This place is super fun. Its unassuming and quiet, but it provides a comfortable and welcoming respite from the business of midtown. Located a few minutes down the way from the empire state building, Curry in a hurry is on a block with a bunch of other authentic Indian restaurants, boutiques, and grocery stores. The service really is quick! The portions are big and theres a fun little salad bar, with chutneys and even some dessert.Definitely recommend this quirky spot for an easy and yummy lunch.
I usually dont write bad reviews but this will be my first exception. The guy charged me $14 for a plate that shouldve been $11. He gave me almost no chicken and a full plate of rice. He also had a dismissive attitude and poor English communication. Youre better off getting halal cart food as it defeats this poor excuse of a meal in both quality and quantity. The tika masala sauce was bitter and the amount of chicken used was offending for the price.
This restaurant serves good curry! You can choose many types of curry, from vegetable curry to meat, fish curry.Seating space is located at second floor.A staff of the restaurant bring you a hot naan. That is very delicious! And you can take indian style salad, pickles and very sweet desert by yourself(buffet style).Drinking water is also available for free. The staffs of the restaurant are very kindly and friendly. You will spend a good eating time at this restaurant.
I dont know what happened to this place, i havent been in a couple of years and the food has gone seriously downhill. Not sure if they changed chefs or what but the food here used to be so amazing and it was so bad this time it was honestly the worst indian food ive ever had.
Servers dont speak English - only bengaliMatar paneer had only matar .. not a single paneer pieceQuality, hygiene and taste of food is horribleDefinitely not recommended if you are a vegetarianThis is actually a Bangladeshi muslim non vegetarian place masquerading as Indian restaurant.. choose accordingly.
This is beyond an eatery- it is an institution. The food is absolutely delicious without fail, the prices are very reasonable, and the atmosphere is relaxed and unpretentious, which I especially appreciate. The workers are very friendly, especially towards my daughter, which makes it a real pleasure to dine here. A place you will come back to again and again.
Ordered $39 worth of food from them. Call them an hour later and they said the guy was out delivering it. Called them again 1.5 hrs later and they said the guy was out delivering it. The food never showed up. I called and told them to cancel the order. They had the gall to charge my credit card (which I did not see till a week later). When I called them a week later about it, they hung up on me twice and finally told me that they could not go back that long to cancel the charge!Go somewhere else where they wont steal your money.
A reliable, no-frills, Indian, steam table restaurant on the same street (albeit different buildings) for 40 years. Great place for Indian Food newcomers to make their bones on all the different entres (theres more to Indian food than just Chicken Tikka Masala.) Watch your step on the stairs if you stay to eat.
Love you like no other. You never disappoint. Wonderful, friendly family restaurant. Great food. Always fresh. No indian food here is as tasty as yours. Seasoned to suit the pallet of the majority. No need to rush. I enjoy the way you interact with your customers, which in turn causes us to interact with each other. We always leave smiling. My order is properly packed and brought across state lines, sauce entact. I did not know until tonight that you received an honorable mention on the tv sitcom Will and Grace!! Miss you guys. Ill be sending for my order. Im glad you survived the pandemic while maintaining your quality standards. Miss you madly. Much love.
My family has been coming here for 30 years!! The service, quality, and portion size is great. Before and now during COVID-19 the place is clean, and there is now outdoor dining available in a built room on the road right next to the building. The last time I came here before this past Monday (5/10/21) was pre Covid, and there would always be Bollywood films playing in the background on the top floor, which really enhanced the experience. Even though this restaurant is more of a touristic spot, it is also a good place to go on your own or in a party of 4+!!! The pricing is worth it for any occasion. Its certainly a neighborhood staple.
Ordered an appetizer. Food was cold and made me sick shortly after. I had running diarrhea right after fifteen minutes of ingesting their food. Mind you, the food wasn’t spicy so you can guess why I had the runs. DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE unless you want to eat dirty food from unwashed hands. The food is probably old too.
I never write bad reviews ... but please spend your money elsewhere. i got a vegetable vindaloo for $8 that is so subpar, its a small serving and no rice is included - im not even sure this is a vindaloo sauce... i got a cheese naan for $5 thinking it would be paneer but its lit shredded cheddar cheese, also not very tasty, just pretty weird. i know everyone has their day but not to mention, the staff was very cold and unwelcoming. i know its new york city but simply, the place was dirty and unkept. spend your money at any other establishment.
The food was great. For the price the quantity of food, I could eat it by myself but it was great to share with my friend. Had the curry lamb with rice and veg- it was fabulous! The tamarind sauce could be thicker but it still had the taste. They offered free rice pudding and salad. I will definitely go back and my friend wants to go back again. It has seating upstairs and they do takeout. They don’t have parking so take the train.
Good location, reasonable price and decent portion size. The taste is missing. Curry was watery, the meat was dry and overcooked. The definitely need to review their recipe. Given their location, I should be massive busy, but even at peak lunch time the place was almost empty. Will I visit again? No.
Picked up two lunch entrées today totaling $27. Money down the drain. Unbelievably tasteless slop. Worst Indian food I’ve ever had! Have eaten here for years but the pandemic chef is out to lunch... elsewhere. Try another restaurant, this certainly is not worth the disappointment.
I thoroughly enjoyed their food, even my 5 year old was overjoyed with her meal... she said, “mom this food is delicious,” I had the curry lamb platter and she the chicken tikka... I would have rated it all 5 stars but now I’m a bit concerned after reading the comments of mice infestations... I have a fear for eating bad food! Nonetheless their portion size and taste was on point... hopefully my children and I don’t get sick
There were many things I found wrong with this restaurant. First and foremost, i found a piece of hair in my food. Secondly, the man that took my order charged me a higher price, which was not indicated on the menu. Lastly, the food was cold and the lamb curry was uncooked. If i can provide this restaurant with 0 stars I would. Definitely would not recommend.
The reason I give to this place 5 star is that I have been going to this restaurant since 1994 and the food was always good. Recently they have some issues and the place became somewhat old and not as clean as suppose to be. I hope the owner will spend some effort to renovate and make things better. Its a great place and the staff are lovely.
My experience was great the food was good they had really good naan and their curry was pretty great too my friends ordered lamb and it smelt so good I wanted to try it but unfortunately I’m a no lamb eater. The service was excellent and it was a nice clean area their bathroom was also very sanitary I’m very satisfied with my visit
The service was good, but the food was mediocre. I felt full, but nothing seemed to have much flavor. Maybe theyve dumbed things down spice-wise recently or else j just like spicier food than I used to - whatever it is, I wouldnt really go here if I wanted really delicious, spicy stuff. Id go here to sit with friends for a quick meal and eat something without caring too much about what I was eating.
I love this place. Took lots of friends who eventually also took their friends. Problem started when the place was sold. Seating was changed to horrific diner booth seating that was not nailed down. As your sat, your chair would slide. They of course have a lot of family eat there, and kids would sit and beat their feet again the booth bottom section which then made your seat vibrate. Not a great feeling. Think of being in a plane with a kid kicking your seat.
I ordered uttapam from this place and chicken samosa. The uttapam was totally undercooked, topped with bunch of carrots. The taste was totally awful. Sambar and chicken samosa were totally oily and disgusting. I trashed my whole meal and will never order from this place again. Only order if you want to get sick!
I have been going here for 39 years and I regret to say that the novelty has finally worn off...THE FOOD IS HORRIBLE NOW!I used to rave about this place but the last 3 times I have gone there the food has been worse and worse with this last time taking the cake for the vegetable samosas being sour and the rasmali slimey.CURRY IN A HURRY PLEASE DO BETTER!
This is the worst restaurant and the Manager is poor as hell. The little old guy is so rough with almost every customer who don’t buy more food from his restaurant. Not only that he charges you more if you take more time to order or asking details about the food. No one should go to this restaurant. Because the management is so disrespectful to the customer.
Really mediocre food. None of the curries had any flavor to it and it just tasted bland. But the chicken tikka was completely flavorless. Mutter paneer had hardly 3 paneer cubes and remaining was just full of peas. No taste at all. Only thing good about it was the Naan was fresh and soft. If you really want to enjoy authentic Indian food, look elsewhere as the their name dont do justice to real food.
Not the best, but honestly I love it. Big bones/little meat in their lamb dishes, but their potatos are always on point. Also, the rice is never stale, love that. They are open pretty much always, which is always great; and dont care how long you stay, at least in my experience. Just be respectful, tip well, share the love we should all be spreading and I think youll get on just fine.Oh, and every vegetarian mean Ive had is awesome. (In respect to the price) Especially anything tater-related (Aloo, their, its fire, for sure! -a bit of poetry that may match their lamb vindaloo!) Sorry, was rather peeved at my meal this eve. Order lamb meat and got mostly bones. Maybe the F-ed me, since I was taking out, to dine at home. I really love this place, it was a main source of tasty sustincence through 3 years of art school and beyond. Im just a bit sour bout my lamb this evening, spice was on point, but really? What happened to the rest of the lamb if what I got was mostly bone??? That being said, I do love this place, its a cost efficient staple for myself and I KNOW, quite a few more people on the grind that just need some sustincence. Stay strong Curry in. Hurry, and carry on.
Had the Chicken Biryani and Chicken Tikka which also comes with Naan and some Dhaal. The portions were sizeable and there were three of us— safe to say there was more than enough to go around. Service was quick and good. Definitely worth the money! And oh yeah— it’s a Halal eatery, so that’s another plus for me!
Simple, no bells and whistles yet tasty and mostly authentic Indian food. The fresh and fragrant Nan is superb, try Paratha plain and with fillings. The rest of the food is great though simple fare. My only disappoint was the Biryani It did not even resemble a Biryani. Try the huge Samosa too and the various veggie dishes. Then, the price is fair and low relative to other places close by.
I know most people dont order from this place looking for a great cuisine - it is mostly cheap food that is convenient - which is why I order from them from time to time for delivery. But never again after what I saw when I set foot into the place.I have gotten sick a couple of times after eating their food thought maybe it is a coincidence - and now I know why. I am not sure how they get by being so filthy - I hope they are due for a visit from the health department.NEVER AGAIN!!!
In light of whats happening right now, I feel like I have to be open about what happened 10 years ago when I was living above this restaurant. My sister and I sometimes ate here, and after Halloween celebrations one late night we went in. The cook came out to tried to flirt with us because we had a bit to drink, and suddenly out of nowhere he grabbed my left breast and squeezed. The staff just stood around and smiled, it was absolutely disgusting. We were so shocked and scared that we immediately ran out, and never went back in. For 10 years Ive been silent, but no more. It should never happen, and hope it never happened to anyone else!
DO NOT fall for this. Too much hype. Worst food, and please dont look at the walls while eating. You will puke.Chicken Tikka Masala was the worst Ive ever had. Like they threw a bucket of water in that tray. Didnt even stick to the bread.Naan bread not cooked. Want to eat dough, go ahead.Been eating there for 10 years. Got gradually worse, and I was in denial. No more, this place is just terrible
A staple in nyc for late-night Indian food cravings, Ive been eating here intermittently for several decades. The food is generally tasty if uninspired (unfortunately the curry beef was tough as Hell Tonight but tasty enough that I didnt make it an issue). For about $16 with a can of soda you get some very tasty chicken tikka masala, basmati rice, a side veggie (the eggplant & potatoes is very good but mostly potatoes, saag paneer tends to be a tad on the runny side) and a piece of fresh naan. Upstairs is a small salad and condiment bar...the cole slaw is usually excellent, but the salad to me isnt inviting. For dessert theres usually rice pudding, always good. The interior is somewhat like a cafeteria, a tv is always playing Indian programming. All in all, I recommend this place for decent cheap eats.
This place is very quick so good to come during lunch if you need food in a rush. They have the standard Indian dishes such as tikka masala and they serve it rapid fire because its pretty popular during lunch time. Theres a seating area upstairs with water pitchers so its a good low maintenance meal option.
Ive gone there for 30 years. Its a great place for many different vegetarian dishes. You can get freshly made naan. They also make fresh smoothies there and some authentic Indian pastry which is delicious. Lassi there is also delicious there. You can get a card and after 12 dishes, you can get a combination entree for free!!
This place is worth a visit. Its a very low key place there you can choose self service or table service. The food is out of this world. Its a Indian tast with plenty of curry in its best. I visit there as often I can, and I have only the best to say. I give it five stars with no reservations.
I would give this place 1 star.Food was bland. We ordered for our office. No body was happy with their food. small food portions. The chicken tikka entree portion for $7.99 was laughable. I ordered my food spicy but all the food was bland. Sorry if Indian food is not spicy and flavorful then its should not be sold as Indian food.Food was delivered fast hence the 1 starSave your money and get food from someplace else.Update- I called to let them know about the quality of the food and the guy on the other end started to argue. We had already thrown the food in the garbage and werent asking for a refund. An apology would have nice. Horrible customer service. If possible I would give this place zero stars. Go somewhere else.
Worst. Restaurant. Ever. Their biryani is a joke. Tandoori chicken is dry and bad. Waiter has no idea what he is doing, he didnt even know what the restaurant food was, and barely looked us or any other customer in the eye. This restaurant is self service but no one tells you that until you have waited 10 minutes without plates, salad, napkins or anything else you may need. Do not waste your time or your money on such a pathetic restaurant.
I used to Love eating food from this place. I dont know what happened but never again. Absolutely horrible. We brought some dishes. We had two orders of the Rice and Naan that was missing, even though they said everything was in there. My wife saw them take out the rice and everything, which they must have given someone else. When we got back to Pennsylvania, we realized that everything was not in there. We had some Utta Pam. It was burnt. Absolutely disgusting to taste. The guy that serviced us was absolutely rude. We called them after we got back to Pennsylvania and he rushed my wife off the phone saying: ok ok ok come back next time and youll get one Naan. All this after it took 40 minutes to get our order.
If they had minus point,I would have give them. first of all, paneer inside the saag paneer was melted and when we ask about it they said its how it is served. It was still okay but the way server talk to us was so disrespecting and we feel like we were very discriminated. Never coming here. Very very dissappointed
I went after a nearby doctor appt. It was around 11:30am. I had masala dosa and lentil soup instead of the veggie soup that was offered. The spot is no frills, a slight dive even but my goodness my lunch was delicious! The dosa was sooo good. The stuffing was seasoned well. The lentil soup was flavorful and filling but not overkill. Simple. Ive only had chana saag from there before...but the best $9 I spent on lunch in a while.
They freaking don’t even deserve 1 star. Staff is really rude and 2 guys were not wearing mask and gloves they used bare hands to bring my food 1 guy was cleaning his nose and wipe with his shirt I just felt so gross and walked out from the restaurant they started cursing me out .
My friend Jack is part Lebanese, part Russian and part indian. His mother used to bake pancakes at the local temple and distribute them to the janitors that worked in the buildings in Manhattan via bicycle couriers. Needles to say Jack knows curry like pope knows poo in the woods. We highly, highly recommend this place for dinner!
I ordered a chicken shish kebab sandwich on a nan and a small tea. The guy who took my order gave me a price of $5.25 which was a reasonable price, then the guy at the register charged me $7.35 and explained himself that the difference was tax charge...??? The register guy is so rude and mean... He was already arguing with another customer about the prices...
This place is enjoyed by many types of people caucasions, indians seem to enjoy this place the seating is upstairs the food is tasty Indian food the Nan bread is yummy 👌they take credit cards and cash theres a rest room on the premises and a salad bar the best dishes are with chicken the spinach is tasty and the vegetables are good too walk in and try a chicken dish 😋
The McDonalds of Indian food. Tastes good, might leave your a little sick after, questionable cleanliness, odd combo of fastfood-style take a tray to your table and you kind of have a guy around as a waiter. Definitely a spot to hit if you want curry...and are in a hurry.
I am a native New Yorker and will keep to the directness of how we are known to be :)Food: Ok. The Chicken Vindaloo was oily and the chicken tasted unfresh. The Lamb Vindaloo was better.Space: This is a bi-level restaurant. The first level is mostly take-out, but has seating options. The main dining area is large, open and romantic. The decor and design is festive and ornate. Its a great place if you want to take-out or just have quaint get-togethers.Service: While they are courteous, the service on the main dining area is very slow.
I told the cashier i had already ordered on line and was there to pick up 3 times before he acknowlege me he was even looking to take other people orders waiting on the line when i was already there in front of him. They were out of chicken pakora which i had ordered on line, also the lamb vindooloo was extremly spicy, i couldnt eat it. and greasy. i added 3 table spoons of my own yogurt to cool it down and it still burn my stomach.
Curry in a Hurry is my go-to place whenever I have a craving for chicken tikka masala but do not want to spend an exorbitant amount of money. There are several different combinations to choose most of which include naan, basmati rice, a side of vegetables, and your entree of choice chicken (i.e. chicken tikka masala, tandori chicken, etc.) The dishes are fairly priced, you get a good portion for what you pay. If you ever want to introduce anyone to indian cuisine, this is a great place to take them.
I used to always hang out with Russel Simons driver in the font of this restaurant taking about the black mayback Benz and bother him for info on the car he was super cool a real humble guy and would not brush me off but talk nice to me and would wait outside as his boss russwould eat upstairs meaning this food will make you think more clear as this restaurant has great vegetarian food mixed with amazing spices that increase blood flow started by the owner of Kurdistan a famous spice shop owner it has been a mainstay in little India 28 th and lex the food is amazing very healthy and they have a salad bar but understand it is toned down for use taste it is not real indian that is really hot and spicybut is is great place to try
Curry in a hurry is exactly that.. and knowing Indian food tells me that.. curry shouldnt be hurried .. I had beef curry naan and rice and I was disappointed beyond words.. the meat was still half done and lacked the taste.. naaan was ok though.. this place doesnt deserve anything beyond a 1 star!
I’ve been going to this place since early 2000‘s and I it hasn’t changed and I don’t want it to because this place is great tasty, affordable and in The middle of a very nice part of Manhattan on Lexington Avenue.Anytime I’m in the area I got to stop by for a little curry in a hurry!!!

2022-07-05The food is delicious!! There has never been an entree I’ve eaten that I didn’t enjoy! Flavorful and simply scrumptious! In addition to all this, their prices are quite cheap for the amount of food theyserve. The staff are amazing - friendly, patient, and very kind. Even during busy hours, they cater to every person’s order and make sure they are heard and taken care of.If you are hungry and craving a taste of the nation of India, this is the place to go!

You get value for your money and not only that, the food is actually really really delicious. You est like a king and queen for the fraction of the cost. Even as good prices are rising this place would not disappoint you. Give them a try if you havent done so already. Your wallet and your taste and your stomach would thank you!!!

2021-09-30Ordered a combo platter to go: Chicken Tikka Masala, Saag Paneer and rice. Came with a side of Naan. The meal was very enjoyable and tasty. I will patronize again.

2022-04-29Great Indian food w/reasonable prices. I make it a point to stop there when Im in the city. The only problem is seating. You have to walk upstairs to sit at a table. If you are clumsy like me, that could be tricky though to be fair, I asked someone to carry the tray and they did. Cant wait to go again!

2022-03-25Excellent food, super friendly service! Best vegetable samosa and naan I ever had! This place is great because the food is already made and you see it behind the glass so you know exactly what you’re getting. And you can get a combination of things for $13 (including tax) - I got 3 different vegetable dishes, naan, and samosa. (At a regular Indian restaurant you pay around $12 for one vegetable dish so to get any variety you have to spend around $40). They are open till at least 11:30pm (their google time is wrong).

2022-06-12I ordered 3 dishes and all was not good they called me and canceled one order saying they are closing and i ordered an alternative. Fish curry was not at all fish curry they put fish pieces in some other veg curry and packed it. the fish tasted stale and very hard. The aloo paratha was not a paratha but aloo masala stuffed naan
