Excellent dim sum and very quick, efficient service. I especially recommend the creamy egg yolk buns for dessert. Just excellent. The soup dumplings were some of the best Ive ever had.Unfortunately the prices add up quickly, but I understand that a Midtown location will cost more than a place in Chinatown. Not too busy on a Sunday night. The atmosphere was fine, but could have been improved with some light music to create some ambient noise, especially when there arent many parties dining. We will definitely return!
Hey I had a super low expectation and they over delivered ! The usual fares were all good. Ha gao and siu mei are not to be missed. But dont forget special dishes like turnip cake and sweet egg home buns. We also had crispy fried noodles and congee. All were good. We went on Tuesday and the service was awesome.
Soup dumplings were very good. Service was fast and accommodating. Spaced out so feels Covid safe. Everyone enjoyed their meals and everything tasted good. Portions are big so you can share here. I would definitely come back or get this food to go as well. There is indoor dining at this place right now.
Dim Sum Palace on West 56 st between 5th & 6th aves. have an extensive menu and is reasonably priced. Food is delicious but service is a bit slow. Had Shrimp & Pork Dumplings, Scallion Pancake, Shrimp Spring Roll, and Sweet Sesame Balls…so much to choose from! Will definitely be back!
Came here last week, and was pleasantly surprised. We were searching for dim sum without having to go all the way to Chinatown, and lucked ourselves into here. Dim sum was delicious (love the chinese broccoli too), service was great and the biggest bonus of all during covid times: clean outdoor patio with heating and hand sanitizer. Polite servers wearing suits will always be charming to me.
The dim sum is decent , but the menu items have a lot of take out restaurant items, which are unauthentic but popular among Americans.Oh, and the dim sum here is priced quite a bit higher than Chinatown or Flushing. Servings are small too.The soup buns are just okay, skin is slightly thick and theres hardly any soup. The shumai is good. So is the other dumpling I posted.Service is mediocre.
What a great discovery for me! A dim sum place that serves dim sum until midnight!! Living in SoCal I am used to dim sum restaurants to serve dim sum only for brunch or lunch but never for dinner (with the exception of Din Tai Fung). I tried about 4 varieties and liked all of them. Service was good and food was brought to the table piping hot and promptly. They made their own dipping sauces... all very good, the ginger one was EXCELLENT!
Very crowded during the lunch hour so definitely try to be there around 12. Service was fast and the food was delicious. The shrimp dumplings and Sichuan spicy fresh mushroom dumplings were amazing. Crispy green tea rice balls were filled with beans and peanuts, super yummy! Ill go back!
We love this restaurant. The food is amazing. The waiters are attentive, efficient, and nice. There are many delicious options to choose from, and our entire family leaves content and full despite our widely varying tastes. There is outdoor dining space with heaters for those who dont want to or cannot eat indoors. Highly recommend!
Chinese restaurants are not known for exceptional quality and outstanding services. That’s why there aren’t many 50 or 100 year old establishments like Italian or French. But this one stands out on its own, especially in the middle of Manhattan. We went there tonight on seemingly good reviews and thought we’d try our luck. What a mistake. It felt like either the owner was trying very hard to drive the restaurant out of business or the employees are so mad at the owner that they are trying to sabotage it. Some of the dishes were so bad that it felt like intentional. The chef simply threw in the whole Chinese Broccoli stems into the wok without bothering to cut them. Dim Sum port ribs are supposed to be finely cut lean pieces and steamed in fine small dishes. The ones we had were the low quality meat 4-5 times larger with all the fats and connecting tissues…. Ugh. It just so happened that we ate at a Korean restaurant in Korea Town the night before. The contrast could not be more stark - the quality and the service, despite of the fact that some of the Korean ladies were struggling with English. But they were warm and caring. You wonder why Korean businesses are thriving! Oh, one more thing. This Dim Sum place has a Karaoke room next to the main dining area without any sound insolation. And the door was always left open. We ate the entire meal enduring the kind of bad singing that only reminded me of wolf howling. Not only the waiters and waitresses were oblivious to that, they were talking so loud among themselves - back and forth next to you - that added to the noisy environment. That’s it, I guess. This one is off my list, forever.
This place is a gem!Everything I ordered, from the cocktail to the dimsum platter, crispy spare ribs, spicy wontons and even the desert, crispy green tea rice balls with sesame paste filling, was fantastic.Service is friendly, efficient and quick.Prices are very reasonable (though more expressive than Chinatown). What more can you want?Im definitely coming back to try more menu items :-)
The food here is very authentic so I would recommend doing some deep research when choosing what to order. The ambience isn’t particularly the best for a date as it feels more like a take out place and I should have realized it might be a better solo lunch spot.Staff is great 👍 but I wouldn’t go back or feast there.
The food was not good at all! Total waste of my lunch money and time. But the young lady who took my order was very nice. Only reason I gave them a try is because a guy who was leaving the restaurant as I was coming in said the food was very good. I would have made better time getting chinese food in one of the outer boroughs. I got the sesame chicken with vegetable rice and the chicken was extremely tough and the rice was very bland. I took a few bites and afterwards most of it went in the trash. If you are very hungry dont let the pictures on the menu fool you!
The food here is so good. Came here to pickup takeout for a good Saturday night and got lost trying to find this place after getting off the subway. And then it started pouring and had no umbrella. When I arrived, they were really nice and gave me towels to dry off amidst the downpour. Would definitely come back as the service was very good and so was the food too.
Absolutely the worst dim sum. If you are into the real experience, dont waste your time and money here.Spring rolls - soaking in oil!Steam pork dumplings - very thick skin and lot of rind in thre porkSalt and pepper shrimp - no salt or pepper! Absolutely no flavorShrimp rice noodle: flavourlessNo idea how they survive with such nad food! Likely a lot of first time tourists like us!
This is a DECENT dim sum spot!!!!!Much better than those long-standing ones in Chinatown!Dumplings taste super fresh and delicious and portion size is BIG!Very warming staff and attentive service!!!!Great preventatives during the Covid (took temp, kept a record of my phone and address just in case)Let me had my milktea delivered there while dining there
Shrimp dumpling is far from authentic compared with the one I had in Hong Kong and other cities in Guangdong. I mean...the gap between the transparent wrapper and the shrimp are way too large and it is not juicy at all. Considering the happy hour deal it is acceptable though. For the congee they will not offer you the crackers you usually will be given together with the scallion when ordering congee in dim sum setting in China, which is a downfall to my general impression to this place.
Great food, albeit service was a bit slow, with some of our dishes arriving either very late or not at all. They made efforts to compensate by providing free dishes. With so many business struggling, it warms my heart to see them busy & wish them success to remain afloat until inside service is allowed.
Excellent little restaurant and one if the most affordable in the vicinity. The duck spring rolls were amazing, simple, and tasty. We had the Shanghai Fried Rice for our base and the pork bun were my wifes favorite. Plus the beer was cold and the staff efficent. We win😁.
Quite a clean place with authentic dim sum. They had good variety of dim sum items and offered 20% discount. But the non-dim sum items such as fried rice/noodles or vegetables were at a regular price. So the waiter was pushing a little bit for us to order the non-dim sum. But overall, I’d come back and just order more dim sum items :)
Just back from dinner. The food was amazing. We ordered a bunch of items off of dim sum menu and also the Chicken Lettuce Wraps. They were to die for. The dim sum was out of this world. Nothing was heavy, fatty or greasy/oily. We ordered Crispy Garlic Spare Ribs. Would go back just for those. Will be back!
Went for the happy hour. Got Peking Duck as well. Im not a Dim Sum or Peking Duck aficionado. But, it all seemed tasty for what it is.The pork buns are really juicy. My favorite of the four dim sum we got that are the most popular there.I still prefer Korean BBQ, but this is cheaper, by far.
Their food is only bested by their friendly service. This Chinese restaurant is our go to spot for lunch from now on. They serve dim sum all day and their lunch special is a great deal. Our team has probably been there six times already. Five stars all day every day. You have to try their shrimp dumplings and chow fun.
Was there with some friends because they wanted dim sum. Picked the place randomly... didnt know much about the place. The food was quite overpriced, and overall the place was quite empty. We were expecting good dim sum (idk why) but I was quite disappointed in the quality of the dim sum. The plates ranged from around $4 to around $14 (if I remember correctly) and I was able to tell that some of the dim sum was the instant dim sum bought frozen from the supermarket, not fresh made like other Chinese restaurants. For example, we ordered the scallion pancake; I was able to tell that it was the ones that I would get in a package of around 5-6 for $2-3, however, it cost $6 to get one here.... =.= what is with the pricing, I feel very ripped-off. Didnt eat much overall. On the bright side, maybe the lunch/dinner dishes might be better. I wont know tho, cause I didnt get those and I dont plan on going back to this place... @__@
Had a great meal here! The shrimp dumplings (har gaw?) were phenomenal and many several orders of them were had. In addition to the dumplings, I ordered an order of General Tsos Chicken, which was phenomenal. The sauce was great, and the chicken was actually quite crispy. The drinks were great, and the service was quick and friendly despite being a busy holiday weekend.
Crowded small space.Service is rough, very slow and not attentive;Tea is very expensive $8 a pot!Food tastes poor and very fatty. Meat is not fresh or well cooked. Its crowded due to its location surrounded by tourists. This is not a traditional good quality Chinese dim sum. Its a fool foreigners kinda dim sum. Golden Unicorn in Chinatown is much better in my experience.
Great find. Looking for dim sum on recent trip to NYC and came across this via gmm. Wasnt on any best of lists so were able to get in fairly quick and the food and service are fast and friendly and really tasty with a few unusual plates. No cart here, and I think Im starting to like dim sum via menu more and more. Just make sure you dont get charged for a missing dish. Solid.
Amazing dim sum and Chinese food. They make it like how they do in Chinatown, where I grew up. The dim sum comes steaming hot and comes with a picture menu. They do not serve via carts. The Chinese food reminds me of when my family used to frequent the restaurants in Chinatown. You wont be disappointed.
Food was good except the sau lung bao, Skin was a little thick & not a lot of soup in the dumpling. Wait service was attentive. Food came out quick & hot. Didnt feel rushed by staff to leave. Place is a little small. Does have a bar & choice of teas. A little pricey. The ambiance was pleasant.
Nice service, but non Cantonese dim sums are terrible. Crab meat steam dumplings don’t have any crabmeat, this dish you have to get it from Joe’s Shanghai across the street. Pan friend pork bun is totally off note. They have no clue how to make this typical Shanghainese dish. Steamed Shrimp dumplings and chicken feet are pretty good. So pick carefully.
The restaurant itself for sit down is very good, but we ordered food to be delivered for a farewell party at our company and it was lousy. They arrived an hour early and they completely ripped us off in terms of price and the quality and quantity of the food. Ive had better food at your normal run of the mill Chinese Take out place. Very disappointing to say the least.
It really isn’t anything special. Small space, very outdated. They don’t play music so all you hear is clinking dishes. Service wasn’t very attentive even though when we went it was empty. The food is just ok. We spent $70 for two and were still hungry. Won’t be back.
Went to pay for my food, told the staff I would pay by card and tip in cash. They said no problem, proceeding to trap me in a corner whilst I had the tip money in my hand, (at this point Id paid the $79.00 bill, which wasnt worth the money) shouted in my face I wasnt allowed to leave without paying a tip. Which was very intimidating, especially being cornered and shouted at in front of children. I managed to get around the so called man blocking me in, put the tip money into my pocket and ran out the door, from this volatile man. Ive arrived home to check and theyve taken an extra $20 from my account without my consent.I most definitely wouldnt reccomend with these abusive staff members. Its put me off returning to NYC.
Around June 2017 my Gay friend and I went to have dinner here and everyone seemed to be gracious and polite unbeknownst to me they were ridiculing us in their native tounge not knowing my Caucasian Gay friend knew exactly what was being said so we tried our best to enjoy our meal overlooking the humiliation and even left a tip but never returned. Last month on a rainy day I had grocery shopping bags and had forgotten about the incident so decided to go eat but their doors were closed and I saw three employees, one female and two males who didnt bother to offer to open the door for me while I struggled to go inside. Whats worse is that once inside the female said something that made the others laugh and all remained sitting down on the stools near the door all looking at me which made me feel so unwelcomed and humiliated so I walked out and will never return. THIS PLACE IS BOTH HOMOPHOBIC AND TRANSPHOBIC and it sucks because theres a few feminine guys working there, BEWARE!

2022-02-21Dim sum palace was absolutely delicious. Definitely in my top favorite 3 along with Tim Ho Wan and Joe’s Shanghai. Everything we order came out hot and fresh! Each of the items we order was very authentic and not Americanized. Definitely a must try when in NYC.

2022-03-05This is some of the very best Dim Sum I have ever had. Great service and dishes come out quickly. I wish I lived close so I could work my way through the entire menu because I think almost everything the offer looks fantastic! Nice and clean little restaurant with very friendly and attentive staff. I will be going back when Im in the area.

2022-04-09The staff were extremely attentive and friendly. We only ordered some dimsum items to try and they were delicious- freshly steamed and very flavourful. The portions were a bit small compared to some other restaurants I’ve been to but overall, I do recommend coming here. I was told that they have half price dimsum from 3pm to 5pm as well.

2022-02-23Craving dim sum before our flight out and this was closest to our hotel. Overpriced but mostly satisfied my craving. I like that they have a dim sum platter with 8 different ones to try. So even if you are buy yourself you can have a variety. I would have ordered xo noodle if they had it. Beef noodle the beef was too big and chewy.

2021-09-19🥟 I didn’t know you can have dim sum for dinner! A friend who was taken here by experts on Honk Kong cuisine brought us here and we loved it. [Note: there are other branches in the city, but we were told this is the best]. The dumplings and the accompanying sauces - especially the ginger-garlic paste - were delicious. They also have more traditional dinner fare. We ordered the Mapo Tofu and loved it. Service was fast and efficient. We’ll be back!

2021-12-22Fantastic dim sum (and other Chinese goodies) in midtown (they have other locations too). Everything was fresh and well flavored. Definitely a top competitor to Jing Fong (Chinatown/UWS) and joes Shanghai and if in midtown I’d pick this place! Tried basically 90% of the menu. Interior is new - upstairs has big and small tables

2021-08-09The Bamboo Shoot Dumplings tasted amazing! I also loved the Lettuce Wrap with Chicken appetizer. I liked the outside seating option. They forgot to bring one of our orders first, but they were very polite and corrected it. The waiters were well dressed in uniforms.

2021-07-02For authentic HK style dim sum and Canton style cuisine, this is definitely THE PLACE to go!!The quality of the food is just as good as the restaurants in HK. Love love the dim sum here. Super high quality and worth the price. Way better than Chinatown and much better service.Totally recommend to anyone who loves Canton style food.
