Due to the current pandemic banking has become more difficult. After depositing a payroll check in the only way possible on a Saturday, a holiday, my entire payroll check was unavailable for 8 business days, no one could help me understand why this was happening. The customer service rep I emailed named James, was like a recorded message each time!! I had to take a picture of the check stub in order to even get a small amount of funds released. This was a new policy affective July 1 as was sent in writing at the top of my bank statement from June which arrived in the mail after July 7.Awful experience!!!!
I have been with SEFCU for several years my favorite branch was in Price Chopper in Slingerlands NY. I changed to this branch because I followed a teller Nicki Wheeler she is always friendly, courteous, and professional. Nicki always greets you with a smile and you are greeted by your name. She genuinely cares about her customers! In todays world it is extremely rare to find a bank whose employees are not only professional and courteous but, treat you like you matter and you are not just a number. Nicki Wheeler is the definition of a genuine professional!
SEFCU underwent a significant change to their computer system in the Spring of 2019. By all accounts, this has been a disaster.In our case, my wife and I have/had a joint checking account. We used to receive typical monthly statements of the joint account. After the system upgrade, they no longer send statements based on accounts, but on member numbers. As a joint account, only the primary member receives a statement. In our case, that meant my wife had no visibility on an account that she is supposed to be a joint member on. Further investigation online showed that she does not have access at all.My wife called the central customer service who gave her a run-around. Supposedly, a manager was to call her back. Never did.We went to the local SEFCU office and spoke to a representative. The representative confirmed that we were out of luck and that there have been numerous customer complaints following the upgrade. Apparently, the upgrade and the complete lack of corporate caring have forced this employee to quit their job after more than a decade of work there.We removed all of our money from the checking account that day.
They will find any reason to reject a check so they can charge you a fee. They hold the check for days and then send you a fake copy. I got no phone call. They are a machine that cares about no one. This was not the first time. They did not care that I wanted to close my accounts. Now they are even refusing to close my accounts. Considering SEFCU? Dont do it!
The associate alyssa helped me to the best of her ability to help me solve the issue i was having with the sefcu app. She took her time to call the department that handles those types of issues and she helped me fix them. She was awesome im very pleased with my expiernce with sefcu today

2022-05-16Do not bank with these people. They are the worst bank/credit union Ive ever dealt with. Started charging me fees on my no fee account. Made it difficult to do principal payments on my mortgage. Ive had to call them more often than every other bank Ive ever used combined, to deal with their incompetence or maliciousness, waiting on hold a half hour or more each time. Generally, when given a business decision between benefiting their customers or benefiting their bottom line, they default to their bottom line. The exact opposite of how a credit union should act.

2022-05-17Highly disappointed in SEFCU, as a member through my parents to begin with, I have been with them 20 years now. Never once I asked for a loan or home loan. This past year I felt I should however since they did have great ratings for cars. WELL that was mistake one, I tried in December and never got a call back, instead they left the hard inquiry in my account EVEN AFTER I spoke to a loan expert who gave me the ok... so I took that as, maybe right now is not a good time to trade my vehicle, maybe Ill just sell my vehicle and attempt to buy another few months down the road when that stupid hard inquiry is off. I sold it through caravana..Here we are 6 months later mistake 2,and they are quick to get back to me by DENYING me a car loan due to the fact I have STUDENT LOANS, AND now have 2 buisnesses (self employed husband) ON TOP of me being fully employed... to be honest, Im feeling discriminated right now. And with past reviews, doesnt seem far fetched! Stay away!! I will let all my friends know and I will be taking my direct deposit and money elsewhere..Go give out loans to those who cant afford it... for yall can win!!

2022-05-24Sefcu Albany, beware when setting up personal loans with automatic payments that are supposed to be the amount of the loan. BEWARE they bait and switch you to the wrong amount so you rack up unnecessary bogus late charges. My 3rd personal loan with them should have been set up just as the previous loans with the amount of the monthly payment being deducted from my checking account. JOIN CAP COM INSTEAD!

2022-04-04I went into the bank sat and opened up a mint savings and owners choice account...i had to pay my account off first before opening the accts...the gentlemen in the middle booth helped me...i gave him 38 dollars and said heres the 36 i owe and the dollar to open the mint the other doller goes into the owners choice account...he said ok took my id and social and only opened up my mint savings...wheres my owners choice account...i know i can fix it but if you going to do your job at least do it right.

2021-09-22One of the worst credit unions in the entire united States. The workers racially profiled me twice and they made me go through hell before I could successfully complete an international transaction. They withheld the money that I transferred to my family for over 2 months. It was about$6000 and they couldnt give me any reasonable answer as to why it was held. The investment that I wanted to make all failed because the transfer didnt go through because of them. They couldnt refund my money in full. Very unprofessional workers and bad place to bank.

2021-12-07Customer service and customer experience has really went down as of late. I want to stay with the “small” local banks, but the bureaucracy and “sorry there is nothing we can do” stuff is quite limiting and frustrating.

2020-04-25Never has a bad experience! New system allows me to access all my accounts at once including joint account I share with my husband. We needed to call and get approval for that but customer service has always been good. Ability to lock and unlock debit card gives peace of mind to this scatter brained member!

2021-11-10It really depends on branch. While Latham and Albany are great, the Troy (Hoosick st.) Is a disaster. The drive thru is painful.

2020-12-09As a realtor, I need to have partners that will take care of my clients needs. Kathy Street at Sefcu is my go to mortgage person. She is always available whenever my clients or I need her. She has over 25 years of mortgage experience! Cant say enough good things about Kathy Street at Sefcu Mortgage.

2019-06-30I recently needed some help that I couldnt seem too resolve over the phone due to living out of the area. I happened to be in Albany and met with a wonderful young lady by the name of Q. She quickly handed the situation and somehow went above and beyond and got me the documents I needed in just a few short hours. I am a long time SEFCU account holder and I am always pleased with the professionalism of the employees and the great selection of products. Thank you Q and SEFCU!!!!
