Cancelled Workshop without ANY Notification!I signed up for a workshop, paying in advance. I checked the Dharma’s website 2 hours before the workshop, and it showed the event was still active. However, when I arrived, the receptionist informed me it was cancelled weeks ago.I received NO notification of the cancellation: that is NO email, NO phone call, NO refund prior to my arrival. This experience cost me a 1.5 hour round trip commute, $7.00 in train fare, and the opportunity to do other fun Sunday activities.Advice to the Dharma Yoga’s Management: Treat your clients better. Yoga in NYC is a competitive industry with plenty of other Yoga studios around.
In a city with so many Yoga Studios and styles of yoga, Dharma Yoga Center really does offer something special. I began practicing yoga in about 2001, at the time I found myself going from yoga studio to yoga studio, (some of which I never even entered) in search of a yoga studio I liked. I wasnt quite sure exactly WHAT I was looking for, but I just KNEW the moment I walked in the door of the Dharma Yoga Center (the old one on 3rd ave), I just knew.... this is it! The studio felt like home. I had an immediate sense of welcoming there. I felt like this was the real deal. All of the teachers I encountered there had something unique to offer and classes were consistently great. With work, life and moving to a different state, I fell out of yoga for a while, all the while Dharma Yoga was in the back of my mind. Any time Im in NYC I visit the center and take as many classes as I can. I practice their DVDs at home and take them with me when traveling so I can practice on the road. I recently completed their 200HR Life of a Yogi Teacher Training and I was not disappointed. Life changing and now considering the 500hr!If you live in NYC or visiting do your inner self a favor and attend some classes here. Sri Dharma Mittra is truly someone special. All of the teachers here are amazing! My favorite classes : Master Class, Yoga Nidra, 5 postures for purification, Any Level Dharma Yoga class, Maha Shakti, Maha Sadhana - actually ALL of their classes! Hope you enjoy their classes as much as I have. Namaste
My girlfriend and I used our class pass to get in while I was visiting her. Im certainly not new to yoga but Im also not a yogi. This center was more than accommodating to a helping me with some of my form. When Im in town, I will try this center out again. I liked the focus on my breath. Thank you Rashila for a great experience.
One of the first books on yoga I came across was the “Asanas - 608 Yoga Poses” by Sri Dharma Mittra, which I found very inspiring and still page through on a regular basis. A couple of years later (back in 2015) I was ready to enrol in the 200-hour teacher training program at the Dharma Yoga NY Center. What followed was an extremely intense and thrilling set of 10 days, that significantly deepened my understanding of yoga and took my asana practice to the next level. It was an experience of a lifetime to study with a living legend and his senior teachers. Dharma’s piecefulness, ease and humor are contagious. Make sure to visit Dharma’s temple, if you are looking for an authentic, truly inspiring experience.
Mohawk has created an experience that is just plain right. There is a feel of positive energy the moment one enters the studio. It has a very calming effect that prepares you for the session. The instructors are personable and very helpful and do make it a point to assist newbies.
The best place to be in the whole world is at Dharma West with DharmaJi!!! Take any chance you get to be with the Master. The moment i walk into the center all of my doubt and fear immediately vanishes and i remember who i am! Every teacher at the center is amazing and will support your Yoga journey with sooo much compassion! Theres a really good chance when you walk out of the center you will be stuffed with Bliss! :-)
The classes they call Beginner are not beginner. They do shoulderstand and headstand every class which can cause serious injury to the cervical spine. They dont warm up properly. They also do very advanced back bends that can also seriously damage the spine. This is a good studio for advanced practitioners who know their body. But is NOT RECOMMENDED for people who are unfamiliar with yoga. Unfortunately, the teachers do not fully warn or explain the possible serious damage they can cause.
This was a HORRIBLE experience. I bought a groupon, and was at the check in, showing the transaction from my bank on my phone, and they wouldnt let me enter the class. Not sufficient information. Doesnt seem very yoga like. I will never go there again. A wasted groupon
Conveniently my previous post appears to be missing from their Facebook page. IF YOU ORDER, BE PREPARED TO WAIT. I ordered Dec 1st and is wasnt shipped until the 10th. Heres what their customer service had to say: We worked very hard to make your wheel and it was actually shipped much earlier than expected. Next time please place your order earlier in advanced, instead of leaving it last minuet. Have a great day. THEY CLEARLY LOVE THEIR CUSTOMERS!!

2022-04-06I have the opportunity to take classes at Dharma yoga’s New York center while visiting my parents last month. I truly enjoyed it, especially Dharma Mitra’s master class. You can feel his energy and warmth at his class. He has this unique way of teaching, makes it easier to ease in difficulty poses. Other teachers are all very good too. For only one week, I can feel the improvement of my practice. Even though I don’t live close by, they offer online classes. I would like to take more class next time I am in New York.

2015-07-13I love this place! Whenever I visit New York, Dharma Yoga is my home away from home. Ive gone just to spend a weekend practicing there. Its like getting my batteries recharged to be in that space. The studio itself is very conveniently situated in the Flatiron District. There are great vegan options right near the studio where you can get food after classes. When you get up to the studio itself its like entering a bubble where the hustle and bustle of the streets of Manhattan fade away and you feel calm and welcome. Its like a yoga oasis. With all the teachers you cant go wrong. You can tell they are there because of their love for the practice and tradition of yoga. The classes are fun and challenging. Meeting, training, and practicing with Dharma himself is a life-changing experience. Just to see him in action is a treat and inspires me to go further with my practice, finding just how much Im capable of. Thats a great teacher. He has an aura of depth but he never lets you put him up on a pedestal.Their Life of a Yogi program for current and aspiring teachers and seekers is a rare opportunity to come face to face with the living, ancient tradition of yoga. I went through the 500-hour level training. I was excited to get that certification, but I ended up getting so much more. What I really got was experience with a genuine master teacher. They have an 800-hour program which I hadnt really been thinking of taking, but after my experience with the 500 theres no doubt that I want to go further with my training with Dharma. Even if youre already certified at these levels you can still receive so much from training with Dharma. Hes known as the teachers teacher for a reason.Give Dharma Yoga a try and see what yoga really is. Namaste

2019-02-27Great non-competitive yoga vibe with an awesome sense of community amongst the practitioners. i practiced AND did a teacher-training here and regardless of what i was there to do, my takeaways were one of the greatest I have ever had the honour to have. especially when I get to meet GURUJI Dharma. I truly look forward to my next visit here for this new year.

2014-08-18I call Dharma Yoga my yoga home in NYC. I absolutely adore this place. The studio is warm and inviting. The people who run it are kind, thoughtful and dedicated. The students are open, friendly and non-competitive. The common practice in New York of looking over ones shoulder to see if theres someone doing the pose better does not happen here. This is pure and honest yoga for the sake of advancing the body, mind and soul.

2019-01-15My experience at the Dharma Yoga Center was nothing short of life changing. I attended one of Sri Dharmas Maha Sadhana on April 14, 2018 , became a vegan that day and started to think about my advanced yoga teacher training. I had always learned the best yoga through my personal practice and from a book. My favorite yoga book was The Sivananda Companion to Yoga and I would practice out of that book. It turns out Sivananda was a well respected guru of Sri. Dharma Mittras and so I was already learning some of his teachings. After 8 years of teaching yoga, I decided to participate in the Life of a Yogi 500 hour training. I knew I had found my teacher. Sri Dharma is funny, helpful in his adjustments and truly a guru. I never knew what a guru was until I practiced with Sri Dharma Mittra. He is truly the master and a loving, compassionate one at that. I always thought I had a really good heart, I would never intentionally hurt anyone, but he has shown me that my loving heart has such a great capacity. I love myself more, Im better in my personal relationships and I wish all the world to be at peace. If you are a seeker, if you love the yoga practice or just want to get started, you neednt look further than this beautiful oasis in the middle of NYC.

2017-07-20This has always been my favorite studio. I recently went to the restorative yoga class with Will and it was amazing - everything I was looking for in a restorative and meditative class. The people who work there are informed, kind and will gladly help and answer all of your questions. The location is clean, serene and peaceful. Plenty of parking in the lot and area feels safe. There are neighborhood cats :) I love it and cant wait to go back weekly

2018-05-10Good to experience, but definitely more of a spiritual yoga place than I expected. The instructor I had was a lady and very passionate about teaching us so much that class went over 30 mins. Yoga mats are $2 to rent and the facilities are really clean.
