Not a good experience. Paid $90 for 2 of us. I paid the extra to skip the line. Was paired with another couple. Every actor jumped out to scare the couple in front of us and wasnt paying attention to the fact that it was a group of 4. So we got to see the actors backs everytime. We saw everything coming or it happened before we got there. They say to stay close together, but we wouldve had to literally hang on the the other couple backs to get any surprises. There wasnt really alot going on anyway. And the scene designs werent much the actors costumes werent that great either. It was also pretty short. For the money I paid, not worth it.
This place is garbage price not as advertised. It wasnt even scary dont waste your money going here!! Waste of time and money. Not my fault your Haunted house is not scary! The free haunted house in metford is scary!! For anyone looking to go to the best haunted house go to Bayville scream park!!
They are absolutely the best..i have went to several haunted house but not as good. The price is definitely worth every penny not that they are expensive. There are the cheapest i have ever paid for a haunted house. We had so much fun last night..we will definitely go again next year..the actors are amazing.we love everything about them.
Absolutely incredible. I have traveled all over for the “best haunted houses” and this one takes the cake. I was scared of my mind. The actors were phenomenal and the scenes were incredible. It was the most affordable one I’ve been to, and it blew the others out the water. This is a must experience!!!!
Arrived at about 7:15 (opens at 7) and the line wasn’t bad at all. Wait time was about 30 to 40 minutes on a Saturday night.Great actors, great set, pretty cool theme. Would definitely recommend this place if you like haunted houses! At one point I asked an actor if he could stop scaring me and told him I was terrified! 🙈Walk through lasted about 15 to 20 minutes! Great thing was that they made sure you weren’t piggy backing the group ahead of you, which is MUCH APPRECIATED! (I hate when that happens)I was surprised that they weren’t selling food/drinks and that there weren’t actors outside trying to scare you. The exit area was a tiny bit weird (all that space could definitely be used to add to the experience somehow). Would have been cool if there was a backdrop or prop for people to take photos with.(Side-note: If there was video/photos capturing my reactions I 100% would have purchased)I would rate Darkness Rising 4.5 stars but, the fact that they give back to charity (YES Community Counseling Center) bumps them up to a solid 5!I totally prefer coming here instead of other overrated/overpriced haunted attractions on the island. Can’t wait to see what they have going on next year. Keep up the great work and thanks for scaring the hell outta me!
The reviews on here are great for a reason. This is an absolute home run if you’re looking to get SPOOKED! Well-executed, with great actors, a great atmosphere, and unique scares that I have not come across elsewhere. Don’t let Halloween pass without stopping by, because you will definitely regret it. Looking forward to coming back next year!
If you are going to judge the place by the exterior look you might not go in but I recommend you look beyond that and give it a try!! I visited today with my family and had a blast! From the min we walked in there to the min we walked out we were screaming our heads off!! The best part is that they donated a portion to two different charities!! Great job guys!!
I’ve been to 7 this Halloween season and I must say, this by far was the scariest one I’ve been to (Bayville, bane, chamber of horrors, restless souls, dark side, blood manor ) The actors were incredible, the scenery was awesome. I paid top dollar for some of the haunted attractions and this was the most affordable and scariest one. I can’t wait till next year to experience this all over again!!!!
This is a small-business, grassroots-level haunted house run by two young guys who have a passion for set design and it really shows! The staging, acting and props are awesome and its scary too. Also, love that a portion is donated to charity. Definetly worth checking out.
I have been going to darkness rising since 2011 when they started in massapequa. This years theme is awesome! The opening really sets the stage to such a unique haunted experience. The sets and actors were amazing. Going back with more friends again next weekend. Great job as always darkness rising!
Darkness Rising was absolutely fantastic. Line moved fast and your not rushed once instead. Small groups which adds to the thrill. Rooms and theme were very well put together. Screamed and even had a few laughs at the boys getting scared too! Highly recommended. Even better its a non-profit funds go to charity.
Sadly it pains me to leave such a poor review. maybe i am spoiled from gateway haunted playhouse but i was so disappointed in this. the line was an hour line (that’s cool it’s a saturday), but there was no decorations outside - not in the holiday spirit at all. inside there were very few actors as you stroll through a maze of stacked wooden pallets in the dark. the only fun part was crawling and ultimately when you get to the end to be done so you can finally leave. the ending was extremely anticlimactic, as there was a buildup to “save the children” however the story was not carried until the end, leaving the wanderer in the haunted house thinking “uhh is this really it?” i usually appreciate the homemade vibe of a haunted house but this really was a dissapointment for adults (more for kids probably 8-13). there were about 10 actors in a 25 min walk that actually came out to “scare us”, so most of it is just wandering through palettes in the dark.
My friends and I will literally drive to NJ and PA for a good haunted attraction but Darkness Rising was out of control amazing. Though we’ve been to some really great ones, this was by far the best! I was floored by how awesome the actors were and that they do not push you through this attraction. People don’t catch up to you and you don’t catch up to the party in front. We stayed jumping throughout the entire experience. Do yourself a favor and do ittttt bc It was worth every penny!!
The beginning was very good, they told us about a story where kids were taken by evil things and we had to save them. The actors were very good and into their characters, I tried to talk to them and get them out of character but it didn’t happen. In the middle you crawl into a tunnel and for people with anxiety it might trigger an attack. The last room was my least favorite, they had witches standing there but no scares or anything and a random lady came in from the exit and started speaking to one of the witches which was very annoying. They could’ve kept the rooms going a bit more because they didn’t finish the story, what happened to the kids? Did they survive or not? We also bumped into two more teams but it didn’t bother me much because they were friends of mine. Other than the negative, I really enjoyed the experience and I like that they donate to a charity. I drove an hour away and I’m very pleased with it.
I travel the tri state area with my teenage kids each year to haunted holloween houses/ parks, etc and here are my thoughts. Darknessrising is the scariest one weve ever been too. Finally someone knows how to do it right. Genuine scares. My kids and wife literally were on the floor on a few occasions walking through.
I went to Darkness Rising last night and was ok, I had high expectations being that I had been to the NYZ Apocalypse and the reviews. Could have used more scares and actors. There was a lot of walking around in the dark which is ok but that space could have used more actors in it the few actors they had were pretty good although on actor in particular a kid his makeup was falling off during the walk. There were a couple of points during the walk that were very good. One other issue I had was that the spacing between us and the group in front of us was too close, the actors didn’t have enough time to get back to their hiding places and it kind of ruined the scare. I gave it 3 stars because some places were very good but others need some work. If it had the amount of actors of the NYZ it would have been much better.
This place is fine really wellPros:The props are very well madeThe scenes are amazing and do a great job of getting you unsettled and freaked outYou arent rushed through the maze and it takes a decent amount of timeBetter than most for profit locations ( oh yeah, this is as family and few employees that donated lots of the funds for a cause)Cons:Uneventful wait that takes a while ( but not as long as some huge attractions do. And this is because then keep your groups together so your experience isnt cheapend)The props are scarier than most of the actors who run up to you. ( A lot of the in your face actors arent scary. The ones who interact with the environment you are in and do weird stuff are much more scary)Overall if say that this is definitely at the top for haunted attractions on Long island

2021-10-02My friend and I were the first ones to experience this haunted house this year. We also went alone with no other groups, it was awesome! I’m here visiting from Florida where we have Halloween Horror Nights. For this being a private event, the story line is great. The acting was great! The scare actors were really good too! There are some really dark spots that leave you in suspense and make heart race. I love how interactive it was! One of my favorite parts was crawling through the tunnel and not knowing what the heck is next and where you’re going. Overall experience was really good. I was definitely yelling half the time 😂 The owner of the event is very sweet as for the rest of the staff too! Would definitely come back again!

2021-10-24It is a great Haunted House. The sets were large and very detailed. Love the cohesiveness of the story from the first room all these through the last room. Add in that the acting was great and it wasn’t just jump scares. The Hunter in the first room was phenomenal!! He set the stage so well and the House delivered. Definitely recommended!!

2021-10-11I went yesterday with my friends. I must say that the actors have put in so much work. The concept was amazing. The tunnel was indeed scary at the end. It is worth every penny. This year it is based on vampires. You have to make sure you dont get bitten by them. Enjoy all. Happy Halloween 🎃

2021-10-26Seriously enjoyable. This year was my first time going, and the staff left quite an impression. If you’re looking for a good scare that doesn’t hold back, Darkness Rising is the place to go. Anyone who doesn’t go is missing out.

2021-10-19Okay. I usually visit 5 haunted attractions each Halloween season and this place is ALWAYS on my list!! Every season they change the theme. All other haunted houses have rooms which have their own theme like a butcher room or clown room but this place connects like a movie and YOU are trying to escape. The jump scares are great but this year the actors were PHENOMENAL!! The whole crew works as a team keeping crowds safe and seperate. NEVER HESITATE TO GO HERE!!!!!

2021-10-18Loved it!!! We were a huge group of people and we had to split into smaller groups but we all loved it. The set was so well done and there were a few unique things that make Darkness Rising different from other haunted attractions. The price was definitely worth every penny (even though a $25 Groupon is already a steal). A must see if you live in LI or even NYC

2021-10-25Immersive, fun, scary as hell. Darkness Rising isnt so much of a haunted house as it is a haunted city. The environment created by the great minds behind Darkness Rising is filled to the brim with intricate sets and scares around every corner (and in every storefront, house, and dark alleyway). Every one of the actors go for maximum scares (and they deliver). Expect to be just as terrified of what is chasing you as you are awed by the design of your surroundings. Darkness Rising broke the mold of the traditional haunted house and I cannot wait to experience what horrors come bursting out of their heads next year.
