This place is the absolute best! Its family owned here in Brooklyn for generations, which is nice, but more importantly its freaking huge and they have all the things! Walking through the greenhouse and backyard with the wide variety of plants just feels so satisfying. All the pots and planters, and soils, and hardware supplies...What more can I say? Its gray to support local families, its a fun, communal experience. They have gloves and masks at the door for COVID safety as well as social distancing. All I got this time around were some perrenials and a planter to brighten up my fire escape, but I always leave feeling somehow a deeper level of fulfillment inside too. I dunno why, but it feels good. Hope you feel good too when you shop there too! Enjoy
I’ve moved away from this neighborhood but still return to Crest from time to time. Their service is the very best, and the garden center is absolutely beautiful (not to mention Franklin The Pig)! They support many local businesses including nurseries, farms, and seed companies in and around NYC.Some of the standard branded hardware may have quite a bit of a mark-up from what you can find online or at Home Depot, for example, soil and grow lights. However, I am happy paying the premium as it is convenient and I’m happy to support a local business and see them thrive even during a pandemic.
Good local store, has everything you need and very helpful stuff, unfortunately they offer cutting wood service, which they cant really do, my second attempt ( i had the same issue with them before ), and again the piece i brought is completely ruined.Maybe the store has to hire an actual carpenter before offering these services, which are done by some young intern who tried to convince me that using jig saw, before every turn you have to make a hole (no proper training i guess).aside of it, he couldnt even keep a straight or vertical line, everything is crooked. pieces dont fit, edges are wobbly, straight lines not even straight. Even a cut isnt verticalOther option would be just say NO, we cant do it. which would be better then just ruining itNow im facing a purchase of a new desk top. Thanks
One of my favorite spots in the neighborhood, hands down the best for hardware. This store has anything you may need for DIY projects or fixs. Plus the green room in the back has an amazing selection with decent prices. Staff is super friendly and always there to help!
Everything you need for home and garden improvement and repair. A good selection of items across price-points and styles. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Their backyard garden has very well priced plants, and their greenhouse for houseplants is a joy year-round. Say hi to the resident pig and gray parrot!
LOVE this hardware store. All of the staff is so friendly and knowledgeable and they always seem to have what I need in stock. They have a vast plant selection during the summer and sell lumber they’ll cut to size for you if you need it. They also have a wide variety of other things.
Local hardware store with loads of charm! The have a gorgeous garden center and a store full of all of your DIY necessities. The staff is always so helpful and plentiful. This is not your big box store. The care here just hits different.Bonus! They also have a very sweet mini pig named Franklin and a parrot in the garden center.
Incredibly helpful, non-judgemental, and kind! i needed to put up some shelves in my apartment and the employee walked me step by step through the process and handed me everything I could possibly need with so much patience and care! i get stressed in hardware stores because i’m not handy in the slightest but i love crest!! they’re the best, hands down!
A good choice for plan lovers. Convenient inventory location. Well-groomed plants for home and apartment. It is a special pleasure to see a cute phlegmatic pig in the courtyard in a specially designated place. And inside the extension, a beautiful parrot complements the paradise cube with flowering plants. Blooming Bromeliads impress with beauty.
I just love this place so much, and everyone in it. From making keys in the back to getting garden tips and help shopping to just buzzing in and out. There is no service like this anywhere else in Brooklyn. (I work in real estate and interior design so I get around to these spots!) Best selection of products here as well. Biggest shout out to Frank in garden for just rocking my week with some bamboo fencing help! And lovely Patrick who is always so kind (he even saved my car from getting towed one day). This is keepin’ it local. This is community. We thank you a million!
Plants, wood working materials, lights, materials for redoing your entire home? Crest has it all! They have a personable staff that goes above and beyond with seemingly infinite knowledge of everything they sell. Anything more niche you cannot find elsewhere, they have it. If they dont, theyll find a way to get it for you.
Best hardware store. Pretty much always have what I need. Super friendly and helpful staff from front cashier to the back of the store with plumbing and hardware to the plant section area. Half the year they have a sweet pig and they also have a parrot that says hello to you. One time I needed to get a wrench to take off a toilet flush lever and one of the guys let me use two different wrenches of his free of charge to take home and try it to take it off since I didnt really know what I was doing, he walked me through it. Unfortunately neither wrench worked but the trust there is amazing. Ive got Christmas lights there and pumpkins, plants and hardware pieces. Just a great selection and to be honest, relaxing to just go in and get ideas!
Favorite hardware store with a great selection of plants! I always stop by here whenever I need to pick something up for my apartment, but definitely go to be able to look at their plant selection too. The staff is extremely helpful. Home Depot is convenient but why not go somewhere local that can provide you better service?
Let me start by saying I am not a handy person so when I went into Crest trying to describe the problem I has having with my apartment project I was very surprised and happy they were able to completely solve my problem with the suggestions they gave me. I just moved to the neighborhood and can not be more happy that I have a store like Crest by me. 100% recommend!
This family run, neighborhood hardware store is a staple in the neighborhood. In addition to traditional wares, Crest has small gifts and a wonderful garden and plant section in the back. Sleds in the winter go fast. fabulous place to buy your Xmas tree (all the way to the back, past the garden. in the summer, a pig lives out back. Very child friendly + dog friendly too. Super helpful staff.
One of the best business in a neighborhood. I prefer to go there for any of my home needs. Knowledgeable staff and super nice. The guy spent 20 min fixing my kids bike today talking me through process, tools and what can work best! Plus, my kiddos love the parrot and the pig.
Hey, I love this place. Great store. I went here last month for some gardening shopping and my experience was fab.. I forgot the hardware I was about to buy, but I came home with new plants and seeds. The plant garden in the back was rad and its filled with all your gardening, plant, and soil needs. Totally enjoyed this neat place and will come back 👍 They played awesome music as well.
Crest is quite possibly the best hardware store in Brooklyn. The staff is super helpful, they have just about everything, and theres a parrot and a pig to greet you in the garden. If you are a gardener, Crest is your place. They fill their entire back lot with plants in the warmer months and their able to help you pick out whats right for you. You want indoor plants but only have north facing windows? No problem, the staff will point you in the direction of plants that thrive in indirect sunlight. Crest is a wonderful neighborhood staple.
Williamsburg prices. Limited stock. Staff is either super nice or super rude.Plant section is good but again, 3 times the price of anywhere else.Be prepared for the obnoxiously loud music compilations hosted by patronizing announcements on the PA system.Hard to think and make decisions while someone is yelling in the microphone over shrill experimental jazz louder than a gig venue. The parrot and pig in their tiny cages are cute though.
The most disorganized small town hardware store I’ve ever seen, I’d rather go to home depo and anyone who does a lot of work knows what a S show that place is! Also the people who work there 90% have that horrible flippant attitude common in this area. If your in a pinch and are in a good space go for it otherwise this store will make a stressful day worse.
I walked in this afternoon because I needed a screwdriver. I walked out with two bags full of plants, plant food, potting soil, pots and a sort of third-grade-science-experiment glee over my imminent impromptu windowsill herb garden. And a screwdriver. Pray for my plants, and if youre even remotely in the area, pay these folks a visit. They usually have good music playing. They have a pig and a parrot to say hello to. You really cant go wrong.
Amazing hardware and everything store. I have always had an incredible experience except for the time that the salesperson told me that I could use disposable plastic gloves as heat retardant welder gloves; this would have resulted in plastic burning to my skin and luckily I knew better. I have yet to see said salesperson since that experience over a year ago. Also, be sure to visit Franklin in the back 🐷🐷🐷.
Was transferred to the lighting department asking for a simple 34 watt Hologen tube light bulb and the guy on the phone rudely told me no like I was asking him if they sold alien technology. If this is how they treat potential customers I would strongly recommend steering clear of this place. Clearly not your friendly neighborhood hardware store
I wish there were 6 stars - or 10 - or even 100. But 5 is NOT enough. This store is Fantastic! There is a parrot you can play with. Its name is Finley and its like the neediest girlfriend youve always wanted - as soon as you walk away he cries for you. He starts screeching and making the cutest sounds you just have to go back and feed him some peanuts. Anyway, GO HERE. YOU WILL GET EVERYTHING YOUVE ALWAYS WANTED AND MORE.
Lauren Hedland says Crest was mostly good and yet rated this place ONE STAR because they didnt say goodbye to her on the phone. What is wrong with people? ONE STAR should be the worst experience of your life, not reflect your hurt feelings over forgetting a minor social courtesy. Its a great store!
Crest Hardware is an institution in Williamsburg, and invaluable to neighborhood artists. The staff is very helpful and knowledgeable, and theyll totally go out of their way to make your bizarre art project work, even if youre trying to make a hummus-powered motorbike. (Dont miss their yearly art show, and fingers crossed youll visit when Franklin the pig is in residence.)
This is my go-to store for my most difficult hardware needs. Unlike much of the competition, this store is filled with real experts who have been working in hardware for a long time. They can answer most any question you would have. Im glad its still around, and Im a repeat customer!

2022-03-29Whether it’s on the phone or in person, Crest has the best customer service / helpful staff. Today I got a 4x4’ sheet of plywood cut (custom) by the most helpful and knowledgeable staff member, Buck. Thank you so much to Buck and Crest Hardware. Another reason to shop local

2021-03-07I can for the urban garden center and I was in heaven! So many amazing healthy plants with labels and staff to help you out! Even a section of sale plants, and a cool collectors section of rare plants. Everything you can think of from cactus species, air plants, hanging plants, tropicals, marimo balls and even supplies for your plants! Say hi to the african gray parrot right inside the hardware store and hear him meow or making popping sounds! Just a great overall trip, and left with a new plant for my collection!

2019-10-18I love this place. All your hardware needs plus a killer urban garden packed with a huge selection of plants, pots and plant accessories. This place beats Sprout. Excellent customer service, no need for you to go to Home Depot. This place has it all. Plus you get to see the most adorable African Grey, the store mascot Finnley. Talk to him. He meows, cackles, says hello among other things. LOVE! Highly recommended! #locallyowned #hiddengem #hardwarestore

2021-12-25They have gorgeous Christmas Trees except for the fact that they have bugs. They were nice enough though to give me a full refund. So, overall not too bad in my book. I think they just got a bad shipment of trees. The rest of the store and its employees are amazing. So we will go back for everything else except the trees lolEdit: I dont appreciate the response back from the store. They are trying to claim we have termites in out home which makes no sense because we never saw a single bug before or after their trees. We have a new tree from somewhere else and not a single problem. It was one thing to gas light me in the store, but now to do it online is a different story. And I thought I posted a pretty positive review despite my issue with the trees. Guess we wont be returning there after all. Thought maybe they had a bad shipment of trees that month and maybe others were better and we just had the bad luck bu. BUT considering the information the store shared I would be weary of buying any trees or plants, heck anything from them again. What a shame. Happy Holidays!Originally gave 3 stars and now changed it to 1 star

2021-12-19Angus in the back was an absolute pleasure! My friend & I needed some wall anchors and his recommendation was spot on. He took the time to give us a demonstration on how to install them not once, but twice and was very patient & pleasant. Our bathroom project was a success!Plus their garden section is beautifully curated!

2022-02-02Crest is a solid neighborhood hardware store. The staff at the back counter are helpful and they have a pretty thorough selection. As a tinkerer, having Crest nearby has been a blessing.
