This gym is the best one in the area for the following reasons1. It has 4 squat racks. Seriously I have no idea why gyms don’t have squat racks when everyone uses these all the time2. Plenty of weights up to 90lbs and lots of benches to use them3. Also has machines and a great workout area for stretches and box jumps etc.Overall nothing is better at this price range and the people that work here are super nice too. Highly recommend
The TVs are never working, with the remote in front of the. steps machine . The hand sanitizer dispensers by the front door are always empty. The plus side it’s a pretty big space and well laid out , but there’s just so much room for improvement . Especially for the price they charge. There is never a manager around , get your act together guys
Adam Bansak has been my personal trainer here over the past few years. Very good to work with. Whenever I slip up and stay away from the gym which happens to a lot of us, he gets me right back on track. I highly recommend this gym, clean plus no lines and no time limit on your stay.
I was with crunch for more than 2 years. I am taking out my previous rating because of the way the manager there handled my membership. He never answers calls but the front desk will give his email ONLY. They don’t reimburse the money inspite of your cancellation and tell their illogical rules just to make money. Highly unprofessional communication and false promises. Canceling membership here is a big pain. My friends in the gym had similar experience. They dont care how many years you been with them. They just need money to make this covid situation as convenient to them as possible. I wouldn’t recommend here for their pathetic communication unprofessionalism.
The gym is large with great equipment. However I give this location only 2 stars, because they seem not to care too much about the privacy of their Male members. The Biggest Problem that I and many other members have is this Gym allows Female Staff to enter the Mens Locker-room any and all times to pick up used towels and to bring in fresh ones. Thats Correct: Women Staff are allowed into the Mens Locker-room while men are walking around in the nude. Also the location of where the towels are placed gives anyone that enters the Locker-room and easy view of Naked men in the shower and an Absolute view of Men relieving themselves at the Urinals. This is totally unacceptable, and total hypocrisy by Crunch Fitness. Because they will not and dont expose any of their Female Members to such an invasion of their Privacy. -The Womens Locker-room is tucked away in the back, and no males are allowed anywhere near it. -Hows that for a Double Standard? I amAlso the entrance to the Mens Locker-room is a Absolute Joke. Anyone can see inside the Locker-room from the gym floor. I have brought this to the attention of various Managers, whom they seem to change frequently, and to the District Manager, but nothing has been done about it.
This place use to be a 5 then they closed the steam room (steel door and all...), raised prices and it managed to get dirtier with no upgrades. Most people left for Equinox or crunch on 23rd that has a clean locker room and better towels. The nice thing about this gym is the number of squat racks for leg day. Otherwise I would recommend 23 or 59 th crunch that have better facilities, clean locker rooms and actual towels compared to the old thin ones 54 offers you. Its disappointing how quickly this place went down hill in less than a year. The pictures show what the locker room is typically like and this was on a slow Saturday afternoon so clearly no cleaning people had been in there for hours...
Rejoined this gym A few days ago after going somewhere else for a few years!I actually like the variety of équipements that they have at this gym and that’s really all I personally care about.Unfortunately the music is blasting constantly and very annoyingly that it’s almost impossible to listen to your own music without being literally deaf.I’ve mentioned it a few times and they seemed to be very aware of it but my understanding is that this is how they want it.Personally I’m not sure if I will last after 1 monthI really like the équipement but the loud annoying music is driving me nuts.
The person at the front desk was not friendly to me when I wanted a 3 day pass.... you would think they need to be nice to get my business? She didn’t even show me around the place so I’m pretty sure this sun deck that they advertise on the website doesn’t exist. I can’t say anything about the classes but it is a pretty standard gym and definitely doesn’t seem like it’s worth the price you have to pay... the spa products in the shower kind of smell nice but aren’t that great really. I feel like you might as well just splurge a little bit more and get a MUCH more luxurious experience at Equinox
I have been coming to this gym location since 2001. It used to be called Prescriptive Fitness, then turned into Golds gym, and not it is Crunch. Not much change in overall layout over the years. The staff is friendly and the place is rather clean. They have all the usual variety of cardio and weights and some great classes. In the past year it seems that membership or at least attendance is way down, which means it is rather easy to get onto any machine or bench in most hours of the day. The flipside is that it seems that they are not fixing broken equipment with the same speed they used to and the maintenance in progress sign sometimes sits on certain pieces of equipment for months. Still, a good and user-friendly gym overall.
Choice this fitness center just for convenience. Will stop the membership because they broke my lock and took out all my stuff there without any notice. The overnight storage is 30 dollar. There is basically no advantage at all except for the location. No good trainer either.
Convenient location, but poorly managed.i just got rushed out of my shower by the staff insisting that i get out of there within 2-5 minutes. This is in the middle of business hours, just so they could get some guys in the women’s room to scope out the space for renovations. From a paying member: a previous e-mail, even reading an inconvenient sign on the door, would have been better than being shoved out of the shower 4x.totally agree with previous reviews: Crunch 54th street is definitely one of the “dumpier crunch locations.”
Fair equipment, you get what you pay for. Facilities also what you would expect for the price. No bumper plates, platforms or free chaulk. Showers/locker rooms are decent. Not outstanding but for 90$ a month it is a good value. My major issue is there are trainers who constantly approach you interrupting your workout to try to sell you personal training sessions. If you are firm and tell them to get lost they normally leave you alone.
Music selection is always off. Nice smoothie bar (they since got rid of it). Staff not especially nice. Small steam room (also gotten rid of).Now changed over to a more CrossFit direction which few needed or use.Rates are getting far too high against the competition which now beats them in features, amenities and value.I have now left Crunch because 110 a month is ridiculous for the lack of value it gives.
I give it one star just because of the management. They dont know what theyre doing. The mens locker rooms steam room has been closed for 3 weeks and was supposed to be working today. In the three weeks I saw no change to the steam room other than it was just off. I was hoping they would take out the wooden benches that have nails sticking out the sides and on the verge of collapse, but no. Who puts wood benches in a steam room? A dry sauna, yes, but not when they are gong to be wet 15 hours a day. Anyway, I called yesterday and the girl at the front desk put me on hold and then told me that yes, the steam room would be on today, June 1st. I arrived today and nope, still not working. While I was there I called the front desk to speak to the manager and was put on hold for 4 minutes while the guy at the front desk (who spends more time on his mobile then doing anything else) tried to locate the manager. He said he couldnt find him and then he said he just walked in the door, I said great, Im upstairs waiting to talk to him. Guess they guy at the desk didnt realize I was in the building because all of a sudden the manager had a client and couldnt talk to me. I tried to find the manager on my own because I want a refund because this is the only location that Im a member, but no one knew where Keith was, it was like Whos Keith? This is just the latest issue. In the past month alone Ive had the laundry lady take a break and watch the TV news over my head while Im trying to work out and the older guy who teaches a spin class take a break and sit with his little computer and read and relax two bikes down from where Im working out! For over two years that Ive been a member there, at least 20 days a month Ill go there after work to find no towels in the locker room. Thats ridiculous. They cant figure out how to keep the towels stocked in the mens room so the men dont have to go into the ladies locker room to grab a towel? Ive had to walk out half naked, go to the laundry room in view of other members working out to get a freakin towel. Way to treat your members. You guys are rockstars, thanks.
They are sneaky, I canceled my membership in August and post a block on my cc. This was during the pandemic. They charged me in October $306 from a 2nd bank acc that they are using. This is stealing and you should stay away from Crunch. I already disputed the charge and I will get my $ back.
No sauna or steam room (they just permanently closed the steam room). The place is a mess, dirty, all towels are thrown around, the bathroom is not clean. Its amazing how each crunch location is different, the one on the upper west side or Chelsea is so nice. Anyway, I signed up to crunch for the sauna and this location has nothing.
My experience with Crunch Fitness at 54th street lasted 6 months. I love the trainers and friendly front desk staff, but the careless, defensive GM and and other management staff leave me unsettled. The facilities are lacking in performance and cleanliness. I have spotted cockroaches and other pests on occasion on the weights floor. Keith, General Manager, comments, you are a liar... must be crazy or something. I asked specific questions about how machines were cleaned at what frequency a day and how the walkthrough procedures were conducted because I was a manager of a fitness center in SF, CA, and I was met with a long list of reactive comments of what I do wrong with my workout practices such as usage of chalk. I see no where on my contract nor any written rules anywhere prohibiting use of chalk. I was not heard. The response did not pertain to my questions, rather a petty childish conversation ensued in a he said she said fashion, regarding an interaction with my partner and a trainer. Look at the amalgamation of reviews attesting to poor facility maintenance and lack of cleanliness. Keith says, Machines are cleaned once a day in the morning. Peak hours are from late afternoon until night time. My partner very well may have contracted conjunctivitis/staph infections from the dirty machines, and management is more concerned with us uttering the word douche referring to when my partner was followed around the gym by a trainer harassing us to re-rack weights before we were done with our circuit during the slow hours of the gym. There were identical squat racks 10 feet away not in use. My questions were halfway answered and the General Manager decided it was the best solution to have corporate call us and revoke our memberships. Not once did he offer to check in with staff or offer to have more routine machine cleanings. This was funny to me because he first told us during the beginning the conversation that there was no corporate number for us to call. Shady, we called our old Crunch in LA and we got the number right away. Corporates HR department has a full mailbox, go figure. We will be charged for a whole months worth of membership for something unused. Legally, that is called impossibility of service, which is grounds to terminate our contract. Seem like a scam? You decide.
Definitely one of the dumpier crunch locations (23rd St is way nicer and e 59th is way larger), but probably the best option in HK.Pros:-lots of weights-natural light-fairly clean-large floorplan-great music (I swear their playlist is called 30 something gay men)Cons:-Very crowded at peak times-AC doesnt seem to work on the top floor, so hot!-generally dumpier than others crunches in the city. The whole gym needs a renovation-thin towelsMy short review of other options:-Planet Fitness - cheap, large and clean but not enough weights and no towel service-Mercedes Club - fairly small and crowded and too expensive for one location-TMPL - no natural light and not that nice considering the price and one location-Equinox (Columbus circle) - even more insanely priced and way too crowded-NYSC - dumpy and dirty
Crunch has great classes. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this spin teacher named Reign! She is very motivating and super fun. Its like a party in her class! My 2 friends and I stalk her from midtown to BK!!! Like many women, I struggle with cellulite on the backs of my legs...Reigns class at 54th has made it go away. Cause she does this cool thing with the pedals.
What a disaster of a receptionist at your front desk tonight. Clearly Hates his job or significantly underpayed. I was considering leaving equinox since you guys are closer to my apt but who ever was at your front desk tonight helped my make my decision a breeze. Would never ever set foot inside this derelict gym
🇪🇸Good gym, good facilities ... variety of machines, all perfect ... not very crowded, which surprised me in the area. 100% recommended for training in the city center. The one in the photos is me training there. instagram: isaacibiza🇺🇸Good gym good facilities ... variety of machines all perfect .. not too crowded thing that surprised me in the area. 100% recommendable to train in the center of the city. 2022-07-24The gym is cool, great equipment. The only con is some of the trainers are loud mouths. Like to make comments about members under their breath while people are walking away.A good trainer has no need for a tough guy attitude, or inflated ego. Outside of that great place to train while in NY.

2022-07-19Pretty compact sized gym that has everything you could need! Service is decent and the equipment are kept clean for the most part. The instructors that teach the group fitness classes (included in the membership pass) have incredible energy!

2022-04-27A perfect example of lack of re investment. Rarely is there hot water for showers in the mens locker room. The turf’s equipment is lacking and continues to get worse. 1 medicine ball? No bands? Ripped mats, old bent foam rollers. Trainers treat the gym how it looks- Poorly. Also no towels in the mens locker room you have to go to the gym floor to get them to shower. Makes no sense. If you want a nice gym experience join equinox.

2022-07-17Great gym, clean with a good selection of equipment (4 racks, 3 benches, plenty of cables and machines for accessory work). Gets a bit crowded during peak hours, but I can usually still find what I need for a workout.

2022-08-04UPDATE - Corporate did nothing in response to my post.Misleading and unauthorised charges. Mislead you to sign up for automatic monthly charges such as a PT sessions that you never agreed to. How did a few PT sessions turn into monthly charges? Refused to refund for charges not authorised and training sessions not provided. A basic rule of consumer law is that you don’t pay for services not rendered. When you point out the charges, it’s met with hostility and poor customer service. It’s exactly like the overcharging New York Sports Club saga. “Must provide a months advance notice to cancel and must do so in person etc etc”. Watch out when you sign up for a PT session and check your bank statements regularly to avoid unauthorised charges.

2022-01-18Warning: This review includes an account of harassment from staff.I have spent 5-6 days per week, ~2 hours per day at this gym since October 2020. Ive always felt Crunch was very much you get what you pay for, with the grim ambiance and overcrowded floors being features of the cost. Today, however, reprehensible behavior from an Operations Manager led me to cancel my membership immediately.Every month, I pay a subscription fee such that I may enter the gym during business hours, complete cardio and each of my 10-15 minute exercises, and then go home. When I need a machine in use, I wait patiently nearby and angle myself away from that person out of respect. After a great deal of uncomfortable confrontation and harassment, a member decided to complain to management that I, in his subjective view, was not using machinery sufficiently as to warrant its continued use and that I should be forced to move. In other words, the member wanted me to move immediately because he was impatient (again, to wait for no more than 10-15 minutes). The Operations Manager, clearly not having read through the membership agreement, determined that aggravated harassment from another member is not only acceptable, but his sentiment is enforceable, and so I was receiving harassment from both an ornery member and staff. This is entirely unacceptable from every perspective. I requested my membership be canceled, to which the manager had no qualms, and I have proof of cancellation in my inbox along with proof that I will not owe any further payments, as my final month was paid up front in 2020. Ill be changing my credit card number to be safe given the reviews here regarding unwarranted charges. No customer service; no customer retention. There is no place for harassment of respectful gym members going about their business as quickly possible. Good riddance.

2022-06-15On July 20th at 3 PM, I was verbally attacked and disrespected by this member in the photo for no good reason. He wanted me to leave a machine that I had just started using. I reported him and I hoped Crunch would enforce its policies and make it right by me taking the appropriate measures to avoid his violent behaviour from happening again. It was a stressful situation. A gym is not a place for violence and people aggressively yelling cursing at anyone. Unfortunately, Crunch did nothing at all.Update: it took me a while, but I decided to cancel my membership. Crunch comments on reviews pretending they are going to make things right, but no one answers the email address CrunchMS@crunch com. Their reply is just for show.I do NOT recommend Crunch.

2019-03-13Great gym in a convenient location. And the new upgrades are awesome! Not a meathead gym with people trying to pick you up or slam down weights. Everyone is into their work outs and good at sharing when you need to use equipment. Highly recommend!
