I had a bad experience signing up but the staff were quick to make it right. I’m now in my third week and think I have enough info to leave a review. The space is big, roomy, and nicely equipped. The gym runs like a machine and you always know the workouts ahead of time etc. there are frequent classes and the hours are good. The required personal training sessions are good for someone new to CrossFit so that’s nice. The classes are doable for beginners but I have to say, it’s coach dependent. Some of the coaches (brian, ben, Nelson!) are amazing. They’re kind, approachable, generous with knowledge, and know how to make the class enjoyable for all levels. The other coaches I’ve found less helpful. I won’t call them out here by name because I am still an active member and don’t want the experience to get worse. In general, some of the coaches are not as kind to new comers. They are not proactive, don’t demonstrate the exercises, seem impatient or annoyed with beginners, and make scaling the exercises difficult and tedious. They just wander off during class, don’t check in, spend more time with the advanced members, etc. one of the coaches I found outright contrary and almost combative as I tried to understand the workout. So my advice is, definitely come, find the coaches you like, and stick with them to have a good experience.Buy your own Jump rope too, the ones they have there are funky.

Unfortunately they do not accept drop ins. I have travelled the World and this is the first Crossfit box I encounter that doesnt accept drop ins. They did respond to my email quite quickly though. Cannot comment on the quality of the space, workouts and coaches though.

Very big crossfit space. The trainers are great! Multiple floors and different levels of crossfit people can train at the same time. The bad? They have a policy that where they charge you for putting your membership on hold when on vacation. This is a terrible policy.Update: July 2018. They closed the second level so now the space is entirely on one floor. It is very congested. You spend a lot of time trying not to bump into ppl while trying to do your workout. They also increased the membership rates.

Dropped in here for a week while in town for work and am super happy to have found a home-away-from-home gym as Im in the city about once a quarter for work. The coaching staff is very friendly and knowledgable and every member is super pleasant and welcoming to drop-ins. Ive tried another CF gym near Midtown and had a very poor experience so I was very relieved to find a community that is welcoming. I ended up buying a one-week membership which is a great deal for folks looking at multiple days of drop-ins. The communication with staff on membership sign-up was timely and the website is easy to use to register for classes. Looking forward to coming back next time!

Did a 6 month run here a few years, and am now back for about 3 mos. The gym has evolved quite a bit, with a nice variety of programming that isnt all based around heavy weight. Would love a bit more individual instruction, but most of the coaches have a few good tips each session. Also, the Active Recovery class is a hidden gem....really helps not only recovery, but as prep for getting more out of the complex lifts.

When I joined CrossFit NYC about 7 months ago, I was a blank slate. I never went to the gym (okay, I went 2x in my life and was overwhelmed within 30 seconds of walking in) but I was tired of feeling so weak all the time. I can definitely say that I found my home with CrossFit NYC. From the first Elements class, I LOVED my coaches and the functional movements I was learning. I really cant say enough good things about my coaches...every single coach at CrossFit NYC is so knowledgeable, so nice, and so invested in the members progress. My coach knows how much I lift, how much I should be lifting....and for every one else he teaches as well! Thats just awesome. The best part is that progress is so tangible with CrossFit NYC. I feel stronger and Im lifting heavier...and Im motivated to keep getting better!

Ive been going to CrossFit NYC for 3 months and absolutely love it. There are a ton of classes throughout the day with multiple starts time. Classes tend to get full around peak times but if you place yourself on the wait list, you are more than likely to get a spot.Coaches are amazing. I have taken classes with different coaches and they are all great. I recommend Joe, Brian, Chris and Kevin. All are great and bring something different to the class experience. The main location is on 28th street. There are multiple floors with plenty of space an equipment. There is another location on the UWS that is awesome. Its in the basement with new equipment. Last time i was there it was getting renovated but still looked great.Overall its a great BOX with a lot of experienced coaches and great people. You are certain to make new friends.

After trying out a free intro class, I was hooked. The classes are fun, effective, and able to scale to anyones ability. The coaches are awesome and give great instructions on the exercises and make sure you are working hard. Its the largest Crossfit Box in the city and offers a ton of different time options for classes and by ability level. Definitely would recommend to anyone looking to improve their fitness.

Ive been going to CFNYC for a little over a year and it was my first crossfit experience. Im sure everyone has specific things that theyre looking for in a gym and this one checks off all my boxes. My schedule is unpredictable and I appreciate the frequent classes that start early in the morning and run until the latest class at 830 pm. It lets me get my work out in even if I get out late!Ive appreciated the coaching from everyone and love to pick up new pointers when I dont go to my regulars. The equipment is nice, though it does seem that theres a bit less variety in exercises than some other places Ive dropped in. Not a bad thing though because it is certainly still plenty unpredictable, and as always its nice to have some consistency so you can see those gainz. I do think they do fewer long metcons than some other places, but if thats your jam theres always endurance.I love the community here too and even though it is a huge box, I feel that when you go enough you find your people and get to know everyone well. I look forward to going every chance I get and would recommend it to anyone, especially those who need the convenience of frequent classes. Not a small intimate place, so if thats important to you probably best to go elsewhere. Pricing is reasonable, especially if you can commit to the 6 months or year. Overall really like the gym and would encourage anyone to come check it out!

Of the CrossFit locations in the city, CrossFit NYC (Black Box) is one of the most fundamentally sound and nerdy about the discipline. The schedule and amount of classes is massive. There are beginner, experienced, endurance, competition and olympic weightlifting classes. Its one of the few places that put an emphasis on rest and recovery as much as they put on strength and intensity.Ive met some of my favorite coaches here. Its an incredibly safe space for people to try out CrossFit.
