next month…
This place is terrible, dont ever assume youll get anything done on time. We were sent home 2 times already, first time because they failed to tell us of all the documents we need to have with us (we called in advance to find out). Second time because they didnt like the translation weve had with us. It actually reminds me of bureaucratic bs that is common in poland.
I came here for a Visa. Very nice service and very polite. I do recommend asking before you go if you need any extra documents that werent mentioned in the requirements just because they asked me for some. Luckily I was extra prepared and had them with me. Then I received my visa in less than a week!
I can only describe my experience with ALL the staff at the Polish Consulate as very professional, knowledgeable and cheerful to help me. They are ALL first rate in my humble opinion and I have worked my entire life in the upper Management of the high End Hotel Business, ipso facto I know good service when I see it! Now, its time for some mushroom pierogi with m butter onion sauce with a touch of either fresh sage or fresh thyme!!! And of course with the best Potato Vodka in the world . . . Chopin Vodka!!!!ED NIZOLEK (really Niziolek from Warsaw)Manhattan
Today I i was there for renew my expired passport, it was Thursday, I did appointment online with no problem, Service was excellent almost no line, Lady explained me everything also with temporary passport, Thank you so much,1 You enter security check point then, guy from security give you paper for fill up the form, if you did that he will give you number for window,Today I was at the consulate to renew my passport, the meeting is set up on the consulates website via the Internet, when you enter the center, first you pass the security check through the gate and then the security person gives you a form to fill out, if you fill out this gives you a number to the box, I got that there were not a lot of people, the service was kind, professional, comprehensive answers, Thank you
Nice ladies work at the Consulate. Everything went smoothly. It is true that it is difficult to make an appointment, records are ahead for 3-4 months at a specific time of the day, but still a positive impression. Ive been to several other Polish Consulates around the world and the one in NYC is definitely one of the nicer ones.
For several weeks he has been trying to make an appointment for a passport and, unfortunately, the system only postpones the dates overnight. Ive already sent 3 emails, Ive been calling for a few days and Im just wasting my time, no one answers. I understand covid, but New York is open now, so please dont mind the restrictions. I will make my passport in Poland sooner than anyone here will be able to help me. Waste of time!
I was at the Polish Consulate in New York with a question about how to get a Polish passport. A nice security guard gave me a useless information that I can do it on the e-konsulat.gov.pl website. On this website I write that at 8 p.m. you can sign up for a visit to the Consulate. This is not true. I have been trying to sign up for two weeks. And for 1-3 minutes I have information that the deadlines are taken. And then information that the deadlines have expired. I have not seen such miracles yet. I wondered what was going on and three reasons came to mind. There is a cybercrime attack on the Consulate. The second reason could be corruption and the trading of dates by some Consulate staff. The third reason is the ineptitude of the Polish Consulate. Will someone give me advice what to do with it ???? I am going to find an e-mail from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Poland and make a complaint. Maybe there will be more dissatisfied and we will file the complaint together. You can one day cover the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with complaints about the Polish Consulate in New York. I am asking for suggestions to solve this problem, because I see that many of my compatriots have the same problem.
Something terrible! For the last three months, he has been in regular contact with the consulate by e-mail to arrange a passport renewal meeting. The website not only contains information about the lack of free terms for 6 months ahead, but also after this period it is not possible to sign up even after these 6 months. Personally, I was at the front of the embassy to ask how else can I arrange such a meeting as numerous telephone attempts ended with no answer. I received help at the embassy threshold from one of the employees (in connection with covid19) with a reply to my e-mails. Two months later and 4 emails later no reply. I pointed out that this is an urgent matter for me due to the loss of income and the fact that it is the only form of ID for me. In the case of random accidents, not to mention the necessity of departure, I do not have any other documents. I would like to add that I sent my first contact attempts in March, it is currently September.
For several days I have been trying to make an appointment as part of the renewal of the Polish passport, unsuccessfully the online booking system does not work !! every day the date of the next free term is extended by 1 day, in addition, nobody answers the phone, every day, is it a joke?
I guess Im lucky - the phone at the consulate received immediately, two e-mails were answered within less than 24 hours, the date of the visit was booked on the first attempt. In fact, the registration instructions were slightly imprecise (registration for the appointment is currently possible at 9:00 and 16:00, literally - after a while all dates are taken) and the whole process needs improvement, but in view of what is happening around, I think that it is not bad anyway.Apart from the above, I have nothing to complain about.
I will not write in English, but in Polish ... Today I was at the Polish Consulate of our Polish Diplomatic Post and I have to state that the notes are given to this post for the queues and today I waited for 30 minutes to be at the consulate office justified for them. ..Everyone will say bureaucracy in the Consulate ... Well, no, the people serving there try to keep everything running, they do it for years there ... Today I wanted to extend my passport and it took me 5 minutes at the window ... Forms, the photo will pay the receipt yes as in the Polish Slavic Bank, quickly and the next one, but if I see compatriots who are not prepared to meet with the consul, the knife opens for me ... Here we have to deal quickly with matters to which we go, not looking for advice ... Everyone will tell and where the internet is friends these are the best sources ... Please, all of you, prepare yourself with everything, make sure you have all the documents you need, photos, money, and all other necessary papers .... This will allow me to reduce my time by 30 minutes by Passport release which takes me 5 minutes at the window .... Regards Consulate led by Mr. Security Guard :) Adrian New York
The matter of renewing the passport went very smoothly. From the beginning of the visit via the Internet to the very end. I do not know where these negative ratings from others. Life shortages. I got professional and helpful service. I got the temporary passport in about an hour. You have to remember to bring the right documents, papers, photos and everything going smoothly. Check the details on their website. Everything is clear. We fill out additional forms on site. If you dont know where to take photos for your passport, this is Photo Mission on E 39th St. between Madison and Park Ave. A bit expensive because around $ 26 per person but you dont have to go far and look. Please remember that the Consulate is only charged with cash.
I dont know why this place is called the Polish Consulate. You can not get any help in this place, and about that I was attacked verbally by an employee of the consulate! In my opinion, this is the purpose of such a facility to help Polish citizens and not to treat us as someone inferior and leave us to ourselves.
Hello,I am touched by the conversation that I had today with the lady working at the consulate general. To put it mildly, she was rude and certainly very nervous about my time. This situation took place twice and I spoke with the same voice twice. Please tell me how is it possible that such a nervous woman from the communist films removed works in a place where theoretically helps Poles ?!if you read me:Shame on you. Shame on you. Shame on you for helping this citizen !!!
The Cleveland travel agency made a list of passports willing, the consul arrived from New York to Cleveland as the list exceeded 50 customers, we made appointment with my wife and both passport renewal cases were completed in half an hour. We just had to wait for the passports we received from FedEx for some time.We saved time and expenses for the trip, the hotel, although it cost a little more, but it paid off.
Peace accepting a tragic service such as you have a lot of questions, the officials remind you that other customers are also waiting just such a state office service not too competentWaiting room horrible costumer service on low scale if you ask to many questions they would tell there other people waiting they are unable to help simple government office with government people having jobs with very limited knowledge waisted tax money
If the embassy has its responsibilities, and it seems to me, to take care of the image of our beautiful country, then please be interested in how it is presented in the UN / store in the underground /.I hope that someone from the embassy will read this and fix this state of affairs ...please

2022-03-04Very convenient place to renew my polish passport! Building is very old, but beautiful interior. Not a lot of space in the hall though. It’s super easy to access from subway. The staff are very very friendly and the one lady at window was quite accommodating and easy to work with. My renewal took less than 15 mins. They also send your passport to your home directly for just $9 via FedEx Express. I’ll definitely be back in 10 years ! I see negative reviews of this place because of normal issues. I would like to offer details on how to make process quicker.—The appointment scheduler is very tricky to use. Keep checking back periodically and eventually a time slot will open up. (Check after 8 pm weekday)—Make sure you download and complete application off the website and bring it with you.—Take your passport photo at like Walgreens, CVS, etc as they don’t do that here! They will send you to a photo store and this will hold you up.(It’s more pricey).— Payment is CASH ONLY!!!! Please check website for the total cost. DO NOT bring your Credit/Debit card as there is no ATM inside.—Lastly, they get lots of clients daily; Which is why you can’t reach them. I suggest email them and they do respond quickly.

2022-03-18Great service, with a smile. I didn’t have all the forms needed to solve my issue, they gave me new forms, instructions in English on how to fill them out. And they have a big Ukrainian flag on display, for solidarity.

2021-08-04Tough to rate. This is a great place if you want to experience 20th century bureaucracy at work. The consulate retains the culture of efficiency that probably dates back to the communist days. If you are nostalgic about long lines for butter or toilet paper during marshal law, or are nostalgic about the pace of service in post office or any government office in communist Poland, you will be able to experience it right here in NYC. Five stars for successfully bringing memories of childhood back, one star for 21st efficiency. But, I think its time to enter the 21st century and leave the study of the past to historians and museums with historical objectivity, thus truly leaving the communist past behind.
