Food is very tasty, a bit on the pricier side for street food in the area, but still totally worth it. They even gave me a complimentary samosa! Dont order delivery from here though, they take forever (and I ended up canceling the order) and are pretty incompetent on the phone.
Had high hopes but ended up disappointed. I ordered the chicken biryani and mango lassi. The chicken biryani wasnt really biryani at all. It was lacking in the proper spices and tasted like white rice, oil, and regular cooked chicken. The mango lassi was a bit mediocre and also really thick and difficult to drink through the straw.
Desi galli is my go-to when I want quick indian food that just satisfies like comfort food. Ive been ordering fairly regularly for over a year now and the food always comes piping hot. My favorite dish is the palak paneer, although the tikka masala and 7 vegetable vegan curry is also regularly ordered. One time they let me know the masala tea would probably be too bitter because it was late in the day, and recommended something else, which I really appreciate. Delivery is always fast for me too! Usually around 30 minutes, one time it was a little over 15. Very happy to see them staying in the neighborhood.
Delicious food with authentic vibes. This place has great vegetarian and vegan options. Generous sitting space compared to other New York restaurants. Friendly and quick service. Food and curry could have been more authentic, but the taste was still great. Great for throwing parties on a moderate budget, with an Indian ambience and yet healthy food. Five stars.
5 star review went down to a one star and less if I could review. Super disappointed in this place. I have been a customer here for years !There food quality amazing and tasty - big portions of food. The reason to come here!!! - all went down the drain! The food quality went down so much. They don’t really care. They just used PRE PACKAGED EVERYTHING FROM NAAN TO RICE TO THE CURRIES.They used to give huge khathi rolls and big portions of fries with the combos. Now I got a medley small roll and a counted number of fries it seems. Asked the lady what happened and she said sorry it’s cuz u got a combo. What an excuse. Well I guess enough of an excuse to lose a long time customer. We spent $30 here on this last trip currently sitting here writing this review - just khathi roll combo and chicken Tikka masala. Both small portions and not worth eating here from the entire strip on Lexington at all.
Stopped in after I saw samosa chaat for 4.99. What a steal! Spicy green chutney is absolutely mouthwatering and the toppings of tamarind and tomatoes as well as yogurt sauce to cool down is such a perfect combination!! The portion size is appropriate for the price, and food was served within 5 minutes! Love it and will definitely come back :]
This place is proper indian place. You will get all indian dishes. Regarding quality of food, it is really good. Not spicy but that can be customized according to your needs. Overall a nice place to grab food and go. The seating is in the basement and that is not something that I like. I never sit there and eat. Also sometimes, the service has been really bad. My order was given to someone else and they took whole lot more to prepare food again. If they imporve upon these 2 mentioned things, it would be my perfect go to restaurant. :)
Desi Galli is my go to chaat bar and catering service in New York! Pria does a great job with this place, so customer-focused and timely and fantastic with all her recommendations! I used their catering service for my daughters first birthday to spice up the snack variety for adults attending the party and it was such a treat! We had to do it again for her second birthday party too! It was a win-win for all our guests.
Indian soda, a good (by English standards so maybe not good unless youre English) chicken tikka masala and hot fresh naan. Pretty damn great for a little hole in the wall looking place. It has a bit of seating downstairs but nothing fancy. Good service too! Oh, and an Indian take on poutine is a quirky little bonus.
Not so great but as there are very few chat place, this is one of the best when it comes to Chaat, it includes all chaat - Palak Chat, Aloo Tikki Chat, Samosa Chat and even samosa is good. Tea is pathetic here, seems they served the same tea in evening what they prepared in morning.
Ive been coming here monthly for the last year. The seating area downstairs is a little lacking in atmosphere but the food makes up for that. My favorite chat is pani puri (puffed rice with chutneys) and they do a good version here. I was here again over Thanksgiving when they were doing turkey kati rolls. I like their tamarind and cilantro chutneys and the kati roll was not greasy like some other places. Staff are friendly as well.Tip - join their mailing list to hear about upcoming promotions like 2-4-1 kati rolls.
I went to this place hoping to get some good Indian chaat. While they have decent variety of dishes ranging from sev puri to samosa chaat, I must say that I was a bit disappointed in their pani puri the flavoring of which seemed too strong. The taste of the panI in pani puri does affect the overall experience and I would say that there are other spots in the city where you can get much better pani puri.
I love my those tasty Kathi rolls though we actually call them Frankies or just rolls back home. Discovered this spot when I was close and looking to fix that kathi roll cravings.Since my first visit I have been back here multiple times. I love their Kathi Rolls , somebody who appreciates good flavor, authentic spices will know these rolls are way better than the ones at the Kathi Roll Company.I tried various rolls my personal favorites are the ones with bhurji and lamb. They give the green chutney (sauce) which has a really nice spicy kick to it. Unline Kathi Roll Company they dont charge for the sauce. They have an extensive menu and serve a whole lot of Indian snacks here. I will hopefully try those during my next visit.Staff is uber friendly and nice.Definitely my go to Kathi Roll Spot.
Absolutely crappy food. The pav bhaaji flavor isnt even close to what it is supposed to be. Chicken biryani is nothing more than fried rice with no layering of vegetables and/or chicken. Only contains few small chicken pieces thrown here n there in the rice. For 11 bucks for a less than two scoops of rice, I think Desi gali is doing a good job in robbing people! Save your money and time, go somewhere else.
The second time I ordered and delivery took over 1 hour. When we tried to call them they just played “dumb” and said the delivery guy left already. Then when we called again to get a status of the order they hung up on us 3 times. This will never happen again because I won’t order from them. 1 1/2 hour to get 6 rolls and lassi.
SUPERB ! EXCELLENT ! AND OWESOME ....I was in NYC last 7 days and I am the pure vegetation, and also very foody person, I got this restaurant by map near by so I just visited, and took a Vegeei potato paneer roll and take away for the meeting,on the way when I ate this, oh God its really really fantastic as I dont believe that how could it was so testy, that taste is very rear in INDIA also believe me, After the meeting you cant belive guys that I went there again took one more another ROLL, and ate there only and DO thanks many times for the nice food to the sweet Girl who is also the owner of the DESI GALLI,WELL DONE ..... :)
They serve frozen - bada pav.-swad brand. I spent 4 days in NYC and I ordered bada pav and they took out frozen swad packet from freezer which was located in their dining area. If you want to eat frozen food then we can get from grocery store located next to desi gali.
If you like kathi indian rolls this is your place- was there today and had lunch special - 2 rolls for ten bucks- too filling for me though- very casual place good for lunch- if you want fancy this is not the place for you- was there today and the food is quality- they have pitchers of water so if you are thirsty you do not have to buy a drink-good value
TLDR: Mediocre food, terrible manager, laughable delivery times. Like many others have said, the portions are small and the service/manager are terrible. The delivery took 1hr 55mins! They had a promo for a free item so we ordered that (multiple) and other regular item. They changed the order from 5 items to 2, didnt call us, manager was unrelenting, took 2 hrs to get this food. Any other respectable would call you to let you know if there is any variation to the order. Not this place, they couldnt care less. Better options in the area.

2022-05-02A lot of places were packed and me and my friends wanted somewhere to sit and eat and break our fast so we came here and there was plenty of space food wasn’t bad but I wanted spicy but it was like medium spicy. I got a aloo paneer kathi roll with the drsipouttine fries and green chutney on the side and my friends got a tikka chicken kathi roll and samosa chaat. The only reason I’m giving four stars because they charged nearly 3$ for a 1$ dollar bottle like what’s with the bottle price inflation?

2017-07-20Very basic Indian restaurant.. you can definitely find a better tasting spot to eat at or order from. I ordered it as take-out.. delivery time and prep was fine but the food itself was not exciting. Not a flavorful chicken biryani, now I get why it was a decent price and other nearby spots may charge more but you get your moneys worth! I would pass on this spot for sure.

2018-04-03The menu is versitile, and has good options for a quick grab. Definitely the best thing to try is the Desi poutine. Its a great twist to poutines and was mouthwatering. And next was the chat (aloo tiki chat) it was also done well, it had the Indian feel to dish. The wraps are also good but not as good as the other dishes. The Desi poutine steals the show and would recommend it highly.

2019-04-19Didnt think this lived up to the hype. Saw ads for this everywhere and decided to give it a try. Not worth 9.95, very little paneer and the sauce was average. Fries were cooked very well however.

2019-09-06The first time I came here I had a roll and it was fine but I went back for poutineand was very very disappointed by the amount of cheese on the fries. (tikka masala sauce was packed separately)

2022-01-16Ordered $45 worth of food but the full order was so small … ordered 2 pav bhaji orders n it is so small I also ordered extra pav and total provided only 4 pav for both orders ….. Ordered a Kati roll n it is just one small roll … really pathetic …. I am officially never coming here again.
