Davids Cafe is hands down the best spot to chill and have an amazing meal. Healthy fresh and very creative when it comes to Davids meals especially the brunch menu. The rustic and unique setting captures the energy and feeling of being in the right place and the vibe is amazing. The best in New York City 💯
We had a bathroom emergency and stopped asking if we could use the restrooms. We got a yes no problem. We stopped for a few beers and some lemonade and just loves the atmosphere! Can’t tell anything about the food, but the location and the place are just perfect! Thanks for helping us!
They don’t serve from David’s cafe, only the sister restaurant Isabelles, before 5pm and they only serve cocktails at brunch. None of this is very clear from the menu or the website. We arrived before 5 so started with a carbonara. The burger is what they’re known for and it’s very good and the servers were attentive.
This place was such a great find as my friend and I were strolling through St Marks. This modestly named spot serves arguably one of the best Italian American dishes. I had the Chicken Marsala and pâté. Their outdoor heated patios and lighting made for a pleasant experience. There were live jazz musicians (although they might not be present every time) and this made our evening extra delightful.
Davids Cafe is a great little hole-in-the-wall cafe. The food is well thought out and executed with excellence. For the second time in my three years in New York, I didnt have to send back my poached eggs for being overcooked. The pairing of the remoulade sauce with the crab cake Benedict was a nice change from the traditional hollandaise sauce.I would highly recommend people to visit the cafe, but make sure you place a reservation in advance and be prepared to wait for a table. Its worth the wait.
Came for the pancakes, and was SO disappointed by them- they tasted like they’re from a box (dry, flavorless, flat). Was also shocked they had no alternative milk for their coffee- how is this possible these days? However, the side potatoes were really good (probably the highlight), and my friends French toast was good!
Went for brunch on a Saturday, didnt have a reservation. If you show up at 11 when they open its likely youll find a table (whole party needs to arrive to be seated), but it quickly fills up 11:30 onwards and will stay busy. My friends arrived late so ended up chatting at the bar with Damien (barman from Lyon) who is very friendly and informative - not only about the menu but also local places to see and things to do in NY. All staff were very friendly in general, the food was delicious (we had the crab cake and croque monsieur) and space was adorable.
Cosy French-influenced cafe, with well-made food from appetizers such as pate to dinner plates with fish and steak. The salads are voluminous, and might stand on their own as a meal.Happy-hour specials include beer, wine, and their signature hamburgers. The dessert menu is small: mille-feuille and chocolate cake. Both are delicious. The staff are friendly and welcoming.
Brunch was amazing! My girlfriend order the steak (well-done) & fries with over easy eggs, and I ordered eggs over medium salad & olive seasoned home fries. We had no complaints everything was so tasteful. I order a latte and surprisingly it was so good. Heads up they only have whole milk for coffee no other option. The vibes here is good, Restaurant is clean, staff is so sweet & amazing.Wait time 10m-15m which isn’t that bad.
I left a review on rest and need to leave one here. This place is amazing do yourself a favor and go! I was on a super tight schedule me and my group were part of a performance and needed to leave at an exact time. I made the reservations and the restaurant staff aware of our needs and they were amazing super accomadating and the food came out delicious with lightning speed. We were able to get in and out quickly and the staff was kind attentive fantastic. I will definitely be back for a leisurely day with friends when we have time to relax and enjoy the ambiance more. It was also super cute and very clean has two restrooms which is a big plus. Did I mention great food. I had the crab cakes Benedict so good!!
Great brunch, questionable service. The food was quite good, but after we were eating my friend asked our waiter for orange juice and he said that we had already been there for an hour and needed to leave - but no one had brought us a bill. A few minutes pass and he brought 2 orange juices, comped them, but it was very odd.
Another great brunch spot! The food was amazing! I didn’t get to take a picture of the food, but I got one of our drinks. The service was pretty slow, but they could just be understaffed due to covid. They were also super busy. I highly recommend this place for brunch!!
I went here months ago with my parents for brunch while they were visiting from out of town. The reviews looked and I mean it shares my name so it would have to be great right?? Went there and the exceptionally friendly staff were able to squeeze us in despite it being very busy and crowded. I got their award winning burger at the waiters suggestion. Maybe it was my expectations as it is ‘award winning’ so I was looking forward to more but I have to say it was very underwhelming. My father had the same and shared my thoughts.Don’t get me wrong, it is a neat place with great service and good vibes all around. I was just very underwhelmed by the food. Despite being named David, I by no means have a sophisticated ‘award winning’ palate so maybe it’s me. Other people seem to like it. Maybe it was an off day. Everything else was exceptional hence why 3 stars and not less. Will likely go back at some point and give it another shot. Check out the pictures of the cool exterior!
Ive been to Davids Cafe twice, and my experience shows that customer service can make or break a place. The food has been great both times. The second time I went, everything went well for most of my visit. My fiance and I each ordered a glass of wine, the food came out minutes after we ordered it, and it was delicious. After our food was taken away, they brought our check and we paid. About 5 minutes after we paid, we were each finishing up our 1 glass of wine (I had about 2 sips left), and the waiter came over and told us that there were people waiting to be seated, and pressured us to get up and leave. I looked up, and there were 3 people standing near the door waiting to be seated. We had been at the restaurant for less than an hour, and had just spent $75. I have gone to a lot of restaurants in my life, and have never been pressured to get up and leave after being at the place less than hour, just because there were a few people waiting to be seated, who had been there less than 10 minutes. I am extremely disappointed in the level of respect and appreciation that Davids Cafe showed to us, two people who would probably have continued to make Davids Cafe a regular dinner spot.
What a find. Small, inconspicuous spot with delicious food. French flair. Pork chop was big and tasty. Mamas salad was fantastic. Ramen Mac was exceptional. Fries crispy and nice. Even the sauteed spinach was on point. Good service too and very reasonable prices. This place is a total find and worth multiple return trips.
To make the place COVID appropriate, Davids Cafe has setup outdoor seating with wooden partitions and heaters. But overlooked the first step! The server was not wearing the mask properly - the mask was not covering his nose. Had to point it out to him a couple times. Not okay!We ordered fries and asked for chipotle mayo with it and was charged $2 just for that tiny cup of mayo!!!! Specially the server not informing us that it would be extra charge. For the veggie burger, we asked if it was home made or not... what we got was a frozen patty warmed up and the burger was not completely warm to begin with! Not a good experience. I will not go back here. Most importantly, because I did not feel that there were any COVID safety measures.
Fabulous service on a Friday night thanks to Ernesto and the friendly team here. Have been searching for the best classic burger across the city. Finally found it here. Delectable meal and just a great atmosphere. Come here for a delicious meal and quality time with friends -- perfect for that kind of gathering.
I really really liked Davids Cafe, not just because there was only a 15 minute wait as opposed to Cafe Mogador which was 30-45 minutes, but because the brunch Steak and Eggs ($21) I had was incredibly different from dishes with the same name from other brunch places.First, chimichurri sauce. Then, peppers and onions and Im sure many other unnamed spices contributing to the flavor bomb. Similar to Brazilian cuisine, theyll put a partially cooked egg on top of steak, a combination I like because you have the rough hanger steak and then you have the runny yolk to complement it. There were also roasted potatoes that were drenched in the same flavor sauce.Im also glad they didnt put Balsamic vinaigrette on the mixed greens; I personally dislike it, and many places just dress the salads with it without first asking. The wait for the food wasnt too bad, about 10-15 minutes for all our dishes to come at once. The water pitcher was also refilled promptly; a waiter even refilled my glass of water a couple of times, even though one would assume having the pitcher there means self-serve.I know the prices have gone up quite a bit since 2-3 years ago (when looking at the menu), but considering the rent and also how good the food is, I would definitely come back, maybe the Orange Blossom Pancakes which looked so thick and good!
A cozy space and a friendly staff, this restaurant boasts a fantastic burger. It didnt disappoint. Portions are relatively large here, so you do get your bang for your buck. However, the kitchen hours follow the general east village trend of shutting down between lunch and dinner, so check the time before heading out here or you may find yourself sitting at their (arguably well stocked) bar.
Waited in line to be seated for brunch but the line moves very quickly. Kitchen was fast and service was attentive. Boyfriend ordered the burger which lived up to the hype. I ordered the farmer’s omelet — the side potatoes and bacon were great. The person next to me ordered the french toast and I want to come back to try it!
Ive dined at Davids Café twice now, and I cant recommend it enough. Once during happy hour, I ordered the burger -- which has won an award in the past -- and it was incredibly tasty. It came with fries and wine or beer, costing around $20 for the entire meal. Ive also been for dinner, ordering the chicken liver pate, steak frites, and pork old fashioned -- all were terrific. Additionally, the staff is friendly, and the decor/vibe is cute and bistro-y. I cant wait to return!
Excellent burger with good wine based drinks. Need to dock a star for our poor service though. Waited 20 minutes to order after sitting down and another 20 before drinks were delivered. Watched our server on his phone in the corner while we were waiting which was disappointing.
- Burger is good. A little bit of chopped onion hidden in the lettuce I think. Bun is good, sesame seeds on both top and bottom of bun. Burger is the 2 thin patty version. Fries are decent- Fish and chips - wedge fries are good. Fish is nicely battered and good amount of fish in it. Not just batter. Batter a bit on salty side thoughReasonable prices
Had the fish and chips. Batter was light and crispy and the fish was fresh. The chips were large potato wedges and were also crispy on the outside and light and airy in the inside. We didnt have reservations but were able to get a table quickly. There was a constant flow of customers and pretty much every table was filled. Definitely want to try out the burger which is what they are known for. Service was quite and friendly. Glad we randomly found this place.
The Moroccan place across the street had a wait that was too long so we popped in here. The meal was stellar (we ordered one Norwegian Benedict for the two of us which was just enough), the atmosphere was very cozy and inviting and our service was great. If I was down this way again and wanted a solid brunch Id head here!
Awesome menu for foodies on a budget. Friendly, knowledgeable staff and not just about whats on their menu. Service is always great when Im there. Some people/restaurants take for granted serving hot food, not Davids. Food is always served hot which is something I appreciate, theres nothing better than taking a bite out of lukewarm chicken/steak/veggies when ur paying for a meal in a well respected restaurant. Drink menu is great.
I have been for brunch and dinner. The food is really great - standard american with a french twist. The service was not as great in the brunch time hour. Also something to keep in mind is that they dont have a hard liquor license... Overall still a lovely place to go!
Incredible francophone style bistro. Had brunch there on a sunny Saturday where classic drinks like the Kir Royal or carafes of Raspberry Blinis flowed. Their berry smothered pancakes or fluffy and buttery French Toast are phenomenal table shares while the sun light pours in from oversized street facing windows. Eating on beautiful barn style antique tables and the friendly service give an air of hearty and healthy ingredients. Cute is definitely a word I would use to describe it, while still being a fun enough atmosphere and menu to really enjoy small friend group gatherings, a meal with a lady friend or even by yourself to read the paper.
Im glad I found this lovely place. The Chef cooked at the best places in Europa. I had the Chicken under the brick and it feels like falling in love to Sophie Marceaux for the first time. Oh my: This was simply the best. Feel the herbs, the butter, the Chicken, take a piece of braid and taste the flavours.
I just called to see if it was possible to change my reservation this evening and was rudely spoken to by a man. As I repeated myself and the request he yelled at me telling me to stop and that he was going to cancel my reservation and promptly hung up. For literally no reason.I called back to get his name and was surprised to hear he was one of the owners, Danny. I cant imagine treating a customer in that way especially if it was MY own business.I have been here before and the food is good, however I prefer to be treated in a kinder fashion. Ill take my money and my friends down the street.
The food here is always good. Its pretty common lunch and dinner menu items are a little on the expensive side but there is usually no wait. That said if your outside cafe Mogador looking at a 20 minute wait for brunch its not a bad compromise. The eggs Benedict are awesome.
If your a foodie and wine lover as myself, then you will appreciate the gourmet quality and culinary techniques available to you at Davids Cafe. The French meets American flare hits all the classics one craves from a spot on steak and tuna tartare, octopus grilled to perfection, and the classic steak frites. Brunch is all you desire on a beautiful weekend, strolling through the E.V. The best variety of egg benedicts, to your perfect hangover remedy, the Hangover Poutine a guilty pleasure of a juicy beef patty smothered with a fancy, cheesy peppercorn sauce. La Colombe Coffee and Drink selections are just as premium. Great selection of quality wine and craft beers, not to mention a delicious creamy sparkling rose for $10 a glass!!!! Cant beat this place at these prices, and the ambiance is super casual. They have a great happy hour too featuring their award winning Burger Queenand beer for $15!

2022-07-01The crab cake Benedict and the French Roast were both awesome! The Benedict came with great potatoes and a side salad as well. It was one of the best French Toasts I’ve ever had, I’m not sure how they got the bread so crunchy and the inside so gooey. There caramelized bananas on top were great too. The ice coffee was not great though, all the ice in it melted, but it was only $2 at least.

2022-07-10I went during brunch and I had the burger and peach sangria. I enjoyed them both and I felt the burger was a generous portion at a great price. Service was great and I could see how hard they were working during such a busy brunch. Thank you for the great food and service.

2021-09-20The food here was spectacular. We came in for brunch around 2:30PM on a Saturday and we were seated only after a 3-5 minute wait. We ordered the crab cake Benedict, the orange blossom pancakes and a side of smoked salmon. For drinks we ordered a raspberry Bellini and an apple rosé sangria— so refreshing and pretty strong! Everything was fantastic. 10/10 experience.

2021-10-14This space is mammoth and huge! Indoors and out just great seating. Bright lights, big, airy and spacious. The hamburger is their specialty. Its like the greatest Big Mac you would ever have. Two all beef patties, special sauce, cole slaw on a sesame seed bun - DELICIOUS. French fries too crispy and delicious. Moules frites and crab cake also delicious.

2022-06-11Delicious brunch! I had the Farmer Omelette and Iced Latte. The omelette was the perfect French omelette with lightly crisp bacon. The home fries flowers well seasoned and the salad was a great side to complement this dish. The iced latte came unsweetened so I had to add my own sugar in (there was no regular sugar in our container holder though).

2022-05-07Without exaggeration I just had one of the best burgers I’ve ever had in my life. I think it ruined most other restaurant burgers for me - the thin double stack is the way to go. Why more places don’t do this is beyond me. Perfection, highly recommend. Was in during a packed brunch rush and the staff was killing it. Attentive, super friendly, quick turnaround when parties left, and cleaned tables and bar area between patrons. Worth the wait in line for brunch.

2021-07-24Was really excited about the fried chicken sandwich because I was thinking “if it’s $17 whole dollars it must be amazing”. Wrong!! I felt like this sandwich was mainly fried crumbs. The piece of chicken was so thin and most of it was just the fried breading that goes on top of the chicken. For how expensive it was I was extremely underwhelmed. The iced coffee is pretty burnt and the fries were meh. Service was fine but I heard someone raving about a salad so maybe go for that.

2022-07-10I had heard that the burger was one of the best in Manhattan and it did not disappoint. In fact, probably one of the best burgers Ive ever had. Although I havent tried the entire menu, the burger is worth a 5 star rating.
