Cosme in other cities:
Cosme is an Michelin star Mexican upscale restaurant. Really fancy.Don’t expect the regular guacamole or burritos or skillets here - it’s different but good.I would recommend to celebrate here for a special occasion as it’s place and you will remember.Everything on their menu is unique - so go for it. Portions are small as they are for anyMichelin star restaurant.Drinks are amazing specially the spicy margarita. We had tried 3 appetizers and 3 mains courses here and everything was different and good.I have given 4 starts because I don’t think I can visit the place frequently because of the $$$$.:)
The duck carnitas and the tataki al pastor are my favorite but everything on the menu is just as good. I would definitely recommend the micheladas. They are hard to come by and Cosme makes a really tasty one. I would for sure recommend this place for a date night or a casual
Great experience!!!Everything from the host’ welcome to service at the table, sommelier’s recommendations to one of the best desserts we’ve ever had.It was impeccable experience.. the duck and the desserts are something you should not miss! Can’t wait to return. Thanks to Cosme for making our night incredible.
Cosme is pretty much a New York institution at this point. For anyone looking for refined Mexican cuisine in the city, this is usually the first place on their mind. ATLA is the offshoot but there are better tacos around. Come here for the corn meringue and duck carnitas, and stay for the caramelized banana, octopus tostada and rich moles. Their hamachi “al pastor” was an interesting idea but slightly lacking in execution. Its hard to recreate the maillard levels of well spit roasted pork using fish. Drinks are pretty good, leaning heavily towards agave based spirits (it is a mexican restaurant after all), and the house made tortillas are great for sopping up every last drip of complex chocolatey mole. Its not Pujol, but if you close your eyes you might think you were in CDMX.
Great lunch at Cosme although the teenager at the next table decided to kick off her Golden Goose sneakers and dine in her socks. (Note to rich parents: please teach your kids that restaurants are not extensions of your living room.) Thankfully the food and service more than made up for the faux-“paw.” The waiter recommended the mole ceviche which was the highlight, and can’t go wrong with anything with blue corn tortilla.
The corn husk meringue is the reason I revisit Cosme ($19)Their soft shell crab dish ($30-something) was good, but not mind blowing. Too much lime or vinegar on both the crab and radish. Lime only on radish would’ve been perfect. Duck carnitas are delicious.Great cocktail list ($17-). But better wine list ($16-20)
This was my second time at Cosme but my first time dining in. Had a mezcal cocktail that was well balanced with passion fruit and prosecco I believe. Was eating with my friend and we had two large dishes and one appetizer and it was more than enough. Almost didnt finish dessert. Would come back again even though it is on the pricier side. The sea bass tostada was amazing.
This was my second time to Cosme and it did not disappoint either time. First, service is incredible and very (but not overly attentive). Cocktails are out of this world and layered with flavor. Don’t miss the octopus, morels, tataki Al pastor, or the kampachi- and If you skip the duck carnitas or the corn husk meringue you are doing it wrong. These incredible dishes are just as satisfying the second time around!
Great food from Mexico but do not expect to order a taco plate #3 here. This is the best Mexican food we have ever had. The menu has 3 categories of food. We skipped the first one based on the fact we are not big tostada eaters. Others have told us they are very good, but we cannot say for sure. In the 2nd category we had Potato Tetela with cheddar and caviar. It was fantastic. Nothing like what we expected. She almost ordered another one but our server said we had already ordered too much food. In the photo it is the dish formed in a purple triangle. The sauce was also to die for. I had the Cobia al Pastor. I would call it fish with pineapple and pineapple butter It was one of the best dishes I have ever had. Comes with blue corn tortillas. The fish was sweet and lightly cooked with a super wonderful covering on the skin. I tried it plain and I made 4 tacos with the pineapple butter, cilantro and jalapeno peppers. Words cannot explain how good it was. Again I would have ordered another one but the server said we had ordered too much already. Main course I got the duck which is supposed to be for 2 and she got the brisket. Both dishes served with blue corn tortillas. My duck must have been the biggest duck of all time!!!! I could not believe how much meat was in the hot skillet they served it in. OMG was it good. I ate the skin with my fork and made 10 (yes 10) tacos with the meat. That only took half of the meat. The duck as moist (so was the skin) and full of flavor. Best duck ever including chinese joints. I give this a 10 out of 10 but the brisket I give an 11 out of 10. Brisket was slow smoked with a sweet taste as well. She made 5 tacos for herself and 4 more for me (yes 4 more for me!!!) and I could not believe how good they were. Some avocado sauce on it that was excellent and both dishes were served with 2 sauces that were not spicy but were both super. We had 3 desserts. All were great. Best was the chocolate flan but i suspect most folks would prefer the famous Cornhusk Meringue. My only complaint about the Cornhusk Meringue is that i do not like how hard sugar meringue feels in my mouth. I realize that most people love it and that is why I would recommend it. The inside is crazy good as well. The banana matcha with pecans is also fantastic. I would rate all the desserts we had as 10 out of 10. They do give you some huge chips to start. Try the 2 sauces and order more for later if you love them like we did . The orange one is hot but full of flavor. We will go back here for sure. Insiders note, this place has bad signage so make sure you know where it is before you go. I got a photo below to help you out as well. Loud in here but very fun. Romantic as well but great for groups too. Check out all of our reviews. If we do not like it we do no review it so all of the ones you see are places that are fantastic. Follow us if you like. Incredible. Start with the octopus tostada, the fish al pastor, and you must get the duck for your entree. The duck carnitas can be shared by 2 people, and its the juiciest, most flavorful taco Ive had in years. Save room for dessert though, because the cornhusk meringue blew my mind. Ive never been a big meringue fan, but its so creamy and not overly sweet.
Definitely not the traditional Mexican restaurant. I would go back again for the Duck Carnitas, which is expensive, but more than enough for two people as a main dish and was super tasty, and for the Cornhusk Meringue, which is the made from the stuff dreams are made of. I would skip the rest, as its super expensive but nothing special
Cosme delivers excellent Mexican cuisine with only ingredients from the Hudson valley. It’s modern but doesn’t leave behind hints of tradition. The scallop tostada is a signature of the chef’s style. It is complex in ingredients, yet everything plays a suited role. Dominated by large tender pieces of lightly cooked scallop, the tostada is further topped with avocado and jicama. The pickled cactus provides acidity, and I appreciate the ash for an added dimension of flavor. The fish al pastor is very well executed. The fish is soft and only gently cooked on the outside layer. The flavor of the meat is slightly smokey, which is complemented by pastor. Pineapple slices and a pineapple puree accompany the fish for sweetness. The corn esquites with crab is tasty. They’re both quite sweet and go satisfyingly well with gorgonzola cheese. However, one main difference is that here the chili doesn’t come into effect until the aftertaste. It feels more pure this way - the initial sweetness is not contaminated by spice. The brisket was tender and flavorful. The avocado puree was intense in flavor and overall they were great consumed as tacos. I just wish there were more condiments and salsas though. The cornhusk meringue is lovely. It presents the essence of sweet corn, but it’s conveyed quietly on a plain and sweet canvas of cream and meringue.
What an amazing experience. From the minute you walk in to the last moments inside, the staff has you in mind. As a vegan, I wondered if they would have anything substantial for me. I was not disappointed. The flavors are impeccable, the drinks are delicious. My husband and I will definitely be back.
Unique Mexican restaurant with a high end vibe. The menu has 3 sections and they recommended 2 plates from each section…it was a lot of food. The appetizers were pretty filling (I recommend the spicy guacamole). For the entree, I really enjoyed the brisket which was surprising for the menu but delicious nonetheless. Definitely on the pricier side but generally worth the extra cost.
This is the best food I’ve had in a year of drowning my sorrows in wonderful meals every chance I get. Absolutely awesome. Buzzy and hectic dinning room on a late Saturday night, heightened our attention to the delights of superb cocktail and wine suggestions to accompany fine, fine food from Mexican traditions. “Mexican” as in the actual food of Mexico, and not the Tex-mex fare that usually appears in USA “Mexican”. Duck carnitas blew our minds/-+ absolutely insanely great. Deserts marvelous. Coffee, among best cups of the hundreds I’ve had this year. Wow. WOW.
AMAZING! This upscale Mexican restaurant was everything we could have imagined. From the small plates to the duck carnitas - this place is 100% worth it. Per previous comments - of course it’s not nachos (ugh). It’s amazing food and great cocktails. We had a waiter food and another for drinks. They truly wait on you hand and foot. MUSTGO! The corn husk dessert is out of this world.
Didn’t expect anything less of a place with a chef like the great Enrique Olvera. I am a huge fan of his contemporary cuisine style. I feel like I took a quick trip back home 🇲🇽 not only by the rich flavors of the food, but by the extraordinary service provided by Jhonny, and Salvador (the sommelier). I picked this place to celebrate my birthday but would recommend it for any occasion. I will come back for the tataki al pastor, and the meringue, no doubt!
The cuisine is good although serving portion per plate is a little inadequate for what one pays for. The ambience is a little too dark and too busy that its hard to see the menu, so you see a lot of people using torches to read the menu cards. The service is excellent, however. Its a shame this fine establishment it a little to oversubscribed for how little of a food you get. Best to go somewhere else for a better culinary experience.
Great atmosphere, service is impeccable. Food is good, I just cant in good conscience give a 5-star rating because I genuinely do not get the hype after having had the full experience. This restaurant is ranked as the current best fine dining restaurant in North America. Despite that fact, I cant say I was blown away by any of the dishes -- we followed the wait staff recommendations, and also added a couple of tapas plates.I think its just difficult to truly dress up traditional Veracruz-style street food to a fine dining level (no disrespect to the chefs of Cosme). Because of this, tied to the fact that a dinner costs on average $100-150/person for a plate and an appetizer, I cant go above three stars. That said, if youre looking for a wonderful experience and have the budget, I would certainly recommend a visit to Cosme.
Excellent service. Duck carnitas, mole, and corn husk meringue were enough for two of us to leave very comfortably full (surprisingly). Probably best duck I’ve ever had (and most expensive), all of the salsas that came with it were delicious; just note they do charge for extra tortillas. The meringue is a must order!
Wow!!!! This place is amazing from the moment you enter until you leave if I could give 100 stars I would. It’s a little on the pricey side but so worth the happy dance your mouth will make. The duck is out of this world and great to share as a main dish defiantly try a couple of starter plate like the pastor fish and huarache.. the margarita with champagne was a great drink choose but a good wine would have been great as well. Do your self a favor and treat your self to Cosme..
Upscale and beautiful dining experience, really worth visiting. They really did a good job on the space. The highlight of the meal was the cobia al pastor, the wagyu beef huarache, and the best? The corn husk meringue! It was hands down one of the best deserts I’ve ever had. The mole unfortunately was a miss for me as I was so excited for it :(
This is the best brunch Ive had in a very long time. We had the duck enmoladas (fabulous) enfrioladas (very good), pan dulce (fabulous, especially the chocolate filled croissant), avocado yuzu agua fresca, carajillo (best coffee cocktail Ive had), and a side of tortillas (necessary to finish all the mole). If I had a party of 3 or 4 I would order the same things in addition to the shareable barbacoa which sounded good but I wasnt sure if the two of us could finish it. The overall experience was a lot better than its sibling Damian in LA. I miss the mole so much! 😞
This was my first time eating here and I really enjoyed the food and the experience that bartender ISAAC provided if the manager is reading this I hope Isaac gets a raise because he does care for the guest experience! He was really nice and informative about the whole restaurant itself.
Classy and heavily staffed, the food is good quality, original and nicely presented but I found most of the dishes difficult to eat due to the way the ingredients are combined. The service was a little snooty and the prices are very high. A great place to go if you want to experience innovative cuisine and money is no object
As some others have pointed out, the food is alright for what you pay. You come here prepared to pay around 150 dollars per person so you are expecting something with a wow factor (also considering its Michelin star). The soft shell crab was the highlight but the rest like the duck, burrata and corn meringue were good but not great. I would have expected more for what you pay.
Excellent food. >800$ for 5 people..not sure about it. Perhaps its living in Texas and being used to this kind of great food for a lot less....Ill start tipping our guys at Santa Fe more. The interiors and the lighting was close to perfection. Sadly the music was to loud. I couldnt hear my friends.
Incredible experience here. Lived up to the hype and the service was top notch. The duck carnitas is great, as was the crab Gorgonzola. And while it sounds weird, the Corn Husk Meringue may have been the best thing we had all night. If you are in New York and can get a table, I recommend it!
Honestly didn’t like nearly as much as I thought I would. Especially given the ranking among best restaurants in the world. Specifically, I thought the tostadas were almost stale and much too smoky. But as with anything, it’s a matter of preference. Plating and innovation is superb as it should
The food was incredible, as expected. We ordered a full course of dishes and drinks. We came mainly for the dessert and it didn’t disappoint. However, our waiter rushed us through ordering and ignored us for most of the night. We even had to ask for silverware. We noticed him checking in on and explaining dishes to a large group near us, while walking straight past us and multiple other smaller groups. After dinner, we waited 15 minutes for our waiter to take our dessert order while he stood along the wall nearby talking with other staff and we tried to catch his eye. We had been looking forward to Cosme; it was supposed to be a special occasion but we left feeling like we were inconveniences.
Very disappointing. Reservation for 8:45pm, werent seated until 9:20pm. They did give a free serving of guacamole for the wait. Waiter apologized saying all restaurants are busy due to COVID (huh? I dont remember the last time I waited 35 mins past a reservation) $22 guac that was less interesting than Chipotle. Octopus was bland. Dish with Daikon was ok. Bean wrap was pretty good. Duck carnitas was ok - tasted like dark chicken from Boston Market, but 9x the price. With a bottle of wine and a drink while waiting 35 mins for our table, ended up $150 per person for 3 people. Id definitely rather get Chipotle or roast chicken from my bodega. Reviewers here calling this Mexican food are too scared to go to the hood for real Mexican food.
My wife and I go to many restaurants across the world. After my meal at Cosme I was shocked to hear it is considered one of the best. I was ready to say how underwhelmed I was. We both agreed. We each started with some fresh tortillas and excellent sauces. Complimentary and very good. I asked for a recommendation and got recommended what was effectively a gin sour. My wife got a mezcal margarita. The two totaled to about $40 and were very subpar. I make a lot of drinks and these were fine - not great -and very overpriced. We got octopus tostados next which were quite good. Despite being too heavy on sauce and a whopping $16 a piece, the octopus was well cooked and the dish overall was nice. Next we had the soft shell crab tacos which was by far my favorite. The crunch and flavor was top notch. We followed this up with a mole with sweet potato. This was a very earthy dish. The mole was okay, the sweet potato was interesting - light and fluffy like a soufflé. We finished with the pastor tacos which were just bad. They were one of the more expensive items at $35 and had very little flavor. The pineapple was very strong. We joked that they were starburst tacos. I finished with a glass of the orange wine which was also not good. All said and done we came out with a bull of $240, about twice as expensive as I thought the meal was worth.Overall I would not recommend Cosme. The food was overpriced and did not deliver. There were some good dishes, but there were also just as many misses which is unacceptable at this price point.
The food and drinks are acceptable quality but the male servers are so annoying you need to do something about this. Approximately 10 male waiters are lining up by the wall watching the tables chatting among themselves as if they came to a party or something and they keep asking every five minutes if everything is OK by interrupting your conversation with your date or your wife. The Latin jazz they play is so loud there’s no way you can have a meaningful conversation with the person across the table.Somebody must’ve told them to push the customers to order more food and these male waiters keep asking you to order more by asking you if you want to order more food which is the worst way to market your restaurant.
Great service and amazing food. We had the morels tostada, tataki, and black garbanzo tostadas all very tasty and different. We ended dinner with their signature dessert corn husk merengue that was delicious and unique. Great cocktail menu and even has different choices for non alcoholic drinks. Highly recommend. Parking is available in the street at certain times and there are a few lots near. Bathrooms are clean and well stocked. Seating is comfortable. Lighting is dim.bit sets a good atmosphere. It is very noisy at dinner but its a popular restaurant, so it comes with the territory.
Great service, very goodhaute Mexican cuisine and an unusual wine list that was well explained by the sommelier. There were no expensive drinks ordered and when the bill came, wow, it was mucho dinero. $900 for six people, plus a 20 percent tip we elected to give for the high quality service. For those ill equipped with math, thats $1080. Those beans were mighty expensive, and when they started to grumble in our stomachs it felt no different than those in a $14.99 breakfast burrito. An experience worth having but not, on a regular basis.
Although the space and (the manager) was great, the server training or lack thereof leaves much to be desired. Despite noting on our resy that we were celebrating a birthday we were given the worst dining spot possible, right by the ordering register and staff door getway. Also despite mentioning about my food allergies, the server didn’t mention items on the menu that had the allergens and brought it out to me in one of the dishes ordered. When I discovered it (thankfully had not eaten it) I promptly asked for it to be changed. She never apologized nor made up for it rather charged me for the two dishes (original and replacement). She gave the table next to us desserts on the house but never even came out to wish or show any special gesture for the birthday. Overall, go for a casual evening out here but DO NOT celebrate a special occasion unless you’re ok with receiving sub par service and a horrible table setting to celebrate your day.
What a great experience at Cosme - right from the moment I walked in I was greeted and welcomed by two friendly greeter. As we finished the small talk I was guided to my table. My waiter was very friendly and knowledge assisting my and my girlfriend through the menu with a few recommendations. Throughout the entire service plenty of employees were ensuring the good was good, filling up water, taking away plates and bringing new ones without ever having to ask. The food itself was phenomenal. The tar tar and uni tostada were both great. The guacamole was nothing special though. The must order is the duck tacos. It is the most expensive dish on the menu but worth every penny. Also the corn meringue is a MUST at the end of your meal. The modern twist on Mexican cuisine works, the food is great, the atmosphere is unique - Cosme a must!
My friends and I were looking forward to trying this place for a very long time since it was on the 2017 list of top restaurants in the world. However, we were slightly disappointed. The ambiance is beautiful and the staff is very attentive. But the portions were very small and the price tag was too high for what it was. Overall, the food was good, but definitely not impressed. Will likely not be back.
10 stars if I could. What an absolute beautiful experience I had. Just look at my pictures - now let me tell you this: that was for a party of one: me. Hats off to the chef and her wonderful team. From the food, to the service, to the vibe and atmosphere - everything was fantastic!
We had brunch here at Cosme and really enjoyed our time here. Food is fresh and well prepared. Service is good and our waiter offered many good suggestions and info regarding every item on the menu. My wife loved the plants inside and we both loved the lighting which makes everything photogenic. If I can dine here again, I would really love to try their dinner menu and make some comparison. Well worth the money.
Had a great meal here. Really unique take on mexican flavors. Items are small so can try a lot of options on the menu. We shared a bunch of things and loved everything. Ambiance was really great. Can be difficult to get a reservation but if you do will certainly enjoy!
This place took me by surprise! Love everything here, the food, the drinks and of course the service. Everything is excellent! Our server, Rafael is friendly, polite and helpful. The menu is in Spanish so we asked him for help. He patiently answered every single question we asked. The cocktails are delicious! We had salmon and endives for starter. The salmon had peanuts and a bit of chilli which is unusual but yummy! Endives were so beautiful and tasty. We also had a seafood starter with olive oil and charcoal sauce (?), amazing!Last but not the least, the lamb was so tender and juicy in a pot that is the best lamb I’ve ever had.
I was shocked to find out this restaurant is in the worlds top 50 list! We went for lunch and the server was not very helpful at all. I told him I was quite lost with the menu and whether he can make some recommendations. He basically said everything was good and listed them with some description however it was all very mechanical. It also didnt help us in any shape or form. It kind of went like: Yes the duck is good, fish is too... 🙄 Riiight. So after that helpfulness I randomly chose one dish from each section which we shared between the two of us. Presentation not that appetising and flavours were very average. A good old Mexican is more satisfying than this place. Overall ambience is quite chic and we did have a nice window table but otherwise that was it. Would not bother returning. Not that expensive - just was not particularly enjoyable.
BLUF: Elevated Mexican cuisine inspired by chef Enrique Olvera and made possible daily by CDC Daniela Soto-Innes. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Probably my Top 5 meal of all time. From start to finish this place was simply excellent. To say one aspect of the meal was better than the other would be unfair. The ambiance, service, food, drinks, and everything in between were extraordinary. The space seems dark and uninviting at first. But once taken to your table, the selected lighting makes you feel like you’re the only diners in the restaurant and made to feel even more important by the excellent service. The food was amazing on all fronts. The thing we were most upset by was that the uni tostada was unavailable. But every dish placed in front of us from then on was impeccable. The meaty flesh of the cobia served as the perfect palate on which to impart the bold al pastor flavors and bright pineapple that the pork typically takes. The green chorizo on which the razor clams rests makes for a bright visual palate and a savory medium to carry the seafood. The duck carnitas did not disappoint, except that we had so much food before they even arrived. The warm, comforting smell of the tortillas imparts the hard work it took to make them. Last but not least, the finesse of the husk meringue carries as much weight as the flavor hidden beneath its visual front.I could not have asked for much more from this dinner. The tequila and mezcal drinks were wonderful teasers for the meal we were about to enjoy. The Spanish wine complimented every dish we ate. The service though, made every dish more spectacular than the last. Seamless transitions from course to course made the experience so enjoyable that we forgot where we were and only needed to focus on the food in front of us. This one star Michelin restaurant provided nothing short of three star service. To leave satiated was an understatement.
Food was inventive, innovative but not as memorable as I would expect. It was playful in its flavour combos and presentation and pretty solid all round with some interesting take on some lesser served Mexican dishes but I didn’t feel the flavours smashed it out of the park. The prawn tostada was 10/10 but the Chilaquiles was a bit soggy and mole was way too bitter, love the idea and concept but just didn’t go all the way there and meet my expectations, especially for a world top 25 restaurant.
Food is excellent, love the salad and their toast, duck was tasty and great salse. Churros are too soft and too much sugar to be authentic. Even food was super, the service was aweful. Waiter touching napkins from people in the restroom, the place isnt family friendly, they kept putting families with kids in the entrance small tables even with reservations.
Chef Soto-Innes deserves all the accolades she gets. The restaurant itself is gorgeous. It even has some of the nicest and cleanest bathrooms Ive been in NYC. More importantly, the food was incredibly, unbelievably good! My favorite was the duck enchiladas with mole sauce but the whole table agreed that the barbacoa was the best any of us has ever had. Even the nachos were gourmet and a completely new experience for me. Everything was great, even the cold brew coffee and the BEST churros and chocolate sauce Ive ever had.
Amazing time at Cosme. A busy Friday night service but the service and food was on par with its great reputation and world restaurant ranking. Our servers were very attentive and were quick to answer any questions that we may have had about the menu. The food was served family style and was paced very well, never too rushed and timed very well between the courses.Mexican gastronomic heritage and culture were on full display. A drink from the cocktail menu is a must try, with such an amazing range of tequila and mezcal capitalized with on the nations spirit. The food was wide-ranging and pure with the techniques and ingredients of Mexico but was kept familiar with local and seasonal ingredients.A must try if you come to New York for any occasion, a real gem of the city.
Two of my friends brought me here and I had such a great time. The duck carnitas were amazing, I would come back to eat that by myself. Since there were four of us, we split a few dishes and none of them disappointed. This place is definitely on the $$$ end, but for a special occasion or treat I would definitely return. We also couldnt decide on one dessert so we tried both the meringue and a chocolate option (I forget which it was). The chocolate was my favorite but I really enjoyed the saltiness of the corn mousse with the meringue.
One of the best restaurants we have been to in the US. This place lives up to the hype. Excellent restaurant and the chef is world-class! Food was fresh and well balanced from the simplicity of the tortillas to the complexity of the mole. We truly enjoyed and highly recommend this restaurant to travelers looking for a special place. We were surprised with the a Lá carte Menu. Here is the breakdown of our experience from food quality and taste, to service and overall experience:Guacamole - Very flavorful and well balanced, with a hint of citrus (which balanced the dish well). Highly recommend this as an appetizer.Octopus - Great flavors and the octopus was well cooked. Again, the sauce was very citrusy (which we quite enjoy) and with a lot of depth.Soft shell crab - Surprisedly gluten-free! Again Well balanced. The thickness and depth of the sauce complemented the simplicity of the crab. Would recommend this dish.Lamb - The green mango added a layer of sweetness and “sourness” to the beautifully cooked lamb and provided an extra lingering taste affect. This was served with a volcanic flavored tortilla, which added an earthy tone to the already well crafted dish. Highly recommend this one.Mole - The chef adds to an already existing mole in which adds layers and layers of flavors. If you are not use to eating mole, I would skip this one. Unless you are familiar with Olvera’s process, than try it.Meringue - OUTSTANDING! The best we ever had. Highly highly highly recommend this dessert! The mouse and tart from it is well met by the sweetness of the hard shell. We even got a hint of salt with the intense flavor of corn.Service:Great service, and the server was really knowledgeable. Only negative is the distance between tables (really close together), but if you don’t mind, than it should not be a problem.Overall:We had a great experience and would repeat it again. The atmosphere was upscale but felt warming. Highly recommend this place if you are in NYC and one of the best in the East coast.
Really love this place. The food is always on point and tastes delicious. The guacamole was almost too beautiful to eat! It has these tiny little flowers in it, just so unique! The food tastes like it was made with the best ingredients and you can tell when the food comes out that who ever prepared it really took their time with each and every plate and its presentation. @traveleen_gurl
I haven’t written a review in a long time, but the disappointment brought on by this meal prompted me.The service is fine. The ambiance is decent. Don’t let it fool you. The food is rather bland for the eloquence. Furthermore, the price is unfathomable when considering quantity and quality. A mole sauce (yes just the sauce) is $32. A duck plate is $98. I don’t know how it’s only two $$/$$$$ on google because it’s one of the priciest restaurants in the city — even though Chipotle is better.Overall, the experience was not one that could be justified. As a student studying hotel and restaurant administration, I am ashamed I spent any amount of money here. Don’t make the same mistake. Go to Per Se or Eleven Maddison (or even Mc Donald’s), as the price will be justified.
Nothing was wrong with the food per se, it was all nice, but seriously lacking seasoning, any punchy flavour and generosity. We had to ask for a hotter salsa because the two provided were bland. The worst value for money meal we had in 5 days in NY. Nice staff and service but the food does not match its reputation. The duck carnitas dish? So much hype (watch the youtube process video) but so little flavour. If only the food tasted as good as it looks.
Inventive and delicious dishes. The most memorable thing was the corn dessert in which a salty corn mousse is paired with whipped cream and meringue, all plated to resemble a broken egg. The ceviche was packed with fish and bursting with flavors. I think the price is worth it for things you cant get elsewhere, and the price is honestly not that different from other high end restaurants in the area.
Amazing presentation. Intriguing taste! Each dish was presented so well (sample pictures) that it made for a memorable experience. The taste was interesting, something a little different but intriguing. Definitely kept you hooked and wanting to try more.I should add, as a vegetarian I didnt have any issues in terms of choice - it was sufficient.Id suggest better description of the menu choices. Longer descriptions, how the dish is prepared and some anticipation on the taste.
Creative lamb barbacoa: tasty. As NYC visitors who have well-known Tex-Mex, Mexican, and/or Spanish cuisine at home, Cosme wasn’t a re-visit priority. We enjoyed the dishes we had, but it’s certainly not a match for the price. The lamb barbacoa could easily be 40% less. Unless you just cannot make your own delectable guacamole or find it elsewhere, I’d refrain from ordering Cosme’s guacamole. We’d return if travelling with others that wanted to go, but we wouldn’t go out of our way to go on our own for a 2nd visit.Staff was pleasant and helpful; that I was pleased with!
The food is mostly great! Although expensive, be weary of portions. They are not very evenly distributed. For example, the broccoli tamal is small and light while the duck carnitas are very filling and large! Other than that a beautiful and trendy spot for a great occasion!
The space is beautiful, dark with trendy decor. The cocktails ($17) are excellent. I am a fan of the cocktails experimenting with both mezcal and bourbon together. The food was exceptional. I highly recommend the duck carnitas (though expensive) and husk corn meringue as they were both very unique and delicious.
My lunch at Cosme consisted of starters, main and of course dessert. As for the first two items, I gave the waiter a hint. Seafood appetizer with sea buckthorn, red onion and avocado, an explosion of lime acidity and ginger strength in the mouth, fresh and light, wonderful! For the second corn omelette with spinach and mozzarella with fantastic corn mousse and onion powder, this dish was too sweet and a little boring for me.Cornhuskmeringue dessert, the best dessert in the world! Snow-white meringue ideally dried, with vanilla-corn mousse, sweetness combined with a strong espresso worth everything, brilliantly simple, perfect to the limit ✨.One of the best dessert, it made me happy!Service was excellent!
Delicious, if you order carefully. The one cocktail I had was extremely weak for $19. There is an abundant amount of blue corn tostadas on the menu, yet they start the meal with them. Skip the guacamole, mole with burrata, strawberry dessert. The butternut squash, chanterelle, black bass was delicious. I would only return for the corn dessert.
The service alone at Cosme is worthy of a Michelin star. What a stunning culinary journey.Ventured out of my personal comfort zone and was well rewarded. Aaron helped navigate the culinary experience that day.The braised lamb belly was something familiar but taken to another level. The sliced mango is a perfect finishing detail. The mango neutralizes the some of the pronounced flavors of the lamb belly providing a perfect contrast. The balance between color, texture and taste makes it a perfect dish. The corn husk meringue in something from another planet. The balance between sweet and savory was unlike anything else experienced. The level of consideration and complexity in this dish crescendos into a life-changing experience.
Oh my goodness this place was incredible! Fantastic dining experience all around - friendly, helpful, personable staff, and savory, delicious, unforgettable food. The dessert alone would have had me back, but this place was really top notch on every aspect. But seriously, that dessert, though...incredible.The oysters were fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cleaned. The duck mole was rich and savory. The dessert - oh my goodness. I love all things sweet : chocolate, peanut butter, ice cream - but this crazy, sweet /savory egg dessert is my favorite dessert ever. Hands - down. Game over. It has this light mousse that is complex and flavorful on its own. Then there is the light, crisp meringue shell that manages to also be more flavorful than any meringue has any business being. At first glance it wouldnt have been on my radar (chocolate and I are in a serious relationship) but holy cow am I glad we took the staffs recommendation. Its subtly sweet, delicate but flavorful, and rightfully the signature dish of the restaurant. Bravo!
Good food, good service and good drinks. We had the mushroom quesadillas, burrata, Arctic char, and the churros. The churros and the burrata were particularly delicious and noteworthy. Their drinks are great too, we had a few margaritas and flavored gin and tonics, all of which were delicious! Would definitely recommend.
Jaw on the floor. Everything about this place. The food. The room. The service. The washrooms even! We booked well in advance as we were just visiting NYC for a few days. So glad we came. Cant wait to go back. Unique dishes and lots of great flavour. Havent been anywhere like it before.
Easy to get a reservation at such an highly rated restaurant. This was my second time visiting the place in a week. Would have loved to see them put more of an effort to make my anniversary a better experience. I had informed them earlier about the reason of the visit. The Mexican pizza and the husk merengue dessert were the best. Dont forget to order the aqua miel. Unfortunately, the whole experience lacked the Mexican hospitality that you would get in Mexico city. For being the best Mexican restaurant in the US, I expected a warmer experience instead of a fine dining commercial one.
A good place to celebrate an occasion, ambience is great, staff is friendly but food is just good (not great). We started guacamole, which was a bit different from other mexican place, didnt have onions and tomatoes but herbs. Was very good.We ordered grilled Octopus and Mole.
The food at Cosme was great. We got the Huevos rancheros, Lamb barbacoa and the Pan dulce to eat. The lamb barbacoa was amazing, You make you own tacos and meat really tender. There was a lot of flavorful juice on the bottom of the pot too. My wife loved the pan dulce and was so happy to find a place that has it.I dont remember what we got to drink, I think one of them was horchata and rum which my wife didnt like and they were really good about getting her something else.
Best mole in NY? Everything we had was superb. Poisoned oysters, Herb Guacamole, Huevos Rancheros, and the Duck Enchiladas in Red Mole. Also had a couple of cocktails which were great too. Honestly enjoyed my experience here more than some restaurants that cost 300 bucks a person. The two person tables are a bit close together though, son or exactly the most private of you get seated in the back. I guess we were easy to please on that front.
The food is hit or miss. The guacamole could use more flavor; it looked to be just avocado, jalapeno, and cilantro. I wouldve liked some tomatoes in there at least. But the guac was better compared to the chips. The chips were thin and brittle. The duck carnitas was great. It was plentiful and packed with flavor. The duck was covered with pickled radish, cooked onions and cilantro. Along with the two sauces provided, it made great tacos. My favorite was the corn meringue. Order it. You wont be disappointed. What did disappoint me was how their service is run. When we ordered the meringue as dessert, we also ordered coffee. But the coffee came out way later than the meringue. This was because strangely we didnt have our own designated server bringing us dishes. Each dish we ordered was brought out by a different server who seemed to be responsible for delivering a particular dish. So there was no coordination between the one who brought the meringue and the one who brought the coffee. For a restaurant that charges a lot, I expected a better flow.

2022-01-31Went here for dinner and it was such a great experience. The staff was very attentive and helpful. We started off with drinks at the bar and the bartender Isaac was awesome. He was knowledgeable and made great drinks for us. After a couple drinks our table was ready. Our waiter Omar was awesome as well, he really made the experience there magical. All the staff was just very good and worked as a true team. The food was amazing, the flavors and presentations were spot on and played well with the different taste buds. The duck carnitas was my favorite, the meat was so tender and season well. Everything was really good, I didn’t have not one bad dish. Dessert was the corn husk which was amazing as well. I really recommend this place, it’s a reason why it’s considered one of the best in the world.

2022-04-12Cosme was a really excellent experience; however, as frequently happens, I think the Michelin star really raised our expectations as to what we would get here. We had a great meal, the service left something to be desired, and the atmosphere was quite nice but nothing really special. At a Michelin star restaurant, I expect something to really blow my mind and that sadly didnt happen here. If I got this food at a regular price point, regular restaurant, I would probably give it 4 stars.

2021-12-29Its fresh Mexican food. I feel like Im used to fat being the star. To me the acid is the star. We ended up getting the octopus, potato tetela, mole, duck, and meringue. Octopus was amazing, one of the best dishes. So often french cooking is just thought that it cant be improved on, but that meringue is elevated. The flavor profile along with presentation is top tier. The atmosphere was fun and relaxed. The staff were amazing. If theres a review that says anything negative about the service, I cannot imagine its real.

2022-05-29Had a really high expectations for this place. Service was pretty good but the food was just decent. Nothing bad but nothing really outstanding. For almost a hundred bucks of a duck carnitas I expected more than just roasted duck garnished with onions, radishes and cilantro…

2022-05-08The architecture of the restaurant and lay out makes you think of a fancy restaurant in San Francisco. The service was incredible, very attentive and on point. The food was delicious but there were 3 that stood out to my palette. The Takitaki Al pastor was DELICIOUS, the guacamole was out of this world, and the meringue dessert made me want to lick the plate. The only reason why I gave it 4 stars was because the music was really loud and we couldn’t hear each other at the table. We had to lean in and yell to be heard so that made the dinner experience not as fun. I would go back only to have the meringue again because it was something that I’ve never had before

2021-12-12Cosme was really a great experience. The staff is very friendly and attentive. What I really liked that I was given a completely new perspective on Mexican food. The variety of dishes and the different flavors were fantastic. However I was a little bit disappointed by the wagyu, expected a little more there. But all in all we had a very nice evening and I would definitely recommend to go there.

2022-02-27I’ve been dreaming of eating at this restaurant for quite some time due to the fact that it had a Michelin star. The restaurant was very nice, with a nice ambiance. We were sat at the tables next to the bar and our waiter’s name was Jose. The service by the rest of the staff was incredible, except for Jose. From the beginning his attitude was hostile. I had seen photos of different desserts online, and was asking about them. Immediately, he turned me away and said that “we will talk about that when we get there.” I didn’t realize I wasn’t allowed to ask questions…From the time we sat down, Jose told us to order everything we wanted as soon as possible because it would get busy later and our order would be delayed due to high volume at the restaurant. We ordered promptly as he suggested. The drinks were ordinary; i feel I could’ve gotten them anywhere else. The only plate that stood out was the duck carnitas. Everything else was plain.Jose returned once we finished eating, and brought the dessert menus. We ordered 2 carajillos and the corn merengue. We finished our dessert but continued to enjoy our drinks. Before we were even done with our dining experience Jose had already brought the check and asked us to move tables because more people were already coming in. Despite the fact that there had been other people at other tables that had been at the restaurant since before we had even arrived.Jose made us order everything at once, rushed our meal and brought us the check before we were done. I’m truly disappointed and dissatisfied with my experience at Cosme. What if I wanted to order another dessert? Which I did… what if I wanted another drink? Which I did… I didn’t get a chance because I was asked to move and basically asked to leave. I will not be returning to this establishment; I will not be recommending this establishment and I definitely do not think that the food nor the service deserves a Michelin star. I could’ve gotten a better meal, with a more pleasant service for a quarter of the price. Which by the was a hefty $328 without the tip included…

2022-06-27Wow we were blown away by the food and service. All of the dishes were super delicious, especially the duck carnitas which was wonderfully flavorful and tender. We also loved the tataki al pastor which had an amazing unique taste. The corn meringue is definitely larger than we expected and very filling and rich. We ordered 1 small plate, 2 medium plates and the duck carnitas, plus the corn meringue, and it was more than enough food for two people. The service was incredibly attentive. We would highly recommend!!

2022-03-18This place was intelligently decorated and thoughtfully executed! The shareable plates were delicious. We took the waitresses advice on about 5-6 different dishes. We were more than pleased with the taste, plating and service! So glad we were able to get a reservation and try out this place we’d been looking to try for some time!

2022-02-03Didnt think this place should be rated as one of the best restaurants in the world IMHO. Food wasnt anything really spectacular, but the ambience and service was good. After reading the reviews, we should have ordered the duck, but ordered the scallops (tasty scallops but the citrus was far too overpowering), wagyu, the potato tetela and the cornhusk meringue (which was the one thing that was really outstanding).Overall an OK experience.
