Daily Grind in other cities:
This space is great for doing work or meeting colleagues while enjoying coffee and an all-day breakfast menu. Everything is served with genuine smiles from the kind staff. It has the potential to be a local favorite, but its prices are a little high. Example: slice of chocolate cake (that is quite dry) with a coffee/bottle of water goes for $9.00 with tax. Factoring in the atmosphere and kind staff, it still is a little high.
Great place for coffee and brunch! They are cash-only, but they have an ATM on-site. There was live music on the Sunday morning that I went, and it worked really well with the rest of the atmosphere. Their coffee is very good, and they also do a great cappuccino. It was a special so I dont know how often they have it, but the egg and cheese bagel with maple syrup drizzle was fantastic. The staff is attentive and friendly.
I’ve been coming to the Daily Grind (Albany Location) since I was in High School... the food and customer service is AMAZING. I relocated to Watervliet and found out there is a Troy location and let me tell you I have never met nicer people in my life. The cashier is always so polite and nice. The food is made fresh and super delicious and the decor and overall vibe is Top Notch. My boyfriend and I will definitely be back again and again. ❤️
In this day and age it blows me away there are no vegan breakfast options. Not a lot of places have them around here, you could clean up as other vegan places arent open early. Just a thought, esp given the location. At least some vegan cream cheese. NO one in Albany does to my knowledge.
The daily grind has a great everyday menu and also specials. The food is fresh, cooked to order, and tastes great. The coffee is good. The atmosphere is really cool. There are tables and chairs, and also a lounge area to hang with friends or read a book alone. It is affordable, there is something there for every budget.
If you like a small quaint family owned and operated place to have breakfast or brunch with great self roasted coffee, this is the place for you. Yes, they are one of the few places anywhere that has a coffee roasters. It is not located at the Troy location, it is in Albany. But this is a very unique feature. The food is great, they make good Bloody Marys if you need one and the staff is friendly. Sit and chat, sit and study, whatever works for you. They also sell their coffee beans.
The location in Troy. One star for breakfast sandwiches- always fresh and tasty. One star for the coffee- one of the best I ever had. Cozy, nice place, little overpriced but still worth it. And one star for trying... I was waiting to write this review until I try this place few times. Unfortunately the dessert was awful again, stale, moldy taste. I still have the aftertaste of old fridge in my mouth. I got dessert there about a year ago and it tasted same way. Not mentioning the stomach ache. Nothing have changed in this category. Plus the price for it😱 Just make sure you don’t get any dessert from the fridge on the left
Takeout order was incorrect. Did not listen to clear instructions. Even wrote the correct order on the receipt but when we opened the platter it had cheese, which I specifically ask for it to not have. Home fries weren’t crispy or tasty. Food overall was a disappointment, especially after waiting almost an hour for breakfast.
This is a great place to come and study as a student. You get a discount when you bring your student ID. Also, you can get iced coffee with free refills if you stay, which was reasonably priced and great for my college student budget. Theyve had live jazz in there before, its just a cool place that has a great atmosphere.
The staff are friendly, if a bit subdued (at least when I was there). This place has some nice little tables outside, and the interior is cozy and well decorated. Exactly what youd want from a coffee shop. The soup and sandwich I had were very good, and the cheesecake was great also. This looks like it would be a great place to come for a quick bite and a long stay.
Food is pretty good, coffee as well. I would strongly recommend they take on the service style of the Lark Street location; offer for here or to go at the counter. I have been given very snarky responses at the counter when attempting to order to eat in. unfortunately, if I come in and no one seats me, I as a customer am left wondering when (if at all) Ill be served if I seat myself, especially if I sit in the front or its busy.I try to constructively offer this criticism because I otherwise really enjoy this location and would love to come to Troy and hang out here more often, if not for being harassed about awkward table service. Please strongly consider my advice.
Coffee had a musty taste to it, like the coffee beans had sat for a long time in a basement or storage unit. This place needs a VERY good cleaning and a update in furniture and fixtures. I kind of get the feeling the owner does not care about the cafe anymore and just wants it for the income, regardless of condition of this place.Lastly, at $3.25 for a small coffee, I’d rather not.
Casual place in Troy that is great for a casual breakfast with coffee. Their menu offers a large variety of tasty sandwiches and bagels. Plenty of lunch and snack choices for later in the day with wine and beer available. The daily grind offers a cozy atmosphere with table service and a classic feel. Recommended
Support small business, a very nice place. Only a 3 because they are cash only and they essencially dont like to do custom orders....the cashier apologized to the cook because my sandwich wasnt on the menu as a specific item. I ordered a turkey sandwich with roasted red peppers etc....they had both those things on the menu. I feel a little embarrassed..... *edit* I just want to let people know that my sandwich was delicious, and I by no means want to put the daily grinds down, because they should definitely be supported however I just didnt like getting questioned about a damn sandwich LOL
They used to be a lot better. The coffee is always super sweet even if you ask for 1/2 sugar. Their food is okay. Staff is super friendly and sweet. They also dont have a working registrar and so they are cash only. Theyve had this issue for several months and dont plan on getting it fixed. Super inconvenient.
Daily Grind has decent coffee and better than average espresso drinks, with regular rotations of seasonal flavors. The breakfast food is much better than your average café but not as good as some local shops with more food centric themes. The quality of service at the Troy location is far superior to that of the Albany location, where wait times are often longer than what it would take to make the food yourself. Dont let an experience at the Albany location scare you away from The Daily Grind in Troy.Theres plenty of seating for smaller parties, but large groups over ten people may have issues being seated together.
This place may be good in person but I dont recommend getting from grub hub. Our 2 egg sandwiches came out to $20 and they forgot the coffees and BACON! So pretty much 20 bucks for an egg on bread. Tried to call them to get it figured out but the phone line was busy all morning. Never odering from here again.
Usually my experience is fantastic here although the atmosphere can seem a bit dark they have good food and extremely well crafted espresso beverages. Unfortunately today that was not the case. As someone who works in a cafe myself, I am appalled at how the manger treated her customers, referring to her actions as being dismissive and rude is giving her more credit than she deserves. I understand cafes run out of product but to put her hand in someone’s face and just say “no” was a little much. I also noticed when the customer asked for a refund she was shorted a dollar, the fellow coworker took it upon herself to repetively appologies for her managers actions which I appreciate but should never have to be the case. Unfortunately I will not be returning to the daily grind which makes me a little sad but as someone who manages in a similar setting I can’t find any excuse for someone in such a position to act the way she did.
Disorganized and very questionable sanitation practices right in the middle of CoVid. The person cooking behind the counter wearing a mask around her chin, no hairnet and extremely rude. If this were my business, I’d fire her on the spot. Waited 45 mins for two simple breakfast items and never got our food so we left. My first time here and I will absolutely never be back. Where is the management? They better rope this in soon or it will be to their demise.
This review is ONLY regarding the fact that in the 21st century, only cash is accepted at this location. It is no longer convenient to carry cash or use ATMs that initiate a nonbank withdrawal fee. I drove here specifically to eat because of the reviews and photos and nothing in the description stated “cash only”. Google Maps listings should be detailed and state something as important as a limited payment option. I will gladly update my review once I get a chance to actually eat here. Until next time.
I am a frequent customer at Daily Grind. Usually I leave there in a better mood than when I came in. Today that was not the case. After placing my order the manager told me she could not make me my drink non dairy. After asking her to use mocha powder and sugar instead of chocolate milk for my Heath Bar Latte she put her hand in my face and just said no. She also made me a Mocha instead of a Heath Bar Latte. One of the workers there kept apologizing to us for her behavior. Instead of getting a drink I asked for a refund for myself and my sister who also did not get what she ordered and was shorted a dollar. When I called up to speak to the manager which happens to be her she said “Come in and vent, get your dollar and go somewhere else!”
This is a place that wallows in mediocrity. The interior is a combination of shabby and smelling of burned cooking oil times 20. The cake seems expensive for what it is and at one point, a family member was almost served moldy apple pie 🤢🤬. I would not recommend this place!
One of my friends turned me on to the Daily Grind since both he and several other members of my graduate cohort liked going there to do work. It had a really comfortable atmosphere, good food, and a number of places to sit.I had grilled cheese, some peanut butter pie, and two Chai Lattes. Their Chai Latte was wonderful; it was neither too spicy nor too sweet which was refreshing given that Ive had a fair number of over-sweetened Chai Lattes before. Their grilled cheeses were crispy, warm, and gooey. They had two bread selections and four cheese choices that I can remember (American, Swiss, Cheddar, Mozzarella). The pie was as delicious as it was beautiful. It can be a tad pricey but with food like that, the friendly staff, and free Wi-Fi it is definitely a place I would recommend if you want a nice place to study or grab a quick lunch.
Nice warm atmosphere and food but the espresso drinks are not great and they are the worst of the Capital District half-table-half-counter service, so you wait for someone at your table who may never come, or you go to the counter to be told disdainfully that you should have a seat.

2021-12-29Used to go to the Albany location 20 years ago in college. Was nice to meet an old college friend here to catch up and sit in the window. I like just enjoying the vibe of the street pass by and all the cool old buildings, especially after being out in Oregon where everything is so new. Nice variety on the menu of bakery goods to pair with beverages as well as affordable sandwiches. Breakfast all day speaks my language for sure! Always enjoyed the welcoming atmosphere to come and share in the space, gather, work, enjoy board games or books or local weekly publications available to peruse. Its nice to see this Capital Region staple still around and providing this type of space for their community. I hope the community continues to show up for them in return. 🙂

2021-06-29My family always enjoys visiting The Daily Grind in Troy, New York. We stop in after the Turkey Trot and our other adventures in Troy. Recently we stopped in after exploring the Monument Square movie set, for the HBO series the Gilded Age. My son had the French toast; I had a grilled blueberry muffin and a bacon, egg, and cheese on a grilled hard roll; and my wife had an egg and cheese sandwich on a toasted bagel. All were Delicious!! The presentation of the French toast was top notch and the flavor was… Yum!!! The food is always great and made to order. The owner and staff are lovely. The atmosphere is relaxed and crunchy!!

2022-03-09Okay. I have no problems with any of the employees, food, drinks, atmosphere, or other customers. Its the boss! While I was enjoying my lunch, she was berating her employees, arguing with them in front of the customers. Several times, I heard her say Like I care? I dont care. In response to things her employees said, such as having taken orders or cleaned something up. She makes the vibe in the coffee shop uneasy and it seems like shes more stressed than anything and doesnt wanna be there. I get that everyone has off days, but this was just rude and shouldve been handled in a more professional way. Besides her, though, everything is perfect, quaint, homey, and tastes great!

2022-05-23I mean dope vibe, coffee and food. The staff is friendly but not knowledgable on their menu nor how to work their system. Forgot items of food twice in one order and messed it up. Not a big deal. Enjoy playing chess and drinking coffee here

2019-10-13First timer over at the Grind. Cash only put a damper on my mood as soon as I walked in. Thankfully there is a readily available ATM. I had a simple order; a corned beef hash sammie with egg and smoked mozz on a roll. Coffee came free with the sandwich which was a huge perk. The coffee was fresh, hot, and strong, which is just the way I like it. Raw sugar available on request. The sandwich itself was really okay. I wanted a ton more flavor in the hash and potatoes. Again, it wasnt bad at all, just not special in any way either. I will for sure come back again to give the Grind another shot at a different bite to eat.

2021-03-01Always love Daily Grind. Great food and drinks at a reasonable price, and a super chill place to get some work done. WiFi is pretty speedy as well! One of my top places to come to when I need a calm place to study.

2019-07-11The food & pastries were ok-tasting at best & sadly, VERY overpriced for what you’re getting. (except the salmon- the salmon was delicious.)The service provided by the individual I interacted with was absolutely fine, however, one of the employees were smoking right in front of the establishment & close to where we were eating which is very inconsiderate. Not likely to return.Oh, & heads up, they’re cash ONLY.
