One doesnt always have to travel far to find a hidden treasure. I have lived in Gardiner for almost 40 years and recently discovered the wonderful DM Weil Gallery on Bruynswick Rd. The space is gorgeous, the artist engaging and her work captivating. In addition to a wide array of pieces (originals and prints) available at a variety of price points she offers unique art experiences for children and adults. The idea of spending a day with the artist - lunch, wine and creative expression included - has me alerting my friends and family to my latest addition to my birthday wishlist! Bottom line whether you have lived here all your life, find yourself in the area or are looking for a day trip make your way to DM Weil Gallery.
I first visited the gallery as a guest and loved the experience since I am an artist myself. Eventually I was given the opportunity to work at the gallery for a day to help the owners out and it was amazing. i was taught how to print, take detailed pictures and edit pieces of art. I learned a lot and got to immerse myself in another artists world. I got to tour the gallery myself and it is colorful and so fun to look at. I also was allowed to see DM’s studio which was really amazing, I loved seeing the hundred tubes of paint and her pieces that were in progress. I would 100% recommend visiting the gallery. It was fun and interesting and i thoroughly enjoyed having the experience of socializing with customers and seeing the art.
Impressive, gorgeous gallery in New Paltz! I was in the area visiting friends and decided to check this place out based on their recommendation. Yes, its a little off the beaten path, but is so worth the scenic drive! The space is vast and beautiful. I wouldnt call myself a modern art expert by any means, but was taken by the use of bold color and texture. Donnas work is joyful and full of life, so it seems fitting that the paintings have room to breathe in this spacious layout. While some galleries can seem stuck up or cold, this one is quite the opposite. Donna (and gallery manager Ken) are more than happy to give you a personal guided tour, and Donna will share the origins and inspiration for her work. Dont be intimidated if you arent an artist or dont know much about it -- you will still enjoy this gallery!
So glad we were able to visit the gallery during our trip! To be honest, I was drawn first by the complimentary wine/espresso, but the experience itself exceeded my expectation. We received a warm welcome from Donnas business partner Ken when we arrived on a quiet Sunday morning - he gave us a quick tour of the gallery, showed us the print machine that can reproduce artworks on canvas, and took us to see Donnas art studio. It is not everyday you can be inside an artists work space to witness all the creativity! As an added bonus, we saw two young deers nippling at the grass outside the studio..Donnas paintings were very colorful and each piece has an interesting story behind. The gallery was very spacious and you can really take your time to soak in the art work with a glass of wine!Highly recommended for anyone visiting New Paltz.
DM Weil is my favorite contemporary artist...and now I own an original!!! My first encounter of DM Weils strikingly bold, colorful work was a number of years ago when her gallery was in the South Bronx. I was invited to an opening and had no idea what to expect. I was blown away by her collection of large canvases and her use of color, lots of color , bold, beautiful color, woven throughout each painting with a story behind each one. That evening I set eyes on Firefly, my favorite of them all. I really dont know much about contemporary art, Im not a collector, but this evening something came over me and I said I want that painting. I have visited the gallery in New Paltz to see Firefly again on several occasions. Every so often, DM Weil would remind me how many people inquire about it and have made offers, but I had given her my word. Well, it took me a few years to save up for this, but I finally own a DM Weil original!!! I love the intricate, complex use of color, layer upon layer, and of course the firefly lighting up the painting. Perhaps it reminds me of my childhood, the luminosity of an insect lighting up summer nights, a sense of wonder through a childs eye. Finally, Firefly is hanging in my home and I couldnt be happier. DM Weil even came down to NYC to install it in my home. Thank you!

2020-08-22A must-see. The art work is stimulating and the artist and her assistant are friendly and inviting. A great place to bring that budding artist in your family, or spend a rainy day enjoying the art work and going into town for lunch. Coming from a family of artists I can say with confidence that I would buy her artwork in a second. In fact, I think I will!

2016-09-05So happy I discovered this place. How wonderful it is to feel like youve stumbled upon the Hudson Valleys best kept secret. My husband and I popped in not expecting to spend the rest of our afternoon at the gallery. We enjoyed wine while speaking to the artist herself (such a down to earth, inclusive artist--a rarity these days). It was such a unique experience and I cant wait to return.

2016-12-01Came here a few weeks ago with my girlfriend. Just a heads up is one artist showcasing her work-not overly thought provoking but pretty to look at it. Seemed a bit lavish but overly was a nice experience. Very nice people.

2017-05-31We stopped by this gallery because we needed some indoor activity near New Paltz on a rainy day and then wished we had stopped anyway. This gallery of abstract art is really accessible. You dont need to know anything about art to enjoy the very colorful pieces exposed. Plus they sell reproductions making it possible for many people to purchase something and bring some art home! We were nicely welcomed, offered a cup of espresso, explained how the gallery was setup and had the opportunity to chat with the artist! I highly recommend this gallery!
