Duane Reade in other cities:
I honestly cannot believe the experience I just had at this Walgreens pharmacy. I live in the next county and often pick up my prescription in the city, as it’s not usually available in my area. After questioning the authenticity of my photo ID (“This is you?”), the pharmacist -- first name Ali -- proceeded to repeatedly question me on why I was picking up my script in another county and attempted to tell me that I cannot pick up prescriptions outside of my own ”area”, but he would “do it for me this time”. I know this is 100% false, as I’ve had prescriptions called into other states while traveling. Also, Ali failed to print out the “law” he was referring to, as I requested twice. And the icing on the cake — ended up paying twice for the prescription because apparently my prepayment failed, even though the funds were most definitely deducted from my account. I do not appreciate the demeaning treatment by this pharmacist Ali.
Karen was just great assistance in the makeup department expected for her Supervisor Neil was awfully obnoxious and rude. Karen was very loving and polite. She answer to all my questions and needs when it came to my face wash and toner. They do have a great face care/ make up department.
Pharmacy here is a disaster. The 79th street location said dont bother calling here they wont pick up (which was true). Waiting in line they had lost multiple customers prescriptions with extremely long wait times. Customers kept coming up to the counter reporting errors in their prescriptions.
I am a Health care provider. I have waited on hold in excess of an hour to speak to the Pharmacy staff about prescriptions for my patient. The automated message counts down from more then 3 callers ahead of me down to one caller then please hold ultimately ending in me being forwarded to another line that disconnected
Calling via phone is a pain in the neck. As I write this review, I’ve been on hold for over 23 minutes. Whenever I call, I have a very long hold time. They’re either under staffed or have something wrong with their phone system. They said they were going to deliver a prescription today, but they did not. After waiting nearly half an hour on the phone, I’m going to go pick it up myself. I’m not impressed with their service. Now it is one year after the review above was written and things are even worse. Yesterday I called and was on hold for 1 hour 52 mins. At that point, the call dropped, so I had to call back and wait on hold again just under 30 mins. I spoke to a pharmacy tech who told me that my 2 prescriptions would be delivered tomorrow. Well, it’s now “tomorrow” and no delivery came. I spent 36 mins on hold tonight trying to get through. Something told me that I would be on hold indefinitely, so I hung up and started over. After 23 mins, I got through and spoke to a pharmacist, who also told me that my prescriptions would be delivered “tomorrow.” I’ll believe it when I see it. The ONLY reason I use this pharmacy is because it’s close to my condo and open 24 hours. If there were another option nearby, I would never use this pharmacy. My advice is to try to avoid using this pharmacy unless it’s the only 24 hour pharmacy near you. The service is very bad, phone hold times for me have been as bad as 3 hours or more total, and it’s stressful depending on them because they don’t always do what is promised. I would give 0 stars, but I don’t think it’s possible.
My husband picked up my medication at the pharmacy in your store at 2069 Broadway in Newyork city on 1/26/2022. The instructions on the bottle were not clear therefore I called the pharmacy around 8:15 pm for advice. A woman with Eastern European accent answered. She was rude and could not be bothered to listen to my question. Rather she was almost yelling at me, provided incorrect information and abruptly hang up the phone. This is shameful behavior for someone working in a pharmacy who is supposed to help people with potentially serious diseases. I expect more from Walgreens as a corporation in terms of screening their staff. The lack of knowledge, unwillingness to listen, and unapologetic rudeness from this person was unbelievable.
This place is not just about poor service it’s dangerous. As a physician for over 25 years, I needed to call in an emergency prescription for a patient. This is the SECOND DuaneReade I tried on behalf of my patient. The first one I spent 14 min on general hold. Then was transferred to the pharmacy, where I was put on an additional 15 minutes before someone hung up on me. The patient called me from the first store abs said the pharmacist was busy giving Covid shots. They directed me to this store where I had the exact same experience. This time 15 min on hold then another 10 minutes waiting to speak to the pharmacist until someone hung up on me again. The recent report holding pharmacies responsible for the opioid epidemic is just scratching the surface. Duane Reade has the pharmacists sweeping the floors and stocking shelves and I just wasted one hour on hold. Please enjoy this collection of elevator music while you slowly die of corporate incompetence and greed
Avoid this location if you canMost staff members are unhelpful, many products are missing and hard to find, no one will come to open the locked shelves. The checkout lines are often busy and you’ll stand in line for a long time. There are much better local pharmacies along 72nd st.The only benefit is the 24/7 opening hours.
The pharmacy here is decent, and isnt the worst Ive had to deal with and the delivery guy is super nice and awesome. The phone system makes it painless to get straight to the pharmacy and the system tells you how many callers are waiting ahead of you, so you can just call back later if its more than 3 people. I usually can get someone on the phone who is helpful. The only problem is if I have 6 RX or something, they wont deliver them all at once. They deliver 1 or 2 and I have to call to get the rest and hopefully its ALL the remaining RX. Sometimes it takes 3 deliveries to get them all.
I typically don’t write reviews but after several terrible experiences here, I felt compelled to do one for this location. Employees and management here are aggressive and lack basic customer service and care training. This unfortunately I is in all departments. In their dermatology products, there is no one there to assist and if you start browsing by yourself, the floor manager will come and treat you as if you were trying to steal something saying “you shouldn’t touch anything unless being assisted by someone”. This is also a FedEx drop off location. I brought my package ready and my label printed out, ready for them to scan and just put the label in the standard label sleeve (provided by Fedex at no cost). The “regional chief” cake to tell me that it is not her job to get the package ready, that I should tape the label (which most likely would destroy to label), and that she is not supposed to buy tape for me (none of these things I asked for). After this, I went to a FedEx location and after dropping off my package, I came back to Duane Reade to give the person in charge and whom I spoke to a few of these sleeves (since she didn’t seem to know what I was talking about and thought that would help her request what she needs from FedEx or DR management) and told me that “she is just an employee” and that her job was just to receive the package. Finally, at the pharmacy, I get monthly refills for a prescription. This prescription comes with a manufacturer coupon that reduces the price from several hundred dollars to less than $50. Every time I come for a refill, they try to charge the price without the coupon, even when every time they tell me it is “all set up for the next ti el. In my last refill, when I told the the pharmacist that the coupon had not been applied, he told me that he knew how to do so but there were no additional benefits to be applied. When I told him I was not going to pay the retail price, magically, the price dropped to about $65.As a long time New Yorker, I really like Duane Reade (I used to go to the location on Broadway and 69 but they closed it a few months ago). It is really disappointing seeing people with no interest in their jobs and a company that clearly puts no effort in training, quality control, or customer care.
I really dont know what it is that indian people have against people of my color and I really dont care but I will be complaining about the man working in the store today . As Im getting my mask out he tells me mask mask I dont know what his problem is. I never go in any store without it. So that was not needed on his part. I would never come in here and buy anything EVER!!!
I live extremely close by and have tolerated this pharmacy for half a year, but no more. I have so many frustrating anecdotes that I don’t know which to share.- Frequent 15+ minute lines- I went to get a flu shot and stood in line for 10+ minutes. I was told to wait in a chair, and did so for another 5-10 minutes. Someone then came over and asked what I was waiting on, and I said a flu shot. Only then was I told that the person doing flu shots wasn’t there.- I went to pick up a prescription they’d alerted me was ready. I got there and it wasn’t ready. I waited off to the side. The line was clearly 15 min long and I wasn’t going to wait in it again. No one ever said anything to me. Eventually I had to cut the line and told them I was leaving for the airport in an hour for an international vacation (100% true), and they begrudgingly gave me my medication. The general case of “my medication wasn’t ready on time” is pretty common. Or if I’d need 2 meds, they’d only have one ready, so I’d have to either wait 15+ min or come back multiple times.- They autofilled a script I didn’t need automatically refilled. When I asked them to remove it from autofill, they canceled auto refill for ALL my prescriptions.- Duane Reade text alerts don’t tell you what medication is ready. This is enormously frustrating if you need multiple prescriptions. They cite HIPAA, but CVS lists the first 3 letters of a script and it’s so helpful. This review is long enough, but rest assured, I could go on for quite a while.
The lines at this store are out of control. They desperately need more cashiers. Pharmacy is very slow and overworked. Its rare to wait less than 10-15 minutes just to check out or pickup an rx. Selection is pretty good since it is a large Duane Reade and it is always cleans. Hire more staff!
Following up what Leo Kaplus wrote. The overnight guy will do anything to keep you from getting your prescription. And mine isn’t a narcotic. He has told me the system was down everywhere in the middle of the night, as another reviewer mentioned, and when I went to the 24 hour store (since permanently closed) by 57th and Broadway the nice Middle Eastern guy had no problem filling the prescription with the system “down”.The last time, and now you’ll think I’m making this stuff up, he went over the years of records they have for me and totaled up the times I’d filled my Rx early, like at 29 days when it should’ve been 30, and told me I had to come back in 5 days. From literally a couple of years ago some of them. Again, it wasn’t a problem at the next Duane Reade up Broadway. This guy obviously feels that he knows better than licensed physicians who spent years learning their specialty and who have spent hours with their patients diagnosing their illness as well as factoring in the results of tests, often interpreted by other specialists. Not to mention the responsible government agencies that have labeled these drugs as relatively safe and effective at the allowable dosages.
Pharmacy commits medical malpractice. I went to urgent care then straight to this Duane Reade on a Saturday night because I was extremely sick and needed a prescription filled. There was one pharmacist attending who told me I could not fill my RX because it was Saturday night and all systems were down, I then requested to fill at another Duane Reade and he said I could not because the computer systems were down at all Duane Reades in every store in NYC.... so I called another 2 Duane Reades when I got home and they had no idea what I was talking about, the pharmacist just didnt feel like working and lied right to my face. Duane Reade should really take care of this and hire pharmacists who actually care about customers and prevent their employees from lying. The next time I need an Rx filled I will NOT be using a Duane Reade, this type of negligence could actually result in a serious injury to someone. Fix your corporate policy immediately.
Will..he would not give his last name..There May 15th 1AM The Grave yard shift PharmacistOne of the mean spirited people you will find in NYC. He had about two novels of info on me for the past 7-8 years. Refused to fill my pain medications at 1 AM in the morning. I was there because I REALLY needed them. I never go at that hour unless emergency...He insinuated I was altering scripts and Doctor shopping.....Even with all the records there to disprove it...SO SAD..Ah the Human RaceLet me add that most of the pharmacists are nice and helpful..thgis guy must have been abused
Very fancy for a normal Duane Reade. You got your beer and chips on the bottom and then you walk up to see a giant selection of everything else, displayed gorgeously for this kind of store. Employees always seem friendly(which is surprising, cause other ones are usually the opposite).

2022-05-27This is a great place to go if you like to wait. The line for pharmacy is always long. And if you’re just stopping by for a cold drink, you’ll probably get the chance to wait for that as well. Just looking for a tube of toothpaste? They keep specialty items like that, or soap, under lock and key to ensure that you have to wait for someone to serve you. They’re understaffed, and the staff they do have are understandably stressed. If you aren’t a huge fan of waiting, perhaps head to Joseph Pharmacy a few doors down.

2022-05-14Pharmacy service has always been professional. It does take a bit of time for them to service customers, but their service is good. My complaint would be to management to add more service staff and not overwork their employees.

2022-07-10Duane Reed, Walgreens, whatever/. Owing to my loss of mobility and finding of 24/7 great pain(s), I depend upon them. When Walgreen bought the DR chain, they closed a magnificent store on the street floor of the building I live in. A big loss for me and fellow tenants. I would give them five+ stars if they could staff the telephones properly, they do everything else quite well , but as I am crippled and housebound, I rely on the phone connection with DR and it stinks to the heavens. I mention it because it is a concomitant of their cheapness when it comes to phone and delivery service.

2022-04-01Can I give this understaffed, disorganized pharmacy zero stars? Nope, one star is the minimum.DO NOT GO TO THIS PHARMACY!!Typically I call in a prescription on the automated line. (They do not answer the phone, ever.) When I have gone to pick it up, they have lost the prescription, somewhere back there in the abyss behind the counter. Once when this happened, it had JUST happened to the guy in front of me. And it wasnt the first time it had happened to him, either!Every time this happens the missing pills get re-filled. Where are all the original, missing pills going? Id bet money there is foul play. If not, there is EXTREME incompetence, like the level that people should have their licenses revoked. The pharmacy is a danger to patients and the community. I have been compelled to go there by my insurance provider.

2022-08-13Right now if you go on their website to order meds online they tell you that the pharmacy is closed. But in fact if you walk in the pharmacy is open. So i went in to pick up a prescription and told them the problem. Then I went online to order again the next day and the problem was not fixed. I tried to call to order the prescription by phone and the recording said they were closed. My wife went to customer service chat with Walgreens website and was told that the the chat person could not contact IT but the IT department monitors all web inquiries. But thats impossible and even if it is possible if the IT department is not aware that the pharmacy is really open for business then they wont know there is anything wrong. I called the store and was on hold listening to music for 15 minutes and decided to hang up. Its time to move to another pharmacy!

2022-07-10Saturday night pharmacist has no customer service silks and is rude and unhelpful. Really needs to find something else if he hates his job that much. CvS in the area has much better people.

2022-05-10Probably the worst Duane reade or pharmacy Ive been to. Without a doubt always a line for the cashier and pharmacy. Also every little thing is locked up so you need to wait for an employee to unlock everything you need. The employees are rude as well.

2022-07-08This pharmacy is a disaster. Was forced to come to this Walgreens because my normal Walgreens was temporarily closed.Their systems couldn’t access my daughter’s prescription because they can’t transfer a prescription from a closed store. After my doctor transferred it, only one of the two medications showed in walgreens system. My wife waited on hold with the pharmacist for an hour only to be hung up on.This has to be the worst pharmacy ever. Avoid this place like Chernobyl. Managememt is completely incompetent and their systems are terrible.

2022-05-10Most difficult, rude pharmacy I’ve ever experienced. Always a half hour wait, and woman at checkout is beyond rude. Waited on hold an hour then was disconnected, and again another half hour and was disconnected. To be understaffed is one thing, but the rudeness is unacceptable.

2022-05-22The card reader is giga broken. i went to another shop five minutes after this and it accepted my card no problem. also, literally everything is locked up, even toothbrushes! so you have to call over an employee to open the cabinet and take the thing out for you.
