Great food! Although there is a long wait every time I go here, it is 100% WORTH IT. Everything down to the tortillas are made in-house to order. I would reccomend everything on the menue! There is a lovely, laid back atmosphere (even though the place is very busy) and one can sit down and have a nice conversation. The staff is lovely, and the owner is a great guy to talk to. Everyone is personable.
Our dinner service was painfully slow. Everything felt very unorganized, and no effort was made to make up for the wait. The margaritas and tacos were on the pleasantly large side, with good flavor. If the service is usually better, its easy to see why this place would be so highly reviewed.
When we went and waited 40 minutes for our food and when we asked for a status update the owner came out and got upset and told us everything was made from scratch. We let it go but he did not he proceeded to come back and raise his voice at us over how many chips we had eaten. The food was mediocre at best, overall a huge waste if time and money.
2 stars for an excellent strawberry margarita. But other than that we wished we would have spent our meal in Kingston somewhere else. Upon entering we were told the menu was online but when our phones had no service( Verizon) and we asked for the wifi to view the menus she told us she didn’t know it. We asked them if they could find out so we could view the menu. they returned to say they couldn’t give it to us but we could all go look at the sandwich board outside that had the menu on it or we could look at the old menus but the prices were wrong and they didn’t have an extensive number of items listed that were rattled off. She gave us 2 menus for the five of us. Served ourselves the rest of the outdated menus after some time. Walked up to the bar to order a beer after being ignored for too long and was told everything on the beer menu chalkboard was also wrong and they had just one (unlisted) beer. Finally ordered. the food was just fine. Nothing to make up for the unsettling start of our experience. I understand this is a stressful time for restaurants and that this is an obviously very casual restaurant but an updated menu board for the inside patrons as well as the sidewalk patrons would be a simple enough fix for the menu issue. Pricepoint of “street” tacos increases your expectations for the experience. Very disappointing.
It was a road side stop on our way down to Philly and we were pleasantly surprised how good the food was. Every taco we tried was delicious. Good thing that we arrived when we did (around 6:30) because the place filled quickly. Isaac, the owner, created a friendly atmosphere. Our kids orders were mixed up but he didnt charge us for the wrong order or make a dig deal about it. Also, this place was featured on the Food Network - were lucky we tried the place before it got too popular!
This seems to be a happening place for lunch. It opens at noon and people started rolling in. The fish taco was great. Not overcooked, great flavor and the sliced lime on the side is a nice touch. The black beans had great flavor but were a little too hard. Service was fast and efficient.
One of the best restaurants in Kingston. Their creative tacos consistently impress and the staff will seat you with a smile even if its two minutes until closing. The manager usually comes by to check on everything and takes a genuine interest into your experience. Their specials rotate on a seasonal basis so dont worry if you want to try more than one in a week. Prices are reasonable, especially considering the quality of food and service.
Ive been hearing about this place for years but never found myself in the area until this past Saturday. We opened with Margaritas...wow. Guacamole,...I cant remember the names of the tacos, but beets, buffalo chicken, fried tomatoes and something sister. Be sure and check it out..P.S. they did a nice job with Covid safety (thats big for us)
As a native SF resident, this is some of the best taqueria food I have had in quite awhile--with a tasty twist on this kind of fare. The Cuban sandwich was particularly good. Nice selection of beers. Very friendly service. Will definitely return the next time I visit Kingston.
Hard to beat. The food is excellent, service is cheerful (and frequently under the owners gaze), and decor is pleasant. Prices are about what youd expect in this town, in this day and age. Not surprisingly affordable, but not bad either. If you like the Dead, youll hear old tracks playing on Pandora. The affable owner, Scott, is total Deadhead, which is alright by me. Overall, a dining experience well worth repeating multiple times.
Decent food. It is a little expensive for the ambience and food quality. A lot of the options are fried and they do not offer non-friend substitutes.Servers are very friendly and helpful; tried their best to cater to our needs and modifications. Cocktails are also good. The manager also came to the table to check if everything was good. Their hot habanero sauce was really good.
Issac is a wonderful host. He does his best to accommodate seating arrangements (during the packed evening times) and genuinely cares about his customers.Every time I eat at Diego’s Taqueria, I feel welcomed and remembered. Not to mention the SWEET BEET TACO is the most amazing taco Uptown has to offer! Also, his servers are excellent. They are attentive, accommodating and funny.Diego’s is my #1 taco spot.
I walked in expecting an exceedingly okay meal. I departed the restaurant with an exceedingly delicious and unique meal in my stomach. The server was affable, making a couple suggestions at will; she also refilled our [also delectable] tortilla chips without us having to ask. The barbacoa (pork) tacos I ordered possessed a smoky, savory taste that was paralelled by nothing I have consumed so far. Hot sauces on the table were local-- the restaurant seems dedicated to maintaining a sort of granola vibe-- and these aforementioned sauces were pleasant to my taste buds. This establishment is definitely one of the best I have visited.
Im pretty crazy about this place. I always get the fish tacos because they are THAT good. Today I made myself try three other types and Im headed home to try them. Great place to swing by after work and grab some dinner. Some time I will have to stay and have my supper there so that I can try some of their amazing looking cocktails.
We had such a delicious meal here! They had heat lamps and such a delicious strawberry maragarita made with fresh strawberry puree!Their fried cauliflower + 3 sisters was a delicious vegetarian option. The waitress was kind enough to give us a vegan version as well.Love this place, great music and great prices. Thanks for the yummy food + good vibes. 😊
This place has amazing food. The street corn chowder is great. Two tacos will fill you up. Really cool ambiance that gives you an island vibe. The staff and owner are friendly and care that you have a great experience.P.S.- They are opening one in the SUB building at SUNY New Paltz.
We had a girls night at Diegos on Friday. The whole experience was exactly what we hoped. While it was bumping in there at 7:30 on a Friday we only had a five min wait for the bar. A table opened up a few moments later but we enjoyed chatting with the other people so opted to stay at the bar.All of the food was really fresh. The chips came out warm and not overly salted. We tried both the green and red salsas. The owner told us they make the salsas fresh everyday and char the tomatillos in house - the freshness came through. We each tried the tacos. The winning dish was the beet tacos but I also loved the barbacoa. GET THE CORN TACO SHELL it is the best, most fresh shell. I never order the corn shell but at the owners suggestion we did and I was not disappointed. As a beer girl, the beer selection, while mainly bottles, was on point~ nice selection of local wines, beers and ciders. Hope they eventually get a liquor license for margaritas!I Went back the next day for more chips and tomatillo. Loved sitting at the bar.So excited to get back there. A nice addition to Kingston.
This a beautiful restaurant that makes exceptional food. I get food to go quite often and never once have I been dissatisfied with the quality. Even if youre not a vegan or vegetarian youre bound to enjoy their 3 sisters taco, which is made with black beans, zucchini, yellow squash, and corn. That and the pescado (fried cod) tacos are probably my favorite foods to eat, ever. If you are a vegan or vegetarian, be sure to try their cauliflower pescado. You wont be disappointed. Not a fan of vegetables or fish? Then go for the Al Pastor (sweet & spicy roasted pork w/ grilled pineapple). Their elotes (street corn) is delicious as well.
I was that parent tonight.I brought my two year old to try the restaurant since were new to Kingston and have heard many great things. She ended up having a terrible-two episode to the first degree right as our meal arrived. I stepped outside twice to try to cool her off and not inconvenience any of the customers. I was feeling completely distraught and emotional because I couldnt get her to cooperate. The service, price point and atmosphere was perfect, BUT the owner went above and beyond to completely make my night. Since I didnt want to go back into the restaurant with a screaming child and as emotional as I had become, the owner came up to me and asked if I would like to have our meals packaged up and my things brought out to me. When I offered to pay he wouldnt accept because he knew I was really struggling with her.His response was something along the lines of, Dont worry about it! Times are rough. We all need to treat one another better. Well see you soon. Have a good night!THAT was the most heartfelt customer service I have ever received!! THAT is how we should treat each other. THAT is the kind of business owner you want to support. THAT was a completely selfless act and Im so thankful. The food was absolutely delicious even when we got home. Everything was fresh and flavorful! I cannot wait to try everything on the menu!
This place is consistently good! Creative but authentic at the same time. You order tacos one at a time and Ive found that two is plenty. Guacamole is fresh and delish as are the two types of salsa (though Id like them to have one much spicier option!). Atmosphere is laid back, casual and fun. As an added bonus (for me), the owner is a stealth DeadHead (meanign you wouldnt know it by looking at him) so they tend to play a lot of Grateful Dead tunes (but enough other stuff too). Great addition to Uptown Kingstons Stockade District.Oh....very good beer list too!

2021-10-09I cannot recommend the strawberry margarita enough!! So many places use mixes or syrups, and Diego’s used simple ingredients to make such a clean, crisp drink. We were able to sit outside with our dog, and the staff was nice enough to bring out a little water dish for her.I had the 3 sisters taco - it was good but simple, so I used their kiwi jalapeño hot sauce to give it some flavor pop. My boyfriend really liked the cauliflower bites. Really nice local spot :)

2022-05-27Came to this area for work from Pennsylvania. This made the 4.5 hour trip in the car worth it. Friendly staff, quaint little atmosphere, excellent food. Limited seating but so worth the wait. Slaw was very light and pleasing to the palette. Street tacos were bigger than expected. Wish I could have ordered 1 of everything on the menu. Definitely coming back to visit with the wife. Cute little town, takes you back in time.

2022-01-23Diegos is one of our favorite places in Kingston for a night out. The gourmet Taco selection has a lot of variety, and uses house made ingredients that always taste fresh. The drinks are delicious, and the staff and owner are always kind and welcoming! Its a small place with only a couple of tables, but is always worth the trip to, even if theres a bit of a wait. Prices are reasonable, and the homemade guacamole, salsa and slaw are killer!

2021-10-30I paid $30 for ONE piece of corn, cut in half, a cup of guacamole and a cup of rice and beans that was 90% rice.As a Mexican woman with family who is from Cotija, I was also disappointed in how bland their Cotija cheese was. The corn sauce is flavorless. Rated 3 stars because I saw staff cleaning and I was given my food in an orderly time frame, but for 3 appetizers it’s too much money. Corn, rice and beans are extremely cheap, so I can’t justify the cost and will likely never return. I didnt know this was a fast-casual food chain until I looked it up for this review.

2022-02-18Wonderful taqueria!! Thanks to Elena and Isaac and team. Tacos were delicious - we tried most of them. Margaritas were awesome. Atmosphere was chilled. What else does one need?! Definitely recommend and we will return.

2022-05-06Had a rice bowl with Barbacoa Beef and found myself transported beyond my expectations and deep into memories. Great staff, amazing chef and saucy bartenders. Call ahead & Book early to avoid crowds. Sit at the bar if possible to get a front line view of this inexpensive transportive gem.

2022-05-10(Understandable) Long wait for pricey food that could have been better. Staff was friendly but the amount of food and chips they give for the big price was not. Theres other taquerias around and its better to go visit them instead.

2020-10-18A favorite lunch spot (for me), uptown Kingston once again has quite a few great options covering a spectrum of tastes - you should certainly consider Diego’s. The menu is fairly brief but the food is good (I am partial to creative soft tacos, which one can get here). The staff has always been enjoyable, knowledgeable and engaging. So for some semi-neuvo Mexican food with a beer or margherita, stop and enjoy!

2018-11-11What a gem of a place. We have been trying to get in there forever. Finally make it in. The tacos and salsas are so delicious and full of flavor. The staff is nice and welcoming. We will be back soon.

2021-11-30The staff was friendly and the atmosphere was nice but personally I didn’t enjoy the food, although my partner found it “ok.” For me, the taste of the tacos was very bland. The main ingredients in them were rice and beans, which is not gastronomically exciting nor worth their price. One thing that we both didn’t like is that we were charged for the salsas, which surprised us because salsas are an integral part of eating a taco in Mexican cuisine. It’s like going to eat a burger and being charged for the ketchup and mustard.
