We are extremely happy to see this restaurant restored to its former glory. Just before they closed a few years ago the restaurant had really slid. The new owner has done a wonderful job restoring the exterior and interior of the restaurant. She has also done a amazing job of restoring the menu as well. The Rubens and hamlets are just as good if not better than they used to be. The potato pancakes, wings, and french onion soup are just as delicious as I remember them before the restaurant begin to deteriorate. We do miss our combination platter appetizer, but other than that this restaurant is better than before in my humble opinion.
It was Fathers day and we went out for an early dinner. There was parking all around the restaurant. We sat down right away. Alicia was our server and she was very friendly and pleasant.I ordered the chicken cordon bleu, it was fantastic. I knew it was going to be a wait for that so I ordered the fried Reuben to start. The Reuben was really good as well.My bride ordered they jagerschnitzel, she enjoyed it.There is a bar, Lotto game tv going on. The place looks clean but lacks ambiance of any sort. There is an ATM right next matred stand.
My wife and I had a great meal here, I got the Big Red Reuben and my wife the Schnitzel. The German Potato Salad was pretty good, I prefer my salad with a bit more of a vinegar taste but it was decent. The Reuben though was perfect, this is the best Reuben in the area. My wife loved her Schnitzel, she said it held up well compared to what she had in Germany.Overall the new Danzer’s is great, the decor is well done and they have a good selection of German beers. We will definitely be back.
We went there the opening weekend. Had a great time, and the food was awesome. I got the classic Reuben and my wife got the bratwurst. Seated quickly and the food came quick too, even tho there were a lot of cars there so we worried about seats. The only issues we had were with the beer. It WAS the first weekend, but they were out of a few beers and didnt have a beer list with descriptions we could see. Also the waitress didnt really know what the beers were or how to pronounce them. Im sure thats been taken care of, but Id also hope there are more German beers. I think theres a lot of opportunities there (the beers we had werent bad, but I might have chosen something different than a wild guess after looking up the brand with my phone).Definitely will go back!
Well the food was (Cordon Bleu) good. But the wait for it was 1hr 8 min I almost left without it. This was my first time there and I probably wont return. If you are anticipating an authentic feel well dont you are going to be disappointed. The staff is pleasant and polite and it is clean, just expect a wait if you want dinner.
Danzer,s is the best place in Syracuse to get excellent tasting German Food!! They have good snacks to choose from . Like sitting in a Bavarian Pup,drinking from a large beer stein. They got handicap out front, easy access too. You wont find a better place to eat German Food like this for miles around, definitely 5 stars quality!
Food was delicious! Service was great! Big Red Reuben was the best ! We are repeat customers for sure 😀 We returned for another visit! Dinner again was exceptional! Thanks for keeping up the recipes and traditions we expect....Reubens were to die for..! We understand youre short staffed like most of the country but everyone stepped in to help and the it was worth it ! 5 Stars!!!
Red Reuben was phenomenal, a couple of the beef dishes were good, rest of the food was mediocre. Beers were good. Restaurant was clean, tidy and easy on the eyes. Service was not great. Waited way too long for food, had three different waitresses, reservations were made days before but totally “forgotten” upon arrival by the staff. Not super impressed.
The only thing that stays the same is, everything changes! Still got cold beer, but not used to a cold bun on the Philly steak sandwich. Ruben was okay but lacked heat throughout, the dark rye was not toasted which was a real bummer. Cafe in Lafayette has a better ruben. Ive been visiting Danzers since 1991ish first stumble ever. No one was attending the front door when we arrived, if i had not driven 2700 miles I probably would not have waited the 20 minutes it took to be recognized. Probably not gonna side trip in the future. Grandpa would be bummed, he lived in Cardiff and we ate here often a long time ago.
There were very few customers when we visited on Friday night. We had their fried haddock dinner ($9.95). It was crispy and delicious. The serving was generous and frankly was underpriced. Two weeks previously we had the reuben and hamlet sandwiches and thoroughly enjoyed them. There was a small group at the bar who were obviously having a good time. Unfortunately they were extremely loud which was very annoying.
Waited 20 minutes at the front door. Took us prompting them to even be acknowledged. Once seated.... the fun really begins.Took another 20 minutes for them to even make eye contact with us. And another 20 minutes just to get water.But...we stuck it out. All three meals came out at different times.....nicely spaced at 10 minutes apart. Took a total of 2 hours for three sandwiches.Life lesson....if it feels wrong in the first 20 minutes........just leave. This mistake was on me for staying.
It was an odd experience tonight. There were 5 of us for dinner, ordering appetizers and drinks, as well as dinner. We were enjoying the conversation but it was taking a long time to be served the main dishes. I ordered a Knockwurst with German potato salad. The cook came out to tell me there was only one sausage left... I was okay with that. I wasnt expecting two. Well, time went on.. after over an hour, our dinner was served. I had two sausages. ?? I wonder if they ran to the store to buy a 2nd one? The long delay in service was a major deterrent to the evening.
Ive been twice in the past 2 weeks, once for lunch (2 adults 1 child) and once for dinner (2 adults). On both occasions we were sat right away. The food was good and servers friendly, however the service itself was painfully slow. For dinner it took us over an hour to get our food. And in that time there was a group of 8-10 seated near us that were there when we arrived, and got their food as we were leaving. I enjoy both the food and the atmosphere, but the wait would have me seriously reconsider how often I go.
Danzers recently reopened after the old owner decided to close. The restaurant and recipes were bought by the current owner. The place has been renovated but maintains the original charm. We had the potato pancakes as an appetizer. Not quite as good as they were in the past. My corned beef on rye was tasty. My husband had a red Rubin that he enjoyed as well. We were seated quickly and the waitress was attentive. We will go back again.
I had a $76.00 to go order, which included six different orders. Honestly, every single order was absolutely terrible. One of the worst places I’ve ever ordered food from. Two different types of Reuben sandwiches, Big and Red Reubens. No taste at all, the meat was like mush. A Philly steak and cheese, again no flavor. The steak was like roast beef that was boiled. Absolutely disgusting! Chicken Fingers and fries, how can you mess that up? Well they did. Four tenders that equaled about the size of two normal tenders. No flavor profile, taste like they were old and maybe the extras that were laying around. Grilled chicken again NOOOO flavor so bland. The only slightly edible item was a cold dry turkey sandwich that my daughter ordered. So disappointed, wouldn’t even give one star, will NEVER order again! Just terrible.
Because Danzers just reopened, they are still learning the routine and the kitchen was behind in filling the orders. Also, the place was packed. The initial wait time they gave us was 25 minutes but it was an hour and ten minutes before the food came. After a bit of grumbling, the manager was very attentive and took our order at the bar, but it was still some time before my group was seated. The food was excellent overall, although I prefer my salad not to be drenched in dressing. In the end it was worth the wait. I am sure the service will speed up as they get the kinks worked out.
It has been all redone. It is very clean and neat inside with lots of interesting German cultural artifacts. The atmosphere as a whole is great. If youre looking for a larger selection of genuine German beers this place is great. If you love German food you wont find a better place in the area.
If you live in Syracuse or are visiting the area and are in the mood for German food, then this is your spot. Traditional German dishes and beers with an atmosphere that makes you think you’re in Germany itself. The portion sizes are very large so come hungry or you’ll be leaving with a box, which isn’t really a bad thing!
This is a sad story. I frequented Danzers on Ainsley Drive 8 to 10 times a year since it opened at its current location in the 70s. When my father-in-law moved to town in the late 90s, that increased to about 25 visits per year as he loved the restaurant. I felt a keen sense of loss when the restaurant closed a few years ago, and rejoiced when it reopened. I was committed to supporting the new owners, but after three disappointing meals, Ive given up on the hope that the original quality would be maintained. One positive I would mention is that the quality of service is very good.
Good food but its not the same as the old Danzers. They do have a great selection of beer, which is a saving grace! I thought the red rubin sandwich that I ordered was a hot sandwich, it was cold in the middle. I may go back for the dinner menu in the interest of fairness because this used to be a very good restaurant. Did I mention the good German beer selection?
I went in for lunch. The staff is friendly. The portions are large for their price, and the quality I would consider middle of the road. I ordered the sauerbraten over spaetzel. I felt as though the food was not the freshest ( perhaps it was the odd time of day I was there) but I will give it another try sometime. It is worth a visit.
Wasnt sure with some of the recent reviews, but the family wanted German food so we decided to give it a try. We went on a game day and the food came out fast, hot and tasty. The kids are already asking when can we go back. Looks like the new owners have the kinks worked out. We will be going back soon.
Had a family party of nine adults. Table was good location and our waitress could not have been better. However, the food was the issue. Soup not hot and had to go back for warming, potatoes pancakes dry and hard, and a sauerbrauten sandwich was tough. Other dishes were ok. Thought it would be better in the food dept by now.
This was our first visit since Danzers came under new ownership. Although there was almost no one in the restaurant...and the waitress took our order quickly....it took over 30 minutes for 2 sandwiches! The sandwiches were good although the amount of meat was dismally thin...the only thing that gave the Reuben sandwich any measurable thickness was the sauerkraut! I expected better for $12 a sandwich!
Service and food was very, very good. The only 2 things wed like to see changed is for them to remove the TV from the back dining room and replace it with a coo coo clock and replace the cool white lighting with warm lighting. We like the brightness, just toned down a bit.
We have been coming to Danzers for years following Syracuse football games. We usually have a large alumni crowd and have included some current students. Danzers has been able to seat us and has held the back room for us even when Ive had to call because the game had gone into overtime. The staff is very friendly and weve always enjoyed our meals. We will continue to be repeat customers.
I was worried that this would not live up to the Danzers I had grown up loving. I was pleasantly surprised to find it as good as ever. Wait staff was excellent. I went with a fairly large group after a funeral, unfortunately we showed up an hour before our scheduled time. The staff quickly accomodated us, called the servers in early and were attentive and very pleasant. Food was wonderful. Nice job Danzers!
Danzers reopening makes me very happy. I was super excited to eat here again and it definitely did not disappoint. I had the beef remmoulade, and my girlfriend had the jager schnitzel. Both were made very well. Everything was tender and delicious, the sides were also very well made. We also got the potato pancakes. I prefer them with apple sauce, however you can get sour cream if you want. There is a lot of food to try to I definitely plan on coming back to see what else they have.
Ive been there a few times and loved every moment. The food was excellent. Its not haute cuisine but its equal to many of the restaurants Ive visited in Germany, in and around Munich especially. The decor is a bit dark but it gives the place a pub feel; nice for getting together with good friends and family. The service was frankly standard; nothing stood out in bad terms at least! The prices for dinner are a bit high; at least higher than Chilis or Friendlys or some other sort of nefarious chain restaurant, but the quality of the food is worth the extra few dollars. Overall, the three times Ive been there were pleasant. Good food, good ambiance, good beer…what more could you ask for? : )
This family restaurant, that been a long time tradition, just reopened with new owners but the same traditional German recipes. They didnt do much wirh the decor but the service was great along with the sauerbraton. Youve gotta try the Reuben fries. Prices were.quite reasonable and theres a bar. Not the place if youre after a plate of vegetables. Well be back.
I was pleasantly surprised, that a Old Syracuse favorite German Restaurant had reopened from the rumble of larger restaurants in the area. The inside had been remodeled yet the rooms did not inspire me the way the old Danzers from 1960 did. We were promised nostalgia and authentic German food The new Danzers fell short of that Goal. We ordered the Reuban rolls for an appetizer. They were out at 600pm on St. Patricks day. Service was very slow. They had at least 8 tables open yet there was a 20 minute wait for a table. Our waitress was handling at least 15 tables! After we were told that there were no more Reuben Rolls, it took another 10 minutes for the waitress to come back and they ran out of coffee at 630.pm. somebody forgot to put another pot on.We ordered the English chips that always came hot with salt and pepper on them with a bottle of malt vinegar. When they arrived, they were cold and soggy without the malt vinegar. 8 minutes later after asking twice for the vinegar, we finally got it and were told the chips are NOT served hot anymore. Our dinner came -my wifes Red Reuban was good but not piled high with corn beef but almost flat! The hot pastrami was cold and the pastrami was cooked until it was hard not steamed It hurt to pay a little over $ 40.00 for poor food.Sorry food was poor not authentic and nostalgia was gone.Where is the Danzers we were promised!?!
I am very particular when it comes to complimenting German food. I always compare it to memories of the food I was raised eating. Most times I am disappointed, but not at Danzers. I will give Danzers a 5 star for my entree - Rouladen - absolutely delicious, as well as the spaetzle. The potato pancakes were a let down ... but the creamy vegetable pork soup was outstanding. Overall a very favorable experience and at a surprisingly reasonable price. I will go back and take friends.
We ordered tasty potato pancakes as an appetizer, served with applesauce and sour cream. Crispy on top, soft potato underneath. Star of the show for me was the Beef Rouladen, tender and served over spaetzle with a delicious gravy. My husband got the Sauerbraten, very good but prepare for a tart gravy. I will be back again. Friendly service.
Poor service. Rubens which is usually fantastic was terrible. Wasnt the normal bread very thin. Asked for extra dressing and bever did get it. Had to ask 3 times for lemon for my water. When she finally brought it out it was 3 tiny pieces. Gave our bill to the wrong table so we could not use our debit card. Had to pay cash for her mistake . Very disappointed.
Decided to order a couple entrees to serve at a holiday party and called mid-afternoon for a pickup later in the evening. Gave my order, name, and number to the woman who answered the phone & she told me Ill be sure the evening bartender gets the order. When my friend went to pick it up on the way to the party, they said they had no order in their system. They did offer to make the food then, but the party already started, so we were out that dish.
Service wasnt that great, took us awhile to even get our drinks and didnt get checked on throughout the meal. Food wasnt done the way we asked for it and when the waitress took the plate back we recieved the sandwich sloppily thrown back together and barely changed. This was a second chance visit after not being very happy before and there proabably wont be a third.
I wish I could leave less than a star.Whole place smells like rotten fruit.Fruit flies lead me to believe my nose is right.Service was awful. Suggested nothing. Didnt welcome me. Ignored me when I walked in (why didnt I walk back out?!)Finally. Place was so dead the waitresses were complaining about nothing to do.. wanting to leave... my plate is cleared when Im done. My waitress leaves me the bill, I pay with debit. Miss I have nothing to do suddenly has to go into the kitchen for 2 minutes with my card. Eff that. Go here if you want your identity stolen. Im canceling my card. Way to be skeevie! Never coming back, gladly.
If I would have 0 stars as an option it would be better !!!I came from Germany, and wanted to try a German restaurant and I was told by someone to try danzers!!Never again, first of DEUTSCH?? NICHTS DEUTSCHES HIER.the food on the list is Not authentisch, yes i am authentic from Germany and I cant express my disappointment!! Tasteless and the service oh my god no passion I thought I get to meet nice people the great owner instead a grumpy lady came out the kitchen with a horrible and look in her face ....please folks learn how to cook go to Germany taste the greatness of is Germans !!What A shameMy response to your reply:I live in Germany since 1986Been in every single region of Germany I know for sure about food German food since I am in this business since a while , as for your offensive return : I am a sad person or unsatisfied !! I can only laugh what region are you talking about ?? Amerigerman?? Cause that does not exist , just accept the criticism and change ... U would definitely have a better outcome..as for.me I stick to what I said ..German potatoe salad...horrible not the nearest of what it should taste , schnitzel on a roll ...than wurst plain no taste no decoration the fries totally dry !! My condollances that was definitely made without passion nor love tmr...the only German thing there is the imported beer and the flag and if the old good owner was still alive he would have fired u in a heart beat!!Again NEVER AGAIN ...SRY NOT SRY
Alittle Disappointed. Red Reuben was not even warm andnot being able to order a half sandwich bummed me as like to order 2 different half sandwiches. My husband ordered the Beef on Weck the top of roll SO SALTY couldnt even eat top roll. Definitely need to work kinks out. Sandwiches should clme with at least chips as 11.95 each. His Weck sandwich came with 6 EnglishChips that were cold and old. Freshly painted and Very Bright.Guess need to get used to it. Will go back and Hopefully little better.Thinking they need to turn time up on there new conveyor belt they use Talked with other customers and over heard other people saying there sandwiches were also barely warm.
Used to like Danzers yeats ago so we were ao happy to hear they had opened under new owner etc.. Tried it tonight and it was delicious! Restaurant was clean and remodeled. Hostess and waitress friendly and food was served fast and tasted great. Cant wait to go back again soon!
The new danzers is awful if I could give zero stars I would took them 25 minutes after I ordered for them to tell me they didn’t place my order. I heard multiple people complain that “this is nothing like the old danzers” and how disappointed they were in this disgrace of the danzers name. Everyone should be fired they should just burn the place down and move on with their miserable lives

2021-12-31I would like to start by saying I do not review often, but this required a review. Tonight I went to Danzers with my family for my 30th birthday. The food and service was beyond amazing. The host made us feel welcome and placed us in the care of a server that made the dinner even more delightful. The food was cooked very well and came out very fast! The server is personalable and you can see she cares about her job. Many companies have struggled with service due to COVID, but this is place does not. I will be a returning cosutmer and will be very vocal about our outstanding experience. Thank you Danzers!

2022-03-21This last visit was for the books and not in a good way. Our dinner seemed like it was made from the frozen aisle of Walmart. I havent had food from there but thats c what Id imagine it would taste like. It was my partners birthday. No flavor. It lacked care and attention to detail. This should taste like it came from Grandmas kitchen.Dont waste your money/time here. Not worth it at all.

2022-02-06We found Danzers on a cold, snowy night. It was late, we were starving, and they were open. The food was AMAZING!!! Traditional German fair including excellent schnitzel and a variety of German sausages and side (the spaetzle and warm potato salad were excellent!), as well as breads and (of course) BIER!!! Staff was friendly and the restaurant was clean, well decorated, and inviting. We will definitely be back to Danzers next time we are in the Syracuse area!

2022-07-01Very good experience, nice atmosphere. I got the Big Reuben, it was very good, but it did have a good amount of Sour Kraut. The sour kraut is very good but is kind of shocking if you arent expecting it. All the food was great!

2022-02-23I hadnt been to Danzers in years, but Im glad I rediscovered this place! Seriously delicious German Food with generous portions. Our server, Shelly was pleasant, and on top of things, even though they were short staffed. We will definitely be back to this gem of a restaurant conveniently located close to home!

2020-08-28Another great meal! I have been here a few times and tried sauerbraten, schnitzel and jäger schnitzel. All fantastic! The rueben egg rolls are amazing( I don’t even like corned beef usually). I have not been disappointed yet this is my 4th time here.

2022-06-12Food tastes great and huge portions. First time back since they reopened and pleased with the meal. John, our waiter, was a great server.
