I had an amazing experience here at Crunch fitness on Fulton street . It was just a great approach from the associate at the front reception to this helpful and very professional General Manager that I met . I loved how he introduced himself and the way he gave us such an warm welcome . His name isEric Panivilov and I was amazed with such great customer service and the way he promotes the quality image of the company , he made me feel at home , gave me and my partner such a welcoming vibe, escorted us through the gym and was so perfect with his presentation , he just got us to start 2 memberships within minutes !!! He is so good at what he does for a reason he is the manager . I cannot wait to start my experience there with such a clean and safe environment that fallows all the protocols of safety and hygiene, especially throughout these crucial times we need a place to feel safe and comfortable. I love all the amenities!!! 🙏💕
Do NOT go to this location. Honestly, the interior and equipment are fine for the most part, if maybe slightly cramped and dark. The customer service, however, is terrible. Due to some paperwork mishap when transferring my membership, I was being charged an extra $20 *per visit* in addition to the monthly fee. I easily had several hundreds of dollars in charges racked up over months, and I was told every time I inquired theyd be removed. Months later, they canceled most of them, except for the ones incurred in the second month. When I asked about these charges, they kept saying there was a delay in transferring a membership, so these charges were valid. I argued I was told the delay wouldnt be an issue starting the next month after I joined, but they said it was just an estimate, and in fact it took an *additional month* to process, which I was never told about.I was told the first day to not come in until the next month because of a possible delay, which I did, but still got hit with these charges. What was I supposed to do, keep paying for a monthly membership and call in every day to ask if it was safe for me to come in? I never got a confirmation of my transfer, either in person or in writing. I ended up paying almost $100 in these fees and cancelling my membership.DO NOT GO HERE. Your workout experience might be fine for a while, but as soon as an issue arises, youll wish you went someplace else instead. If you dont believe me, thats fine -- just read any of the other reviews of people who were slapped with fees and poor communication from the billing department.Ive been to another Crunch location, and I actually really liked it. Ive really got nothing against Crunch itself, but Ive been warning my friends and neighbors in the area to just stay away from this specific location.
Been going here since I moved to the area in early 2018, and I really missed it during COVID. Best part of reconnecting last spring was treating myself to PT sessions with Roger. Hes the best! Knows how to motivate, when to push, and when to back off. Hes as much a teacher and mentor as he is a trainer. The facilities are solid, the place is clean, and the staff are always friendly. If youre looking for a local place to workout, this is the spot.
I think many of the reviews here are fake or written by Crunch staff. My experience was awful. The staff is totally out of it / don’t care about what’s going on. The gym had decent equipment but it was not clean and very dated. And on top of this, the gym tries to charge Classpass users an extra fee (requires a 20-minute argument with the manager to get out of it). The environment here is just not that friendly. I would only go here if I was desperate for a workout and had no other options.
I cancelled my membership due to COVID-19 concerns and was charged monthly dues a month after cancellation. I contacted my account manager 8 times to receive a refund and I never heard back from him. I called the location twice to explain and ask for a refund, which I still have not received. When I asked how long it would take to issue a refund, they told me they didnt know. Crunch is a chain gym with locations across the country - there should be a standardized process for this, and they should know how many business days this will take. They should be looking into why I was charged in the first place and assure me that I will not continue to be charged, despite having ALREADY cancelled my membership. Especially during the pandemic, being charged extra money for a service I am not using is an unnecessary financial stress. The lack of professionalism is truly appalling, and I would never recommend this gym to anyone in the area. Blink has better customer service, and its a minuscule fraction of the price.
Worst gym ever. Avoid this place at all costs. I also was charged when i wasn’t notified (they sent an email that went to spam) and now they want me to pay them when I lost my job and my income. I’ve been going there for over 10 years and this is how they treat their customers?! Not to mention when I did go there the “trainer” area is the entire gym you’re always in THEIR way. Pay a little more and go somewhere with better customer service and is more professional.
Folks/business the gym equipment itself is great, with a lot of different rooms/facilities/machines.I do agree though the layout on the lower floor, with machines is cramped and difficult to maneuver.I personally have a big problem with the showers, they remind me of blink which sucks given the cost of 80 v/s 25. Curtains, no baskets inside the shower, no hooks for towels (like the hooks are all on the opposite wall!).But if you just come in workout and leave, you are good. I avoid taking a shower here.
Perfectly fine as a basic gym in the area, but far outdone by other Crunch gyms in the area including Park Slope which is just a few blocks away.Cons: too expensive for what you get especially if you dont use classes. Space is very cramped, temperature is usually way too hot, locker rooms are adequate but nothing special and few showers, towels are basically hand-rags which is a bit ridiculous.Pros: Helpful and friendly staff, free classes
The gym itself is fine, my issue is with the billing department. When I joined they accidentally added my credit card to another members account (in addition to adding it to my account) so for the first 3 months I was being double billed. When I tried to get this fixed they told me that it was not an issue even when I was showing the double charges. They only paid attention when my credit card company was involved. After that every month they added an extra fee to my monthly charge. It took me 2 months and 6 attempts to reach out to customer service to get them to even respond. They owe me $60 in unfair fees.If you have any type of billing issue it is really hard to get crunch to help you. I do not recommend this gym for that reason.
My experience is great here, very hospitable. Im always greeted when I enter. When I signed up I got an awesome discount through my job. The place is always clean and the weights are in the right order. Ive been to some places and there is no gym etiquette and it makes me fustrated during my workouts, but Crunch is very upscale. The personal trainer are all very friendly exspecially Carissa, who helps me when I need with advice or a spot. Overall this place is a 5 and I would recommend to others.
Decent enough gym, trainers used to be good but they’ve apparently let their standards slip lately. Weights room is pretty meh - free weight equipment is sub-standard, I’d expect much better for the fees they’re askingMaybe now Chelsea piers has opened they’ll up their game a little.
I really cant stand crunch and unfortunately ill be a member for a while longer. Ive been to a few dozen gyms in my life and I think i can confidentially say this one is the worst. Crunch in general is small and overpriced, leaning on classes to justify membership, the tribeca gym may be worse, but its all bad. Its just predatory.the gym itself is really small. Its worth maybe $15/mo but youve gotta factor in location (nyc$$) and classes. But its still really hardto imagine how to justify the price point. Like, how? the weight lifting area is super cramped and very unpleasant. the music is awful. the lighting is awful. The gym itself is just sad and miserable and poorly designed. definitely not worth a membership unless youre really really into classes and will do only that. Classes in nyc run a fortune so only in that contextis crunch worth it. Otherwise, its super friendly and kind staff. in a great location. never that crowded.I was unfortunately in chicago recently and paid 40 for a week membership only to learn that its 45/mo. 8 squat racks. Tons of equipment. Multiple floors. Big locker-rooms . it just made me sad. I mean, is nyc really that expensive that a gym 1/6th the size charges double? There is nothing in this gym, they barely have the essentials.
Inadequate. It’s a low amenity gym that charges like a much nicer gym. It’s trying to do too much in too small a space and is terribly laid out. There are not enough weights (and what is there, is scattered across 3 oddly laid out areas, on two floors) and there is only enough room in the stretching area for 4 people at once now; they recently expanded the TRX space, which is just a trainer gimmick as far I’m concerned, and in the process got ride of half of the already meager stretching area. There is a clique of meatheads who constantly stake out 4-5 stations at a time and give you the evil eye if you dare get too close, but they are apparently friendly enough with the management that they’ve never gotten the boot despite many complaints. There are too many trainers for such a small gym and they tend to take up way more than their fair share of space; they regularly block walkways and doorways and regularly put their super-setting over everyone else’s bare bones access to the equipment. Also, the roof leaks, the heat and plumbing always seems to be on the fritz, they constantly run out of hand towels, the lockers are tiny and constantly broken. For some reason despite being cramped and not really covering the basics very well, it has a day care; I’m sure it’s convenient for the few parents that seem to use it, but when the gym only has one of many of the basic weight machines/free weight benches, it seems like a poor use of limited space (perhaps work on being a gym first and then branch out to other services). Basically, unless you’re paying extra for a trainer or only take classes, you won’t get the full value out of a membership here, which is now almost $100 a month. Oh, and they keep increasing the rate every year with no notice.
Well... Classes are fun, though often packed and you are likely to not get in if you are not there way ahead of time or didnt do online reservation for the popular ones. In a yoga class your mat will be immediately next to the other guys or gals and the droplets of your and their sweat will have a chance to join into one happy yoga puddle. Personal training can be hit or miss, and so can customer service. Basically, if you are there just to work out, no issues. If you need your membership frozen or training sessions postponed, it might take a series of nasty emails to get things done.
The locations great location, there’s all the equipment you need : free weights, machines, stretching area, the gym is very complete but it’s overpriced, around $85/month or higher depending on the type of membership. It’s a great option if you go to group classes such as spinning etc but if you prefer to do your own stuff I would consider going for a cheaper gym where you don’t pay for classes.
Fun workout gym, but music is too loud. Plenty of equipment and this gym has extras: lockers have a full stock of q tips, lotion, hand soap and tampons. Showers have shampoo and conditioner in each station. Gym has a vibrating massage ball and a vibrating roller foam you can borrow after your workout if you need to soothe your sore muscles.
Moved to Brooklyn for 2 months for work. I paid for first and last months upfront (2 total months). Explained that I was moving again and only wanted 2 months of membership. They said my first payment would cover everything and was good to go.I looked at my credit card statements and had 2 monthly rate charges. I brought this up to the staff and asked for a refund for those 2 since I had already paid for 2 months at signup. They said there was nothing they could do since I didn’t fill out a “cancellation request form” on time. This was NEVER disclosed to me at signup and I had never heard of needing this prior to this point. So now they’ve shafted me out of $120 and I’ve basically paid a double monthly rate. Do not recommend.
Terrible experience!! They will promise anything so you sign for their trainer sessions, including additional sessions and a trainer program that sounds dreamy, but in reality is poorly organized. My girlfriend signed for four trainer sessions and in the period of two months she had theee cancellations with no prior notice form her trainer. The guys who sign you to the program seem super friendly, but do dont be fooled they are there to make money and sign you to as many trainer sessions as they can. They they will forget about you.As for the facilities, the showers have fungus, the bathrooms are poorly maintained and half of the machines as broken all the time.
I like the gym. It is nice. I came in on Saturday (memorial day weekend) on a guest pass to try out the Yoga class (8:30AM). The class was OK. It would have been much better had the other guests been considerate and keep their loud conversations down. It was hard to focus because the guests that were not attending the classes were LOUD.Additionally, since I had a guest pass I had to provide identification to the front desk staff. After completing the class and a cardio workout, I went to retrieve my ID from the front desk and they lost it. Like flat out couldnt find it. I stayed there for about 15-20 minutes while the staff searched for it. They were really apologetic, but it was simply unacceptable to loose someones ID, especially when it is illegal in this country to walk around without a govt issued ID. They eventually found it OUTSIDE on the sidewalk in the gym. A great place for it right? When they called to notify me that they had located my ID, the manager made no attempt to compensate for their mistake (an additional guest pass, a free spinning class, etc.) and didnt offer to stay open a bit later to give me time to come and pick it up. She just simply stated that I could come in the next morning to pick it up. You would also think that someone would have notified the person in the morning that I was coming to pick it up. The girl had no clue what I was talking about and I had to go through the box myself to pick out my ID. Horrible customer service. I guess its NYC.I will NOT be going back this gym even on a free guest pass. I had high hopes for this place, as it is a very nice gym with nice machines and a good gym crowd.
The Fort Greene location is a friendly, clean gym where the staff are well-trained and eager to help. I just finished my third training session and am thrilled that my clothes are fitting better and Ive resolved pain and weakness in my hips. A shout-out to Carissa who listened and focused her sessions on my goals exactly.
Over 2 years after I cancelled my membership, they continue to spam me promotional emails even after I have asked a dozen times to be removed from their email list. They were also a huge pain when I tried to cancel my membership, telling me I had to wait and talk to a manager on the phone and repeatedly grilling me about why I was cancelling. Pisspoor customer service.
Horrible personal training program! Signed up in April, had two trainors quit after one training session each and currently without a trainor for more than a month, and by the way those very expensive sessions do expire. Tried getting in touch with the manager of the personal training program, Christine Solidium by phone and email, has yet to respond... I’ve heard every excuse from she’s in the bathroom (after being on hold for more than 10 mins), to she’s very busy, to she’s sick, from the sales personnel.... unbelievable, once these people get their money they really don’t care and their policies does not mention any redemption for their lack of providing services. Buyer beware....
I have used the facilities in the past. I was driving by and decided to stop as I was in need to use the restroom. Young last at the from desk (Jennifer) was adamant about not allowing me to pay even after I offered to pay...i will certainly attribute this to horrible customer service.
The personal training program is beyond pathetic. They are unprofessional and do whatever they want. I requested to not do a specific exercise which they did anyway. There scheduling is disorganized, rude, and snobbish. They do not know how to treat customers. DO NOT TAKE A PERSONAL TRAINER IN THIS GYM!
Pros:- During peak hours, not as crowded as Crunch locations in Manhattan- Equipment is generally in good, working order- Boxing equipment (heavy bag, uppercut bag, speed bag, double-end bag, gloves, striking pads)- Sauna- Friendly staffCons:- Some classes can be packed during peak hours (book ahead if possible)- Could use a renovation to match the quality and appearance of Manhattan locations, especially the showers and lockers- Harsh, fluorescent lighting everywhere feels unwelcoming and off-brand

2022-05-13I’ve been going to this Crunch location regularly for about 6 months. The layout of the space is a bit odd (I.e. there are free weights in the basement and also upstairs; several different stretching areas as opposed to just one), but I kind of like that because it makes it easy to always find a space to work out.The staff keep the gym quite clean. Occasionally machines will be out of order but never for an inordinately long time. The staff are very friendly. Overall a great gym.

2022-04-27My home away from home. If I could live here I would. Staff is amazing and so kind. The trainers are so helpful and knowledgeable especially Roger and Patrick (so don’t be nervous to ask for help). Saturday Spin at 9am and Tabura at 10am with Reign are a MUST!!!Management is also very nice. Danny (the District Operations Manager, I think or he should be) is always very eager to help to the best of his ability. The gym is always clean and full of familiar and friendly faces. Even during the busier times (6-8am/ 5-8pm) there’s still space for you to do what you need.

2022-07-08This location, probably, will be bought out soon to build rapidly expanding high rise in this area like it happened to 23 street location in Manhattan. That explains their discount membership and luck of customer service. However if you join make sure you interrogate managers what will be total fees you will pay. I was pushed to upgrade my membership on the last day of a month from essential to signature and ended up paying for two month dues for both clubs in full, basically paying for the entire month of the signature club I have not even set my foot in and for the essential club that I will no longer attend. When I contacted costumer service they just replied it’s miscommunication and did not offer reimbursement for the overlapping dues I paid for both locations for 2 month. I am sure owners are going to write below that they are sorry to hear that and blah blah blah, but based on other reviews below, I understand, it’s a common thing for this location.

2022-04-14Only one working treadmill (incline is broken on every single machine) — and it’s been MONTHS, they haven’t made an effort to fix them. The only saving grace of this location is the front desk staff who is kind and always smiling. Otherwise would NOT recommend. Save your money and go elsewhere.

2022-07-03Good gym but they will nickel and dime you at every opportunity. They will charge ridiculous andarbitrary fees and make it as hard as possible to manage your subscription and only pay what you actually should pay. Predatory business.

2022-03-22The place is nice. But it’s just so expensive. 150 a MONTH FOR THIS. This is NYC. Gyms here with their MAX membership that has everything included is 30 a month. I don’t see WHERE HOW OR WHEN. My membership and time at this location would be 5X better because I would be paying 5X the price anywhere else.

2022-06-11Love the location And Reign is the BEST instructor EVER! BUT please FIX the stereo system! Every weekend its a problem. Today she had to do class without music! We made it work! But we pay to much money not to have working equipment!

2022-08-05Having been to several other Crunches around the city and Brooklyn, Im pretty sure this is one of the worst ones. Its not the staff or anything. Its the small space, nonsensical layout and selection/amount of equipment.Basically its much smaller and has far less equipment than a lot of the other locations. There can be 10 people at this gym and it still feels crowded, especially in the absolute dungeon of a free weights area in the basement. Somehow youre always in someones way or theyre in yours. Why is it the same price as the other locations? Its an inferior experience. It should cost half as much.

2021-01-31Dope low key gym in Fort Greene with a fantastic staff. 🙏🏼They’ve been great with taking the necessary precautions against COVID-19. They perform temperature checks when you check in, they have cleaning supplies accessible through out the gym, always have towels in stock, Cleaning Staff performs frequent vacuuming and disinfecting of machines, etc. Most importantly, they have decent workout equipment. (Bench press, Squat racks, dumbbells, cardio machines, yoga studios(heated) and a bunch more! The price for the membership is definitely worth it. There’s no long term commitment, so if you’re moving and need to cancel, just provide them at least a 30 day notice that you need to cancel. Wilson was my guy who signed me up and explained everything easy & throughly!

2022-07-07UPDATE: Sauna is now functioning.Previous Review: Men’s sauna has been broken for WHILE now. Considering it’s the only amenity… it should probably work.
