Dinosaur Bar-B-Que in other cities:
Food is always top notch, I got the Meat Combo with pulled pork, ribs, and brisket with Mac and cheese and greens for sides! The service was great too! We made reservations which I recommend because parking is hard to find and the place is often busy - a reservation guarantees a table and no wait time.
I stayed in Rochester for few days during my Upstate NY roadtrip and food here was just great. Went there few times and everything was perfect!Brisked with perfect smoke ring, perfect bbq ribs, pulled pork (try combo meals)… and I’ve never had such a good coleslaw salad! Best BBQ place I’ve ever been too!
On a recent business trip we stopped in after work. It is a cool BBQ pit with a really good feel and great food. Its a rustic building that feels like an old world spot in down town Rochester. They have a large bar with mixed drink, specialty drinks and beer. You can get whatever you need to help you relax.Meals we all went with the 3 meat plates. The plates come with your choice of 2 sides and corn bread. I got the mashed and gravy with the BBQ baked beans. The beans have jalapeños and brisket. Got the pulled pork, ribs and brisket which also had jalapeños on it. Really tender, very flavourful. It was also a lot and had trouble finishing both sides. They have a ton of other options to order and a bunch of sides. You can probably eat they everyday for a week and not get the same thing twice.
Best bbq I have had ever. The sauce was amazing.my husband and I had brisket and chicken the pick two. They gave sides as well. Not the biggest fan of the mac and cheese but the potatoes were great and the rice andre beans were too. The corn bread was alittle dry but really good still. They are so affordable. We paid $60 and thats with tip. The sauce was delicious. The staff was friendly and inviting. The waitress was helpful and prompt with her service. Loved it. 10/10
Went the day before Thanksgiving. Have had their smoked wings years ago. My husband had never had them despite being from upstate NY. I dont know how they improved on already fantastic dish, but it was better than I remember. Some servers do not wear masks which was surprising (we were visiting and this is not the case at home). Also tried chicken cheesesteak, Mac & cheese. All fantastic.
Finally a decent meal today!.This place was true haven for voracious meatetarians like us!.In true American fashion, the servings were humongous!😂🤩😍😋👏🙌.The chicken wings looked really good but the vinegar smell really threw me off. However, the CEO (birthday boy) and another friend thought they were way up there on the taste scale!.We ordered the Combo Plate Pick 2 and 1/2 Family Sizzlin’..Between the two orders and the 18 chicken wings, we must have gotten over 10 lbs of baby back ribs, bbq chicken and briskets! Wowza! Not to mention the massive sides of salad, baked mac ‘n cheese, mashed potatoes and corn bread, we were literally in meat heaven. 🤩🤩🤩.The briskets, baby back ribs and bbq chicken were all amazing and the baked mac ‘n cheese was incredible..We thought we were going to finish everything since we were so hungry, but we ended up taking 2 big boxes to go still..The CEO was very happy with his choice of venue for his birthday dinner.🙌👏😋😍🤩😮.Will definitely come back when we’re in the area once again.
Overall, very good. Not best in the world BBQ, but so far, best weve had in Rochester area.Family style allows everyone to share different dishes.Fall off the bone ribs.Fork cut-able brisket.Chicken was pretty good, but not awesome. Good fries and beans. Corn bread was a little dry.
We celebrated my birthday at Dinosaur BBQ Rochester based on recommendations from Google as best BBQ in town. This was our first time here. We ordered the 13 pc chicken wings, Pick 2 (Chicken and Ribs) and the 1/2 Family Stylin with Brisket, Ribs and Chicken with the side of mac and cheese, corn bread and mashed potatoes. Definitely didnt disappoint! The chicken wings were so smokey and tasty! The chicken and the brisket were so satisfying and the fall-off-the-bones ribs were the bomb! Great service and divinely satisfying BBQ!
My friends and I (6 in total) ordered the whole family combo of 6 pieces of chicken, corn bread, full rack of ribs, half and half pounds of pulled pork and brisket as well as Mac and cheese, fries, and simmered greens.- The chicken was pretty good, the seasoning was nonexistent though- The corn bread was very lackluster, it was dense and dry and fell short of what I was hoping for- The pulled pork and brisket were much better, the meat was very tender and easy to pull apart- The ribs were very good and well seasoned- The Mac and cheese was pretty good, no complaints here- The fries were really, really good, perfectly salty and crisp- The simmered greens were the “best veggie here”On the menu it’s listed as serving 4-6 people, but was more than enough food for my friends and I since we took home 3 boxes of leftovers. The vibe is really homey and it feels very chill. All in all, it was a great place to stop for lunch and we look forward to coming back again (we just won’t order the cornbread).
Got the Original Pulled pork sandwich today. On the menu it says 1/3 lb hand pulled pork shoulder, original sauce, pickles, grilled potato roll. It looked a bit small so I got the scale out. It contained 1.5 ounces of pork. 1/3lb is 5.3 ounces. With the bread a sauce it was just over 5 ounces. It also came with a side of Mac and cheese. This weighed a whopping 1.5 ounces as well. This is not even close to what is advertised.
We’re happy that we stumbled on this rather incredible BBQ-joint that does everything right and hangs with the best. From the comic security dude by the door to the super helpful server, we got more than our money’s worth.Tucked inside the Lehigh Valley Railroad Station built in 1905 and surrounded by - and straddling over - the gorgeous High Falls, there’s plenty of room at the tables, by the bar, outside by the shining motorcycles, or off up somewhere by the parking lot, for a rare meal full of hot flavors and slow cooked juicy BBQ.I had the sampler (ribs, shrimp, brisket) plus a local ale and a thrashingly good cocktail (“Donkey Punch”), while the Mrs. got a solid vegetarian plate: the portabella with Mac n’ cheese and corn side.Starters were dynamite: deviled eggs and fried green tomatoes. The boy had plenty with the kids chicken fingers, mashed potatoes with gravy, and BBQ-beans. The server was a pro with good advice, and checked in regularly. Everyone was appreciated.Afterwards we walked around to the High Falls as the sun started to set, listening to the rushing water and pointing to the herons, gulls, and ducks. Bleached white tree trunks hung over the dam. When it’s good, it’s good.
As far as the meat tenderness it was an 8 out of 10. But every single meat item had this distinct flavor that made it hard to enjoy. It was like I was eating the same thing just a different texture of meat. The sides also had that same flavor. Which I’m assuming was a seasoning and a barbecue sauce. So it made it hard to enjoy because everything tasted the same. We came from Texas anticipating this to be pretty good based off the reviews. Not great.
Food is always good at Dinosaur BBQ which is an upstate staple restaurant but unexpectedly pricey for the city location.Beware: there are lots of mosquitoes outside while waiting for your food or dining outside. There’s limited seating inside so go at a decent hour if you can help it.
Just walking into this place I loved it. The BBQ smell that welcomes you as you enter is enough to make you want to keep coming back. The food was fantastic, has a bit of a kick to the sauce, and Im not a fan of that, but I just couldnt stop eating it. It was so good. Every staff member I talked with was so friendly and made us feel welcomed. Ill be back for sure!
Food was awesome!! I got the combo where you can choose either 2 or 3 meats and 2 sides. Food came out hot and fast!! This visit I was so impressed with their sides I added more. Mac n cheese was creamy and delicious, mashed potatoes with gravy soooo good and added that bit of extra comfort, Collard greens are cooked perfect and have that right amount of spice I look for. I chose the pulled pork, brisket and spicy shrimp. All three did not disappoint.. pork melted in my mouth, brisket was tender and juicy and the shrimp was seasoned just right... This is a definite go to restaurant when we are in town (we go to both Rochester and Syracuse)
Placed the order online at 415.. pick up time was 545.. no prob, I knew it was gonna be busy, got there at 545.. an hour later 645, got my $140 buck order.. ribs were tough. brisket, wings n chicken were good but they didnt put the jar of sauce, that was part of the order, in the bag.. I know they have a good rep. for Q but there are a few other places I will check out before returning..
I called and ordered the family meal take out. Full rack, whole chicken, had beans, Mac cheese, coleslaw for sides. Overall food was good, but the slaw only tasted like mustard and celery seed. Chicken, brisket, and pulled pork were very good. I was very disappointed in the ribs, I love ribs, any kind! But the ones I got from dinosaur yesterday, though cooked well, were very salty. I was very disappointed, main reason I went there and not somewhere else! First time Ive run into this with dinosaur ribs😟 Hopefully better next time!
Dinner at this place with kids was lots of fun. The food and river view were amazing, and the ambiance was vibrant and family-friendly. On the table, there was a dinosaurs coloring page and a few crayons for my son to use. And he was also given a little cute reusable water cup, which he took to school the other day to show to his friends! Thanks for the quality time we enjoyed.
I got the Bar-b-que Bowl on a whim because my uncles recommended it. So what they did was take out the sweet potatoes, and order some brisket and chili on the side to pour on top of it. Then as you can see in the photo, I mixed it all together and let me tell you it was the most delicious unique combination of flavor that Ive had. The way everything in the bowl blended together was astonishing. Not to mention it was only $14 and very filling. Highly recommend this dish.
If your a Texas girl in the North & your looking for BBQ, This is the place! Inside an old Rail Station, the ambience sets the tone for some good eats. They use hickory for their smoke in these parts, so the taste is a tad different, and if your not into jalepenos and relish piled on top of your brisket have em leave it off. The brisket and ribs are moist and tender, and leave you wanting more. The sides are fresh and generous, and the staff as friendly as they come. Its not Texas, but it dang near taste like it!
We were visiting the area and stopped by for a afternoon bite. Overall, I’m happy with the experience and glad we stopped. The service was ok. Our server was very nice but not very informed on the food or drinks she was serving. As for food, I had the BBQ sample plate with slaw and Mac and cheese. It was a a good size portion and the BBQ was pretty solid. It had nicely developed flavors; it was sweet and tangy. The slaw had nice balanced flavor with a little tang. My daughter (a vegetarian) was able to find several things on the menu. She enjoyed the deviled eggs, the fried green tomatoes and the Mac and cheese. We both really enjoyed the fried green tomatoes. They we very well breaded, held their shape (not mushy) and had lot of flavor. So, overall, it’s worth a try. The BBQ may not be the best ever, but the meal and atmosphere will be a good and reliable.
I bought my mom a Birthday dinner, and decided to treat myself too. They were very helpful and split my moms meal in 2 to make it easier for her to eat. ( My mom had a stroke). I was grateful for all they did. I Got my mom home, and set her up with her dinner and that is when all went down hill. The ribs where burnt, the cornbread was dry and butter didnt help. We picked through what we could but It was too hard to eat. I am very disappointed in the food, it has never been this bad before. I will be calling tomorrow to get a refund.
Overlooking Genesee River, this popular BBQ joint is converted from a old train station and has its character. The BBQ was above average but not overwhelmingly delicious for a person from the south. The corn bread was very good though. Overall a place with lively spirit, nice view and decent food.
This place is more than 5 stars. One of the best services we have had and so friendly and they really, really, really care that you leave happy. We ordered the family size meal with the ribs, brisket and 1/2 chicken. The corn bread, Mac and cheese and the greens that came with it were the best we have had. Now we know why a friend was raving about them non stop. They know how to do BarBQue
Amazing place.First time trying a barbeque place, and this place did it well for making a first timer like it.The ribs had the meat fall right off, the pulled pork is amazing, the chicken is super soft, the corn bread is spongy, and the sides (that I tried - being mac & cheese, fries and tomato & cucumber salad) were amazing. The food came super fast. Walked in, not even a minute later, we got a server. We ordered out drinks and food and got both in less than 10 minutes. Here in the picture, is the family meal with chicken, rib, beef brisket, pulled pork and corn bread. Sides are mac & cheese, fries and tomato & cucumber salad. Sides are included with the family meal. All in all, great place.
By far THE WORST BBQ I’ve ever had! I had the brisket, ribs, and chicken and they were all gross! It all had a weird taste. The baked beans were the worst I’ve ever had. The only good things were the coleslaw, cucumber tomato salad and the ribeye was decent, tasted like an average restaurant steak. Definitely didn’t seem like it had been dry aged for 30 days, like it says on the menu.I have no idea what all the hype has been about this place. My husband and I were EXTREMELY disappointed.
Delicious BBQ!!!! We used them for our wedding welcome picnic and everyone loved it! Many people said it was the best brisket they ever had and also particularly enjoyed the mac n cheese and sauces. They take allergies very seriously and we had ample communication and transparency through the whole process. The only hiccups arose when it took a few tries to get the invoice information correct. Also, we tried to add on chafing dishes and sternos 24 hours ahead of time, and they werent delivered (ended up being okay because the wind was AWFUL). However, we did get charged for them and need to get that straighted out. Overall, great food at an affordable price point!
Myself & Wife was in Rochester New York for the 1st with our Bowling Group for a tournament. Wanted something to eat, so we ate there & the food was great. We leave in Richmond VA. I wish there was one here. So before COVID hit, we went to the Dinosaur every time we visited Rochester for our tournament. Love it
We catered a retirement party. All of the good was delicious. We had 23 people and enough food for about 30. We got ribs, pulled pork, chicken, mac and cheese and salt potatoes. Thev pulled pork could have had a little more sauce but we got 2 bottles of sauce with the food so it was fine.
Greeted right away by a gentleman wanting to know if we were dine in or carry out told him dine in and he direct us to the hostess stand and we were promptly seated and our waitress was awesome we had my grandkids with us and she was fun and engaging and worked with the kids to order their own meals, which at ages 6 and 4 can be a process. Our party total was 4 adults and the 2 kids we went with the Family stylin’ Bar B Que which is a full rack of ribs a while chicken and either pulled pork or brisket or you can get 50/50 of each which was what we went with and you get 3 sides which we had baked beans, coleslaw and Mac and Cheese. It was a great and more importantly a DELICIOUS option with more than enough food for all of us, everyone was able to eat all of what ever they wanted with plenty of leftovers. The sides were plentiful, we’ve order these combo platters before and the sides come in a small little bowl, not here we got huge bowls with more than enough for again everyone to have as much as then wanted. The kids both had cheeseburgers, fries and Mac and Cheese, when the food came out the kids meals were easily adult portions and they kids did the best they could and enjoyed all 3 options. We were also seated with a nice view of the Genesee river which added to the overall experience. I would recommend Dinosaur Bar-B-Que in a heart beat
Our family stopped here for lunch while camping in the area. We are from Syracuse, where the 1st Dinosaur BBQ is, and this location is just as good. We all enjoyed the smoked meats (especially the brisket!) and the homemade sides. The service was good and the restaurant was well decorated and had an enjoyable vibe. We all agreed we would eat here again when we visit the area.Date of visit: September 2019
The food was okay. Nothing spectacular Im not saying that it was not edible or not delicious. But for the hype that this place gets I would have expected something a little bit more out of the food. I was not wowed. The prices were good for what you got. The wait staff was a little disappointing. The ambience was beautiful being by the river.
Staff was absolutely terrific on a very very busy back to school night. Food is real BBQ if that’s what you’re craving. We ordered the BBQ nachos which was nothing more than tortilla chips spread out and quite literally sprinkled with “chili” (really just a few pinto beans), lots and lots of sliced jalopenos and a sweet Mexican crema which I found off-putting. This appetizer should be removed from the menu. It is awful. Cornbread was served hot and was delicious. You’ll need a reservation for a busy night—40-50 minute wait without one and IMO, the food is not worth that kind of wait.
Place came highly recommended and had lots of good reviews so I was excited to try it out. I was suuuper disappointed. The brisket was dry and less tender than most briskets I’ve had. The ribeye tasted like something I would get at chilis. Chicken wasn’t good. The beans were very weird tasting and not good at all. The tomato cucumber salad was good. My wife and I are on a bbq road trip and this was a definite disappointment
I usually have a pleasant experience at dinosaur bbq but tonight was awful. There was an hour wait but I figured it was worth it because the food is great. They took my name and number and said they would text. I received the initial text and we waited the hour taking a stroll outside. When it was about 5 past the hour I figured I would go and and check, as we still hadn’t received a call or text. The hostess said they gave our table away because they had been calling us. I showed on my phone I hadn’t received a call or text. The hostess was rude and said they had called us over the loud speaker multiple times, but we weren’t even in the building because they took our number. They said that they had called and texted us and they aren’t made aware if we aren’t reviving their text messages. She was rude and basically blamed us for THEIR system failure. They said the best they could do was give us the next available table… which would have been fine if she wasn’t rude and disrespectful. At this point I didn’t even want to bother and we decided to eat somewhere else.I wasn’t even that mad initially until they were rude and defensive. Simply take ownership that your system messed up and didn’t message us. Like you can clearly see on my phone I never received a call or text… I’m not lying. If they had just said, “ oh gosh I’m sorry about that we have had some system issues. I can get you the next available table.” It would have made a huge difference but instead they just kept insisting they had called me… when they hadn’t.Just rude.
I waited an hour to get in. The waitress was super. This place had been highly recommended to me so I went. The brisket and sweet tea were excellent. The ribs and sauce were a terrible disappointment. The ribs had no flavor, burned, and just terrible. The collard greens were like rubber, and the Mac and cheese also was tasteless. The bar b q sauce was also non flavorable. If you dont know how to make sauce, just buy you some sweet baby rays sauce and put it in your bottle. Great sauce!! Next, fly down to Alabama and try full moon bar b q, Dreamland bar b q, and taste what real ribs taste like. Best place here in New York is Redman Bar B Q in Geneva. Ive spent money at four places here. They all suck. Red Man is the only one with real food that I have tasted that compare to southern cooking. Sorry for writing this but I am sick and tired of these great reviews and going in and wasting money. Sad that some of you obviously have never tasted good bar b q. If your lips and jaws arent red after you eat, you arent eating good bar b q. If you arent licking your fingers afterwards, you didnt have good sauce. Not wasting another penny up here on pitiful dry bar b q that taste like ashes. I am so disappointed. I will cook mine myself in the future.
Great as always and excellent place to try in Rochester NY. Everything is literally fantastic. The ribs are tender but have a nice crispy bark on it. The garlic chipotle wings are the best I have ever had, with a nice caramelized char (see pic). However just about everything is extremely fattening and high calorie. Put your diet on hold.
Great taste. At the same time the menu was a bit confusing. Service was okay. It was a busy Sunday afternoon, so I guess it could get tiring for the hosts. I would have prefer a more friendly approach from their end. The decorations were nice. Every items on the walls and the lights really created an environment for a small crew of friends. There are kids options but not the place I would bring my own little child. Too busy for child that is just learning manners. I would not go an seat down again, maybe order for pick up.
This place is fantastic! A very popular spot in Rochester. Today we went for lunch and it was busy with Rochesters business people on their lunch break. We didnt wait for seating however, we didnt make reservations and were seated as soon as we walked in. Everything was done quickly. Our waitress Jen was at our table within a minute and took our drink orders. She was good at her job throughout the meal. There were three of us who ordered meals and they came out in under ten minutes! Everything was delicious. I got a salad which was only a handful of lettuce loaded with cornbread, beans, rice, pickles, a deviled egg, and pulled pork. I loved it but if youre looking for a healthy salad option, go somewhere else. All the food was great, wait staff was prompt, place was clean. Absolutely no complaints, we will go back.
Looking for a place downtown to get a lunch. A few weeks into post vaccination and ready to venture back into the world. Picked a winner here.Great atmosphere. Great view of the falls. Great BBQ. I went with some wings and ribs and wife had the pulled pork. Enjoyed a great beer to wash it all down. All safety protocols in place and was a pleasant first experience.Maybe I’m out of practice but I spilled my pint over at the end and they were kind enough to bring me back a refill. Class act.
Always great BBQ. Stopped in for lunch, I got the make your own brisket sandwich, and my wife did the make your own pulled poke sliders. Food was hot, moist, and smokey like it should be. Everything was great, waitress was super friendly and attentive. Always recommend this a must stop at place when people visit Rochester.
The place to visit in Rochester!! The staff are super friendly and helpful, the food is flavorful and delicious and the atmosphere is amazing! Tried the wings and brisket and both were bang bang!! The offer live entertainment. Place gets super busy so expect a wait time to be seated. Highly recommend this place.
We were in Rochester for the day and looked this place up and went there for dinner. We were beyond pleased. We knew we were in for some good eats when we were at the intersection right by the restaurant and the sweet smell of BBQ filled our nostrils and we all looked at each other with a smirk meaning ohhhh YeahSeeing the BBQs and smokers just outside the entrance doors was awesome and we new with seeing those plus the beautiful smells that we were in for some good grub.We got there an hour earlier then out rezy and the took us in right away.We had the fried green tomatoes to start and they were great and the dipping sauce that came with it complemented it is so well. The wife and two kids shared the dine for two which was a full rack of ribs with 4 sides which were the mac n cheese, greens with turkey, cole slaw and home cut fries. All the sides were delishes.I had the trio plate and chose the ribs, brisket and chicken wing. The ribs tasted amazing especially the smoke bark outside was great. The only thing i would say is the rib was a bit on the dry side but still enjoyable and there with BBQ sauces and hot sauces at the table if needed and they tasted good too. The brisket was juicy and the bark was tastyyyyy. The chicken wings were probably one of the best Ive had from a BBQ joint. Perfect sauce and chare on the outside and the meat was juicy and so tasty. The two sides I got were the cole slaw and cajun corn. Corn had a nice kick to them. The kerrnels were not the juiciest but again still good.I would tell anyone and everyone they have to eat there if ever in the area. The service was top notch and she always made sure we were good and the food came out fairly quick. All in all we loved it.
Great location. Smells coming from this place should summon the ... well lets say it smells incredible. Menu is deep with options. Great beer selections. Great service. Im living in SC and feel I know good Q from bad... this is good. Had the Cuban. Black beans n rice was awesome. Sandwich was very good. I liked their sauce to dip on it. Would definitely return. Thanks for a last few great hours in Rochester!
Some of the best BBQ and smoked meat that Ive ever had. Im very hard to please concerning BBQ, and have tried many places as Ive toured the country. Folks, this is one of the best!! The wood flavor in the meat is so pronounced that it doesnt require much sauce, if any. I prefer it that way. The smoked brisket will send you into fits of joy!! Ive visited the Rochester and Buffalo, NY locations. Just wonderful. Its a good thing that this place wasnt here when I was a student at the Eastman School of Musici in Rochester. I would have lost quite a bit of practice time, and would have worn a few extra pounds home, Im sure!!
Been to both locations in Rochester & Syracuse and they both rock. Great food and selection of craft beers, and regular live entertainment. Definitely a cool vibe inside and a fun place to visit for lunch or dinner and the Rochester location is right by the falls in downtown 😁
This place should be a reason in itself to visit Rochester, the food was absolutely superb! The tastiest BBQ either of us had ever had and will definitely be a highlight of our journey across New York State. Incredibly flavoursome, these people know their stuff!! We had the ribs, sausages, brisket, cajun corn and beans and everything was absolutely delicious Highly recommend! ☆☆☆☆☆
The environment and food are beyond expectation, the staff is polite and nice. The combination of food, environment and staff makes the guests comfortable and respected. This place serves the best BBQ in the entire town. They never fall short of anything and always provide such an exquisitely good service. It is definitely a bliss to be at this place.
Every one of these we been to has been awesome.Service: Fast and courteous. From sitting to food on the table was under 15 minutes. Also, got refills without having to ask or running out.Price: Prices are better than many bbq places weve been to. The portion sizes are good as well. Avg $16 per person. We get the sweetheart deal for 2 and that stuffs 2 adults and a 7yr old with leftovers. My only negative for this one; you have to pay for parking unless you order carryout. Not a dealbreaker but just fyi.
I had a great time at Dinosaur Bar-B-Que this weekend with my wife. She is not from Rochester and has never been here before, but I promised it was worth it. We had a couple combo plates and split some wings along with some cocktails and a bucket of beers and everything was phenomenal and reasonably priced for what youre getting. The staff was quick and friendly, the restaurant has a great atmosphere as well. Even from a couple blocks away you can smell that lovely pale blue smoke like a lighthouse for your stomach. I highly recommend the smoked wings and the brisket.
We absolutely love this place and it is our go-to restaurant after COVID reopening. Service and food is pretty much almost reliable (with just once or twice order getting messed up and when we pointed out the manager immediately rectified it either by issuing a gift card or gettting new dish if in store). So many other restaurants have had terrible service and food after reopening (maybe due to lack of skilled staff?) but Dinosaur has maintained it. Servers are also very nice most of the time and will take great care of you. We love their wings, ribs and chicken sandwiches.
Pretty darn solid BBQ. The place smokes their stuff all day long. They have a full bar and a general restaurant area along with a station you can order to go. The ribs impressed as did the brisket. The sides were good, but nothing crazy of the chart in their own right.
I have been hearing about this place for about 6 years. Today I was finally able to make it in and see what the hype was about. Though I only had an order of Mac and Cheese the service was stupendous. Everyone from the servers to bartenders were amazing. Especially Danielle she was attentive and made the best drinks. Don’t hesitate go. You won’t be disappointed.
This is the first spot we stopped on our first night in Rochester. I dream about it still and will return to the city even just to have this BBQ again. Great selection of beers on this menu too. This restaurant was busy and we waited for a seat but it didnt take too long and it was definitely worth it. I had a brisket and ribs sampler combo with Mac and cheese and Cole slaw. BBQ the way it is meant to be done. Moist, smoky and savoury. My one daughter had a burger and the other had some sort of chicken dish.
Brisket was very tasty, juicy and smokey.Pulled pork tender.Ribs were good and falloff but average fare.Macaroni and cheese was al dente, which I really enjoyed but probably not everyones thing; thick and creamy sauceColeslaw was lackluster and watery.Corn bread on the dry side.Overall would recommend.
Every time I come to visit my best friend in Rochester, we come here on my first night because it’s THAT GOOD. I think about it a lot when I’m hungry. I really love the sampler platter where you get 3 different items because it’s just the right amount to be able to get a satisfying portion of everything unlike some platters where it feels like you have one bite of things. The brisket is probably my favorite. This is seriously some great barbecue! And the staff is amazing too. I look forward to coming back soon.
I went to dinosaur about a month and a half ago with a friend. That was the first time in almost 6 months that I went. But on both times that I went the food was excellent. I definitely recommend the pork ribs. Ive been to all the other rib joints in town thats the only one thats got the true essence of what a rib is supposed to be. I was glad when dinosaur came from Syracuse to Rochester. Years ago I used to go to Syracuse to go to dinosaur BBQ. Happy to have One in my own backyard now, Ill go whenever I have the chance. If you want good barbecue at a decent price, go to dinosaur BBQ in the city.
I went with my family today (visiting from out of town), the service was terrible and the staff members were extremely rude. We decided to leave the place even before ordering as it was the worst service I have ever seen in Rochester. I have been there before and the food is really good, however, the staff needs understand That a restaurant is more than the food taste…. It is an experience that starts as soon as guests enter the place.I don’t recommend going to this restaurant. Go to a place that cares and treats you as a human.
You have not had BBQ done right until you come to Dinosaurs. Not the Buffalo location, but the old train station converted restaurant. Located in downtown Rochester, this old vintage establishment. Full of high energy from the local bands that may play on certain scheduled dates. You come to realize the excitement of the cooks behind the line, shouting out dinners that are ready for pickups. You cant help but wonder how good is this food going to be? Well if you are familiar with the buffalo location, you can expect Rochester to blow your minds away
Great food! My favorite is their pulled-chicken sandwich, and my boyfriend loves their sampler plate (just a little bit of everything) a great place to go for both a special event (birthday, family visit) or just for drinks on a Tuesday. Its a short walk from where I live and a favorite for us. 10/10 would (and have) recommend to a friend!
This place definitely meet beyond my expectations. I read the reviews before, and I thought of coming in early to avoid crowd. So I did arrive at 5 PM, but oh boys, the place was already full.Since I am alone, I chose to sit at the bar. The bartenders were very friendly. The food took almost 25 mins, which surprised me, but after I tasted it, I was so happy and couldn’t stop munching.I am size 4 petite and I don’t usually eat that much (at one go), but I managed to finish almost ALL of the food on my plate (except the fries and cornbread).I don’t know if I will be back again at Rochester, but I will definitely try other branches...
I’ve been to the original Dinosaur BBQ in Syracuse before so I wasn’t sure how it would measure but I must admit this location measures up good against the original. Everything on my plate was slamming. The spicy wings were meaty and cooked well. The collard greens were packed with flavor, probably better than my momma. And then the French fries and corn bread leave you full and satisfied the rest of the day.
We made a reservation for two tables of 8. One of the tables wasnt ready so they had to wait approx 15 mins for a table. Once we ordered, the food came out very quickly. Our server was hard to track down and wasnt around much - we just really needed top up of water. The food overall was quite tasty. We ordered ribs, brisket, pulled pork, whole chicken, corn, fries and corn bread. All the meat was tender and delicious. The corn bread was surprisingly very tasty. The mac and cheese was overly seasoned as was the corn (too much salt, hence requiring more water).
We went here years ago and I couldnt forget how good it was so we decided to stop in when we were in town. Everything there is absolutely delicious slow smoked BBQ. I personally recommend the brisket. They give you great portions. That barbecue sauce is sooooo tasty! Also our server was great! Very friendly and accommodating. Parking kind of sucks but we lucked out and got a spot almost right in front.
Visited the Rochester location while in town for work and will definitely be returning. With a comfortable blend between a biker bar and a dive, this place checks all of the boxes of enjoying some great BBQ with a group of pals. Great volume of music and baseball on the TVs. Seated instantly just after a dinner rush; apps, beers, and entrees served quickly. Your only true dilemma will be deciding which barbeque you want most. Highly recommended visit!
Would not recommend - Shorted me on my food because they ran out, and instead of telling me that they ran out so I could have something else instead, they gave me hardly anything for $40!! dollars, and hoped that I wouldnt notice.I am writing this review after trying to contact the original Dinosaur BBQ in Syracuse, but after no response, I am turning to leaving my review here. Two weeks ago, I had ordered two double meat meals for takeout. I was told the wait time would be an hour and a half (which I understand during the COVID-19 situation.) After picking up my meal around 8:30 pm and driving home, I opened my takeout containers to find two pieces of brisket and one piece of chicken (see picture below). Both takeout containers had looked like this. I normally dont complain about takeout, especially during COVID, but I paid $40 for basically 2 pieces of meat, so I couldnt let it slide. I immediately drove back to the restaurant at 9pm because their phones were now off. Upon speaking to an employee and showing him my takeout container, he said I realized what they did. They ran out of brisket and didnt feel like making any more. I understand that food runs out, and at the end of a workday of course youre not going to make more, but they did not even attempt to offer me something else in place of what I had originally ordered, and just hoped that giving me two pieces of meat would be acceptable. I have to imagine that other people who were picking up their takeout orders during he same time as me experienced service like this as well. The food is great!! The service, way below average.
Great BBQ and sides! 4 of us from. Work went and were pleasantly surprised at how good it was! Nice beer selection, wonderful side dishes and great atmosphere. I and the BBQ Jerk Salmon and loved it! Would definitely come back to this place! Try the Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout beer - hearty and deep flavors.
We attended a private event in the upstairs room for the first time, we’ve been to the restaurant many times before but never for an event. The food is always amazing but the event space was great. It was quieter so you didn’t feel like you needed to shout to talk to the person next to you even with a fully booked, 2 hour long wait restaurant below. The staff working the event were friendly and attentive. There was event a restroom up there so you didn’t have to leave the space if you needed to go. The building is old but full of character, the tin ceiling was neat to see and the view out of the windows was beautiful. Would definitely consider this for an event at some point.
Went for a private event with a few colleagues and had an amazing time with some excellent food! We were served Wango Tango and honey garlic wings, brisket, ribs and pulled pork along with creamy mac and cheese, spicy beans and a corn muffin. Of which I can say the only thing that wasnt outright amazing was the corn muffin was a little dry. Thanks again Dino BBQ for such amazing food and world-class hospitality!
Casual setting with antique Americana decor. Large bar dining area and a separate dining area. Big portions and priced right. BBQ and sides were delicious! I had a combo plate of brisket, ribs and pork with baked beans and a corn bread muffin. The beans had a bit of a bite but were yummy. Service was good and bathrooms were clean. But the location and building is a treat--an old train depot built in 1905 thats close to the river and the arched memorial bridge. The building, its staircase and upstairs reserved area are beautifully old. But the colorful, modern-day version of Michelangelos The Creation of Adam on the ceiling of the bar dining entry is awesome!! Sorry I didnt get a picture of it!
No surprise: the BBQ is amazing. Made a reservation using Open Table, which turned out to be a smart move considering the obvious wait when we arrived. Great drink menu; they definitely have done their homework on the beer options [Bells IPA!!] Brisket and ribs were both tender and memorable. Only down side is that we felt a bit rushed with our cheque on the table prematurely. We tried to eat and drink quickly given the obvious wait, but definitely would have enjoyed a more hospitable atmosphere from the staff. Our waitress did a pleasant enough job, but definitely didnt match the same quality as the food. Overall, would recommend and will be back, but maybe enjoy your appetizers and aperitifs elsewhere.
Very tasty brisket and chicken wings. Good atmosphere and nice service. We usually book for a table online and show up at the restaurant fifteen minutes early to of course, find a parking lot. Would recommend for all my family and friends to have their tasty grilled briskets and chicken wings. Good to be here at Happy Hours to get discounted beers and desserts too. Proud Rochester!
As to be expected, the atmosphere lends itself well. You walk up to the place, and you can smell the smokers at work. Im an upstate NY native, and I do miss my Dinosaur in Syracuse. We happened to be in the area, so we HAD to go.This location did not disappoint. The ribs were near falling off the bone, and the pulled pork was perfect. For the price, the serving sizes are just right. Although, I definitely know I could have housed a ton more. 😆
If I need wings. They would be my first choice. Wings were 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥.Little a$$ burger for 5 dollars. It was good I guess.Mac, greens, corn bread, bbq chicken breast were...meh.Would give it another chance maybe to try some other things on the menu but the wings! 🙌 .... are a go for sure!
Had the Sweetheart Meal for Two for just $30.75 that included a full rack of ribs and choice of four side dishes. We chose black beans & rice, pork & beans, mashed potatoes & gravy, and the Cajun corn. Couldnt resist the Key Lime pie for dessert! Everything was outstanding, and only took a very short five minutes to be served all of that! Casey was our server and she was terrific!
We went there to go meet some of my birth family for the first time. The food was amazing. The only thing disappointing for me was the mac n cheese was spicy but that is my preference and I would not dock them for a preference.I the pulled pork, brisket and chicken (which in so many places is kinda dry) was so tender and moist. The staff was friendly and the food came out super fast.I was so impressed with this place.Thank you so much dinosaur bbq for making my time meeting my birth family so wonderful!
Busy, loud and good food. Loved it. Ordered the ribeye and I have no complaints. I also tried the ribs and I will be back to enjoy them in their entirety. Full rack baby.. Anyhow the wait was about an hour on a Saturday night. Im sure from the atmosphere, this place is usually busy, as it should be.
First time eating here for lunch on Saturday. We had the BEST server named Becky. I have not ever had better service than she provided. Make sure to grab a flight of locally brewed beer to go along with the delicious smoked brisket. This is now a destination when coming to Rochester.
Food was awesome, service was great, atmosphere was upbeat. Combo appetizer served up delicious fried green tomatoes, deviled eggs, Cajun shrimp and smoked wings. The triple meat combo knocked it out of the park too. Definite recommend stopping by if youre ever in the Rochester area!
Great smoked ribs and meat. Side dishes are also full of flavor, portions are big and made to share. Credit cards accepted. Maybe not a good idea for a business lunch as you will most likely leave with your clothes smelling smoky. You can park on the street and, as a bonus, get a great view of the river.

The smell in the parking lot gets you salivating before you even enter the restaurant.Ribs were excellent, brisket was tender, chilli was amazing, and the wings were beyond fantastic. 2022-02-01All I can say is WOW,,, our waitress Kira D. Was awesome, we had a party of 13, and she handled it above and beyond. Our appetizers came out quick, our food was on time and PERFECT !!! I ordered a half rack of ribs with Cajun Corn which is really good, I highly recommend getting that side or doubling that side and french fries with my order. We did not wait long to be seated, we were waited on perfectly, from hostess to our waitress and she was not mad that we asked for separate checks, Kira D. was highly attentive to all of our needs, she really rocked it.My ribs were cooked to perfection, french fries were good the cajun corn was really good, next time I am doubling that side, I highly recommend you try it out if you like a little spice in your food. From hostess to waitress we were taken care of and all involved went above and beyond to make sure our experience was nothing less than 100% perfect. We showed up when it was prime time around 5:30-6:00 and the restaurant was jam packed and we were taken care of,,, I have nothing negative to say at all.Kira D. Thank You for taking care of us and the rest of the staff thank you for making our experience a great one, we will be coming back when we are in the area, Thank You Again 🤘😎🤘🇺🇲

2022-05-12I loved this place. The waitress was awesome, atmosphere was great, loved the music, & affordable prices for the amount of food you were served. My 7 year old son gave it 10 stars. So we are definitely coming back.

2022-06-21Havent been to Dinosaur in YEARS because I became vegan and there just were no options there. However, for a Fathers Day celebration this weekend, my son suggested we try it out. I went online and found that they now offer a few vegan options: an Impossible burger, a rice and bean bowl, and a mushroom sandwich. I ordered the Impossible burger with a salad and black beans and rice. The burger was perfectly cooked and even had come char, a flavor we vegans rarely get to enjoy! It was delicious!! My husband ordered the rice bowl with mushrooms. It was fairly small and, because their corn bread is not plant based, it came without bread, so he did finish it not quite sated. I gave him my beans and rice to fill him up and he was good. I would definitely recommend they make the rice dish bigger, especially for those who order it vegan. Everyone else in the group were meant eaters and very much enjoyed their dinners - and desserts! I would recommend that Dinosaur continue to think about ways to diversify their menu to accommodate plant based eaters, but this is a good start - and at least we can have a place at the table now!

2022-06-152nd time here. Had to try it again. It still bangs. Wings weren’t the same as the first, softer…but still flavorful. Love the ribs. Got the salad. Beers. Sweetheart dinner. Few drinks. Sat at the bar. Decent customer service. Cool spot on the river. Street/paid parking.

2021-11-17I had the best time here! Danielle and crew were perfect? They cared and talked to me. They gave me perfect customer service and attention. This will be a spot I will always come to during a layover. But honestly the food was perfection! I died! We even ordered dessert ! I cant say say one bad thing about this establishment.

2021-12-13This is my first time going with my husband, and I am absolutely blown away! He said this was great food, but I didnt expect how great. The menu has a lot of different items (highly recommend the ribs), the mixed drinks are a good ratio, and the service is top notch. I was welcomed as soon as I came in the front door and that level of hospitality continued through the whole meal.

2021-10-05I think I have found the holy grail of chicken wings! They are the best that I have tasted in my life both in Europe and in the Americas, the size is perfect and the flavor is very special, perfect, excellent and cooked to perfection.I will definitely return because among other things here you can find some unique and famous sauces that you can put to your favorite dishes of the 🦕 (such as the delicious ribs with the classic and delicious smoked or grilled flavor). My Yankees friends say there are people who come exclusively to Rochester to eat at the 🦕.

2021-12-29The food and service was excellent! We had our 3 year old with us and the server was extra attentive to her, made her feel special and even hung up the picture she colored for her! It was a great night out for all of us, fast and friendly from host to table. Thank you for a memorable evening Dinosaur BBQ!!
