Dannys Restaurant in other cities:
Dinner selection is limited. The food is served until the pan is empty even if it is no longer appealing or tasty. Since 2020 quality has reduced at this Newburgh location. I will say the Poughkeepsie location still holds down the delicious reputation of tasty hot and fast.
Long time customer. I live less than a mile away and used to go 3 times a week and even had family from out of town enjoy the food with me. Unfortunately the last few months has made me lose interest this restaurant for good. The quality and variety of food was vanishing, as well as decent customer service. Basic main options would be finished at 6pm on a Friday and they had no intention of replenishing even when they closed at 9:30. There isnt much interaction required so when it’s intolerable, it’s unacceptable. Now looking for a new spot to frequent.
I really wish giving 0 stars was an option. Not only did they pick up the phone, twice and put it back down, but they shut their phone off because they didnt feel like taking orders. When i finally got somebody on the phone, he then hung up on me in the middle of me placing my order. They called me back and he tells me i have NO RIGHT to have an attitude because he didnt mean to hang up he meant to put me on hold and i need to calm down.( why would you put someone on hold in the middle of you taking their order?) the whole place unprofessional and lack customer service. the management team needs to hire people who actually want to have customer service jobs because the employees they have now are making the whole restaurant look bad.
This place has best food in all areas within thus County the food is made Puertorican style and tradition. The food is excellent flavor just like my COUNTRY 🇵🇷. Just exactly like itsuppose to be. I was born in 🇵🇷 I am a For I we say Paadelante MI gente land of the noble man. The food remind me of my Grandmother who without stove. And food was tasty like it suppose to.
The food is tender, tasteful and hot. I’ve been going to Danny’s over 15 years now, when he was by Bway & Chamber Street. The food had tasted salty a very few times. I don’t like the taste of salt at all, so me tasting salt the next person probably won’t. Danny is very nice and friendly. The portion amount is big. The prices are very reasonable. I would definitely recommend Danny’s Restaurant 😀
There food is always amazing, the pollo guisado was on point and very flavorful. I usually get my Mangu and tres golpes here which is always fresh. So far what I know is this, theres a secret menu...meaning if you think they might make it, just ask for it and theyll PROBABLY make it.For example:Mangu with salami, queso frito and eggsThat is mashed plantains, with fried salami, cheese and eggsMorir soñadoOrange Juice mixed with evaporated milk, sugar, vanilla and ice. This is so deliciousI look forward to seeing their success!
Dominican restaurant cooking Too salty, I used to come here all the time, I mean up to two times a week to lunch but not anymore, their food used to be good now is too salty making everything taste the same, Literally, reduced to small portions, low variety of food at the counter and on top of all there’s always one condescending rude ‘girl’ on the counter who apparently gets easily offended of anything that gets points out by the clients who is the one paying her to be there. I used to come here all the time but not anymore. 👎🏽
Lady at counter acted like I was waisting her time. When they didn’t have what I wanted they then over charged me for what I paid for the original price was 6.99 then when I pulled out my card she immediately says 10$. Lady constantly rolled her eyes and sighed horrible customer service then said something rude to the guy as if I don’t understand Spanish. Chicken empanada wayyyyy too salty riced tasted old and chicken tasted almost watery not authentic do better Danny’s this is a lot of business lost.
They dont stray too much from the day to day food on the ready. Empanadas, beef stew, chicharon, all there. I have eaten here many times. Leave yourself a little extra time during the lunch hour, it may be busy. Reasonably priced ,except when ordering weighed items. My only complaint would be to avoid going late evening on a sunday, the choices may be limited and what is there may have been cooked hours before and just waiting to be discarded before closing. Come earlier and there isnt a problem. Solid, rustic, filling Dominican food. Enjoy
The food was good but there was an older woman there with such a bad attitude. Also another time I went at 7 pm and their closing time was 10pm and they had almost no food left, this happened more than once. I won’t be coming back. If you want something comparable try anais restaurant on broadway.
Let me start by saying I don’t recommend Danny’s Place at all.Definitely not a friendly place. Not a clean place to eat, unsanitary conditions.I’m surprised the health department haven’t done something about it. I told the young girl there was a cockroach on the counter she completely ignored me so I told the older lady hey there is a cockroach on the counter and she just walk back in the kitchen. There was bugs floating around in the dirty water of the steam table. Completely disgusting.I use the bathroom and for get about it beyond disgusting.I ask for the owner but he wasn’t around. The owner Danny obviously don’t care about someone getting sick.Danny and his crew should be send back to the health department and retake the food service management class.Warning potentially hazardous food.
My experience here was always bad. I ALWAYS used to get chicken soup there and waited 45 minutes for it. Then last time which was like 2 weeks ago, I waited for 35 minutes for me to walk out take the soup out the bad to just water in the jar. No chicken inside no potatoes no nothing. Then they overcharge the soups and chicken for no reason. Im sorry but they lost a customer. Never going back. Plus its way too unsanitary.
Service sucks!! Placed an order over the phone & when I got there I added an additional small rice. I get all the way home (had to cross the bridge) and when I sat down to eat half my order was missing!!!! I call back & the girl starts arguing back with me. When I get off the phone we had established that I’m going back for my additional items (white rice and tostones) we get there and the guy starts defending her that she got confused and didn’t ring us up for that... okay so now she messed up twice. She didn’t get my order correct & she didn’t charge me correctly. Then he tells me there’s no more white rice that the white rice is cooking and will take about 30 minutes .. like what?!?! Why didn’t she tell me on the phone?!? I came from beacon like their service is horrible !!!!!
Solid comida at the most affordable prices. This is our number one place we go to in Newburgh for Spanish food. Mofongo de camarones is comparable to what we get in PR. Mojito sauce for tostones is one of a kind. A large order feeds my three kids for less than $10, you can’t beat that! And it’s delicious! I am extremely critical when it comes to arroz con gandoles and all food Boriqua/Dominicano, and this place is consistently great. Sometimes it is a little salty but rather that than bland and dry.
Wish I could give zero stars, the rice was stale and old. The chicken that I waited for 20 mins for was somehow old and over fried. I feel like if I was of Spanish descent I would have had friendly service as I’ve seen done for my Spanish friends when they’ve come here. A waste of money, I have to throw it all away. Please don’t go here!!!!
Not too happy with my experience here. I was visiting this area and wanted to pick up some tasty Spanish food to bring to my boyfriend for his birthday. He was leaving for a trip later that day so we werent going to have much time together. I wanted to surprise him and bring him a plate of his favorite food. I called ahead and told them Id never been there before, Id like to get food but dont have time to wait. I asked if I needed to order what Id like from the menu or if everything was ready made when you walk in. She said there was no need to place an order over the phone, you just walk in and pick out what you like. I asked again, is that for everything on the menu? she said yes. So, I drove the 15 minutes out of my way, walk in and ordered and she says oh thatll be 20-30 minutes to make. Oh my gosh, so, I try to order something else and she essentially says theyre out of everything I came intending to get (steak and onions, plantains, empanadas). Im upset but Im here so placed an order and I wait... and wait. She offered a different pastry thingy because she said those were ready so I took one. After I waited who knows how long, I go to pay and thought I heard her say to the other lady to give me a special price but nope, its expensive, she charged for the pastry thingy that I thought was a nice gesture and I walked out without any sort of apology for the inconvenience. I brought the late food to my boyfriend and nor he or I enjoyed it. It put food in our stomach but it didnt have much flavor and was greasy - DEFINITELY not worth what I went through to get it. I was short an hour to spend with him on his birthday AND presented him with bad food smh Danny, you made me look like a careless girlfriend. Bad customer service and mediocre food.
Terrible service !!! Smells horrible in the front like they emptied the mop water in the plant smh .Food is salty and they take forever to get your food ready. And why would you tell someone 5 mins for tostones when you won’t have any done for another 15-20mins then on top of that you don’t have any sauce for them smh !!! Let another Spanish spot open on a Monday y’all customers gonna be missing like your mojito sauce !!!!
I got the yellow rice, with black beans and chicken, all very good!! I also tried the chicken and beef empanadas, both good but as usually the chicken was better haha...... unfortunately there was more dough on the edges of the empanadas and not as much filling and you would expect just looking at them.......lastly I tried the maduros which got whatever reason I can never find a place that makes these well. They are either way too dry or have absolutely no flavor. Dannys maduros definitely werent dry but they were different. They use cinnamon and maybe vanilla which Im still not sure I really care for but not bad, maybe something I just need to get used toPortions are very big!! In total I had about 3 meals from this and it cost me about $15.
I ordered the fried pork, which was burnt and not to tasteful looking. When I called and asked for a manager the lady hung up on me ! I called 3 more times before I got an answer which she then said there’s no manager I can speak with and complain about my food try calling later and hung up on me a 2nd time. I will no longer recommend them with their rude and bad customer service !
Paid 70 dollars for 20 dollars worth of food and when I got home there was literally 2 beans in a cup full of water. The chicken was old and the steak was burned. It was a couple weeks ago on a Saturday. It was a girl behind the counter. In spite of the bad experience I am pleasantly surprised that you responded and I appreciate it.
Well not ever go back. They have piss poor attitudes. They do not make you feel welcome. I got the feeling that dont want white people in there. I walked in and it felt like someone died. The girl ignored me when I asked what style food it was and the old lady rolled her eyes. A bunch of miserable racist.
5 stars in my book!!! The food is amazing, great prices and the staff is friendly!!! I wish I lived closer because I would be there alot more often....I seen a comment from some moron saying the place is dirty and unsanitary and thats definitely not the case its very clean and nice....Their Cuban Sandwiches are SLAMMING 👌👍

2019-12-21Huge portions, great prices. Granted food service is a hard job but the staff could have paid a little more attention to my friends drink order. Overall a good experience and we are more than happy to come back in the near future. PS the meat is super tender.

2020-04-20Awesome lunch special. It is a great price for the amount of food that you get. The flavors are rich with plenty of the usual Puerto Rican spices. This is my favorite Spanish spot so far since moving here. Use cash if you can in order to avoid the credit card fee

2021-09-01Great food and taste. I prefer to dine in than take out. Lots of food options and choices to mix things up when feeling spontaneous. No cultural homemade beverage offerings. Also, communication barrier between staff and patrons if you dont speak Spanish. Can be frustrating for some. I would still go enjoy the good 👍.
