Devocin in other cities:
Just as good as Devocion’s Brooklyn locations! I’ve never had a bad coffee at Devocion, and I love the decor which always includes plants, comfy couches, a skylight (when possible - the Grand Street location in Williamsburg is definitely the most beautiful one) and a cozy vibe.Cannot wait for the Dumbo location to open!
2022-Jul-31 update: changing my original 5-star review to a 1-star due to staff putting customers at food safety risk!!!On July 29th Oatly issued recall for their barista milk due to potential bacteria contamination. On July 31st, 9:30am when ordering my coffee at this place I noticed Oatly Barista being used at this location and upon comparing the UPC code on their packaging with the ones being recalled, told the barista and the cashier that this product isn’t safe and being on FDA.gov recall list. Was shocked by staff’s response: “so, you don’t want oat milk in your coffee?” and they continued serving this milk to other customers. This is basic food safety procedure every staff serving food should know and apparently this location’s staff isn’t trained enough to understand food safety!Original review:Expertly crafted coffee drinks, perfect croissants and artfully decorated and spacious interior- such a magic combination that makes this a great coffee shop!
Great for getting some work done on your laptop while enjoying your coffee! I was very productive working there. Such delicious coffee with refreshing vibes in a great part of the city!! What else can you ask for? Seemed busy so it can be tricky to find a table (I got lucky!) pastry options were limited
It seems like Im a lone dissenter here, but to be honest I never really felt the staffs were friendly to me. While waiting in line I could see one staff saying hi to customers in front of me while taking orders, but never to me. I had to say hi first and she just stared at me with a stone cold face, every time I visited Devoción. Not a really great experience to have.
Devocion is a stylish coffee shop and roastery serving fine caffeinated brews and small eats. it is close to both Union Square & Madison Square Park. the large interior is aesthetically pleasing with its use of wood, open brick, and modern sensibilities to create an oasis for coffee addicts. there is a ton of interior seating as well as covered outside seating. this is a busy shop, so don’t be surprised by a small line inside.my go-to is the nitro cold brew. it’s smooth and delicious. everything you want in a cold brew…strong coffee in a chilled pour. quality of coffee is evident in coffee sorcery at Devocion. my only knock on it is the serving is soooooooooo small like 12 oz small (i think) and is priced around $5ish + tax + tip. again, wish it was a larger size though.staff is fast, not much chatter.
I have so much to say about this place !I go at least once a week and the coffee is … so good ! There’s a few tables and seating areas and a large sofa. You can definitely enjoy your coffee indoorsThe only thing that is missing is light, it is not their fault, it will change when the scaffolding will be removed. The staff is wonderful !
Incredible coffee! Espresso was so good I ordered another, lol! The place has a very cozy but active vibe and fruit drink my partner had was very good too! Staff was knowledgeable, friendly, and very nice in spite of how busy the place was and they chewed through a line of 10+ in no time so if it looks like it might be a wait, I say itll be worth it.
Awkward space planning, drip was average, espresso drinks were hot and well pulled. This location (there are three in NYC) always seems to have a line snaking through the tables, patrons pushing into seated elbows, awkward entry exit point. The big BK location is much better. Often times courtesy is second to expediency here. Also this random Thursday two of the three staff were late for work, the whole shop noticed due to the employee’s loud apologies. Still a great shop, best in the vicinity. Good place to go during a visit to the nearby farmers market on Saturdays. Not good to meet multiple friends or plan to sit awhile.
Highly recommend. The ambiance is terrific and the coffee is better. Better than Bluestone Lane! Great Slayer coffee machine. IMO better than typical La Marzacco machines at Irving Farm, Gasoline Alley, and other boutique looking shops. I live for this quality of coffee
Really lovely coffee in the area. Of all the devocion locations, this space is smaller and not as beautifully decorated, but the coffee tastes as great as all the other locations. Id recommend a visit to other locations for more seating, as this one is almost always packed.
A wonderful addition to the neighborhood (about a year old as of January 2020). The coffee beverages are excellent, the pastries are very good (try the spinach feta croissant), the staff is friendly, and the space is hip and high-ceilinged. It also has a big, clean private bathroom. I just wish that it had (1) a broader selection of pastries and (2) more seating. Its a popular hangout and the tables are well-spaced, i.e., not crammed in, so seating runs out quickly. I will definitely return.
➕Great pastries (Guava and dulce de leche delicious)!➖Strong coffee, and staff was a bit sassy.➖Also, it was freezing inside and they didnt seem to have adjusted the temperature when asked. It was to the point where it was uncomfortable and couldnt work like intended, so had to leave and find a different place.
I really enjoyed my latte both times we stopped by. The shop is pretty and service was great. They have milk available if you need to add some extra. The only problem is that’s impossible to sit anywhere. The place is packed with people with laptops and they stay there all day. We stopped by on weekend and during weekday and it was the same. There was no available tables and waiting for one accomplished nothing.
Beautiful space, with natural light from the skylight and some hanging greenery, a couple amazing leather couches, good amount of two-person table seating, and some of the BEST Colombian coffee around. Only food options are pastries. No WiFi on weekends. Will definitely be back!
What a comfortable and airy Cafe with bricks and “green” chandelier in Flatiron district. Devoción is a 100% Colombian Coffee house... was told the beans are sourced right from Colombian farmers and roasted never more than 10 days later in its Williamsburg Roastery. I was luckily today to have the barista taking time to prepare my Colombian Pour Over with passion!
Devocion coffee is outstanding. I had a pour over that was so smooth with a nice fruit note...so good my wife drank it black and she never does (natural process, Columbia). My Cortado was well crafted and tasted great. Cookies and pastries were good, Id recommend the warm Snickerdoodle cookie. Staff was friendly, space was modern and cool, what youd expect from a NYC coffee house. Come here and sample their great coffee, youll not be disappointed.
My husband is a coffee fanatic, so I’ve tasted it all and people, this place has some very good cappuccino. Took a couple friends there too and they were big fans of the (almond milk) cappuccino. The apple/strawberry/spearmint Aromatica was tasty and a whole aesthetic experience. Guava croissant 10/10The decor is beautiful, but seats are usually all taken!
They have fantastic Colombian coffee! The best I’ve had in New York so far & a great, welcoming environment with a really pretty, lush and green centrepiece. They also have free WiFi on offer and power outlets that are easily accessible. It’s a wonderful spot to work from. The servers are really nice and very knowledgeable.
Great coffee, cute space, and a few interesting and delicious drinks you won’t find elsewhere. The sparkling cascara is a perfect refreshing drink, and the aromatica is an indulgent take on tea, brewed with dried fruits and very yummy. The space is inviting with just enough seats and couches.
I think they try to strike a balance with the space they have. Not a lot of seats and that drives people crazy but at the same time when youre seated youre happy that were not right on top of each other. I enjoyed the coffee and my time here, cold brew was pretty potent and tastes great..
I got a cortado here and it was pretty bad. I think there is nothing wrong with the quality of the coffee used. However, the staff are rude and there was not even a small attempt to make any kind of latte art. They just dumped hot milk into an espresso shot basically. I think if the owner is reading this, you need to have a word with your staff about quality control.
While the indoors looks nothing short of amazing the cortado I had was definitely nothing worth coming back for. I ordered it with oat milk and the Toro blend of beans which smell really nice in the bag. However the way it was extracted still had plenty of room for improvement, since the taste profile was simply flat. I exclusively drink oat milk flat whites and cortados, also at home, even with the exact milk they use here, and therefore I can pretty certainly say with confidence, that the coffee was lacking body and also acidity.
Devocion has it all! they do specialty coffee right — some of the BEST i have had in NYC. their black coffee and espresso are divine, and that’s all you really need... it’s a beautiful space with plants and a rustic, minimalist interior. they serve a refined selection of excellent pastries… i get the leek & parmesan croissant.
I just left the cafe at 12:50 pm . Date December 5 2021.They get mad when you ask them to change your coffee because it’s warm almost cold . I had a latte with a lot of foam and very warm + taste all milk , the lady who’s working in this location said this is how the latte supposed to be in a rude way!!! . She ask the guy to remake it but he got mad also. When he finished he almost throwing the cup on the table . I didn’t taste it again but I throw it in the trash . Never come back
Excellent coffee done right if you like light roasts with floral notes... like a great tea, but coffee. Drink it black and enjoy the rare treat of coffee that tastes the way it should. I never really had time to hang out there but it has a great vibe and, before COVID, I would see lots of people hanging out there (big demand for seating). Theyve moved to door-front service only during the pandemic, not sure if theyre even still open but I hope they survive the shut down.
I had a short business meeting here. It’s s suitable place, but I wouldn’t go back.I had hot chocolate, which was amazing. No food really... only a minimal section of pastries. No gluten free options. The ambiance is ok. Overall brightly lit & lacked any character or interesting design elements. It’s great for take out coffee & hot drinks, but no to hang out & meet a friend for coffee.
Great quality coffee but rude staff. I went to the 20th st location of Devoción and was disappointed by the person working there. (Sunday, May 16) they gave me an attitude when I asked for the wifi password and proceeded to rudely place a sign on the table I was sitting by-stating the time limit for seating. Despite there being available seating around.
Ive been going to Devoción for years. Great coffee, pastries, atmosphere. Unfortunately Ive had a few bad customer service experiences recently at the Flat Iron location. Please, dont hire people who communicate in a passive aggressive manner. Im ultra polite and smiley so I dont deserve that
I have been coming to this Devocion ever since they opened, even during the pandemic panic I came to support them. But recently they have been charging extra for less ice, the reasoning was more milk cost money. I have drank coffee/tea all over the world and never been charged extra before. Today I came in ordered, then forgot to ask for less ice, told the lady afterward to put less ice, she said :Oh I should of charged you for that, you know I ALWAYS charge you for that. I cant believe theyr that CHEAP, just for a few extra drops of milk will make them lose a loyal costumer. Im sorry im going to give my $$ to other coffeeshops now.Coffee 5/5Environment 5/5Staff 1/5Extra charge for less ice 0/5
One of my favorite coffee shops except that the Saturday morning baristas are repeatedly not nice. They dont return my “good morning” or smile which is fine but two Saturdays in a row, the drip tasted off. I politely let them know the second time I noticed but they seemed offended. Repeat customers shouldn’t have to deal with that kind of attitude
Wanted to check out this Chelsea location since I’ve been to the one in Williamsburg and liked it. It was ok and cute enough but was rather small with limited seating and not much selection in terms of pastries and such. Maybe because I expected more...It is a long narrow space and didn’t really feel intimate nor interesting in any way. I often go to different coffee places for atmosphere in addition to the coffee. If you’re in the area and want a reliable coffee that is not a chain then it’s convenient but I don’t think it is a destination in itself.
The atmosphere is really great here and the pour overs were really tasty. They were low acid and fruity and really opened up as you drank them. For the price and amount of coffee you get it was a little much, even for NYC. If cost was no object it would be a five star.
Devocions original location is a massive, gorgeous coffee shop in Brooklyn. This location is much smaller, but they borrow elements of the original. This location in the Flatiron District has brick walls, a few couches, and plants hanging from a light fixture near where you order. There are plenty of seats and many outlets throughout the space. The coffee itself is decent too!
Wish they had more coffee options, and better mugs. I’m not sure if the water was boiling or their mugs just absorb all the heat, I could barely touch and sip from it. Nothing really special with their coffee menu. But they do have Aromaticas (like fruity tea) which I love so much.
Devocion - probably one of the most elite coffee shops in New York. They serve not just quality customer service, but top notch coffee. The Cascara drink is delicious, their Americano is bomb, and each of their coffee shops have an amazing environment that really separates it from the others around the city. Will always be coming to visit when I am close by.

2022-06-03This cafe is idyllic. It’s gorgeous inside with high ceilings, great seating, and exposed brick. Their prices are fair, their location is perfect, and their coffee is delicious! Their staff was friendly and everyone seemed happy to be there! Definitely the type of place I’ll work at in the future.

2022-03-13Great coffee in a beautifully decorated local. Love the combination of coffee, flowers and natural light, with the industrial touch. The place gets busy, especially on the weekends. It would be even better if they had some books! 😁 Highly recommended! ☕️

2022-01-15Stopped by for a quick drink to-go on a relatively chilly NYC morning touring around and they did not disappoint! We ordered a cappuccino and latte both with oat milk and the coffee flavor was very rich and deep but not too bitter or sweet. Bonus points for the cute latte art. The inside had a very nice ambiance, but was very crowded. Definitely recommend!

2022-05-27Definitely worth the walk from Penn Station. Great for a grab and go or a sip and stay cup of delicious Colombian espresso. I read about this cafe when planning a quick trip to the city. The review said ‘Don’t skip the croissants’. I’m so glad I didn’t!! This was the best, fluffiest, butteriest croissant I’ve ever had. DON’T SKIP THE CROISSANTS!

2022-01-08Excellent coffee! Very classic Colombian roast flavor. They charge .75 cents extra for almond milk but the quality makes up for it. Although it was too crowded to sit anywhere Its got the best ambiance of any coffee shop Ive been to, and Ive been to a lot. Ill have to go check out the one in Brooklynn next time Im in that area.

2022-04-24Cool space and nice espresso finished in the cappuccino. Can be crowded with no seat available. No wifi. No lactose free milk. You find lactose free milk in Devoxión of Bogota. Oat milk doesn’t taste the same at all.

2022-07-10Solid place, solid employees and solid coffee. Absolutely loved the iced latte I got. They don’t need sweeteners therefore they don’t have sweeteners such as caramel or mocha. They do have raw sugar if needed.

2022-07-02The staff is attentive and friendly, big smile on her face welcoming you to order. We got draft cold brew and nitro cold brew, the later one is creamier. Hip atmosphere with table seats inside. The place absolutely saves my day from hot weather outside for a lil bit.

2022-03-01One of my favorite places around my office. Lovely decor and cozy sofa. Especially the green plants! Usually order oat milk latte.
